Chip says:

No lead is Veras-proof

I don’t know which I dislike more: God Bless America at YS or Sweet Caroline at Fenway.

JM says:

What’s wrong with God Bless America?

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

This lead is even Horne proof.

ZING

kSturnz says:

Drew says:

Forget Jose Veras, let’s hope Phil Coke can put up a scoreless inning or two. I hope he’s mentally prepared.

Chip says:

Tomko could use the work, save Coke for when it matters as he’s one of the only reliable ones out there

Drew says:

I don’t consider him quite so reliable. And it seems everyone in the pen could use some work.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Not if he doesn’t know his role.

pat says:

I’m hearing whispers jesus is going to trenton tomorrow. (0-1)

Chip says:

Does that mean the apocalypse is coming?

Accent Shallow says:

Nickel says:

That’d be sweet! I’m going to tomorrow’s game (if it doesn’t rain).

Accent Shallow says:

You’re going to Trenton? Don’t get stabbed.

Nickel says:

lol…Actually, despite most of Trenton being a war zone, Waterfront Park is actually REALLY easy to get to.

I’m hearing the same thing, through some super-secret double-probation sources I have.

Charlie says:

pretty good game by AJ

LiveFromNewYork says:

Johan who? Oh tonight’s LOSAH pitcher. I can’t wait to go to Yankees / Mets.

30 hits in 19 innings–Wang-ian.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I’d rather use Wang just because.

Drew says:

Mark Teixera is now Ramiro Pena. Kay you’re a fucking idiot. Watch the game.

Charlie says:

that’s the last time you’ll see ramiro pena PH for mark teixeira

So you’re saying that’s the last time Tex will get hit in the ass?

I beg to differ.

Chip says:

I assume the Swish will be covering first from here on out?

Talk. About. Baseball.

Charlie says:

Charlie says:

kevin gregg sucks, marmol should be the cubbie’s closer

Drew says:

+1.
Surprised Sweet Lou is sticking with him this long.

Accent Shallow says:

I dunno, I’d imagine it’s nice to be able to use Marmol in the fireman role, since he is their best reliever.

andrew says:

Agreed. Isn’t that what we always talk about? Your best reliever should not be your closer. Marmol can come in whenever and shut the door. probably more valuable than Gregg.

Zack says:

marmol has a WHIP of 1.48

John says:

Lemme guess..Pena is going to play first now? And Berra will play 3rd, if he’s subsituted

Chip says:

Swish at first, Pena at short and Berroa at third I’d imagine

Chip says:

Unless they put Posada at first and Cervelli in to catch

John says:

Just got this, SR on Tyler Matzek.

http://www.baseball-intellect......er-matzek/

They’re doing Matt Purke next, another possible Yankee draftee.

John says:

another? I guess anything is possible but Matzek is not going to drop to us.

I could be wrong, but I thought he was one of the guys asking for big loot and/or a Boras client.

John says:

I don’t know but I know Purke is one of those guys

Just checked it out, sounds like I’m wrong. He’s considered a safe pick and signable.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Do the Yankees even give a crap at this point?

Charlie says:

clearly they must not, if they’re PHing for arod and tex with ramiro and angelfuckinberroa

There’s a baseball game going on, guys.

John says:

Man, I bet Tex and A-rod would have loved to hit against Benson today.

Charlie says:

Angel Berroa is truly a disgrace to all organized sports ever in existence

A.D. says:

Put Tomko in to mop up

Accent Shallow says:

Please walk, Robbie!

LiveFromNewYork says:

A strong inning for Benson??? We sent our frigging bat boys out there.

dkidd says:

is kris benson still married to the crazy lady?

LiveFromNewYork says:

Life just did a 30 hottest sports spouses (now and past…Marilyn Monroe was number 1) and his wife (ex) was on there.

Chip says:

You mean crazy hot as shit lady and yes I believe so

LiveFromNewYork says:

Girardi must have a date with the missus.

John says:

So, if we win, we have the best record in the AL, right?

Drew says:

I gotta tell ya. I really don’t understand so many peoples fascination with hating on Berroa. It can’t be just the ROY. I don’t get it.

Chip says:

Maybe it’s that he’s impressively bad

Charlie says:

Drew says:

15 AB’s. 2 errors. Short term security in case Alex reinjures the hip. Would you like him to play gold glove defense and hit 400 in his total of 42 innings?

Chip says:

No, but .250 would be acceptable. I think his UZR/150 is something like -62 (yeah I know small sample size) too

Drew says:

42 innings. That’s less than 5 games. How do you expect him to produce. He’s hardly on the team.

Jake H says:

Burnett really battled there. He clearly didn’t have his best stuff.

Accent Shallow says:

8 whiffs without his best stuff? I can accept that.

YankeeScribe says:

Is it safe to say the AL is weak this year? It seems like the AL East is the only legitimate division…

Chip says:

The Tigers and Rangers have been awesome this year

Charlie says:

they’ll both regress a little but i agree that the AL is kinda weak. Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, Phils.. all very good teams in the AL its just the Yanks, bosox, and maybe the angels down the road

LiveFromNewYork says:

Did Singleton bail on Kay? Did he rip up his contract?

I bet Singleton can fuckin’ drill it on the golf course.

Accent Shallow says:

Davis has three flyouts to the track this game.

Non-bandbox?

VO says:

In Fenway they would have been pop-ups in the infield.

Charlie says:

chris davis is an automatic out.. and to think i once thought he could be a fantasy stud

These “Little Bit of Luck” commercials are quickly becoming incredibly annoying. They’re not quite up to the GEICO ad or Australian emphysema patient level, but they’re getting there.

dkidd says:

“every ninth day” eddie

Paul offering more evidence as to why Bernie was the most feared hitter of his generation.

The Yankees are like a man with two dildos.
Unstoppable!!

Drew says:

I picked up Guardado in The Show last year. He killed it.

dkidd says:

what’s the point of a warning?

That didn’t look intentional, IMO.

dkidd says:

me neither, just want more consistency. last week some guy got tossed for hitting someone with a curve ball

LiveFromNewYork says:

LiveFromNewYork says:

Our play of the game is a tackle.

Accent Shallow says:

I hope we don’t see Wang here.

A topical link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeR2ORmZh5s

Drew says:

I def wouldn’t have voted for JoPo today. \

LiveFromNewYork says:

LiveFromNewYork says:

Accent Shallow says:

Ah, Veras. He of the 16/14 K/BB.

And on the first pitch he gives up a rocket that was nearly out!

RichYF says:

Veras is the definition of precision command.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Veras is the definition of how the hell did I get to be in pinstripes

Drew says:

Papelbon alert.
/crosses fingers.

dkidd says:

papelbon making it interesting

LiveFromNewYork says:

My Mo I hate him.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Are they seriously discussing joba to the pen?

Joey H. says:

No in fact we were making fun of Fatcesa and his asinine push to get him in the pen.

LiveFromNewYork says:

“we”? Is that you Paulie?

Joey H. says:

Oh yeah. I was the host.

At least they’re discussing baseball and not the NBA or golf or food.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Scooter read the birthdays.

Joey H. says:

Or that Sotomayor lady.

Are Kay and O’Neill B-Jobbers?

JobaWockeeZ says:

I think they both want him in the rotation.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I think it’s giving up time.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Wow good outing for Veras.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Really. Throw the f’ing ball.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Jorge getting pissed. Maybe now he deserves player of the game.

Accent Shallow says:

Yay Veras! Yay win!

Jorge looks mad at Veras.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Yeah, he was definitely frustrated. I think he said What the F is wrong with you?

Zack says:

Yeah because Jorge is perfect

LiveFromNewYork says:

He’s not but he is a bottle rocket when he’s pissed.

Zack says:

which is starting to annoy me, can anyone else see his ego growing over the last year or two?

Drew says:

I’d say a lot more intensity than ego.

LiveFromNewYork says:

He’s still pissed.

Who da fuck is this guy?

LiveFromNewYork says:

He’s “I’m not Kim Jones.”

LiveFromNewYork says:

Can NONE of them pronounce Teixeria?

RichYF says:

What? You didn’t know that it’s pronounced TECKS SHARE UH? Sure would seem that way..

Zack says:

Zack says:

bases loaded, no outs. 2 strike outs, come on detriot!

MattG says:

And in other news, the tying run is at the plate in Texas…

For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

Lets go Tigers! bases loaded 2 out down 4 against Paps in the 9th.

Zack says:

Drew says:

Bottom of the Tigers lineup sucks.

MattG says:

Oh man, Francona has Saito warming up. THAT is interesting.

RichYF says:

What the heck is up with Kenny’s hair?

MattG says:

OK, he did the job, but there is something wrong with Papelbon. He is clearly not the same.

I feel so bad for him.

LiveFromNewYork says:

ha

hey paps you know where you’ll find sympathy? In the dictionary between shit and syphillis.

RichYF says:

Zack says:

but they have daniel bard!!

Jack says:

I say we just start calling him Bards-worth and get it over with.

Ed says:
For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

still raised his BAA.

LiveFromNewYork says:

The BEST thing about this game was the DON’T FUCK WITH US message. The whole team sent it (with Girardi’s blessing).

V says:

Wow. Keith Law’s new mock draft has the Yankees taking Heathcott and passing on Scheppers AND Purke, both of who slip to the supplemental.

Also says the Yankees are big on Arnett, but he’s unlikely to fall past the mid teens.

Zack says:

“Also says the Yankees are big on Arnett”

Translation: Yankees put that out there so a team picks Arnett ahead of them if he slips so they can grab someone they really want.

Dont believe that Team X likes Player Y stuff, its all manipulation

Drew says:

Sooo we should say. “We really don’t like Strasburg?”

V says:

Yeah. I’m hoping Heathcott is a smokescreen. I like him at #76, but not in the 1st round.

1st round has to be Purke or, if there, Scheppers.

Drew says:

Torre with the best record in baseball.
Joey G with the second best. Me likes.

V says:

And BP ran a ‘Joba = starter or reliever’ article.

Snippet:

“In his career, Chamberlain now has a 3.19 ERA in 22 starts, averaging a little more than 5 1/3 innings pitched per. He has 125 strikeouts, more than one per inning, and a K/BB of 2.6. There’s never been a team in MLB history that could afford to move that guy to the bullpen. Even if you were to say that Chamberlain is a six-inning pitcher, something that isn’t clear yet, getting 192 innings of 3.19 ERA ball in a season would make him a top 40 starter in baseball every season, a six-win pitcher in line to make tens of millions of dollars a year.”

V says:

And:

“Proponents of changing his role, including one highly visible and vocal one in New York, are fond of citing Chamberlain’s success as a reliever. Like many pitchers, Chamberlain took well to the simpler task of relief pitching, and has a career ERA of 1.53 in that role, with a 78/19 K/BB in 59 innings. The lesson to take isn’t that Chamberlain is a better reliever than a starter; the lesson is that everyone is a better reliever than a starter.”

Tank the Frank (formerly just "Frank") says:

I love BP. Someone should call Francesa and site this article. These are people who get paid to know more about baseball than you.

Drew says:

BRING ME PORCELLO’S LAST FIVE STARTS!!!!

Zack says:

his last start? atrocious!

Blackdragon905 says:

I just read on nyyfans.com from a poster who said Montero has been promoted and is on his way to Trenton. Does anybody know if there is any truth to this? Thanks.

V says:

I don’t know if he HAS been promoted, but I would NOT be surprised if he was. Check the Trenton beat-writer, as he’d probably be in early on the news:

http://thunderbaseball.wordpress.com/

Drew says:

Teix just said his first two bats against Padilla in his career he hit two homeruns. The 3rd AB he got hit.

Drew says:

Also, this dude asking questions in the lockerroom with the YES mic is a moron.

V says:

Agreed, heh.

Next time the Yankees face Padilla, I could see a Joba or Burnett drilling a Ranger pre-emptively.

Drew says:

Oh yeah. This one will go into the memory banks. Probably not in this series, but I doubt they get away with hitting one of our best hitters twice. Plus, AJ didn’t even hit Cruz.

V says:

LOL I loved AJ’s reaction to that ‘are you clicking?’ question.

“Me, or the team?”

It’s pretty obvious he hasn’t quite hit his PEAK form yet, as his curveball command is mediocre. He can survive because his fastball is mid-high 90s with awesome movement.

Drew says:

Yeah I heard that. It’s good that he’s not necessarily pleased with his outings just because he got a win. I can definitely see that ERA creep down below 4. He’s clearly not hit his stride yet.

rsam says:

long live the ynkees

George says:

So an A-bomb for Matsui… good one Sterling!

great win tho!
