Charlie says:

i feel bad for the cubs… what the fuck were they thinking getting aaron heilman??

Charlie says:

that was fuckin strike 3, goddamn this ump sucks

Baseballnation says:

No that was strike three

Ivan says:

iight, I think Hughes will pitch the 9th inning. I think.

Charlie says:

hopefully mo will be…

Drew says:

AH, my bad Zack. Lol i did read it just not twice. My beef was “we’re.” My mistake, I think you understand what I mean though.

dkidd says:

John says:

0-6 w/ RISP, we need to get on that

handtius says:

Baseballnation says:

Its prety interesting how Pena remains a significant contributor to the Rays numbers wise despite bad contact skils.

Baseballnation says:

Anyone see what happened to Ellsbury?

Drew says:

NO!? did he get hurt or something?

Ivan says:

John says:

i know he left the game

Charlie says:

that was strike 3 again

Charlie says:

aceves is like, fuck this ump, i’ll get em swinging

pc69 says:

1-2-3, and again 1-2-3…..This is not good. We need offense.

Hova says:

A lot of people have left TB for dead (mainstream media). With all things considered (bad hitting, injuries and bullpen issues), they’ve done a pretty damn good job. Only 5 games out of first place and they give the Sux and Yankees problems.

Baseballnation says:

Jose says:

Cruz a single shy of the cycle.

Charlie says:

Hova says:

Mexican Gangster dealing.

handtius says:

when does he not.

John says:

i hate all these 2-0 and 3-1 outs

cjc says:

handtius says:

cjc says:

maybe before the games over this lineup might ya no wake up a bit wtf guys it just seems like the 5th inning killed them

Baseballnation says:

Is that Edwin Jackson in Right Field for the Rays??? Psssshh

John Duci says:

Im calling it now. Posada walk off 2-run homer.

Hova says:

If we can get some men on base, the Melkman will deliver

Drew says:

Can always count on JD.

John says:

Clutchy McClutch

pc69 says:

finally, after 7 straight retired.

cjc says:
handtius says:

thank you john sterling.

cjc says:

abomb than mo redemption

handtius says:

Hopefully A-rod can do something with this.

ChrisS says:

please no groundballs.

Drew says:

Lol it’s funny watching Teix run.

Drew says:

Come on Al! Let’s get one in baby!

Chip says:

Let’s do this A-Rod

Ivan says:

Chip says:

Come on A-Rod, sit fastball here

whozat says:

That FB was the pitch to crush.

Drew says:
Drew says:

oh, my bad, thought u meant the last one. I think u meant the swing and miss.

whozat says:

Yeah. The fastball that he swung under.

whozat says:

Um…ok. I mean, it wasn’t really that high at all. I’m glad he didn’t pop it up, but that was certainly a hittable pitch.

Drew says:

Word, I’m just saying we don’t really want him to expand the zone. Take the BB, pass it on.

handtius says:

This is cano’s kind of spot.

handtius says:

he sees lefties well.

Tom says:

If by that you mean a 1st pitch swinging ground ball to 2B you’d be correct.

handtius says:

Wow. troll? or just a total pessimist?

handtius says:

There goes your prediction.

Drew says:

Great AB! Alright Robbie. Let’s work on the bases loaded average.

Chip says:

Well, now we need Cano to come through. I’d be completely fine if he also walked though

John says:

uh-oh Robbie with bases loaded…cmon just a single

whozat says:

Wow, Padilla 7IP, 3ER on 99 pitches at the Sox.

pc69 says:

Every wonder why it is so hard for Yankee hitters to just hit a fly ball to score a run. Seems like everytime there is a runner at 3rd, the hitter has to get the “big” hit instead of just trying to score the run.

Good AB by Cano… Now stay out of the DP…. take some pitches.

Chip says:

I doubt they’re trying to get the “big” hit. You just try to put together a good at-bat and right now it’s not happening for them. Hopefully Cano can turn on one here

pc69 says:

I know you are correct and my statement is not true fact, but it is the perception that is occurs more often than not.

McCaff says:

base hit to the left center gap, scores 2…

Ivan says:

iight lets go Cano, give the yanks their first hit in RISP.

Arman Tamzarian says:

Sad to say, but it seems as though Alan Horne is officialy done
1.0 6 8 7 2 1 1 11.15

handtius says:

whozat says:

That is too bad.

Ah well, like Mike says…young pitchers do two things: walk people and get hurt.

cjc says:

cano bases loasded don’t know if I can watch

cjc says:

please please robbie just don’t make an out on ball 4

cjc says:

handtius says:

Can Cano walk with the bases loaded?

handtius says:

HE CAN!@!!!!W!W!@!!!@!@!@!@!#!###!#!!!!!

TheLastClown says:

Drew says:

ROBBIE CANO! WHADDYA KNOW

Yeah, I would not have called that one.

Ivan says:

Chip says:

Robbie with the clutch walk!

ChrisS says:

Cano drawing a bases loaded walk is something I didn’t think I’d ever see.

John says:

baseball’s awesome

whozat says:

Seriously.

I mean…that first pitch was totally a strike, but hey…I’ll take the break :-)

Let’s go JORGE!!!

whozat says:

pc69 says:

Robbie took a walk.. what is this world coming too!

handtius says:

That was an amazing at bat by Cano.

Chip says:

Flyball now ties this game. Let’s do it Posada!

Drew says:

Tie it up JoPo! WOOHOO!

cjc says:

ChrisS says:

Oh my goodness.

Posada knocked the stuffing outta that one.

Ivan says:

That’s a DP if that’s Longoria playing 3rd.

handtius says:

pc69 says:

See…. speed kills. Posada’s blazing speed caused Aybar to rush…

pc69 says:

Again, Matsui sprinting down first, faster than Ichiro…. Speed is an excellent weapon.

Drew says:

Crap, Mo probably isn’t avaiable?

Probably is, because Girardi was evil and pulled him and put in Coke. Idiot Girardi.

Drew says:

yeah yeah yeah…

whozat says:

He’s warming, and it’s the bottom of the order…

Still, I’d like a hit from Swish.

whozat says:

Longoria totally makes that play…thank Mo he’s on the bench :-)

handtius says:

cjc says:

an inning built on luck I’ll take it

handtius says:

There’s a ton of luck involved in this game. I’ll take it every time.

Chip says:

Awesome, flyball brings in the go ahead run. Time to get Mo up!

ChrisS says:

groundzilla beat out a DP.

He shoulda tossed the ball to SS and turned it instead of waiting to tag Posada.

But…..but…….this game was over…,.

Ivan says:

Got the lead baby.

Drew says:

Matsui wasn’t running fast, but it looks like he was running freely. That’s an improvement.

dkidd says:

Dave says:

No one id rather see up here than swish

Drew says:

Yes, I was worried Mo wasn’t available.

Chip says:

Alright now that we have the lead, time for Swish to break it open.

BTW, has anybody else noticed that we’ve done this without a hit w/ RISP? We’re still 0-8

handtius says:

Doesn’t matter if they win. What if they get 3 homeruns with a guy on first in each and a triple with a guy on first? Those don’t count towards RISP, but it still gets it done.

whozat says:

Thaaaaat was a strike.

whozat says:

Ball 3, that is.

BigBlueAL says:

Leave Aceves in the 9th!!!! LOL j/k

Drew says:

That third pitch sure looked like a strike! lol I’ll take it.

Will says:

Wow, these “ball” calls are terrible according to Gameday. Eh, I won’t complain.

LiveFromNewYork says:

not according to my eyeballs

whozat says:

Really? That third ball to Swish looked good to me on TV too.

Chip says:

Finally, the Rays are the ones getting squeezed

Dave says:

Jesus, Gameday has Balfour getting really squeezed hard.

Dave says:

pc69 says:

Look who is up…. Yanks will win this one!!!!

LiveFromNewYork says:

Lets walk in another one Melky.

Ivan says:

Melky GS here. Im callin it.

Drew says:

Holy shit. No fucking way.

LiveFromNewYork says:

He didn’t go. That was horseshit.

dkidd says:

starting today, yankees will be in first place for the rest of the season

cjc says:

from your mouth to Mo’s ears

LiveFromNewYork says:

pc69 says:

Shit. Would have liked two more just to give Mo a chance.

Chip says:

Damn, well you can’t argue with three runs there!

V says:

Wow, he wasn’t even CLOSE to swinging.

whozat says:

Seriously. That’s kind of a bullshit way to end a rally.

V says:

It was definitely a gift call, since the pitchers were getting squeezed (though, the strike zone has been small ALL game).

BigBlueAL says:

Bottom 4 up for the Rays, but you have to assume Longoria pinch-hits for someone.

Chip says:

I’ll bet they pitch to him today after all the reports yesterday

LiveFromNewYork says:

and you assume Mo pitches to him.

John says:

I’m not gonna lie, kinda nervous here for Mo

LiveFromNewYork says:

Mo has ice water in his veins.

John says:

yea, he’s the shit but he has me worried against these pesky rays

handtius says:

And he can turn water into Old E.

Will says:

Yanks better get this win, or else they cost me Garza’s fantasy win for nothing.

V says:

That happened to me with Price yesterday, lol (he’s in my 20 team deep keeper league). And I had Sabathia in both of my 12 team rotos, heh.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Mo is good in saves. Yesterday was not a save.

V says:

Mo is good when his velocity is at 92. Yesterday, it was at 89-90.

Chip says:

I think it’s amusing how Mo has one bad appearance and suddenly everybody is worried about him. Watch him go 1-2-3 with a pair of strikeouts and shut the media up

Drew says:

LiveFromNewYork says:

whozat says:

It’s so irritating. Every hiccup is a HUGE news story.

You think there’ll be any ESPN coverage of Matsuzaka’s shitty outing today? Nah, they’ll talk about how his 8K’s mean he’s rounding back into form, and ignore the 10 hits and 5ER in 5.2 innings.

If Joba did that, all we’d hear about is how he needs to go back to the pen.

whozat says:

Isn’t it kind of dumb to have a “player of the game” when the game is still hanging in the balance? If someone hits a game-winning HR here (or in the bottom of the ninth, if we get there)…wouldn’t that kind of obsolete the choice of Aceves?

cjc says:

but but but what about the sponser

LiveFromNewYork says:

It would suck is Ace was the losing pitcher. He smoked em.

whozat says:

How would that be possible? Aceves didn’t give up any runs…

Steve O. says:

No tie game, bring Mariano in.

BigBlueAL says:

Chip says:

Interesting question my buddy just asked me:

What happens if Longoria comes up, hits one out but tweaks his hamstring on the swing and can’t jog around the bases?

I remember seeing that happen in a softball game where the fielders actually carried the girl around otherwise a pinch runner would have been put on first. Anybody know?

whozat says:

I know it’s happened, but I can’t remember what they did. I think they were allowed to pinch run for the guy.

Chip says:

But I assume the pinch runner had to take over and stay at first right?

UWS says:

The pinch-runner will run the bases, that’s what happened with Gabe Kapler a few years ago.

whozat says:

Thaaaaat’s who it was. I knew I saw it.

Drew says:

Mo, show everyone why I hated walking him yesterday!

dkidd says:

total domination. forget about it.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

LiveFromNewYork says:

Mo says eat my shorts.

Will says:

Oof, rough win warble there.

BigBlueAL says:

Kinda an ugly win be we’ll take it every day!!! Back in 1st as long as Texas holds on.

Chip says:

What a great win

Rey22 says:

So much for Mo being human.

handtius says:

Oh my god, but we can’t beat the rays or the redsox!!!!>!!>!!!@11!!1!! We need to pack it up this year. WE SUCKSKSS1!!!!!111!!

John says:

“WE SUCKSKSS1!!!!!111!!” the extra K and 2 extra S’s were a nice touch

Ivan says:

Terrific Win by the yanks.

cjc says:

and now we turn to tbs and cj wilson

John says:

Dave says:

Chip says:

Woot, double play and now Ortiz up to end the game for Boston

CT Yankee says:

CJ Wilson is one scary looking dude

bizarrojamie says:

Really? I think he’s rather attractive.
And the blue glove is just icing :)

TheLastClown says:

Here we go CJ Wilson!

TheLastClown says:

handtius says:

we’ll never leave 1st again.

Charlie says:

Dave says:

Good to see Swisher heating up again,

LiveFromNewYork says:

Mo said he won’t say told ya so to Joe because he’s the manager. But he thought the suggestion by Kim Jones was pretty funny.

Dave says:

Hah, and at the rate with which the yankees score runs in the 8th, Al aceves has a shot at 15 wins this year

Some call me...tim says:

20 game winner HOF’er!

Drew says:

First place, back where we belong. :)

Charlie says:

OT, but i love how people thought the mariners could contend cause of their hot start. That team is an absolute joke. Griffey is their 4 hitter and he’s hitting 220.

Mike HC says:

I am really starting to like this team more and more. I even enjoyed yesterdays game. While the team is not perfect, and not quite the 1998 Yankees (but who are), they at least have some fight in them. The additions of Teix, CC, and AJ have really made noticeable differences. This has been the best Yankee off season since I can remember.

Zack says:

“not quite the 1998 Yankees”

yeah 114 wins or bust

TheLastClown says:

Nancy Newman: “Keeping Tampa at Bay, if you will”

Face, meet palm

Dorian says:

Kay with a “grittyness and guttyness” reference on the postgame show.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I went to today’s game…but had to leave in the 8th -_-

kunaldo says:

that sucks dude…with this team this year, i dont think i would leave any game early

JobaWockeeZ says:

I WANTED to stay but I had a party so I had to.

Just as a note, this is why I think Cash is further flubbing the whole Hughes/Wang thing. The right move in this game was to go to Aceves, not throw Hughes out there in a close game for his first relief appearance. Hughes should have gone to the minors, and he could have come back for Wang after 10 days, or two starts, anyhow, if Wang was awful. The only thing I can imagine is that they did it to intentionally limit his innings.

Zack says:

send hughes down before you even see Wang start again, what if just bombed in the first or second? kill the bullpen when you play 10+ days in a row?

Dave says:

I hope Pettite brings some legit innings tomorrow to close this series out.
