BigBlueAL says:

Yankees really grinding out at-bats so far.

Drew says:

Michael Kay why are you 10000 times happier than I am? Fuck off.

V says:

Well…

3rd hard hit ball.

65hughes says:

time to get hughes in their

Zach says:

cjc says:

don’t worry wang is fine he’s only had 3 balls hit hard off him

Yeah, but his stuff looks great.

cjc says:

lol yeah I mean hey its only 5 hard hit balls basically he has out pitched wakefield

I was being sarcastic.

E-ROC says:

Right. Down. The. Middle.

What a piece of shit. I’m so sick of this.

gxpanos says:

“A piece of shit?” Really?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah really? You don’t give Wang nearly the same amount of patience you do with Phil Hughes. He won’t be fixed in 2 starts.

Try comparing their ERAs for the season and then we can talk. Hughes has been flat out dominant at times this year, Wang has yet to have one acceptable start.

Drew says:

C’mon bro. Wang >>>> Hughes. A bad 4 games doesn’t make him horrible. He’s a good pitcher. Hughes has been great, and not good. AJ has been pretty good, and horrible. AP has been good, and horrible. Joba’s been solid, with one or two speed bumps.

Zach says:

“Hughes has been great”

he’s had 1 great game this year

Drew says:

like I said, he’s been “great” and not good. As in, he’s been great, and not good.

Zach says:

I know, and i was clarifying that he’s been great once.

1 great start
1 good start
5 not good starts

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Lanny says:

You cant compare the two at this point. Hughes is at least competent. Wang is Rudy Stein.

2006 Wang? Yes
2007 Wang? Yes
2008 Wang? Yes
2009 Wang? No, and its not even close.

I’ve yet to see the 06-08 Wang at any point this year. There are guys that lose it all of a sudden, for reasons that don’t seem to make any sense. Dontrelle Willis comes to mind. If you would have stuck with Dontrelle for the past few years, you were hurting your team. Wang with an ERA north of 14 is hurting the team.

Slu says:

Oh boy. What’s the excuse for Wang now?

JobaWockeeZ says:

A fastball right down the middle called by Posada is an attempt for a strike?
Nothing to do with Wang’s sinker so really please.

gxpanos says:

Nah. Posada set up outside, Wang got it over the middle. Bad pitch to a good hitter.

Slu says:

OK. Just making sure.

BigBlueAL says:

Yeah guys keep praising Wang for the great game he is pitching today. He flat out sucks right now and should be put back into the bullpen and be lower in the pecking order than even Jose Veras.

Zach says:

Phil Hughes has a 5.30 era and has never shown consistency in the majors

BigBlueAL says:

Don’t give up, counter with Wang’s ERA.

Here:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....yerId=6209

14.34 and YES, IT WENT DOWN!!!!! AFTER GIVING UP 4 ER IN 2.2 IP!!!!!!

Zach says:

Except Hughes and been healthy all year and Wang is still working himself back into gear. Hughes hasnt accomplished anything compared to Wang, but 4 runs in 5IP in his last start is acceptable i guess.

I will resist the urge to embarrass you with the game logs showing who has pitched better. You’re wrong, we’ll just leave it at that.

Drew says:

But teh TExas!!1

WesternYankeeFan says:

It’s nice to see Pavano get shelled by Kansas City.

John says:

We’ll come back!!! I know we will…some breaks have to go our way!

Cmon Law of Averages. do your thing!

WesternYankeeFan says:

I think that is a good swing in any ballpark with a pitch like that you fucking moron.

Smitt Dog says:

If this gets outta hand (its not even close yet…) I wanna start beaning some motherfuckers. Who’s with me?

justin says:

I’m so down…right in the face…meanwhile Boston is right back to its apartheid. This team is entirely comprised of scruffy white-dudes.

That’s for losers. I’d rather win the game.

Charlie says:

Wakefield not getting bombed is a very frustrating experience to watch.. i know its not as easy as it looks, but its 65 mph down the middle from a completely out of shape 42 year old, for god’s sake.

Rey22 says:

This thing is just PAINFUL to watch D:

Reggie C. says:

Is this Wang’s last start of the season ….

Lanny says:

It damn well should be if they are serious about winning.

leokitty says:

This is making me so depressed. The more they trot Wang out like this, the longer he stays broken.

pc69 says:

This is just fucking bullshit. I think the only way the Yankees can beat Boston this year is via forfeit.

pat says:

cry about it

oh wait, you already are.

pc69 says:

yes, I am crying. That was a great response. In the meantime, Wang is getting pounded and you are happy? go to Bostondirtdogs.com.

pat says:

You’re incessantly bitching like a small child and it’s wearing thin. We are tied for first place with the Red Sox. Losing a few games to them is nothing to cry about.

pc69 says:

my bitching like a small child is the same as your insipid comments to everyone you disagree with = hello pot I am kettle. I am sorry that mediocrity is acceptable to you but it is not to me.

I want Boston buried, I want a 5 game lead by the end of the week, and I want the Yankees to play like Yankees not like Staten Island.

If that bothers you, unplug your computer.

justin says:

Sorry what is there to like about being made to look this bad? Hopefully Hughes holds this thing where it is because losing 7 straight to the Red Sox? I don’t know how I don’t cry about that.

pat says:

Sory big sloppy try again next time.

justin says:

Chien-Ming Wang sucks ass…I’m sorry they can sugar coat it until they have diabetes but I haven’t seen anything promising from him. Not saying he’s done…I don’t really have the skills to judge anything like that but he is definitely not good enough to start for the Yankees right now. They fucked up by bringing him back they need to get him out of here. This is embarrassing, I hate the Red Sox and I hate that they look so much better than the Yankees right now…horrible. I can barely watch.

aaaaand that SHOULD have been out. To Ortiz, no less.

Charlie says:

at some point we’ve got to stop making excuses for Wang.. he just sucks. Former 19 game winner or not, it’s not looking good for him and the yanks can’t afford losing every time he pitches.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m calling it. Wang will come back to form and he’ll devastate after the All-Star break.

Charlie says:

I would love to believe just that… but i can’t

DGeezy says:

o boy ortiz hit it far …CURTAIN CALL TIME!!!!

pat says:

sadly enough they gave him a standing O

Aaron Boone says:

is hughes even warming? that was crushed to the hardest part of the park…

Riddering says:

Not on Melky’s watch, Ortizthisone!

John says:

I still give him one more start against the Mets for all the marbles

Why? What have you seen that makes you want to see him pitch again?

JobaWockeeZ says:

A sinker that sinks. You’re patience for Wang is completely nonexistent.

justin says:

Patience is for spring training…we’re almost half-way into the regular season…this isn’t the time for patience

Nah, Wang isn’t here to help the Yanks win, the Yanks are here to help Wang ‘get going’. Everybody knows that.

Who cares if we lose games that might cost us a playoff spot. As long as Wang is happy.

Nady Nation says:

Maybe the organization shouldn’t have called him up prematurely, and lined up his 2nd start back, on a limited pitch count mind you, at Fenway.

Lanny says:

They cant keep sending him out there to get his brains bashed in. Even the AAA Mets will pound him.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

We all know they screwed up on the call up, and I didn’t like pitching him in Fenway. But the fact remains he’s still not helping us win any games, which is his job.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

tim says:

Can we put him on maternity leave?

Smitt Dog says:

Finally, hughes is up.

JackC says:

They’re punishing his pitches now

Charlie says:

Hughes better be pitching next inning

E-ROC says:

Phil Hughes is warming up. Thank Mo!

Mike HC says:

I hope that Wang is just rusty.

Tom Zig says:

He is on regular rest.

Reggie C. says:

uhmm. …. we’re way beyond “rusty” as an excuse at this point.

WesternYankeeFan says:

pat says:

AAaand YES turns the mic’s up so everybody can hear the yankees suck chants. Bahaha

JackC says:

What’s the over/under at this point of Wang lasting longer than Burnett last night?

Charlie says:

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Come on Wang get out of this inning pleasee thats all i ask for.

The Iron Horse says:

if anyone else is listening to sterling, you know why he needs to disappear

JackC says:

Why? What’s he bloviating about now?

The Iron Horse says:

“in other sports, you can tell your team to toughen up, and they’ll come out after half time and play harder. what can you do in baseball? punch the pitcher in the nose?”

- john sterling

justin says:

There are a lot of people on the field right now I’d love to punch in the nose.

JackC says:

He is tragically bad. I’m impressed he’s observed the game accurately enough to know the Yanks are losing, at least.

Charlie says:

that’s brilliant if he actually said that.

Hova says:

That is why baseball is an individual sport. It is the furthest thing from a team game. Never on the same level of football or basketball when it comes to comradery, teamwork, etc.

Just a bunch of individuals playing independently. Hence all the thousands of statistics you can compile on them. That’s why so many teams with no team chemistry or even internal hatred for each other have won championships. You’ll never find that with a football or basketball team.

Charlie says:

Wang looks as fragile as glass out there.

V says:

I’ll say it now – right now, today, Red Sox fans are better than Yankees’ fans. The cheering for Ortiz vs. the booing of ARod clinches it for me.

Man, you fucks are annoying as shit. You’d think we’re watching the fucking Pirates in their 17th consecutive losing season the way you whiners keep bitching and moaning.

I’m out.

The Fallen Phoenix says:
pc69 says:

What does +1 mean? Is that like “and one” in basketball?

Drew says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

Red Sox fans ARE better than Yankee fans.
It’s not just today.
Ortiz gets a curtain call for a fly ball.
A-Rod gets booed for a fly ball.
Wang is hated be a lot of fans because their patience is no where to be found.
If he was as bad as his first start it’d be 20-1 right now.
As bad as this start is it will continue to improve.

Drew says:

Plus they yell “STE…….ROIDS.”
Boston = good stuff.

Have fun rooting for your new team.

Charlie says:

i think i’m gonna cry. Everyone here is allowed to complain about the yankees, that’s the way it is.

Reggie C. says:

Honestly …. its easy for fans to have good will towards players when the home team has won 2 world series in the past half decade and is routing the hated rivals. i’d stand up and cheer too after a long fly ball.

justin says:

Good get out no one asked for your opinion anyway

pat says:

Swish you are clearly not derek jeter nor will that forgive your last two brain farts.

Drew says:

Good one Swisher.

Ivan says:

It’s really tough to see CMW pitch cuz, you know the guy is so much better than this and right now he’s not on his mojo right now. He’s basically fighting with one hand tied behind his back.

Buddy says:

How come the Sox fans cheer their favorite players even when they struggle but our d!ckhead fans booo mercilessly when Arod or Jeter struggles.

Their team and even their fans are better.

Zach says:

You really want to cheer a guy batting .190?
Accept crap and you get crap

Buddy says:

Yeah, cuz if the Sox fans starting booing Ortiz he would get better. You must be one of those dumba$$’s who boo our players. Yeah! That’ll gettem going!!!

Zach says:

There’s other options to booing when a player is in a slump or doesnt come true, you do nothing and accept that a ‘good’ hitter fails 7 out of 10 times, that a pitcher can give up 2 runs in 1 inning and go on to pitch a great game.

DCR says:

Varitek, Manny, Schilling, and Foulke were all booed.

pat says:

Yankee fans are complete shit.

Read this thread for examples 1-100

DGeezy says:

i find it to be completely absurd for them to give ortiz a standing ovation for making a long out & giving him a curtain call after every homerun he’s hit this year.

justin says:

Are you people kidding me? Does booing really bother you that much? Did you get booed by your parents as kids is that why you give a shit about it. These people get paid millions of dollars to perform, they don’t give a fuck about what a bunch of drunk idiots who paid way to much to see them suck do. If they don’t care why do you?

Riddering says:

That’s like saying someone who cheers for tupperware is superior to a person who cheers for diplomatic progress in troubled areas in the world merely based on their outward enthusiasm.

Yes, I just compared the Sox to tupperware and there’s nothing you can do about it.

TUPPERWARE!!!!!! WOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Smitt Dog says:

I know it was probably just to atone for the error(s) earlier, but you have to love a guy whose instinct leads him to do that… in Fenway no less.

John says:

Well, a lot of the sabermatricians have been saying that someone who does miss a lot of bats and does not get enough K’s, like Wang, will struggle. They’ve said that Wang will get into trouble but he had been proving them wrong. But can it be that their statements are becoming true now?

Zach says:

Derek Lowe and his 60million disagree

John says:

Ummm in his career his K/9 is higher than nearly 2 than Wang’s

Zach says:

while playing in the NL West, while he was a starter in Boston it was 4.9-5.2
Imagine if Wang got to pitch to the pitcher twice a game.

Zach says:

While Wang had his K9 rising: 3.6, 3.1, 4.7, 5.1

Joey H. says:

It’s walks that are going to be his downfall. He needs to not be afraid to pitch to contact because comes the time you give up a big blow you’d rather have a minimal amount of runners on base obviously. But I see your point, it’s well taken. I just want to see him continue to challenge guys. This game is very within reach.

John says:

BTW trust me I still have faith in him

tim says:

Is Swish just trying to figure out a way to leave early?

Jake H says:

And the Taiwan economy crashes again

Bryan says:

Is anyone else pissed that the Yanks completely panicked when Joba got hit and now we are paying the price?

Joey H. says:

Wow. Why not let him finish the inning against some dude I’ve never heard of before?

Zach says:

he did hit 22 HR in 400 AB in AAA last year

Joey H. says:

CMW was lights out in the minors too.. O_o

Raf says:

dude ripped it against him last time

Joey H. says:

Gotcha. I must have switched over to the Met game that time. Maybe he just wanted Hughes into the game without waiting since we all know the Yankees will be teeing off on Wake next inning.

tim says:

C’mon Phil. Make ‘em rue the day they put you in the pen.

Drew says:

Middle of an inning. I guess he had plenty of time to warm, otherwise, I’d doubt we see him.

JackC says:

2 2/3 innings is the magic number for Yankee starters this series

Raf says:

ugh the Wang situation was mishandled and its coming back to bite them in the ass. you maybe give Wang one more start but you cant expect anymore than this right now and they cant keep running him out. stuck in a tough place for sure.

Slu says:

How many pitches did Wang throw?

bonestock94 says:

Wakefield is gonna get shelled tonight, I can feel it. This one is far from over.

Joey H. says:

Absolutely. If they just stop being so anxious and wait on a couple pitches.

Reggie C. says:

that’s all well and good , but we just saw the end of Wang tonight.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Nope we’re going to keep seeing him.

bonestock94 says:

No way its over for Wang. Maybe another stint in the bullpen or even the DL. You can’t give up on him yet, he was too good so recently.

Jefree says:

I’m not watching on TV. What did Swisher do?

Charlie says:

Why now? Why not let him try to get out of the inning at least?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Because Wang is the worst Yankee pitcher to ever pitch the game and we need to kill him. He sucks, nobody likes him and he’ll never become good again.
And no charlie, this is not a mock to you.

Dorian says:

Now on the mound for the Yankees. Phil Hughes numba #65

Matt M. says:

Ugh…what are we gonna do with wang.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Easy. Let him continue starting.

Joey H. says:

Let him pitch. I’m impressed. His stuff was great. Once he gets his confidence back he’s going to be awesome.

I don’t know… His velocity was good, but I don’t know that his “stuff was great.” Looked to me like he was throwing the ball straight to the dirt because the sinker wasn’t sinking like it used to.

Joey H. says:

Was he getting particularly mashed with sinkers up like before? Just for an example, go look at the walk to Youk. Sure, it was a walk. However look at the location of those pitches. They were much better

Meh… I’m not really arguing strenuously with you here because I don’t know what the next move is with Wang (leave him in the rotation or put him in the ‘pen). But, yeah, he did get mashed tonight when he got the ball up into the strike zone, because he didn’t have the sink he needs. Was he as bad as he was in early April? No. But he was still really bad tonight.

Joey H. says:

Really bad? Absolutely not. Absolutely not. Look what I said. “Like before.” He is clearly well onto his way back. With the rotation as is they can afford to let him work out his troubles in the rotation, it would be totally asinine to throw him back in the bull pen.

The statement where I used the words you quoted, “really bad,” was not a statement about his performance tonight relative to his performance in early April. To the contrary, you should look at what I said. He was really bad tonight. He didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning, put 9 runners on base (including a HR), and gave up 4 runs. That’s really bad, whether it’s an improvement over his early April performances or not.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Joey H. says:

Thanks for all the pretty italics. I think he’s moving along and I’ll continue to think that in my own happy little world regardless of what you say. Sorry, I just can’t get gray hair over something I have absolutely no control of. No pun intended.

Dude, I never said he’s not improving. From the start I said his performance tonight was not as bad as his performances in early April. I honestly have no idea what point you think you’re arguing with.

I’m also pretty sure your penultimate sentence was not a pun. It would have been if you were referring to something Wang had no control of, with the ambiguity of the use of the word “control” being the crux of the pun, but there’s no way anyone would confuse something you have no control of as a reference to Wang’s lack of control of his pitches.

Just sayin.

Riddering says:

Supportive comments for Wang = manna from heaven.

I agree. He picked himself up and delivered some nice strikeouts tonight. I want to see him continue in the rotation.

Tim says:

They got Hibachi at the new stadium?

Tim says:

Kenny Singleton, Phil used better not get used to relieving and the problem was not not enough strike, it’s that every strike was tattooed.

Joey H. says:

Hey guys, What are your thoughts on guys who come out of the pen in late inning situations throwing curve balls? I’m just curious what everyone else things because in most cases you see sliders/slurves and pitches to that nature.

pat says:

FUCKING HUGHES BALKED GET HIM OUTTA HERE

JobaWockeeZ says:

Actually the patience level of Hughes >>>>>>>>>>>>>> patience of Wang.
If Wang balked someone it is the equivalent of Hughes giving up 10 runs.

Please stop with the Wang/Hughes-patience attack on other commenters. CMW’s ERA is over 14 and he really hasn’t given the Yankees a reasonable chance to win any game he has started this season. If Hughes performed like that there aren’t too many people who would argue with demoting him to AAA to get some work in.

Lily says:

i don’t get it? if he’s on an 85 pitch count why did they take him out? if he wasn’t built up to pitch 100-110 pitches why let him pitch in games that count with teams like boston who take pitches? another dumb move by girardi and yankees. this team is a fuckin tease i can’t take them. and whats with our hitters swinging at the first fuckin pitch. this shit is annoying.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah man I wish Cashman made a 1st place team for us. I’m tired of dead last.

Zach says:

we’re only tied for first! they fucking suck!1!!

LiveFromNewYork says:

I think we’re about to be kicked out the AL East because we suck so much. Maybe out of baseball altogether

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah we’re going for a winless season this year.

Lanny says:

We’ll be winless in the Wang starts.

Dorian says:

MOTHER FUCK JORGE POSADA. How many times are you going to call for a fastball on the outside corner? I mean Christ, you insist on pitchers throwing what you call and won’t call for a fastball inside. The clown called 5 consectuive fastballs to Drew before he pounded one off the wall. Then, as if Youkilis wasn’t paying attention to the last AB, you call for a 2-0 fastball on the outside corner. What did you think was going to happen?

I have loathed his pitch selection for a long time, but this is the final straw. It’s no wonder Phil throws his 2 best games of the season with Molina and Cervelli. C.C is rolling along with Cervy and then here comes Posada and C.C gives up 5 runs all of a sudden.

Sincerely,
My Rant

bonestock94 says:

I guess its good that I listened to Mike Axisa about starting Wang. And to tommy smith john whatever I actually did draft oliver perez for a late pick lol. I traded him for Linebrink though whose paid off though.

pat says:

Dirrrrrty curve. Nice phranchise

pc69 says:

I just love Phil’s hook. Nasty!

Hughes says:
Hughes says:

I type Hughes when my name is Ivan LOL.

Lily says:

ok its now time for the yankees to be patient hitters and for hughes to keep us in this game

Tom Zig says:

Is it me or does it look like Hughes put on some serious muscle weight this off season?

BigBlueAL says:

I believe he said he added like 10 to 15 lbs in the off-season to get stronger.

pat says:

Agreed, he looks alot thicker.

JeffG says:

Yeah, he’s got stronger.

BigBlueAL says:

Hughes’ 2 curves were nasty as shit that ab.

JeffG says:

Wang looks dejected.

Max says:

Anybody watching the ESPN broadcast instead of YES? Sutcliffe is wearing me out…

I liked him better when he was shitfaced and mumbling about Bill Murray and George Clooney.

Luis Polonia says:

I think you speak on behalf of everyone else in saying that.

Charlie says:

If Phil wasn’t here, i would advocate continuing to start Wang, but hughes is just flat out nasty.

Drew says:

Swisher should be sitting down for the rest of this one. I know he’s trying out there but sometimes, “trying” isn’t good enough.

Jake H says:

I didn’t know you could hit a ball that was at your neck.

Seriously. How he foul-tipped it is beyond me.

JackC says:

Does anyone else think it’s weird that Posada, according to YES, had only 7 career ABs against Wakefield coming into the game?

Zach says:

that cant be right. Wake has like 32 starts, 200+ innings against the Yankees

Aaron says:

he’s had about 6-7 abs per year against wakefield for a decade or so…

77 career PA, 63 AB.

Matt-Pitt says:

Wow… A fu#!@ ton of these comments are absolutely pathetic…

Nady Nation says:

Both these threads have been brutal.

claybeez says:

Probably the price of popularity. I used to do the Bronx Banter game threads with regularity before a cpl Negative Nancy’s started showing up daily a cpl seasons back. And, boy were they insistent. 1 or 2 are still there. I’ll check in, but it gets to be too much when the Yanks are losing.

Chris V. says:

WOW You guys are ridiculous. This is like a lohud game thread. It’s june and we are in first place relax a little.

LiveFromNewYork says:

It’s whiny 6 year old girls. They should be going to bed soon. Or they’ll grow a pair suddenly when we start winning.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Unfortunately. But I think it’s starting to cool down now that everyone got what they wanted.
Ok this ump is garbage. He’s giving all these calls to Wakefield but not to Wang.

Tim says:

Walk off a knuckler, who would’ve thought?

Raf says:

taking pitches does lead to good things. someone tell the dugout

John says:

yea but those 2 first pitches to Robbie and Alex were literally right down the middle according to Gameday

JackC says:

Time for Swish to atone

BBDC says:

If the Boston Red Sox were 0-6 against the Yankees and on the verge of going 0-7 wouldnt their playbook call for them to instigate a brawl, featuring he who wears a mask while throwing punches at ARODs face.

Should the Yankees consider doing the same or is this something that only works for scrappy blue collar underdog overacheiver teams like Boston

Zach says:

only gritty teams are allowed to do that, overpaid no-heart losers cant

Lanny says:

Would it kill them to throw at Youkiliss and keep that going? Start treating him like Pedro treated Jeter in the early 00’s.

John says:

Oh snap! Wakefield pumped some gas against Matsui and hit 73!

Zach says:

did the YES gun show 97???

DCR says:

No matter the out come of this game, I am getting drunk and doing cannon balls into upscale hotel pools after this. WHOSE WITH ME?!

Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I’ve just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you’re doing and listen.

CANNONBALL!

pc69 says:

do you think ARod, Posada and Cano are taking notes that taking pitches is a good thing against Wakefield

Zach says:

left out Jeter’s name

E-ROC says:

Melkman delivers!

JobaWockeeZ says:

I THOUGHT THIS GAME WAS OVER!

Drew says:

C’mon, you know some people think the game is over after (or today, before) the 4th inning. No need to beat that horse.

Zach says:

4th inning? I though the first team to score wins??

Lanny says:

It’s good to spot a great team 4 runs with a pitcher who shouldn’t be starting the majors in their home park. Good thing Girardi has a limit on the pain he can endure and took him out to actually give team comeback a chance.

Drew says:

lol Swisher made sure that time…

Raf says:

Matsui didnt. easy DP if it gets caught

Raf says:

yeah melky. good to see some patience now, hopefully they keep it up

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

nice hit melkyy.

All right. RAB rips on someone, and they come through. Go MelkY!

John says:

great now you’re cheering for him again

Zach says:

was he ever cheering AGAINST him?

Max says:

Here we go. Big Inning.

Slu says:

Nice! Rally Time.

Tim says:

Is it just me or is Wakefield starting to look like Eddie Harris a la Major League?

Slu says:
Tim says:

Up your butt Jobu.

Hughes says:

Come on Melky, get a big hit.

Hova says:

Mr. Pawlikowski. Didn’t you mention on the last thread that its clear as day they would never bring Hughes in during the middle of an inning? Can that have a seriously adverse affect on his arm? If so, Cashman needs to rip Girardi a new one. We already mishandled the Wang situation, and now they’re fcuking with a future stud.

I did say that. I don’t know why they did it, but it might have somethin to do with Kottaras at the plate.

E-ROC says:

C’mon Jeter…

Jake H says:

Jeter looking terrible.

Raf says:

he really needs to just stop swinging first pitch. especially in that situation.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Please Flaherty be quiet. I don’t care if its luck or skill, I’ll take the run.

Why is Jeter in such a hurry?

Ivan says:

pc69 says:

WTF? Jeter have dinner plans.

Luis Polonia says:

Did I just hear them discussing Papelbon as a potential HOFer? I wasn’t really paying that much attention.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Obviously. Papelbon brings intensity to this game unlike Joba Chamberlain.

Jose says:

And a 250 career ERA+, 10.5 SO/9, and 127 saves at 28 years old.

Luis Polonia says:

21 guys have had more saves at 28 than Papelbon…including Ugueth Urbina. Two of those guys are HOFers. Closers that make the HOF do it because they have longevity and are successful over a long period of time. We’ll see where he stands in 10 years.

Hova says:

From PeteAbe:

Not sure what there is left to say. Wang is at a career crossroads at this point. He is out of options, he apparently isn’t injured and he can’t pitch remotely like he used to. I can’t imagine the Yankees DFA him and what trade value could he have? But they can’t keep running him out there if he’s going to pitch like this.

Lanny says:

You know it’s really bad for Wang when Pete Abraham says its almost over for him.

Zach says:

Great insight, think i may of heard it once or twice over the past 3 months

JobaWockeeZ says:

Let him start 2 more games. If it fails put him in the bullpen until this time he is PROVEN to start.

Raf says:

we all hope that happens this year Damon

Tim says:

Please put Damon on for Tex.

Jose says:

Anyone else realize how awesome it is that we could end this series and be 1-7 against the Red Sox, but still be tied for first?

pat says:

It takes balls to throw a 74 mph fastball.

Ivan says:

Yeah when nobody expects it.

Tim says:

Reggie C. says:

BigBlueAL says:

Damon are you f’ing kidding me.

Jake H says:

Why can’t the Yanks get a hit with runners in scoring position?

Bill R says:

Raf says:

ugh, was hoping we would get some more that inning.

Ivan says:

Ugh Damon.

By the way, torre is a prick, for saying people didn’t want Damon as a yank.

John says:

damn that strike 2 was so outside

Mike HC says:

I love the RAB commenters telling Jeter how to hit. You guys really think you know how to wike Wakefield better than Jeter does??

I would never tell Jeter how to hit, because I lack the skill. Taking a couple of pitches against a guy who is clearly struggling isn’t hitting, it’s common sense.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yikes if we scored some of these guys in scoring position this game would be really different.
They gotta start hitting with runners in scoring position.
Wait what am I talking about? This is all Wang’s fault obviously.

So I’m assuming Wang just wasn’t very good? I just got in from work/dinner about five minutes ago.

JobaWockeeZ says:

He was better but still pretty bad. I don’t think he was getting some calls that Wakefield is getting though.
He has 3 ER since Swisher made an error.
He’s improving and that’s the important thing.
If he wasn’t he’d give up 20 runs to this Boston offense.

Bill R says:

wasn’t very good? Wang was fucking awful!

JobaWockeeZ says:

Oh come on! Please really you’re ignorance amazes me.
He is IMPROVING from ultimate suckitiude. 3 ER in 2.2 IP compared is not good at all. But compare that to his first three starts.

Drew says:

It’s tough to say, obviously the score says horrid. IMO, Wang had some good pitches and 0 control. Couple that with defense that forgot to catch the ball and a little misfortune, you have 4 runs in 3 innings.

DGeezy says:

poor pitching, poor defense & poor hitting with risp…we’re still in the game but it’s not lookin good.

Zach says:

why isnt it looking good? they have men on base every inning against Wake, and we have Hughes out there. what can go wrong?

DGeezy says:

bonestock94 says:

This is definitely a muted game. I’d rather watch it on NESN.

Max says:

Sutcliffe makes it sound like the Sox had a 5 game lead coming in.

Reggie C. says:

Alright Hughes . State your case.

Tim says:

Anyway Wang can get “injured” again?

Zach says:

anxiety disorder looks like a good choice

JobaWockeeZ says:

Seriously if he gives up 7 runs an inning again just put him for another DL stint and don’t give a fuck about what other team’s think.
But that should be a last resort.

Bill R says:

I’ve just received word AXL aka the prophet AKA Nostradamus AKA the savior is on his way. So Have no fear Logic and Reasoning is here!

Zach says:

did he ‘call it’ earlier?

Drew says:

Bill R says:

yes, yes he did. Read the post on phil hughes in the pen and he explains it all there

Zach says:

Where is all the hate when Hughes goes 2-0 against JD Drew?

Zach says:

Yeah, they should have left Wang in, he was getting the job done. That singular at-bat defined Hughes’ night.

Zach says:

Take your time Melk, no reason to hurry the ball back to the infield.

Yankees Brawl says:

I got a question about wakefield. IT seems like his fastball sits around mid 70s and knuckleball around mid 60s. My question is how has this guy survived in the majors for the past 14 years or so with that kind of velocity. I know velocity doesn’t automatically correlate to effectiveness but i mean cmon. why cant hitters just lock in.

Drew says:

Because he throws a knuckle ball.

Raf says:

because his fastball isnt his bread and butter.

Marcus says:

The knuckleball breaks a different way each time he throws it (or that’s what it is supposed to do). Even the catcher has a tough time tracking it many times. You can’t lock in on that.

The fastball is just to keep the hitters honest. 75 mph looks like 90 after watching all those knucklers flutter by.

How is J.D. Drew not broken after running for a triple?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Wang you suck though you didn’t pitch that!

BigBlueAL says:

People call Yankee Stadium a bandbox, that was a piece of shit flyball to LF that is a triple a Fenway.

Park Factor for new Yankee stadium-106

Park Factor for past 5 years at Fenway-106

Drew says:

AHhh. Love Melky’s arm. Just missed.

Raf says:

Melky seems to hesitate sometimes instead of just throwing it in. should’ve had him either way but just got to get the ball in

Bill R says:

Axl via the cell phone says he’s calling Youk 2 run shot

Bill R says:

WOW! that was a good call!

JobaWockeeZ says:

LOL. You patience for Hughes is so much more than so of Wang. That is ridiculous.

DCR says:

I don’t know if you realize this but Chien Ming Wang has made one good appearance this year.

Ivan says:

Come on Hughes.

Zach says:

Why cant Hughes throw strikes? Someone needs to scream in his face

Drew says:

Givin’ the runs right back. Dammit.

pc69 says:

Breaking news: ESPN is reporting that Boston can walk on water.

Mike Pop says:

We all know what Lester’s tears do..

Joey H. says:

Let me guess… Gammons?

Zach says:

Delcarmen future NL CLOSER!!!!1!

Zach says:

Bard turns water into wine

Riddering says:

Ellsbury once stole home….when Fenway was submerged in water!

JobaWockeeZ says:

Wang’s fault.

Joey H. says:

I was going to say Cashman’s..

JobaWockeeZ says:

Nope today is all on Wang.

YOU’RE the only one still harping on Wang’s performance tonight, you know.

Charlie says:

i know, right. He’s relentless, though, he’ll keep sarcastically blaming it on wang or girardi for the rest of the game

pat says:

Tim says:

Ugh. Tapping out.

For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

454uh says:

Nothing like the Red Sox, Wang and Burnett to transform you back to April.

BigBlueAL says:

It doesnt matter who pitches for the Yankees anymore, the Red Sox fucking own every one of them.

Lily says:

seriously our only hope now is cc tomorrow…

Reggie C. says:

Why. Can’t. We. Beat. These. Guys. (part II)

pc69 says:

They are just better.

Bill R says:

They are NOT better than us! Their bottom 4 hitters ARE A JOKE!

Mike Pop says:

Even if they are better, they are not THAT much better. Plus, I hesitate to call them better.

The Mo game and AJ game(not yesterday) should of been W’s and the SP’s here this series didn’t really give the yanks much of a shot.

Plus, they have won 6 on the Yanks and are only tied for 1st, not up.

woah, Pop’s here. Haven’t seen you ’round lately. How you been buddy?

Mike Pop says:

Ha, you guys love me, you really, really love me!

Ya, just been out alot was on vacation for a week with some friends in Wildwood. We all know how that goes..

Last thing I remember was I woke up on the floor of some Japanese family’s rec room, and they would not stop screaming.

Was wild.

Drew says:

WE. HAVEN’T. LOST. YET. TODAY.

Actually, Drew, the game is over after 4. These innings don’t count. Even if the Yankees score, the runs don’t count.

Raf says:

how was that not a swing??

manimal says:

Fuck this fucking bull shit, I’m so fucking heated right now Joe Girardi is reallyyyyyyyy pissing me off. The gameplan is just terrible, I havent even seen a curveball by hughes yet. Absolutely retarded.

Mike Pop says:

How is this Girardi’s fault?

Zach says:

blame Girardi for Hughes not throwing a curve?

Joey H. says:

True, Girardi needs to stop serving up those meatballs over the plate. He just has no location tonight.

For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

No no no no no. Didn’t you hear, it was Girardi’s gameplan.
Girardi has been calling fastballs right down the middle as a catcher!

Zach says:

oh shit, he beat up jorge in the clubhouse and stole his uniform and catcher gear!

Joey H. says:

Pissed on his hands too.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Girardi deserves it because him and Wang are the source of every Yankee loss in the history of the Yankees.

Riddering says:

His own or Jorgie’s?

Joey H. says:

*Rips out hair* Dammnit!!1!1!1!!!!!!1111!

Charlie says:

ietc, and also, phil has thrown quite a few curves.

Joey H. says:

There are plenty of things you can blame on Girardi. In fact, I might be one of his biggest critics but that was absolutely ridiculous.

For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

No, It’s Posada and is Catcher ERA. sarcasm*

E-ROC says:

Too much of the plate on that one.

Charlie says:

On a positive note, Carl Pavano just got absofuckinglutely ROCKED.

Raf says:

doesnt help the Yanks so not really positive

jonathan says:

Can we just forfit the 18 or 19 games against the sox this season so we dont have to watch this!!

Joey H. says:

Nope. Sorry. That’s not how it works. Enjoy.

A.D. says:

Looks like the pitching decided to not come to Boston

pc69 says:

Charlie says:

Oh shit, what happened to hughes there? I stepped away for a minute.

Zach says:

Wang went back out there, gave up a HR, then Hughes replaced him again

JobaWockeeZ says:

LOL beat me to it. Nicely played.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Wang came in to pitch out of nowhere because obviously every ER today is Wang’s fault.
Oh and btw not a mock on you again.

Joba-to-the-pen says:

Phil Hughes for closer. So easy.Who needs MO.

Yankees Brawl says:

im not throwing my towel in but come october, bostons just gonna get tougher.

Mike Pop says:

So are the Yankees.

pc69 says:
