  1. Raf says:

alright lets get at least 2 this inning

  2. Bill R says:

doesn’t mean we’ll bring it home at this rate!

  3. Bill R says:

If Jeter and Damon don’t start hitting we will NOT WIN!

  4. JobaWockeeZ says:

I am an optimistic bastard for sticking up for Wang even if I acknowledge his bad outings when I was making a simple comparison.
Wang will never improve and we should release him for making us lose every game of the season.

    • Bill R says:

We don’t have to release him send him to AAA! We did it to melky and he got better!

      • Zach says:

Glad you’re aware of the situation, because you just can send Wang down

        • Bill R says:

I’m assuming your saying we can’t. Is it because of options? or would we have to DFA him first?

          • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah we can only DFA him. Unfortunately teams will take Wang even though he’s sucking. But we need to give him time and if he sucks for a couple more starts do another DL stint.

          • Chris says:

It’s because of options, so we’d have to DFA him.

          • Zach says:

My bad, yeah we cannot just send him down.

He has no options, they need a ‘injury’ to get him on the DL to get him down there or DFA and theres no way he makes it through without getting picked.

    • Nady Nation says:

Dude, I pretty much agree with your sentiments, but we get the point already. It’s enough.

      • Zach says:

So its ok to bitch at EVERY SINGLE PITCH while Wang is pitching? But trying to be rational after is not ok?

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Heh I tend to overreact to the same extent to these other fans.
But actually I was apparently “clueless” because I didn’t know Wang was a bad pitcher. I said it again because people still don’t get the point.

    • LiveFromNewYork says:

At least you’re not a whiny little girl.

    • Zach says:

Notice how 75% of the comments disappear once Hughes comes in. We evaluate Wang on a pitch to pitch basis

  5. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    dammit swisher.

  6. Bill R says:

Fucking horseshit swisher swing!!!! That was such a hanging curve!

  7. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

are u serious first pitch again wtf.

  8. Charlie says:

Bad call, this ump sucks, but you gotta protect there swish

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

      Disagree then agree.
The pitch was pretty good and since Swish made an attitude the ump probably wanted him out.
I’m seeing a different K-Zone for the Sox and Yankees though.

      • Zach says:

Wang got nothing low, Hughes is getting alot of high strikes, knuckleball havent been paying attention cause its a knuckleball

  9. pc69 says:

    1 pitch inning over

  10. Drew says:

Cap’n and JD. Gotta count on ‘em.

  11. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

SOUND THE TRUMPETS! (Trumpets Play In the Background)

Here Ye…Here Ye…All rise and bow to the one true Prophet…AXL!!!

Yes…Yes…I am here. Fear not… Logic and Reasoning has finally come to the rescue.

I called it all along. No Wang starting…No Hughes in the pen. Outrageous. Simply ridiculous. I called the bad start…I called the 2 run shot from Youkillis…I called Burnett looking terrible from the get-go yesterday. Yet nobody still gives me any respect.

I am the one true Prophet. Listen to my psalms…they are rich with life and truthfulness.

Don’t worry, I don’t look down upon you all (that much). I want to help you see the light. Open your eyes. Rip the ducktape off of them. There’s a whole world out there!

    Enjoy!

  12. Charlie says:

Mother fucker, this is brutal. I’m ready to go into curse like a maniac and call for everyone’s head if they don’t score soon.

  13. pc69 says:

The Yankees just stink against Boston.

    • Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Why though? It doesn’t make sense. Look at their bottom 4 batters in the batting order…and they have Wakefield pitching…

No excuses. Well, Girardi is an idiot and started Wang…knowing all well what he was going to get out of him.

    • Jamal G. says:

Yeah, and Philly is 1-4 against the Mets. Who is the better team of those two?

      • Charlie says:

1-4 does not equal 0-6(almost 7). the yanks are > sox, but they’re not showing it against them at all.

      • BigBlueAL says:

Difference is you cant honestly say the Yankees are better than Boston, actually all the evidence suggests Boston is better and has been since 2007.

    • boobie says:

Angels beat the sox 9 out of 10 times last year before the playoffs then the sox killed them. It obviously doesn’t make this any less worse but still gotta find something right now.

  14. Chris A says:

I think Pete Abe has a good idea to help Wang…bring in Guidry for a while just to help him.

  15. pat says:

Holy shiiiit that lady has a nice booty.

  16. Dorian says:

Poll: Who wishes to sit through another Wang outing?

  17. Drew says:

    Bring up teh Heathcott!

  18. Arman Tamzarian says:

I didn’t get to see Wang pitch, was there anything positive to take away from it?

  19. Zach says:

    ANOTHER walk by Hughes

  20. The Artist says:

Buster Onley weighs in on the draft, and discusses changing the current system, as many other have written about recently. He discusses the possibility of a slotting system, and how unfair the current system is to small market teams.

We’ve heard this take a lot lately, but there’s a flip side to this argument. If you have a slotting system like they do in the NFL, that doesn’t hurt the MLBPA one bit, and it helps the owners. Especially the small market owners who want the top talent for less than its worth on the open market. Union members don’t get hurt (minor leaguers are not members of the MLBPA) small market owners benefit, sounds like a no-brainer, right?

So who gets hurt? The draftees. The Steven Strasburgs of the world who despite the fact that they are labeled ‘can’t miss’ still miss at least half of the time. And lesser prospects miss at a rate many times greater. If these kids were able to market their services like you or I could in a free market system the top guys would get millions more than they currently can. Believe it or not, the 50 mil Boras is asking for isn’t unreasonable, that what he would get if Strasburg was able to declare himself a free agent. Maybe more, the BoSox paid over 100 mil to acquire the rights to Dice-K and many scouts feel Strasburg is a much safer bet and has a much higher ceiling. And no, the players dont all make it back on the other end with free agency. The MLB draft is highly speculative, the vast majority of draftees will never be free agents on the major league level. This is their one big shot, and the small market owners want to take that opportunity away from them.

So the kid for whom the MLB draft is his one big shot to make a big payday, based on talents that may or may not develop is the one who gets sacrificed at the altar of parity. All to benefit the small market teams. Sounds good for the Pirates, and bad for the draftees to me.

    • Bill R says:

      you already posted this

    • Zach says:

“Believe it or not, the 50 mil Boras is asking for isn’t unreasonable, that what he would get if Strasburg was able to declare himself a free agent. ”

      Yeah but he…is…not…a…free…agent

If i was 6’4 and threw 100mph i could get 50m, but since I am not and do not i dont think im getting 50m anytime soon

    • Chris says:

      Just two comments:

      1. When people look at the value that a team gets out of a draft pick they always compare it to what a similar free agent would cost. Using this formula, it’s impossible for free agents to make up the difference because if the free agents made more money, it would increase the gap between pre-FA players and free agent players. I guess my point is that in the end to players do make the money back (it’s not like teams are going to pocket the money they save on the draft), there’s just no way to measure it.

      2. I can’t see a hard slotting system, but I could see a system where they apply a luxury tax to bonus/salaries over slot. Although this could backfire and make the high-bonus guys even more cost prohibitive and steer more of them to the teams willing to pay.

      • The Artist says:

1-Your point about FA is well taken, and you could even go further by saying if all players at all levels were allowed to be FAs, supply of available players would spike overnight and salaries would plummet across the board as a result. The Union would never go for anything that loosens the FA market, they like it nice and tight.

2-How about tying revenue sharing payments to draft budgets? The pretense under which revenue sharing was instituted was ‘competitive balance’ (which in Baseball translates into “The Yanks are winning too much”) but we all know many owners have simply pocketed the cash. If they were forced to spend it on the draft or return the money to the league, I bet they wouldn’t mind the ‘signability’ cases as much.

  21. pc69 says:

I think ESPN announcers have clauses in their contracts that pay them more every time they slobber all over the Red Sox. They get fined for complimenting the Yankees.

    • Bill R says:

My friend works at ESPN and everyone who works their walks around with the biggest Hard On for the Red Sox. he says it makes him sicks. The only one who doesn’t is Tim Kurkjin

      • Zach says:

Dave Winfield has some love for NY, although he doesnt really do anything on BBTN

      • HolyGhostClaw says:

Kirkjain is one of the biggest Yankee nay-sayers on BBTN.

        Plus I hate his half-rat-half-mole-face!!

  22. BIG BOY says:

I just hope we win tomorrow…

  23. Dorian says:

What if Phil started this game?

  24. pc69 says:

Jason, you are officially Phil’s Bitch. Bow to the Franchise.

  25. BigBlueAL says:

All you Wang apologists, even after tonight you still would rather have Wang in the rotation than Hughes???? Seriously????

    • Zach says:

That’s where you dont see the point.

People want Wang in the rotation because its the only way to get him back on track when he had 38 wins and sub 4.00 era over 2 years

Take away that 1 start in Texas and Hughes has done nothing this year.

      • Mike says:

exactly the opposite. take away the one awful outing vs bal and hughes is 3-1 with a 3.44 era.

        • Zach says:

yeah loving those 5 inning games. im sure Veras and the boys will do fine cleaing up 4 inning every game

          • Mike says:

has wang made it 5 innings once this year? oh wait, NO so stop whining about how someone only goes 5.

            • Zach says:

getting Wang back on track is more important than Hughes going out and giving 5IP 3-4ER

          • DCR says:

Wait a second, you’re making fun of Hughes for a few 5IP, 3ER performances when Wang hasn’t even been able to go five innings this year?

You’re also forgetting his first start against Detroit.

            • Zach says:

It wasnt making fun of Hughes, but like I said above getting Wang right is important. If Hughes had numbers like Joba then okay, but he’s not done enough to banish Wang to the bullpen for the season.

Yes did forget his first start

        • Zach says:

take away his best game and his worst game and his era is over 5

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yes because it’ll be a step into getting pre 2009 Wang back. This has nothing to do with Hughes being better. Getting an effect CMW will make this team better. If Hughes continues to be dominant and if CMW pulls it together then it’d be a nice problem to have. So I still want CMW in the rotation.

  26. DCR says:

I want Wang to pitch well just like you guys (Joba, Zach, Drew, and hopefully everyone else here). The problem is that Wang isn’t giving his team a chance to win. Hes out of the game by the 4th inning usually with about five or six runs on the board. Have the Yankees botched the situation? Yeah, it could have been handled better. At the same time, its June 10th. The Yankees are in a pennant race. They need guys to give them a chance. You can bad mouth and be extremely critical of Hughes all you want. Hes still had a better season then Wang and still gives the Yankees a better shot to win every fifth day. Tonight, the control isn’t all there but he has worked around it. Its just unfortunate his one mistake was a shot to Youkilis.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

3 ER and an unearned run was from Wang. The Yankees can definitely get back in the game. The lack of clutch hitting to many people’s surprise is not Wang’s fault.

      • DCR says:

I never said they couldn’t. Part of the reason they can get back in the game is because Wang is not putting nine base runners on in about three innings. Its fine to root for someone but don’t try to promote the idea that tonight was an encouraging start for the Wanger.

  27. Bill R says:

Thank god i moved to CA from MA because I can only imagine how obnoxious the sox fans are going to be tomorrow

  28. Lily says:

    great bullpenn has taken over

  29. Jake H says:

You know when Jeter, Damon and A-Rod aren’t hitting it’s hard for this team to win.

  30. Bill R says:

Great we are into their impenetrable bull pen

  31. Raf says:

ok lets do something against their pen

  32. pat says:

    TEH BULLPEN!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    seee yaaaaaaaaaaa

  34. A.D. says:

    Boom

  35. Bill R says:

    Thank MO!

  36. Jamal G. says:

    Bandbo… oh, wait…

  37. Reggie C. says:

    nice Fenway Pawk homer

  38. Dorian says:

“The Greatest Bullpen of All times” Let the comeback begin.

  39. E-ROC says:

This RedSox bullpen is lights out. Keep throwing those meatballs.

  40. Drew says:

Wait, I thought Ramirez was unhittable?

  41. Matt-Pitt says:

    Bandbox

  42. Brooklyn Ed says:

…yeah that Youkilis home run hurts now.

  43. Bill R says:

    YYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  44. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    seeeeee yaaaaaaaaaaaa

  45. Raf says:

    fuck yea!

  46. Reggie C. says:

    nicer Fenway Pawk homer

  47. DCR says:

    Teixeira!

  48. Will (the other one) says:

    Damn, son!

  49. Ben C says:

    BELLY TO BELLY

  50. BigBlueAL says:

Tex is a man!!! He is 40!!!

  51. Mike Axisa says:

Mark Teixeira is a straight up pimp. Lock up your daughters.

  52. JobaWockeeZ says:

I THOUGHT THIS GAME WAS OVER!!!!

  53. The Artist says:

    YES!!!!!!

    TEX IS EN FUEGO-OOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. DGeezy says:

TEX sure came to play tonight

  55. Nady Nation says:

  56. Matt-Pitt says:

    Seeee yaaaa

  57. Ivan says:

    YEAH BITCHES.

  58. manimal says:

ZOMG, 4 Homers to right field. TEH WIND CURRENT.

BTW, I called back to back to back, Arod do your part…

  59. Zach says:

I think Mike Francesa just had a heart attack

  60. We can do this. We have the tchnology…

  61. JobaWockeeZ says:

The new yankee stadium is a disgrace to baseball because it is cheap so the Yankees can get home runs.

  62. Ivan says:

I guess Mike was right all along uh.

  63. Lily says:

straight down the fucking middle cant arod do anything

  64. Will (the other one) says:

“Terry Francona must be in shock right now.” –Rick Sutcliffe

No, Rick, you must be in shock right now. Just because you spent the last ten minutes slobbering all over Ramon Ramirez’ un-hittability doesn’t mean it actually exists. Do some research for once and check his freakin’ career numbers.

  65. BigBlueAL says:

I think we can officially say Arod is in a slump.

  66. Brooklyn Ed says:

so Ramon Ramirez gave up 2 homers, which hurts my fantasy league stats. =(

  67. E-ROC says:

I would like to personally thank the Royals for putting that a$$ whoopin’ on Pavano.

  68. Buddy says:

AAAAAANNNNDDDDD… Axl shuts the fuck up…

  69. JobaWockeeZ says:

Anyways if we don’t tie we’ll see Papelbon in the 9th granted the Sox don’t score again.
And Papelbon is due to get owned by us again.

  70. 27 this year says:

I have a question, Arod ain’t hitting right now. What if we switched Tex and Arod in the order so maybe Arod gets some pitches to hit adn can heat up ala Tex.

  71. Raf says:

    no way

  72. BIG BOY says:

    great umpire

  73. JobaWockeeZ says:

As much as I hate this ump I think that area has been consistent to both teams.

  74. Ivan says:

    Posada hit a homer.

  75. Nady Nation says:

Can we please move Cano down in the lineup? His OBP is sinking below .325

  76. Dorian says:

Ken Singleton speaking the truth. Gotta love it.

  77. yankees=warriors says:

If only Hughes had started the game…

  78. Raf says:

and once again out of the zone

  79. Aaron Boone says:

RAB speaks the truth, winning run at the plate

  80. I go to the bathroom and make a snack and teh Yankees are only down by one?! I thought the game was over guys!

  81. BIG BOY says:

    okajima vs matsui

  82. Jay J says:

Who is the better jap… i vote matsui…

    • pat says:

Hmmm not so sure jap is politically correct… this isn’t Boston you know.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

It’s actually bad to call them “Japs” since of their WWII usage and can kind of been seen as their version oh the racist term that is said to black people.

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

An A-Bomb, from…(awkward silence from John Sterling)

    • 27 this year says:

      I am pulling for Matsui.

What do I want more, Hideki to line one right off of Okajima or hit one out? Each has its benefits. One makes today good the other, perhaps a few games.

    • 27 this year says:

I love the SNL skit of Jeopardy.

I’ll take JapAN US (ANUS) relations for 200 Alex

    • Drew says:

      Horrible.

  83. pat says:

Well Ramon there goes teh ERA. You punk beeyotch.

  84. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

    Two things:
    1) Carl Pavano
    2) Bandbox!
    3) Hughes wait in pen justified
    4) 225′ triple. WTF were you Peter Gammons?

  85. giselle says:

the take 5 little man reminds me of pedroia. that is why i will never play that game.

  86. Drew says:

Okajima has owned his fellow countrymen. I’m going off of memory but I think I’m right. Now is a reat time to snap that.

  87. Ivan says:

Hughes has been terrific but I can see the yanks giving CMW another start no?

  88. Mike Axisa says:

I’m thinking Hideki will win this matchup.

    DUCWIDT?

  89. Jay J says:

Red Sox like to see their nice bullpen ERA’s… They cont how many innings it’ll take to get their ERA under 3.00 or 2.00, i’m glad the yankees count their world championships… and need more than 5 hands to do it….

  90. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Wang’s WHIP makes Phil Hughes’ WHIP look like Christmas…

  91. yankees=warriors says:

Is it true we got Ramon from Japan first?

    • Bill R says:

      Yeah we had him first

      • Traded him for Shawn Chacon, which was integral to getting the Yanks to the playoffs in ’05. Small and Chacon. What a tandem. Too bad Chacon forgot how to pitch after he took one off the shin in 06.

        • yankees=warriors says:

In that case, I’m not sorry he’s gone, especially if we continue to own him like today.

Yup, Chacon and Small, the year of wonders. But then Randy Johnson allowing those HRs in the playoffs totally killed it…

    • Zach says:

      cashman sucks

  92. Jay J says:

i’ll take another swing like that from matsui… on a fastball.

  93. rsam says:

AJ burnett better stop that pie throwing crap and improve his pitching this is not a joke.I think it may be time to put hughes in the starting rotation and just accept that wang my be done.Thank god we did not give him a long term contract.Next we should go after doc holiday he will be a free agent next year.It is all about piching. This all started when mo gave that two out homerun to bey in the first game we played red sox.just like the hit he gave up to the marlins in 2003 with two men out we still have not lived that down.

  94. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    fuck

  95. Mike says:

hughes back out for the 7th?

  96. Matt-Pitt says:

Got 2 back. Just gotta hold em now and wait for the other 2.

  97. pc69 says:

    Matsui, ugh!

  98. Jay J says:

Way to go mr. no eye lids

  99. Conan says:

Matsui – stop bailing out like a little girl and swing like a man.

  100. Ivan says:

At least the yanks cut the lead to 1.

  101. E-ROC says:

If only Xavier Nady was here……………

  102. Dorian says:

Is Tex the best free agent signing Cash ever made?

  103. Bill R says:

if we give up another run we’re done for. getting 2 against Papelbon will be tough as it is

  104. JobaWockeeZ says:

    We forgive you Swish.

  105. Raf says:

    what a catch!

  106. Way to fuckin’ go Swish!!!

  107. Dorian says:

    SWISHALICIOUS!!!!!!!

  108. Drew: atonement enough for you?

    • Drew says:

:) I’ll tell ya what. That’s a hell of a play. I’d like to have those two misplays back but can’t argue with that grab.

  109. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

what a play shyt thats numba one play tonight for sportcenter wow.

  110. Reggie C. says:

Kay-gasm all over my surround sound right there …

  111. Holy shit. I love Swish, but I didn’t think he had that in him.

  112. claybeez says:

    What a legit play!

  113. Mike Axisa says:

70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water. The other 30% is covered by Nick Swisher.

  114. Conan says:

    Holy Swish!

  115. Nady Nation says:

Wow. Abreu definitely would’ve made that play.

  116. Jay J says:

NICKY BOY!!!! Screw that one nut prick… lowell… i wonder if he plays Lotto, cause he’ll win every night that lucky bum… except for tonight.

  117. Ivan says:

    SWISH!!!!!

  118. The Artist says:

Bobby Abreu makes that play look easy.

  119. E-ROC says:

    Keep Hughes in the game!

  120. Max says:

This is killing me. Somebody needs to glue Joe to his fucking seat.

  121. Charlie says:

A little racist, but Japanese baseball players in general either suck, are not worth it, or burn out at a relatively young age.

  122. Raf says:

good outing by Hughes. one misstake but kept it under control

  123. Bill R says:

Ok Coke it’s the Grape Ape at .197 attack him!!!!

  124. Ivan says:

Does David Ortiz warrants a lefty specialist?

    • Accent Shallow says:

That’s what I was thinking. Then again, if you want to pull Hughes, now’s a good time, no?

  125. DCR says:

Great catch by Swisher. Nervous about Coke.

  126. Dorian says:

Great job Phil. Keep it goin Phil

  127. jonathan says:

FOR THE RECORD, TAKING OUT HUGHES WAS A TERRIBLE MOVE!!

  128. brian paul says:

    we got this.

  129. Matt-Pitt says:

I guess I missed one hell of a catch by Swish

  130. McCaff says:

Has Coke pitched yet this week?

  131. Bill R says:

    Coke Classic!

  132. pc69 says:

Who looks worse swinging the bat, Fat Papi or Bailout Matsui?

  133. Jose says:

I thought Swisher should’ve been benched Drew? Before he could make more mistakes like that amazing catch.

  134. Bill R says:

So its Swisher, Melky, and Jeter in the 8th and if no one gets on Damon, Tex, and Arod in the 9th and i really like our chances with them up!

  135. Ivan says:

By the way terrific outing by Hughes. One mistake but overall kept his team in the ballgame. Good job.

If there’s one thing you love about swisher, it’s his heart, He might not be Paul, tino, or bernie, but his heart is just as big as all of theirs…. something the yankees have been missing.

  137. Accent Shallow says:

    Alright, who pitches teh eighth1?!

(For both teams) Okajima and . . . hopefully Veras, after the Yankees hang a 10 spot up there.

  138. Dorian says:

See this is where I have the problem with Jorge. Jorge wants pitchers to through exactly what he wants and then argues when guys shake him off. His pitch selection might be the difference in the game right now. He calls five consecutive fastballs on the outside corner to Drew and then, as if Youkilis wasn’t paying attention he calls for one on 2-0.

Molina and Cervy always try to make sure the pitchers throw what they want and have conviction in. While also incorporating scouting reports and what the hitters are looking for. Jorge must either be flexible or get from behind the plate.

Besides that spotty command in the first full inning, Hughes has looked muy bien. his arby clock has already started, get your money’s worth, $man.

That dive by swisher boosted his UZR by like 5 runs.
