  1. Raf says:

alright lets tie this thing up

  2. DCR says:

    I will never drink responsibly.

  3. Charlie says:

I’ve always liked Coke. I bet he becomes more and more reliable down the stretch.

  4. Drew says:

    This thread is balls.

  5. Jay J says:

    Great Catch and a….

  6. Dorian says:

When Nick walks. Do you pinch run with Gardy? I do.

  7. Justin says:

    Come on Swish

  8. pat says:

    This thread is Fear Williams

  9. DJ says:

We need to take the lead by a large margin this inning, just so that there’s no chance I have to look at Papelbon’s face tonight.

  10. Charlie says:

can swish work a count or what

  11. Zach says:

Does anyone else get that Listerine pop up?

  12. Jay J says:

Great catch and… a great walk.

  13. Aaron Boone says:

    good eye, Swish!

  14. Mike Axisa says:

WTF was that litte Listerine ad?

    • yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

lol Mike i found dat weird to.

    • HolyGhostClaw says:

Its probably the beginning of a new annoying trend in sports. In-game ads that cover up part of the screen while the game is being played.

And then during the real commercial breaks we get to see ads for the lovely state of Massachusetts.

      Thanks YES.

  15. HolyGhostClaw says:

I have a craving for Listerine. Anyone else?

  16. Raf says:

hey Brett lets steal the base tonight. you can do it kid.

  17. Drew says:

Okay, Swisher is off my shit list. Please, next time, catch the ball. I hate when we are so distant.

  18. Charlie says:

gardner better not get caught here… i do like this move though

  19. Jay J says:

    a melky spotting…

  20. JackC says:

    Do you have Gardner steal?

  21. Justin says:

    Gardy’s gonna steal

  22. manimal says:

I find it hard to believe Shelly Duncan can’t do better than Angel Berroa at this point. We need some sort of RHB to pinch hit.

  23. DJ says:

I’m not getting this Listerine nonsense at all. You guys need to get rid of your DREADED Gingivitis!

  24. BigBlueAL says:

    DONT BUNT!!!!

  25. manimal says:

Gardner better not miss a sign again.

  26. Enough with the fucking bunting. Just let Gardner steal for fuck’s sake.

  27. DCR says:

Gardner has gotta go in this situation.

  28. Charlie says:

that was ball 1, and small ball is fucking horrible. why give up outs?

  29. Ivan says:

Don’t bunt Melky, Gardner can get to 2nd himself.

  30. Jay J says:

not a bad play… couldve been a better bunt, same outcome as a better one though.

  31. Reggie C. says:

    Why??? Pointless sacrifice.

  32. BigBlueAL says:

What a waste of an at-bat.

  33. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

    What was more impressive…

    Moses parting the Red Sea…
    Nick Swisher’s catch…
Axl predicting anything and everything to happen on a daily basis…

I’m going with #3…I know you all go with it too…but you’ll say something else out of spite…

  34. Mike Axisa says:

If you were just going to bunt him to second, you could have left Swish in. He could score from second on a single.

  35. Nady Nation says:

God dammit Melky. If you’re going to bunt, let Gardner fucking steal first.

  36. DJ says:

ARGH! That bunt just hurt my soul

  37. manimal says:

With Melkman hitting in a clutch situation in the 8th, I would NOT bunt. But whatever.

  38. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

melky u lucky dat was gardner running cuz okajima would of had a chance to throw him out.

  39. People criticize Swisher and say he’s not an everyday player because of the long slump he went through, but even with the slump he still has an OPS of .935!

  40. cjc says:

dont like that ab at all

  41. Jay J says:

no double plays needed… shouldnt have bunted, but Jeter coming up…

  42. DGeezy says:

i’m probably pushing it but id really like gardner to attempt to steal 3rd

  43. Jose says:

Steal third, they’ll never expect it.

  44. Justin says:

    Captain Clutch?

  45. Every time we bunt a guy over to 2nd base an angel loses its wings. :(

  46. BigBlueAL says:

    Gardy steals 3rd????

  47. Just saw the tweet from RAB. I didn’t think of that–makes sense though. I suppose they can risk the steal of third.

Btw, has anyone won the Twitter contest?

  48. Charlie says:

One of the main reasons i don’t like girardi that much is he gives up too many outs. IF you want small ball, then have gardner steal and THEN bunt melky so a sac fly would get in a run. what we did there was just stupid.

  49. pat says:

Honestly gardner, I like you, you’re a useful enough player I don’t mid you starting a game here or there BUT IF YOU DON”T STEAL HERE YOU”RE COMPLETELY FUCKING USELESS.

  50. JackC says:

Don’t understand that move, frankly. I find Girardi to be a little too enamored of the bunt. Especially on the road

  51. DJ says:

I need someone to keep track of Girardi’s sac bunting pace this season, because it feels as if he’s on pace to break a Yankee record.

  52. DCR says:

Anyone just hear that guy go ‘I AM SO EXCITED!’ when they showed Papelbon and Saito on ESPN?

  53. What the fuck was that, Jetes?

  54. Raf says:

the Captain has not looked good tonight

  55. BigBlueAL says:

This might be the worst game Ive ever seen Jeter have offensively.

  56. Justin says:

    Captain Blind…

  57. JackC says:

Ach. Terrible AB from the Cap’n

  58. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    fuck

  59. manimal says:

    Jeter 0′fers. Great.

  60. Jay J says:

why would this guy throw anything but junk on a 1-2?

  61. Charlie says:

jeet shoulda nailed that first pitch, terrible strikeout.

  62. Drew says:

Love Jetes, but, 0-4 so far, Gardner able to steal, Melky hit 2 scorchers, why give an out and “hope” Jetes gets a hit?

  63. Jay J says:

and you swing like a fastball is coming…

  64. That sac bunt is looking even worse now! Why the fuck wouldnt’ you just let Gardner steal?

  65. DGeezy says:

cmon johnny we need a hit here badly

  66. Jake H says:

Jeter has looked completely lost this game. Terrible swings at balls.

  67. Zach says:

    Jeter 0-5 with 5 LOB

  68. manimal says:

STEAL! Worse comes to worse you have 2-3-4 vs papelshit.

  69. I have a feeling that Damon will punch one over Lowell’s head to score Gardy.

  70. Jay J says:

need teixeira up here.. dont need a damon miracle.

  71. JackC says:

I would sell a vital organ for a hit here…not one of my organs, mind you…

  72. DJ says:

Damon’s 2nd pitch swing looked baaaaad. Not a good sign.

  73. BigBlueAL says:

Sutcliffe is an idiot. Why the fuck would Gardner try to steal 3rd now with 2 outs and a LHB up.

  74. Mike Axisa says:

Fight Johnny, gotta get Tex up with men on.

  75. pc69 says:

send Gardner … worst case Damon starts off the 9th

  76. Raf says:

here comes junk in the dirt…

  77. DJ says:

That foul ball just made my heart leap into my sternum. It hurts.

  78. Is it me, or are the Yankees starting to cool off a bit offensively–A-Rod, Jeter, Cano…

  79. cjc says:

    shiiiiiiiiiiittttttttt

  80. kunaldo says:

why didnt gardner steal BEFORE melky bunted?

also, rivera should come in for the 8th no matter what…if we score the run and tie it, or to keep the lead at just 1…

    alas, that will never happen…

  81. Jake H says:

    pathetic.

  82. Shit, this is looking bad.

  83. Jay J says:

hmm… francona just ate gum off of a dirty surface, and Damon is not clutch…

    • Charlie says:

i hope you’re joking with the Damon is not clutch thing, because he has been godlike so far this year. If you’ve followed the yanks at all, you wouldn’t complain about Johnny D here. He homered an inning or two ago also.

  84. Dorian says:

Tex against Papelbon? I like it.

  85. Drew says:

Papel vs. Al, I am excited to say the least.

  86. Charlie says:

Holy fucking mother fucker, there goes the game

  87. BigBlueAL says:

All these solo HR’s, but guys get on base and fucking nothing.

  88. Awful. Just awful. To strikeout and I’m still steamed about the bunt.

  89. pat says:

Whatever, we have the hottest hitter on the planet leading off next inning against papsmear. I’ll take our chances.

  90. Jay J says:

don’t start wang, we’re probably winning… he hasnt been useful all year.

  91. E-ROC says:

What waste! First, you put in Grit Gardner for Swisher, yet he hasn’t stolen a base. Gardner is your designated base stealer/pinch runner. Give him the f*cking green light to steal. Nope, lets just bunt him over to 2nd and give an out to the opponent that you’re trailing. Jeter strikes out, as does Damon. Girardi is not maximizing Gardner right now and that’s a shame. I guess he doesn’t value outs.

  92. BigBlueAL says:

Papelbon should just walk Tex to leadoff the inning.

  93. Accent Shallow says:

What’d you guys think of Hughes? I was in a bar, but I left immediately after Youkilis hit one out.

    • That one pitch was a mistake. Otherwise, he looked fine to me.

    • Dorian says:

I had an earlier post about how Posada called the game all night. He did Wanger and Hughes a dis-service tonight.

All in all, it’s obvious everytime Phil steps on mound now that he is so talented. I just want him to put it all together.

  94. JackC says:

Well, that was clinic in how to waste a lead off walk. Not that it would likely be a popular clinic, but sheesh…I get bunting (sort of) and I get pinch running Gardner, but why do both? Surely it’s a one or other type of thingy, no?

  95. DCR says:

Thanks for giving away an out Joe. And thank you for the pointless substitution.

  96. Okajima is pretty slow to the plate, no? With Gardner’s speed, it would’ve taken A LOT to get him out, correct? Why the fuck did they bunt? Ugh. This is gonna piss me off to no end.

  97. Drew says:

Anyone assuming the Melkster wanted to bunt is nuts. We saw Jeter try to bunt a High FB the other day on the first pitch. Maybe bunting when you’re not a bunter isn’t so hot. A sac is a sac, Melk got the job done. Don’t tell me he should’ve waited for Grit to run.

  98. yankees=warriors says:

Well, hope this means we bomb that bum Papelbon!

  99. Jay J says:

i love these no names who can reach the wall… that should be an out… but they play in the pussiest stadium in the world!!!

  100. cjc says:

this fing guy again really really whats next another nick green bomb beyond frustrated right now

  101. Charlie says:

don’t yell at aceves either, he has been absolutely great.

  102. DGeezy says:

ugh this better not be the type of game we give up a run here in the 8th & then homer off papelbon in the 9th and lose by a run.

  103. pc69 says:

wonder if any of Sutcliffe’s team mates jumped him and beat the shit out of him for being an idiot.

    • bxpd says:

The bunt was actually not the move considering it’s rare you play to tie on the road. Plus, Jeet had been slumping. I would have preferred the hit and run. Did not like just giving up an out there. Play for the big inning but create movement in the infield by starting the runner.

  104. Dorian says:

Will anyone talk about the “jewel” they call fenway park giving the scrub a cheap double?

  105. Aceves: Este jodio pinche de mierda! Pendejo gringo.
Posada: Tranquilo. Tirale por el plato a este cabron!
    Jeter: Yeah…what he said.

    and scene.

  106. Bob Stone says:

It is so stupid that YES does a poll on the Most Valuable Player of the game in the eighth inning. Especially when it’s a close game like this one.

  107. Sutcliffe just said Pedroia is “a little bit short of that”.

    LMAO

  108. pc69 says:

odds Papass pulls a Mo from Saturday?

  109. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

You know it’s bad when Aceves is giving up doubles to Kottaras…

  110. JackC says:

I don’t want to fixate on this, but people who claim the manager doesn’t make a huge difference I can get behind, but people who say he makes no difference, I would offer up tonight’s top of the 8th as a counter argument.

  111. Jay J says:

funny, they called that a strike on Cano…

  112. cjc says:

so now thats a ball ugh whatever

  113. Conan says:

I can’t stand watching Drew bat.

  114. Raf says:

    big spot, lets go Gangster

  115. cjc says:

    huge ab here

  116. DCR says:

I am just tired of seeing Gardner come into situations such as the one in the eighth and not steal. If Gardner steals second then there is no need for Melky to bunt. A hit scores the run. Three chances to get him in. Instead, Joe gives away an out and also loses Swishers bat if this game goes to extras or if the Yankees get to his spot in the lineup.

  117. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

1 out and 2 men on for a guy with a .500 OBP…pretty good set up Aceves! Thanks!

  118. pat says:

If this AB ends with youk lying unconscious in the batters box i’ll willingly forfeit the rest of the game.

  119. Jay J says:

A-Squared Wins… unless ump screws it up… like usual

  120. Jay J says:

Is it me, or does it seem like posada doesnt frame pitches… that if he did could be called a strike

  121. DGeezy says:

a base hit from youkilis here & there will be plenty more francesa rants tommorrow about joba to the pen & youkilis being the toughest out in the majors

  122. Hova says:

Come on Mexcian Gangster! You got this!

  123. Please pound Papelfuck.

  124. Jay J says:

francesa is a joke, does he change his mind alot on purpose…. or is it alzheimers?

  125. Charlie says:

my gameday is messed up, for a minute there it showed youkilis having a 5-2 count.

  126. JackC says:

Is it going too far to observe Papelbon represents everything problematic and troubling in Western civilization?

  127. pc69 says:

if the yankees dont at least tie, they will get swept tomorrow.

  128. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Here’s where Papelbon shuts down the heart of our order and I don’t hear the end of it tomorrow.

And people wonder why I’m bitter and angry a lot…

  129. Drew says:

Al go this. He loves taking Paps to the right center BP.

  130. cjc says:

I would give anything for papsmear to get bombed here

  131. Hova says:

I will give my left hand up if we can beat Papsmear in the top of the 9th. Please.

  132. Jay J says:

no, but i’m pretty sure papelbon will blow this like pedroia’s brother and a little boy….

  133. Raf says:

that outside lefty zone keeps creeping further out

  134. Jay J says:

thats a strike to teixeira, but not Drew?

  135. DCR says:

    I hate Papelbon. Legitimately.

    • Honestly, on a personal level, I don’t mind Lowell or Ortiz or Franonca…but I pure…straight…HATE Papelfuck, Varitek, Pedroia, Youkilis, Beckett, and Ellsbury.

  136. Charlie says:

god this ump is all ova the place

  137. Dorian says:

When is the last time Tex took a bad AB?

  138. Charlie says:

can you believe tex is almost hittin 300 after his atrocious april?

  139. V says:

Man, this umpire sucks ass. That first pitch strike was ridicufuckingiculous.

  140. pc69 says:

well, that was the game. Needed Tex to get on. 0-7 against Boston.

  141. Charlie says:

i’m getting nauseous thinking about 0-7.

  142. nathan says:

This is a mismatch… ALex cant turn on Papelbum

  143. Raf says:

    make them eat that chant

  144. manimal says:

I would tatoo Papelbon on my forhead if the yanks could win this game.

  145. BigBlueAL says:

    Nice chant.

  146. Mike Axisa says:

Nice job by the Boston fans to point out the obvious.

  147. Conan says:

Cano comes up with 2 out – game over. Totally unclutch.

    • Charlie says:

yea, he is a bit unclutch unfortunately. But i won’t complain about him.. he helped carry us when we were down in april

  148. JackC says:

    What are they chanting?

  149. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

    Here’s Arod…with another disappointment…what a shocker…

  150. A.D. says:

What are the Sox fans chanting?

  151. DCR says:

Sutcliffe says Red Sox fans are special for chanting YOU USED STEROIDS.

Hey who just got suspended for 50 games?

  152. pat says:

Arod hears disparaging chats in his own stadium, this is nothing new.

  153. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Wow i cant blieve this assholes in boston “You use steroids”

  154. Bob says:

the one flaw with teixeira is that he almost never goes the opposite way with outside pitches when he’s batting from the left side as evidence from that ground ball… he is a much more complete batter from the right side too bad their arent more lefty pitchers

  155. nathan says:

    Chant “You do Steroids”

  156. BigBlueAL says:

    That was his pitch, shit.

  157. JackC says:

    Full count. Gulp.

  158. JackC says:

    All right. We’ll take it.

  159. Dorian says:

    Mike was right again

  160. Jay J says:

walk is as good as a single…

  161. Charlie says:

hey, he got on base. How awesome would a homer have been there though?

  162. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Odds that Arod tries to steal 2nd base?

  163. DCR says:

I knew Pena was going to come in

  164. Ivan says:

    Nice AB A-Rod.

  165. Mike Axisa says:

Maybe Girardi will have Cano bunt…

  166. pc69 says:

    this blows.

  167. …nah. But what the fuck is this? They’ll lose the bat for the rest of the game when you have a slumping hitter at the plate and a runner who isn’t that much faster than A-Rod at 1st. Odds are Pena never sees the plate. Micromanaging, micromanaging I say!

    *facepalm*

  168. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

    In the dirt…strike 3 on Cano? Oh yeah…you betcha…

  169. Charlie says:

    dammit, we’re fucked

  170. V says:

    Pena needs to steal here.

  171. DCR says:

Why is Pena not stealing? This is retarded.

  172. Jay J says:

    pena steal? sounds like trouble….

  173. Raf says:

    gutsy move kid

  174. BigBlueAL says:

Fucking Pedroia with the great backup.

  175. E-ROC says:

    Now we get a steal………….

  176. manimal says:

    Pedroia you fucking bastard.

  177. Drew says:

Pena steals Gardy sits. ugh. Let’s tie this bitch.

  178. Jay J says:

    good thing the catcher sucks…

  179. DCR says:

    Thank god.

  180. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    come on canooooooooo

  181. I’m sorry but how is that a “great play?” Isn’t that what the 2B is supposed to do? The 12 year olds I umpire for make that play.

  182. bxpd says:

    Come on dontcha know

  183. Conan says:

Terrible. Absolutely terrible in clutch situations.

  184. Charlie says:

we’re set up here.. too bad its jonathon fucking papelbon

  185. pc69 says:

    2nd place. Fuck!

  186. Hova says:

    Fcuking Cano. Come on man.

  187. Jake H says:

Why are they swinging at pitches that are at their shoulders?

  188. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Don Orsillo is yelling…Cano strikes out like I called (like I usually do)…

    I wanna stab somebody…

  189. Jay J says:

0-2, throw cano 4 straight balls, no where close to the zone, he’ll swing at one of them.

  190. Yankee1010 says:

Robbie, Robbie, Robbie. What I wouldn’t give for you to have a little more plate discipline.

  191. E-ROC says:

    Great job Cano.

  192. I miss that one week of disciplined Robbie.

  193. DCR says:

Great time for Cano to break out a K.

  194. Charlie says:

that was what we call a ball, robbie

  195. That pitch didn’t look too bad.

  196. pc69 says:

If Posada walks, Pap will make Matsui look sfoolish.

  197. Jake H says:

    A team that goes 2 – 14 with risp shouldn’t win games.

    • bxpd says:

Girardi’s move in the 8th was frustrating but those figures right there are the reason for the loss.

      Damn that sucks!

  198. Raf says:

god this zone is out there

  199. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

we need a single thats it

  200. V says:

HOW IS THAT A FUCKING STRIKE YOU BLIND AS A BAT PIECE OF SHIT?

  201. manimal says:

    This ump is RETARDED.

  202. Jay J says:

thats a strike… to anyone thats not a red sox, i finally see it… thought i was missing something.

  203. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

    Horseshit strike…not even close…Eckersley even said it…

  204. pat says:

I’d love to see the aerial view of all these outside strikes they’re getting.

  205. Oooh, plate discipline! A novel concept!

  206. Charlie says:

wow that was a bullshit call to make up for the first 2

  207. Hova says:

Would the Yankee ever think about selling high on Cano? Seriously, how much higher can his ceiling get? This is what he is.

  208. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    that looked kinda low posada.

  209. Jay J says:

    should be a 5-0 count right here…

  210. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

Here comes the famous strike 3 call against the Yankees to end the game where Don Orsillo starts screaming and yelling…I hate him so much

  211. Posada: 1-7, 2B v. Paps
    Matsui: 0-6

  212. BigBlueAL says:

Pena wouldve been better off staying at 1st. Once he made it to 2nd he was in scoring position so for sure you knew the Yankees werent going get a hit.

  213. Drew says:

Michael Kay is a piece of shit.

    • Tom Zig says:

I’d tend to agree that losing 7 in a row to a team and going 2-15 with RISP is being dominated.

      • Drew says:

You tend to enjoy your announcer calling the last out of a loss as happily as he calls the last out of a win? If that’s the case, we just have a differing opinion. I like for my announcer to at least have a part of the feeling that I have after a loss.

  214. Mike Axisa says:

Damn, he put a good swing on it.

  215. pc69 says:

Yankees will get swept tomorrow. They can’t beat Boston.

  216. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

    Hahahahahaha

Just when I think this team has rounded the bend…they make sure to embarrass themselves

  217. Jay J says:

cant hit a 5,000 square foot wall?

  218. pat says:

    cue the douchebag trolls.

  219. A.D. says:

    too many runners left on.

  220. V says:

This umpire had money on the game. I can’t think of another excuse for that sorry fucking excuse for a strike zone.

Send that asshole to the independent leagues to umpire.

    • Lanny says:

Love the excuse, bud. But you can really think of a better excuse than the ump sucked.

Just accept the fact that Wang is brutal. Is it so hard? Why do you need conspiracy theories?

  221. Reggie C. says:

    Owned.

  222. Belstin says:

    WTF is there deal

  223. E-ROC says:

The depth of the bullpen was the difference, Sutcliffe? lol, where do they find these people?!

  224. Ivan says:

    We get em tomorrow.

  225. Raf says:

this is just bad at this point. only one game out but these games against the soxs can come back to haunt us at the end of the year. gotta salvage the series tomorrow and maybe get more than 2 2/3′s out of CC

  226. Hova says:

0-7. They should be fcuking embarrassed. No moral victories. Just another loss, and now a game out of 1st place.

But wait. They play another game tomorrow right? No worries then. Everything is great.

    • And they’ll play the next day, and the next day, and the day after that. Not the next day, but then they’ll play another, and then another…

      • Tom Zig says:

        I appreciate the optimism.

But seriously, going 0-7 against the team that is going to give you the most competition in your division is really deflating.

      • Hova says:

Yup. You’re right. I’m sure you were saying the same thing last year up until game number 162 right? Then the story switched to they’ll start a whole new season and set of games in 2009, and that’s where we are today.

As Greg Schiano would say, keep choppin.

    • Pasqua says:

Watching this team play against the Sox really makes you wonder how they’ve played so well against virtually everybody else.

We cannot say the Yanks are a truly dangerous team until they show that they can hang with their peers.

Very frustrating. Wins are wins, no matter who you play, but I can’t help feel that each loss to Boston diminishes what they’ve been accomplishing lately.

  227. Dorian says:

    This loss goes on Posada

  228. JackC says:

0 and 7. That is quite the frustrating statistical improbability the Yanks and Red Sox have going on

  229. BigBlueAL says:

At least there is still the Wild Card. LOL sorry had to go there. CC will prevent the sweep. Unless of course Penny pitches a shutout for Boston….

  230. Jake H says:

11 hits with Jeter and Cano going 0-10 leaving a ton of guys on base and looking stupid.

  231. Charlie says:

i’m gonna vent now.. THE YANKEES FUCKIN SUCK. WE CAN BEAT THE SHITTY TEAMS BUT 0 FOR FUCKING 7 AGAINST THE GODDAMN RED SOX. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? WANG SUCKS, PUT HUGHES BACK IN THE ROTATION. That’s enough of his horseshit he calls “pitching”. He’s too weak minded to get through this, and he has no sense of location anymore. Bad, bad loss, we better fucking win tommorow.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

And of course making Wang come back into form isn’t worth it.
And Boston isn’t a shitty team so I don’t know what argument you’re making there.
I know you’re venting but still. Calm down about Wang.

  232. Gah, too bad. Well, the Yankees are one game back of first on June 10. I like their chances to come back.

  233. E-ROC says:

Girardi, let Gardner steal a base much like you let Pena steal one. PLEASE!!!!!

  234. Jay J says:

i’m taking CC as tomorrow’s player of the game, Win.

  235. Drew says:

Sorry Mike, but not even DotF can make me feel better today. Fuck. How many games will we make errors in? Whether they are in the field or mental errors on the base paths, it’s not winning baseball. We went from no mistakes, to one per.

    • Ivan says:

This game had nuttin to do wit errors, the yanks couldn’t get a big hit in RISP and CMW put the yanks in a deep hole.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Deep hole? 4 runs is nothing. We’re against Wakefield! We should get 4 runs an inning!
I love how Wang is getting the blame when Hughes also gave up a 2 run homer or how Swish dropped the ball.
It’s a combination of bad hitting, errors, and bad pitching which isn’t 100 percent on Wang.

    • Zach says:

      There was no error tonight?

  236. Andrew says:

Wow this is disgusting to watch. This is painful to say but the yankees are now the red sox’s bitch! As much as I love CC, who here would be surpised if they get swept?

    • Drew says:

Fuck that. We are no ones bitch. Give me good pitching, give me a win.

    • WesternYankeeFan says:

This panic is ridiculous. Rivera blew a lead on a game we had won up until the last out of the ninth inning. It’s safe to say that’s more or less an anomaly. In the game where Varitek hit a grand slam, Burnett threw strike three, but the umpire ruled it as ball four, which loaded the bases instead of ending the inning. The umpire tonight was a fool and may have cost us the game when he called a strike on the clear ball four to Damon, which would have loaded the bases for Teixeira.

There is not one good reason to be overly worried about this team right now. Fact is the Yanks look and play better than they have in a while, even if Wang isn’t his usual self. Before Burnett’s meltdown yesterday, he held the Rangers to three runs over 13 innings.

  237. Really? A player of the game from the losing team? Really??

  238. Accent Shallow says:

    DFA everyone.

  239. Lanny says:

This game can be blamed on two things. Wang and management for putting his rehab crap ahead of actually winning.

He should be in Scranton getting his innings. Not here to get pounded and abused.

Giving games away is not something teams with championship aspirations do.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Of course the crappy clutch hitting, Hughes giving up a 2 run shot, and bad defense had no factor to this game.

  240. Belstin says:

    I’m Ron Burgundy?

  241. Jay J says:

i’d rather see Wang win every award in Triple-A than have his original 4 ERA in the MLB. One more game Wang, lose to nationals, you’re gone, good luck.

  242. yankees=warriors says:

I hate CMW. He should just get his ass back to Taiwan.

  243. Dorian says:

MOTHERFUCK BBTN I FUCKIN WUD HIT PERFUME IN THE FUKIN HEAD WITH A 2×4

  244. V says:

    Papelbon’s strike zone.

    http://brooksbaseball.dustinki.....v_size=500

There are no words for how horrendous that umpiring job was.

  245. WesternYankeeFan says:

That umpire was un-fucking-believable. They might as well let my golden retriever call the game.

  246. bxpd says:

How can you be disappointed with your team when they’re 34-18 against the major leagues? When they’re 0-7 against your most hated rivals.

    This game just hurts badly!

  247. JackC says:

It’s not simply that they’re 0 -7, it’s that they’ve found, in these 7 losses, all sorts of ways to not win. It’d be silly to panic at this point, there’s just waaaay too much baseball left, even against the Sox. But I think it’d be sticking your head in the sand to deny their record — and their quality of play — against this team is now officially worrisome.

  248. Chris A says:

I don’t get it. So many mistakes…Swisher fly ball non-catch, Wang’s walks, Gardner not stealing while Melky bunts, and on. I just don’t get it.

  249. I know everyone’s pissed at Wang but…the HR from Youkilis was the difference in the game. Hughes made that pitch. Not Wang. I think Hughes looked great tonight…except for that pitch, which happened to be the difference in the game.

    • Zach says:

Jeter 0-5, 5LOB is also the difference in the game

    • BigBlueAL says:

No, the difference in the game was Wang’s horrible 2 2/3 innings.

      • Zach says:

Look at the link a few posts up, 8 pitches that were definate strikes called balls, 4 more that were right there. That’s 12 pitches, somehow I think that makes a huge difference in tonight’s game

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

That’s completely biased based on past outings. He gave up 4 runs! 3 ER I believe! Putting the whole damn blame on him makes no god damn sense WHEN THE WHOLE TEAM didn’t do anything save for Teix. Seriously this is aggravating.

        • BigBlueAL says:

You’re aggravating. He pitched a whopping 2 2/3, 3 runs in less than 3 innings is HORRIBLE. Same way Burnett was horrible and cost the Yankees the game last night, Wang did the same shit tonight, again.

          • JobaWockeeZ says:

I still fail to see how he lost us the game if the bullpen was perfect WE WOULD HAVE WON.
There is absolutely no blame for Hughes giving up his homer. It’s a fucking team effort for not hitting, for making stupid decisions, for doing stupid baserunning, for playing bad defense and for bad pitching WHICH IS NOT ALL WANG’S FAULT!
Of course he was bad but a good of a team like the Yankees should pick him up! They should be scoring 6-8 runs an inning against Wakefield!

            • BigBlueAL says:

You expect the bullpen to be perfect for 6 1/3 innings?????? WTF kind of thinking is that!! The fact that Girardi in the 1st inning when it was still only 1-0 Red Sox had the bullpen active already tells you all you have to know about the confidence the team has in Wang. How the hell can you start a pitcher who you have so little confidence in that at 1-0 in the 1st inning you already have the bullpen warming up?????

Wang right now since he is out of options needs to be the long man/6th starter and be buried next to Veras in the bullpen. Simple as that.

              • Zach says:

Yet people expect perfection out of Wang.

Ball 1!?!!? WTF TAKE HIM OUT
                WALK!! TAKE HIM OUT
                Strike out.. got lucky
                Ground ball.. got lucky
                WALK!?! Give me the Phranchise

                Hughes comes in
                Ball 1….
                Walk….
                HR…

                After the game
                Get rid of Wang!

              • JobaWockeeZ says:

Do I expect the bullpen to go perfect in 6 and a third innings. Of course not. Were you expecting Wang to go a full 6 or 7 innings with 0 run ball? Of course not. So why call for his head after 3 ER when the whole team failed to win!!!! I don’t get why this is a hard concept to grasp. Very little posts about Swisher, Hughes or in general the Yankee offense today compared to the Wang posts.

And I’m going to agree that Wang should be the 6th starter/long man. AFTER his outing against the Nationals. He won’t be magically fixed after 2 ML starts on an 80 pitch limit. Do people want pre 2009 Wang or not? Because I’d love to have another dominant pitcher. The only way that will happen if Wang PITCHES. If he sucks against the Nationals then put him in the bullpen.
Give him the damn opportunity and at the end of the season his numbers will be back to respectability.

      • Wang gave up 4 runs. The Yankees scored 5. If Hughes didn’t give up the two run homer…

I’m not saying Wang did even marginally well, he didn’t, but the difference in the game was the Youkilis homer given up by…Phil Hughes. It was his lone mistake of the game and it was a big one.

        • JackC says:

the real red flag is the variety of viable options we have on whom to peg the loss

        • Zach says:

I dont think its fair to say Hughes 2 runs were worse then Wang but i see your point. The offense today was facing Wakefield and they knew we had Wang going, they were horrible with RISP, Jeter did nothing at top of the order, Cano did nothing.

It was a team effort to lose

          • JobaWockeeZ says:

Exactly. IT WAS A TEAM EFFORT.
It’s not all fucking Wang’s fault and this irrational thinking is incredibly stupid. It’s a fucking scapegoat so you can vent you’re anger on one guy. Vent your anger on the whole damn team if you’re going to vent.

          • Word. I’m just trying to spread the blame all around rather than concentrate it.

  250. V says:

    The Wang hate is ridiculous.

He outpitched Burnett. Heck, Hughes didn’t do his fucking job, either.

  251. BigBlueAL says:

I think if 9 of us got together and put on Red Sox uniforms we could beat the Yankees. If we had any other uniform we’d lose 50-0, but if we put on Red Sox uniforms the Yankees would find a way to lose the game to us.

I can only play 1st or 3rd though, not enough range to play any other position….

  252. Utley puts the Phils up 5-4 in the 11th on a HR down the RF line.

  253. Iowa Yank says:

This is why I hate espn, after 5 mins of sawx>> Yanks they are going to tell us what is wrong with Pujols

  254. Hova says:

But CMW is a starting pitcha!!!!!

  255. Dorian says:

Food for thought. 88 Mets record vs 88 Dodgers: 10-1

  256. Reggie C. says:

At this point, even the Taiwanese people aren’t going to want to associate themselves with this bullpen killing corpse.

I don’t want to see Wang make another start even though the next one is likely gonna be against the Nationals. Do the brave thing Cashman! Admit to yourself the futility of saving Wang’s, and look forward to the future. Insert Phil Hughes.

  257. WesternYankeeFan says:

This panic is ridiculous. Rivera blew a lead on a game we had won up until the last out of the ninth inning. It’s safe to say that’s more or less an anomaly. In the game where Varitek hit a grand slam, Burnett threw strike three, but the umpire ruled it as ball four, which loaded the bases instead of ending the inning. 258. Hova says:

I actually feel bad for Wang. Can you imagine having a child right now with all this going on? Hopefully he shakes off the baseball stuff and appreciates what’s going on in his family life.

I’m gonna pray for the guy to have a strong start against the Nationals next week. Would hate to see his Yankee career end like this with all the potential and talent he has.

  259. pc69 says:

    Blaming the umpires is funny!

He was the one forcing Jeter, Damon, Cano, Posada, and others to swing and the first pitch from Wakefield.

He was also the one who forced Wang to go 2-0 on 45% of the batters he faced.

He was also the one who forced the weak ground outs and pop ups with RISP.

Face it, the Yankees are a lock for the Wild Card and can only hope the Red Sox get beat up by Tampa and Toronto.

  260. Dorian says:

At the end of the day, how many of us would have signed up for taking a game out of Boston and being tied for 1st at this point in the year.

  261. Ivan says:

Papelbon threw 21 pitches and had more balls than k’s (11-10)

Yanks really should of let him pay for that.

  262. Jason says:

All of you who are bad mouthing Phil are retards. Just look at the box score. The Red Sux scored every inning until he came into the game. He made one bad pitch and that was it. Hopefully he gets the start over CMW next time. 2 things lost this game for us… 1. Jeter sucking ass 2. And the umps crazy wide strike-zone.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

No one is bad mouthing Phil. But he deserves SOME of the blame of us losing. The whole team lost and they receive all the blame for losing.
      Wang =/= 2009 Yankees
Wang deserves more blame than Phil but still the whole team is to blame for us losing. The ump was BS but the offense save for the home runs was atrocious today.

    • bxpd says:

I’m guessing Wang gets the start next go ’round. I think it’s going to be against the Nats. What happens if he bombs then?

  263. Hova says:

One positive to take away from this. Fatcessa will finally shut the hell up about Joba to the pen. I hope he understands that Joba is our 2nd best starter right now. In a big game I would take him over AJ, Pettitte or Wang/Hughes.

  264. Dorian says:

How many bad starts until it just becomes who he is this year? I have loved Wanger for his whole career but at a certain point you have to cut your losses. I just want to know when that point is.

  265. AGOD says:

    haha Fatcessa.

  266. Jason says:

Hughes NEEDS to start the next game. Wang needs to stay in the pen where he can bring it without having to hold back. If he doesn’t like that then I’m sure there is some poor team out there looking for a former ace. And we need Pen help and bench help. Lets dangle him and see who bites.

    • BigBlueAL says:

      Ha, lets dangle Wang.

    • Zach says:

If you were GM what would you give up?

      No contending team wants him
No rebuilding team wants his 5m and arbitration when they dont want know they’re getting, not to mention giving up pieces

      • Dorian says:

This is the critical part. They don’t know what they are getting and neither do we. Why do we not know what we are going to get out of our projected #2 starter?

        • Zach says:

I’m a fan of Wang (yea i said it) so I dont want to trade him, but even if I did there’s no value. He said ‘bench help’ but wtf is that, ramiro pena? what kind of bullpen arm are you getting?

They’re going to try to work him out in the rotation, eventually if he doesnt he’ll be the long arm in the bullpen and sit there all season. They wont even go to arb next year, he’ll get what 5.5m tops, they’ll send him to some winter league, get his confidence up, come back to ST to battle for 5th starter.

    • No one, and I mean no one, would give anything of value for Wang right now.

    • Drew says:

Damn. I didn’t know he held it back today. Thanks for that insight.

  267. Drew says:

Most of my anger is derived from Fatty but I see it on here occasionally. Philly has a 5.3 ERA. We all know about the Joba man with his “average 3.5ish ERA,” but this disgust with Wanger, after the way he’s been mishandled just isn’t right. Go ahead and boo, in your eyes, it’s only a positive when he “proves” you wrong. Wang will be there. Velocity is up every game. It should be baby steps yet he is making strides in terms of his stuff. With AJ many say 80 Million!!!!1 With Wang it’s just, send him to AAA/don’t pitch him. I don’t get it.

  268. Dorian says:

You know just how important this game was to people, the game was over half an hour ago and people are still heated and online.

    • Drew says:

It’s not one game, it’s 7. It’s also that we arent the same team that we’ve been watching the past 2 months.

      • Well, to put a bright side onto things, the Yankees have lost 7 games to their main competition this year and are only a game behind them with 102 games left to play. Like I said earlier, I like their chances to make that “deficit” up.

        • Drew says:

Ohhh Hell yes. If I didn’t believe in our team I probably wouldn’t watch. I think we are the best team in the world. However, it is obvious, with less than 6 innings out of our starters and only 5 runs out of our offense in 2 games. This is not the Yankee team we’ve been watching as of late.

    • BigBlueAL says:

Nah man I aint heated, just bored!! Now if CC loses to Penny tomorrow night, watch out…..

    • Hova says:

Its not that this single game was that important. Its just 1 of the 162. Its more the fact that with every loss to the most hated rival in your sport, it gets harder to take as a fan.

We’ve never been through anything like this before. This was a team that we used to own. They were the mentally weak team who could never do anything to beat us in a big spot. Now it feels like that the tide has turned fully in their favor. They keep shitting on us and we haven’t done enough to fight back and respond.

I guess we just gotta keep rooting and hoping it turns around.

  269. Manimal says:

What I would do right now
-DFA Berroa aka worthless piece of shit
-Call up Shelly, see how that works out
-If it doesnt seek out some right handed power hitters to pinch hit
-Give Hughes his job back as a starter, Wang clearly isn’t mechanically stable.
-Make some room for Melancon and use D-rob more often

  270. Dorian says:

Teixera just gave me an erection. I don’t have his exact quotes but they were something to the effect of… “if you don’t think you can comeback you shouldn’t be playing”, “We can’t think we’re going to throw out gloves out there and win.” I mean you hear about the makeup and a lot of the time its overrated. Its everything its cracked up to be with this guy.

    • Hova says:

Aw man. Hopefully PeteAbe has some audio. Would love to hear that. Exactly what I need right now. That and a fifth of Johnnie Black.

  271. Dorian says:

What I would like for tommorrow is for C.C. to go 9 and finish with a fist-pump and some expletives.

  272. Hova says:

Eiland said just now that Wang’s arm slot, while fine in the bullpen, is “all over the place” in games. “He has to take what he does in the bullpen onto the field,” Eiland said. “I know I’ve said that before.”

Dude, its your freaking job to help him bring that into the game. Obviously there is a disconnect from the bullpen onto the field, and you get freaking paid to figure it out!!! You have one fcuking job, and that’s to help the pitchers prepare and make sure they’re ready for work.

    • Drew says:

      He’s fiyad!!11

    • Dorian says:

Dude, I pitched at the college level(Many hitter’s owe their careers to me lol) but it doesn’t matter many times what you do in the bullpen. It’s mostly about you. Only guys like Dave Duncan do reclamation projects. Eiland’s job is to get him right in between his starts. After that, it’s up to Wang.

      • Hova says:

Ron Guidry was able to get to Wang and make him successful. Eiland hasn’t been able to. I agree that most of it is on Wang, but we’ve seen very little to no improvement. Eiland has to take some blame for this.

  273. Axl aka Tom Selleck says:

I’m still waiting for my apology from everyone…

I’ve predicted literally everything…large sample sizes (games)…small sample sizes (at bats)…

    Your Prophet is here…

    Don’t worry…I forgive easily.
