  1. Joey H. says:

Eh. If you think this is bad just remember what it was like with Hughes and Kennedy last year. This is not as bad. He has kept them in the game.

  2. Joey H. says:

So he’s not coming out again right?

  3. The Fallen Phoenix says:

On Joba not being on his way onto being a top starter (that is, responding to a comment that implied that Joba was not):

As do most 23-year-old starting pitchers. David Price didn’t get out of the 6th when he had his 11 K game.

But he’s still a lot further on that road [to being a top-flight starter] than most 23-year-old starting pitchers. And he’s closer to being a top rated starter than, say, the pitcher he’s facing tonight.

He’ll be fine. There’s only one Rick Ankiel.

And now Al Leiter is running off his mouth on things he doesn’t really understand, God bless him.

  4. Double T says:

I think Joba is going to go batter to batter in the 5th. I hope he can settle down and finish off the heart of their order.

  5. Drew says:

I am tired of this fucking warning track shit! Where’s teh friggin bandbox!?

  6. Jose says:

If only we had the Supercaptain on our team. Joba would pitch a no hitter every game.

I’m confident we win this game.

  7. Dorian says:

Look what 3-2 breaking balls got us. Brett Tomko in the 5th inning.

    • Joey H. says:

You’re one of those people who belong in an insane asylum AKA: want Joba in the pen aren’t you?

      • Dorian says:

I want Joba in the Starting Rotation because his potential is being the best pitcher in baseball. I want him in the rotation because he has 4 plus pitches. Don’t talk about me being a B-Jobber. Just because I have a problem with the way he pitched tonight doesn’t mean I want in the bullpen.

  8. The Artist says:

Is there one pitcher on this staff besides Andy Pettitte that doesn’t bitch about Posada?

  9. V says:

Btw, per mlbtraderumors, Todd Linden’s contract was sold to Japan.

  10. BigBlueAL says:

5 innings from the pen, lets just say the Yankees offense better realize 3 runs wont win this game.

  11. Drew says:

Jeez, these negative nancies on here drive me nuts. Somedays it’s just brutal on here. We get it, Joba couldn’t get to strike three, he went 4 innings. It’s not 13-2 right now.
    —-
    We’re winning.

    • Jose says:

But, coming into this game we aren’t 60-0. This is a critical game, we can’t just win we have to make David Wright cry.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

No one will ever be perfect…
We have one of the best records in the MLB and that’s not good enough going in?

        • V says:

Apparently not. Since they aren’t in first place by a million games, the team is t3h suck.

          • Jose says:

If baseball blogs were popular in 1998, there would probably be people complaining about that Yankees team. In the first week people probably would have been saying they were done and had no chance to win.

      • The Fallen Phoenix says:

This isn’t the NFL. Every game is not a must-win. Good teams sometimes run into rough patches, and go on losing streaks.

No one likes to see a four-game losing streak. I’d rather not. If the Yankees don’t win tonight, though, it’s not the end of the world. This isn’t a must-win game. It’s not Game 5 of the ALDS, Game 7 of the ALCS, or Game 7 of the World Series, nor a regular season (or postseason) elimination game.

  12. I totally trust our bullpen with a one run lead.

    • The Fallen Phoenix says:

Eh, Yankees are an inning away from blowing this game wide open. This isn’t going to stay a one-run lead.

But even if it did? Hey, most pitchers who have no command can’t keep the runs off the board.

      • The Fallen Phoenix says:

…I’m not going to take this comment back, because I still think the Yankees are going to put more than 3 runs up on that board. But this *is* a little ridiculous…

    • BigBlueAL says:

I do to, in the 9th inning.

    • charlie says:

      you’re crazy

  13. Ivan says:

I feel alot better if it was Hughes pitching now instead of Tomko. Oh well.

  14. V says:

Oh, lookie, Nick Swisher being stupid. Where have I seen THAT before?

  15. Drew says:

That fucking mohawk is pissing me off.

  16. BigBlueAL says:

    Mets are running wild tonight.

  17. The Artist says:

Swisher killed us in the Boston series, and now again.

This shit has to stop. You can’t have a guy play bthe field like this on a championship team.

    • V says:

Unfortunately, you only have 4 outfielders, one of whom is battling dizziness.

      • The Artist says:

I know, I’m not even saying we should bench him, since obviously we can’t. Its more about Swish getting his head screwed on right, if that’s even possible.

You start to realize why a guy plays on 3 teams in 3 years when you see shit like this.

    • Drew says:

Of course, we can’t bench him. We have a DH who can’t play the field, a guy who plays once every 20 games, and now, JD is hurt.

      • Bleakley says:

Shelley Duncan is a call away.

        • The Artist says:

Please. We saw enough of Shelly last year.

The only way I keep Shelly on the roster is as a NHL style ‘goon’. Our version of the Rangers’ Jeff Beukeboom, a guy who does all our dirty work for us and spends half the year suspended for one reason or another.

  18. John says:

    uh-oh Tomko…this can get ugly

  19. BigBlueAL says:

This is going to be a loooong next few innings. Lets just hope in the end Mo is on the mound in the 9th with a lead.

  20. Joey H. says:

Ok. Base running and fielding blunders happen. But this is getting ridiculous. Stop being concerned with being a nice guy and go out and MAKE THE PLAYS. Look at Paul O’Neill. Total Prick. Good ball player and didn’t make an ass of himself.

  21. Jose says:

Wow. Carlos Beltran has 20 doubles and he has only played in 54 games.

  22. Drew says:

Pen sucks. Can’t wait to see veras

  23. JobaWockeeZ says:

Come On Swish you gotta make those plays.

  24. Joey H. says:

This is disgusting. I know what month it is. So don’t bother telling me.

  25. Ivan says:

If was active, instead of season Tomko, Aceves would be pitching.

  26. Dorian says:

I understand that we are winning. But if you want to celebrate steps that are taken during his development even when he comes out losing a game (last week). We have to be discouraged when he doesn’t progress in his development (tonight).

I would much rather see Joba get bombed than watch him walk the ballpark. He has no reason to be afraid of bats, and he eliminates the ability of the hitter to get himself out.

By the way, now we have Brett Tomko for 2-3 innings.

  27. Drew says:

    Seen enough of tomko

  28. Conan says:

Cano’s failure with RISP looming larger..

  29. Drew says:

    Bye bret

  30. Drew says:

    Thankyou Nick Swisher

  31. charlie says:

Mother FUCKER, fucking Brett Tomko is absolutely awful. Not many major league clubs would carry that fucking scrub on their roster and put him in a close game. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

  32. Dorian says:

And there ya go. Are yu guys happy now?

  33. Bob Stone says:

    This is so f#@king discouraging!

  34. Nick L says:

is Hughes not available til’ tomorrow

  35. John says:

I knew a HR was coming

  36. Joey H. says:

Um, this Met team isn’t better. Why can’t they smash a team for a change? Funny thing is there isn’t an out yet.

  37. BigBlueAL says:

Any old, slumping hitter needs to get out of a slump, come face the Yankees.

  38. Conan says:

Tomko – put it on a tee for him next time. Pitiful.

  39. Drew says:

The joba starter arguement would be better if he ever went 7

  40. Joey H. says:

    I blame Swisher.

  41. Even more wonderful.

    Three runs ain’t shit, though.

  42. John says:

thats twice he gets ahead 0-2 to Sheff and Church but gave up XBHs

  43. Drew says:

Yo, other Drew, please change your tag!!?

  44. YankeeJosh says:

Why can’t Joba throw more than 100 pitches? A starting pitcher should be able to give 120-130 pitches if needed. Think the Yanks could have gotten an extra inning from Joba.

    Time for Dave Robertson?

    • Dorian says:

Because these are the type of games that guys get hurt. He threw 40 pitches in one inning.

      • YankeeJosh says:

He also only gave up one hit. I’m all for protecting Joba, but I think this was overkill. He’s a starting pitcher and wasn’t gassed. If 43 pitches was so much he should have been pulled in the third.

After a culture that abused starter’s arms, the pendulum has swung back too far the other way.

  45. Dorian says:

This is why I want Joba throwing fastballs. Keep the pitch count down and keep him in the game. He was aggressive against the Rays and he lasted 6 innings. Tonight he nibbles and throws breaking balls and he is out in the 4th.

  46. pc69 says:

    well that sucks

    • Joey H. says:

They can really just SELL people? That’s nuts. Or do the players have to consent.

      • leokitty says:

They sold the contract at Linden’s request, he came to an agreement with the Japanese team and asked the Yankees to let him go.

The Yanks agreed to the move after Linden had come to terms with his new Japanese club.

    • charlie says:

OH my god, that is fucking retarded. That guy seemed pretty good, he should have been on our bench for over a month now, not fucking angel berroa.

  47. charlie says:

i’m gonna fucking kill myself. This is disgusting bull shit, FUCK YOU CASHMAN!! FUCK YOU GIRARDI! AND FUCK YOU BRETT TOMKO. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN DFA’D A MONTH AGO. HOW THE FUCK DO WE TRUST THIS PRICK WITH A LEAD?? OH MY FUCKING GOD, ITS HARD TO WATCH THIS TEAM LATELY.

  48. Joey says:

Damn Tomko. Does anyone know what happened to Doc Halladay btw?

  49. Drew says:

    Stop babying joba already

  50. Conor says:

Okay, so I don’t think Joba should be in the bullpen, but we need bullpen help now. We don’t have a single reliever that can be consistently counted on. It is bullpen roulette.

  51. pc69 says:

Did you see Joe’s face, he is thinking the same thing we are, “For 200 million, Cash can’t find me some fucking pitching!” “Good job, Bret”

  52. STOP. USING. DAVE. ROBERTSON. IN. LOW. LEVERAGE. SITUATIONS.

My Mo this makes me mad.

  53. Joey H. says:

We really should have to sign up to comment.

  54. John says:

Kontos, Melancon, Garcia…someone HAS to be better, right?

  55. Drew says:

How bad is igawa if he can’t crack this pen?

  56. BigBlueAL says:

Shit, Lester has 11 K’s thru 7 in Philly. Only up 2-1 though so Phillies could still comeback.

  57. Joey H. says:

If that outing doesn’t get Cash on the phone ASAP I’m not sure what it will take.

  58. Double T says:

Has Tomko pitched his way to a DFA?

  59. Conor says:

Any one of us could manage this game once the starter leaves. It is literally just: Throw somebody out there, hope they get outs, repeat until the 9th inning.

  60. Drew (the original) says:

2.1 innings would be huge by D-Rob right now.

  61. John says:

I just our offense can score 3 runs…

  62. J says:

this umpire is one of the worst i’ve seen. he’s been calling outside pitches on lefties strikes, but the same location for righties balls. Where’s the freaking consistency?

  63. Dave G says:

Third game out of our pitchers don’t go at least five innings. Third game out of four we give up six runs by the 5th inning. No way you can win in little league with those numbers. Three out of six runs because of walks and hit batsman. I’m just not seeing development from this group. Worse, the over 30 (or near 30) signed free agents (Kevin Brown, Jaret Wright, Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa, Sidney Ponson, Randy Johnson, Any Pettitte) have never worked out. Who is going to pitch the next four innings?

  64. John says:

How did Swish mess up again?

  65. Dorian says:

Look at this Robertson challenging people and his stuff can’t wipe Joba’s ass.

  66. Hova says:

Our starters decide to fail us right before the Boston Mets series begin. Amazing. What timing.

BP is going to be gassed after tonight. Pettitte has to go at least 6 tomorrow.

  67. Conor says:

Girardi did so well managing the bullpen last year because the bullpen did exceptionally well. This year, guys are faltering, and Girardi has no idea what to do.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah with the way their performing it’s hard not to eff up. Girardi has faults that’s for sure but this bullpen really needs to throw some strikes.

    • The Artist says:

Yep, a bullpen that doesn’t perform makes a manager look dumb in a hurry, because fans are all geniuses after the fact. Managers of course, don’t have the luxury of knowing the result before making the move.

Classic second guessing, and an opinion not to be taken seriously.

      • Conor says:

This is not second guessing, this is proving a weakness in Girardi’s managerial talents. This year he has overused Coke, just like Torre overused Proctor.

          • Conor says:

Torre had seven guys in his bullpen, but consistently relied on two or three. If we don’t find bullpen help soon, Girardi is going to have no choice but to do the same thing. Even if a guy falters, if Girardi considers him reliable he’s gonna have to go to him again. Robertson shouldn’t be pitching more than an inning, but might go three tonight. Same thing with Coke.

        • V says:

God, you are a total dumbass.

Coke has been used a LOT LESS than Proctor or Sturtze or [insert Torre's bitch here].

It’s not like he has a bunch of guys he can trust to put up zeros.

  68. Drew (the original) says:

I’m serprised we scored 3 runs with the way have looked. We are so bad its embarasing.

    • Drew (the original) says:

Dude, stop using my fucking name.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Heh I was wondering why you of all people would say that.

      • LiveFromNewYork says:

We knew it wasn’t you. You can spell surprised.

      • The Artist says:

I’d like to know who the other ‘Artist’ is around here. Not that its a big deal, its just confusing because I backtrack to see responses to stuff I write, and it gets confusing.

I changed my name from “Steve” for that exact reason, because there were about 5 Steve’s here at the time.

    • Then stop fucking watching. My fucking Mo, it’s a three run lead, not 13. If you really don’t think the Yankees can come back from a three run lead, in this stadium, with that lineup, then you’re clearly not watching.

      • The Artist says:

Matt, don’t get mad. Just tell him Mom he’s surfing for porn on her computer. That should get him grounded for at least a month with no computer privileges.

  69. Dorian says:

Yaaaaay. Let’s all watch David Robertson dominate in the 5th inning while we watch Phil Coke walk the ballpark in the 8th.

  70. Drew says:

Time to get a hit with men on boys. It’s livan!!

  71. Joey H. says:

HA! Livan is at something like 66 pitches. Oh well. Hopefully that means he is in there longer to get BOMBED.

  72. John says:

time to make those deep flies go out now or make them land…PLEASE!

  73. JobaWockeeZ says:

I fucking hate all these fly balls to the warning track.

  74. This is Livan Hernandez. I would like to hit him. More than that I would like the Yankees to hit him.

  75. Hova says:

We can’t lose to this pathetic Mets lineup. We will not lose.

  76. Captain Short Porch!

  77. JobaWockeeZ says:

All our runs from HR’s. I see my angry Met fans screaming in hatred.

  78. Joey H. says:

    Cohen and Keith bitching yet?

  79. John says:

Thanks Jeter…now cmon guys. 2 more runs at least

  80. Drew says:

    Cap!!

  81. Drew (the original) says:

    C’mon Swish

  82. pc69 says:

this game is far from over. Swish gets a hit and then scores off a Rodriguez double.

  83. Accent Shallow says:

    <3 bandbox <3

What’s the deal with Joba? I was out to dinner . . . 4 innings, 5 walks and 2 HBPs? Christ.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah he basically walked all his runs in. In that inning he didn’t allow a hit but 2 runs were scored.
Then Tomko had to go fuck everything up.
But we should start pounding sooner or later.

  84. Joba-to-the-pen says:

The Yankees should just go get a starter and put Joba in the pen.Look at Livian Hernadez. He sucks but has been pitching great for the Mets and against the Yankees. And no more Davis Price Joba comparisions.

David Price is a all-around first round draft pick phenom starting pitcher last year and Joba is a second round pick who fell in the draft for being to fat and injury prone.Put Joba where Goose Gossage said he should be…..the pen.IT’s easy to get a starter to have a 4 Era and be a innings eater.

  85. Joey H. says:

Jerry is trying to prove a point.

  86. Get your Buddy Holly glasses wearing ass back to the bench, Jerry.

  87. Joey H. says:

Oh that’s a way to get close calls. Bark at the umps. Dick.

  88. John says:

    cmon Swish atone

  89. Dorian says:

    On a good note. ManBan threw 7 innings 0BB 4H 1ER 2R

  90. Tampa Yankee says:

Those pitches look way off the plate according to gamedau. Are they that bad?

  91. John says:

ok still 2 more runs given we can hold them…stupid tomko

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m actually in favor of moving Wang to the bullpen because he only had like 3 appearances in the bullpen so he can work his way back to starting if his start against the Nationals/Marlins goes bad again. I don’t know why but I don’t like Tomko at all.

      • Charlie says:

maybe cause he’s a 36 year old journeyman nobody who can not pitch well under pressure.

  92. Joey H. says:

If there is one thing I don’t want to see tonight it’s K-Rod saying mass on the mound in the 9th.

  93. Conan says:

Anyone else concerned we can’t score without the long ball tonight?

  94. Drew says:

Here’s the issue. SP cannot go 4 inn every night. That’s the reason.

  95. Hova says:

Daaaaamn. Lester is a freaking stud. 7IP, 2H, 1ER, 11Ks against that Philly lineup. Ridiculous.

    • The Fallen Phoenix says:

Not going to take anything away from Lester, because he’s a damned good pitcher, but there are a lot of lefties in that Philly lineup. It’s not the same lineup against left-handed starters that it is against right-handed starters.

That said, it’s still a damned fine lineup, and in that park, it’s quite a pitching performance. Can’t wait until next year, when we’ll be able to watch Hughes and Joba spinning performances like that on a regular basis.

  96. BigBlueAL says:

Frustrating when the Yankees out-hit their opponent and are still losing. Happens too often.

  97. Charlie says:

Anyone seen david robertson’s numbers, cause they’re pretty effin good. The guy pumps strikes and can actually gets out, we should be using him in much higher leverage situations than those that he’s been used for.

  98. Carlos Beltran is up. Throw a curveball, Dave. He will not swing. He is STILL waiting for an Adam Wainwright fastball.

  99. Joey H. says:

Gary Cohen just said JOBBER Chamberlain.

  100. Drew (the original) says:

Lol, Eric Bruntlett’s pic on gameday is just weird.

  101. John says:

Melancon please?!!! or Kontos or Garcia (yes, after he’s healthy though and because of another injury i’ve given up on him as a starter)

  102. Drew (the original) says:

In all seriousness guys should we consider letting Dave Eiland go? I mean our offense has been amazing, but we can’t seem to get the pitching when we need it. I’m starting to get frustrated.

  103. Dorian says:

    8 BB’s tonight. Unexceptable.

  104. Mike Axisa says:

At some point, Dave Eiland has to take the heat for all these walks. It’s pretty inexcusable for a staff like this to be walking a zillion guys a game.

    • Drew (the original) says:

Maybe we should fire him. Shake things up a bit. I miss Ron Guidry.

    • Drew (the original) says:

Yo Mike, some ass keeps pretending to be me. I told Ben in an E-mail too but this guy just won’t stop.

    • Drew says:

See his comment regarding Wang. No accountability

    • leokitty says:

I love Robertson, but he does have a known walk problem (that has improved).

I think the reason his has improved is because he’s not throwing his curveball basically ever, but for him to succeed going forward that’s going to have to change.

(As I say that he throws two, but they were both out of the zone–it’s a beautiful pitch but he’s got to get a better feel for throwing it for strikes)

    • BigBlueAL says:

Isnt Leo Mazzone available??? He nearly became the Yankees pitching coach for the 06 season before turning down the offer and going to Baltimore to go with his best friend who didnt even last 2 seasons in Baltimore.

      • Accent Shallow says:

I wonder how much of Mazzone’s genius was having Maddux/Smoltz/Glavine. He couldn’t do crap with the Orioles’ staff.

Of course, for whatever reason, they wouldn’t listen to him/take him seriously.

        • BigBlueAL says:

Well the Yankees have some pretty good pitcher so he wont be working with crap for the most part, especially in the rotation.

  105. Drew says:

Beltran is grinding out at bats. A huge gm miss

    • Conor says:

We chose Randy Johnson at the time over Beltran. At the time it seemed like a smart move and it was refreshing to everyone that we weren’t signing every single guy.

  106. Accent Shallow says:

    Lol@David Wright.

  107. I love that Michael Kay is bashing inter-league play.

  108. Dorian says:

Isn’t this wonderful? Watching out best bullpen arm outside of MO dominate the 6th inning.

  109. Nick Baratta says:

    Joba = Max Scherzer/Clayton Kershaw

there all virtually the same 1/3 of the time they pitch like an ace 1/3 of the time a decent outing and a 1/3 of the time a WTF???? outing

  110. JobaWockeeZ says:

Ah I love you Robertson. One of the few who knows the definition of strike.

  111. John says:

nice D-rob….now go in the dugout and teach others how to throw strikes

  112. Drew says:

    Thanks Mike.

  113. Dorian says:

    Time for another jack

  114. Charlie says:

    d-rob is fucking awesome

  115. Accent Shallow says:

Man, Beltran is smooth as hell out there.

  116. Joey H. says:

Someone needs to tell this Michael Kay asshole that not everything is a home run.

  117. Drew says:

Damn. Livan is living on the track! We’ve got to chase him from the game soon.

  118. John says:

    26 pitches 18 strikes for D-rob

  119. Fuckin’ A. Tip the cap to Carlos there.

  120. John says:

    fuck another warning track shot

  121. Drew says:

    This ump is sooo annoying

  122. Mike D. says:

The Yankees are going to win this game.

  123. Joey H. says:

Nice to see Switzer found a job after that whole prostitution ring thing. Oh wait..

  124. Accent Shallow says:

    So close, Posada.

  125. Hova says:

We will not lose to a Mets lineup missing Reyes and Delgado. No excuses. Yankees have to get it done.

  126. Mike D. says:

Well at least Nova did well today.

  127. Joey H. says:

Do they ever considering putting A-Rod in front of Tex just to get A-Rod going again?

    • Drew says:

I doubt it, when Al is right, he’ll hit/walk no matter who’s behind him. It’s just a matter of time.

    • John says:

and mess with him? Dont worry he’ll be fine. He’s getting on base but not getting the BABIP correction yet.

  128. Drew says:

Is this THE inning? Let’s do this.

  129. Conor says:

This lead is gonna change hands at least a couple more times.

  130. Drew says:

    Isnt matsui due?

  131. Drew says:

The only thing that can cheer me up tonight is a massive load of jizz on my face.

  132. John says:

    Another Crisp RISP opportunity…

  133. BigBlueAL says:

I see Manuel no longer makes the pitcher he is taking out wait on the mound til the new pitcher arrives. That was such a stupid thing he tried to implement last season when he took over.

  134. Oh my Mo! The tying run is on base?! The game isn’t over?! Why didn’t you guys tell me games went nine innings?!?!?

    • The Fallen Phoenix says:

Oops, I thought the Yankees were playing with the “As soon as the Yankees’ starting pitcher is removed from the game, the Yankees automatically forfeit” rule. Sorry about that.

But they must be playing with that rule this season, because I can’t remember a single game the Yankees have won after being behind early…
