Game 62 Spillover Thread

By Joseph Pawlikowski

Pettitte gives up baserunners. Omir Santos looks like Ty Cobb. Fernando Nieve looks like Cy Young. We’re surprised about this because?

TehEighth! says:

It’s ok because Johan pitches tomorrow. 2 runs is all we’ll need with the run support they give him.

Accent Shallow says:

DFA everyone but A-Rod.

Yeah, just straight up release that bum.

Accent Shallow says:

Hey, Castillo swings at what looks like ball 4, and grounds out. Nice.

Jobamania says:

what makes you think Johan is gonna give us 2 runs?

TehEighth! says:

Giving up a couple HR’s and this stadium if we’re lucky.

TehEighth! says:

Oh and Johan gave up a few HR’s the other day so it’s quite possible we’ll get one or two.

Jobamania says:

he’s been pretty shaky recently so we either get shaky johan or shutdown johan. i’m banking on shutdown johan for tmrw

Jobamania says:

Move andy to the DL, groom hughes back into a starter.
Call up melancon

If wang doesn’t produce, make aceves into a starter

Eric says:

Aceves is the man.

Double T says:

I like Mexican Gangster as a nickname much better than Ace. Much more intimidating.

pc69 says:

Joe, you referenced Cy Young. Careful, V will tell you to jump off a bridge with me. But being the good sport he is, he will be there to break our fall. Consummate team player, V.

Jobamania says:

some of these rookies have some serious balls shaking off posada so many times

Eric says:

It’s not really that surprising to me given how many pitchers hate pitching to him.

Eric says:

They are the ones who look bad when they give up runs, not Posada. He should stop being so stubborn and let them pitch what they want to pitch. It’s increasingly starting to seem like he might be one of the problems with this staff.

Manimal says:

Just curious, When will Jorge Vazquez reach the Major leagues? I think he could be like Shelly 2.0. Just for comparison, Aceves had his first appearance last year on August 31st so I will set the over/under there.

Jobamania says:

i think he’s been on the DL since the end of may

Manimal says:

Aceves should definately be a starter. He has a career ERA+ of 180 and a career Whip if 1.1

batboy says:

quick 1 out. amazing.

TehEighth! says:

The Mets are so lucky this game, its not even funny.

Jobamania says:

UPDATE, 6:00 p.m.: One day you’re the set-up man in the eighth inning, the next you’re pitching in the sixth inning with the team down 5-1. No wonder the bullpen is a mess. Go get ‘em, Alfredo Aceves. Jose Veras, it would seem, is completely useless.

Yankees have put a big stamp on this game and mailed it in so far.

UPDATE, 6:08 p.m.: Pettitte has allowed 12+ hits 10 times in his career, twice in the last 26 days.

very very well said by PeteAbe.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

wtf were hittin the shyt out of the ball but we cant find a whole.

Jobamania says:

we couldn’t buy a hit if it was on clearance rack.

batboy says:

Accent Shallow says:

Two solidly hit balls, right at Tatis. Ergh.

At least the HBP to A-Rod results in a baserunner.

Jobamania says:

bad move nieve, time to hit beltran on his knee

batboy says:

agreed. send that f*cker to the DL with his amigos.

Eric says:

Agreed. I’m not big on retaliation, but that crossed the line.

TehEighth! says:

Then Aceves gets a 6 game suspension while Nieve leaves with a small fine if any.

Jobamania says:

no, its fine as long as u dont hit his head or around his head

Dorian says:

We need two runs to have a chance 2 runs down against K-Rod.

BigBlueAL says:

Teams use Arod for target practice.

Hova says:

Starters have been garbage the four of the lat five games. As fickle as this bullpen is, they’ve done their best to limit the damage. Got to give them props.

The starters should be embarrassed not coming through against your biggest division rival and cross-town team.

Eric says:

Scumbag move by Nieve to hit A-Rod right on the elbow. Really bad that a bum journeyman pitcher is going to take a shot injuring one of the best players in baseball.

BigBlueAL says:

How much lower will Cano’s BA have to fall until Girardi moves him from the 5th spot in the order????

Eric says:

Him in the 5th spot is realllllly bad right now. And his avg isn’t even the problem. Until he starts taking walks and getting on base, he’ll never be as valuable as his talent should allow him to be.

BigBlueAL says:

Cano fuckin sucks right now. He will probably be batting cleanup tomorrow.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

come on yanks aa serioussssss we aint doin crap.

TehEighth! says:

Nieves out again for next inning? I hope not I want to see their bullpen.

Jobamania says:

ugh, what a fucking line

1 run 2 hits

MEET THE BRONX BOMBERS NATIONAL AUDIENCE

YankeeScribe says:

E-ROC says:

Are u serious, Cano? That pitch wasn’t close to be a strike at all!

pc69 says:

well, hard hit balls mean nothing, just like out to teh warning track. End of the day, Yanks and their over powering come from behind offense are being 2 hit by another no name.

batboy says:

hey, just bean arod. it’s cano on deck.

IvanS says:

You would think this year the Yankees would have the advantage over the Mets. They’re way hurt, don’t have Yankee killer Oliver Perez available, we have a better lineup and staff than in previous year. But no…Fernando Nieve (who?) gets thrown in and of course they can only muster 2 hits off him because they “don’t know him.”

What is the deal with Yankee scouting? Do they have any? I know that Nieve hasn’t pitched that much in the majors but this happens way too much. Other teams don’t have these problems.

batboy says:

scouts thought kei igawa was good.

pc69 says:

Only Yankee scouts.

at what point does Dave Eiland start to take some blame on the awful bullpen and the inconsistency of the starters? excep CC we can’t get a pitcher into the 7th inning. Pitch counts way too high, not attacking hitters when they get ahead of the count.

Jobamania says:

eiland sucks, and long is fucking terrible as well.

Cano had his best years before Long came to town. We need mattingly back.

and Dave eiland has KILLED our pitching staff

the only reason eiland got the job is b/c of hughes, kennedy, and joba…… b/c he worked so well with them in the minors. that worked out real well last year ( think they won 2 games combined) and you see when he comes and talks to the experienced pitchers on the mound they look like they aren’t even listening to him.

Dorian says:

You can’t say “except C.C” because C.C proves that he is doing something right. I personally think that it’s posada. Every guy on the staff has ridiculous splits with and without Posada. Everyone does better when he isn’t behind the plate.

YankeeScribe says:

I hate to keep bashing Posada but the pitching staff has returned to their April form since Jorge returned from the DL. It’s hard not to notice the difference

IvanS says:

That has been my question all this time. There is NO excuse for not throwing strikes at this level. Every single game this week until today has been a struggle because of people not being able to get it over the plate. What kind of coaching lets this happen?

Accent Shallow says:

Andy Pettitte has been in the majors since 1995. His struggles this year probably have more to do with, oh, say, his bad back rather than Eiland telling him to suck or something.

Accent Shallow says:

I hate Sheff. Worst dude.

Hova says:

Wish we had him right now. He actually knows how to hit a baseball.

batboy says:

these guys can’t get out sheffield and ortiz.

pc69 says:

ahhh fuck this. No come back today. Another starter left in too long when the offense is not producing.

Hova says:

The Mets are playing without Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado and still putting up runs. Impressive. This team will go down to the wire with the Phillies

Jobamania says:

not if they continue getting swept by the pirates

Dorian says:

Could yall people calm the freak down.

Jobamania says:

One can only hope Mattingly returns to coach this sorry team. Kevin long has fucking butchered robbie cano

Dorian says:

How in the world can you say that? After a subpar season last year Kev Long went down to the dominican and changed Robby’s stance and he came out of the gate like a house on fire, was he butchering him then?

Jobamania says:

how do you know long did shit? He didn’t need any stance changing from 05-07 when he produced dominant seasons.

TehEighth! says:

Because of the numerous articles of Kevin Long trying to help Cano.
Cano is better this year than last year so I’ll take it.

Jobamania says:

doesn’t change the fact that cano produced from 05 to 07.

Kevin Long comes to town and cano becomes to shit? Not a coincidence

Accent Shallow says:

How do you know?

You can’t offer up a statement like this without backing it up. For example, an article from ST ‘08 about Long tinkering with Cano’s stance.

Dorian says:

Because you saw a physical change in his stance. And he is on pace to walk more this year than any year in his career. Maybe that’s why I think he has done something.

Remember Robby used to have first halves way worst than this under Mattingly. Sit back, Relax and make your judgement at the end of the season.

Jobamania says:

ooooh wow, walk. doesn’t matter when he was hitting .342

Dorian says:

Who is to say that he won’t hit .330? He is a notoriously slow starter and he is just as notorious for getting really hot after the break.

Accent Shallow says:

And who says that hitting .342 is sustainable or his true talent level? He only played ~120 games that season.

And yeah, walking doesn’t matter when you hit .342. But it means a whole hell of a lot when you’re hitting .300. Or .270, like last year.

Dorian says:

It seems that the frustration of this game has led him to make irrational generalized statements.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Jobamania says:

Meanwhile contreras is in the 8th inning throwing a 1 hitter against the Brewers.

lol.

Quikksand says:

I am DONE with this game.

jonathan says:

FYI Veras is starting to warm up so yeah, joe is throwing the towel in on this game

pc69 says:

Wow in game summary only has the Yankee logo, no Yankee doing anything. Nice.

jonathan says:

Why cant we hit against people we should be lighting up? If we havent seen guys we a completely limp WTF!!

pc69 says:

poor preparation and trying too hard to hit the long ball. Batting coach and scouts should have info but apparently they do not.

kaka says:

trade pettitte for nieve

Accent Shallow says:

Hopefully they’ve seen enough of Nieve to get to him.

cookie monster says:

pc69 says:

offense sucks today. I would get tired of trying to dig out of 3 and 4 run deficits.

jonathan says:

Amen, its gotta be exausting….it like oh look another 3 spot on the board in the 2nd awesome

Accent Shallow says:

Not bad. Now can Gardner do something positive?

If so, we get top of the order, and probably the Mets’ pen. :)

27 this year says:

Gardner’s 1 for 2 probably going to be 1 for 3. Honestly, this isn’t his fault.

don’t worry the nats are coming to town and Wang is pitching against them and he probably will pitch good and everyone will say he’s back only to be dissapointed the next time he pitches after that…. poor hughes – we are wasting his talent away ( i know he is only 22 – but his psyche has to be shot)

batboy says:

Yep, I heard Eiland say wang has been haivng “good bullpen sessions!” sounds promising!

pc69 says:

The way the Yankees have looked the last 5 games, Nats could give them a run.

cookie monster says:

hopefully eiland gets run over by a truck soon.

27 this year says:

why do you wish him dead? Fired, ok but wanting injury on someone is just plain wrong.

I agree I don’t want him hurt , I just want him out of his yankee uniform.

Jobamania says:

pathetic when gardner has the most hits in this game for us.

27 this year says:

27 this year says:

come on Jeter, hit in the clutch.

Jobamania says:

clutch dribbler to a middle infielder

TehEighth! says:

Sean Green sucks so looks like we’ll be scoring some runs here. Lets go Captian Clutch!

Accent Shallow says:

And they finally get into the Mets’ pen! Yay!

Aaron Boone says:

Really could use a big hit from jeter here, at least lift the spirits we’re dead here

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

safeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Jobamania says:

wow jeter gets incredibly lucky once again.

TehEighth! says:

What a great fan you are.

Jobamania says:

was it not a weak grounder? sorry i’m a realist.

TehEighth! says:

I’m gald you’re happy we actually scored a run. But no let’s all be pessimists.

Accent Shallow says:

I thought they had him there. Whew.

batboy says:

awesome job damon.

pc69 says:

Well, that is the game. Hope Philly wins tonight so we don’t fall 3 back. Offense got used today by a rookie.

Aaron Boone says:

at least we got 1, we have to do something next inning though with Tex, Arod, and Posada, and before we get to Krod

I’d say if we go down without 2 runs next inning, we’re probably done

u forgot about Cano , but that is understandable with the past three weeks!

Aaron Boone says:

True, Girardi really needs to flip them back I think

pc69 says:

Not today. Yanks are already thinking about tomorrow’s bitch again Johan and praying Burnnet doesn’t channel his past start along with Pettitte’s last three.

don’t worry we will all find out what the yankees need to do on Monday at 1 o’clock when Mike francesca will inform us. funny how he knows everything but has never been offered a GM or coach’s job

TehEighth! says:

We don’t even need to hear Mike Francesa. There’s plenty of computer GM’s right here.

John says:

damn another hard hit ball so unlucky

Pete says:

Hey, Veras! You got your wish!!

IvanS says:

Veras…we’re doing like the French in WWII.

mick says:

Except the Germans aren”t breeding our wives…….DFA his useless ass now!

E-ROC says:

Pujols 2 Indians 1

Quikksand says:

They are just putting gas on a fire by putting Veras in.

veras fan says:

VERAS IS LOOKING GREAT

pc69 says:

Thats because their is nothing to lose.

veras is awesome!!! Dave eiland says he has great stuff

pc69 says:

Well that seals it. Eiland has been right with so many of the pitchers.

veras fan says:

veras is hot stuff.

broken clock says:

Hey, Look!

I’m telling the right time!

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

cano is starting his old ways. you know when he only plays in 4 out of every 6 games, the other two he is just there in presence

Routine ground ball. You gotta turn that Cano, know the game runner.

veras fan says:

LOL now everything is going wrong.

veras fan says:

LOL now everything is going wrong.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

pc69 says:

And THAT is your NY Yankees over the last 5 games.

Accent Shallow says:

Ugh. Let’s see if Veras can pick him up.

IvanS says:

I’ll be surprised if he does. Veras is the type to fall apart now.

Jackson says:

If you the Yankees pull off a miracle and come back to win this game 7-6 you can thank Luis Castillo again for doing the complete opposite of what Mark Teixeira yesterday, if he hustles he scores on that play.

veras fan says:

veras did awesome!

Dorian says:

THE RAB PLAN FOR THE YANKEES

1) Fire the whole coaching staff
2) Trade the farm system for Huston Street
3) Fire Brian Cashman
4) Release A.J. Burnett
5) Force Andy Pettite to retire

Any more suggestions kimosabe

Accent Shallow says:

DFA all the pitchers not named “Rivera” or “Sabathia”

IvanS says:

1. Fire Eiland.
2. Put Hughes in rotation.
3. Let Wang have his one start to see what to do with him. Long relief if he sucks.
4. Lineup should be Posada, Matsui, Cano, etc. 5th on…
5. Bullpen: Tomko out, Melancon in..

Andy Stankiewicz says:

The RAB plan is a solid one except for #2. I would like to see Street here but not for the entire farm system. Otherwise its a solid plan.

TehEighth! says:

Veras – walks = good

Eric says:

Drew says:

Just got in front of the comp. Caught some of the game earlier. AP really layed an egg today.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Da only one doin crap today is arod.

Dorian says:

I beg to differ. I think everyone is doin crap today.

27 this year says:

arod has a home run, walk, and HBP to go along with a strikeout. He is far from the problem of today. Today’s problem is Pettite and the offense outside of Arod, Gardner and maybe Jeter (although infield hits are not exactly the greatest)

cookie monster says:

santana is going to toy with these guys tomorrow.

Accent Shallow says:

That’s the great thing about baseball — that’s not necessarily the case.

The Grinch says:

PLEASE STOP BATTING CANO FIFTH!!!

Jobamania says:

good lord, this is just sad

jonathan says:

over under on how many inning(s) we get outta aj tomorrow?

cookie monster says:

with eiland still the pitching coach, over/under set at 4 2/3 innings with over under in pitches set at 115

If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume this was the getaway game at the end of a 15 game road trip. The Yanks mailed this one right in.

Bob Stone says:

It sure looks that way. Their level of play today was discouraging and almost unwatchable. You’d think they would be pysched to capitalize on their incredible good fortune last night. Instead it looks like they expect another miracle to bail them out of this game instead of playing well.

Accent Shallow says:

For all the tears in this thread, you’d think the Yankees were in last place. Christ.

YankeeScribe says:

They’re playing like a last place team and getting owned by journeymen pitchers

IvanS says:

When have the Yankee come off a series with Boston and not shit the bed for the next week? I’m not just talking after a bad series. Anytime. They always come off a series with Boston flat, especially offensively.

I mind the losing the losing as much if they played with a little heart and some fight. they look so flat. if santana pitches tomorrow like “johan” should, 1 and 5 against the mets and sox is not good.

Drew says:

Did Pettitte look as bad as his line?

fhgfhf55fffg@aol.com says:

how could it not?

Bob Stone says:

Simplest Answer – Yes

Eric says:

No, he wasn’t nearly as bad as his line. Many of the Mets hits were very cheap. He only walked one batter and only gave up one HR. It could have very easily been 6IP, 3ER today.

John says:

Well they had a lot of hard hit balls that were caught also

Jobamania says:

even worse than his line

Joey H. says:

I say Santana gets torched tomorrow.

veras fan says:

VERAS LOOKS GREAT! DFA TOMKO

mick says:

Tomko is a waste of a roster spot….We need a trad for some BP now!!!

mick says:

Sorry “trade not trad” …….my bad!

Eric says:

Who the F is pitching right now? That’s not the Jose Veras I know.

of course it isn’t the Veras you know becaus ethey are down 4 runs , if they were up by 2 runs his line would look like this

0.1 IP , 1H, 2BB, 2ER

Eric says:

Cano’s awful game continues.

John says:

damn what a waste of a good veras

watching andy pitch is NOT good for our collective hearts

Aaron Boone says:

no pressure on veras so he decided to throw some strikes

Vera pitched just well enough to keep his job.

mick says:

Hopefully the front office will dfa Tomko, bring up Melancon
and get pitching from Veras like last summer.

Joey H. says:

Why was Veras throwing strikes?

b/c they are down 4 runs and probably didn’t listen to Dave Eiland

jonathan says:

5 runs off k rod?

Joey H. says:

Ok why is K-Rod going in there? Manuel is HORRIBLE.

Dorian says:

Thank God some of yall aren’t on the team. MASTERS OF THE PANIC

Dorian , I am not panicing. just calling a spade a spade.

Bob Stone says:

BoSox have scored three runs already against the Phils – Not good

Bob Stone says:

And still threatening in the top of the first

Eric says:

Boston up 3-0 in the first, sigh.

Jobamania says:

what the fuck is with these late swings?

Riddering says:

If I’m taking one positive thing out of this game it’s that the Mets apparently fear us enough to call a four-run lead in this offensively pathetic game a “save” situation.

Drew says:

They need a win. They went with there best pitcher.

Riddering says:

Hey, don’t take away my one delusional shard of happiness!

Jobamania says:

yeah they need a win and went to their closer, it was a very smart move.

Girardi on the other hand likes to go to aceves with 2 on no outs in the 8th inning with a 1 run lead against a team we were 0-7.

Accent Shallow says:

K-Rod has a fat face and I hope his elbow explodes.

Dorian says:

WAWAWAWAAWAWAWAAAWAWA We lost

Accent Shallow says:

What a depressing game.

Hopefully Burnett has it in him to play stopper.

Drew says:

Damn, 17 hits is really pathetic.

IvanS says:

This was one of the most embarrassing losses i can remember. Three games out after tonight.

Bob Stone says:

BoSox up 5-0 in the first – Damn!

IvanS says:

three errors for philadelphia. What is it with teams playing like little leaguers (including us) against Boston but playing out of their skulls against us?

kill dorian says:

3 games out after tonight.

RAB poster says:

Is anyone really surprised?

I’m not even disappointed. Knew this would happen.

Dorian says:

I’m disappointed in RAB right now. Yall sound really soft right now
