  1. dkidd says:

    i’m addicted to coke

  2. Charlie says:

I say that we skip Petitte’s next start and let phil start in his place. He’s just too good to be in the bullpen and petitte has looked like he could use a start off.

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

You’d have to square that with Petite, but I’d support it

    • For Petitte:

      Skipping 1 start = Losing a lot of $$$

      • Charlie says:

yea i know, but he’s got plenty of fucking money. he should care more about the team

        • cgs says:

A competitor’s mentality would think that they can help the team themselves, not let someone else do it. It’s not about the money.

          • Mike Axisa says:

You must be new to this. It’s ALWAYS about the money.

            • cgs says:

I’m not new to this. And it is NOT always about the money.

              • Mike Axisa says:

You’re right, it’s not. That’s why Pettitte held out all winter, because it was for the good of the team.

                • cgs says:

I never said it’s not about the money, I said it’s not ALL about the money. Obviously contract negotiations are about the money, it would take a true idiot not to get that.

I was stating, that in this hypothetical situation where the yanks ask Pettitte to miss his next start for Hughes, his decision of no would be more of a competitive decision than a monetary situation. Sure one missed start would mean he loses around 500g, but I’m sure what would be on Pettitte’s mind would be that he is capable of pitching well and getting the win.

        • Hova says:

Its always about the money. And nothing else.

  3. Dave says:

Wait, why didn’t Hughes pitch the 8th there? I thought we wanted to keep him stretched out a little?

  4. Why are you swinging at the first pitch there, Hideki?

  5. whozat says:

Is there all sorts of late movement on that or what? That was an 88 MPH fastball right down the middle.

  6. Tim says:

I’m getting sick of this “The Yankees can’t hit anybody they haven’t seen before so teams should just bring up AAA pitchers instead of throwing Beckett and Halladay blah blah blah.”

It’s just typical selective memory by ignorant fans who have quickly forgotten the Rick Porcellos and Derek Hollands that the Yankees roughed up. Instead, they just look at Nieve, Martis, and Lannan and make stupid claims. And just because you haven’t heard of somebody or they’re on a bad team doesn’t mean they’re a bad pitcher. Such a joke.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

      +100

    • angry kid says:

okay but a 2 hitter? are you kidding?

    • whozat says:

That’s not entirely fair. No one has rigorously shown it to be either. It’s certainly been a sense that has built up over the last several years. It’s also not just fans…the announcers say it all the time as well. And yes, I know that not everything they say is gospel.

Also, Lannan is different than some of these other guys in that he’s actually a decent pitcher. But…it certainly feels like good control guys with middling stuff that haven’t been seen by the Yanks dominate them more than they should. I’d like to figure out how to prove or disprove this, but I got nothin’

      • Pasqua says:

They gave the stat last night that the Yanks are 18-3 against “rookie” pitchers since ’07, which certainly doesn’t help with the middling stuff argument, but tells you that not many newbies (i.e. those who the Yanks “haven’t seen”) mow them down. A lot of this frustration is selective memory.

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

Not totally disagreeing, but didn’t you just use selective memory (Porcello and Holland) and not actual stats to back up your claim?

    • YankeeScribe says:

Nieve and now Lannan are “OK” pitchers who are looking like aces against the Yankees. It’s annoying how often those types of pitchers shut us down…

  7. pat says:

The yankees will bring a batter to the plate this inning, lock it up.

  8. Charlie says:

this guy is just layin em in there now… hit the baseball somebody

  9. dkidd says:

he’s working lieber fast. try stepping out

  10. Benefit? That ball came right back over the plate.

  11. angry kid says:

    I thought the nationals sucks?

  12. Charlie says:

Wow, don’t even make him work or anything. And don’t even think about scoring a run.

  13. Accent Shallow says:

Hopefully the top of the order can manage something in the bottom of the 9th. Sheesh.

  14. kunaldo says:

this is making my head hurt…Soft Tossing Lefty strikes again!

  15. joe says:

    yanks cant hit goshhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Manimal says:

must win this game with the sox winning 5-1

  17. JobaWockeeZ says:

Please take Lannan out for the 9th.

  18. Charlie says:

why is coke still out there after 20+ pitches?

  19. There is absolutely NO point to this move.

    • Alex says:

Disagree. I think it makes complete sense. It’s 3-1, the yanks can score 2 runs in an inning, its clearly happened before. Secondly, one of Girardi’s best skills as a manager is limiting relievers’ innings while still keeping guys (like Aceves) fresh. No sense in stretching out coke against 2 more right-handed batters while you have a fresh Aceves who could use work (hasn’t pitched since saturday i believe)

  20. Dorian says:

I have supported Joe and his propensity to play the numbers but sometimes he overthinks things. If guys are doing a good job then let them pitch.

  21. Ivan says:

At least the yanks have the top of the order coming up in the bot of the 9th.

    • Joe Robbins says:

That’s the good news (top of the order coming up). The bad news is that the Yankees can’t hit tonight. And, re. Lannan, you can’t be patient when the guy is throwing strikes. But you could hit them.

  22. Dorian says:

Glove save and a beauty by Tex

  23. Two runs ain’t shit. Let’s go, Yanks!

  24. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Damon!!!

  25. JackISBACK says:

I’m calling it right now, Matsui with a game winner.

  26. Manimal says:

    1 more!!!!!!!!!!

  27. pat says:

The only good thing about this stadium is we ALWAYS get last licks.

  28. alan says:

Damn, A-Rod’s gonna get his chance again!

  29. Joe Robbins says:

Well, Damon hit a strike. Thanks.

  30. Drew says:

    THATS MY SHIT SON!!!!!

  31. Mike Axisa says:

That was a New Stadium job if I ever saw one.

  32. Dorian says:

    ATTA FUCKIN BOY JOHNNY

  33. Just missed it; damn.

  34. Accent Shallow says:

Glad to see Damon didn’t let this guy lull him to sleep. Wonder if Acta will risk pulling him?

  35. Charlie says:

FUCK YES!!! I love Johnny D. We need another, let’s go

  36. Manimal says:

tex double, arod homerun. I’m calling it.

  37. dkidd says:

    come on tex

  38. cjc says:

    god I hate kay

  39. JackISBACK says:

Is it just me, or did Swisher use up all of his clutch hits early in the year?

  40. Drew says:

    i LOVE THIS FUCKING TEAM.

  41. claybeez says:

    A-Rod, Man of the Match?

  42. dkidd says:

    come on alex

  43. alan says:

    A-Rod better not hit into a DP…

  44. Jamal G. says:

    Let’s go ARod!!!!!

  45. Arman Tamzarian says:

Mark Texiera’s batting stance resembles one of the guys from Mike Tyson’s punch out. I can’t figure out which one though.

  46. Ivan says:

    Lets go A-Rod.

  47. cjc says:

shut up shut up shut up Kay

  48. Charlie says:

Way to get on, tex. By the way, anyone notice tex never goes the opposite field.

  49. Nickel says:

    A-Rod’ll hit a walk-off right here.

  50. Drew says:

Bring em out Bring em out!

  51. Dorian says:

YES YES YES. MACDOUGAL IS GONNA WALK EM.

  52. Tom Zig says:

Come on A-rod, this is a perfect time to shut up the boo-birds

  53. JackISBACK says:

Ok, Be A-Rod here. McDougal can’t throw strikes, but he may want to get ahead of A-Rod. Do you or do you not swing at the first pitch? Assume A-Rod is a guess hitter, not that he sees if its close and swings. Just a hypothetical.

  54. I really don’t get why this is a tough decision. MacDougal throws real hard and gives the Nats a platoon advantage, no? The tying run is on base and the go ahead run is at the plate and the pitcher just gave up a homer and a hard hit single. Why would you risk keeping him in?

  55. Bleakley says:

Anyone think Gardner should be in the game here to make sure the game is at least tied on a double?

  56. Ivan says:

This might be a tough match up for A-Rod.

McDougal has a tremendous FB, with great movement and velocity.

  57. Accent Shallow says:

    Hey, it’s Mac the Ninth!

    A-Rod, please don’t get booed.

(That would require doing something positive)

  58. Charlie says:

shit, wish they left lannan in. this guy has a real good arm

  59. Dorian says:

ATTA BOY GIRARDI. LETS GO GARDY

  60. pat says:

    time to get dirty.

  61. Let’s go, Alex. Shut the moronic boo birds up.

  62. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Arod has good numbers against mcdougal 2-5 wit a hr.

  63. pat says:

    I think he beans arod

  64. Ivan says:

Gardy, gotta get a steal here.

  65. The Artist says:

    Sterling keeps calling Gardner ‘Teixeira’.

  66. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    safeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  67. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Good job Gardner.

  68. JeffG says:

    Safe!

  69. alan says:

    SHIT! He’s fast!

  70. The Artist says:

    *whew*

    on a pitchout, no less.

  71. Ivan says:

    YES GARDNER!!!

  72. Drew says:

See why you run Brett? You’re faster than a motherfucker.

  73. dkidd says:

    great call

  74. Nick L says:

so that guy is pretty fast

  75. Charlie says:

YEA GARNER!! Come on Arod, please

  76. WOW. Way to go, Brett.

  77. dkidd says:

    small ball

  78. Drew says:

    Wow. Just Wow

  79. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    another steallllllllllllll i love gardner.

  80. claybeez says:

    That is EXCITING!

  81. JobaWockeeZ says:

Steal home Gardner while you’re at it.

  82. alan says:

    Gardner’s the Man!!!

  83. JeffG says:

    Awesome!

  84. Bleakley says:

    Wow

  85. pc69 says:

That Gardner kid got some skilz on the base path.

  86. Ivan says:

    Gardner is one fast motherfucker!!!

  87. Jersey says:

This is just plain fun to watch. Wow.

  88. Nick L says:

    thats a quick man

  89. Dorian says:

    ATTA BOY GARDY

  90. Charlie says:

holy fucking shit gardner!!! Now we gotta at least tie it

  91. pc69 says:

    Odd ARod strikes out here.

  92. This would be a nice time to break that mini slump he’s in.

  93. Jersey says:

    Just make contact, dude.

  94. JackISBACK says:

    Please A-Rod, Please

  95. cjc says:

    ugh that was right there

  96. Drew says:

C’mon Al, let the game come to you.

  97. Ivan says:

The Cheers are gonne be either very loud, or very loud with boo’s

  98. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Arod’s like Gardy’s the hero, I’m the zero…WTF?
    Gardy: let’s switch paychecks!

  99. Tim says:

BUT WHY DIDN’T GIRARDI BUNT GARDNER TO 2ND WITH A-ROD? Maybe he’s finally learning.

  100. Dorian says:

    PLEASE DON’T WALK HIM NOW.

  101. Charlie says:

    payoff…..

  102. V says:

Man, Flaherty’s so obvious, lol. “No, he shouldn’t go”. “Oh, if Bard handles it, he’s out.”

Nah, Flaherty, looks like he would have been safe even with a good throw.

  103. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    walkk

  104. Dorian says:

    FUUUUUCCCCKKKK

  105. cjc says:

    no he did not bitches

  106. Drew says:

That’s how he do that shit son!!!!

  107. Mike Axisa says:

Shit, now the DP is in order.

  108. Nick L says:

if he was called out, Arod would have been put to tears by the crowd

  109. Charlie says:

dammit, you pussy. Robbie, please make him pay.

  110. JackISBACK says:

Man that looked close, but thank god he didn’t swing. I couldn’t imagine the boos if he was called out.

  111. cjc says:

fly ball just a fly ball

  112. Ivan says:

    No DP’s Cano.

  113. alan says:

Come on Cano, the KO punch!

  114. pc69 says:

    First pitch Robbie… DP?

  115. Accent Shallow says:

Now the DP is back in order. Ugh.

    Come on, Robbie.

  116. Charlie says:

    i’m worried here

  117. Fly to deep right is all we need.

  118. V says:

You’re gonna have to send ARod with Cano up. He hits lots of groundballs.

  119. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    come on cano base hit.

  120. Why not PR for A-Rod?

  121. JackISBACK says:

    Please Robinson, Please.

  122. Dorian says:

dID YA HEAR THAT PEOPLE .423 IN THE NINTH

  123. Charlie says:

god cano, what the fuck is he swinging at

  124. Nick L says:

if arod steals, and the throw goes to second, gardy could score without question

  125. adeel says:

    hit on next pitch

  126. Charlie says:

    come on cano…. please..

  127. pc69 says:

    MacDougal is the Nationals Farnsworth.

  128. V says:

If I’m Girardi, I start ARod. Cano doesn’t K much.

  129. Dorian says:

Would they boo A-Rod if Robby doubles and he got thrown out at the plate?

  130. Charlie says:

good at bat, win the fuckin battle

  131. cjc says:

boy this has strike out in the dirt written all over it please prove me wrong

  132. Ivan says:

Cano is really missing on some good FB’s

  133. Charlie says:

    here comes off speed

  134. alan says:

    Wow, Cano hanging in there.

  135. dkidd says:

    waiting for the curve…

  136. Nice AB for Cano. Regardless of outcome.

  137. Charlie says:

holy shit hit it in play already

  138. Wow. That was shitty.

  139. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  140. Nick L says:

what could have been done to prevent that?

  141. Ivan says:

    Deflating…..really deflating.

  142. V says:

HEY, GUESS WHAT GIRARDI, YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT.

Man, it doesn’t take a fucking genius to see that Cano hits a LOT of groundballs.

God damn it, what I wouldn’t give for a manager who’s not a fucking imbecile.

  143. vbkj says:

    fucking sucks choke

  144. Charlie says:

Goddammit MOTHER FUCKER GET A CLUTCH HIT CANO!! JUST A FUCKING FLYOUT WOULD BE FINE!!!!!!!!11

  145. pc69 says:

    CHOKE!!!!!!!!

Couldn’t even get the tying run in. RISP = Yankee Krytonite.

  146. Drew says:

    Ugh, fuckin fuck.

  147. Matty Ice says:

Can’t believe we lost to the effin’ Nats.

  148. The Artist says:

The Robbie Cano Show just got canceled.

  149. vbkj says:

guy should not be batting 5th period.

  150. Accent Shallow says:

    Ugh.

  151. I bet someone blames A-Rod for not going into second hard enough.

  152. JobaWockeeZ says:

A-Rod should have ran. Twice this shit happened.

  153. mark q says:

I really don’t understand why They didn’t just send A-Rod early. Wouldn’t he have just reached- they aren’t going to throw to 2nd and let Gardner score are they? Maybe I’m missing something.

  154. pc69 says:

Yankees are the Nationals 17th win. Congrats boys. Rush back in and dig into that bag of lame excuses cuz you got OWNED tonight.

  155. Tim says:

This should be good- Ignorant fans will now blast Cano the day after he went 4/4 and carried the team. He also hit a home run tonight, but that don’t mean anything to these guys.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Not at all. A-Rod should have ran so I don’t know why Girardi didn’t send him or if A-Rod just didn’t go.

    • Brazilian Yankee says:

People are blaming Girardi, and rightfully so, for not sending A-Rod… Cano had a great AB, sometimes it doesnt work out.

  156. dkidd says:

robbie had no choice. he promised a classroom of second graders he’d break their hearts

  157. alan says:

Poor Gardner, ran his butt out.

  158. angry kid says:

thats what happens when the team sleepwalks for 8 innings

  159. Charlie says:

any reasonably smart hitter might actually be ready for the fastball away and drive it to left center. HE THREW NINE OF THEM IN A ROW!!! YOU KNOW WHATS COMING!! SO HIT THE FUCKING BALL HARD!

    • Dorian says:

That’s what he was trying to do, he just didn’t get under.

    • Drew says:

lol… you did see the AB, right? You do know that his out was recorded on the left center part of the infield, right? You did watch this game, right? You did know he hit it hard, right?

  160. GRGOYLDEF@ says:

Should have been a tie game on Damon’s homer. Bad call at first by the ump on the Guzman play cost the Yanks the game.

  161. YankeeScribe says:

    Reason #1,000 and 1,001 why Cano shouldn’t bat 5th

  162. Pasqua says:

Can we be emotional and reactionary now? Is it allowed?

  163. Dorian says:

GOD DAMMIT KRUK. PHIL HUGHES IS A FUCKING STARTER YOU FAT FUCKING SLOB. AND NO THIS CHEIN MING WANG DOES NOT HELP THE YANKEES MORE THAN HUGHES. DAMMIT ALREADY B-HUGHSERS

  164. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Why didn’t ARod get the steal sign?
They really like making fools of themselves at least once a week.

    • Pasqua says:

I’m thinking A-Rod gets 2nd without a throw, as crazy as it sounds. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Gardner goes home on a throw to 2nd.

  165. Drew says:

Tough one… Situational hitting is not our strong suit.
Second guess time, PH Jetes for Swish, or no way?

  166. angry kid says:

this loss is on girardi. go back to the marlins, loser.

  167. pc69 says:

Once again, your beloved Yankees playing to the level of their competition. You don’t see that from Boston, which is why we are now 3 games back and 0-7 against them.

  168. pat says:

hahaha everybody hates cano now, what a fucking joke

    • Drew says:

      I know right? Unbelievable.

    • Brazilian Yankee says:

Blaming Cano for that AB is pretty stupid. The pitch he hit into a DP was a very good pitch, running away from him and sinking. Most hitters can’t even make contact on that pitch.

The blame should definately go to Girardi for not sending Alex, that was a stupid decision.

      • VO says:

+1 Watching the replay of that pitch, I honestly did not see much more that Cano could do with it.

        • hawkins44 says:

Finally, some sanity…Macdougal sucks, but he was throwing moving heat…. tough AB for Robbie… a well pitched game by the Nats…

  169. jonathan says:

WOW just got completely shut down by the Nats pitching….and lost honorable mention to Johnny Damon and to the pitching staff as a whole. Wanger…looking better…..rest of the offense, horrible….Swish do something….Arod come on…..Jorge awwww come on man….sone in by another soft throwing left maybe we should get Al Leiter to throw BP

  170. Hova says:

Damn. Runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out and couldn’t bring a run in (even worse cause we had the fastest guy on our team on 3rd). That’s a tough way to lose. Now 3 back from the Red Sox. Fcuk.

  171. JGS says:

That’s the second time I can readily remember where a blown call at first base cost the Yankees a W (the other one was that game in Cleveland where Jeter was incorrectly called out at first two batters before Tex homered. The Yankees ultimately lost the game by 1)

  172. VO says:

I know it’s a risky choice because of the hip surgery etc. But I really thought A-Rod should have stolen second there. That would have possibly resulted in tying the game with that ground out.

  173. alan says:

Less than 2 outs, runner on 3rd, still our killer…

  174. Dave says:

Weird, I guess you can’t come back to win every game you allow to get to the 9th down by a few runs.

  175. SF Yanks says:

By far the most irritating loss of the year…at least for me

    • Hova says:

The 8 to the Red Sux were more irritating. But I’m completely irrational when it comes to Yanks and Sux.

      • SF Yanks says:

Well, I’m just talking about one game in particular, not a series of them. And I’m basing this off of how mad I get. When the channel changer gets thrown, I’m mad. I haven’t thrown anything all season, but tonight was the first time I launched it. You should see my walls…holes, dings, and dents everywhere. But I’m learning to tone it down a notch, but damn if it doesn’t help make me feel better.

    • cjc says:

thurs in boston out ways this one

  176. baseball says:

consistent effort please, not just in the 8th and 9th.

    • Zach says:

yeah, dont give credit to the pitcher who pitched a hell of a game for 8 innings, this offense needs to score 6 runs everygame or they arent doing their job

      • baseball says:

i’m not seeing any improvement in wang’s performance. sinkers still flying all over the place. i’m not sure what’s wrong with him but i dont think we’ll ever see the same wang again.

        RIP chien ming wang’s career

        • VO says:

Yea because every pitcher who gives up 3 runs in a game should retire. I mean just look at CC’s performance yesterday.

  177. Zach says:

Kruk said leave Wang in rotation because the Yankees KNOW they’re a better team with Hughes in the bullpen. Yeah Hughes in the 4th-7th backing up Wang is really the glue to this bullpen

  178. Dorian says:

Essentially the same outing from Wang as the Texas outing.

    • JGS says:

he was better than that–if Pena can hold on to the ball and the first base umpire can do his job, then he only would have given up the Dunn bomb

      • Jake H says:

Also Melky shouldn’t have left his feet. If he doesn’t then only 1 run scores.

        • Zach says:

Stop blaming Melky- did you watch the flight of the ball? That ball was cutting left the whole way, it would have gone past him either way

          • hawkins44 says:

Disagree… he plays that conservatively and he saves a run… tough play and I agree he may have thought he had a better read than he did because of the spin, but against the Nats, play it safe because they are not going to string together a long rally. Futhermore, Guzman doesn’t score on Zimmerman’s ground out to AROD… bad “D” and it ended up costing the Yanks the game.

        • Arman Tamzarian says:

5 innings pitched, 6 hits, 4 k’s, and 3 runs, i’ll take it for the time being

  179. Drew says:

Thank Mo it’s a quick turn around. I’m ready for some Jobanation tomorrow afternoon.

  180. Nick says:

Fuck Cano. He’s such a goddamn idiot.

Give him a DL stint. 60 days might not even be enough. He needs to learn how to take a ball like the greenest of low A ballers know. He’s cost the team too many leads and wins with his Soriano-esque hacking.

And for that matter, it’s humiliating that we’re not cruising. I didn’t expect a win tonight with Wang pitching, but tonight was 100x more humiliating than I expected it to be, on top of Tuesday’s embarrassment. I fully expect the Red Sox to maul the Nationals, maybe with a perfect game or a no hitter in there.

  181. Drew says:

Writing out my Graduation thank you letters. They went from not great, to fucking happy in the 9th, then back to not so great.

  182. Dorian says:

Wow, how the mighty have fallen. Wang just went 5 innings, gave up 3, and this is a step in the right direction. If Phil did this, we would be disappointed.

  183. Lanny says:

This loss is an embarrassment. I’m sure the homers here will “tip their caps” to Lannan but that’s a joke. Every Wang start is now a spring training game.

Let’s name a bridge after him for 3 runs in 5 innings tonight. I guess he did “good” because it was more than 2 innings.

  184. Ant says:

I’m just going to say wow.

It’s one loss people, chill outttttttttt, have a beer or something.

  185. Moshe Mandel says:

Send A-Rod there? Really? On a 2-2 count and A-Rod on first, that is an awful risk. If its a ball, there is a good chance Alex is dead at second. You dont take such a high risk to avoid a double play, because the odds of a douyble play are lower than Alex’s likely chance of being caught stealing. Anyhow, they likely would have turned two anyhow. That ball was hit hard and directly at the SS.

    • pat says:

Alex is dead at 2nd as gardy is crossing home plate.

      • VO says:

Exactly what I was thinking, if A-Rod goes in with a good slide especially.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

I love that assumption. A double steal is not an easy play to execute. With a guy like Gardner at third, genreally the pitcher is ready to intercept the ball to get the guy coming home.

        • Drew says:

You also love the assumption that the throw is good and Al is “dead at second.”

          • Moshe Mandel says:

I said giood chance. You disagree that there is, say, a 35 % chance that he thropwn out?

            • Drew says:

Tough to say for sure. First off though, No way they tag Al and throw home to get Grit. It’s one or the other. 35% is fair, but there is so many other variables, throw, catch, tag, grittner, Al’s jump, Al’s slide.

    • Not to mention Alex probably ain’t runnin’ at full speed right now.

    • Drew says:

Right, so all these people wanted him to go on 2-2, not 0-0, 0-1, 0-2,1-2,2-2. I’m indifferent, it was a frustrating loss and there’s no saying that sending Al would’ve won the game. That doesn’t mean you can act like these people’s opinions are incorrect, TBH, who says they even throw to second with Grit on third.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

Huh? Any couint but 3-2 makes it a bad risk. I never said peop-le were wrong. I just said that if you weigh the cost and benefit, it is not the best move. And I addressed the other point about throwing through above.

        • Drew says:

Eh, bad risk in your opinion, with grit on third and Bard catching, I’m willing to say it could go either way. Like I said, I’m indifferent, but neither one way or the other was the right/wrong move.

          • Moshe Mandel says:

That’s fair. So why can’t I find it crazy that people are asking that Joe be sent to an island over the move?

  186. e mills says:

well they’re def. not getting the game in tomorrow. So much for a quick turnaround

  187. Tom Zig says:

    Positives to take away:

Wang shows improvement against a pretty good offense

I now have confidence in the bullpen (minus Tomko)

Cano worked an 8 pitch at-bat (is that a career high?)

  188. baseball says:

if the nationals somehow take 2/3 from yankees then this team officially becomes a joke. cross your fingers and say your prayers tonight.

    • Tom Zig says:

I mean I get down on the team, but seriously, this is too much.

      Lannan was dealing today

      • baseball says:

Yeah, I would love a rotation with those three: Lannan, Nieve, and Martes.

      • Psh, excuses.

        /mock outrage.

Let’s actually give some credit to the damn pitcher. Believe it or not, guys can pitch well against the Yankees. It’s not an “excuse.”

      • e mills says:

I disagree. The Yankee hitters allowed Lannan to work at his own pace. Anyone watching the game live saw that this guy was on the mound ready to throw etc etc when the hitter stepped in the box. Not often, maybe not at all, did I see a batter step out and try to break his rhythm. Too many early swings and GBs etc etc…they beat themselves (Girardi didn’t help either, they should come up with a hip flexor injury for him too, so he can go hang out with Valentine in the east somewhere and learn to manage)

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

Whenever I see irrational comments like this, I sit back and thank the good lord that I’ve got my sanity. Also, what’s the difference between an official and an unofficial joke? Just for the record keeping.

    • Drew says:

Why are you here? You obviously don’t like the Yankees.
We will win, the game starts in about 15 hours. Another series won, another good showing.

    • Zach says:

how about if Yankees take 2/3 we never have to see you post here again?

  189. hawkins44 says:

Boys, tonight’s thread is reading like a Red Sox Blog…. every one needs a glass of wine. Don’t punch your girlfriend/wives over this one… it sucks but it’s baseball.

  190. genius says:

    guys who’d you rather have:

    CC
    AJ
    Joba

    or

    Nieve
    Martes
    Lannan

    • Zach says:

Nieve, Martes and Lannan. Obviously CC and AJ are just happy getting paid and Joba really wants to be the 8th inning guy

      • Drew says:

Aj can’t even pitch, he belongs in Canada. Jobber is useless in the rotation. He’s a bull in a china shop.

  191. Zach says:

    David Price is through 6IP!!
oh shit 9 hits, 5 runs

  192. Dela G says:

    we’ll get em tomorrow

    • e mills says:

not if it’s raining all day

    • VO says:

Perfectly said. It is such a luxury to have a team where you can say that and actually mean it. That game the Nationals just won is like their world series. This team is not a joke, they are actually a hell of a team and they don’t deserve ‘fans’ who get upset and all crazy over losing 1 game.

      • Dela G says:

I def agree man, its not like we lost to a pushover team, and i think the yankees will respond in their next game

  193. Dorian says:

For anyone who wants to look, Steve Lombardi is a B-HUGHESER. He has a different look about him coming out of the bullpen I guess. FACE-PALM

  194. Arod, all the time says:

    LOL

    That is all. Carry on.

  195. Drew says:

You know, I’m on these game threads about every night. I expect the wild trolls, negative nancies and positive posse’s. The one thing I find truly annoying is that while watching a ninth inning rally, people find a need to inject their negative views into a truly great baseball moment. Cano’s AB, he’s battling a guy that is spitting hot fire like Dylan, with movement, around the plate. Cano’s trying his best to tie the game, yet people have an urge to say something that is completely nonconstructive.
Afterward, if you want to go buck wild, that’s fine, do what you do, but during the moment, drink it in, enjoy what your watching and hope for the best. It makes being a fan much more enjoyable both for you, and I.

  196. Wolf Williams says:

You play not to lose, rather than play to win, and you usually lose.

Not sending A-Rod was a failure on Girardi’s part. If this was his thinking, “If I send him, and he gets nailed, and Gardner gets stuck at third, and Cano grounds out…. then it was a mistake to send A-Rod…” then I don’t want this guy managing this team anymore.

You lose with your strength, and the strong move here was forcing the Nats to make a play, either nailing A-Rod at second or nailing Gardner on a double steal attempt, or…. getting Cano to pop out or strike out with runners on second and third, take your pick. If the Nats execute, then tip your caps and say ‘Well done, boys.” But leaving your strength in place and never using it to force the issue is bad, bad, bad managing.

Losses sting less when they are lost by aggressively trying to dictate a situation. But this Yankees team has not been a great situational hitting club, so it was lame of Girardi to expect Cano to come through there without offering up any scenario that utlizied the speed on the bases.

Losing scared is pathetic. Call it cautious or prudent if you like, but I call it ‘scared.’ We died tonight with a few bullets still in the chamber. Inexcusable.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

I really do not get your logic. If the odds go against a move, you want to force the issue anyhow? If Pena was at first, I might get your point.

      • Wolf Williams says:

What makes you think the odds were against A-Rod getting to second safely?

And sometimes you have to go against the odds…. playing the ‘odds’ is playing it safe, and I’d rather have an aggressive approach that occasionally throws the odds book out the window.

Your ‘logic’ sounds like the old Taoist mantra ‘do nothing and nothing bad can happen to you.’ Seems like a wuss’s philosophy.

        • Drew says:

          You call me a wuss?
          seinfeld’d

        • Moshe Mandel says:

I’d say Alex, at his current state, is probably a 65-75% basestealer. That means 25%-35 % of the time, he would get caught. That is certainly higher than Cano’s GIDP rate. Also, you said the team should go with its strength. With Alex on first, and Cano and Posada coming up, the strength there is letting those guys hit, rather than taking relatively poor chances with outs.

          • Wolf Williams says:

Since even the best hitters fail 65% of the time, how is it ever a better choice to allow a batter to save the day than to allow a base stealer, when even the best catchers throw out only 30-40% of runners?

            • Because the runner isn’t 100%.
Because the tying run is on third with less than two outs. If Rodriguez runs into a tag and Gardner can’t go, it takes a hit to tie the game rather than hit into a sac fly.

              • Moshe Mandel says:

Exactly. Also, unless you double steal, all sending Alex does is keep you out of a DP. You still need the exact same thing you needed to tie the game anyhow- a Cano sac or Posada hit.

    • Why does everyone assume it’s a good thing to send Rodriguez? It definitely wouldn’t have been a bad thing but at the same time, the dude is clearly not at full speed and he could’ve been running into an out, which is just as bad as the double play. Plus, as Moshe said, that ball was tailor made and they may be able to turn two on that as it is.

      • V says:

I trust Cano’s bat control in that situation. All I know is that Cano hits a LOT OF GROUNDBALLS. I definitely send ARod there. Absolutely, 100%.

  197. Wolf Williams says:

You’re assuming all these bad outcomes…. again, scared thinking. If you don’t roll the dice out of fear of losing, then you lose anyway, what was gained?

Why not push a bad team like the Nats? Why not make them execute on defense? Why allow a bad team to sit back and wait for a double play?

No course of action was guaranteed to get a win here, but Girardi did not utilize all the assets he had at his disposal.

    • Aggressive baseball is not always good/smart baseball. Rodriguez isn’t 100%, the Nats could cut the ball off and get Gardner at the plate…the tying run was at third with less than two outs. There isn’t much of a need to run there, especially if the runner at first isn’t going to be at top speed.

  198. BigBlueAL says:

Sending ARod before a 3-2 count is a tough call to make. Although for everyone saying he cant steal yet and stuff, he is 2 for 2 in SB’s and both have come this month. Actually in the past 10 games.

So im not sure if it was that big a risk, especially considering ARod has always been a very efficient base stealer throughout his career. But again it wasnt an automatic send by any means. Although I personally once Cano got to 2 strikes wouldve sent him because by that point he is just trying to make contact and not just trying to lift a ball to the outfield.

But the game was not lost in that at-bat, it was lost all the innings before of hitting like shit and sleep-walking through the game.

    • baseball says:

agree with you. it was lost because the hitters sleepwalked for 8 innings. yeah, some will give credit to the pitcher but c’mon 2 HITS!? that’s terrible!!!

  199. Wolf Williams says:

Differences of philosophy is what we’re really talking about….. some are aggressive, some are not. I would take my chances with A-Rod more likely to steal than Cano more likely to get a hit.

And you could even tell A-Rod to bust up the receiver at second to make sure Gardner had a decent shot at going home.

    Again, just differences of philosophy.

  200. thebusiness says:

Girardi is bad at his job.

    Wolf Williams summed it up.

    • Drew says:

Word, same with Torre. Oh wait, he has the best record in baseball. I’m so sick of armchair managers and GM’s. Let’s just fire everyone until our manager goes 80-0 in the first half.

  201. donttradecano says:

Anybody know what the deal is with the Audi club? Theres always passes for cheap, and i read its an all you can eat buffet but is that with every pass or just the full season?

i figured buy cheap day of game tickets and $20 for the audi pass may be worth it, but does anyone know what the deal is?
