  1. Drew says:

It would suck to have had tickets to this game!

    • The Artist says:

Tell me about it. $120 down the tubes.

      • Brendan says:

I waited until 5PM and then left. As soon as I hit the bridge I hear Mike Francesa say they are taking the tarp off. I am so angry.

        • Drew says:

Word, that’s the problem with LONG rain delays. It’s cool if your sitting home watching on tv but it’s the ticket holder that loses.

    • A.D. says:

Only they let everyone move up to the nicer seats, so it’d be money to have upper deck seats to this game.

  2. Oh, forgot to mention, +1 to whoever recommended Arrogant Bastard to me. That beer has some bite. Much more than the Magic Hat IPA I’m drinking now.

  3. Yo Congressman:

On the off chance that you read this: Binney Park is flooded like woah.

  4. Chris A says:

Every fan who stayed should get a complementary seat from the old stadium.

  5. Drew says:

    And…. It’s raining.

  6. Bleaks says:

I wonder if they’ll let anyone that’s actually at the game go down and sit as close to the field as possible? Probably not.

  7. Drew says:

Why give my boy off if you’ve already got a weakened lineup.

  8. WOW! GREAT PLAY!

I <3 Nick Johnson being slow.

  9. Drew says:

It is so cool having good defense.

  10. Bleaks says:

    wow is Nick Johnson slow.

  11. pat says:

No fair, with the stadium being this empty its like a home game for the nats.

  12. Lily says:

after this long wait joba better pitch a good game and im hoping the yanks win

  13. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Why not just bat Gardner Cervelli and Pena 1, 2, 3? That way all the worst hitters can get the most at bats.

(apologies if this was covered already. I’m pretty lazy to have checked)

  14. Whew. Thought that was gone.

  15. Wow, I thought that was gone. Joba left it right over the plate.

  16. e mills says:

ughhh….the Nats announcers are THE worst. I’m about to watch on mlb.tv rather than on my television

  17. That’s Cervelli, Mike.

  18. BigBlueAL says:

Someone tell Joba the game has started. All 4 batter have absolutely killed the ball.

  19. Charlie says:

shit, bad start for joba. He’s throwin it all over the place

  20. Just missed his spot and Dunn made him regret it.

  21. Lily says:

wow imagine that double play hadn’t been made and once again joba struggles what else is new

  22. BigBlueAL says:

    WOW thanks ump!!!!

  23. The last two pitches of the inning were the best. The strike one slider to Dunn was good, too. Everything else…not so much.

  24. Charlie says:

goddamn, we better score fast & often tonight

  25. pat says:

Holy shit they let everybody move down!

  26. Charlie says:

    where’s melky?

  27. Ivan says:

Im pretty confident that the offense will score more than 2 runs tonight.

  28. Is there a single game where these two yokels don’t talk about their damn colleges?

  29. Charlie says:

YEA Grit. We gotta pound this guy

  30. Lanny says:

Why isn’t it being discussed about Joba’s diminished stuff?

He is clearly not the same pitcher as the last 2 years.

  31. dkidd says:

have we won a game this year that was played in the rain?

  32. Nice play to cut that off by Hernandez.

  33. Charlie says:

Not a good 2-0 pitch to swing at, Damon

  34. Tony says:

Nothing Melky is doing right now makes up for the speed/range disadvantage he has vs. Gardner. They have near-identical split stats.

  35. pat says:

STOP LOOKING AT STRIKE ONE DOWN THE MIDDLE

  36. RunnerS122 says:

I’m trying what has happened to patience of the hitters the last night and now tonight?

  37. Tampa Yankee says:

If ARod takes a walk here he is being selfish and letting down the team by not driving in the run from second.

  38. e mills says:

quick question…since A-Rod’s return, there hasn’t been much talk about the 2nd surgery A-Rod may or may not have to get at the end of the season…any word/thoughts?

  39. dkidd says:

    flaherty loves lamp

  40. Alex, what are you chasing? Come on, man.

  41. Drew says:

Al will tag that shit in his next AB. Write that shit down.

  42. VO says:

A-Rod just wanted to prove they could have played the US Open today.

  43. Lanny says:

So Wang gets a pass for being historically bad but A-Rod gets boo’d? Makes sense.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

3 ER in 5 innings yesterday for him isn’t bad at all. Considering that 1 of those runs shouldn’t exist.

    • Charlie says:

Neither should get booed, but you gotta feel for Wang even though he sucks, people will always boo arod first for obvious reasons.

    • pat says:

Nothing asshole yankee fans do makes sense.

  44. Lily says:

it will be very very sad if the yankees do lose this game.

  45. BigBlueAL says:

You cant help but just laugh at ARod right now.

  46. tampayankee says:

    Time to bench A-Wad
Clueless Joe does not have the guts to do it.

  47. Jamal G. says:

I love ARod’s aggressiveness there. No walks for that guy!

  48. Charlie says:

God A-rod is sucking. He’s whiffing at mediocre fastballs in the dirt. Can you please snap out of it already? Or do we need to call Yuri?

  49. e mills says:

Can’t wait to watch CC jack a homer in FL

  50. e mills says:

    LOL Cervelli

  51. Hahaha, that dive is second only to Joba’s.

  52. Drew says:

    lol at jorgie

  53. dkidd says:

eric byrnes approves of that unnecessary dive

  54. Jorge why are you laughing? Baseball is serious business.

  55. VO says:

Posada should be fined, laughing that Busch League.

  56. dkidd says:

    god damn cano is smooth

  57. ARX says:

Thanks for helping keep Joba’s pitch count down Nats! Appreciated :-)

  58. Is it just me or does the song in the Dell ad have the most non-sensical lyrics ever?

  59. YankeeScribe says:

    Cervelli’s defense > Matsui’s bat

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Your dislike of Matsui is obvious =/
      Cervelli’s OPS: .644
      Matsui’s OPS: .822

I’m going to doubt one great play is going to chance all that. Seriously.

    • YankeeScribe says:

I freakin love Matsui but you should atleast admit two things:

1 – Matsui’s old and WAYYY slower with his legs and his bat these days

2 – Catching and playing solid D for 27 outs has more value than going to the plate for 4 AB’s and only OPSing .800

  60. dkidd says:

does anyone know what song that is in the dell ad?

  61. Drew says:

Fuckin guy is a yankee killer!

  62. Good defensive game for Hernandez thus far.

  63. Yankee1010 says:

I like the way they’re working the counts again. No reason to let the Nats get into their bullpen. Let’s keep on hacking at a crappy starter they’ve never seen before. We all know that approach works well.

  64. Lily says:

nice play by robbie and now hernandez and wow where is the patience from the hitters? at this rate we are going to lose again and to the fkng nationals

  65. Drew says:

    19 pitches thru 2? wtf

  66. Stop chasing below the knees, guys.

  67. BigBlueAL says:

    5-pitch inning. Nice.

  68. dkidd says:

next week, what will the yankees instruct wang to do at the plate. stand there and don’t swing?

  69. RunnerS122 says:

That was a 5 pitch inning. Just standing there and not moving takes at least 9 pitches. These hitters should have 5 pitch at bats, not 5 pitch innings

  70. Zach says:

Dontrelle Willis is back on DL with “Recurring anxiety disorder”

  71. Jamal G. says:

Joba Chamberlain has recorded the past four outs on seven pitches.

  72. Drew says:

    close play

  73. Yo, Ramiro, charge that shit a little harder.

  74. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Home plate umpire had Guzman out on that single.

  75. dkidd says:

    nice play by pena

  76. Drew says:

Who you fuckin wit!!?? Ramiro making up for yesterdays blunder!

  77. pat says:

    Siiick throw.

  78. e mills says:

    to the bullpen!

  79. Yankee1010 says:

It’s funny that Jorge gets ridiculed for his defense and his inability to throw out runners. However, the play that Pena made on that throw by Cervelli was much harder than the ball he missed on Posada’s throw last night. However, it goes down as Posada giving up a stolen base and Cervelli catching a runner.

    I know it’s a ridiculously small sample.

  80. pat says:

Cervelli-pena-gardner.. the stuff dreams are made of.

  81. dkidd says:

do the rockies have a shot at the wild card?

  82. Adam says:

its so strange how his fastball velocity is down to 90-91 when he still tosses 86 mph breaking balls

  83. Jake H says:

Why do terrible pitchers dominate the Yanks?

  84. Tony Pena is is so intimidating.

  85. Yankee1010 says:

Take. A. Pitch. They have trouble with pitchers that they never see. Perhaps seeing a few pitches would help.

  86. Stephen says:

8 pitches, are you serious? Joba undeniably sucks and has terrible stuff.

    /sarcasm

  87. e mills says:

according to MASN this is Ramior Peen-ya

    • e mills says:

anyone else think Joba would have a sweet silhouette the way he stands before he pitches?

  88. Lily says:

    wow this is getting riddiculous

    • IT’S. THE. THIRD. INNING.

      • Lily says:

ye and their pitcher has thrown a total of 22 pitches riddiculous

      • Yankee1010 says:

Understandable. But, the Nats have one of the worst pens you could dream of. Going up and continually swinging right away just means that there is less of a need for them to be used. Plus, the Yanks struggle against guys they’ve never seen before and admit to this. Perhaps a way to get a better feel for him would be to actually take a look at some of his pitches instead of going up and hacking like dinner is getting cold.

  89. Charlie says:

it’s good to see our offense is putting in a lot of effort. We may be slumping, but at least we are working the count well..

  90. Or, Michael, they realize that these guys probably aren’t going to get much better and there’s no real growth being hindered by not playing them every day.

    • Yankee1010 says:

Yeah, that’s really the issue. It’s not like they’re high ceiling guys. They pretty much are what they are now.

    • Drew says:

Eh, too young to say. I’ve been of the opinion that Ramiro should be working on hitting in AAA.

  91. Charlie says:

is it that FUCKING HARD to TAKE A PITCH????????????????? What the FUCK ARE THEY DOING?

  92. Charlie says:

    Thank you gardner

  93. Andy Stankiewicz says:

This team could be facing Tits McGee and they would only have one hit after 3 innings. Incredible.

  94. Drew says:

I’m almost siding towards a damon gard melk OF.

    • Lanny says:

That’s the way it should be. Defensively its the best and Gardner gives the lineup an extra dimension it hasn’t had in years.

Swisher and Matsui can platoon at DH.

  95. Dominik says:

First Brett Gardner / Homer Bush comparison of the night by John Flaherty. Seriously, we get it.

  96. Homer Bush stole a grand total of seven bases for the Yankees.

  97. Lily says:

wow through 3 innings this kid has thrown 22 pitches

  98. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Homer Bush stole six bases as a Yankee and caught stealing 3 times.

This has been another “Yankee Greats of the 90′s” brought to you by Whimsical Memories.

    • dkidd says:

it’s taken 11 years, but homer bush has somehow retroactively transformed into a super sub

      • Dominik says:

Honest to Christ, Flaherty makes the same point about Homer Bush every… single… night. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point. It’s like clockwork.

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

I can’t wait to tell my kids about “Super, Terrific, Happy Fun Time Hideki Irabu”. One-fifth of the rotation of The Greatest Team Of All Time

    • Stephen says:

I stupidly didn’t believe you. Faulty memory is a hell of a thing eh?

  99. John says:

    Double play…

  100. A.D. says:

Don’t look now but BG has his numbers in the serviceable dept

    • Drew says:

.28 is more than serviceable with his speed. That said, Melk should be in the lineup. Mr. Blunder may have to sit to get my ideal lineup out there.

  101. John says:

Cmon Jobber finish em off…1-2 to begin with on Dunn then walks him

  102. Lanny says:

The offense really came to play these 3 games. Maybe they should have called this game. They got a flight to catch?

    • Drew says:

lol. I saw this bridge with your name on it.
Guess how long baseball games are.

    • DCR says:

Its going to be hard for me to take the Yankees seriously if they somehow manage to lose two of three from Washington.

  103. John says:

that ball three to harris was almost right down the middle on gameday

  104. Okay I get that Joba’s gonna walk some people but it just annoys the fuck out of me when he doesn’t go right after dudes who don’t have much power.

  105. BigBlueAL says:

Might be the 1st time in his career Willie Harris has been walked on 4 pitches.

  106. Drew says:

    Right doen the fuckin middle!

  107. John says:

ball 1 to nieves was a strike too!

  108. BigBlueAL says:

This ump’s strike zone is all over the place.

  109. Juuuuuuust a bit outside. Come on, Joba. Get this 0-26 starting mother fucker. Remember that shit?

  110. Dela G says:

    an this ump sucks tonight

  111. I love Joba’s slider as much as Joba does but against Wil Nieves, he’s gotta throw a fastball.

  112. Ivan says:

    You cannot walk Nieves.

  113. whozat says:

ok, those last two pitches were idiotic.

  114. YankeeScribe says:

    ugh

  115. BigBlueAL says:

Joba, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

  116. pc69 says:

Looks like after the long rain delay, the offense left for Florida.

this Nationals team has some great starting pitching..Second night in a row the Yanks are being 1 hit.

  117. Teix is the man says:

    Dear Joba,
Please don’t walk in any more runs. Thanks.

  118. A.D. says:

Nothing like handing the Nationals a run

  119. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Is Joba serious? This is a joke but its not funny.

  120. You have got to be fucking kidding. I don’t mind walks to Johnson and Dunn and the like but I cannot stand walks to Willie Harris and Wil Nieves.

    • whozat says:

Seriously. Someone needs to chew him the fuck out. Those sliders way off the plate to Wil Nieves were completely unacceptable. The ump is missing a bunch of pitches, but come ON.

  121. Larry says:

I’M SICK OF THESE INEFFICIENT STARTS BY JOBA! HE’S AN 8TH INNING PITCHER, NOT A STARTER! PUT HIM IN THE BULLPEN! HE’S OUT OF CONTROL. THE YANKEES HAVE RUINED THE BEST SETUP MAN IN BASEBALL! FIRE EILAND, FIRE POSADA, FIRE CERVELI, FIRE GIRARDI!

    • Andrew says:

      Shut up!

    • Andrew says:

Walks and inefficency are killing this pitching staff as a whole. Not just Joba. I don’t what gives here but Eiland probably needs to look in the mirror.

      • whozat says:

Yeah, he probably tells the pitching staff to waste lots of pitches. I bet his philosophy is “Ball one…ball two…and then hope they miss when you throw it right down the pipe.”

It couldn’t be that Burnett has ALWAYS had poor control? It couldn’t be that Pettitte has ADMITTED that he’s afraid to throw strikes because he believes he’ll give up home runs? It couldn’t be because Joba’s young and stupid and keeps wanting to get cute with his slider instead of going after people? It couldn’t be because Wang seems to be incapable of repeating his delivery?
Nah. It’s probably that Dave Eiland needs to look in the mirror.

    • Yankee1010 says:

      No.

  122. Dela G says:

    unbelievable

  123. Andrew says:

    What is Joba doing?!!!

  124. John says:

gotta be kidding me Joba…finish them off man

  125. DCR says:

What are the Yankees paying Dave Eiland to do?

    • Zach says:

      Hughes/Joba pitches bad blame Eiland.
      CC/AJ pitches bad blame Posada
      Andy/Wang pitches bad blame Andy/Wang

      • e mills says:

personally, I blame Eiland for Wang

        • Lanny says:

I’m sure Eiland throwing him under the bus after the Boston game went over well in the clubhouse.

      • DCR says:

You can take this crap and apply it to one of the irrational people who post here. I have never blamed Posada for anything and think Pettitte is pitching hurt. Its still upsetting me that Eiland hasn’t been able to get through to Joba, Wang, or Hughes this year.

    • whozat says:

That. Go out and tell Joba to throw his fucking fastball.

Can we at least put to rest the meme that Joba’s getting cute with his slider is Posada’s fault?

  126. Bleaks says:

What is his problem with challenging the #9 hitter with a fastball in a 2-2 count so you dont have to risk the walk? Unbelievable.

  127. Andrew says:

Walks are killing this pitching staff. Walk to Nieves? Really?

  128. pc69 says:

33 of 57 pitches for strikes. Not bad.

Still can’t put hitters away. Maybe there is something to the park theory.

    • Brandon says:

The park probably has a lot to do with walking batters.

      • Lanny says:

Why would the park play into anything about putting away hitters?

        • pc69 says:

because the park sucks for pitchers . Anything that gets in the air is a potential HR. Look at Cano’s from last night. so pitchers are afraid to make a mistake = more walks because they are out of the zone.

          • I understand that but walks to Willie Harris on 4 pitches and walks to Wil Nieves are just unacceptable. They’re not threats to hit it out of my front yard.

      • Andrew says:

You’re probably right. But still, throw some freaking strikes!

      • Yankee1010 says:

Doesn’t seem to be a problem for Stammen.

  129. Drew says:

If the offense could EVER get Joba a decent lead he’d be much more efficient. The dude never is given a fucking lead. That’s why he has so few decisions in his young career. It’s unbelievable.

    • dkidd says:

joba does seem like a different pitcher when he has a lead

    • Dave says:

Its hard when the Nationals starters are all future hall of famers…

    • Lanny says:

Thats the best excuse I’ve heard. “Hey guys score 10 runs so it makes it easier”. Really? You know some games are going to be a grind. He has to learn how to pitch. What pitcher gets 8 runs a game in run support and is on cruise control all game?

And he’d get more wins if he could last more than 5 innings.

    • DCR says:

Now its the offenses fault? Good god.

  130. Yankee1010 says:

Walking Hernandez and Nieves, really? Ouch. Let them hit a ball to beat you.

  131. Teix is the man says:

Mike Francesa must be sipping his diet coke in pleasure, wondering why nobody in the yankee organization listens to him lol

  132. Lanny says:

Another solid 5 innings from Joba.

There will come a time where someone has to pay for all the walks and thats usually the pitching coach.

  133. John says:

He was on pace to go 8 and now will have to be efficient to get to 6

    • whozat says:

Nope. 20 pitches per inning would put him at 102 pitches in 6 innings. That’s not efficient at all. Average efficiency would put him at 7 innings with 105 pitches or so.

      • John says:

I know but I leave a LOT of room for error considering Jobber’s las inning.

        • Bleaks says:

He’s averaging about 15.5 pitches per inning right now, not 20. He should be on pace to go 7 without a problem, barring another 30 pitch inning.

  134. Ivan says:

Man, the only pitchers on this team that throws consistent strikes, are CC, Mo, and Hughes.

  135. John says:

Please offense score!!! make me forget that bases-loaded walk to .297 OBP Nieves

  136. Drew says:

    HR please

  137. Lily says:

this team is hard to watch , its actually embarrassing tp watch. joba is not a starter , ye hes going to give you one really good start ( @ cleveland) three times a year. if the yankees want to win put joba back in the penn and get this offense to take pitches rather than swing at the first thing they see

  138. John says:

    Cmon Robbie

    • whozat says:

That was another horrendous inning. ARod swinging at the first pitch, Robbie going WAAAAY outside the strike zone on a 3-1 count?

This game is a disgrace. Yesterday not as bad, but today they just look awful out there.

  139. Dela G says:

Hey if your MLB.tv just went out, logout and log back in, and it will work again

  140. Dela G says:

man alex looks like he’ll never get a hit again…

  141. dkidd says:

    come on robbie!

  142. DGeezy says:

maybe we can send arod to ortizs eye doctor

  143. Lanny says:

    Cano’s OBP is an embarrassment.

Imagine if he was hitting .280? It would be under 300.

What pitcher would ever throw him a strike?

  144. John says:

Idk why we struggle with these pitchers we’ve never seen before…could it be we underestimate them?

I mean cmon its the Nationals, they suck because of their pitching.

Goddamn it Robbie, you were ahead 3-1 and hack at a horrible pitch.

  145. pc69 says:

Offensively, this team is on their period.

They are not hitting well, relying on the HR too much, not taking pitches, just a mental clusterfuck during AB’s.

Just magnified when they play a shithole team like the Nationals – a team made up of players no one wants.

  146. ken says:

    Sickening. Un-f’n-believable.

  147. J says:

the yankees have been playing really poorly since they got off that nice streak a few weeks back. what the hell is going on?

  148. Dave says:

Maybe Girardi needs to go absolutely bezerk on them. Or maybe flip out at the ump and get tossed.

    • J says:

the team always seems to go on a good run whenever girardi gets tossed… the yanks definitely need some fire in them… they’re playing with such little effort

      • Dave says:

I dont think its effort, could they possibly be underestimating them? Getting eaten alive by a no name pitcher and losing to the worst team in the league would fire me up but, i don’t know. Its just sad.

  149. John says:

It seems to me that whenever Alex slumps, the team slumps for the most part too. Now, Im probably wrong because it could I just remember it when both struggle. I’ve noticed for a couple of years now.

    • J says:

when your cleanup batter is hitting at a tick above replacement level… then yeah, the team is going to struggle. it’s not alex, its the fact we’re getting poor production at the four hole.

  150. John says:

Jobber struggling a lot to put hitters away

  151. pc69 says:

Just got an email from my friends, big letters:

YOUR YANKEES SUCK AND CAN’T EVEN BEAT THE NATIONALS. HOW PATHETIC.

So nice, 5 innings in and the Yankees are already causing grief.

  152. NYQ says:

Is this really happening? Are we really getting their asses handed to them by the NATS. THE WORST TEAM IS BASEBALL NATS. THE WE HAVE NO PITCHING NATS. WTF

  153. Larry says:

My God Joba needs to go to the bullpen. Forget about Wang, he piched well last night. Hughes should replace Joba in the rotation. And fire Girardi already. The team has given up on him.

  154. BigBlueAL says:

Nick Johnson’s mustache has got to go.

  155. Drew says:

Joba: 8 decisions in 24 starts. If a starter only gets a decision 33.3% of the time you would have to make 45 starts and win every decision to win 15 games. Joba doesn’t give much length, but he’s better than 8 w’s. this O doesn’t show up for him generally.

    • Drew says:

      * 8 decisions not wins, it’s only 6 wins.

    • DCR says:

This is the dumbest excuse for Joba pitching poorly I have ever seen.

      • Drew says:

Genius. I’m not making excuses. I’m making a general observation. Joba is not pitching poorly. 3.8 era coming into today. He’ll end with a quality start today. What is hard to comprehend about a general observation?

    • Lily says:

he doesnive them a chance he always puts them in a hole and they have to rally back

    • Zach says:

and 8 out of his 24 career starts he didnt go 5 innings so he couldnt get a decision even if they scored 20 runs for him

      • Drew says:

yeah word, I hear that. At the same time, if the team was up, he may have had a longer leash to be able to finish 5.

        • Zach says:

You have a point, but in fairness i think 2 of those <5 starts was back when they were building him up and had Geise backing him up, 1 was the texas game in which he got hurt, and 1 was the Baltimore game with getting hit in the knee.

Regardless tired of seeing 4, 4.2, or 5.1, i know hes a strike out pitcher so he has a high pitch count but at the same time it seems like he wastes alot of pitches. 0-2 and throw 3 sliders in the dirt.

  156. ken says:

If they lose this game then the Boss would have fired Girardi.

    • I’m sorry, but I loathe comments like this.

Way back when George was in charge completely, the Yankees sucked. So yeah, back then, Girardi would probably be gone already or soon enough. But the Yankees were bad when George had full control over decisions like that.

In addition, I don’t even think your statement is true. Let’s say sometime in the mid-late 90s George reasserted something close to the amount of control he exerted before his suspension (he was the owner, but he no longer exerted the kind of control he did prior to his suspension). How many managers did he fire during that period? None.

      • I don’t like my comment (above)… Here’s the concise version: Back when George made decisions like that, the Yankees were bad and George was a liability. But he hasn’t made decisions like that in over a decade anyway, so it’s a moot point.

  157. Larry says:

Well that’s it. Game’s over. Joba blew it for us. The offense will never get 3 runs off of these guys.

  158. YankeeScribe says:

    Joba sucks tonite

  159. OmgZombies! says:

Joba got the Wangitis. I’m done with this game…..

  160. crawdaddy says:

The media, certain Yankee fans and even Joba can’t blame Posada for his performance today.

  161. Teix is the man says:

    wow….

  162. Ivan says:

I’ll be honest, Im quite dissapointed by Joba so far in this game.

    • He’s made some bad pitches to good hitters and they’ve made him pay for it.

      • OmgZombies! says:

Oh god stop making freaking excuse for the Yankees. Will Neives is not a good hitter. The Dunn and Zimmerman I can forgive but the walks are death by papercut.

        • I’m talking about the hits he’s given up. Earlier, I expressed a shitton of frustration about walking Nieves and Harris. That’s absolutely inexcusable.

      • Ivan says:

You can’t walk Wil Nieves or Willie Harris. I understand he’s young and he’s gonna make some mistakes on inexperience but I really thought he would pitch with some conviction and at times he hasn’t.

  163. RunnerS122 says:

Okay, The yankees are down three. The game must be over, they haven’t scored 7 runs in the 8th or 9 runs in a inning this year. Oh wait…

  164. Drew says:

If this was 3-3 right now we’d be saying Joba is grinding.

  165. Dave says:

You know, I’m pretty sure Flaherty is the most depressing YES announcer.

    • thurdonpaul says:

flaherty is f in annoying, i thought i didnt like leiter, but he is a much better announcer then flash

  166. BigBlueAL says:

Flaherty and Kay are letting Joba have it.

    • e mills says:

      what are they saying?

      • Dave says:

Flaherty brought up the “if he goes to the pen, the velocity may come back…”

        • BklynJT says:

Something is wrong with Joba’s velocity, and I highly doubt it’s because he’s holding back as a starter. There have been times when he’s throwing mid 90′s as a starter, and then times when he’s throwing craptastic 91 which just isn’t good enough for us spoiled fans. Is it mechanics? An injury?

  167. Teix is the man says:

Flaherty….JOBA IS NOT GOING TO THE PEN!!!!

  168. Slu says:

I don’t get it. Joba is only pitching OK, but the offense should be ashamed of themselves for the performances they have put up against this pitching staff. These guys are below replacement level players. It is unbelievable.

  169. dkidd says:

let’s score some $%^#%^&^%$& runs, please

  170. Ed says:

Joba needs to be in pen

  171. dkidd says:

rain + yankees looking flat + grim ass anti-smoking commercials between every inning = depression

  172. Drew says:

AP should be in the pen.
AJ should be in the pen.
Wang should be in the pen.

  173. Dave says:

    Oh. My. God.

  174. ARX says:

    WHAT. THE. FUCK. SWISHER?!?!?!?!

  175. John C. says:

Sorry…when did Cervelli dive?? I must’ve missed it. Did he make the catch? Did he have to dive to catch it or was it just hotdogging?

  176. Larry says:

BENCH NICK SWISHER! HE’S A BASERUNNING IDIOT!

  177. YankeeScribe says:

    Adam Dunn > Nick Swisher

  178. Drew says:

Wait, another base running error by Swish? go figure.

  179. BigBlueAL says:

Alright Yankees with 1st and 2nd with 0 outs. Oh wait….

  180. Smitt Dog says:

Nice work swish. Can I get a count on his mental gaffes in the past 10 days? 5?

  181. JobaWockeeZ says:

Matsui got a hit but it doesn’t matter he’s killing this team because Cervelli and Posada aren’t playing. Matsui should be DFA’d.

  182. NYQ says:

Damn it Swisher. You are a complete idiot. Learn to fundamentals. I know he wants to get them going, but just get on base!

  183. Lily says:

doesn’t swisher know he’s not the fastest guy and with the team in the hole, i just don’t understand this team.

  184. John says:

    more baserunning blunders for swish

  185. Drew says:

Is there one jackass making all these asinine comments or is it a whole slew of jackasses?

  186. Larry says:

Would have had 1st and 2nd no outs. Swisher might have cost us our 3rd ballgame in the past 2 weeks with baserunning blunders. For a guy who has a low average, he needs to do better or bench him for Gardner.

  187. DCR says:

I can’t believe people here are trying to say Joba is pitching okay. 11 base runners through five innings is pretty bad.

  188. Teix is the man says:

    kay is an idiot

  189. Charlie says:

My god this team resembles a sack of shit the way they’re playing. fucking embarassing if we lose a series to the washington nationals. FUCK this offense and wake up and smell the coffee joba.

  190. Dave says:

Is it time to reverse root yet? GO NATS!

  191. LiveFromNewYork says:

So does the weekly meeting of negative assholes happen every Thursday on RAB?

    • Zach says:

it happens whenever the Yankees do not score 10 runs before the 3rd inning while our pitcher does not a shutout through 5

    • DCR says:

There is nothing positive about this game so far. Joba is doing his best Daisuke Matsuzaka impression and the lineup (although not our everyday group) looks like crap. Stammen has 53 pitches through 5IP. That’s inexcusable.

      • LiveFromNewYork says:

        It’s baseball.

I have a feeling that a lot of people here don’t embrace the live by the tema die by the team philosophy. They’re of the “You guys lost!” but “We win!” school of thought.

  192. Stephen says:

    This is very frustrating.

  193. NYQ says:

Wouldn’t you think the Yankees would watch even more video on this scrub during the rain delay. THIS IS PATHETIC JUST PATHETIC.

  194. Smitt Dog says:

Exactly what talk show is Lynn Hoffman the host of?

  195. Drew says:

Quick inning for Jober. Also, I’m pissed at Swisher.

    • Charlie says:

get used to it. Swisher is just a dumbass, he’s going to break the record for most idiotic plays that cost a team runs in a single season. Not to mention he is a K machine and ridiculously streaky.

    • BklynJT says:

I definitely say that Swisher’s honeymoon period is over with the Yankees. I’m one person who can’t wait to get Nady back. I’ve had enough with Swishers bone headed mistakes.

  196. Wow, that whistle was incredibly impressive.

  197. DCR says:

    Sandy Stammen and Cy Lannan.

  198. Charlie says:

Maybe I could see letting one pitcher with a upper 80s fastball own us for eight innings. But two in a row, and this one has a 5 something ERA. NOW That IS FUCKING PATHETIC.

  199. e mills says:

we need the “good luck” new thread…

  200. Larry says:

The Red Sox would have never made a baserunning error like Swish made. Why? Because they play the game the right way. They do the little things. The Sox are gritty and gutty. The Yankees are just out there to collect a paycheck. Probably why the Red Sox are running away with the division. Cashman and Girardi need to go.

  201. dkidd says:

we’re winning this game. spillover thread for good luck after joba mows them down 1-2-3?

  202. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well like 18 of the last 20 comments are going batshit over this game so I’mma going to gtfo.

  203. John says:

I guess we cant blame Jobber’s troubles on JoPo

  204. If Andy Pettitte were the starter, they’d say that Andy was battling, throwing his typical game, and the Yankees just haven’t supported him with runs.

    • DCR says:

62 pitches through six innings for Stammen. Joba didn’t pitch well but as Matt said, he limited the damage. This offense should be able to score four runs off the worst staff in the league.

  205. Teix is the man says:

aight, one more out, then he has a quality start…for what its worth

  206. Lily says:

    now he gets nieves

  207. Charlie says:

Do the “The yankees will bring the winning run to the plate in this game” spillover thread. Those work the best

  208. Conan says:

It looks like last night’s “it’s only 1 game” is starting to loom a little bit larger…

  209. pat says:

6ip 3 runs thats a quality start no?

  210. Mike D. says:

Time for a new game thread?

  211. RunnerS122 says:

don’t forget 60% strike percentage on his pitches

  212. John says:

Ok Jobber struggled but battled and got a Quality start so this is all on the offense

  213. Do you bring Joba back out for the 7th?

  214. dkidd says:

lol at “he can speak french…in russian”

  215. Drew says:

Bring Jober out for 15 more pitches.
Also, offense, let’s score a fuckin run or two plz.

  216. Dave says:

    J. Damon,

    Get some new bats

  217. BigBlueAL says:

Im sorry, but this is fuckin embarrassing.

  218. Charlie says:

MOTHER FUCKER, what is this bull shit they call an offense. Don’t even put up a fight or anything, JUST GET BEATEN BY THE FUCKING NATIONALS.

  219. SouthernYankeeFan says:

This game makes me want to throw up. the guy came into the game with an ERA over 5 and the Yanks act like they are facing Cy fucking Young.

9 pitches that inning are you shitting me.

  220. Dave says:

I guess we wont get to see the Nats pen tonight either.

  221. John says:

    cmon spillover thread

  222. Yankee1010 says:

62 pitches through 6. They’re really getting Stammen in some deep counts. Looking good.

  223. Charlie says:

    FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  224. yankw says:

I’m damn glad I’m working right now because if I actually had to watch this lineup right now my remote would be in a thousand pieces out of frustration. Why would anyone ever throw a pitcher against the yanks who’s era is under 5

  225. Tom Zig says:

    Is this kid good too?

  226. Teix is the man says:

ed i’m sorry for saying fuck you…i feel bad, and didn’t really mean it, I was just frustrated wayching the game

  227. Drew says:

I know Joba’s arm would have fallen off if he threw ten more pitches, so I understand this move.

  228. Charlie says:

We should really DH CC next game. See if he can fucking HIT THE BaLL.

  229. Stephen says:

How can they destroy Johan and get shut down by Nieve, Lannan, and Stammen. I’m flabbergasted.

    • Yankee1010 says:

Because they’ve never seen them before? As a Yankee, that means they’re contractually obligated to turn them into Cy Young.

    • Andy Stankiewicz says:

Maybe the lineup is not as good as everyone thinks it is.

      • DCR says:

The current lineup contains Gardner, Pena, Cervelli, and a slumping A-Rod. It should be sufficient but its not our A Game.

  230. Teix is the man says:

ed i’m sorry for saying fuck you…i feel bad, and didn’t really mean it, I was just frustrated watching the game tonight

  231. Yankee1010 says:

This team has shown a lot of fight on multiple occasions this year. Their resiliency has really impressed me.

That being said, they seem genuinely disinterested in competing tonight. Not cool.

  232. Johnny Repeat hasn’t mentioned that anyone is proud of his fastball tonight. I’m shocked.

    • Charlie says:

in good time, in good time. Be patient, he will. The guy just got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, so I give him a pass

  233. Dela G says:

    good god this game sucks

  234. dkidd says:

    nice route, brett

  235. arlok789 says:

Gardner is fast as all hell.

  236. Dave says:

If they lose this, It is certainly closed door meeting time. Just do something to shake them up.

  237. pc69 says:

By the next weekend going into the Mets Series, Yankees will be 7 games out of first place, counting tonights debacle – losing 2 of 3 to the Nationals, IS worse than getting swept by Boston.

  238. BklynJT says:

Gardner: That’s how you do it Melky…

    • Drew says:

What does Gardner say to Melky when Brett is afraid of a wall?
Gardy: Melky, that’s how Abreu did it.
Gardy: You see that throw? That’s how JD does it.

  239. YankeesFanInMI says:

The Yankees have put up no runs in 6 innings against the Nationals, and most of you are on here bitching about Joba giving up 3 runs through 6? Granted he didn’t look great, but he did enough to keep the Yankees in it. Blame the offense if you’re going to complain. Goddamn…

  240. LiveFromNewYork says:

Scrub pitchers don’t get to the playoffs so we’re all set there.

    • SouthernYankeeFan says:

Yeah but if you play like this against scrub pitchers its hard to get to the playoffs. These are games you have to win. a team coming into the series having won 16 games and worst road record in baseball. Come on this is fucking pitiful.

Now time to come back and win this game.

  241. baseball says:

guys, just tip your cap to the pitcher. he’s done a great job so far.

    • Charlie says:

REALLY??? ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ME???? TIP YOUR CAP??? THE GUY THROWS 88 mph and has gotten rocked all season as evidenced by his ERA. NO, I’M NOT TIPPING MY HAT TO THIS SCRUB.

  242. pc69 says:

Peter Abraham just said it best:

“Two runs in 15 innings against the Nationals. Just Brilliant”

  243. Drew says:

Watch, now Alf is going to swoop in and steal Joba’s win… I’d bet on it. This inning we’ll score at least 4.

  244. Wolf Williams says:

I’m late to this thread…. but 1) Swisher can empty out his locker any time now, and 2) Joba ought to forfeit a game check for walking in a run when he was ahead in the count….

WHat’s the excuse count up to for Joba? Still a young guy waiting to mature? Still getting used to a starting role? Not comfortable with his catchers? What…..?

This nonsense of bad first innings and walks and high WHIPs and…. the list goes on and on. He is more frustrating than Wang.

    • LiveFromNewYork says:

The Histrionic Society checking in. Please go sit next to the Whiny Six Year Old Girls and The World Is Coming To An End Melvins.

    • Charlie says:

dude, you’re crazy. Yes, Joba is still young and waiting to mature. And he didn’t even pitch THAT bad today, he battled. He is not even as close to as frustrating as Wang. So shut the fuck up with Joba and complain about this pitiful offense that showed up tonight

    • SouthernYankeeFan says:

Ok while i am dissapointed with the walking in a run, i have no problem with the start from Chamberlain today you know how many teams would like to have his start today. i have to think most games wehn joba allows 3 runs the yankees are going to win.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Hey! Now we need Axl and we’re complete today.

  245. Dave says:

The Nationals last won a series May 9th.

  246. NYQ says:

Why does this first time thing only happen to the Yankees. If I was another team, I would just call up a scrub to face the Yankees, they would throw a no hitter than you can just bring them back down.

  247. Smitt Dog says:

Kay sounds legitamitely fed up. He’s gonna get a talking to from Hal after the game. Going negative on the Yankees is not the YES way.

  248. Tom Zig says:

How does A-rod not crank that out of the park?

  249. Wolf Williams says:

And another thing….. hoe can Girardi get away with not getting this group fired up night in and night out? This is two games in a row where the team was listless as all hell, and Girardi does what? You know…. a leader has to have a hand in how the team takes the field. The length of the rain delay is irrelevant. These are professional players who owe the fans a top-notch performance every time out. Girardi seems to do very very little in terms of having this group mentally ready game in and game out.

To wit….. Swisher’s weekly and sometimes semi-weekly baserunning screw-ups. Girardi needs to make it very clear there is going to be a penalty for that bullshit.

  250. DCR says:

    At least Tampa lost.

  251. SouthernYankeeFan says:

did i see arod say phew.

  252. Jamal G. says:

    *Stands and claps*

  253. NYQ says:

WE are not meant to win this game Now it is definitely true.

  254. YankeeScribe says:

Can’t win when the Nats take away hits all day

  255. Dela G says:

    man cmon yankees…

  256. Dave says:

Im pretty sure that play sums up this series.

  257. Larry says:

Not enough effort there by A-Rod. He needs a day off.

  258. Charlie says:

God A-rod you fucking suck! I’m calling Yuri right now. I’ll tell him to get a 3 month’s supply of Boli.

  259. Smitt Dog says:

Ill tip my hat to that catch. Pretty legit.

  260. SouthernYankeeFan says:

see that sucks if A-Rod doesnt get robbed then he probably scores there.

    • Dela G says:

i agree, it kind of sucks. I wish we had jeter though, there would be people on base…

  261. Mike D. says:

Wow. Nothing is going the Yankees way right now. They might actually lose the series to the NATINALS.

  262. John says:

Stammen has averaged about 10 pitches per INNING so it was nice to see Alex work a 8 pitch AB

  263. Yo fuck Willie Harris. He made that play look so much better than it had to be. If he didn’t turn the wrong way he would’ve had it w/o jumping.

  264. Smitt Dog says:

    BALL FOUR NICK!!

  265. Drew says:

    This thread is mad slow.

  266. dkidd says:

    great at-bat by swisher

  267. Wolf Williams says:

You clowns do all the name-calling you want….. But get used to the fact that not everyone is willing to offer any and every excuse for Joba to continue looking like crap.

The bottom line is that you never walk in a run, ever. You just can’t do it. And this ‘quality start’ nonsense is another of these made-up phrases or stats that are just excuses for guys not pitching better. No one wants to hear about ‘quality starts.’ There is no ‘quality’ to loading the bases and givng up runs with bases on balls.

You guys come back with all the childish name-calling you want to…. but reasonable fans here can discuss this stuff without resorting to 8th-grade language.

  268. Drew says:

WTF happened to windmill there? dude bobbled it.

  269. Moshe Mandel says:

So, does that count, or did Swish already clean out his locker?

  270. NYQ says:

    Cano should have scored there

  271. Charlie says:

Nice, now let’s SCORE A FUCKING FUN alreadyy

  272. John says:

    Ok Hideki get em in

  273. dkidd says:

    come on matsui!!!

  274. Tom Zig says:

    Yes Ron Villone is in!
