Drew says:

It would suck to have had tickets to this game!

Tell me about it. $120 down the tubes.

Brendan says:

I waited until 5PM and then left. As soon as I hit the bridge I hear Mike Francesa say they are taking the tarp off. I am so angry.

Drew says:

Word, that’s the problem with LONG rain delays. It’s cool if your sitting home watching on tv but it’s the ticket holder that loses.

A.D. says:

Only they let everyone move up to the nicer seats, so it’d be money to have upper deck seats to this game.

Oh, forgot to mention, +1 to whoever recommended Arrogant Bastard to me. That beer has some bite. Much more than the Magic Hat IPA I’m drinking now.

yankw says:

magic hat lucky cat is weak try smuttynose IPA very good quality

Tom Zig says:

ever have Delirium tremens?

or

SweetWater 420 pale ale?

Delirium yes. Usually get it at this Belgian place down in Chelsea.

No on SweetWater. Though it sounds right up my alley.

A.D. says:

Sweetwater is only in the south to my knowledge

Yo Congressman:

On the off chance that you read this: Binney Park is flooded like woah.

Crazy. I definitely don’t miss navigating those streets, with all the downed trees and branches, during or after a big storm.

Chris A says:

Every fan who stayed should get a complementary seat from the old stadium.

Drew says:

And…. It’s raining.

Bleaks says:

I wonder if they’ll let anyone that’s actually at the game go down and sit as close to the field as possible? Probably not.

Charlie says:

They don’t really let you, but i did it when i was at a rainy game in May. You can sneak down there pretty easily

Bleaks says:

They should encourage everyone to tonight. At least the team would hear a little noise.

Bleaks says:

Nice, that’s exactly what they are doing!!!!!

Drew says:

Why give my boy off if you’ve already got a weakened lineup.

andrew says:

Assuming “your boy” is Posada, day game after a night game. Although it ended up being a night game after a night game, I’m guessing GIrardi decided to stick with his original line up.

JobaWockeeZ says:

His boy is Melky.

Drew says:

heh. beat me to it. You know what’s up

Drew says:

my boy is melky.

WOW! GREAT PLAY!

I <3 Nick Johnson being slow.

Drew says:

It is so cool having good defense.

Bleaks says:

wow is Nick Johnson slow.

pat says:

No fair, with the stadium being this empty its like a home game for the nats.

Lily says:

after this long wait joba better pitch a good game and im hoping the yanks win

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Why not just bat Gardner Cervelli and Pena 1, 2, 3? That way all the worst hitters can get the most at bats.

(apologies if this was covered already. I’m pretty lazy to have checked)

Whew. Thought that was gone.

Wow, I thought that was gone. Joba left it right over the plate.

e mills says:

ughhh….the Nats announcers are THE worst. I’m about to watch on mlb.tv rather than on my television

Ivan says:

It’s hard to a homer when your team sucks so badly.

That’s Cervelli, Mike.

BigBlueAL says:

Someone tell Joba the game has started. All 4 batter have absolutely killed the ball.

Charlie says:

shit, bad start for joba. He’s throwin it all over the place

Just missed his spot and Dunn made him regret it.

Lily says:

wow imagine that double play hadn’t been made and once again joba struggles what else is new

e mills says:

it would be new that he struggles…3 runs/start isn’t struggling. He may have to battle, but struggle, I dunno about that

pat says:

wow imagine he struck everybody out, that would be awesome

LiveFromNewYork says:

Once again you’re here complaining. what else is new

BigBlueAL says:

WOW thanks ump!!!!

The last two pitches of the inning were the best. The strike one slider to Dunn was good, too. Everything else…not so much.

Charlie says:

goddamn, we better score fast & often tonight

pat says:

Holy shit they let everybody move down!

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Give the pleebs a bone! (Seriously, pretty cool of them)

Charlie says:

where’s melky?

Drew says:

Ivan says:

Im pretty confident that the offense will score more than 2 runs tonight.

Is there a single game where these two yokels don’t talk about their damn colleges?

Charlie says:

YEA Grit. We gotta pound this guy

Lanny says:

Why isn’t it being discussed about Joba’s diminished stuff?

He is clearly not the same pitcher as the last 2 years.

The last pitch of the inning was 94 on the outside corner. Calm down.

Zach says:

but it wasnt 99

Charlie says:

I’m not sure if this is a joke or not

Charlie says:

joba’s stuff? are you kidding me? He’s got a mid 90s fastball with a nasty as hell slider, a work in progress change & curve. Do you consider that diminished stuff? He doesn’t have to throw 98 to get hitters out.

dkidd says:

have we won a game this year that was played in the rain?

Nice play to cut that off by Hernandez.

Charlie says:

Not a good 2-0 pitch to swing at, Damon

Tony says:

Nothing Melky is doing right now makes up for the speed/range disadvantage he has vs. Gardner. They have near-identical split stats.

e mills says:

Drew says:

Yeah, winning games is over rated.

Charlie says:

wow, you are incredibly wrong

pat says:

STOP LOOKING AT STRIKE ONE DOWN THE MIDDLE

RunnerS122 says:

I’m trying what has happened to patience of the hitters the last night and now tonight?

Tampa Yankee says:

If ARod takes a walk here he is being selfish and letting down the team by not driving in the run from second.

Tampa Yankee says:

Glad he didn’t walk and pass the buck.

I’m joking by the way

e mills says:

quick question…since A-Rod’s return, there hasn’t been much talk about the 2nd surgery A-Rod may or may not have to get at the end of the season…any word/thoughts?

dkidd says:

flaherty loves lamp

Alex, what are you chasing? Come on, man.

Andy Stankiewicz says:

ARod needs a day off and then dropped in the order for the short term.

Zach says:

yeah move him to 8th

Drew says:

Al will tag that shit in his next AB. Write that shit down.

VO says:

A-Rod just wanted to prove they could have played the US Open today.

Lanny says:

So Wang gets a pass for being historically bad but A-Rod gets boo’d? Makes sense.

JobaWockeeZ says:

3 ER in 5 innings yesterday for him isn’t bad at all. Considering that 1 of those runs shouldn’t exist.

Charlie says:

Neither should get booed, but you gotta feel for Wang even though he sucks, people will always boo arod first for obvious reasons.

pat says:

Nothing asshole yankee fans do makes sense.

Lily says:

it will be very very sad if the yankees do lose this game.

BigBlueAL says:

You cant help but just laugh at ARod right now.

tampayankee says:

Time to bench A-Wad
Clueless Joe does not have the guts to do it.

JobaWockeeZ says:

LOLOLOLOL.
Even Lanny is making more sense that you.

Jamal G. says:

I love ARod’s aggressiveness there. No walks for that guy!

BigBlueAL says:

Jim Rice approves of this comment.

Charlie says:

God A-rod is sucking. He’s whiffing at mediocre fastballs in the dirt. Can you please snap out of it already? Or do we need to call Yuri?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Because getting out of slumps can be fixed in a snap.

e mills says:

Can’t wait to watch CC jack a homer in FL

e mills says:

Hahaha, that dive is second only to Joba’s.

Drew says:

dkidd says:

eric byrnes approves of that unnecessary dive

Jorge why are you laughing? Baseball is serious business.

VO says:

Posada should be fined, laughing that Busch League.

dkidd says:

god damn cano is smooth

ARX says:

Thanks for helping keep Joba’s pitch count down Nats! Appreciated :-)

Is it just me or does the song in the Dell ad have the most non-sensical lyrics ever?

dkidd says:

fun song, though

YankeeScribe says:

Cervelli’s defense > Matsui’s bat

JobaWockeeZ says:

Your dislike of Matsui is obvious =/
Cervelli’s OPS: .644
Matsui’s OPS: .822

I’m going to doubt one great play is going to chance all that. Seriously.

YankeeScribe says:

I freakin love Matsui but you should atleast admit two things:

1 – Matsui’s old and WAYYY slower with his legs and his bat these days

2 – Catching and playing solid D for 27 outs has more value than going to the plate for 4 AB’s and only OPSing .800

dkidd says:

does anyone know what song that is in the dell ad?

Drew says:

Fuckin guy is a yankee killer!

Good defensive game for Hernandez thus far.

Yankee1010 says:

I like the way they’re working the counts again. No reason to let the Nats get into their bullpen. Let’s keep on hacking at a crappy starter they’ve never seen before. We all know that approach works well.

Lily says:

nice play by robbie and now hernandez and wow where is the patience from the hitters? at this rate we are going to lose again and to the fkng nationals

It’s the third inning.

e mills says:

yep it’s the bottom of the 9th already w/ 2 outs and Gardner down 0-2

Drew says:

19 pitches thru 2? wtf

Stop chasing below the knees, guys.

BigBlueAL says:

5-pitch inning. Nice.

dkidd says:

next week, what will the yankees instruct wang to do at the plate. stand there and don’t swing?

thurdonpaul says:

they should tell him to strike out on purpose

RunnerS122 says:

That was a 5 pitch inning. Just standing there and not moving takes at least 9 pitches. These hitters should have 5 pitch at bats, not 5 pitch innings

Zach says:

Dontrelle Willis is back on DL with “Recurring anxiety disorder”

Drew says:

Wanger can be DL’d for Loud Annoying Baby syndrome.

Ivan says:

He’s afraid to get his ass whiped by the hitters?

Jamal G. says:

Joba Chamberlain has recorded the past four outs on seven pitches.

Drew says:

Yo, Ramiro, charge that shit a little harder.

And you atoned for it. Good job, Ramiro.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Home plate umpire had Guzman out on that single.

dkidd says:

nice play by pena

Drew says:

Who you fuckin wit!!?? Ramiro making up for yesterdays blunder!

pat says:

e mills says:

to the bullpen!

Yankee1010 says:

It’s funny that Jorge gets ridiculed for his defense and his inability to throw out runners. However, the play that Pena made on that throw by Cervelli was much harder than the ball he missed on Posada’s throw last night. However, it goes down as Posada giving up a stolen base and Cervelli catching a runner.

I know it’s a ridiculously small sample.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

It literally cannot get any smaller.

Yankee1010 says:

I know. I wasn’t saying that it wasn’t.

pat says:

Cervelli-pena-gardner.. the stuff dreams are made of.

Stephen says:

Cervelli-pena-gardner.. the stuff dreams nightmares are made of.

dkidd says:

do the rockies have a shot at the wild card?

Adam says:

its so strange how his fastball velocity is down to 90-91 when he still tosses 86 mph breaking balls

Jake H says:

Why do terrible pitchers dominate the Yanks?

Tony Pena is is so intimidating.

Yankee1010 says:

Take. A. Pitch. They have trouble with pitchers that they never see. Perhaps seeing a few pitches would help.

Stephen says:

8 pitches, are you serious? Joba undeniably sucks and has terrible stuff.

/sarcasm

e mills says:

according to MASN this is Ramior Peen-ya

e mills says:

anyone else think Joba would have a sweet silhouette the way he stands before he pitches?

Charlie says:

it’s good to see our offense is putting in a lot of effort. We may be slumping, but at least we are working the count well..

Lily says:

wow this is getting riddiculous

IT’S. THE. THIRD. INNING.

Lily says:

ye and their pitcher has thrown a total of 22 pitches riddiculous

It’s a one run game. If you think the Yankees can’t get one run, well, then you’re delusional.

Yankee1010 says:

Understandable. But, the Nats have one of the worst pens you could dream of. Going up and continually swinging right away just means that there is less of a need for them to be used. Plus, the Yanks struggle against guys they’ve never seen before and admit to this. Perhaps a way to get a better feel for him would be to actually take a look at some of his pitches instead of going up and hacking like dinner is getting cold.

Or, Michael, they realize that these guys probably aren’t going to get much better and there’s no real growth being hindered by not playing them every day.

Yankee1010 says:

Yeah, that’s really the issue. It’s not like they’re high ceiling guys. They pretty much are what they are now.

Drew says:

Eh, too young to say. I’ve been of the opinion that Ramiro should be working on hitting in AAA.

Charlie says:

is it that FUCKING HARD to TAKE A PITCH????????????????? What the FUCK ARE THEY DOING?

Zach says:

dont yell at our SS and C of the future!!1!

Charlie says:

Thank you gardner

Andy Stankiewicz says:

This team could be facing Tits McGee and they would only have one hit after 3 innings. Incredible.

Drew says:

I’m almost siding towards a damon gard melk OF.

Lanny says:

That’s the way it should be. Defensively its the best and Gardner gives the lineup an extra dimension it hasn’t had in years.

Swisher and Matsui can platoon at DH.

Dominik says:

First Brett Gardner / Homer Bush comparison of the night by John Flaherty. Seriously, we get it.

Homer Bush stole a grand total of seven bases for the Yankees.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

i forgot about his second stint. Andy = Fail.

Lily says:

wow through 3 innings this kid has thrown 22 pitches

Zach says:

Charlie says:

ur off by 6, nice try though

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

It feels like 10.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Homer Bush stole six bases as a Yankee and caught stealing 3 times.

This has been another “Yankee Greats of the 90’s” brought to you by Whimsical Memories.

dkidd says:

it’s taken 11 years, but homer bush has somehow retroactively transformed into a super sub

Dominik says:

Honest to Christ, Flaherty makes the same point about Homer Bush every… single… night. It’s beyond ridiculous at this point. It’s like clockwork.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

I can’t wait to tell my kids about “Super, Terrific, Happy Fun Time Hideki Irabu”. One-fifth of the rotation of The Greatest Team Of All Time

dkidd says:

don’t forget to tell them about the glory that was clay bellinger

BigBlueAL says:

Dont forget to tell them they won 4 WS in 5 years and would wipe the floor with the current Yankees team.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Stephen says:

I stupidly didn’t believe you. Faulty memory is a hell of a thing eh?

John says:

A.D. says:

Don’t look now but BG has his numbers in the serviceable dept

Drew says:

.28 is more than serviceable with his speed. That said, Melk should be in the lineup. Mr. Blunder may have to sit to get my ideal lineup out there.

John says:

Cmon Jobber finish em off…1-2 to begin with on Dunn then walks him

Lanny says:

The offense really came to play these 3 games. Maybe they should have called this game. They got a flight to catch?

Drew says:

lol. I saw this bridge with your name on it.
Guess how long baseball games are.

DCR says:

Its going to be hard for me to take the Yankees seriously if they somehow manage to lose two of three from Washington.

John says:

that ball three to harris was almost right down the middle on gameday

whozat says:

That second pitch…also down the middle.

Okay I get that Joba’s gonna walk some people but it just annoys the fuck out of me when he doesn’t go right after dudes who don’t have much power.

BigBlueAL says:

Might be the 1st time in his career Willie Harris has been walked on 4 pitches.

whozat says:

Well, it’d help if the ump called strikes strikes instead of calling them balls.

Drew says:

Right doen the fuckin middle!

John says:

ball 1 to nieves was a strike too!

BigBlueAL says:

This ump’s strike zone is all over the place.

Juuuuuuust a bit outside. Come on, Joba. Get this 0-26 starting mother fucker. Remember that shit?

Dela G says:

an this ump sucks tonight

I love Joba’s slider as much as Joba does but against Wil Nieves, he’s gotta throw a fastball.

Zach says:

no blame for cervelli?

Ivan says:

You cannot walk Nieves.

whozat says:

ok, those last two pitches were idiotic.

YankeeScribe says:

BigBlueAL says:

Joba, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

pc69 says:

Looks like after the long rain delay, the offense left for Florida.

this Nationals team has some great starting pitching..Second night in a row the Yanks are being 1 hit.

Teix is the man says:

Dear Joba,
Please don’t walk in any more runs. Thanks.

A.D. says:

Nothing like handing the Nationals a run

Andy Stankiewicz says:

Is Joba serious? This is a joke but its not funny.

You have got to be fucking kidding. I don’t mind walks to Johnson and Dunn and the like but I cannot stand walks to Willie Harris and Wil Nieves.

whozat says:

Seriously. Someone needs to chew him the fuck out. Those sliders way off the plate to Wil Nieves were completely unacceptable. The ump is missing a bunch of pitches, but come ON.

Larry says:

I’M SICK OF THESE INEFFICIENT STARTS BY JOBA! HE’S AN 8TH INNING PITCHER, NOT A STARTER! PUT HIM IN THE BULLPEN! HE’S OUT OF CONTROL. THE YANKEES HAVE RUINED THE BEST SETUP MAN IN BASEBALL! FIRE EILAND, FIRE POSADA, FIRE CERVELI, FIRE GIRARDI!

Andrew says:

Andrew says:

Walks and inefficency are killing this pitching staff as a whole. Not just Joba. I don’t what gives here but Eiland probably needs to look in the mirror.

whozat says:

Yeah, he probably tells the pitching staff to waste lots of pitches. I bet his philosophy is “Ball one…ball two…and then hope they miss when you throw it right down the pipe.”

It couldn’t be that Burnett has ALWAYS had poor control? It couldn’t be that Pettitte has ADMITTED that he’s afraid to throw strikes because he believes he’ll give up home runs? It couldn’t be because Joba’s young and stupid and keeps wanting to get cute with his slider instead of going after people? It couldn’t be because Wang seems to be incapable of repeating his delivery?
Nah. It’s probably that Dave Eiland needs to look in the mirror.

Yankee1010 says:

Dela G says:

Andrew says:

What is Joba doing?!!!

John says:

gotta be kidding me Joba…finish them off man

DCR says:

What are the Yankees paying Dave Eiland to do?

Zach says:

Hughes/Joba pitches bad blame Eiland.
CC/AJ pitches bad blame Posada
Andy/Wang pitches bad blame Andy/Wang

e mills says:

personally, I blame Eiland for Wang

Lanny says:

I’m sure Eiland throwing him under the bus after the Boston game went over well in the clubhouse.

DCR says:

You can take this crap and apply it to one of the irrational people who post here. I have never blamed Posada for anything and think Pettitte is pitching hurt. Its still upsetting me that Eiland hasn’t been able to get through to Joba, Wang, or Hughes this year.

whozat says:

That. Go out and tell Joba to throw his fucking fastball.

Can we at least put to rest the meme that Joba’s getting cute with his slider is Posada’s fault?

Bleaks says:

What is his problem with challenging the #9 hitter with a fastball in a 2-2 count so you dont have to risk the walk? Unbelievable.

Andrew says:

Walks are killing this pitching staff. Walk to Nieves? Really?

pc69 says:

33 of 57 pitches for strikes. Not bad.

Still can’t put hitters away. Maybe there is something to the park theory.

Brandon says:

The park probably has a lot to do with walking batters.

Lanny says:

Why would the park play into anything about putting away hitters?

pc69 says:

because the park sucks for pitchers . Anything that gets in the air is a potential HR. Look at Cano’s from last night. so pitchers are afraid to make a mistake = more walks because they are out of the zone.

I understand that but walks to Willie Harris on 4 pitches and walks to Wil Nieves are just unacceptable. They’re not threats to hit it out of my front yard.

Andrew says:

You’re probably right. But still, throw some freaking strikes!

Yankee1010 says:

Doesn’t seem to be a problem for Stammen.

Drew says:

If the offense could EVER get Joba a decent lead he’d be much more efficient. The dude never is given a fucking lead. That’s why he has so few decisions in his young career. It’s unbelievable.

dkidd says:

joba does seem like a different pitcher when he has a lead

Dave says:

Its hard when the Nationals starters are all future hall of famers…

Lanny says:

Thats the best excuse I’ve heard. “Hey guys score 10 runs so it makes it easier”. Really? You know some games are going to be a grind. He has to learn how to pitch. What pitcher gets 8 runs a game in run support and is on cruise control all game?

And he’d get more wins if he could last more than 5 innings.

Andrew says:

Dude shut up. Joba usually makes it through six.

Drew says:

decent lead jack ass. not 10 runs. how about 3? Go root for your team and leave us alone.

DCR says:

Now its the offenses fault? Good god.

Drew says:

lol. whatever man. Have you ever watched Joba? He rarely has a lead.

Yankee1010 says:

Walking Hernandez and Nieves, really? Ouch. Let them hit a ball to beat you.

Yankee1010 says:

Sorry, Harris and Nieves. Mantle and Maris they are not.

Teix is the man says:

Mike Francesa must be sipping his diet coke in pleasure, wondering why nobody in the yankee organization listens to him lol

Zach says:

yeah 2 runs through 4 ip is horrible

whozat says:

And 60 pitches in four innings? So inefficient!

Andrew says:

But you can’t be walking guys Nieves. That’s the sad part and what can equate to inefficency.

Teix is the man says:

Relax man, I just thought the imagery was humorous…Jeez

Andy Stankiewicz says:

Averages to be about 4 in 8 innings. That is nothing to be proud of.

Zach says:

as a 23yr old starter? because tim lincecum had a 4.00 in his first 24 starts

Teix is the man says:

Relax asswipe, I was kidding

Dela G says:

don’t get me started on fatcessa

Lanny says:

Another solid 5 innings from Joba.

There will come a time where someone has to pay for all the walks and thats usually the pitching coach.

How is it Dave Eiland’s fault that Joba threw a bunch of sliders low and away to Wil Nieves?

John says:

He was on pace to go 8 and now will have to be efficient to get to 6

whozat says:

Nope. 20 pitches per inning would put him at 102 pitches in 6 innings. That’s not efficient at all. Average efficiency would put him at 7 innings with 105 pitches or so.

John says:

I know but I leave a LOT of room for error considering Jobber’s las inning.

Bleaks says:

He’s averaging about 15.5 pitches per inning right now, not 20. He should be on pace to go 7 without a problem, barring another 30 pitch inning.

Ivan says:

Man, the only pitchers on this team that throws consistent strikes, are CC, Mo, and Hughes.

Ivan says:

John says:

Please offense score!!! make me forget that bases-loaded walk to .297 OBP Nieves

Drew says:

Lily says:

this team is hard to watch , its actually embarrassing tp watch. joba is not a starter , ye hes going to give you one really good start ( @ cleveland) three times a year. if the yankees want to win put joba back in the penn and get this offense to take pitches rather than swing at the first thing they see

If it’s embarrassing to you, stop watching the games.

Oh and, who would you replace Joba in the rotation with?

Andy Stankiewicz says:

DCR says:

I don’t want to take Joba out of the rotation but this is a silly question. Hughes would replace Joba.

I don’t want it either. And Hughes is a downgrade from Joba.

BklynJT says:

Something must be up with Joba. The guy’s velocity is so inconsistent. And if he’s only throwing 91-92 as a starter, I don’t think he is better than Hughes.

Andrew says:

What the hell are you talking about? Joba’s Era is not too high. In fact, for a 23 year old starter with 24 starts, it’s pretty damn good. Enough of this, “Joba can’t be a starter bullshit”.

Lanny says:

His WHIP is awful. Way too many base runners. That ERA will only rise.

He’s pitching himself back into the pen at this rate. Can’t have a SP give 5 innings every 5th day.

150 innings of average pitching >>> 70-80 innings of lights out pitching.

BklynJT says:

Eh…I’m not sure I agree with that. If your talking about replacement level pitching, that shit is a dime a dozen, especially if its only for 5 innings.

Both Joe Blanton and Jamie Moyer had higher WAR totals than Brad Lidge last year. Andy Pettitte had a higher WAR than Mo last year.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I don’t know why you watch. All you do is complain. Oh maybe that’s why.

Lily says:

we’re fans just voicing our frustration. theres nothing wrong with that, its normal

John says:
whozat says:

That was another horrendous inning. ARod swinging at the first pitch, Robbie going WAAAAY outside the strike zone on a 3-1 count?

This game is a disgrace. Yesterday not as bad, but today they just look awful out there.

Dela G says:

Hey if your MLB.tv just went out, logout and log back in, and it will work again

Dela G says:

man alex looks like he’ll never get a hit again…

dkidd says:

come on robbie!

DGeezy says:

maybe we can send arod to ortizs eye doctor

Lanny says:

Cano’s OBP is an embarrassment.

Imagine if he was hitting .280? It would be under 300.

What pitcher would ever throw him a strike?

whozat says:

“Cano’s OBP is an embarrassment. league average”

fixed that for you.

Imagine if he were hitting .380? It would be over .400!

I can play the “Imagine if” game too.

John says:

Idk why we struggle with these pitchers we’ve never seen before…could it be we underestimate them?

I mean cmon its the Nationals, they suck because of their pitching.

Goddamn it Robbie, you were ahead 3-1 and hack at a horrible pitch.

pc69 says:

Offensively, this team is on their period.

They are not hitting well, relying on the HR too much, not taking pitches, just a mental clusterfuck during AB’s.

Just magnified when they play a shithole team like the Nationals – a team made up of players no one wants.

Teix is the man says:

i would take Zimmerman if they asked me to!

pc69 says:

Might be the only one but don’t for get he plays in the NL.

Teix is the man says:

Ahh, good point, i’d problably still take him

Sickening. Un-f’n-believable.

J says:

the yankees have been playing really poorly since they got off that nice streak a few weeks back. what the hell is going on?

Dave says:

Maybe Girardi needs to go absolutely bezerk on them. Or maybe flip out at the ump and get tossed.

J says:

the team always seems to go on a good run whenever girardi gets tossed… the yanks definitely need some fire in them… they’re playing with such little effort

Dave says:

I dont think its effort, could they possibly be underestimating them? Getting eaten alive by a no name pitcher and losing to the worst team in the league would fire me up but, i don’t know. Its just sad.

John says:

It seems to me that whenever Alex slumps, the team slumps for the most part too. Now, Im probably wrong because it could I just remember it when both struggle. I’ve noticed for a couple of years now.

J says:

when your cleanup batter is hitting at a tick above replacement level… then yeah, the team is going to struggle. it’s not alex, its the fact we’re getting poor production at the four hole.

John says:

Jobber struggling a lot to put hitters away

pc69 says:

Just got an email from my friends, big letters:

YOUR YANKEES SUCK AND CAN’T EVEN BEAT THE NATIONALS. HOW PATHETIC.

So nice, 5 innings in and the Yankees are already causing grief.

NYQ says:

Is this really happening? Are we really getting their asses handed to them by the NATS. THE WORST TEAM IS BASEBALL NATS. THE WE HAVE NO PITCHING NATS. WTF

Larry says:

My God Joba needs to go to the bullpen. Forget about Wang, he piched well last night. Hughes should replace Joba in the rotation. And fire Girardi already. The team has given up on him.

Joba is a better starter than Phil Hughes.

NYQ says:

ARE YOU KIDDING Hughes is way better than Joba.

No, no he isn’t.

NYQ says:

Well Joba is definitely helping your argument now.

Oh I forgot. Yankee pitchers aren’t allowed to have bad games, especially when they’re under 25. They should be Roy Halladay and Johan Santana put together every single time they touch the mound and if not, put ‘em in the bullpen.

Drew says:

Do you know what Phil’s ERA is? Joba will pitch the 6th and leave with a QS.

Joba also has a slightly better FIP.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Lily says:

what? your nuts to think that! joba has better stuff but hughes is a better starter than he is.

No, I’m not. Go look on Joba’s B-R page and look at his stats as a starter.

BigBlueAL says:

Nick Johnson’s mustache has got to go.

Drew says:

Joba: 8 decisions in 24 starts. If a starter only gets a decision 33.3% of the time you would have to make 45 starts and win every decision to win 15 games. Joba doesn’t give much length, but he’s better than 8 w’s. this O doesn’t show up for him generally.

Drew says:

* 8 decisions not wins, it’s only 6 wins.

DCR says:

This is the dumbest excuse for Joba pitching poorly I have ever seen.

Drew says:

Genius. I’m not making excuses. I’m making a general observation. Joba is not pitching poorly. 3.8 era coming into today. He’ll end with a quality start today. What is hard to comprehend about a general observation?

Lily says:

he doesnive them a chance he always puts them in a hole and they have to rally back

You’re very wrong about this, actually. Joba has allowed more than three earned runs all of TWO TIMES this season.

Zach says:

and 8 out of his 24 career starts he didnt go 5 innings so he couldnt get a decision even if they scored 20 runs for him

Drew says:

yeah word, I hear that. At the same time, if the team was up, he may have had a longer leash to be able to finish 5.

Zach says:

You have a point, but in fairness i think 2 of those <5 starts was back when they were building him up and had Geise backing him up, 1 was the texas game in which he got hurt, and 1 was the Baltimore game with getting hit in the knee.

Regardless tired of seeing 4, 4.2, or 5.1, i know hes a strike out pitcher so he has a high pitch count but at the same time it seems like he wastes alot of pitches. 0-2 and throw 3 sliders in the dirt.

ken says:

If they lose this game then the Boss would have fired Girardi.

I’m sorry, but I loathe comments like this.

Way back when George was in charge completely, the Yankees sucked. So yeah, back then, Girardi would probably be gone already or soon enough. But the Yankees were bad when George had full control over decisions like that.

In addition, I don’t even think your statement is true. Let’s say sometime in the mid-late 90s George reasserted something close to the amount of control he exerted before his suspension (he was the owner, but he no longer exerted the kind of control he did prior to his suspension). How many managers did he fire during that period? None.

I don’t like my comment (above)… Here’s the concise version: Back when George made decisions like that, the Yankees were bad and George was a liability. But he hasn’t made decisions like that in over a decade anyway, so it’s a moot point.

Larry says:

Well that’s it. Game’s over. Joba blew it for us. The offense will never get 3 runs off of these guys.

Teix is the man says:

you’re an asswipe

Drew says:

worse than that.

NYQ says:

You are right how can we score against a team with an ERA over 5.5? I mean if it was over 10 maybe, but the NATS have the team pitching in baseball!

YankeeScribe says:

Joba sucks tonite

NYQ says:

That has been a trend recently.

Joba got the Wangitis. I’m done with this game…..

crawdaddy says:

The media, certain Yankee fans and even Joba can’t blame Posada for his performance today.

Teix is the man says:

Ivan says:

I’ll be honest, Im quite dissapointed by Joba so far in this game.

He’s made some bad pitches to good hitters and they’ve made him pay for it.

Oh god stop making freaking excuse for the Yankees. Will Neives is not a good hitter. The Dunn and Zimmerman I can forgive but the walks are death by papercut.

I’m talking about the hits he’s given up. Earlier, I expressed a shitton of frustration about walking Nieves and Harris. That’s absolutely inexcusable.

Ivan says:

You can’t walk Wil Nieves or Willie Harris. I understand he’s young and he’s gonna make some mistakes on inexperience but I really thought he would pitch with some conviction and at times he hasn’t.

RunnerS122 says:

Okay, The yankees are down three. The game must be over, they haven’t scored 7 runs in the 8th or 9 runs in a inning this year. Oh wait…

Drew says:

If this was 3-3 right now we’d be saying Joba is grinding.

Smitt Dog says:

Voice of reason, thank you…

Dave says:

You know, I’m pretty sure Flaherty is the most depressing YES announcer.

thurdonpaul says:

flaherty is f in annoying, i thought i didnt like leiter, but he is a much better announcer then flash

BigBlueAL says:

Flaherty and Kay are letting Joba have it.

e mills says:

what are they saying?

Dave says:

Flaherty brought up the “if he goes to the pen, the velocity may come back…”

BklynJT says:

Something is wrong with Joba’s velocity, and I highly doubt it’s because he’s holding back as a starter. There have been times when he’s throwing mid 90’s as a starter, and then times when he’s throwing craptastic 91 which just isn’t good enough for us spoiled fans. Is it mechanics? An injury?

Teix is the man says:

Flaherty….JOBA IS NOT GOING TO THE PEN!!!!

Slu says:

I don’t get it. Joba is only pitching OK, but the offense should be ashamed of themselves for the performances they have put up against this pitching staff. These guys are below replacement level players. It is unbelievable.

Zach says:

john lannan was not a below replacement level pitcher

Slu says:

Maybe not, but the rest of the staff is. And the main point I was trying to make is that Joba is not the problem here.

dkidd says:

let’s score some $%^#%^&^%$& runs, please

Only because you asked politely.

NYQ says:

It not going to happen.

Joba needs to be in pen

AP should be in the pen.
AJ should be in the pen.
Wang should be in the pen.

ARX says:

WHAT. THE. FUCK. SWISHER?!?!?!?!

Dave says:

I like it actually, at least someone will be agressive

John C. says:

Sorry…when did Cervelli dive?? I must’ve missed it. Did he make the catch? Did he have to dive to catch it or was it just hotdogging?

Larry says:

BENCH NICK SWISHER! HE’S A BASERUNNING IDIOT!

YankeeScribe says:

Adam Dunn > Nick Swisher

Slu says:

No shit. Got anymore revalations?

Drew says:

Wait, another base running error by Swish? go figure.
