I swear, anyone that curses at another commentor is banned immediately. Grow up and show each other some respect. You can think of a better way to get your point across.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Time to shake off the dust of the banhammer.

Charlie says:

Just wondering, how can you ban a person? Does it not allow their email address back on or what?

We can do it many ways. Email, handle, IP, you name it.

Charlie says:

31 flavors of ban hammer.

ansky says:

“anyone that curses at another commentor is banned immediately”

hmm, i wonder who that could be. U? W? hmm

That’s pretty funny.

BEISBOL says:

that comment was directed at V!!! ahahaha

Ed says:

He’s insufferable

ChrisS says:

You can’t expect too much out of the bullpen when CC doesn’t get out of the 2nd.

Tomko showed why he doesn’t need to be in the majors despite Cashman’s mancrush on him.

Posada could have prevented that run from scoring (Robertson, too) and Melky nails the lead runner most of the time.

John says:

D-Rob was screwed by the ump on the Hanley AB, we would have gotten out of this.

Anthony says:

Relax, we’ve got two innings left with the top of our lineup coming up. This is certainly doable.

Evan says:

Let’s get some offense, s’il vous plait!

Charlie says:

i would kill for a comeback here

Ivan says:

Guys, you do know, it’s quite difficult to win a game when ur best pitcher is knocked out after an 1.1 IP?

cjc says:

ut oh freddy made a bubu

RunnerS122 says:

What was the on-field delay?

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Can we get nunez i love his stuff hell be perfect for are bullpen.

J says:
yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

i wish i knew what would it take to get him

J says:

lol then we should get Pujols. he’d be awesome for our lineup.

Accent Shallow says:

I believe he’ll be arb-eligible for next season, so maybe he would be available soon.

Dela G says:

Accent Shallow says:

Game threads this year have been a minefield, with the occasional exception of blowout wins.

JobaWockeeZ says:

No winning in general makes a lot of people quiet.
Then a bomb comes in when we lose.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I leave you people alone for ONE second and look what happens!

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

i hope they take away the 2 runs they scored.

charlespoet says:

Is the person posting as V always this angry and cursing at everyone?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Knock it off with this. We all want this flame war to end and you’r no better if you’re going to keep referencing him.

charlespoet says:

Dude this is the first time I have posted and I am just asking. I know it is the internet but what happened to civility?

Good grief, Charlie Brown!

JobaWockeeZ says:

And the end result of this would most of the time the person you’re asking about cursing and flaming you because of this. He’s not posting, this flame war is ridiculous and watch the game. Whether you just posted is irrelevant because you could have started a brand new fight.

charlespoet says:

Wow! The world has changed.

yankees=warriors says:

What is the significance of the situation now?

BigBlueAL says:

Damn, hoping the Marlins had to forfeit or something.

cjc says:

my god could you imagine if umpires were responsible for world events my god they take forever and get everything wron

cjc says:

Ah National League baseball.

yankees=warriors says:

Mike D. says:

BOOO. This delay is longer than replay delays.

Accent Shallow says:

Clearly, this is ruining the integrity of the game.

Dela G says:

hahaha joe girardi makes me laugh

JobaWockeeZ says:

i thought girardi was stoopid and diint know how to manag teh gaem of the beisbol

John says:

We are just going through a tough stretch here. We are just struggling to inferior teams and Nick Greens hit a walk-off for dem Sox today. We’ll get it soon

yankees=warriors says:

I didn’t know that.
Nick Green? Man…

That homer would have been a foul ball in every other stadium. Stupid Pesky Pole.

John says:

Exactly, they are having some luck while we hit a rough patch.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I remember a time when they lost 5 straight games and everyone thought they were done. Then they win 9 straight. People need to calm down.

John says:
ChrisS says:

the marlins manager screwed up a line-up change, should have burned a player, and Girardi is calling them on it. There’s an umpire conference and it looks like Girardi is going to win the argument.

John says:

If De Aza is allowed to stay in, they have to play the rest of the game under protest.

cjc says:

honestly how can he possibly be allowed to continue

Girardi should get fired up and get thrown out of this one. What are they, 3-0 when he does that?

Dela G says:

hell i am already throwin a fit at my own house

John says:

seriously, can anyone tell me what the delay is for?

John says:

Dela G says:

what does protesting the game do?

Honestly, nothing. If the play under protest is ruled to have impacted the outcome of the game, they’ll make the teams replay from that point on, but I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Dela G says:

Evan says:

Apparently, they messed up with the lineup. De Aza was supposed to be in the field in place of Coghlan but then became ineligible once Nunez threw a pitch. Gonzalez tried to convince them that he meant to put De Aza in but it was too late so he had to put Hermida in.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

come one yankees lets gets sum runs here.

Accent Shallow says:

Let’s see if they can make something happen . . .

cjc says:

the sad thing is chances are we just waited 10 minutes for absolutly nothing

Zach says:

thats not true at all

Bob Stone says:

It’s ridiculous that it took ten minutes for four umpires to figure out that lineup snafu. Just pathetic.

Dela G says:

Had he protested the game, what would that have done?

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

at least 2runs here yanks wtf.

BigBlueAL says:

The delay has really cooled off Nunez.

Dela G says:

Capital T says:

I read thru the earlier posts and was surprised nobody questioned why Aceves was pulled after only 2 2/3 and 45 pitches. I thought he was a long guy?

BigBlueAL says:

Girardi was just trying to delay the inevitable.

Jobamania says:

Mike may have to ban himself ;) “I swear”

uhoh Mike

Jose says:

Yankees teams after 69 games:
2009: 38-31 or maybe 39-30
2007: 35-35
2001: 39-30
2000: 37-32
1997: 39-30

Still plenty of time. I implore you to enjoy watching this team. They are a good one, even if some of you don’t think they are.

yankees=warriors says:

I’m frustrated because when I’m finally able to watch the whole game, they’re playing like…this.

Capital T says:

Good point, I’m coming in off the ledge but I’ll keep the window open just in case

Riddering says:

Thank you for this. Now, when I want to appreciate my team I have evidence with which to support my optimism.

yankees=warriors says:

That delay sure helped…

Jobamania says:

all that to go down 1-2-3

A+++

Steve O. says:

The Yankees have a fine bullpen, any other bullpen gets exposed in almost 8 innings of work. They usually work 3-4 innings, or in CC’s starts only 1-2 innings.

Dela G says:

aaaaand we are down to cano, posada, and i forgot who else

charlespoet says:

Look at the bright side, Cano cannot hit into a DP for the 3rd time in 4 games (I think)

Steve O. says:

If he grounded into a GIDP that would make it the 3rd time in 5 games. Close, but no cigar.

charlespoet says:

oops, thanks. forgot about ARod, so the DP still existed.

John says:

As his parting gift, Tomko should buy the team dinner for the loss. If not, he at least owes Ace some dinner after taking away the win and championship belt.

Jobamania says:

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:
Dela G says:

i thought vintage jeter was hitting into a GIDP[/most of RAB

Steve O. says:
Dela G says:

that could be vintage jeter too

Evan says:

Wow, nice stretch, Tex, to help Jeter out.

John says:

If we lose, it’s going to suck. I’ve already worked out so I don’t where to take my frustration out. I’m thinking about doing a second workout.

Yes, that was random.

Ed says:

Girardi is gonna get canned with another bad week

Dela G says:

John says:

So they took away the run originally charged to D-rob? His Era is down to 1.88

Eric says:

That’s fair imo. The first guy to score was Coke’s responsibility, and the second guy scored on Melky’s error.

I haven’t seen most of this game but I’m upset D-Rob gave up some runs. :( Oh well.

John says:

Eric says:

1.2 IP, 4 SO, 0 ER

Oh they were unearned? I saw him strike a fool out whilst in Carvel then by the time I got to my sister’s w/the family, they were down 6-3.

Joebrah says:

So, it’s probably been mentioned, but there’s quite a few comments.

Was there any particular reason Girardi pulled Aceves out after just two and change?

He really looked phenomenal today. And doesn’t this organization have plans for him to be a starter? You yank him when he’s looked the best he’s looked all season and bring tomko in?

Tomko’s been released by his last three teams, including KC.

Eric says:

He hasn’t thrown more than 50 pitches in a long time. His arm wasn’t really stretched out enough to go any further.

He’s been working out of the bullpen for two months now, I don’t think he can do much more than 45 pitches anymore.

He’s a reliever for this season. They want him to be available later in the week.

Joebrah says:

But Aceves has been the closest thing to a LRP that the yankees have had in their bullpen all year.

They honestly don’t have anyone who can throw fifty + pitches in that pen? They’ve got like 3 bench players and 90 pitchers on that roster, and not more than 5 of them can pitch for more than a couple innings?

I’m not trying to sound like a dick, I honestly didn’t know that and am, come to think of it, not all that surprised.

John says:

D-rob’s stats:

1.84 ERA
23 K’s and a .157 AVG against in 14.2 innings

Awesome!

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

come on yanksssssssssssssssssssss

John says:

Lindstrom throws 99?

Pfft, on a bad day.

BigBlueAL says:

Thats his changeup.

John says:

Eric says:

He averages 96.4, so it’s pretty likely he can hit 99.

BigBlueAL says:

Arod just got toyed with.

BigBlueAL says:

When was the last inning the Yankees had a baserunner??

cjc says:

what a shitty month and a very bad week terribly frustrating

Jobamania says:

Jobamania says:

as good as we were in the month of may, we’re just as bad in the month of june

J says:

our pitching has been average and adequate. its the offense that’s cost us games. take out our fiasco against johan, and the numbers look really really bad.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

dis is great just great we lose to da nationals and now the marlins.

Jose says:

Wait until the last out.

What is that, 15 in row retired?

Dela G says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

A walk and a HR ties it, we’re not done as many people are thinking right now.

Dela G says:

boy with 2 outs? this should be fun

Jobamania says:

uh, if melky gets on, we better see damon up there. screw waiting for the pitchers spot

John says:

I say Tomko deflated the offense’s motivation

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

now is getting preety interesting.

Tying run to the plate, Matsui to pinch hi … oh, wait.

Bill says:

The season is on the brink of collapse. We can’t beat Philly, can’t beat Washington, can’t beat Florida, needed a miracle to beat the Mets. CC is hurt, Joba is inconsistent, and nobody in the lineup is producing.

Two people need to go in order for us to turn it around before it’s too late- Brett Tomko and Joe Girardi.

V says:

No season is on the brink of collapse on June 21st.

Unless you’re already 10 games under .500.

Tying run at the plate! Keep the line movin’, Brett!

Evan says:

Apparently, my mother thinks that if Posada were faster, he could score on that hit of Melky’s. WTH?

Jobamania says:

what the FUCK is gardner doing up here? this is unreal

Jobamania says:

lol, don’t tell me you expected that

Andrew says:

leave it to gardner to kill the rally.

Dela G says:

this is where i wish we had the X man

ChrisS says:

Matsui would have been good here.

You were right, Mike.

ChrisS says:

Nevermind, go Gardner!

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

man i would love to see gardner walk and den a pinch hit grand slam.

John says:

cmon Grit…( I actually have no confidence in him for this spot whatsoever for some reason)

John says:

never mind…nice gritty

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

holy shyt this is good.

Jobamania says:

HOLY FUCK, GARDNER COMES THROUGH

OH MY FUCKING GOD

WHAT THE HELL

Did not see that coming.

Steve O. says:

yankees=warriors says:

Damn, I was wishing for a inside the parker!!!

Evan says:

I thought it was off the bat but credit to the Marlins for not messing up.

Let’s continue the rally, Damon.

BigBlueAL says:

OMG I thought maybe it couldve been an inside-the-park HR for a second.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I THOUGHT THIS GAME WAS OVAH!

Accent Shallow says:

Should they have sent Gardner? Ha ha

whooboy says:

Baba ORiley time!

charlespoet says:

Wow. If only someone could reign in the throws of melky we’d be tied.

Jobamania says:

damon shoulda been sent home

Jobamania says:

woops i mean gardner

claybeez says:

Nicest swing yet from Brett.

John says:

no confidence in damon here

Jobamania says:

dot.

he’s been ice cold

Let’s go, Johnny! Bring ‘im around!

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

BigBlueAL says:

Accent Shallow says:

I was about to agree with Mike’s post from the last thread, that they should have saved Matsui so he could pinch hit for Gardner.

Heh, Girardi lucked out. Nine times out of ten that comes back to bite him.

Accent Shallow says:

Completely agreed. Maybe in a parallel universe, Matsui goes yard. Still, not gonna complain.

Steve O. says:

And just like that, we’re one hit away.

J says:

gardy! he might be a borderline major league player, but he’s been a god send for the Yankees this year.

How in the world do you pull an 97+ mph fastball?

Steve O. says:

The same way you bunt a 97+ mph fastball.

cjc says:
cjc says:

the crowd that is

Andrew says:

Lindstrom is throwing gas

Jobamania says:

let gardner steal home :lol:

Lidstrom’s motion reminds me of Veras’s.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

i though that was ready to go to the screen.

John says:

No confidence at all (WTF is wrong…IM trying my best, really) It’s gonna sting more because it could be another game lost by an error

Jobamania says:

oh my fucking god, jeter? oh god, i’m not sure how i feel about this situation.

Come on, Jeets. Show that clutch.

Andrew says:

I hear you on that

BigBlueAL says:

Well, at least Jeter cant GIDP.

cjc says:

at least he can’t gidp

Damon drew a walk with a tying run on third? OMG what a bum!!! Where’s Nady!!!

yankeegirl49 says:

Please dont let this be a tease!!

charlespoet says:

Quick poll….

Jeter does what?

Jobamania says:

so much stress, please jeter do not fail me :(

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

charlespoet says:

First chance, have to send Pena to avoid Capt DP.

Charlie says:

there’s 2 outs, DP not possible

Charlie says:

holy shit, this is gonna be even sadder now if we lose

yankees=warriors says:

If only this had happened yesterday, we would have won already.

John says:

Can the captain be clutch

Accent Shallow says:

Eric says:

J says:

Tailor made GIDP ball. He just walked the last batter, why take a pitch Jetes?

BigBlueAL says:

Of course, 1st ball swinging.

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Lindstrom walks the go ahead run on base and Jeter swings at the first pitch?

ansky says:

No kidding. I respect Jete’s judgement but swinging at a first pitch from a guy who can barely get his breaking ball over the plate? Not too thrilled.

Jobamania says:

what the FUCK jeter, ugh. fucking unreal, i hate him in the leadoff spot, more times than none it bites us in the ass since he has no clue how to fucking work a count

cjc says:

come on first pitch swinging captain clutch he is not right now fuck

Ivan says:

Yanks99 says:

Jeter must’ve thought there was only 1 out…he’s tryin to ground into aanother double play.

John says:

WOW!!! I knew it..now it just stings more

yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Handtius says:

ello fellers. I am on Biz/Vac in Paris, Just got home, checking in on the game, and what do I see, a comeback maybe?

Handtius says:

Fuck, bad timing.

cjc says:

he’s the bad luck guy get him

Handtius says:

actually, they’ve been losing since I left so maybe I’m the good luck charm…or maybe you’re superstitions are stupid as shite. I don’t know, you tell me.

whooboy says:

He’s a hacker. Oh well

bobtaco says:

How many times are they going to blow a game with the tying or winning run on third?

Bill says:

Yep. Mr. clutch does is again. If A-Rod had done what Jeter did 2 games in a row we’d never hear the end of it.

Dela G says:

yep, he gets a reprieve because of the rings

AlexNYC says:

Maybe J-Rod is better than Swisher because he has a ring? Right? hehe

cjc says:

what a fucking tease this team is

Evan says:

*bangs head against wall repeatedly*

BigBlueAL says:

0-3 this week in 1-run games vs the fuckin Nationals and Marlins, 2-4 overall. Sigh.

Ed says:

Why swing at the first pitch after he just walked a guy?

Jobamania says:

maybe francesa will talk about how jeter got robbed of another base hit there

AsianShuutoHeat says:

It hurts more when you’ve tried so hard only to fall flat at the last step…

charlespoet says:

Captain pulls a Cano after watching the previous AB where Lindstrom was alllllll over the place.

Summary, 13 or 14 straight retired, poor defense by Cabrera, bad pitching by Tomko….. so goes another series.

When the hell is this interleague done, it is killing the Yankees.

Zach says:

good job leaving DRob out of your summary

charlespoet says:

Crap, your are correct, those last two runs came on his pitching. Should have been paying more attention. thanks for the error caught.

John says:
Zach says:

and if he backed up melky’s throw hanley wouldnt score

Jobamania says:

When are we gonna move jeter from the leadoff spot?

JobaWockeeZ says:

So every solution to a problem is DFA, bench, changing lineup spot? Really?

Jobamania says:

no, but jeter leading off kills us more times than it helps. He just doesn’t work the count enough to be leading off.

yankees=warriors says:

We avoid seeing him hit into more DPs when he leads off.

Handtius says:

yeah, that 374 obp is horrible.

V says:

There are going to be more men on base later in the lineup than 1st, in general.

Nady Nation says:

He has a .375 OBP. Just b/c he had a rough series doesn’t mean he shouldn’t hit leadoff.

Handtius says:

No no no, just DFA Jeter too. solve every problem.

cjc says:

what does that matter he was the 7th man up that inning

Charlie says:

that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. he’s been very productive out of the leadoff spot, this game is on the poor relief pitching from some scrub (coughbombkocough), and a bad game for coke and Drob who have been very good.

Jobamania says:

jeter was the same guy who lost us the game against the nats by grounding to shortstop.

how often do we have to see groundouts by jeter that just ANNIHILATE rallies

cjc says:

still not sure how moving him out of the leadoff spot changes any of the results in the late innings

Zach says:

62 out of 100 plate appearances he will make an out, the other 38 times he will succeed

V says:

Nady Nation says:

Um, Cano grounded out to short to end the Nats game.

ChrisS says:

Oh well. Gardner provided some excitement.

Good see him back from the headache, too.

yankees=warriors says:

That was expected.

Charlie says:

Pathetic series, once again. We are hitting some rocky times against bad teams. fucking annoying, the yanks better get hot soon. if we can’t beat the bad teams, then what’s gonna happen against the good ones (the Red Sox, anyone?)?

Zach says:

yeah 38-23 against non-Boston teams, guess we cant beat the good teams or the bad teams. just a .622 winning %

John says:

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

This burns…two fames lost on an fucking error!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew says:

Why in the world did Jeter swing on the first pitch? Ugh, what an ugly two weeks it has been in yankee land. Add in a possible DL Stint for CC despite what they are orignally claiming to be only stiffness.

Charlie says:

I definitely blame tomko for the bulk of this loss. let us all pray he is DFAd tommorow.

Zach says:

yeah because Drob was lights out

Charlie says:

Drob has been nothing short of great this season. he had a bad day. how in the world could you complain about him?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Well I’m mildly amused. But D-Rob I believe blew a tie/lead against the Phillies I believe. But yeah he’s one hell of a good pitcher.

Charlie says:

what?? I have to restrain myself from cursing here, but drob is a good pitcher. He throws lots of strikes, has decent stuff, and has a freakin ERA under 2!!! He blew ONE tie against the phillies. Tomko has blown 3 games for us, go look it up. also, how was that amusing??

Zach says:

“throws a lot of strikes”1
10 BB in 14.1 IP

Charlie says:

small sample size, he’s a rookie, he’s 24, he threw a lot of strikes in AAA…yea

(Comments wont nest below this level)
J says:

i bet drob threw “strikes” because triple a hitters couldn’t see his curve well. some major leaguers will lay off that pitch.

he has average control at best.

Tom Zig says:

But Tomko gave up 3 runs on 2 HRs.

charlespoet says:

They can package Berrora with tomko, bring melancon back and at this point, I am not sure who would fill Berrora’s spot. We just need Nady to get healthy, now.

cjc says:

package them together for what a porto potty

Charlie says:

IETC. And that might seriously be more valuable than either of them. Charlespoet, did you actually mean package them for a trade?? Cause that’s impossible. Literally no team would give up ANYthing for those scrubs

charlespoet says:

No package them to DFA. Bring Melancon to replace Tomko and get some experience. I just don’t know off hand who fills the spot for Berroa if they look from within.

Sorry, my sentence was not very clear. Trading them would laughable just for trying.

cjc says:

they won’t te should but they won’t so why waste your time its better spent praing jeter stops hitting groundballs at people or that amybe this defense plays smart baseball

remember when francesa in one of his joba rants was saying how he wants tomko as the 5 guy and joba in the 8th

Bill says:

I think it’s time to bench Jeter for non-performance. Put Johnny at the top of the lineup and Swish 2nd. Bat Pena 9th. Jeter just doesn’t have it anymore. He’s washed up.

Handtius says:

Yeah, I agree… *sarcasm*

Jack says:

Nady Nation says:

Cannot possibly be serious.

Riddering says:

Yeah, have you seen Jeter’s stats this year? Atrocious!

Ed says:

How many times can we leave Brett on third?

yankees=warriors says:

Yeah, it’s getting so frustrating to watch that I would rather see him tagged out stealing home.
At least that will provide some spark and gives us SOME chance of scoring than none.

Charlie says:

maybe he should have stolen home

Pasqua says:

The pitch was a good one to hit, so I can’t go crazy at Jeter swinging at the first pitch; however, I never like to see him go straight pull. His stroke is up-the-middle / opposite field. I suppose the pitch had enough plate to warrant a real go at it, but it just isn’t his game.

Eh, it was in on his hands.

Pasqua says:

Yeah, you’re right. After seeing more replays, it was bearing in on him a bit.

JobaJr says:

Thhhhhhhhhuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yankees lose.

BigBlueAL says:

I remember the good old days when the Yankees were in 1st place. lol

donttradecano says:

Jobamania says:

we should have known that the marlins aren’t a great defensive team and that our bats are pretty cold right now. Gardner had a better chance of scoring on being sent home all along

Tom Zig says:

On a positive note we did hit .500 with RISP today.

Bill says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we just aren’t as good as Boston at the little things- Grit, gut, clutch, heart, hustle, fundamentals.

Boston wins today in the Bottom of the 9th on a clutch HR. We have 2 games in a row where we can win the ballgame late and nothing happens. The season is on the brink of collapse, I just hope Girardi doesn’t completely run us into the ground.

Zach says:

yeah yankees have 0 walk off wins this year and 0 come from behind wins

Dela G says:

i’m pretty sure we have -2 come from behind wins

Riddering says:

Don’t forget–we’ve never had a walk-off home run either.

Pay no attention to the many walk off wins from earlier this season.

J says:

lol the yankees are way above 500 and they’re in the brink of collapse? chill with the hyperbole

Pasqua says:

“Grit, clutch, and heart” do not win baseball games. They are conceptions and not at all tangible components of the game. I will say that hustle and fundamentals DO help win baseball games, but nothing about the Yankees suggests that they consistently lack those qualities. (See: Teixeira; pop-up; Catillo; dropped ball.)

Pasqua says:

/meant, obviously, as a reply to Bill and not J.

YankeeScribe says:

They’re not on the brink of collapse but Boston’s on a roll and Tampa is gaining fast…

Drew says:

+1
We’ve been out gritigutified this past week.

Charlie says:

Hilarious when you listed the little things. Can you define grit and gut for me?? We’ve had a ton of comeback and walk off wins, its just not happening recently. we’re not really close to collapsing, either.

Charlie says:

but i can’t deny that girardi sucks. leave tomko in to blow the lead and then serve up another one? come on joe.

Tom Zig says:

Grit, gut, clutch, heart, hustle, fundamentals…

Peter Gammons, is that you?

Dela G says:

well that truly sucked

BigBlueAL says:

Well, at least I chose the right game to attend this weekend since I went to the game on Friday!!

Jobamania says:

its still inexcusable to swing at the first pitch in a game ending situation like that. Theres a man on 3rd! 2 outs, and the closer is known for being wild and he walked the man in front of you. what the hell is going on in your mind to swing on the first fucking pitch and heat a weak grounder

Jobamania says:

Pasqua says:

One thought: did anybody notice that, on Gardner’s triple, the cut-off man (Uggla, I believe) made absolutely no turn to home when he took the throw from the outfield? He leisurely lollipopped it to 2B, as if there was no chance Gardner would be turning toward home.

I’d love to see the timing of the play, because if Gardner had turned for home, I think he could have made it based on Uggla’s lax play. On the flipside, I guess it’s possible that Gardner had already stopped and someone had relayed that info to Uggla.

Accent Shallow says:

I’d imagine it’s the latter. I think if Gardner had a shot at scoring, he’d have been sent.

Jobamania says:

the one time i wish we had windmill meacham

J says:

Gardner since May 1st

333/425/506

Gardy isn’t a future batting champ and isn’t slugging 500 for the rest of the season, but he hasn’t been lucky (check BABIP), doesnt strike out much, gets a lot of walks, and steal bases. He’s been playing all star caliber baseball for nearly 2 months minus injures.

Yeah, I think he should be taking ABs from Melky right now.

Jobamania says:

1. “all star caliber baseball” are you serious? just unreal that you can use the word allstar with brett gardner.

2. he had his chance in the beginning of the season and he was just putrid. Theres no knowing if he can even have a .310obp as a full time player. He’s doing well as a bench player, but thats it

BigBlueAL says:

Actually his OBP for the season is over .340.

Jobamania says:

yeah he’s performed since going to the bench, but we all know how he was when he was our starting center fielder, just putrid.

J says:

stats since may 1st as a starter plus game where he replaced melky when he injured his shoulder

333/425/524

Melky since May 1:

.268/.321/.394

That’s why, when neither CF is the future of the organization, you play who’s hot. Gardner right now is very hot and Melky’s been cold since hitting the wall in Texas.

And if a guy hit .333/.425/.506 for a long time, he’d be AS caliber.

J says:

just like swisher had a bad month of may after the HBP to his wrist, I wouldn’t be surprised if Melky’s going through the same funk. He’s looked like a much better player than last year.

Tony says:

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results

And if a guy hit .333/.425/.506 for a long time, he’d be AS MVP caliber, especially out in CF.

See: Beltran, Carlos.

J says:

im just saying his performance and results have been all star caliber.

i mean phil hughes should say in the BP forever since he sucked this year at starting right?
and Joba should stay in the BP since his fastballs been not as electric?

chill out man.

Bill says:

We basically have the same record as last year at this time. Except we have CC, Teixera, and Burnett instead of Rasner, Giambi, Ponson. Same exact record with 3 vast improvements. That can only leave one person to blame- Manager Joe Girardi.

Charlie says:

he gets some blame, but definitely not all of it.

BigBlueAL says:

There is no way the Yankees were 38-31 last year after 69 games. Were they????

Zach says:

Zach says:

Also no around for the first month, and hes now batting what .220? Blame Joe
Tex slumped for the first month, blame Joe
Mariano already matched his BS from last year, blame Joe for that too
Wang blew up, blame Joe for that too
AJ blew up twice against Boston, blame Joe for that too
Bruney lied and said he was healthy, blame Torre

Zach says:

Charlie says:

The pen is managed poorly and Tomko is used in a big spot? Blame Joe
Our chances of winning are frequently killed by use of small ball by the team’s best hitters? Blame Joe
I gotta go, but there are others, too. Some things can be blamed on Girardi

Accent Shallow says:

Wait, the 5th inning is a big spot?

Tomko is the closest thing the team has to a second long man, since Phil Hughes is yoked to Wang.

charlespoet says:

No one should be really surprised. If you go back to 2006, yankees did better against the NL but lost 2 of 3 to the nationals that year.

In 2007, were swept by Colorado and then lost 2/3 to the Giants – both teams should have one 1 game against the Yankees at best

In 2008, lost 2/3 to the Reds at Yankee stadium and then lost 2/3 to Pittsburgh.

In 2009, lost 2/3 to the nationals at Yankee stadium and now 2/3 to the Marlins.

Maybe they play to the level of their competition which would mean they will perform better over the next 6 games. Right now they are 38 – 30. I predict they will take 2/3 from both the Mets and Braves. Then 2/3 from Seattle, 3/4 from Toronto before heading to Minny and LA. That would make them 47-36….AND Boston has 9 straight on the road where they do not play well.

Accent Shallow says:

What’s worse than a loss followed by an off day?

Two losses followed by an off day?

Drew says:

Took the words right out of my mouth. lol

Charlie says:

2 series losses to bad teams followed by an off day with your ace injured

Pasqua says:

Root canal with no anesthesia.

Oh, that was rhetorical!

I hate that there’s no game tomorrow, too.

Tony says:

Gardner > Melky
