  1. JobaWockeeZ says:

If we only scored 1/4th of the runners on base!!! It’s aggravating.

  2. A.D. says:

The offense’s lack of ability to drive runners in is mind boggling.

  3. Quikksand says:

Why is this team so damn piss-poor with R.I.S.P. day after day?????????

  4. Ivan says:

The yanks really should smacking Hanson around by now.

  5. The Fallen Phoenix says:

All Hanson really wants is a Wang with hard stuff, balls on the ground. But he hasn’t gotten that yet.

  6. Yankee1010 says:

The Yanks’ goal is to leave 20 runners on base tonight, right?

  7. Greg says:

DID YOU SEE JETER PASS THE BATON INSTEAD OF DRIVING THOSE RUNS IN? HE OUGHT TO BE BENCHED AND SWISH SHOULD HAVE BUNTED WITH THERE WITH THE BASES LOADED!!!!! SMALL BALL IS THE WAY TO GO WITH THE HIGHEST OPS IN THE LEAGUE AND MEDIOCRE PITCHING, YES SIR! GIRARDI IS A MANAGERIAL MASTERMIND.

  8. Nick Baratta says:

dang people chill out…you all sound like you should be on yankee suicide watch…

yanks are currently 4th in the AL in BA and 2nd in the AL in runs scored

their pitching staff is currently 11th in the AL with 1 4.65 era…
however over the last 30 days the team is 5th in the AL with a 3.77 era…

bruney is back which is a tremendous help in the 8th inning and marte is on his way back

don’t forget we do currently lead the wildcard and have the 2nd best record in the AL

you people are turning into the idiots that run around on the yankees forum…heck half you probably are those idiots…you see the game and you see the problems, but good baseball players fail 7 times out of 10…

o yea and hanson’s at 73 pitches so that’ll probably mean 4 innings from a sub par braves bullpen…

    • Quikksand says:

but it would be appreciative if the Yankees drove in half the base runners they left on base.

      • Nick Baratta says:

HALF…LOL if they did that they would have the greatest offense of all time by far and away about a .010 increase in their BA would be all i would be asking for that would be a lot more runs

  9. Ashish Skaria says:

Don’t forget that CMW sucks and if Hughes was in this position, the game would probably be scoreless.

  10. Much love for Kelly Johnson’s walk up music.

  11. charlespoet says:

    For Mike Axisa and tommyjohn

Ok, I understand the team part, but each time there is a man on base and that runner is not advanced via hit(walks don’t count) each it counts as a LOB on the personal level.

    Question
What is the rule regarding left on base? How can a team have a total LOB greater than the number of baserunners they had during the game? For example in tonight’s opening day game between the A’s and Yanks, Oakland only had 8 hits and 0 walks, but still had a total of 14 LOB? How is this possible?

    Here’s how it works…

Joe comes up with one out and two people on. He strikes out, leaving two people on base. Then Bill comes up with the same two people on base. He hits a weak fly ball ending the inning – again leaving two guys on base.

So, the players just left four people on base in an inning, even though only two people got on!

Typically, for the team stat, they only count the people on base at the end of the inning, but for individuals, they count everyone. Since this isn’t an official stat, different people add it in different ways.

    Hope this helps!

Why bunt Wang there? Why not have Gardner steal and then give Wang a chance to put the ball in play.

    You cannot be serious.

Why the hell would he not be serious?? I don’t get that at all, can you tell me why that wouldn’t have been a good idea? What tsjc said here makes no sense at all

    • The Fallen Phoenix says:

      1. Gardner can get thrown out. You advance 0 runners, and you still have Wang at the plate, 2 outs.

      2. Gardner can successfully steal, and Chien-Ming Wang can ground out, but Melky can get thrown out at the plate. He’s not exactly swift.

      • Charlie says:

Unlikely that gardner would get thrown out the way he runs, and your second point is just dumb. The same thing could happen on any groundout with a runner on third & less than 2 outs. You can’t expect melky to get thrown out at the plate and use that as a reason to not have gardner steal there.

    • You cannot be serious in that you cannot expect Wang to hit a groundball.

He’s an AL pitcher. A struggling AL pitcher. He’s up there to either bunt or strike out.

He’s not going to swing away. He’s not going to try to hit a grounder.

      • Charlie says:

Can you kindly tell me what Wang did in his first at bat???????

        • Charlie says:

You know what, I’ll tell you. HE GROUNDED OUT! HE SWUNG THE BAT AND HE HIT A GROUNDER?

          • A grounder that WOULDN’T HAVE SCORED THE RUN FROM THIRD BASE, BECAUSE IT WAS SO WEAK THE FIELDER WOULD HAVE GONE HOME WITH THE PITCH.

Wang swinging has a tiny, tiny chance of scoring a run and a large chance of him ending up on first base, which would mean runners on first and third, the exact same situation he was bunting in, except with an extra out and Gardner at first replaced with Wang at first.

It’s risk aversion. No manager would have eschewed the bunt there, none of them. Because the overwhelming preponderance of outcomes are moot or bad. Better to just move the runner over and get your pitcher back in the safety of the dugout.

          • You think you’re onto some profound error in Girardi’s reasoning, but you’re not. You’re onto nothing.

            • Charlie says:

I am onto something, cause gardner stealing and wang swinging would have given us a better chance at scoring.

        • He swung weakly. Because there was no benefit to him bunting.

In a situation where there is a benefit to him bunting, no matter how small, he’s going to bunt, because his manager rightly wants to get him out of the batters box as soon as possible.

Seriously, you’re asking for the moon if you want a major league manager to ask CMW to try intentionally to hit the ball hard enough to drive in a run, and it’s moot there, because if he was swinging away, Cox would draw the infield in and come home with the pitch. And then we’d have Wang on the bases at first, which we don’t want.

          It’s moot.

  13. ansky says:

    the RISP dives again.
    “bats are afraid”

  14. OmgZombies! says:

Ugh this Wang experiment needs to stop.

  15. Professor Oak says:

Does anyone (Girardi, Hitting Coach, other teammates) tell these guys NOT TO SWING at the FIRST PITCH? I feel there’s a lack of communication going on… do these players look at the 3rd base coach for signals at the plate like in little league games?

    • Drew says:

They say it all the time. “Hey Swish, Don’t swing at a pitch you think you can hit.”

    • Moshe Mandel says:

      Why would they do that?

    • The Fallen Phoenix says:

There is nothing implicitly wrong with swinging at the first pitch, provided it’s a good pitch to hit. Problem is, you can’t ex post facto judge whether the pitch was good to hit or not based on the outcome, which is what people usually do, because a successful outcome in baseball is almost *always* the less-frequently occurring outcome.

  16. Accent Shallow says:

Gotta love Jeff Francoeur. At least Hanson doesn’t appear to be long for this game — if they have good at bats, he might not finished the 5th. He’s almost certainly not getting through the 6th unless the Yankees give it to him.

  17. Tom Zig says:

Oddly enough we are hitting .264 with RISP on the year.

  18. Dela G says:

    let’s go YANKEES!

  19. Tank the Frank says:

Alot of those pitches were up in that inning but seemed to have better movement.

  20. Dela G says:

wang looks great. Even though the defense seems to collapse when he pitches, he is showing poise and confidence on the mound, just keeping the ball down. He has thrown a zillion strikes, so it will help him in the long run. It looks like he’s on his way to getting back.

  21. dkidd says:

    time to score some runs

  22. clapton100 says:

It’s been a full season and a half of not hitting wth RISP

Overall scoring stats are a bit misleading because the Yankees are prone to pile on from time to time (Santana game)

This may be a slump, but it’s not far off from what this team is

These guys hit like players on a beer league softball game

Swinging for the fences no matter what the situation

When they are not hitting home runs, they rarely win

The only way they “snap out of it” is when they start hitting home runs

  23. Nick Baratta says:

yanks are 7th in the majors in runs scored with risp and 15th in the majors for batting avg with risp

not great not bad…but average…obviously there’s some loopholes in the stats as it doesn’t account for situational hitting

  24. Professor Oak says:

I have a bad feeling about this inning with Arod, Cano and Posada up…

  25. John says:

I predict we will have the lead in this game!!!!!!!!

  26. Mike Axisa says:

Michael Kay just took a verbal shit on the Colorado school system.

  27. BigBlueAL says:

WTF did Arod just swing at.

  28. That first swing from Alex made me die a little inside.

  29. Accent Shallow says:

I’m really not enjoying watching Hanson work. The breaking balls are pretty nasty, but I don’t like how he short-arms the ball in his delivery. Looks ugly.

  30. Tank the Frank says:

I hope this is as bad as it gets for A-Rod.

  31. John says:

How in fuck was that strike one to Alex?????

  32. Tony says:

Honestly, I think Wang has pitched a good game so far. Sometimes you gotta tip your cap to the opposing hitter. McCann and Anderson hit two good pitches. I haven’t seen Wang miss badly, as he had in some previous starts. His pitch count is down, his pitches are down, the slider looks better than I’ve seen in awhile, and he’s even mixed in a change in there. The velocity looks good. It’s not an easy lineup for Wang either – those lefties from 3-6 make it tough.

I’m not trying to sugarcoating it. Wang, as calm as he is, still seems to lose a bit of focus/confidence when a runner gets on. He still needs to improve that slider, because when his sinker is only good, and not great, he’ll struggle without that 2nd pitch.

I think he’s on his way back … but let’s see how the rest of the game goes. I think, if the Yankee bats can get going, that Wang may be able to stick through 6 or 7, which would be a nice thing for the Yankees staff.

    • McCann and Anderson hit two good pitches.

      Yep, McCann especially.

    • Accent Shallow says:

I don’t know about focus and confidence, but even Good Wang is markedly worse with runners on. I think you can trace it to the fact that he has a very deceptive windup that isn’t as effective from the stretch, since he can’t do the long pause.

      • Tony says:

Just wanted to say I don’t disagree with anything there on the delivery issues overall. I agree that he is so used to his normal windup that when he is out of the stretch, things are off. For me, that’s partly a focus issue, but it’s arguable.

  33. Professor Oak says:

Which team is the worst statistically with RISP in all of MLB?

  34. dan says:

this is worst a-rod has ever looked, he is an automatic out

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Uhh ever recall that slump he had in 2006? He still managed to pull through and put up decent numbers in the end.

      • The Fallen Phoenix says:

Remember when Jeter went 0 for April? I’m pretty sure he didn’t get booed off the plate every time he made an out then, though.

  35. Jake H says:

I’m just watching the minors as of right now.

  36. Mike Axisa says:

Chance are, that’s a homer in the Bronx.

  37. Reggie C. says:

Hanson’s first quality start is gonna come off us. Wonderful.

  38. Andrae says:

OKAY, i just bought mlb tv, the monthly one, but its telling me some crap about blackout restrictions is there anyway to get around this? because this would defeat the entire purpose of me spending money on this; to watch yankees games. can anyone help

    • Tony says:

If you live within the viewing area, you aren’t going to be able to watch the game. I don’t think there’s any way around it, unless you get it from some other site.

    • Dela G says:

you cannot watch yankees games if you live in the local areas they are playing on tv.

so you cannot watch them if you live in NY, some of NJ, and in the ATL(tonight at least)

    • Moshe Mandel says:

You can go through proxy servers, but it is very inconsistent. Probably out of luck.

  39. handtius says:

This dude is getting strike calls in the fricken batters box.

  40. Reggie C. says:

    Hanson owns Posada.

  41. Tommy Hanson’s curveball has mind control over Jorge.

  42. Yankee1010 says:

Well, the bright side is that they only left 1 runner on base that inning.

  43. John says:

    Jorge=Ugly today

  44. charlespoet says:

This team is just awful right now offensively. Posada looks like he is channeling ARod.

  45. Tank the Frank says:

Is it possible to strike out on the same pitch 3 consecutive times? Does he not remember he struck out on a curveball the last two times up… and that he’s proooooobably going to throw you one there.

  46. dkidd says:

    tough day for jorge

  47. dan says:

7 straight games against sub .500 teams and were gonna be 2-5, embarrising

  48. Dorian says:

My day is complete. Bread, Water, and Jesus with an RBI single.

    • Brian says:

62 pitches in 5. Vintage Wang!
All thanks to J.J. ‘Putz’ Wang in the cradle.

Uh, strike that from the record.

  49. Jim says:

How many losses before we stop sending Wang out? 10?

    • John says:

      seriously?

      • Charlie says:

i don’t care how “good” he looked tonight, he gave up 3 runs and counting in not even 5 innings yet. Hughes starting gives us a much better chance at winning

        • JobaWockeeZ says:

And again if the offense pulled through people would STFU about Wang already.
Apparently when it comes to CMW people would rather have a sucky one to a good one. That is truly mind boggling.

        • Tony says:

Really? 5 innings and 3 runs from Wang and you are saying Hughes gives a better chance to win? I mean, Hughes has only gone more than 5 twice this year.

Look, I like Hughes, but he’s still inconsistent. It’s likely to be that way for the whole year. The Yankees need to see if Wang can gain his form because they need to find a guy to consistently eat innings.

        • Hughes starting gives us a much better chance at winning

          He does.

Fixing Wang gives us a better chance of winning in October, though.

  50. AsianShuutoHeat says:

REGARDLESS of how this game plays out, I bet all the so called Yankees “fans” are going to complain about CMW’s performance tonight.

    • Tank the Frank says:

      See above.

Because it’s not as if that fat ole zero in the Yankees score column is making any difference.

    • Charlie says:

      are you asian?

      • AsianShuutoHeat says:

        Father is half-German/Chinese.
        Mother is Chinese/Japanese.

        YEP.

          • AsianShuutoHeat says:

I am what everyone calls “double jointed”, my parents never allowed me to contend in school sports (sucks).

Started to play with a few college buddies a few years back and I’ve been pitching on my friend’s rec-team.

And yes I can pitch, albeit I’m not that good… but it gets by against these rec-leaguers. Although I’m off the team this current summer due to a series of injuries to my right leg/ankle.

and yes I am currently sweating.

    • John says:

      plenty already have

  51. Charlie says:

God this team FUCKING SUCKS. It’s impossible to deny at this point. And now all the crazy “optimists” tell me that i’m not a real yankee fan, but trust me, I am. That’s why its so hard to watch.

  52. Drew says:

    Cubans are good at baseball.

  53. dkidd says:

that play by cano was extremely un-dominican

  54. Dorian says:

Good job by Wanger so far. No offense to speak of.

  55. Wow, I thought that was gone.

  56. Tony says:

Ugh, Escobar with that bloop hit. Wang’s gotta buckle down. If he gets through this inning unscathed, that’s gonna be a very good sign.

Chipper with a towering … phew, it got caught.

  57. LiveFromNewYork says:

I’ve been coming to this blog for a couple of years now but I can’t take the game threads anymore. Luckily these people that have nothing to add except how much everything/everyone sucks don’t come around in non-game threads.

  58. Hey, um, runs please?

  59. jr says:

Team looks lost at the plate

  60. Tony says:

Good job with the pitch call … they finally switched up and went inside on McCann.

  61. Dorian says:

I wish I could write this in small print. the yankees are currently in the playoffs ssssshhhhhhhhhhhh don’t tell anybody.

  62. Drew says:

    That kid sucks!

  63. John says:

Everything went downhill after that Swisha bunt

  64. Tank the Frank says:

Bad luck sometimes plays a part. A-Rod, Swish and Melky have all hit one on the screws right at someone. Those are the only ones I remember though…

  65. Jackson says:

I’m kind of feeling a vintage Wang 3 runs in 8 innings line. Just have to score some runs on the bullpen, since Hanson not pitching into the 7th.

Unless of course pinch hit for Wang this inning, then I’ll look like an idiot.

  66. Brett ripped that ball.

    Come through here, Hideki.

  67. Dela G says:

    GRIT GUTNER!

  68. John says:

im tired of this ump giving Tommy that outside call

  69. Tony says:

I don’t understand this call – have Wang sacrifice and save Matsui for a higher leverage situation later. They need to work Wang longer – he pitched a good outing, but still. That said, looks like Wang’s safe for another start.

  70. Drew says:

I wanted him to come back out but… come on Dek!

    • Drew says:

On second thought. Wang needs more pitches, he’s been getting tired around 80, he needs to be stretched out more.

  71. John says:

Damnit ! Wang had only 62 pitches

  72. charlespoet says:

Yankees rank in Batting Average over the past 5 years with RISP.
    08: 10

    07: 2

    06: 5

    05: 7

    04: 7

    03: 10

    2009 – Yankees rank 2nd in AL in GIDP = 26 BA = .264 (9th AL); OBP = .363 (6th AL)

Of 14 teams in the AL, these stats prove exactly why the Yankees are average with RISP and struggling, these are average numbers.

  73. Accent Shallow says:

Wang’s at 62 pitches. Seems a little early to pull him, no?

    • charlespoet says:

Not if you want them to ANY chance to score a run, which clearly as a team, they are frightened to do.

    • Dela G says:

well i think they wanted to see if they could get instant offense with matsui instead of an auto out. NL baseball at its finest…

      • charlespoet says:

probably. At this point, with the way they are hitting, not sure it will make much of a difference offensively. From a defensive perspective, gives Hughes more innings.

      • Yankee1010 says:

But somehow, this is how baseball “should” be played. Yep, let’s have someone who has no business hitting stand in there with a bat as a free out. Ugh. I hate the NL.

    • Tony says:

i don’t agree with the move, but trying to make a reasoning for Eiland/Girardi –

It’s a muggy day down there, Wang has pitched well through 5. Anderson and Kotchman both have seen Wang more than the other Braves, and their lefty bats/hitting style perhaps made Girardi worried that Wang would struggle?

      Eh …

  74. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Girardi should send Wang to the mound next inning. See if Bobby Cox notices that he wasn’t at the plate.

Worst case scenario, they play the rest of the game under protest.

  75. Jackson says:

As its been said many times in this thread already, National League baseball is terrible. Wang is pitching well, 62 pitches through 5 and he’s taken out for a pinch hitter. I hate it.

  76. John says:

if Matsui doesn’t get on it’ll be a waste

  77. FC says:

Eh, do you really want Wang running the bases if he makes contact? I realize its early to pull him, but your bullpen is rested and why risk Wang batting.

  78. Drew says:

It’s telling that with 3.2 innings left in the game we pull our starter for a PH.

  79. Charlie says:

Why the fuck would you PH with Matsui??? Wang threw 62 fuckin pitches!!! If he’s gonna pitch, let the guy pitch you dumbass manager.

    • Jackson says:

It has nothing to do with the pitcher, he’s trying to put runs on the board which they’ve had a hard time doing lately. Is it a bit early and slight panicky? Yes, but it’s in no way an indictment of Wang’s performance.

  80. John says:

Can the ump please calling that outside pitch for a strike!!!!

  81. Jobamania says:

this is the exact reason why our bullpen has been so bad at times. Does joe girardi not understand what bullpen roles are? He has no fucking idea. He claims hughes is his high leverage guy and he’s warming up for the 6th? How can a bullpen be successful when no one has a fucking CLUE when they will be called in to pitch?

Aceves rangers from 2nd inning to 8th inning
Hughes is supposed to be a 7th-8th inning guy, and he basically only pitches on Wang days, and only like 2 innings at that.

    Makes no fucking sense.

  82. handtius says:

that is a bad move pinch hitting for wang…pitch count at 62?

  83. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

i love gardner hes a very good weapon on are team.

  84. Jersey says:

Gardy on the bathpaths: you can’t stop him, you can only contain him!

  85. Tying run at the plate. Let’s fucking go Yankees.

  86. Tank the Frank says:

Sets up the ooooooooole’ DP ball for the Cap!

  87. Dela G says:

nice job hideki with the walk

  88. Charlie says:

We fucking HAVE to score here

  89. Dela G says:

great job by the yankees to get the kid out early. Moylan is good, so lets hope we can get to him. I can’t remember if Moylan is their submariner, but i saw him a few games ago on mlb.tv. Let’s hope we can get to him.

  90. The cable/FiOS ads have become annoying now.

  91. John says:

Jinxes be damned…Jeter FINALLY comes through here (he has to, it’s like his 5th big spot in the past 3 games)

  92. Charlie says:

the setup/closers on the braves are ridiculously good. if we’re still losing when we see gonzalez/soriano, it’ll be real tough

  93. Dorian says:

How sad am I? I don’t even really care we are losing. I just want to see THE GREAT PHIL HUGHES.

  94. Quikksand says:

    come on yanks

  95. Tony says:

There goes the quality start for Hanson …

C’mon score 4 runs for Wang now …

    ____________

On a side note, here’s hoping the heat helps Wang, well, heat up a bit. Here’s hoping for a hot day next Sunday.

  96. AsianShuutoHeat says:

Is Hanson drunk? lol I swear it looks like they just fished him out of a gigantic vat of rum…

  97. Accent Shallow says:

I am terrified. Heavy ground ball pitcher, 1st and 2nd, 1 out, Jeter up. Hoping for a short line drive to right.

  98. Let’s go, Derek. Gotta bring at least one home here.

And “strike” one was inside, IMO.

  99. Tank the Frank says:

    Re: Wang being taken out

Right now it’s all about winning games. The Yankees needed a PH there with the way the offense is going. A big reason they have Hughes in the pen is b/c he was stretched out enough that he could be a backup should Wang shit the bed again. I also think Girardi wants to again get Hughes stretched out and pitch 2 innings… which he has yet to do.

  100. ARX says:

    ……………

  101. Yankee1010 says:

    Nope. Why score?

  102. Mike Axisa says:

    Ooooooooooooooooof course.

  103. BigBlueAL says:

    Didnt see that coming.

  104. Derek Jeter has made a career of hitting outside pitches to the right side. So he decides to try and pull one and bangs into another DP. Awesome.

  105. Mike Pop says:

    That was ruff.

  106. Jobamania says:

captain double play to the rescue

  107. dkidd says:

i grew up watching jim “6-4-3″ rice but i’ve never seen anyone like jeter

  108. Dela G says:

    unelieveable

    captain double play

  109. Quikksand says:

Captain Double play does it again.

  110. Tank the Frank says:

    Oh. My. God.

  111. charlespoet says:

Say hello to 3rd place. Another GIDP. At least they will lead the league in something.

  112. Charlie says:

I’m really not liking hughes the reliever even though he’s been lights out. the guy is a starter and needs to build his innings up. Either trust wang and send hughes to scranton or replace wanger with hughes in the rotation, but this hughes bullpen bull shit has gotta end soon

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

He’ll likely be in the rotation after Joba get’s shut down. They’re possibly shutting down Hughes now to use his innings after Joba gets shut down. Saves innings for later I suppose if he’s in the pen. But yeah he won’t be in the bullpen forever.

    • Tony says:

I don’t disagree, I think Hughes should be at AAA. That said, I think they’ll keep it this way for the forseeable future. Wang looked good today, and with the rotation not exactly crisp, and the pen needing depth, I think Girardi sticks with this. If the rotation gets on a roll, who knows, maybe they change their mind.

  113. HEY YANKEE FANS, says:

    i hate baseball

  114. DGeezy says:

it seems like every time gardner steals a base for us lately, he never crosses home plate bc we’re always blowing it.

    • Tank the Frank says:

Right on. The other day with one out.. he stole 2nd… then he stole 3rd… but we stranded him there.

  115. Charlie says:

    FUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK THIS TEAM!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!

  116. Brazilian Yankee says:

I know we are not this bad…

  117. Yankees Brawl says:

Well Wang did his job. this offence is anemic.

  118. JobaWockeeZ says:

Now this is getting to the point of ridiculous. It’s like the baseball gods just take all the hitting powers of the Yankees with RISP.

  119. John says:

    fukin Jeter

  120. Ivan says:

Jeter is just annoying the fuck outta me with the DP’s

  121. Drew says:

We can’t seem to shake this stank on the ol’ hang low.

  122. Jersey says:

    Could have been worse.

  123. Jobamania says:

Its also great when we’re trying to stretch out wang and we take him out at 62 pitches
    excellent management

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

They need offense, the bullpen has shown they can hold it lately. Take advantage of the opportunities. Though, I really wanted to see Wang go further.

  124. Charlie says:

joel zumaya just threw 101 according to gameday. i don’t get how anyone could possibly hit him

    • Charlie says:

actually, he just hit 103 a few batters ago

    • Jobamania says:

easy when you just sit on a fastball

he has a change but not nearly as good
      micah just bombed off him

      • Charlie says:

“Easy when you just sit on a fastball” Dela G’s explanation was reasonable, but its just retarded when you say it’s “easy” to hit a 103 mph fastball. I would love to see you do it.

    • Dela G says:

just because you throw 100+ doesn’t make you unhittable. He throws a flat fastball, which is why people can hit him. Randy Johnson and nolan ryan threw 100+ with a shitload of movement, which is why no one could hit them

    • joel zumaya just threw 101 according to gameday. i don’t get how anyone could possibly hit him

Armando Benitez and Kyle Farnsworth say hello.

  125. BigBlueAL says:

Shit, Braves broadcast just had a Hughes fastball at 96 mph.

  126. RunnerS122 says:

I told the person next to me that I would bet 20 dollars that Jeter would GIDP when he came to bat.

  127. Wolf Williams says:

But remember, everyone…… there’s nothing wrong with any of this. It’s just baseball. Tomorrow’s another day. Next inning is another inning. Next at bat is another at bat. The next pitch is all we need to think about. There are ups and downs. Shit happens. It’s no one’s fault. These guys are trying. Cut them some slack. There’ll be days (even weeks…. months?) like this. Don’t panic. We’re really, really… REALLY!… a good team. You’ll see.

    We’ll all see.

    It’s just baseball. It’s just baseball. It’s just baseball……

    • Jobamania says:

how long can we keep saying theres always tomorrow?

We’re getting embarrassed by these weak NL teams. Not to mention our 0-8 against boston, losing record to philly, and probably tampa(not sure about this one)

    • The Yankees are currently leading the Wild Card race. Did you know that?

  128. John says:

    Phil hit 96

  129. Dorian says:

“His curveball has more snap to it” Come on Kay even for you that’s a bit of a reach. Oh yeah did anyone else hear Fatcessa say today that Nolan Ryan wasn’t a great pitcher?

  130. charlespoet says:

Do you think the Yankees could score with bases loaded zero outs and a wild pitch?

    I am guessing no.

  131. Mac says:

    Phranchise.

  132. Accent Shallow says:

Gameday has multiple 96s from Hughes against Kotchman. (Well, 95.6 and 95.8. Whatever. Remember when people were afraid he’d never break 90?)

Still not totally crazy about yanking Wang early. Yeah, they need offense, but they have to get Wang right, and another inning or two could go a long way towards that end. 62 pitches is nothing.

  133. Jason Joker says:

why can’t hughes get in rotation! he throwing well. Hope they dont make the wrong decision with him too.

  134. Reggie C. says:

    hughes = overpowering

    never thought i’d say that.
