Dorian says:

How many of you want Penny Lane?

Salty Buggah says:

Arman Tamzarian says:

What goes through Jerry Manuel’s mind when trotting out to the pitchers mound to bring in a reliever?

Zach says:
Salty Buggah says:

DreDog says:

“Do you really want to hurt me.
Do you really want to make me cry.”

GG says:

He’s done a great job for what he’s playing with

Drew says:

DreDog says:

Joey H. says:

Did they say if Sabathia is done or not?

Joey H. says:

He is at 89 and I’d love to see what I call the ” Bear Roar” from CC.

Drew says:
Joey H. says:

I’m looking at 89-61S bro.

Zach says:

Drew says:

it’s 99-67 i reckon

Zach says:
Joey H. says:

Sorry you guys are correct. I stand corrected. My fantasy thing failed me.

LiveFromNewYork says:

They’re gonna balk a run in.

Teix is the man says:

Pah-nell is da mets’ joba

TurnTwo says:

with fielding like that, there is no way ARod was out with Kate late last night. he obviously learned his lesson.

TurnTwo says:

oops, not meant to be a response here. oh well.

Dorian says:

I definitely do Kate Hudson. Nice catch A-Rod.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I think Kate has issues with her choice of men.

JP says:

Who has more upside, Gardner or Melky? Melky is a whisker younger, I think, but Brett has less MLB experience. Which matters more?

I think neither one of them has much upside, to be honest. But, I guess Gardner has a little more because of his on base skills, speed, and defense.

But I thought Bobby Parnell was the new 8th inning guy who’s untouchable?!?!?

Joey H. says:

So much for that huh?

JP says:

Mets TV broadcasters: “Gardner leads AL rookies in BA, OBP, Runs, and SB”

In the words of the late great Carnac: “I did not know that.”

Joey H. says:
Dorian says:

Teix is the man says:

Get me pah-cellos stats!

Zach says:

he loves porcello, even though he goes 5.2 on average

I love how he apparently said no one knew who Porcello was coming into this season.

Zach says:

i believe the quote is: YOU NEVER HEARD OF HIM

Haha, oh ignorance. I’m actually very impressed by Porcello’s showing this year. I thought, though, he’d be more of a strikeout guy, but I guess not.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Zach says:

Always heard he was a sinkerballer so I never really expected high Ks, but for the money they gave him I guess you’d expect a high K guy rather then a Wang/Pelfry

I always heard about the good curveball.

Drew says:

CUZ WE WAS GAGA OVAH JOBBER

Teix is the man says:

I love that line! he sounds like a gremlin!

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Teix is the man says:

I know…am I the only one sensing Francesa’s hypocrisy when it comes to Joba? When another young pitcher throws 5 innings its cool, but when Joba does it there’s no ice in his diet coke?

Dorian says:

And I’ll teach Alex a lesson

Salty Buggah says:

If he keeps it up, he has a really good shot but I wonder if media bias will keep it away from him.

Zach says:

Porcello should win it, unless they shut him down in August due to innings

Cahill’s in the conversation. He’s been tremendous of late, 3.15 ERA since May 1st.

Zach says:

True, but if A’s finish last and Tigers win the division or get 85+ wins I think it’ll go to Porcello. But its still more then half the season to go, their numbers could blow up anytime

I keep forgetting he still qualifies as a rookie.

Salty Buggah says:

LeBron and Shaq wearing 23 and 33…like Jordan and Pippen

Dela G says:

Teix is the man says:

I wipe my own ass….

Joey H. says:

Good now Mo can get a save chance. Tomko is in.

Dorian says:

Does Gardy still qualify as a Rook?

I say it every night and I will continue to say it–Rodriguez’s arm is incredible.

Dela G says:

i still think he is a top 5 SHORTSTOP if he decided to go back to it today

That’s a bold statement.

Dela G says:

He still has great range and only Hanley ramirez is better at the moment for all around game.

He definitely does not have great range anymore. I think he’d be a below average to average SS in terms of range.

Drew says:

I think he could drop 15- 20lbs easy and get his “mobility” back.

Dela G says:

A ROD IS BACK BABY!

James A. says:

No lead is Tomko proof

Drew says:

Wait, so Al is better than D-Wright? Huh.

Teix is the man says:

A-Rod doesn’t look 43 tonight @ 3rd

James A. says:

He must read Buster Olney’s blog

putt says:

I hope he’s framed it and posted it in his locker.

putt says:

ARod looks great tonight!

putt says:

And he’s playing pretty well, too.

Drew says:

Did we ever find out how much payola we got for Veras?

Dela G says:
Salty Buggah says:

its more than that

Dela G says:

no its not, it was 20gs

Salty Buggah says:

cash said it was more than 20000 i thought

LiveFromNewYork says:

I think we had to give them that much to take him.

Drew says:

20 g’s plus a ‘02 Civic.

Zach says:

so this is david murphy mets fans were drooling over?

Dela G says:

Tomko was effective?

HELL YEAH!

Teix is the man says:

Watch out Bahstan, here we come =)

Dorian says:

Myyyyy has the mood changed around here.

Brazilian Yankee says:

Now if only we could get Bruney to pitch the 9th, finish them off, do a fist pump and then point to the sky this would be a perfect game.

LiveFromNewYork says:

JP says:

Gardy plays 120 games, hits .290/.370/.400, 80 runs, with a bunch of steals…

Porcello goes 12-8, 4.15 ERA, 148 IP

Does Gardy have a chance at ROY?

Zach says:

Gardner would win that cause if he gets on base that much he’d get 40-50 steals.

But doubt the numbers will end like that

JP says:

I think the anti-Yankee thing would do him in…and you’re right, that’s a rosy projection for Gardy. But it could happen.

Teix is the man says:

david cone, i think ur great, but STFU!

LiveFromNewYork says:

srsly. I like Cone until this comes around.

The Yankees don’t just need Joba in the rotation now, David. They need him in the rotation later as well.

Zach says:

How the hell does Joba to the bullpen discussion during a game with CC and Tomko pitch and yankees winning 7-1?

Hughes has nothing to do with Joba not going to the pen, Bruney getting healthy and Coke/Drob improving puts that talk to rest

LiveFromNewYork says:

He’s a kid and he seems to be getting better.

Really? How weird Michael.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Now steal home Brett

Zach says:

Gardner 5 hit game, congrats

JobaWockeeZ says:

Brett Gardner is completely godly tonight.

Dela G says:

GRIT GUTNER WITH 5 HITS

HOLY SHEET!

VO says:

That’s it I gotta get my a Grit jersey.

JP says:

Well I guess the weak lineup with 4 pitchers in there worked out OK. Go Brett!!!

DreDog says:

Ramiro Pena. Is he our Randy Velarde?

LiveFromNewYork says:

Belt for Brett tonight.

Fuck. If CC wasn’t on in front of him earlier in the game and Gardner got that double, he would have cycled.

josh k says:

Keep cranking them Yanks!! Who-hoo!!

Drew says:

Gardy at .303! WTF

LiveFromNewYork says:

Johnny says these whippersnappers are showing us up..

NYQ says:

Gardner is a beast.
Kay just said “He must b e feeling good about life.” LOL

LiveFromNewYork says:

Mets fans are jumping off the Worlds Fair globe.

JobaWockeeZ says:

If I were a Met fan I would have jumped after Beltran got injured.

Zach says:

any met fans left after the last 2 septembers?

DreDog says:

Was that hit by pitch intentional?

Drew says:

nah slide piece.
/Morgan’d

Zach says:

yeah losing 9-1 they’re sending a message

LiveFromNewYork says:

so now we’re beating a decimated Mets. Thank you Michael Kay.

Well, I don’t see Matsui, Swisher, Posada or Jeter in the starting lineup either.

Drew says:

We are soooo old!!!

Teix is the man says:

teh sox have grit jizzing of their unif-ams. that’s why cap’n tek is teh all-stah and posada is teh suxor!

LiveFromNewYork says:

Who the hell is Ted? Roomate, BFF or lovah lovah?

LiveFromNewYork says:

The requisite fat bald guy shot.

ARX says:

Exactly how long would Gardner have to keep this up (not THIS type of game of course….just, say, .280ish/.370/.400) before anyone changed their minds about him long term? Not goin crazy on him, just wondering.

I’d say the whole season.

Zach says:

what’s long term though? hes not going to block ajax

Salty Buggah says:

whoa whoa whoa…so Gardy is 2nd on the Yanks in BA now? oh shit that’s whats up!!!!!!!!!!

Jake H says:

Can’t believe that if CC goes to 3rd Gardner gets a double and hits for the cycle.

Drew says:

Kay updates us on the position change with 2 strikes left. Good catch Kay.

Dela G says:

YANKEES WIN!!

THAAAAAA YANKEES, WIN!

Accent Shallow says:

Yay Tomko! Yay win! Just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

yay beer!

That ALWAYS sounds right…

LiveFromNewYork says:

Player of the game? Hmmmmm…..could it be Sa….I mean Gritner?

LiveFromNewYork says:

Did a Yankee fan punch Mr. Met in the head?

Sweet.

Zach says:

Stu H says:

Amazing night by Gardner. Going 5-6 w/ a triple, a homer, and a steal makes his stats now good enough to qualify as an all-star! .811 OPS, 17 of 19 steal attempts while playing excellent defense in center is something that any team would love.

Those stats are so much prettier than his .747 OPS pre-game!

LiveFromNewYork says:

Gardner sounds like he’s from Jersey and he’s from South Carolina. Where did he get that accent?

Zach says:

Born in SC, college in SC too

AJ says:

Nady out for the year..ugh.

Tony says:

Gardner should be getting any ABs Nady would have gotten. The haters need to recognize.

Word.
