Ya know, just one game, out of 162, I’d like for our announcers to just talk about the game we’re in. Michael Kay is so used to doing a variety sports show that he comes on here, and runs the gambit of subjects.
He knows everything. He also knew yesterday that Sheffield performs solely off of anger. He hit the home run yesterday not off CC, but off of Joe Torre.
I would still rather have Derek Lowe, but you can’t deny Aj Burnett’s electric stuff. He just walks alot of people and can get in trouble with the long ball
I swear to MO. If Pena doesn’t get a Gem tonight there should be an investigation. Tex has been robbed of a legitimate Web Gem multiple times this year.
Yea, I’ve noticed that too. There a lot of crappy gems chosen but a lot of our good plays aren’t. It’s funny how Jacoby is always chosen for like a routine flyball.
Nah, Bruney needs the work…he looked good too, so that’s encouraging. I’m a pessimist by nature…you leave AJ out there and he takes a broken bat shard in the eye or something ridiculous like that. I’m not hating on the move.
no i agree. the guy said leave him out there for the CG, i meant to say 108 with 2 innings left- showing that a CG is ridiculous unless you let him throw 150pitches
someone should tell cano that if it is true that you can make contact with just about everything, there is no need to offer at the first pitch ***unless it is exactly what you are waiting for.
I agree, but I love Singleton, too. I like how sometimes he completely ignores some of the things that Kay says. And I also like when he makes really cheezy segues and/or puns. Plus he holds his microphone with 2 fingers to flash his ring during the intros.
C’mon Straw!!! The pitching staffs were pretty similarly great, but the 1998 Yankees offense was definitely much more potent than the 1986 Mets offense.
Haha, I know. It just seems like those are Coneys 2 idols growing up, like he’s 60 or something. I’ve never heard those names more than in the last 2 games.
God Posada is a terrible catcher. Jorge and AJ can never co-exist. The gritty and energetic Cervelli should be starting over Posada who is washed up. Posada only has double the OPS+ of Cervelli which isn’t that much. Cervelli just seems like a true Yankee to me. And while we’re at it, why don’t we start Ramiro Pena over Cano?
i wish at this point there was a way you could go back and replay all the phone calls from mets fans on Boomer and Carton from Friday morning who were all talking about how the Mets know that they own the Yanks.
Yeah, I kept hearing that too. What I don’t get is how losing 2 of 3 to a team leads you believe that, next time, you’ll own them. Mets fans keep citing the Castillo-drop game as a game they had “won,” as if dropping routine pop ups to lose a game actually breeds confidence.
Bigger dimensions in the OF means more places for hits to drop in too. What a moron. That’s why, even in the humidor Coors that hitters will always, always thrive, even if the humidor does suppress ball travel. There is a ton of green grass for hits to fall.
i think i remember hearing from one of the recent Mets broadcasts that Wright was 2nd in BABIP in the league, too, which would lend credence to this argument.
I’m not so sure…more foul territory is definitely bad for batting averages. As for more “room” for hits to fall, again I’m not sure. The dimensions of fair territory in every ballpark are the same up to a point…the differences are obviously only in the deepest parts of the OF. In a large park, the only room for hits to fall that doesn’t exist in other stadiums is deep areas.
So, compared to a stadium with short fences, some long fly balls will stay in the stadium at citi field. Some of these will be caught, some won’t, but in a shorter stadium, ALL are hits because they clear the fence. So I don’t see how a large stadium has more room for hits to fall. Any hits that fall in at Citi would be homers in smaller parks. And some of them, the fly balls, will be caught. In all, fewer hits.
Maybe more doubles and triples will be hit at Citi, and less homers, but overall, should be fewer hits.
Obviously there are other things that effect the number of hits…hitting background, etc… but in terms of dimensions, I think big = bad for hitters.
If I’ve got it wrong…if I’m not thinking right, please correct me…anyone…
The piece you’re missing is that if the outfield is deeper, fielders may have to play back further to prevent doubles/triples over their head, so there is more space in front of the fielder for singles to fall (even though there is equivalent space in a smaller park in front of the fielder, he will play in closer, and have less total territory to cover).
Think of it in terms of the ratio of total outfield area to outfielder. rather than just the difference in linear distance.
Don’t think so…not necessarily. Batters don’t get stronger just because the fences are further back. I don’t know, ’cause I’m not a baseball player, but I think you’d base your fielding position relative to the batter, not relative to the fence.
Maybe it reduces the chances as Chris Perez was supposed to be part of a multi-player deal for Holliday, and now is part of the DeRosa deal. But you never know.
First commment, got nothing to say
isnt that a ban….
Yeah! Ban that MFer! He’s lookin at Misty the Midget anyways!
OK, you’re banned.
Now go away.
I was just joking…even though it is against the commenting guideline
I just kidding around.
BTW-You actually READ those guidelines?
some of them and I know some by reading the comments. Ben is always deleting comments and posting a guideline.
I apparently wanted to start us out with a misspelled word, to get us off on the right foot.
made the thread mmmh, mmmh good.

Kay is my favorite, but alot of people here don’t like him.
watch Ch 11/SNY. if the Mets broadcast gets the ratings boost during the subway series, maybe the YES network execs will take the hint.
The broadcast picture quality at 11/SNY si lousy compared to YES.
idk, i havent noticed any difference.
Does Cone get a bonus for every Red Ruffing reference?
IETC, and I love the Ruffing references.
i think i’d really like a refrigerated beer closet.
Aj Pierzinski’s hair is blinding.
AJ gettin it now
you guys should look into Spongetech…I got a few thousand shares. I think it’ll hit the dollar mark soon and go well beyond that
GTA vice city, is still a great game after all these years
Burnett is badass!
wow, pen~a
OMG fucking AWESOME
Pena, ftw!
looks like AJ Burnett is aboot to go on a little run here… would seem to indicate that good things are ahead for the Yanks heading into the break.
and yay Pena.
Yeah, his last two starts have been brilliant and he’s a 2nd half pitcher anyhoo.
he is a 2nd half pitcher too
He’s got a 3.02 ERA over his last seven start, not counting tonight. He’s not about to go on a little run, he’s been on one for a month now.
Yeah, but that includes the bad start vs Philly and the horrendous start vs the Red Sox.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....yerId=4153
Holy fucking shit. Ramiro Pena.
Jetes makes that play.
Hughes and Bruney tonight?
DirecTV is killing me with the delay…that being said, Wow, hell of a play by Pena!
ok 2 strikes drop the hammer call it a night AJ
how does Kay know that is it for AJ?
7 innings, 108 pitches, 5 run lead, no reason to send him back out there
He knows everything. He also knew yesterday that Sheffield performs solely off of anger. He hit the home run yesterday not off CC, but off of Joe Torre.
Could we please stop bashing things for no reason. Seems like people are bashing something every night. STOP
Sorry you don’t like it broski. I hate Kay, I will probably bash him everynight.
In his previous two starts, AJ had a .68 ERA. That went up today.
BOOM! 10 K’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JoPo isn’t a bad game-caller after all
the Mets don’t exactly have their major league lineup playing
He can only pitch to the lineup they send out there.
I was trying to rag on Posada’s game calling ability. Bad joke I suppose
I would still rather have Derek Lowe, but you can’t deny Aj Burnett’s electric stuff. He just walks alot of people and can get in trouble with the long ball
Lowe – 4.53 ERA in AAAA
Burnett – 3.93 ERA in the big boys league
I swear to MO. If Pena doesn’t get a Gem tonight there should be an investigation. Tex has been robbed of a legitimate Web Gem multiple times this year.
Yea, I’ve noticed that too. There a lot of crappy gems chosen but a lot of our good plays aren’t. It’s funny how Jacoby is always chosen for like a routine flyball.
If he had a lower pitch count, he could’ve padded his Strikeout totals against the bottom of their lineup.
Fuckin shit fucks! Swish already has 14 homers. I didn’t even realize it.
Nice line for Allan James
IP-7
H-1
R-0
BB-3
SO-10
One of those walks was semi-intentional to Sheff. 4 pitch walk.
I’ll Let Burnett pitch one more inning. It’s been a relatively easy 108 pitches.
Eh don’t need to. We have a good lead and we don’t want to waste bullets. And Hughes needs some work too.
Hey look at that, AJ and the Yanks are on the ESPN homepage. It says, “Whose Citi is it?”
Teixeira must have watched Tom Emanski’s videos as a youngster. straight fundamentals.
Melky’s back on track the past ten games or so. Many in RAB land would like to keep that under wraps.
He’s the “Little Girl with the Curl.” Ok, take your shots at me now…
Save Hughes for tomorrow, but Bruney needs work.
y not let aj go for cg? pitch count not bad, still dominationg..
See latter half of above comment.
108 with innings left?
Nah, Bruney needs the work…he looked good too, so that’s encouraging. I’m a pessimist by nature…you leave AJ out there and he takes a broken bat shard in the eye or something ridiculous like that. I’m not hating on the move.
no i agree. the guy said leave him out there for the CG, i meant to say 108 with 2 innings left- showing that a CG is ridiculous unless you let him throw 150pitches
someone should tell cano that if it is true that you can make contact with just about everything, there is no need to offer at the first pitch ***unless it is exactly what you are waiting for.
That said, He or Alex is my favorite player
WHAT MUST WE DO TO GET EDUARDO PEREZ OFF OF TELEVISION?
Why must you bash something?
I’m not reaching. The guy has been overly awful from the time he stepped on set. I’m not saying “I can’t stand Kay’s tie.”
Neither was I.
But seriously, how do you wear that tie on TV?
who really cares about a tie?
didn’t bru used to have a lot more action on the slider?
Brian Bruney needs to wears jeans, a jean shirt and a jean jacket with a mustache like that.
He’ll look like fuckin Napoleon Dynamite.
like stewie. “i know they guy who owns this place”
Bruney in the Canadian Tuxedo?
The pornostache and rebel without a patch isn’t enough?
And why are they playing reed over Fernando?
because Fernando is hitting .167 and AJ would dominate him
Who’s next? Bruney again or D-Rob
Matsui up so Bruney out
Nice job Bruney
Bah! Joba could have gotten them out in 6 pitches!
It doesn’t matter they are not the Red Sox.
what is the over/under for CMW’s first win?
tomorrow
I Think we can officially say that Phil Hughes is the 8th innings guy.
I despise Keith Hernandez!
/Newman’d
a second spitter?
On the gravely road!
That’s one magic loogie.
The way I figure it I’ve already been there and I plan on rounding second tonight at around eleven o’clock.
With Wangster pitching tomorrow I’d guess we want to save Hughes.
I know we all love bashing YES, but this trio in the booth is by far my favorite.
I need me some singy in there.
I agree, but I love Singleton, too. I like how sometimes he completely ignores some of the things that Kay says. And I also like when he makes really cheezy segues and/or puns. Plus he holds his microphone with 2 fingers to flash his ring during the intros.
Singleton + Cone is my favorite.
+1.
lol. He crushes one!… to left center, 360 feet.
Exactly – LMAO
LMFAO “And Matsui cruses one to left field”
kay should be whipped for every over exaggerated flyout.
C’mon Straw!!! The pitching staffs were pretty similarly great, but the 1998 Yankees offense was definitely much more potent than the 1986 Mets offense.
” and MATSUI CRUSHES ONE TO RICH CENTER..but it hangs in the wind” – douche
-right
You mean left
I fuckin love Cone.
I do too
could we have gotten him when he went to Toronto?
gardner struck out on a 1-1 pitch?
Al Leiter with the greatest analysis I have ever heard.”
Cone: “Not to take anything away from Jesse Orosco or Roger McDowell but neither of those guys were Mariano Rivera.”
Leiter: “Nobody is”
“Anticipating the flow” is Cone’s go-to meme tonight.
He just inked a deal with Flomax.
Can he throw a Spud Chandler reference in there?
LOL. Chandler was Red Ruffing’s running mate in the rotation of those great late 30’s – early 40’s Yankees.
Haha, I know. It just seems like those are Coneys 2 idols growing up, like he’s 60 or something. I’ve never heard those names more than in the last 2 games.
I bet Alex was licking his chops to face Dessens again.
Is the hotdog guy in the Avis commercial Henry Winkler? The Fonze?
SO who’s it gonna be? I’m taking bets.
I thought’d be D-rob with Wanger starting tomorrow.
And while we’re at it, why don’t we start Ramiro Pena over Cano?
u sound like Mike Francesa
IETC
By “respiratory illness,” they mean the clap, right?
crabs
I can’t believe I misdiagnosed that.
Let’s see the curve!!
drop a deuce on him
Haha! I can just picture D-Rob unloading shit on the batter’s head!
umm…
Aww come on, you were thinking that too when Kay said that.
i refuse to watch Kay when i have another option.
I honestly don’t give a shit about where the Mets stand…
Ha I love seeing Joe happy. Joe’s happy, I’m happy.
Joe’s happy, Drew’s happy, das it
-Drew
Joes happy, drews happy, das it
Ivan Nova up to AAA.
http://community.thetimes-trib.....enton.aspx
With Garcia done for the year, and Nova up, Jason Johnson goes down to Trenton. That still leaves one spot open, unless I’m missing something.
Bleich moves up?
What about Zmac, I guess his start was washed last night?
Total Domination.
Fuhgeddaboutit.
Damn you.
Fuggehdaboutit.
You guys ready to sell some Cahh-s?
Rent some cahhs
man its great to win again
Yeah, those last 20 hours seemed like forever.
My dad:”You know what I love about these games? Girardi doesn’t have to make many decisions”
1 hit!
i wish at this point there was a way you could go back and replay all the phone calls from mets fans on Boomer and Carton from Friday morning who were all talking about how the Mets know that they own the Yanks.

So basically what we got out of today: Jorge doesn’t suck, Cano doesn’t suck, AJ doesn’t suck, Melky’s a bum.
FUCK BASEBALL TONIGHT. THEY SPEND 20 FUCKIN MINUTES ON WAKEFIELD AND HIS 3 HIT SHUTOUT AND THEN JUST GLANCE OVER OUR COMBINED ONE HIT SHUTOUT.
dude, relax.
Seriously, simmer down, man.

Michael Kay says it’s going to be hard for someone on the Mets to win a batting title in Citi–isn’t David Wright leading the NL in BA?
yes, yes he is.
and when Wright is going good, he can smack doubles into that right center gap til the cows come home.
i’m guessing he meant HR title… but thats just Kay being Kay.
Bigger dimensions in the OF means more places for hits to drop in too. What a moron. That’s why, even in the humidor Coors that hitters will always, always thrive, even if the humidor does suppress ball travel. There is a ton of green grass for hits to fall.

… Who knows what goes on in his head…
DeRosa to the Cards, Chris Perez is involved in the deal.
Shhh, you didn’t hear that from me.
Melvin told me.
every year, i look at the cards and think they stink on ice, or at least brush them aside as not having enough…
and year after year, they just win games in that division.
That’s so true. It’s amazing how they keep racking up winning seasons.
Dave Duncan
Dave DuncanThe NL CentralJohn Heyman and Tim Dierkes told me
but noone would believe you… Heyman doesnt have any breaking news ever.
LOL
If they get DeRosa, does that make them more or less likely to obtain Holliday, too, as rumor of their interest has it?
Maybe it reduces the chances as Chris Perez was supposed to be part of a multi-player deal for Holliday, and now is part of the DeRosa deal. But you never know.
They could still offer McClellan or Motte instead of Perez so it could still happen.
So, Swisher just credited Brian Cashman’s visit down in Atlanta as the reason that the Yanks have “turned it around.”
Blah-bitty-blah-blah-blah.
Hell, even he players buy into this stuff?!
Great performance from Burnett, sadly I wasn’t able to catch it.
ramiro didn’t make web gems.
