First commment, got nothing to say

  2. Drew says:

Eh, posted this right b4 the thread closed:
Ya know, just one game, out of 162, I’d like for our announcers to just talk about the game we’re in. Michael Kay is so used to doing a variety sports show that he comes on here, and runs the gambit of subjects.

  3. putt says:

Does Cone get a bonus for every Red Ruffing reference?

  4. TurnTwo says:

i think i’d really like a refrigerated beer closet.

  5. Drew says:

    Aj Pierzinski’s hair is blinding.

  6. John says:

    AJ gettin it now

  7. e mills says:

you guys should look into Spongetech…I got a few thousand shares. I think it’ll hit the dollar mark soon and go well beyond that

  8. pat says:

GTA vice city, is still a great game after all these years

  9. Teix is the man says:

    Burnett is badass!

  10. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

    wow, pen~a

  11. pat says:

    OMG fucking AWESOME

  12. TurnTwo says:

looks like AJ Burnett is aboot to go on a little run here… would seem to indicate that good things are ahead for the Yanks heading into the break.

    and yay Pena.

  13. Drew says:

    Holy fucking shit. Ramiro Pena.

  14. The Artist says:

    Jetes makes that play.

  15. Drew says:

    Hughes and Bruney tonight?

  16. putt says:

DirecTV is killing me with the delay…that being said, Wow, hell of a play by Pena!

  17. pat says:

ok 2 strikes drop the hammer call it a night AJ

  18. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

how does Kay know that is it for AJ?

  19. Drew says:

In his previous two starts, AJ had a .68 ERA. That went up today. :)

  20. John says:

    BOOM! 10 K’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JoPo isn’t a bad game-caller after all ;)

  21. Manimal says:

I would still rather have Derek Lowe, but you can’t deny Aj Burnett’s electric stuff. He just walks alot of people and can get in trouble with the long ball

  22. Dorian says:

I swear to MO. If Pena doesn’t get a Gem tonight there should be an investigation. Tex has been robbed of a legitimate Web Gem multiple times this year.

    • John says:

Yea, I’ve noticed that too. There a lot of crappy gems chosen but a lot of our good plays aren’t. It’s funny how Jacoby is always chosen for like a routine flyball.

  23. John says:

If he had a lower pitch count, he could’ve padded his Strikeout totals against the bottom of their lineup.

  24. Teix is the man says:

Fuckin shit fucks! Swish already has 14 homers. I didn’t even realize it.

  25. The Artist says:

    Nice line for Allan James
    IP-7
    H-1
    R-0
    BB-3
    SO-10

One of those walks was semi-intentional to Sheff. 4 pitch walk.

  26. Ivan says:

I’ll Let Burnett pitch one more inning. It’s been a relatively easy 108 pitches.

    • John says:

Eh don’t need to. We have a good lead and we don’t want to waste bullets. And Hughes needs some work too.

  27. John says:

Hey look at that, AJ and the Yanks are on the ESPN homepage. It says, “Whose Citi is it?”

  28. TurnTwo says:

Teixeira must have watched Tom Emanski’s videos as a youngster. straight fundamentals.

  29. Drew says:

Melky’s back on track the past ten games or so. Many in RAB land would like to keep that under wraps.

  30. Teix is the man says:

Save Hughes for tomorrow, but Bruney needs work.

  31. Yankees Brawl says:

y not let aj go for cg? pitch count not bad, still dominationg..

    • putt says:

See latter half of above comment.

    • Zach says:

      108 with innings left?

      • putt says:

Nah, Bruney needs the work…he looked good too, so that’s encouraging. I’m a pessimist by nature…you leave AJ out there and he takes a broken bat shard in the eye or something ridiculous like that. I’m not hating on the move.

        • Zach says:

no i agree. the guy said leave him out there for the CG, i meant to say 108 with 2 innings left- showing that a CG is ridiculous unless you let him throw 150pitches

  32. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

someone should tell cano that if it is true that you can make contact with just about everything, there is no need to offer at the first pitch ***unless it is exactly what you are waiting for.

That said, He or Alex is my favorite player

  33. Dorian says:

WHAT MUST WE DO TO GET EDUARDO PEREZ OFF OF TELEVISION?

  34. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

didn’t bru used to have a lot more action on the slider?

  35. Mike Axisa says:

Brian Bruney needs to wears jeans, a jean shirt and a jean jacket with a mustache like that.

  36. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

And why are they playing reed over Fernando?

  37. Drew says:

Who’s next? Bruney again or D-Rob

  38. John says:

    Nice job Bruney

  39. Bah! Joba could have gotten them out in 6 pitches!

  40. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

what is the over/under for CMW’s first win?

  41. Dorian says:

I Think we can officially say that Phil Hughes is the 8th innings guy.

  42. I despise Keith Hernandez!

    /Newman’d

  43. Drew says:

With Wangster pitching tomorrow I’d guess we want to save Hughes.

  44. BigBlueAL says:

I know we all love bashing YES, but this trio in the booth is by far my favorite.

  45. Drew says:

lol. He crushes one!… to left center, 360 feet.

  46. Dorian says:

LMFAO “And Matsui cruses one to left field”

  47. J says:

kay should be whipped for every over exaggerated flyout.

  48. BigBlueAL says:

C’mon Straw!!! The pitching staffs were pretty similarly great, but the 1998 Yankees offense was definitely much more potent than the 1986 Mets offense.

  49. Yankees Brawl says:

” and MATSUI CRUSHES ONE TO RICH CENTER..but it hangs in the wind” – douche

  50. Yankees Brawl says:

    -right

  51. BigBlueAL says:

    I fuckin love Cone.

  52. Dela G says:

gardner struck out on a 1-1 pitch?

  53. Dorian says:

Al Leiter with the greatest analysis I have ever heard.”

Cone: “Not to take anything away from Jesse Orosco or Roger McDowell but neither of those guys were Mariano Rivera.”

    Leiter: “Nobody is”

  54. “Anticipating the flow” is Cone’s go-to meme tonight.

  55. John says:

I bet Alex was licking his chops to face Dessens again.

  56. AJ says:

Is the hotdog guy in the Avis commercial Henry Winkler? The Fonze?

  57. Drew says:

SO who’s it gonna be? I’m taking bets.

  58. Bill says:

God Posada is a terrible catcher. Jorge and AJ can never co-exist. The gritty and energetic Cervelli should be starting over Posada who is washed up. Posada only has double the OPS+ of Cervelli which isn’t that much. Cervelli just seems like a true Yankee to me. And while we’re at it, why don’t we start Ramiro Pena over Cano?

  59. putt says:

By “respiratory illness,” they mean the clap, right?

  60. ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

    Let’s see the curve!!

  61. Drew says:

I honestly don’t give a shit about where the Mets stand…

  62. Drew says:

Ha I love seeing Joe happy. Joe’s happy, I’m happy.

  63. The Artist says:

    Ivan Nova up to AAA.

    http://community.thetimes-trib.....enton.aspx

With Garcia done for the year, and Nova up, Jason Johnson goes down to Trenton. That still leaves one spot open, unless I’m missing something.

    Bleich moves up?

  64. Drew says:

    Total Domination.

  65. Dela G says:

man its great to win again

  66. Manimal says:

My dad:”You know what I love about these games? Girardi doesn’t have to make many decisions”

  67. TurnTwo says:

i wish at this point there was a way you could go back and replay all the phone calls from mets fans on Boomer and Carton from Friday morning who were all talking about how the Mets know that they own the Yanks.

    • Pasqua says:

Yeah, I kept hearing that too. What I don’t get is how losing 2 of 3 to a team leads you believe that, next time, you’ll own them. Mets fans keep citing the Castillo-drop game as a game they had “won,” as if dropping routine pop ups to lose a game actually breeds confidence.

  68. Drew says:

So basically what we got out of today: Jorge doesn’t suck, Cano doesn’t suck, AJ doesn’t suck, Melky’s a bum.

  69. Dorian says:

FUCK BASEBALL TONIGHT. THEY SPEND 20 FUCKIN MINUTES ON WAKEFIELD AND HIS 3 HIT SHUTOUT AND THEN JUST GLANCE OVER OUR COMBINED ONE HIT SHUTOUT.

  70. Michael Kay says it’s going to be hard for someone on the Mets to win a batting title in Citi–isn’t David Wright leading the NL in BA?

    • TurnTwo says:

      yes, yes he is.

and when Wright is going good, he can smack doubles into that right center gap til the cows come home.

i’m guessing he meant HR title… but thats just Kay being Kay.

    • Steve H says:

Bigger dimensions in the OF means more places for hits to drop in too. What a moron. That’s why, even in the humidor Coors that hitters will always, always thrive, even if the humidor does suppress ball travel. There is a ton of green grass for hits to fall.

      • TurnTwo says:

i think i remember hearing from one of the recent Mets broadcasts that Wright was 2nd in BABIP in the league, too, which would lend credence to this argument.

      • JP says:

I’m not so sure…more foul territory is definitely bad for batting averages. As for more “room” for hits to fall, again I’m not sure. The dimensions of fair territory in every ballpark are the same up to a point…the differences are obviously only in the deepest parts of the OF. In a large park, the only room for hits to fall that doesn’t exist in other stadiums is deep areas.

So, compared to a stadium with short fences, some long fly balls will stay in the stadium at citi field. Some of these will be caught, some won’t, but in a shorter stadium, ALL are hits because they clear the fence. So I don’t see how a large stadium has more room for hits to fall. Any hits that fall in at Citi would be homers in smaller parks. And some of them, the fly balls, will be caught. In all, fewer hits.

Maybe more doubles and triples will be hit at Citi, and less homers, but overall, should be fewer hits.

Obviously there are other things that effect the number of hits…hitting background, etc… but in terms of dimensions, I think big = bad for hitters.

If I’ve got it wrong…if I’m not thinking right, please correct me…anyone…

        • Adrian says:

The piece you’re missing is that if the outfield is deeper, fielders may have to play back further to prevent doubles/triples over their head, so there is more space in front of the fielder for singles to fall (even though there is equivalent space in a smaller park in front of the fielder, he will play in closer, and have less total territory to cover).

Think of it in terms of the ratio of total outfield area to outfielder. rather than just the difference in linear distance.

          • JP says:

Don’t think so…not necessarily. Batters don’t get stronger just because the fences are further back. I don’t know, ’cause I’m not a baseball player, but I think you’d base your fielding position relative to the batter, not relative to the fence.

    • Drew says:

… Who knows what goes on in his head…

  71. Mike Axisa says:

DeRosa to the Cards, Chris Perez is involved in the deal.

Shhh, you didn’t hear that from me.

  72. Pasqua says:

So, Swisher just credited Brian Cashman’s visit down in Atlanta as the reason that the Yanks have “turned it around.”

    Blah-bitty-blah-blah-blah.

Hell, even he players buy into this stuff?!

  73. AsianShuutoHeat says:

Great performance from Burnett, sadly I wasn’t able to catch it.

  74. Dorian says:

    ramiro didn’t make web gems.
