Dela G says:

JOE MORGAN AND STEVE PHILLIPS ARE COMPLETE BUFFOONS

Wow, Joe Girardi just had the best explanation of the Yankees offense of the last week. Thank you for that slice of common sense, Joe. Thank you so much.

UWS says:

What’d he say?

That every team has a slump and the team has too many good hitters to stay in a slump for too long.

TurnTwo says:

the team has too many good hitters in the lineup to slump for any lengthy period of time, basically.

Dela G says:

am i the only one who didn’t think that a-rod twinged?

Hey, what’s up, what did I miss?

Oh, the Yankees are a good baseball team. That. That’s what I missed.

Zach says:

and Jon, Joe, and Steve are morons

DSTO:
Don’t state the obvious.

Zach says:

ha just giving you a recap

Tony says:

You know, the most likely scenario for Jeter/ARod is probably ARod DHing full-time after Posada retires and Jeter to 3rd. I went there.

Metsuck says:

Arod has the better arm. He would never DH

Tony says:

ARod has the worse hip.

Metsuck says:

for now…by the time Posada retires, he’ll be fine

TurnTwo says:

yes, degenerative hip conditions do normally get better over time.

Seeing as how that would be 2012, I’d probably be okay with that concept. I think ARod could probably make it to 2013 or 2014 before moving to fulltime DH, though. JMHO.

Metsuck says:

I think Jon Miller just scared Girardi in terms of A-Rod

Jose says:

I forgot about the most critical part of the defense repositioning.

Posada played some 2B in the minors, move him to 2B. Cano to SS. Jeter to 3B. Arod to DH. Angel Berroa to C. Trade Matsui back to Japan for Darrell Rasner. Rasner takes Joba’s spot in the rotation and Joba goes to the eighth. How does that sound Jon Miller?

Let’s trade Matsui to Japan for Yu Darvish instead. Change that, and I’m on board.

Jose says:

Matsui leaves and only Darvish in return? That seems too steep for us. I’m walking away.

What if we keep the porn collection?

Jose says:

We also get to keep the drawing of his wife. My theory is she only exists on paper.

Tony says:

He was J-O-K-I-N-G

ESPN games as open mic night has really gotten tired

Bryan V says:

So where was that pitch?

Dela G says:

this has to be the longest AB ever

Four of the scariest words to open a conversation in the English Language:

Joe Morgan: “I have a theory…”

Professor Oak says:

From a Metsies Fan:

Next year we will have huge pop with Dunn and more pop will Holliday and Holliday and Wright will hit .325 and all three will have a huge OBP.

DOH!

I don’t have the heart to tell him that Dunn’s signed for two years.

Let him keep hope alive, the poor bastard.

Well, Dwight thinks it’s Friday, but it’s really only Thurday, so let’s keep that going.

Zach says:

wow horrible melky

Jackson says:

Well played Melky, well played

Dela G says:

damn it

we need more runs to help out wang

now here comes joe morgan to talk sheet about CMW

Bryan V says:

I’m not surprised that he didn’t play it perfectly off the wall, but that was terrible.

Tony says:

Bad Melky v. Good Melky is the best positional battle in NY

Accent Shallow says:

Completely agreed.

pat says:

Oyy melk didnt play that too well.

Professor Oak says:

HEY LOOK A RUN!

“Can Wanger make it past the fifth?”

No.

lovintheyankees says:

ye but without anymore damage

Drew says:

But teh 2 runs!!!!

Jackson says:

I thought you were an optimist

Jose says:

“Optimist”, Really? I mean seriously?

Dela G says:

are you on crack?

Dela G says:

lovintheyankees says:

great this iere wang cracks and our offense can do anything but that first inning because then when someone gets on base cano hits into a double play or the pitcher is up or they just try and hit everything outta the park

DGeezy says:

ugh theyre building momentum

Metsuck says:

Why did they even pitch to Castillo????

Dela G says:

i was wondering that myself

Ivan says:

It’s Luis Castillo. Think about it, Luis Castillo.

Tony says:

Dear Yankees,

Stop making me watch Wang start.

Love,
Tony

Zach says:

wow ge gave up 2 runs, give me a break

Tony says:

Yeah, he has been amazing tonight and fallen into bad luck. Also, great all season.

People shouldn’t be rehabbing in the majors. Period.

Zach says:

they had 1 hit up to that inning? he’s not allowed to give up runs now, must throw all shut outs or he sucks

Tony says:

No, must be throwing like a major league starter. The Mets are just horrible. He’s throwing straight fastballs with no command.

Tony says:

No, must be throwing like a major league starter. The Mets are just horrible. He’s throwing straight fastballs with no command.

Drew says:

Yeah he’s been brutal today.
/oaktag

I’m sure the Yankees can do that. They can revoke YES from your cable package.

We reserve the right to refuse service.

Dela G says:

and wang gets through 4 *thumbs up*

Zach says:

with 67 pitches

Dela G says:

still less than livan :)

Lead’s still intact. We can do this.

Bryan V says:

Wow! The “Sky is falling People” are out already.

Relax already!

Salty Buggah says:

funny thing is, we’re still winning!!!

pat says:

Dudes it’s still Livan Hernandez.

mjkj says:

A walk an inning and every pitch up is not a good formula

Guys:

It’s not the runs, it’s the fact that he’s got utterly no command. The only reason this game isn’t much worse is because the Mets have such a crap line up.

Optimism, though: The Yankees are still facing Livan Hernandez. That should be enough.

Professor Oak says:

For some reason I fear that Wang is going to be given another start for pitching well against a AAA lineup. He’s progressing well, just not fast enough.

Drew says:

I guess we shoulda unintentionally intentionally walked castillo.

lovintheyankees says:

we can’t do anything against livan, just great, wang will give it back in the bottom of the 6th. thats a hr at the stadium

pat says:

three runs so far take a chill pill. Plus we smoked a few right at outfielders, dont start this shit right now.

Salty Buggah says:

calm down dude! Seriously, we’re crushing the ball but it’s just not falling and we’re still leading. Just relax.

Fuck this field.

pat says:
VO says:

After Posada’s homerun last night I attempted to start a It’s a bandbox chant.

Salty Buggah says:

Now if all of our hard hit balls will land, we’re good

Bryan V says:

Oh my God! He gave up runs…TAKE HIM OUT NOW!

LOL

Zach says:

should taken him out BEFORE he gave up the runs

Ivan says:

Don’t worry guys, our offense is clicking especially it helps that Livan is pitching, and even if Wang only goes 5, we got Hughes to back em up.

Dela G says:

well i am praying the yankees can get a run here

Tony says:

How about… *gasp*

Hughes starts and WANG cleans the game up? Crazy, I know. This idea of starting the best pitchers and having the obviously injured/discombobulated guy work his way back is insane.

Bryan V says:

You really want Wang to come out of the bullpen?

Wang pitches to contact. You don’t want a reliever to put a lot of balls into play.

I’m all for Hughes starting, but not if that means Wang in the bullpen. It’s June 28th…Wang hasn’t forgotten how to pitch.

Tony says:

I watched Wang pitch out of the bullpen. He was fine, and he didn’t have as much chance to get his AAA stuff he knocked around. FYI, TIm Redding and Darrell Rasner have managed to look ok sometimes too. Wang is not good right now, at all. I don’t know if you guys are delusional or what, but if there were any more smoke and mirrors in play right now I’d be on the lookout for David Copperfield.

Long term >>>>>>> short term

Tony says:

Phil Hughes being able to throw more than 150 innings next year is a short term consideration. Got me.

Which is why I’ve been screaming for him to go to Scranton for about a month now.

Wang needs to start. So does Hughes. Wang does it here, Phil does it there.

Bryan V says:

If you think you’re feeling down, how about being a Mets fan and seeing hard hit ball after hard hit ball?

TurnTwo says:

but mets fans dont see that.

Is there any other field aside from Citi in which that ball doesn’t get out? Atlanta maybe?

Bryan V says:

LOL! A DP off of a bunt.

Drew says:

Wang hit into a double play!! This guy fuckin sucks!

Bryan V says:

Hughes would have hit a ball about 500 feet. :)

lovintheyankees says:

not pitching well and he can’t help himself by laying down a bunt

Dela G says:

pat says:

UGH he only made that play bc grit had to hold up incase it was caught.

lovintheyankees says:

they have all the momemntum. the yankees look dead right now waiting for wang to fall apart even more.

pat says:

just fuckin stop, we’re still winning calm down you’re actin a fool.

lovintheyankees says:

look up and down , it isn’t just me. im a fan voicing frustration with this team. im allowed to. and yes they have the momentum we have the lead but not for long not the way wang is pitching

pat says:

ok chicken little.

look up and down , it isn’t just me.

The rest of them need to stop too.

im a fan voicing frustration with this team.

There’s difference between frustration and nihilistic fatalism.

LiveFromNewYork says:

TSJC is good at commentary.

TurnTwo says:

Momentum is tomorrow’s starting pitcher the next half-inning.

Metsuck says:

Bad baseball by Joe…Just let Wang take pitches and have Gardner steal. Why you trying ot make Wang bunt and then run hard?

Jackson says:

Why does everyone think that Wang is Sam Jackson from Unbreakable. He had a freak injury last year, he’s not going to fall apart every time he has to run harder than a light jog.

That DP was not as enjoyable as I was lead to believe DP’s were normally.

Is that you, pat?

pat says:

hahah I’m glad I seem to have a monopoly on all that is unholy.

charlespoet says:

Well, great first inning for the offense and since, reminiscent of the past week. C’mon boys, this is not Cy Young you are facing.

Bryan V says:

Are you watching the game? We are hitting the ball hard. Sometimes they are playing in the right spot(s) is all.

charlespoet says:

I am watching the game and yes they are hitting the ball hard, but they are outs. So really it doesn’t matter if their knocking hte cover off the ball or hitting weakly, they have only 1 hit since the first inning and BG walk. That is all I am saying. Just as is a win or a loss, does it matter if it is 3-2 or 15-0. Depending on which end the Yankees are on, you either win or lose.

zs190 says:

I wonder if it’s better to just for Wang to go up and take 3 pitches. That was a pretty bad bunt and you are making him run it out.

Salty Buggah says:

Ok Wangy, scoreless inning here and you qualify for a win.

Drew says:

How come no one said AP should be in the minors or in the pen during/after his last start?

I think you know the answer to this one.

Zach says:

ANDY PETTITE IS A STARTING PITCHAAAAHH!!!1!!

Zach says:

knew you were waiting for it

Drew says:

heh… I just like to rile up the “Wong SUCKS!!1 crew”

jr says:

Wang not having a good day all around..

Dela G says:

i’m predicting a 15 pitch inning here, +/- 1

Metsuck says:

5 pitches for D. Wright for you to be correct.

Metsuck says:

That was a nice play by Livan but it was not “brilliant.”

Bryan V says:

I forget, and can’t read…are the Yankees losing?

dre says:

seriously, how do you not let gardner steal before letting wang bunt???

Zach says:

what? you cant run into the fielder in the basepath???

Metsuck says:

Amazing, Joe Morgan

Zach says:

i cant believe he honestly said that, because you know all those collisions at home plate the runner would be out every single time

My last tweet:

How bad has the season been for Wang? To get a double play he has to hit into one.

Metsuck says:

I cannot wait for our pitchers to go back to just pitching

Metsuck says:

And Wang should be safe because Livan was in his running lane. He should be awarded first base

Dela G says:

man that was a GENEROUS CALL for wanger against murphy

GG says:

wait go back, did phillips just say “we dont often think of pitchers as baseball players, like a dustin pedroia”…am I hearing things???? or has all of ESPN baseball staff officially been brainwashed by Gammons?????

bobtaco says:

I heard it. And cringed. And then winced.

Bryan V says:

Even if the fielder is in the base path, the runner can not interfere with the fielder while he is making a play on the ball.

STOP. TALKING. ABOUT. SOCCER. DURING. A. BASEBALL. GAME. Please.

TurnTwo says:

well at least he was right, though.

the US team team did play very well the last 3 games.

BigBlueAL says:

WOW Joe Morgan talking soccer.

Joe Morgan talking makes me want to not watch soccer.

JackC says:

THAT’S what’s makes you not want to watch soccer?

Soccer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hockey

Dela G says:

well joe morgan knows his soccer though. nice analysis

Bryan V says:

When I have a question about any sport, I go to Joe Morgan. Cricket, badminton, squash, wallyball…it doesn’t matter. Hell…BOCCE!

Dela G says:

Jamal G. says:

Steve Phillips, since you don’t think all baseball players are “baseball players”, what do you call all baseball players who aren’t “baseball players”?

Dela G says:

mets players he’s drafted…

Dela G says:

mark teixiera is effing amazing

LiveFromNewYork says:

good at baseball

LiveFromNewYork says:

I’m glad Phil is staying up while Wang is back in the rotation but no other team in the majors has people engaging in these ahole discussions about putting our starters/leaving our starters in the pen.

I think the Yankees need to make some kind of STFU decree (starting with their own YES commentators) that their decisions re pitchers are theirs and stop the debate. I can’t stand it.

Zach says:

ratings, discussion will never stop on Francesa or Kay’s shows.

Andy pitched bad last night, see he needs to pitch better so Hughes can take Joba’s spot and Joba goes to the bullpen. WOAH see these Joba discussions come out of nowhere, its amazing

Do you know what kind of starters you move to the bullpen? Guys like Phil Coke. Guys who don’t have 2-4 real good pitches, just 1-2 average ones. Guys who can’t start and win.

Guys who can start and win need to be in the rotation. They shouldn’t be in the bullpen. Ever.

If you have six hot girlfriends, you don’t turn one of them into a dude so you can have someone to hang with, you just hang with your six hot girlfriends.,

LiveFromNewYork says:

I never have less than 8 hot girlfriends and not one is a dude.

that I know of.

Zach says:

pat says:

yeah arod is gonna have to move off 3b soon…. NOT

Very glad to see I was wrong!

Accent Shallow says:

I’m really confused. I’d been led to believe that David Wright is a good hitter. Based on the events of this series, that is clearly not the case.

Drew says:

Al says, “See David, THAT is how you debate!”

A-Rod’s taking a defensive shit on all the scouts Buster Olney quoted as saying he was done at third base.

That’s because he’s a selfish player who only wants to prove people wrong and improve his own self image.

DGeezy says:

nice inning by wang, top of the order up for the yanks, time to score some more runs

Slu says:

Alex is playing some good D tonight.

Bryan V says:

Wang sucks! Why is he still in this game? LOL

ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

even though castillo gave us a win, I hate him for that slap.

Good catch Tex

Bryan V says:

Joe knows Curling!

Ivan says:

Wang for one more inning?

Zach says:

no he sucsk!!1!

Bryan V says:

80 pitches? It’s close. We may be able to get two more out of him.

yankees=warriors says:

I’d say…don’t take any chances.

TurnTwo says:

against this Mets roster? yes, let him go.

he cant go 6 innings here, when are you going to stretch him out?

and dont let me hear once that you need to take him out after 5 with the lead to get him the all important first win. ugh. UGH.

Bryan V says:

Joe was going to judge Dancing With The Stars, but he was needed at ESPN.

“You didn’t do that step consistently enough. Six out of ten.”

Zach says:

Livan Hernandez got himself in great shape? When???

Dela G says:

Bryan V says:

Arod with a great play. He got the ball, took a step, got ready, and threw a perfect strike to Tex. Well…ignore the other two steps he took, and the stretch by Tex.

Dela G says:

i tell you, its like the two stooges with morgan and phillips

pat says:

Haha throws from short and 3b are harder than those from 2b.

Because 2b is closer.

This is professional analysis.

Dela G says:

John Madden is laughing at them

Bryan V says:

Hold on! It’s not as far from 2B to 1B, as it is from 3B to 1B?

What sport am I watching?

Salty Buggah says:

Looks like someone knows a bit of geometry(I’m shocked)

yankees=warriors says:

I’ve never been happier to have these Taiwanese commentators!

charlespoet says:

Ok, curious, is Joe Morgan more irritating when he is bashing the Yankees or complimenting them?

Who is more annoying as an announcer, Morgan, Phillips, kay, Sterling, Singleton, Hershiser?

In Order

1. Morgan
2. Phillips
3. Sterling
(small gap)
4. Kay
(big gap)
5. Hershiser–he actually knows what he’s talking about in terms of the pitch by pitch/mechanics stuff
(huge enormous gap)
6. Singleton–a voice that can make a wolverine purr.

Drew says:

But Matt, I have to listen to Kay for about 130 starts each season, his annoyance holds much much more weight than Phillips/Morgan who I hear maybe 6 times all year.

Drew says:

Singleton????? why is he in the conversation

TurnTwo says:

idk, Singleton and Hershiser dont belong on this list.

Yeah, I love Kenny and Orel is actually decent.

charlespoet says:

Fair enough. they were added to expand the list and because they are either local or espn. I should have removed those two and added Buck and McCarver.

Bryan V says:

I thought this was a live feed of Vatican City, and a new pope was about to be elected. WTF?

Accent Shallow says:

Alright Tex, time to make this game Wang-proof.

Drew says:

Man, sometimes swish pisses me off, but he usually has a hell of an AB.

Professor Oak says:

The thing that irritates me is how he always looks out to where he wants to hit a homerun. You just see his eyes staring at RF all the time. Either way how can you not love the guy?

Drew says:

He looks up at his grandparents, not where he wants to hit it.

Professor Oak says:

2 STRAIGHT WALKS BABY!

TEIX MESSAGE TIME!

Bryan V says:

And THAT is ball four!

And THIS is a website!

And get this…I am typing ON a keyboard!

LiveFromNewYork says:

People hang on his every word. Even the prepositions.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Game threads have been pretty free of whiny little girls lately. Apparently the fire-Girardi-this-team-sucks bandwagon has left the building.

Metsuck says:

Fire Girardi people don’t get the game

They’re still trying to figure out why the game isn’t on YES. They have no idea.

pat says:

was that a pitchout for ball 4?

BigBlueAL says:

Good job Swisher.

yankees=warriors says:

Wow, heads up play by Swish!

Nick Swisher with another baserunning blunder. He’s not an everyday player. He hit .219 last year!!!

He’s hitting .240!!!

Even Francesa realizes that Swisher’s OBP and power skills are too valuable to take out of the lineup.

Steve H says:

Tex, I expect first pitching swinging after two walks out of Cano, not you. Oh well, at least the runners moved up, even though they’ll probably walk Rodriguez.

BigBlueAL says:

The Mets are morons if they pitch to Arod.

Zach says:

The Mets are morons (period).

Bryan V says:

Cano has struggled? I thought he hit the ball hard his last two ABs.

Metsuck says:

yeah, Morgan and Phillips don’t understand that. They just read the boxscores…thats why Phillips got fired (quickly) and Morgan can’t get a managerial job.

jr says:

if they walk arod cano will ground into dp.

Conan says:

Accent Shallow says:

I can believe Alex has a .600 average against Livan. Mind freakin’ boggling.

Salty Buggah says:

Haha I knew they would walk Alex…make em pay Robbie PLEASE!!!! Yet another chance with bases juiced for him.

DGeezy says:

PLEASE DELIVER CANO! PLEASE!

Drew says:

Lets do some work on that bases loaded average there, chief!

Dela G says:

make em pay cano!

Professor Oak says:

I will laugh if Cano makes them pay for the intentional walk!

J says:

Cano is due, but he’ll into a DP. what’s up with his bases loaded numbers?! under 250 when the pitcher is forced to throw strikes?

Cano…please…make him throw you a strike first. Please. For the love of Mo, Melvin, and The Jesus.

Pasqua says:

That’s the infuriating part of it. I know he hit it hard, but Livan’s achiles heel tonight has been trouble getting it over. How you don’t make him throw at least one strike just defies logic.

Reggie C. says:

Fat baby jesus distracted Cano on that one.

Zach says:

Dela G says:

HOLY SHEET CANO

YOUVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME

e mills says:

lol…nice job robbayyy

Cano has morphed into 2008 Derek Jeter…

Bryan V says:

Another well struck ball. Damn.

Accent Shallow says:

I thought that was a single off the bat. Argh.

Reggie C. says:

Cano is so predictable.

pat says:

Ugh, he smoked that ball. FUCK

Professor Oak says:

BigBlueAL says:

WTF is it going to take to move Cano out of the god damn 5th spot in the lineup!!

TurnTwo says:

a bunt and run? really? hmm.

Conan says:

Take it easy with those kind of comments – I mentioned that yesterday and was jumped on for that kind of crazy talk.

jr says:

can we move cano from 5th spot?

Metsuck says:

Wow…how many times does he have to scald the ball for it to get through?

Jamal G. says:

Bah, he hit it hard, just right at him.

lovintheyankees says:

i fkng hate cano i rather ransom or pena wtf take a pitch hes struggling to throw strikess

Bryan V says:

You are the most negative, irrational, person here.

Drew says:

Hold on folks, allow me.

OAKTAG

LiveFromNewYork says:

the whiny girly bandwagon must have forgotten to scrape you off the road. Send them a text or something so they come back round for you.

jr says:

cano needs to bat 6th,. he would be fine there..

LiveFromNewYork says:

And that’s a doubleplay ball!

Every time I take it off mute, I regret it.

yankees=warriors says:

Cano…has officially taken Jeter’s place as the DP king…
Can he stop batting 5th?

Matty Ice says:

Cano’s ass needs to sit the next game.

3 DP balls? Unacceptable from a major league hitter.

Bill says:

BS. It’s amazing that some of you don’t understand variance and luck. He’s hit the ball hard twice and it’s just happened to go right at people. Nothing else he can do there.

Matty Ice says:

Not BS. With the way Livan was pitching this inning, he has no business jumping at the first pitch like that. Oh wait, he’s Robbie Cano….if he sees more than 3 pitches in an AB he melts.

Matty Ice says:

meant to say 3rd pitch not first

Zach says:

“With the way Livan was pitching this inning, he has no business jumping at the first pitch like that”

it was the third pitch of the AB

mjkj says:

He’s a bottom of the order hitter. He sucks in these situations

Professor Oak says:

Why swing at all on a 2-0 count…

Bryan V says:

Talk about lucky. The Yankees are hitting the holy hell out of the ball.

Ivan says:

Well that was great.

J says:

damn. unlucky there, he hit it hard. murphy’s law hits cano for today.

Salty Buggah says:

bad luck DP!!!

Cano’s impatience shows there, that was ball 3

ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

meh, that was hard up te middle; instincts took over. and Robi had a hit stolen from him by castillo earlier

Pasqua says:

I’m not a big believer in “momentum shifts” but, damn, did we just hand the Mets something to get pumped about.

Salty Buggah says:

We have absolutely crushed the ball today.

Bryan V says:

Luck for Livan…un-luck for Wang. He should have let that ball go, but instincts will getcha.

“That’s gonna throw that into a base hit”

Vague pronoun references galore.

LiveFromNewYork says:

that always throws that.

doncha know?

jr says:

wang and cano are doing a good job keeping the mets in the game

Zach says:

yeah unacceptable to give up 2 runs

yankees=warriors says:

No pitching change?

Bryan V says:

I wouldn’t say that ball was exactly “scorched”. Would you?

Drew says:

lol.. are you watching this game on television?

yankees=warriors says:

Hey, I’m not saying he’s not pitching well! But now that he’s finally gotten a chance at winning the game, why take any chances?

Drew says:

Yeah he got a little unlucky on that hit, he should’ve let it go to Jetes. I’m surprised they took him out now.

DGeezy says:

get us through this inning wang & the pen will take it from there

Salty Buggah says:

Sheff scares me..DP time please

Thank god Cano hit into a DP so people would have something new to complain about. I was going to have to put some of you guys on suicide watch if we didn’t have some sort of unfortunate result to harp on and jump to conclusions about.

Dela G says:

where is “V” when you need him…

Hey…3 Dp’s in a game is nothing to compliment…

Which is why I didn’t compliment it.

ArodMVP217 FTW! says:

Accent Shallow says:

I don’t know if this is one pitch away from 4-3, or from none on, two outs . . .

Bryan V says:

Why did Sheff bunt? I mean…the clean-up hitter bunt?

Drew says:

Dela G says:

oh damn it, why bring in phil coke?

Zach says:

martinez cant hit lefties

Salty Buggah says:

We better score some runs because we have hit the shit out of the ball.

Accent Shallow says:

Wang’s stuff hasn’t looked particularly stellar, but he’s survived a lousy Mets lineup. Can’t bitch too much.

Jackson says:

Apparently a lot of people here can

pat says:

Coke pwns the next 2 guys then phil for the 7th and 8th.

Drew says:

I would’ve let Wager go, hopefully Coke doesn’t fuck up my boy’s W.

Ivan says:

Lefty coming up.

Bill says:

Wanger only threw 85 pitches. I would have liked to see him try to finish the inning. Too bad Robbie’s ball was hit right at the SS last inning, otherwise Wanger might have gotten to finish the inning.

Slu says:

I agree. I would have let him go as well, but this is what Coke’s role is supposed to be.

I’d feel better with some insurance runs. They really needed at least one last inning.

Accent Shallow says:

I can live with it. Even ‘06-08 Wang had a very pronounced platoon split. Might as well shield him from LHB if he’s done enough.

yankees=warriors says:

Yup. But I’d say the best chance he had at a long outing was last time. I actually think he pitched better in that game.
Too bad the run support wasn’t there.

Bryan V says:

Hughes for the 7th and 8th

Stephen says:

Doctor, what should I do if the announcers make my ears bleed?

Bryan V says:

Nevermind the fact that the Yankee bullpen has to pitch a lot of their innings in a freakin Little League field.

TurnTwo says:

and if they pitch better, they wont give up the HRs.

i think the better stat or discussion would be to determine how many of those bullpen HRs were given up in April and May vs. June.

Accent Shallow says:

Phil, if you walk Martinez . . .

Tony says:

Wang didn’t look as good as he did versus Atlanta. That said, I’m not a fan of Girardi’s micromanaging. I think you let Wang try to deal with Martinez. It’s 3-2, you’ve won the first two already, and the most important thing for the Yankees the next few weeks is to get Wang right.

But that’s me. Decent start, not as good as Atlanta, but showing steady improvement. That said, a tougher test next time with Toronto, who has seen him plenty.

Drew says:

I thought you wanted Wang gone like 3 innings ago?

I’d agree with all that. I thought he pitched better against Atlanta as well, but this start wasn’t bad.

In any event, it’s time to take the training wheels off and just demote Phil and stop with the start-by-start referendum for Wang. Unless he reverts back to the Wang of April, he’s in the rotation. And Phil’s in Scranton, starting and getting his innings in.

Make it happen, fellas.

Dela G says:

my bad for doubting you coke

that was a MONEY… MONEY strike out

LiveFromNewYork says:

Tyler Kepner just tweeted that AND it’s a Pepsi park.

charlespoet says:

So people hate Cano for the DP and think Pena would be better? Um, I don’t even know how to respond.

And then blaming Wang for giving up 2 runs? If Wang had done that from the beginning of the, season he would be 7-3, at least.

Wow, I thought the sun was hot here today.

Ivan says:

Lets go Hughes.

Accent Shallow says:

Hughes in to pitch to Omir Santos seems the definition of overmanaging.

(And as I look it up, I see Santos has an OPS >.800 against LHP. One problem: 32 PAs!)

Drew says:

I wonder if we see Brunester in back to back days. Pitcher due up 4th

Bryan V says:

Not after only 1 pitch.

Dela G says:

Phil hughes

1 pitch

1 out

that is GEICO MONEY!

DGeezy says:

well done Phils

Salty Buggah says:

Phil(s)!!!!!!!!!!!!
