Axisa, you better brush up on your International Signing Date Guys. I know you hate them, but you better learn to love them.

Here is the latest from Kiley McDaniel at BP – http://www.baseballprospectus......ed/?p=1327

“10:25 AM: It’s been confirmed to me that the Yankees have signed Dominican catcher Gary Sanchez, although I still haven’t been able to get a concrete number on the bonus. Every estimate has been very close to $3.0 million and I was told today that was the correct number, give or take a bit. So it’s basically $3.0 million, Yankee fans. Also, I’m told the Yankees will be spending $4 million total this July 2nd, on three players, and I’m told the other two players are a shortstop and pitcher. The shortstop is widely believed to be Damian Arredondo, who should be getting a bonus in the $800-850,000 range (report on him in the today’s article) and some think the pitcher is Venezuelan righty Jose Osuna. Deductive math would say that, if it’s Osuna, he would get $150-200,000, which is about where I had his potential bonus pegged, anyway. I’ll keep digging on this one.”

Yankee1010 says:

And Arangure has the Yanks signing Christopher Cabrera for $400,000 and Patrick at Pinstripes Plus has him signing for $450,000.

http://twitter.com/jorgearangure – BB pegged this one RT @BenBadler #Yankees making their moves. Hearing Dominican RHP Christopher Cabrera to the Yankees for $400K

Mike bk says:

if mcdaniel’s number of 4 mil total on only 3 players is right there will be a lot of angry yankee fans

Tom Zig says:

Maybe I am just being greedy, but I will be kind of disappointed if its only 3 players.

pat says:

Me too, I’m of the “outspend errbody” vein. Spend like 8 mil buy sano, buy sanchez, buy fuentes. JUST DO IT.

Tom Zig says:

I mean its only money, we aren’t wasting draft picks or anything. Why not flex our financial might and just go wild with the IFAs?

pat says:

Sounds like a plan to me Zig. The only thing I wonder is if they start going crazy and signing everybody there might be more of an outcry for an international draft. If the Yanks let a few guys slip to the smaller teams you can keep them happy and the yankees can still keep it an open market and get first crack at all the big names.

Tom Zig says:

So you say we sign Mateo, Sano, and Sanchez and then the funny named guys TSJC liked and call it a day?

Or would that be the Yankees ruining baseball?

pat says:

Oh we’re friggin destroying the very moral fabric baseball was conceived on. BWHAHAHAHAH

I’m not so sure we’re only going to sign three players. I’m quite certain we’re signing more than that. Take a look at these two sentences Read them out loud, if necessary.

“Also, I’m told the Yankees will be spending $4 million total this July 2nd, on three players, and I’m told the other two players are a shortstop and pitcher. “

OR

“Also, I’m told the Yankees will be spending $4 million total this July 2nd on three players, and I’m told the other two players are a shortstop and pitcher. “

Remove one comma, a comma that could have been a typo or an accidental correction by a copy editor, and the sentence changes from “We’re only signing three players total” to “We’re only spending a certain amount of money on these three players total”. The latter sentence doesn’t say these are the only guys we’re signing, just that these three guys we’re signing will be paid a total of 4M. It leaves open the possibility (or, more likely, the probability) that there’s other guys that will be signed outside of this big three.

agreed, which is why i said above if it was the 4 million and 3 players total then people would be upset. if its 4 mil on those and there are others then we will wait and see the final totals.

little update I missed…

the Yankees have signed RHP Chris Cabrera for $400,000, and it was confirmed that the Yankees reached a deal with SS Damian Arredondo for $850,000.

Mike bk says:

so that either means 4 players at least or 3 plays for 4.25 mil

Yankee1010 says:

McDaniel’s latest update has them signing Sanchez – 3 million, Arredondo – 850,000 and Cabrera – $400,000 with no Osuna.

While every fan would love the Yanks to just completely load up on IFAs, I think they walk a fine line between using their financial advantage to pick up a lot of premium guys and then hoarding so many that it really unites the other 29 teams against them and the process is changed.

Plus, I highly doubt that these are the only 3 IFAs they will sign. Maybe they are the only 3 they will sign today, but guys like Aceves, Banuelos, Duran, Vazquez, Miranda, etc. were not actually signed on July 2nd.

Also, they might be storing some money for Chapman.

Mike bk says:

the sox are set from reports i have seen to spend at least 6 mil, so lets not claim that the yanks going after players will unite the other teams. i dont even care if its not sano or mateo or pimintel though i would like any of them, but they can certainly spend money on a series of these lower cap guys and not just sign 3 or 4 guys cause with that you are probably only looking at 1 or 2 legit players.

Mike bk says:

also chapman probably wont be eligible to be signed until may next year
