Yanks overcome Robinson's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day to drop Jays in 12

What? Don’t look at me like that, it’s a holiday. I’m allowed one of these once in a while.

  • Triple-A Scranton‘s game was postponed because the field was a swamp. They’ll play two tomorrow.
  • Double-A Trenton and New Britain are tied at 6 in the 11th inning as of this writing. New Britain took the lead in the top of the 10th, but Eduardo Nunez smacked a 2 run job to tie in the bottom half. Jesus Montero is 0 for 4 at the moment.
  • Austin Romine took an 0-fer as High-A Tampa fell 4-0 to Lakeland.
  • Low-A Charleston broke out the whoopin’ stick on Asheville, pounding them for a 14-4 victory. Jose Pirela went 3 for 6 with 3 doubles while Corban Joseph went 4 for 6 with 3 XBH and 4 steaks. Manny Banuelos allowed 1 run and 5 baseunners in 6 innings.
  • Short Season Staten Island squeaked by Lowell 2-0. Kyle Higashioka doubled and Neil Medchill drove in a pair of runs while everyone who took the mound did a terrific job.
  • Kelvin DeLeon went deep and Jose Mojica ripped a pair of doubles as the Rookie GCL Yanks downed the GCL Pirates 4-2. Matt Richardson was excellent on the mound again, and Mikey O’Brien made his season debut in relief.

Did anyone else notice that milb had credited Christian Garcia with the .2 IP line in the Trenton game earlier and then changed it to Valdez? I was so confused/excited for a second.

  • A.D.

Lassiter is quietly having a real solid first full season, wish they were playing him at SS/could stay there.

  • Jake H

Matt Richardson has been awesome so far.

  • Manimal

LIES, Its because its your shift at MLBTR.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I’ve done DotF while covering there. Just last night in fact.

      • Manimal

LOL you know I’m just fooling around, and yes, you do deserve and occasional lazy-man’s DotF because of all the hard work you put into them especially now when there are the short season leagues as well.

  • Derby

I was reading that Mitre may be a possible option for Wang’s rotation spot since both Hughes and Aceves aren’t stretched out enough for a starting pitcher. Do you think his success at AAA can translate well into MLB? I know it’s not a huge sample size, but he’s had exceptional control in scranton.

    • A.D.

He was able to throw up an ERA of 4.65 in ’07 in the majors

      • Derby

I’ll take a 4.65 for a 5th starter for the time being. If he can keep it under a 5 we should be fine.

        • A.D.

Figure Wang is rocking a 10 ERA, and a 5.5 in the last month, so the replacement isn’t that hard.

    • Jake K.

      His MLB track record is not very good. ERA+ of 81, 3.1 BB/9, 5.4 K/9, 10.8 H/9.

      • V

That’s PERFECTLY fine for a fill-in fifth starter.

With all the catchers the Yanks will have in the system next year, especially with Gary Sanchez coming straight to the states should be interesting how it plays out, i’d say:

    AAA Montero
    AA Romine
    A+ Jump Higashioka, or filler
    A Higashioka/JR Murphy
    SS Murphy/Sanchez
    R Sanchez

Figure with Murphy being a 2nd round pick they may want him in full season ball next year, they put Lassiter there this year, but otherwise lock for SS such as Higashioka is this year. Then they can pair 2 guys such as Montero & Romine had been as necessary.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      AAA: Montero
      AA: Romine
      A+: ?
      A-: Higashioka
      SS: Murphy
      Rk: Sanchez

      • A.D.

No Murphy in full season, even with what is suppose to be a good bat.

        • DreDog

          Chase Weems?

    • Januz

Don’t forget the Australian kid Kyle Perkins they signed last year, he is yet another catching possibility.
What this team is doing is taking a page out of the Texas Rangers playbook, and stacking up at the catching position. I still think that when all is said and done, Austin Romine will be the guy to replace Posada (The idea of the son of a RED SOX player being the starting YANKEE catcher in 2011 is very appealing).

  • Brett

Jesus was 0-4? what a bust! glad I’m Jewish

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    Wait.

    Guys.

    I’m confused about AA.

    How does this work?

” * Reegie Corona flies out to center fielder Rene Tosoni.
    * Eduardo Nunez singles on a ground ball to shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz.
    * Jorge Vazquez singles on a ground ball to right fielder Juan Portes. Eduardo Nunez to 2nd.
    * Kyle Anson grounds into double play, second baseman Brian Dinkelman to shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz to first baseman Whitney Robbins. Jorge Vazquez out at 2nd. ”

Montero hits in between Vazquez and Anson, no?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

      Figured it out, never mind.

  • Charlie

    Boooo

  • RollingWave

On the bright side, he did catch another guy stealing today (1 for 2) which probably pushs his CS% over 30. wow.

    I meant Heathcott.

  • ArodMVP217 Retire 51

nice, Brooks Pounders got roughed up in GCL!

  • Game-On

Don’t forget about Arcia (GCL catcher)…..he is a very, very good ballplayer!
