Well, that’s just his first walk. That’s definitely a plus. Now let’s get the next two.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Again, Joba > Pat.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Completely overmatched Pat The Fat right there.

(they call him Pat The Fat instead of Pat The Bat now, because he’s fat)

      Clever.

      • jersey

pat burrell is fat? lol as opposed to who? kruk? garces? fernando valenzuela? cecil fielder? prince fielder? poor nickname in my opinion

      HAHA!

wow rays finally spend some money sign a free agent and they get pat “the hack” burrell… ouch! but look on the bright side maybe that tied up money ull force them to cut crawford loose (bright side for the yanks that is)

  • Mikebk

if Joba keeps going like this they will send him to nebraska for 4 days between every start.

    • Dela G

like they did with roger clemens

  • nyrfan

if they talk about this one more inning i may actually put my tv on mute

Do the Rays lead the league in Gabe’s?

        Ah, Babe Ruth’s gay brother.

Let’s go, Joba. Get Gross here and let the offense pick up some runs!

  • SouthernYankeeFan

Joba WTF? I can has strikes?

  • Salty Buggah

    damnit Joba…stop walking them

  • Accent Shallow

At least walking Gross gets to Navarro.

Then again, Navarro hit the ball hard.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

That is ridiculous that was clearly a swinging strike that burrell had. 3rd base ump was blind!

    Dear Kay:

Any time Will Carroll’s comparing you to Mike Prior and Doc Gooden in terms of injury history, it’s probably not a good thing.

  • Mike Pop

Joba or Garza for the long term?

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Garza probably has the longer career; Joba the better peak

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

What do you mean when you say longer career? How long…?

    • Accent Shallow

Call me a homer, but I go with Joba.

      It was pretty awesome.

    • Dela G

      yeah agreed

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Cano hurt the ball physically so Garza had to fill the emotional void.

    • Salty Buggah

really? He literally waved to the ball

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah. It wasn’t a side to side wave, it was more of a fingers going up and down wave.

      • Mikebk

        i have been obviously…lol
is there any reason it took so long for them to call him up to high A when he could have been there about 3-4 weeks earlier?

  • danny

heh i dont get swish, one day he makes that catch look impossible to make then the next day he makes the catch easily

  • Accent Shallow

    • Dela G

      i dont care

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

  • Jeff

I swear i just heard Kay say “92-93 mph” fastball is plenty good…. what happened to him b*tch*** all season long about him not throwing as hard.. I hate that guy!!

    • Pasqua

Because when he says the 92 MPH fastball is “plenty good” he is collecting his paycheck from YES. On his radio show, when ESPN is his boss, that fastball is not good enough. What I mean to say is, Kay treads lightly when he’s calling the games. He’s a different person on his radio show…but often equally as annoying.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Joba so didn’t realize that was the third out of the inning

    • danny

cause of the no fist pump, right?

  • Ivan

Joba is just dominating the Ray rite now.

By the way, if ur rooting for the Rays, it doesn’t get easier with folks with Hughes and Mo lurking.

  • Dela G

    nice job joba!

  • Mikebk

if they stop him at 130 that means only 3-4 more starts which would be mid August and with Ace having the sore arm dont they have to stretch phil and basically swap he and joba in 3 weeks?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      They should, yes.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Given how the schedule and rotation lines up, I bet they skip his next start on the 3rd (it’s a scheduled off day). That way you can use Pettitte and Mitre against the Blue Jays on the 4th and 5th, then run AJ, CC and Joba out there against the Sox on the 6th-8th.

If they start him on the 4th, then you’re throwing Mitre in the first game against the Sox.

      • Salty Buggah

or they can skip Mitre I guess, but I like your idea better

      • Mikebk

ok i saw that i figure that happens, but then we are still talking before the end of august, especially if he is going 7 per start as he has in the 2nd half.

        • Mikebk

i count likely the 8th vs bos, 13 @sea, 18@oak. by then you are at 130 if he goes 6 per.

  • nyrfan

    a bomb from a rod

  • Dela G

    guesstability?

    new word from Michael kay

  • danny

do they take into account the stress level of the inning? like how can they count the 1st inning in his innings limit when he only threw 10 pitches with ease?

    • Mikebk

if you want to go there how about those starts where he was always in trouble and throwing 20+ pitches an inning. should they count double then?

      • danny

heh good point, i didnt think of it that way lol

        • Mikebk

it hopefully balances over the course of the year.

      • Mikebk

if he can get out the 8th under 100 girardi might give him a shot at the CG SO.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Doubt it. They didn’t let Hughes go for the CG in Texas.

          • Mikebk

i agree it probably wont happen and i was very pissed about pulling hughes in TX.

Bruney the 9th if the score stays here?

    • Chip

Difference between Ransom and Gardner isn’t all that much if you discount the stolen base threat

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

I don’t understand why we can’t pinch run him for two weeks. We could still use his speed, just not his bat or glove.

      • danny

maybe later on, but ur risking him hurting his hand even more

      • Salty Buggah

That’s a waste of a roster spot. Might as well sign Usain Bolt for that little time. I’m sure he can take out 2-3 weeks to run for us. And he can train there too. it’s not like he will be used everytime or for long.

      • danny

        c’mon joba, just one more.

  • BigBlueAL

With this whole innings thing, you’re honestly tellin me that Joba will not be part of the playoff rotation even though he is by far the 3rd best starter on this team??

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Not necessarily. They could give him most of September off, give him a few tune up starts at the end of the year and have him strong, well rested and under his innings limit for the season. You could give those starts to Aceves, Mitre or one of the September call ups.

This would require them to have a comfortable lead for making the playoffs, and as of now they do.

Strong 8 innings right there i wanna see the complete game this is his game.

  • Accent Shallow

That was a nice 8th inning from Joba.

8 inning 3-hitter. That was beautiful.

With only two walks, as well. Great game all around for Joba.

      LECHE!

  • Drew

    Hughes to teh 9th!

  • VO

Joba comes out for the 9th?

    • Mike Pop

      Man, I wish.

  • Mikebk

girardi is going to pitch hughes in the 9th so when JP calls Cash up Cash can ask if he saw what those two beasts did tonight and then hang up.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I would love for Joba to pitch the 9th but the PC might be too high.

  • Steve H

That is why Joba belongs in the 8th. Did you see that, didn’t even give up a run that inning.

    • Mike Pop

Tonight, he was the starter and set-up man. But, wouldn’t he be more valuable for just one inning?

      Leche!!!

  • Teix is the Man

If he skips his next start, he might be able to finish this game as well as face the Socks

  • V

So, yeah, everybody, let’s trade Joba+Montero for less than 1.5 years of Halladay.

    • http://forums.projectcovo.com/images/smilies/e6omir.gif OmgZombies!

      Add in Hughes also.

  • tampayankee

Bush league not letting Joba finish the game 1 stupid inning will not ruin him. it makes up for those 3 and 4 inning games early in the season. The Yankeesa baby their pitchers way to much.

    • Mikebk

he is only going 150 this year. he is at 110 now. probably only 3-4 more starts and then back to the pen to close the year. hopefully hughes moves into his slot.

    • Steve H

ummm, glad you don’t work for the Yankees.

    • Accent Shallow

I can live with pulling him. They’re up 6, let Bruney get some work in.

2-3 years from now, Joba is finishing this game.

  • Ivan

I thought Joba was ok not great. He did enough and to be honest he wasn’t dominate enough. I mean he did threw a 8 inning 3 hitter to a team that got perfect’d by Mark Buehrle who I don’t know or care but he’s a top flight pitcha. So I give a Joba a 6. I think he would marvelous in the pen to be honest.

Crybaby Youkilis just threw hit helmet and slammed his bat on the ground after striking out again.

Too bad Manny isn’t there to smack him in the face for it again.

    • Ivan

  • Mike Pop

David Price is an official reliever now, or just getting work in?

At least somebody knows how tah run a basebawl team.

Cashman wouldn’t know a pitchah if he fell on him. Torre told me so, and Joe was a mastah wit dah bullpen.

  • Salty Buggah

    YAY! more stat-padding!

  • Dela G

    YOURE ON THE MARK TEIXEIRA!

Wheeler challenges A-Rod so he doesn’t have to face DH Cody Ransom.

That’s almost as smart as Jerry Manuel pitching to Derek Jeter with Mariano Rivera on deck.

  • Salty Buggah

cmon Bruney…do NOT make Mo get up.

    stat padding triple

  • Mikebk

that was fucking lazy by swish…cant do that shit with crawford.

    Bruney’s all over the joint.

  • danny

c’mon Bruney, dont make it interesting.

  • A.D.

Are there options left on Bruney?

  • Mike Pop

I hate when relievers blow shutouts…

  • Accent Shallow

Bruney, it’s 6-0. Just throw freakin’ strikes.

    • Zach

not that good of a strike

    • For lack of a more creative name… Alex

Well, that didn’t exactly work.. now what?

  • Mikebk

girardi is such a panic button guy. its 6-0 w one on and already he has mo stretching.

at least hughes was warm, so he would be quicker.

    • A.D.

Eh with Bruney lately its inevitable.

    • V

      Yeah, um… yeah.

  • E-ROC

    Throw a strike, please.

    • Chip

      Not that one

  • Mikebk

so much for Bruney being back.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I miss the old Bruney. What a fuckin’ shot by Longo.

  • danny

    wow, that was crushed

  • Pasqua

Oh, how quickly we are reminded of how fragile it all is.

  • V

    God damn it Bruney.

Back to the back of the bullpen you go.

I have NO faith in this schlub at this point. He’s behind Robertson and Melancon on the depth chart.

  • suppository

    bruney is not right.

    • dygg

      K-Rod got in his head.

  • SouthernYankeeFan

That is frustrating i wanted the shutout

  • Bob Stone

Damn. Bruney has work to do.

  • Dela G

man i cannot wait for next year when crawford is a FA

  • Mike Pop

    BP pitch

  • nyrfan

    bruney sucks

  • Salty Buggah

damn Bruney trying to hurt our Run differential

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

This is NOT GOOD for Bruney’s confidence.

  • Andy Stankiewicz

If you can’t finish off a game with a 6 run game then you are pretty much useless right?

  • Manimal

I still think he should be in Scranton working on his mechanics and arm strength

  • V

Ok, Swisher is just a dumb outfielder. He’s just… stupid out there.

He’s got range, but damn, wtf was that, blocking Melky from the ball?

  • SouthernYankeeFan

Swisher is ahead of Bruney on my bullpen depth chart.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Urge to kill rising…

  • Tony

Swisher cracks me up, and then make me angry, but then I realize that I’m laughing.

8:16pm: Comments from GM Mark Shapiro after the Lee deal would seem to indicate he’s ready to deal Victor Martinez for the right offer. However, Rosenthal and Morosi at FOX Sports say that aside from the Red Sox, there’s been a considerable lack of interest in the slugger. The Giants appear to be out of the mix with their recent upgrades, and it’s apparently “doubtful” that teams will come forward with a big offer for Martinez.

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/will-victor-martinez-be-next-to-go.html

Praying this happens. Should take the Sox out of the Halladay mix. Then we make an offer we can live with and see if its enough.

  • danny

and now MO is going to pitch

    grr.

  • VO

I think we have a new Veras. It can’t be rust anymore. Either he’s doing something terribly wrong or he has simply lost it.
