  1. Salty Buggah says:

I hope he’s alright. He was kinda good today beside the last inning.

Now, can we PUHLEASE score some runs!

  2. OmgZombies! says:

I’ve seen it all. People are actually defending someone with a 10 ERA.

    • Zach says:

were people defending Alex when he was hitting .212? Thats what you do when you talk about someone who has a track record

      • OmgZombies! says:

He still had a very good OBP despite his low average and we didnt have a younger more capable player waiting.

        • Zach says:

right, you pick out one thing in ARod’s game that was good and focused on it. He couldnt hit an inside pitcher, outside pitch, or pitch down the middle. THat’s not difference then looking at Wang and seeing improvement from where he was and wanting to give him more then 3 starts before saying cut/trade him

          • Arman Tamzarian says:

His defense was stunning as well

          • OmgZombies! says:

The difference was Arod had a 1.000 OPS for a while when he came back despite the low average. He slumped for a while and is getting back to form. Dont compare Arods track record to Wangs, thats down right silly. Wang has not showed a dominant start that we seen from previous years.

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

I think people are defending an asset that had a ton of value at one point and hoping it reestablishes it’s value for the Yankees or for a trade

      • Lanny says:

What do you expect here? The Wang apologists will stop at nothing to defend him. The excuses are plentiful. The facts are the facts. The teams record when he pitches is terrible.

        • handtius says:

facts are facts, you only show up when the yankees are losing.

        • Zach says:

since hes been back the team is 2-3 in his starts. 1 game they got shut out and one game they scored 2 runs

  3. A.D. says:

    Bruney warming, like the idea.

  4. gxpanos says:

Just got home. How was Wanger’s stuff today?

Sucks about the injury. Maybe Hughes will get some extended time in the rotation.

  5. Bob Stone says:

    Go Melky!!!

  6. Dorian says:

Gardner pop-ups really grind my gears

  7. CP3 says:

Wang got a midsection injury on mlb.com

  8. Dela G says:

well bruney lets the hit parade going

  9. Mike Axisa says:

Bruney’s giving up rockets of late. Whenever he starts to go on a little roll, he gets hurt.

  10. A.D. says:

Bruney’s back to throwing when he was fat

  11. Tony says:

Maybe I won’t have to watch Wang rehab in the majors anymore.

    • Lanny says:

You don’t like seeing a team punt every 5th day while a guy with a 10 ERA starts???

  12. Dela G says:

lol at walking ADAM LIND. I don’t care if he’s on fire, pitch to the damn guy

  13. Mike Axisa says:

No good can come from this intentional walk. Rolen’s en fuego.

Of course it won’t matter, Bruney will probably walk him because guys always struggle to throw strikes after IBBing someone.

  14. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Again, Wang’s last three starts before this one:

    v WSN: 5.0, 3R, 4SO, 2BB, 12:2 GB:FB, 91 PI.
    @ ATL: 5.0, 3R, 4SO, 1BB, 7:7 GB:FB, 62 PI.
    @ NYM: 5.1, 2R, 3SO, 3BB, 13:3 GB:FB, 85 PI.

    Adding today’s:

    v TOR: 5.1, 4R, 1SO, 1BB, 11:6 GB:FB, 66 PI.

That’s not a 10 ERA. That’s 12 R in 20.2 IP, which comes out to a 5.34 ERA. Sure, it’s not pretty, but that’s about what you’d want a 4th starter to provide. And considering at least one outing was cut short by an injury (which may or may not have contributed to two runs), and another was shortened by the NL, his numbers should probably look a little better than that.

Wang was rushed back from an injury that was not properly treated by the Yankees, and roster rules (with a dash of panic over the Joba line drive) prevented his rehabbing it fully in the minors and instructional leagues, as he should have. That’s another thing to take into consideration. It’s not that Wang has been bad because of brute ineffectiveness – he has been bad because it doesn’t seem like he’s come all the way back from last year’s injury.

This does not excuse his performance, not by any means. And in an ideal world, yes, you have Wang work out his injury problems somewhere that isn’t the majors. But since we’re not in an ideal world, you live with what you have, and that’s a 5th starter in a rotation that’s already stacked with two potential 1st starters, and a 3rd who is currently pitching like a 2nd or 3rd starter with 1st starter potential. You can more than get by with that when you have the top offense in the league.

  15. Lanny says:

At least the Bruney 8th inning stuff is now over.

  16. Riddering says:

If Bruney gets out of this inning without giving up 1-2 runs I will personally attach a pornstache to my face for the weekend.

  17. Jose says:

Yankees win this game. No way do they squander the runs that they have scored.

  18. OmgZombies! says:

If they can hold it to 5-3 its still very winnable

  19. Dela G says:

wow what a play by cano!

  20. Bob Stone says:

    Bruney just got VERY lucky

  21. Salty Buggah says:

    Let the scoring commence!

  22. Tony says:

It’s sad, but the Yankees have made me despise “God Bless America”

    It’s F’d out.

  23. Ivan says:

Well the yanks got the top of the order up, so lets go.

  24. bobtaco says:

So if Wang is hurt, and Hughes replaces him in the rotation, who is the 8th inning guy?

    Melancon time yet?

  25. Bob Stone says:

Over at NESN the announcers are talking about how Red Sox players and fans are rooting for Wakefield to make the All-Star Team. I hate the Red Sox but I actually hope Wake makes the squad

    • Zach says:

He’s not going to make it. They already have Bay, Pedroia, Youk, Papelbon, and Beckett going; they’re not going add a pitcher with a 4.30 era with and ERA+ of 108

    • Tony says:

Speaking of Wakefield, how pathetic is it that one of the “Big 5″ has Tim Wakefield at the top of all their franchise pitching leaderboards?

Bob Gibson, Whitey Ford, or Tim Wakefield?

  26. A.D. says:

Strained right shoulder either sounds real bad or real minor.

  27. Salty Buggah says:

Gameday says CMW left because of an injured neck/shoulder

  28. Dorian says:

Here we come. The Good Yankee teams normally find a way to win this game.

  29. Ivan says:

Well Phil Hughes come on down, ur the next contestant on the next starting yankee pitcher.

  30. Bob Stone says:

Maybe that neck/shoulder problem has been there subterraneously all year.

  31. Jamal G. says:

    Positively, DAMONIC!

  32. A.D. says:

    /band boxed

  33. CP3 says:

    YEAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  34. Dorian says:

    I fucking love this Ballpark

  35. Ivan says:

    OH YEAH DAMON, OH YEAH.

  36. Mike Axisa says:

Love those Yankee Stadium cheapies. And people complain about this park?

  37. bobtaco says:

    Johnny Rocket… better than Damon-ic

  38. A.D. says:

Hughes to the rotation, or Mitre up?

  39. Jake H says:

    HR baby!

  40. Salty Buggah says:

    DAMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Bob Stone says:

    ALL RIGHT Damon

  42. Dela G says:

    DAMON BABY!!!

  43. Shdwrptr says:

That bases loaded no runs is looking huge now

  44. Cokie says:

How you like the new ballpark now Roy?

  45. Ivan says:

Come on though that hr would of been gone in the old Yankee stadium.

  46. Dela G says:

wow i still can’t believe we got 5 off this guy

  47. YankeeScribe says:

    bandbox

  48. Dorian says:

Who pitches the 8th with CMW headed for the DL? Do you still go to Hughes?

  49. Bob Stone says:

Now the experts can say that Wang kept us in a game against Halladay

  50. Dela G says:

    A-rod with another single!

    Let’s GET GET IT YANKEES!

  51. Jamal G. says:

Hmm, have MLB teams always played ARod to pull so much?

  52. CP3 says:

Yes cano coming up without risp!!!!!!!

  53. Dela G says:

maybe they can get whatever has been ailing cano with runners on base out of his eye!

  54. e mills says:

If they win, Kruk’s going to say no way they could’ve beaten Halladay unless it was for that “Yankee Stadium” HR by Damon

  55. Dela G says:

does anyone wonder how Brandon League’s ERA isn’t lower than it is even though he throws 96-99 with an assload of movement?

    • Zach says:

he had a couple blow up games

      6/12 1 IP 5 R
      5/4 2 IP 3 R
      4/17 2 IP 3 R
      4.15 1 IP 3 R

      • Dela G says:

        incredible, huh?

i saw him pitch in toronto earlier this season and was really impressed

i guess he has that “electric stuff/no control” problem

  56. Dela G says:

never mind on the cano thing

  57. AJ says:

    I’m done with Cano.

  58. e mills says:

I think Street makes his way to the Yankees now if Wang hits the DL

    • zs190 says:

Why would the Rockies trade him to us? Everything I’ve read suggest they are actually looking for 2 bullpen arms for a playoff run, trading their closer and best bullpen arms does not make sense at all. They would really have to fall on their face this month for this to have any chance.

    • A.D. says:

Prob Qualls, more available and cheaper

  59. Shdwrptr says:

At least Halladay is done for the day

  60. Salty Buggah says:

small sample or not RObbie Cano is NOT a 5th batter!

  61. MOOSE NUTS says:

Cano is fuckin dead to me.

If you can’t hit with men on base and in the clutch, then you cant be a Yankee. Plain and simple.

We should trade this fuckin stooge while we can still get some value for him.

He’s a 24/7 head case – always has been, always will be.

  62. Riddering says:

I think Cano needs two days rest.

  63. Ivan says:

The Philthys is pretty solid nickname.

  64. Bob Stone says:

    Nice inning Phil

  65. TJ says:

We need a starter now, who’s out there for the taking?

  66. Shdwrptr says:

Good inning by Hughes. They were being VERY aggressive.

  67. Dela G says:

Hey has anyone noticed the umpires aren’t there today?

  68. Cokie says:

What is a “shoulder strain” anyway? My understanding is that muscles “strain” and ligamets can be sprained or torn. A shoulder strain then could actually mean a deltoid muscle strain, which is minor and does not involve structural damage to the shoulder joint. Of course, it could also mean that whoever reported the injury has no clue.

    • Zach says:

He has more then just a regular sore shoulder obviously, they obviously wont know until the MRI.

    • zs190 says:

I think strain is just the general statement for when the shoulder doesn’t feel right, that’s why they are taking a MRI to check it out. It could be a mild muscle strain or it could be something much more serious, we don’t know yet.

  69. Bob Stone says:

If the game is still tied at the top of the ninth I hope they bring back Phil instead of going to Mo.

  70. Ivan says:

Lets say Wang goes on DL, would the yanks take Hughes out of the BP and put him in the rotation?

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

Gotta figure, other than Mitre who is not on the 40 man, who do you bring up, I guess Aceves, but I imagine they like him where he is

  71. Jamal G. says:

I love when Roy Halladay gets pissed off. I remember when he was steaming pissed that Melky hit a go-ahead HR off of him in either April 2007 or 2008. He was shouting at Melky to get back in the dugout because it was an old Yankee Stadium cheapie.

  72. TJ says:

Keep hughes as the 8th man, or move him to starter and trade for an 8th inning guy

  73. e mills says:

for all the #’s folks, which I am not, wouldn’t Cano’s, I guess, clutchiness or hitting with runners on from the 5th spot, even out at some point?

    • Little Bill says:

It will because of variance. Players always go through hot and cold streaks. Yankee fans should know that from watching Cano over the past 2 years. But some people just insist on overreacting to every bad stretch. Just look at the people declaring the Yankees dead after a mini slump in June.

  74. Little Bill says:

Looks like the “CANO CAN’T HIT 5TH AND HE’S NOT CLUTCH!” debate has replaced “JOBA TO THE BULLPEN” “POSADA CAN’T CALL A GAME AND CERVELI SHOULD START!” AND “A-ROD IS FINISHED!” as the new flavor of the week. I can’t wait until Robbie turns hot and his bad streak corrects itself. It always does.

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

Once Cano recovers, what’s the next debate? I’m looking at Phil Hughes is a bust when he struggles to put together good starts initially.

  75. TJ says:

Aceves as a starter maybe, trade for another pen arm

  76. Dorian says:

I hate Michael Kay and his cheesy sayings but the Philthy’s is a pretty cool nickname.

  77. Dela G says:

why don’t we just bring up a guy from scranton instead of trading?

  78. Dela G says:

hahahaha did cone just mention KEI IGAWA?

  79. Dorian says:

Was that a Kei Igawa mention I just heard?

  80. Mike Axisa says:

Yep, that Matsui’s washed up. Right Dela G? ;)

  81. Salty Buggah says:

Anyone one know if there are possible ways to watch recent episodes of This Week in Baseball online? I wanted to watch today’s Gehrig special but couldn’t. It’s not on Hulu.

  82. Kevin G. says:

    Please, no Igawa.

  83. pat says:

hahah matsui is so done as a professional baseball player.

  84. Little Bill says:

That Matsui guy sure is hitting well these days. But I thought people declared him done after he had a cold streak. I can’t wait until Cano gets hot.

  85. Dorian says:

Oh No Cone is a B-Hugheser

  86. e mills says:

    damn Boston losing….nice

  87. Zach says:

When are we bringing up Duncan to replace Matsui?!!?

    /irrational yankee fan

  88. Shdwrptr says:

I really hope Hinske replaces Ransom as the DH if his at bat comes up…

  89. Jake says:

Is it just me or does Michael Kay regularly use words wrong in an attempt to seem superior to everyone else?

  90. Tony says:

Am I high, or are people saying someone other than Hughes should replace CMW if he’s hurt?

    • Zach says:

      both?

    • Little Bill says:

I don’t know why they would. Hughes has been lights out in the bullpen and he’s far more valuable as a starter. Too bad for Wang but Hughes needs to be starting.

  91. TJ says:

Or, sign Pedro and add a bat and a RP in the market.

    • Tom Zig says:

      sign Pedro

      not happening

      add a bat

no need. Any bat worth while would cost way too much

and a RP in the market

      I like this

  92. Mike Axisa says:

Why not pinch hit Swisher there?

  93. pat says:

Wang to the DL Melancon up Phil to the rotation

  94. e mills says:

Gardner is out of his league today

  95. gxpanos says:

Sorry everybody, I got home after Wanger was injured. How was his stuff in the first 5 innings? Better? Gameday had his velocity still low 90′s (before the injury)…was hoping he’d be able to dial it up a little more by now.

    Sink? Control?

  96. Ivan says:

How do the yanks score runs with a washed up Matsui and a over the hill A-Rod.

  97. Dela G says:

oh well, the yankees will have to “walk it out” to win the game :)

  98. Salty Buggah says:

damn, we didn’t capitalize. Gardner seems to have gone cold again.

    • Little Bill says:

And many thought he was the second coming of Joe Dimaggio after his 5-6 game. These things always have a way of correcting themselves.

      • Salty Buggah says:

I don’t where you keep getting these things from. Many? No one, maybe 1 person thought anything about Gardner except that he had been playing well. Trust me, he’ll get hot again.

  99. Dorian says:

So what we gon do? Is it a good problem to have the best option for the bullpen and the Starting Rotation be the same guy?

  100. Shdwrptr says:

Does Girardi not realize Mo sucks in a tie game? The rest of the fanbase knows it

  101. TJ says:

Maybe Hughes should stay as the 8th inning guy, may depend on who’s available. Aceves maybe. Ramiro Mendoza type.

  102. dygg says:

    Tomko’s still on the roster?

  103. Bob Stone says:

I hate it when they bring in Mo in these tie game situations. Why not bring back Hughes for the 9th?

  104. dygg says:

Hughes to the rotation. Mendoza out of retirement, and to the pen.

  105. CP3 says:

Who will have the walk off today on the yanks?

  106. Jamal G. says:

I would’ve liked to see Phil Hughes pitch the 9th, but I get why Joe Girardi didn’t – with the top of the order due up for the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th, he wants this inning locked the fuck down.

  107. Dela G says:

i don’t get why we don’t use hughes for 2 and mo for the rest in case something happens…

  108. Ivan says:

Don’t worry guys Mo got this

  109. Zach says:

Well atleast this stops Francesa and his bullpen talk, unless he starts going through rosters to try and find a ’4th-5th starter type’ to move Joba to the bullpen

  110. TJ says:

Boston still tied 2-2 top 9 Seattle with 2 on one out

  111. gxpanos says:

Man. Blue Jay hitters are friggin’ pesky. They can put together some at bats when they want to.

  112. A.D. says:

whats with all the damn foul balls

  113. Dela G says:

    arg strike him out!

  114. Little Bill says:

You guys saying Mariano shouldn’t be pitching do realize that it’s impossible for Mo to get the save in this game, right? If the game goes to 14 innings and your only options are Tomko and Mariano, you use Tomko? Yeah, cuz Mariano can’t pitch in tie games. We’ll just leave our best bullpen pitcher and the greatest closer ever on the bench because he can’t pitch in this game, it’s tied!

    • dygg says:

Actually, that’s not what people are saying. Read the comments above.

    • Bob Stone says:

My thinking is that a win isn’t guaranteed by the Yanks in the bottom of the ninth. Hughes is pitching well. Phil pitches the 9th and then you STILL have Mo for the 10th and 11th if need be.

    • gxpanos says:

I think a better argument is that Hughes has been so good, that you can probably get away with using him in the ninth. That lets you go to Mo in the 10th.

Obviously, I’m not complaining about the move, especially with the top of the order coming up. I certainly dont think Mo should never pitch unless it’s a save situation. I think it’s still a reasonable debate though. Philly probably would have pitched a scoreless ninth.

  115. Bob Stone says:

    Nice DP!!!

  116. Dela G says:

    holy sheet double play!

  117. Stephen says:

Mo sucks in tie games, period, always.

    /sarcasm

    • Bob Stone says:

Yeah – And the fact that Mo’s ERA is 2.5 times higher in tie games than save situations isn’t real? Sarcasm?

  118. TJ says:

Come on, get to ARODs walk-off

  119. TJ says:

Seattle has the bases loaded one out, top 9 tied 2-2

  120. Dela G says:

    great job mo!

  121. Jake says:

Too bad Mo sucks in non save situations

  122. Jamal G. says:

Oh, look at that, Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless inning in a tied game, who would’ve thunk it?

  123. Dorian says:

M’s got em loaded in the 9th with 1 out. Woodward at the plate

  124. Little Bill says:

Mariano can’t pitch in tie games.

  125. e mills says:

    now the Mariners are winning!

  126. Dorian says:

In play (runs) is a beautiful sight.

  127. TJ says:

    3-2 Seattle

  128. TJ says:

OK, how many of you hacks put in for Michael Jackson Tickets, be honest!

  129. Bob Stone says:

    Go Mariners

  130. Dela G says:

    LETS GO YANKEES AND MARINERS!

  131. Dorian says:

    A “gritty” reference.

  132. For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

The Gritty, Gutty New York Yankees

  133. Tom Zig says:

ow many times did Kay just say the word gritty

  134. Mike Axisa says:

    WTF Steve McNair died?

  135. Quikksand says:

    Let’s GO JETER!

  136. Dorian says:

Ichiro up now with 2 outs bases loaded against Saito

  137. dygg says:

    great AB

  138. Dela G says:

nice job with the walk jete

  139. Andrew says:

    nice ab by Jeter

  140. Ivan says:

    Great AB by DJ.

  141. zs190 says:

    Awesome at bat by Jetes.

  142. Little Bill says:

Great AB by Jeter. Now here comes the bunt.

  143. Quikksand says:

Jeter walks! Let’s go Johnny Damon!

  144. Bob Stone says:

Bases loaded with 1 out and the Mariners can’t bring in any more runs – AAAGH

  145. Shdwrptr says:

I think you hit Damon here

  146. Jamal G. says:

I love the non-bunt call, gimmie all the outs I can use.

  147. Quikksand says:

    Damon k’s.

  148. Ivan says:

Iight, Tex it would be a good time for a that homer ur waiting for.

  149. Dorian says:

2 down in the 9th lets go Aardsma

  150. dygg says:

    send the runner?

  151. Bob Stone says:

    BoSox Lose!! Yeah!

  152. Dorian says:

FUCK YEA WE WIN AND WE WUD BE ONE GM OUT

    • CP3 says:

even more amazing since we did lose 8 games against the redsox. just shows you where we could be if we won some games against the sox.

  153. Mike Axisa says:

Great, now they’re going to walk A-Rod to get to Cano.

    • Dorian says:

And they are bringing in the lefty. That is a very good thing for Robby. He focuses a lot more on staying through the ball and going the other way.

  154. Bob Stone says:

    Pinch hit for Cano

  155. zs190 says:

This would be a good time for Robbie to prove the naysayers wrong.

  156. Ivan says:

    iight lets go Cano.

  157. charlespoet says:

Not sure this is the guy I want up with RISP.

  158. A.D. says:

    Cano, a chance for redemption

  159. Mike Axisa says:

    Today, we spell redemption C-A-N-O.

  160. CP3 says:

I would love a cano walk off almost as much as an A-rod walk off

  161. Little Bill says:

If Cano comes through here, all hell will break loose.

  162. Jamal G. says:

Damn, was hoping B(S)J Ryan would come in.

  163. dygg says:

Cano swings at the first pitch. True or False?

  164. Bob Stone says:

    Robbie – Do Something

  165. CP3 says:

    Isn’t cano domini(cano).

  166. Bob Stone says:

    Just swung at ball 3

  167. e mills says:

    I wish Leche was up

  168. charlespoet says:

    Hit please.

  169. MattG says:

I nominate Swisher for the #5 spot.

  170. Andrew says:

    Damnit Cano!
