  1. Pete says:

Anyone else want that 5th spot? Cano doesn’t.

  2. Little Bill says:

TRADE DAMON! DFA TEX! AND SHOOT CANO!

  3. Bob Stone says:

I can’t wait for this Cano RISP slump to be finished

  4. CP3 says:

cano is just being a good friend, he wants his bff cabrera to get the walkoff hit.

  5. Lanny says:

    Cano does it again.

  6. Jose says:

We need Hinske to a have his Yankee moment in the bottom of the 10th.

  7. Shdwrptr says:

I hate extra innings. I just want the Yankees to end this game with a walkoff. Is that too much to ask on the 4th of July?

  8. Salty Buggah says:

one hit by cano in any AB today and we win.

  9. Bob Stone says:

I’ve said it before and I will probably say it again. This Player of the Game decided in the 8th innning is just ridiculous. Just another way to get in another “during-the-live-action” commercial plug.

  10. Ivan says:

While Cano has struggled in RISP, some of it has to do wit luck though

  11. John Duci says:

How amazing would our team be if Wang was as good as he was in those 19 win seasons. Boy, we would be a tough team to beat.

  12. Tom Zig says:

Quick! Let’s end this game before Tomko comes in!

  13. Shdwrptr says:

Ok. Get overbay out and have Hinske hit his first Yankee Stadium HR FTW

  14. MattG says:

I admire Girardi for not making knee-jerk moves based on SSS, but Cano hitting fifth was not wise to begin with. You do not want a lefty behind A-Rod–it makes the IBB too easy a call. Add to this the fact that Cano has one approach–swing at anything close–and you have a incredibly easy choice for a pitcher.

Put Swisher there, and give them something to think about.

  15. Bob Stone says:

For all those people debating this before . . . wouldn’t it be a plus to have Mariano in now for the 10th and maybe 11th after Phil Hughes pitched the ninth?

    • Mike Axisa says:

Well, yeah, but you can’t plan for a future that might never come.

I think he should have left Hughes in for another inning, but there’s never a bad time to go to Mo.

      • dygg says:

I agree. I think in today’s game, the argument is really more about Hughes than it is about Mo.

      • Bob Stone says:

Mo is always a good bet. The ERA suggests that he’s not quite as good a bet in ties. It doesn’t make any sense, but it’s true that his ERA is about 2.5 times higher in ties than in saves. And, I think, but I’m not sure, it’s a pretty good sample size. I would have left in Hughes for the 9th. Mo for the 10th and maybe 11th. That leaves you Coke for the 13th and 14th. Let’s see how it plays out.

  16. charlespoet says:

How tough would this team be if they had a legit #5 RBI hitter?

  17. A.D. says:

Ahhh BG 3rd best UZR/150 in CF this year.

  18. Ivan says:

    Good job Coke.

  19. Riddering says:

    GARDNER.

    Fastest Outfielder Alive.

  20. Quikksand says:

    Nice hustle, Brett!

  21. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

It’s hot today. Melk is a good choice.

  22. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

It’s hot today. Melk is a good choice.

  23. Mike Axisa says:

Melky’s due up third. Just get someone on for him, he’ll do the rest.

  24. Quikksand says:

Hip hip, Jorge! Posada to lead off the bottom of the 10th.

  25. Salty Buggah says:

ESPN – Noting the new problems the New York Yankees have had filling the high-priced seats at their new ballpark, Tiger Woods is boosting golf’s efforts to attract young fans to go see the game in person at the tournament he’s hosting this weekend.

“We don’t want to have what happened at Yankee Stadium,” Woods said Friday at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., site of the AT&T National. “Tickets are so overpriced that you can’t bring the family. We want to have everyone come out and enjoy being in a family atmosphere, walk around, have a good time and not have it cost an arm and a leg.”

this ticket prices thing is kinda overblown by the media so everyone misubderstands it a bit.

  26. Dorian says:

Posada guessing with 2 stikes highly upsets me.

  27. Bob Stone says:

Gardner’s defense saved a couple of runs today.

  28. Shdwrptr says:

Swisher!?!?!? Is Hinske dead or something?

  29. Bob Stone says:

Damn – No walk off for Melky today.

  30. Quikksand says:

Since when did getting hits become so hard Yankees???????

  31. zs190 says:

This guy Camp has some pretty nice control, seems like every ball on Gameday is right around the edge of the strike zone.

  32. charlespoet says:

Aceves and who else is left in the pen? Have to think the odds for the Yankees winning drops now since Mo, Hughes, Bruney, are done.

  33. e mills says:

I don’t like leaving COke in here

  34. charlespoet says:

What the hell was that pitching sequence?

  35. Salty Buggah says:

    uh-oh cmon Cokey

  36. Bob Stone says:

    Nice K Coke

  37. Bob Stone says:

Okay – Let’s win in the bottom of the 11th!!

  38. Salty Buggah says:

nice Cokey, now let’s get him the win!

If only Gardy could somehow get on

  39. Mike Axisa says:

Enough pussyfooting around, someone put one into the people and end this shit.

  40. Little Bill says:

Great job by Coke. We don’t have a 10th and 11th inning go so it’s surprising that he got through. God I hope we don’t go to the 12th because we have no 12th inning guy. It doesn’t matter who pitches that inning, he will fail because he doesn’t know how to pitch in the 12th inning.

  41. Ivan says:

Coke has really been good as of late.

  42. A.D. says:

    Walk off inside the park?

  43. e mills says:

Gardner needs to visit a hospital everyday

  44. Salty Buggah says:

    get on gardy

  45. charlespoet says:

cross your fingers for a win. Tomko has LOSS written all over it.

  46. A.D. says:

Minca Kelly chilling with the Jeters

  47. Dorian says:

    Minka Kelly. Stellar

  48. Tony says:

    Minka Kelly > Kate Hudson

  49. Soriano~40~40 says:

If we go to the 12th, who would be pitching?

  50. Mike Axisa says:

Camp is destroying them with that changeup.

  51. Bob Stone says:

Camp is looking more like Halladay than Halladay

  52. Bob Stone says:

Damon just has to put one out – Get this over with

  53. Ivan says:

    Who pitches the 12?

  54. Riddering says:

C’mon, Yankees. My grill is waiting. I want a win.

    • Dela G says:

you should do what i am doing

grilling and watching the game :)

      • Riddering says:

I’m watching on my computer which, unfortunately, is too far from the grill.

One day, though, I will have a laptogrill and life will be awesome.

  55. Soriano~40~40 says:

    Plz no Tomko

  56. Dela G says:

    man camp looked great

girardi may look foolish for pulling hughes early now that we rest on tomko…

  57. Ivan says:

I would go to Aceves for just 1 inning knowing I have the 3-4-5 hitters coming.

    • zs190 says:

He pitched like 3 innings and threw like 30-35 pitches 2 days ago, I think Joe would really prefer to not use him.

  58. YankeeJosh says:

Rumor has it Eric Hinske is on this team. It cannot be confirmed at this time, however.

    • Zach says:

Who was he suppose to bat for, and hes had 6 at bats since June 26th

      • YankeeJosh says:

He should have batted for either Ransom or Gardner. Gardner’s been in a bad funk and Hinske has the pop to end the game.

At some point the Manager has to get him into a game to keep him fresh and a viable option.

  59. Shdwrptr says:

This blows. They look great through the first 7 innings against Roy ^$^*%$#* Halladay and now they can’t even get a damn hit.

    here you go Bob:

    http://www.terezowens.com/category/derek-jeter/

  61. Salty Buggah says:

Tomko against Scutaro, Hill, Lind and then Rolen is not good but we may get lucky

  62. Riddering says:

How long has it been since Tomko got work?

  63. Mike Axisa says:

And all you doubters were worried about Tomko. Pffft.

  64. Riddering says:

Today should be “outfielder appreciation” day.

  65. TJ says:

Tomko can still throw, he should be pitching more, a good vet arm to have

  66. Bob Stone says:

Well Tomko sure did make it scary but I give him credit – He came through

  67. Salty Buggah says:

We got lucky, now we MUST win it in the bottom half I hope.

  68. charlespoet says:

there is one bullet dodged with Tomko. Odds say end it now.

  69. TJ says:

add Herges (just got DFAed by the Indians) and move Aceves to the starting spot

  70. OmgZombies! says:

Come on. We have to win, we would be only one game back if we do.

  71. Mike Axisa says:

Four fingers for A-Rod now. C’mon Cano.

  72. Dela G says:

    nice job TEX!

    RISP for A-BOMB!

  73. zs190 says:

Time for ARod to walk it off.

  74. Bob Stone says:

That’ll show ‘em not to use the over shift – HAH

    • Bob C says:

if anything it shows them that the shift was the right play… Teix got lucky, not that im complaining

  75. Jamal G. says:

Up to Robbie Cano again (post ARod IBB). Come on, you’re my favorite Yankee for a reason, dude.

  76. Shdwrptr says:

    They’re really pushing Camp

  77. Salty Buggah says:

    alright tex got it started

  78. A.D. says:

    No DP Cano

  79. e mills says:

    I bunt w/ Cano ;)

  80. For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

That was Lou Gehrig’s patch on the top of 1st base which helped us rite there.

  81. Shdwrptr says:

Sac bunt Cano. You have to

  82. Zach says:

Can Cano hit into a triple play to end the inning?

  83. ARX says:

For the love of all that is sacred and holy PLEASE GET A RBI HIT CANO!

  84. Mike Axisa says:

First and second with no outs? Fuck it, let him bunt.

  85. TJ says:

Cano is an out machine, let’s hope no DP

  86. Andrew says:

Cano is really really really due!

  87. Salty Buggah says:

    Cano bunt? it’ll be 2nd and 3rd one out…

  88. Dela G says:

    well its your turn robbie

like bruce almighty says “Be the miracle”

  89. DreDog says:

Cano should try to draw a walk.

  90. Jamal G. says:

    Hacerlo, Cano, hacerlo!

  91. Bob Stone says:

    Can Cano bunt?

  92. Andrew says:

    WHy bunt?!!!

  93. TJ says:

Yankee fans need to start the “rubber chicken” thing for AROD that SF used to use for Bonds

  94. Andrew says:

    Let him swing!

  95. A.D. says:

I wouldn’t be opposed to a bunt in this situation

  96. Ian says:

good move tryin’ to bunt Cano.. pitcher’s out of his rhythm

  97. Jamal G. says:

OK, please take off the damn bunt now.

  98. ARX says:

    ………..what the fuck.

  99. Andrew says:

    pathetic!!

  100. A.D. says:

    What the fuck

  101. Bob Stone says:

    WTF was that??????????

  102. For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

    WTF CANO???

  103. e mills says:

    what the FUCK was that?????

  104. Andrew says:

THAT IS WHY YOU DON’T BUNT!!!

  105. Ian says:

    WTF!! BUNTING ON 3-0?

  106. Mike Axisa says:

In the name of all that is holy, why Cano?

  107. zs190 says:

    oh my god….

  108. Salty Buggah says:

WTF!!! he could have walked maybe

  109. Riddering says:

    Wow.

Um, Cano is really playing for his detractors today.

  110. TJ says:

Bunt 3-0 was stupid, another great managerial move

  111. Shdwrptr says:

3-0 bunt. WTF was that. Take 3 pitches in a row and go down looking if you have to

  112. charlespoet says:

God this team plays some fucking stupid baseball at times. Bunt on 3-0. Just stupid

  113. Lanny says:

    Cano. Wow.

  114. DreDog says:

Why not try to draw the walk?

  115. A.D. says:

    Not Canos best day

  116. Zach says:

What the fuck is everyone complaining about?

That pitch was down the middle, if he takes it its 3-1 and he only has one chance to bunt

  117. Dela G says:

    CANO! YOU SIMPLETON!

  118. DreDog says:

At least Camp is pithcing a lot.

  119. ledavidisrael says:

    3-0 BUNT WTF AFSJFDADJ!@!@!!

  120. TJ says:

Deal Cano and let Pena play second

  121. Arman Tamzarian says:

I didn’t think he could fuck up any worse than not getting a hit, but he did

  122. Andrew says:

bunting is stupid as a whole. nevermind on 3-0

  123. ARX says:

    Thank you Posada. Thank you.

  124. A.D. says:

    Doesn’t matter, boom

  125. Dela G says:

    BALL GAME OVER!!

    YANKEES WIN!

  126. Bob Stone says:

    Hip HIp

  127. DreDog says:

    BLAMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  128. Dela G says:

Everybody go get yo grill on!

  129. Andrew says:

    HIP HIP, JORGE!

  130. Bob C says:

    AJ please pie posada :)

  131. Lanny says:

Bunting Cano in the first place was simply wrong.

  132. Riddering says:

    JORGIE.

Cano’s gotta pee on his hands for the rest of the season now.

  133. Ivan says:

    Posada Baby.

  134. Salty Buggah says:

    POSADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bail em out baby! He should be batting 5th and he is pretty clutch usually.

  135. Bob C says:

    JOBA!!!!!!!!

  136. Mike Axisa says:

Posada’s going to kill Joba and AJ in the clubhouse.

  137. Salty Buggah says:

does he get pied by AJ?

  138. DreDog says:

Seriously, who is in the ‘pen besides Ace tomorrow?

    • Mike Axisa says:

      Robertson, Bruney.

    • zs190 says:

Robertson for sure, Tomko, you rest Mo tomorrow and use Hughes to close if needed.

      • zs190 says:

Actually, maybe not. I forgot we lost that game to the Mariners the other day and didn’t use Mo, so Mo should be available too.

        • whozat says:

Mo’s pitched four of the last five days…I think you need to give him off tomorrow.

And this was Hughes’ first back-to-back appearance. I dunno if they want to make this his first back-to-back-to-back as well. Especially if he needs to spot-start for Wang in five days.

I think you have to make a quick call on Wang, DL him, call up Melancon or Alby to reinforce the pen, and decide if Aceves or Hughes is going to start in five days.

          • zs190 says:

I kind of doubt that unless it’s really obvious. We do have Ace, Bruney, Robertson and Tomko available for tomorrow. The bullpen pitched about 10 innings the last 2 days but it was spread out pretty well and was well rested before. I wouldn’t feel pressured to get another reliever up.

      • DreDog says:

Hughes has to get ready to start for Wang, no?

        • Mike Axisa says:

No, not necessarily. They need a starter Thursday, then they can regroup during the AS break. After Thursday, they won’t need a fifth starter until the 21st.

Maybe they piece that Thursday start together with Aceves and Tomko, and call up an extra reliever.

        • zs190 says:

You know, the way they talked about Hughes(granted, their words seem to change all the time), it almost sounds like we are more likely to see Sergio Mitre than Phil Hughes start that game.

          • DreDog says:

I could see that. I guess if Wang is going to take a little longer to heal, you get Hughes his innings, right?

            • zs190 says:

Oh yeah, if this is a long term thing, you stretch Hughes out like what Mariners did with Brandon Morrow. Like Mike said, all star break coming up, we don’t have to make this decision any time soon.

      • For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

nah Hughes has pitched 2 straight already for the first time.

      • Bob C says:

probably not gonna use Hughes if Wang is gonna go to the DL, i’ll bet they move quickly to bring someone up though

  139. zs190 says:

Our bullpen has just been awesome lately.

  140. Riddering says:

    HAHAHAHA.

    A.J. is one sneaky bastard.

  141. Bob Stone says:

WOW – I sort was mentally prepared for this game to be in the “automatic loss” column. We win against Halladay. Amazing. Baseball is definitely one sport that no one should ever bet on.

    • ARX says:

I didnt even gte home til the 8th, and I was just hoping Wang would hold it close…got my wish, sorta.
And BTW you shouldnt bet on ANY sport :) Just flush your money down the nearest toilet if you feel the need to get rid of it, its faster

  142. e mills says:

good game and can finally go out…have fun all!

  143. Bob Stone says:

Happy 4th Everyone. Enjoy it safely!

  144. OmgZombies! says:

At first I thought what a weak attempt by Joba but it was smoke and mirrors

  145. pete says:

none of this would have happened if joba were pitching the 7th and 8th for toronto

  146. Jamal G. says:

Heh, if the Yanks had gone 8-0 against Boston, they’d have a 15-game lead. Boston has, but they only lead by one game. Yankees > Red Sox.

    • pete says:

etc (enjoy this comment – directive form)

    • Ivan says:

If the yanks win half those games, the yanks would lead the division.

    • ARX says:

If we were just 3-5 against them, we’d be up by 5 games. Hopefully theyll continue to tread water against the rest of the league, then we can put them in our rear view by spanking them in August :)

    • YankeesFanInMI says:

But Boston is 8-0 against the Yanks, so it’s still kind of tough to say that…

    • Dela G says:

the yankees will be heard from in the second half against the red sox. I cannot wait for august so we can spank them like the little beetches they are

  147. whozat says:

So, what’d Joe say? “Someone missed something?” “Someone misunderstood something?”

    • Zach says:

      first answer: “someone missed something”
follow up: “he misunderstood the plan [i believe thats the word he used]“

  148. erik says:

    Cano’s worst game ever
    We Win
now let’s find a fifth starter how good is mitre?

  149. bart says:

bunting is not stupid when you need 1 run to tie or win — it also may not be stupid to avoid dp with a guy who is having trouble picking a pitch to hit

3-0 is a perfect place to look fo an easy to bunt 4-seamer — you can make an argument for looking at 3 more pitches – you can make an argument for turning cano lose an hit and run – again expecting a cookie

but the guy has to execute — the yankees have lost several games in late innings with no outs buy failing to advance tying or winning run to 3rd – usually i blame this on Girardi’s in-gam tactics

maybe it is also on the players – last night needing runs in that bases loaded situation neither ARod or Cano wer patient – a fky ball from either would have plated a run — the wild pitch saved big egg on face

as to that pitcherr’d manager Giradi – there jave been many opportunities to give Phil future franchise multiple innings — Giradi has not done so — now needing Hughes back in His Slot — he will not be stetched and available — that’l be the excuse — and will get a spoot start from someone in AA or AAA

Ihope the wanger experiment ends here – get him healthy and keep him for nest year when Andy retires but develop Hughes now
