ransom can rot in hell

JobaWockeeZ says:

Never seen a thread go from happy to “OMFG WTF END OF TEH WORLD” in a matter of minutes.

Mike Pop says:

Heh. “Time to send him to the bullpen”/

dygg says:

It’s still early.

Salty Buggah says:

Please get back in this offense, or else this is gonna be one angering game

J says:

ransom quickly became the career minor leaguer you want to succeed to gtfo you’re garbage.

John Duci says:

Honestly, I dont give a fuck anymore. I always wanted Joba to be a starter but its clearly not the right move. Joba needs to be switched with Hughes asap. Idc that Joba has giving up 3er or less in 24 out of 28 starts. He’s not a good starter idc what anyone says. Make him the future closer he’s proven he can do that and hasnt proved anything as a starter. He only has his velocity and good stuff out of the bullpen so put him where he belongs. The guy cant get put of the 5th inning.

John Duci says:

out of the 5th inning*

Mike Pop says:

You’re insane.

J says:

just like ransom, gtfo

why are there retarded people amongst the yankee fan population?

Little Bill says:

This is just your typical overreaction to one bad start. People did the same thing when CC had a bad one recently.

Mike Pop says:

I was told that CC pitched well against the Mets because he wanted to stay in so he could hit and the M’s startt he did not care.

I love people.

Drew says:

Oh goodness. He allowed four runs on two cheapie homers to Lind and Hill, plus Ransom booted that ball.

Half a season of starts does not a career make.

BigBlueAL says:

I wouldnt trust Joba as a closer right now let alone as the 8th inning guy. He is struggling as a starter and it wont change as a reliever.

Brazilian Yankee says:

I still think there’s something wrong with his shoulder. He hasn’t had the same velocity from last season, and his command has been way off. I dont remember him painting the outside corner with his FB like he used to last season.

Adam says:

the velocity was there today, he just can’t locate his freakin fastball he works so hard, he’s never had this many problems with control.

Brazilian Yankee says:

His velocity is not there, causing him to overthrow and therefore losing command.

Adam says:

joba was throwing 96 today… the velocity was there. The biggest problem joba has had this year is the walks. then the walks lead to high pitch counts. He usually gets up to around 95 3 or 4 innings in. All he has to do is solve that problem and then he is right there. LETS PUT Z-MAC, BRACKMAN, AND AJAX IN THE BULLPEN TOO WHY DONT WE!

Rey22 says:

Ugly, ugly inning. Heck, ugly game for that matter.

Mike Pop says:

Man, Hill’s home run was ridic.

Salty Buggah says:

I blame A-rod!

If he wasn’t hurt, he’d be out there and Ransom would not have messed up.

Drew says:

We’re looking at a 4+hour game.

Mike Pop says:

That ends with a Swisher walk off.

Drew says:

fuck that. this game has melky written all over it.

Mike Pop says:

Heh, so you hope. i’m seeing a big A-Rod hit to finish it

JobaWockeeZ says:

Lol Drew every comeback has Melky written on it for you. Can’t blame you though.

Brazilian Yankee says:

Reminds me of those ugly Yanks-O’s sluggfests

The Fallen Phoenix says:

This is what happens to young starters, especially when their defense doesn’t do them any favors behind them.

Yesterday, David Price couldn’t get out of the second inning, and got pounded for six runs by Texas (a team Joba manhandled earlier this year).

John Duci says:

Joba is a below average starter and a way above average reliever. The front office needs to make the correct decision and move Joba to the pen over the allstar break and put Hughes back in the rotation

J says:

lol BELOW AVERAGE STARTER ahahhaa

dude had an under 4 era coming into the game and you say below average starter? he’s an above average starter and an excellent reliever.

you, ransom and scouting reports need to gtfoh!

JobaWockeeZ says:

Or you know we can get a great starter seeing as many young starters struggle. IT’S NOT JSUT JOBA. Patience for young starters fore Yankee fans = virtually nonresistant.
I would rather take Zack Greinke than like Papelbon.

The Fallen Phoenix says:

No. You’re wrong. See above. Young starters struggle with bouts of inconsistency – it’s how they learn and grow.

Look at Greg Maddux’s first full year in the majors. Or Josh Beckett’s. Or Jon Lester’s. Or Zack Greinke. Or David Cone’s.

Little Bill says:

Because of one bad start? Why didn’t they move CC to the bullpen when he struggled vs. Seattle? Before this game, Joba’s ERA was below 4 which was 2nd among the starters and pretty good in the AL East.

Moose says:

Dude, don’t even go there on this site. You’ll be mauled by hundreds of Joba sympathizers and spin artists. If things dont work out with half the people on this site on the employment market, I’m pretty sure Fox News is hiring.

John Duci says:

Face it Joba has been below average. 5ip 3er every start is below average to me

JobaWockeeZ says:

Well if Toronto can come from a 4 run deficit can’t see why we can’t.

Brazilian Yankee says:

We’ll take the lead back at some point. It’s just a matter of being able to hold it…

J says:

cmon. one freaking out!

BigBlueAL says:

Guys please stop blaming Ransom. Joba gave up 9 hits in less than 4 innings and his WHIP for the season is 1.52 which is worse than even Pettitte.

John Duci says:

Very true. Joba was unhittable out of the pen now he gets smacked around as a starter. His whip is disgusting.

BigBlueAL says:

I didnt say all that…

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah if Joba goes to the bullpen he’ll have a 0.00 ERA. One inning pithcers are wayyyyyyyy more valuable than starters. I don’t know why we got CC WHEN WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN TEH K-ROD!!!! OMFG CASHMAN SUX!!111!!!11

Mike Pop says:

180 ks in 55 innings. with a 0.00 era.

Zach says:

posada drops third strike 15 times so joba needs 15 more Ks

Moose says:

CC has proved that he can’t pitch more than 5 innings as a starter, Joba has not. So that “cc to the bullpen” retort, which everyone on this site loves to employ, makes absolutely no sense.

CC is a proven stud as a starter. Joba is a complete unknown but is leaning heavily towards “dud”.

Anymore spin?

How long did CC get to prove himself as a starter?

Okay then.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Nice reading skills. Did I ever say CC to the eighth? Nice red herring you pulled out. Now I’ll make this simple for a 1st grader to read. Why did we get CC if K-Rod was available because obviously starts suck so much compared to relievers. Or is that to hard to comprehend?

Drew says:

Ransom should be gold glover if he wants to sit on our bench!

captain crunch says:

joba looks teary eyed

charlespoet says:

He does but he needs to grow a pair and start pitching to his potential instead of the potential of Pavano.

claybeez says:

Joba’s starts have looked a lot like Hughes’ bad starts. Lots of balls fouled back with 2 strikes rather than guys headed back to the bench.

Moose says:

Thats what happens when you throw a 92 MPH straight fastball and terribly inconsistent breaking stuff

Captain Wiley says:

I apologize if this has been brought up before, but has anyone noticed where Joba stands on the mound when facing righties? I believe it was Al Leiter a few weeks ago on MLBtv who talked about standing on one extreme side of the rubber or the other had huge advantages to a pitcher. When Randy Johnson was in his prime for example, he’d stand on the far left of the rubber creating an even further advantage against lefties. Looks like Joba just stands in the middle of the rubber for the most part. But maybe thats his comfort zone and it works for him so he doesn’t want to change it.

I’m not suggesting that this is the reason he struggles on occassion. Just wondering if anyone thinks it might help him especially against righties.

Moose says:

I’m tellin you man, the Yankees “brass” is on fire:

1) Another terrible/labrorious start by Joba
2) Have Hughes and Joba in the complete opposite roles
3) Send down Pena and keep Ranson when Pena was playing 10X better than Cody
4) Trade for Hinske and NEVER play him…ever
5) Keep running Swisher out there despite the fact that he’s been awful since April
6) Keep batting Cano (albeit not today) in the number 5 hole despite the fact that Posada is an INFINITELY better clutch hitter than Cano, and Cano is sporting one of the worst RISP average in the history of baseball

The fact that we’re as close to 1st as we are is a miracle. These team still has major problems than need to be addressed. And I have absolutely zero confidence that the Yankees “braintrust” will be able to solve them.

update: OK JOBA! 8 runs in 3 innings…sweet. But let me guess, “Bro, his ERA is like barely under 4, he’s SICK!” Yea right, his ERA is under 4 b/c of outings like this (where there all unearned) or b/c Girardi pulls him out before he gives up more than 4/5 runs. Either way, he has consistently given NO MORE than 5-6 innings in EVERY start, kills the bullpen, and is beyond painful to watch. How can this possibly be the same picther who blew away hitters and was untouchable out of the pen 2 years ago. Great job by the Yankees in taking an absolute gem of a player and turning him into a mediocre (at best) starting pitcher. But hey…”he can help the Yankees more as a starter b/c he throws more innings!” Oh yea??? Not pitching like this he can’t

Dela G says:

just going to say joba belongs as a starter

John Duci says:

I agree 100%. You said it perfectly.

bonestock94 says:

lol Hinske has been on the team for less than a week.

Mike Pop says:

OH MAN, they gave up two top prospects and they never play this guy!!!!!!

JobaWockeeZ says:

Two prospects!!! That must mean Jesus Montero and Austin Jackson!!! WHY WHY WHY!!

Moose says:

Dont you think Hinske would been an upgrade, atleast SOMETIMES, over Gardner/Melky/Swisher….thank you, next.

bonestock94 says:

You do realize that the Yankees got Hinske last week right?

The Fallen Phoenix says:

Sorry, you’re wrong. Joba Chamberlain belongs in the rotation, as does Phil Hughes, but Hughes has been in the bullpen so long his stamina has suffered. I’d prefer the Yankees stick Hughes back into the rotation sooner rather than later, but you also can’t risk injury.

Again, David Price didn’t get out of the second inning yesterday. This is what happens to young starters. Zack Greinke couldn’t get anyone out during his first couple of seasons as a young starter, either.

Listen, I’m as down on Ransom as everyone else, but roster flexibility demanded Pena be sent down, otherwise the Yankees would have lost Ransom for nothing. If he continues to struggle like this, fine, you cut him after the All Star Break.

Hinske is a lefty, the Jays are playing a lefty pitcher today and tomorrow. Can’t fault Girardi for playing the platoon avantage.

Dela G says:

i just read this

you must be high

charlespoet says:

Either Joba is hurt and not saying anything and that does not benefit the team

The Yankees are blind to his injury as they are with everything.

Or this Joba experiment has about ran its course. While effective, he is very inconsistent with the stuff he has. He is a crap shoot everytime he pitches and defensively, you can never tell if he is going to give up many hits, waste all his energy trying to strike everyone out or walk everyone.

It is a matter of concern for the Yanks. But by no means is one bad start mean his career as a starter is over but it is time to define his role and have him jump on board.

YankeeScribe says:

What the hell happened? I stepped away for 15 minutes to get some food and now Joba’s out of the game.

William says:

It’s time to send Joba back to the bullpen…not because he is better there, but because he is simply is not good enough to start. If the Yankees want a pitcher who goes 5 innings to 4.00 ERA they can sign Jaret Wright.

Mike Pop says:

I love people.

William says:

I hate mediocre starters.

Mike Pop says:

I’d take a mediocre starter over a “dominant” reliever.

William says:

And that’s what you are getting.

Mike Pop says:

And that is more valuable.

Moose says:

Thats incredibly naive.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Mike Pop says:

Look at the WAR statistic my man. Joe Blanton was worth 2.3 wins above replacement last year and Brad Lidge was worth 2.2

I think that’s the oppo of naive.

h/t to Matt ACTY…

William says:

Except Hughes could be a dominant starter, so you are completely ignoring opportunity cost. Statistics without context is ignorance.

Mike Pop says:

Wait, so Hughes can be a dominant starter but Joba can’t?

Even though Joba has been a better starter than Hughes in his MLB career? And projects to be a better starter?

So Hughes can be a great starter but Joba can’t? Is this Mike Francessa?

William says:

MLB.com has this great thing called PitchFx data. Check it out sometime. Compare Joba in the past to Joba now. Get back to us when you see the pattern.

Mike Pop says:

You’re the man, William. You’re the man.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I dislike people who don’t think Joba can turn into an ace because they simply lack patience.

William says:

I dislike people who refuse to accept that Joba’s fastball velocity and command has been off drastically for most of this season.

Mike Pop says:

Even so, this does not mean he can’t hack it as a starter.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I dislike people who pulls facts out of nowhere or not linking to any proof. And I still dislike people without any goddamn patience and I really dislike people who base a person’s career by one start. And I really really dislike people who are ready to boo or curse at a Yankee and get shrouded with degrading comments.

J says:

and maybe trade for pavano and expect 30 starts too!

dkidd says:

could be worse. we could be the mets

BigBlueAL says:

They have more all-stars than the Yankees!!!

Riddering says:

Question since I missed the first couple innings: did Joba have any Ks today?

captain crunch says:
Riddering says:

Youch. I was worried about that. It seemed most of his outs were coming from flyballs.

e mills says:

well at least BOS is losing too

CP3 says:

Yea and with the sox losing if we could manage to win this game we would be tied for first place. I do think that we win this game cuz our offense has been scoring runs lately.

CP3 says:

Wow, this is one crazy game, I hope the yanks can win the game at least. Oh yea I hope Hinske can replace ransome when the jays go to a right hander.

captain crunch says:

there’s something wrong with joba… too bad they can’t send him down.

Teix is the Man says:

I want Joba in the rotation just as much as the next person, but it is concerning that he has not had one start without giving up any runs.

Drew says:

WOrd, we should trade him for hiroki kuroda.

Teix is the Man says:

wow, you obviously don’t get it.

Drew says:

yes, i am the one that doesn’t get it.

Teix is the Man says:

as long as you realize that

Wow, so many people here obviously aren’t mature enough to handle a bad start. Go away, please.

Little Bill says:

Rey22 says:

But, that Santana guy from the Mets…we pounded him for 9 runs, why isn’t he in the minors!?!?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Because Santana is a starting pitcahhh!!!!!!

William says:

So many people here aren’t mature enough to handle an opinion different from their own.

Teix is the Man says:

yeah you’re ignorant if you don’t agree with everyone. you have to munch joba’s knob or else you’re retarded.

William says:

Yep…apparently, advocating a position is more important than accepting a changing reality. The Joba that could locate a 95 mph fastball and then drop a slider should be a starter. The one who nibbles with a 91 mph and throws his slider in the dirt either needs rest to recover from an undisclosed injury or needs to be returned to the bullpen so Hughes can get his chance at being more than a mediocre starter.

And then what? Hughes gets half a season worth of starts to prove himself, and when he struggles because that’s what young pitchers do, you’d be saying he should go back to the pen.

Get real. Learn some damn patience or go away, because this site isn’t for you.

William says:

Apparently facts, logic and reason don’t rule the day here. I am sorry you can’t handle them, but I’d advise you to learn if you want your opinions to be taken seriously. Until then, keep preaching to the safety of the choir.

Moose says:

hahahaha, THANK YOU! Couldnt have said it better myself.

JobaWockeeZ says:

You’re so full of yourself dude. You’re so cool why don’t you go to Yankee stadium go to Joba’s face and say “fuck you.” Nice excuse for a fan you are.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Oh and yes you are ignorant if you continue to act like a petulant child and if you’re crying about being called ignorant, I’m pretty sure you’re maturity level is down.

Teix is the Man says:

wow whatever dude. like i said iwant joba in the rotation but he is not the same as last year so you can stop now.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Ok that’s your opinion. I’ll respect that if you don’t incessantly curse.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Teix is the Man says:

i would actually like to just bury the hatchet because i was frustrated. that does not mean i dislike joba, i just want to see some sort of improvement. anything. i am not an ignorant person, and you had no right to call me that, which is why i got defensive.

JobaWockeeZ says:

I did not call you ignorant until after you got mad but rather the fuck Joba comment. However I realize I too was acting no better and if you agree to not let your emotions post stupid comments then I too will stop.

Teix is the Man says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

Never get excited when Kay talks about a fly ball in center…*sigh*

JobaWockeeZ says:

Damn that wasn’t supposed to be a reply.

Starting with you.

I can’t stand people who are ready to write an obituary for Joba’s career as a starter based on half a season of starts.

Moose says:

Mike, you, more than anyone, should know that the discourse of this site is insanely PRO-Joba starter, and anyone who disagrees is vehemently chastised and rebuked.

You either march to the beating drum of this site, or your banned and deamed a LOHud interloper.

This site is PRO-common sense.

Moose says:

And anti-dissent.

I’m sorry, but it’s hard to take the “Joba to the bullpen” crowd seriously when they only show up when he struggles.

Ransom bobbled a ball? DFA him. Swisher bobbled a ball? He’s a bench player. Matsui’s in a slump? Cut him, he’s toast. The grass is always greener, I guess.

8 of 16 quality starts – Joba’s gone past 6 innings twice – I’m going away now…

Oh man, I just lost a lot of brain cells reading most of the comments in here. Let me go practice calculus or something to repair the damage.

captain crunch says:

drink from a toilet

bonestock94 says:

A couple more “OMG HINSKE NEVER PLAYS” or “Joba to the bullpen” comments and I might..

J says:

calm down yankee fans. joba is a starter. be patient, no ones trying to send you to your funerals tomorrow. he’s 24 years old and hasn’t been that bad this year. the reason his ERA is low is because he gets weak pop ups, and lots of GBs (check numbers), just like Wang when he was good.

calm down jeez

Tank the Frank says:

Are you comparing him to Wang?

The reason he doesn’t have a high ERA is because he’s never in the game long enough.

Zach says:

“hes enver in the game long enough”
I wish the Dodgers would move Clayton Kershaw and his 5.1 IP/S to the 8th inning

Jake H says:

I do wonder why Joba has had terrible command. It always appears that he wants to call what he wants no matter who is catching. He never seems to watn to throw the curve ball. It’s suppose to be a plus pitch so why hardly any curves?

Brazilian Yankee says:

Damon not seeing the ball well against Cecil

e mills says:

Hey Mike, can A-Rod PH or even sub late in the game?

No idea. I imagine if there’s a big spot later in the game, he’ll pinch hit. Not sure about playing defense afterwards though.

Drew says:

Jober still has a 4 era (4.04). He needs to get that down to 3 to be a solid starter in the AL East. He’s no Brad Penny.
/oaktag’d

Teix is the Man says:

Little Bill says:

lol, I just can’t believe how some people overreact at every little thing that goes bad. This game isn’t even half over yet.

His WHIP has been bad all year. He walks way too many batters and gives up hits when hes up in the count. The thing is hes not learning and adapting. Hes gotten worse if anything.

Drew says:

This entire year is a learning experience. Mo willing, it will be his first full season as a starter. Half way thru, it’s been a successful campaign.

Yes he should be given atleast 2 years to learn. After all hes what 23? Just saying most fans would like to se improvement in each start or for him to string along a few dominant starts.

Tank the Frank says:

+1

I would have loved to see some improvement over the course of this season so far. But who knows, he could have a good 2nd half.

Drew says:

That’s implying he’s had a “bad” first half which is far from the truth.

Tank the Frank says:

I’m not ready to take a dump on this kid just yet, but it would be nice to see improvement, something to hang our hats on. Joba’s been bad this season, that’s all there is to it. And I don’t want to hear he’s only given up X amount of earned runs blah blah blah. Giving up 2, 3, or 4 runs over, 4 or 5 innings is fine, but I don’t like to think what might happen if he went through the order one more time.

Joba had some great starts last season, but he’s been bad this year overall, outside of two starts. Again, I’m only down on him because I think we all would like to see some improvement as the year goes on. But that hasn’t happened. It’s the same thing every start, more or less.

Teix is the Man says:

captain crunch says:

he’s still learning but his stuff doesn’t look the same as last year. i don’t know why… maybe he’s still figuring out a routine.

cult of basebaal says:

cough, texas, cough, cough …

Tank the Frank says:

The thing is his “stuff” was there today. He was hitting 96mph. But where has Joba’s control gone.

2.8 BB/9 career in the minors

2.9 BB/9 as a starter last season

4.4 BB/9 this season

What’s up?

The Fallen Phoenix says:

Check out David Price’s BB/9 career in the minors, and as a starter this year.

Or Phil Hughes’ BB/9 career in the minors, and as a starter the last two years.

Young pitchers are inconsistent.

Tank the Frank says:

Patience certainly is the key word when talking about Joba.

Mike Pop says:

Like most young starters with that kind of hype.

Zach says:

tim lincecum had 4.0 BB/9 his first season

wish he was in their bullpen now

Moose says:

What do you mean “he’s still learning his stuff”? He’s been a starter his whole life…why can;t he figure out his “routine” or “stuff” by now???

Maybe its b/c this IS his stuff as a starter….BLASPHEMUS!!!

Mike Pop says:

So what you’re saying is, every single starter in the MLB came in and has consistently been solid. They never struggled, they never had hiccups or bumps in the road. Every true starter has just come in the big leagues and dominated since their first pitch thrown. This is what you’re saying, since thye all have pitched their whole life, right?

captain crunch says:

seeeeeeeeeee ya

Brazilian Yankee says:

Posada feeling it!

Mike Pop says:

I love Kay trying to be “cool and hip”.

“Posada don’t play that”.

BigBlueAL says:

Michael Kay starting up crap with Posada!!! LOL

CP3 says:

Let’s go Yankee offense let’s pick up Joba.

Salty Buggah says:

a HR or 4 would be nice, especially now

no DP Matsui!!!

Salty Buggah says:

thank you, this is the 2nd time this week he has answered my call

dkidd says:

i love jorge but jesus christ, lighten up

The Fallen Phoenix says:

Ages 20-24, these were CC Sabathia’s IP, ERA, ERA+, WHIP, K/9, and K/BB:

20, 180.1, 4.39, 102, 1.353, 8.5, 1.80
21, 210, 4.37, 100, 1.362, 6.4, 1.69
22, 197.2, 3.60, 122, 1.295, 6.4, 2.14
23, 188, 4.12, 106, 1.319, 6.7, 1.93
24, 196.2, 4.03, 104, 1.256, 7.4, 2.60

Drew says:

so you’re saying… he should be in the pen.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Anyone under the age of 30 should be in the bullpen.

CP3 says:

Holy shit I never knew CC has been a workhorse since he was 20 that is crazy

CP3 says:

Mike Pop says:

OMG Yankees sux!

Drew says:

AHhh We are the worst!!!!!!!1

J says:

i was just gonna say, bloop and a blast. matsui’s been on FIRE.

This game is over. DFA MAtsui.

Little Bill says:

lol, Matsui is a good example of how people are swayed by a bad stretch. Many wanted to bench him and play Cervelli, lol. DFA Matsui and send Joba to da bullpen!

Little Bill says:

TAKE THAT! GODZILLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAA

Brazilian Yankee says:

Oh Yes Hitdeki…

BigBlueAL says:

The “bandbox” is living up to its reputation today.

how do you say “i’m not done” in japanese?

yay yankee stadium

JobaWockeeZ says:

BRING UP SHELLY DUNCAN, DFA MATSUI, DFA RANDOM AND DFA JOBA111111111111!!!!!!1111

charlespoet says:

And Coors Field of the East saves the home team again. I am now of the opinion that this is a $1.5 billion dollar joke of a stadium. Well done Lonn Trost and Randy Levine, you have completed your process of making the stadium a joke.

You should raise ticket prices again next year, you know to improve community relations.

Brian says:

Winning is bad for community relations, how?

charlespoet says:

Ya, I was talking about winning. Saying hello from the $2000 seats. Just sent a text to wife and kids, they are 5 rows from the top. They need better jobs, I guess.

Brazilian Yankee says:

Saved the home team? Jays had 2 cheap homers today, we’ve had one. I think the stadium is hurting us today.

J says:

LOL anyone seeing the hand puppet? ahahahahha hilarious

Dela G says:

WHOOOO!!!! A THRILLA!

Zach says:

cut Hideki ‘i cant hit’ Matsui

Little Bill says:

All he does is hit slow grounders to 2nd.

Zach says:

and his swing is ugly

Dela G says:

This could be a 12-10 type game

Dela G says:

by the way, lol at A-rod trying to convince joe may to put him in the game

Brian says:

Seattle just escaped 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Papi whiff included!

Drew says:

Cano to dah bench!

CP3 says:

cano is raking (without risp)!!

Brazilian Yankee says:

Cano’s hitting what, .500 with nobody on?

Little Bill says:

Now we have to piece together another quality bullpen outing. Pretty sure Coke is out having thrown 2 yesterday. Ace or Alby should be in next and everybody except maybe Hughes should be available for an inning.

Drew says:

“Now we have to piece together another quality bullpen outing”
That is much easier on the eyes than it was a month or two ago..

Teix is the Man says:

like nobody is available today. at least 3 innings needed from albie

Drew says:

Ace Drob Tomko maybe Coke Bruney

dkidd says:

porcello getting knocked around. not a good weekend for young starters not named lincecum

Rey22 says:

Wow, from closer to 4th inning reliever, what the hell happened to B.J. Ryan?

CP3 says:

Tank the Frank says:

Drew says:

Zach says:

34/36 SV 2.95 era and 9 K/9 last year so he still had it

Mike Pop says:

For the text poll, where was choice E? Put Joba in the pen and make tomko a starter.

Jamal G. says:

NESN’s Don Orsillo: “By scoring two runs in the first inning, the Red Sox have scored [insert runs total here] this season, third in the American League. Speaking about runs… ”

The bold portion was a segway Orsillo used to get into a Dunkin’ Donuts ad. Awesome.

BigBlueAL says:

LOL I love Dunkin Donuts.

gio says:

ARX says:

cjc says:

speedy cano strikes again

Teix is the Man says:

plenty of time

BigBlueAL says:

Why the fuck does Cano keep trying to steal bases??

Mike Pop says:

He wants to get the lazy dominican tag off of him.

BigBlueAL says:

Drew says:

I thought he was safe.

The Fallen Phoenix says:

I wish David Cone could be in the booth every day.

J says:

lol i love david cone. freaking hilarious

Michael W. says:

Cano batting .349 with the bases empty, .245 with runners on and .198 w/RISP.

Mike Pop says:

Drew says:

Dela G says:

david cone is hilarious

Moose says:

Can someone please explain to me what Swisher does well except run long counts and play a sweet Air Guitar????

Drew says:

get on base, drive in runs, hit ball far

Little Bill says:

Stop being so rational.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Jumping off a bridge over one loss is the way to be.

Zach says:

i jump off the bridge if we’re losing during the 4th inning

Moose says:

I can tell you obviously have wet dream over Joba by your sweet name. That aside, this isn’t about ONE game. – its been for most of the year. Joba has not been good, but for 2-3 starts, and outside of April, Swisher looks like Swisher of 2008 (and I now know why Chicago gave him away for a bag of baseballs – bad defense, bad baserunning, .240 average = VERY expendable).

JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah let’s jump of a bridge over half a season. Ever see the early 90 Yankees? You jump off a bridge or start following after 98?

Anyways I do like Joba but he is not my favorite player due to his name being a pun of one of my favorite crews. +1 for fail insult though =/

Mike Pop says:

Ya man, I don’t like facts.

Moose says:

Really??? Are you sure about that since April???

Mike Pop says:

I love when small sample sizes make my argument sound better than it really is by not looking at the big picture.

JobaWockeeZ says:

.363 OBP and .482 slugging. Yeah he’s doing that =/

Drew says:

eh, yeah you’re right. he shoulda hit 400 all year..
Plus, dudes only got 2 rbi’s this whole month!!

dkidd says:

this is an ugly game

J says:

great slider from alby

Teix is the Man says:

c’mon albie, big moment here

Drew says:

heh.. fitting that arroyo gave up 8.

Mike Pop says:

Funny how people go NUTS over a Joba outing. Just going completely insane about this. It’s not like the Yankees staff has pitched great over the past month or anything.

J says:

umm… what? check the numbers, they’ve been top 3 easily.

Salty Buggah says:

yea it is dumb, but it gets frustrating but not enough to say he deserves the bullpen again.

captain crunch says:

awesome job alby

Drew says:

Albaladingo ftw

J says:

omg alby should be a starter!!!!

CP3 says:

Where was this, albie, any chance he stays up here for sometime.

Salty Buggah says:

pete says:

what has happened to this site? it used to be essentially free of idiotic end-of-the-world types and b-jobbers and suddenly they’re trying to take over. This is, folks, joba’s first career (minors included) legitimate “clunker”. Know how many successful major league starters have, in the history of baseball, never had a start like this? Zero. Everyone seemed so inclined at the beginning of the season to allow joba to “take his bumps and bruises,” but what did you all think this meant? the occasional 5.1 inning, 4 ER start? Legit aces will have occasional bouts with mediocrity, even in their most dominant seasons. Over the course of a season every starting pitcher who gets enough starts will get bombed once or twice, joba included. And just about every major league starter ever has had a season or two (or more) of inconsitency and inability to pitch deep into ballgames. That’s a season or two, not a game or two or a week or two or even a month or two. If by 2011 joba has not evolved past where he is now, then you have a legitimate argument for reliever. But at this point, 29 starts into his major league career, he has had some issues with fastball command and some inconsistency with his offspeed pitches. That is literally all that is wrong with him right now. At this point in their careers, these were issues for Josh Beckett, Pedro Martinez, Johan Santana, CC Sabathia, and countless other starters with stuff that is at his level. So you’re going to tell me that he can’t make it as a starter because not even 30 starts into his career he has issues with efficiency and finally in one start he wasn’t able to wiggle out of it? Shouldn’t we be happy about the fact that through this point in his career joba has already shown us that not only can he dominate when his stuff is on (boston in 08, detroit, cleveland, atlanta in 09), but he is also capable of pitching through patches where his stuff and/or command are off (beginning of the season and now, respectively) and keeping his team in the game/rebounding from a rough first inning (Boston 09)? These are all qualities that a good major league starter NEEDS to have because virtually ALL major league starters, not even just the young ones, go through periods like this, and the ability to remain effective (even if its boring to some people) and keep a team in games without being completely on top of your game is an extremely valuable skill.

Amen.

(and separate paragraphs are your friend)

Zach says:

can you use the enter key if you’re going to write an essay here?

pete says:

my bad i do that a lot i just never intend to say as much as i do

J says:

RAB is getting more word around the internet. more internet viewers, more idiots.

lol thanks for the rant, but that’s pretty much the answer

JobaWockeeZ says:

What happened to the site? Nothing. Just more people come here and state their opinions. Now since the average Yankee fan has no patience the more of them coming, the more of them will have opinions that will conflict with others. But I would rather see Lanny/Bo/Axl than some people because at least they are mildly amusing.

Dela G says:

very true

for the record, i agree that joba should be a starter as should everyone else

dkidd says:

let’s get alphabet a win

Dela G says:

great job jon!

dkidd says:

BigBlueAL says:

This Steve McNair story getting crazier by the day.

Zach says:

whats new with it?

J says:

well i dont want to assume anything but it looks like mcnair was having an affair and his mistress killed him and herself. cops aren’t even looking for suspects.

its sad that this has happened, but its looking more and more like it everyday.

Zach says:

yeah ill wait until everything comes out

dkidd says:

come on cody. give me a reason to not hate you

Salty Buggah says:

Evan says:

When did B.J. Ryan ever throw 97? Where did Kay get that from?

J says:

when he was the orioles.

Dela G says:

he used to throw 97 easy while in baltimore

Evan says:

Hmm, I’ve always remembered him being between 91-94 w/ the fastball his best.

J says:

ugh. i’m getting sick of ransom. weak hacks at 85 mph fastballs on the outside, and can never hit a breaking pitch.

Tank the Frank says:

Plus he’s great with the glove.

Teix is the Man says:

He’s teh Shelley Duncan!!!!

J says:

yeah but the thing is, shelley has a long swing, ransom has a nice short compact stroke. he looks like a player, swings like a player, does everything like a good player.

but, he’s just not a baseball player. couldn’t hit 250 last year in AAA and the Yankees are learning that quickly. i’d rather have eduardo nunez or reegie corona than see ransom with another AB.

Teix is the Man says:

Tank the Frank says:

So send Albie out for one more and then Aceves for two… then what? Mo’s had a lot of work lately.

Dela G says:

maybe jesus can come in for the save?

;)

Salty Buggah says:

cmon Jeter, be clutch!

Salty Buggah says:

I love this stadium.

Tank the Frank says:

Seriously. Other people can look down on it. But I love it. Our offense is literally never out of a game.

Drew says:

Jetah to left field! He’s got teh no range! He’s too old!!1

Teix is the Man says:

Trade him fo’ teh Nomaaaaa!

Teix is the Man says:

Trade him fo’ teh Nomaaaa!

Zach says:

move him to third, arod to center!

/miller

Teix is the Man says:

OMG I wanted to smack him when he said that!

JobaWockeeZ says:

Who doesn’t want to smack him for anything he says really?

Dela G says:

Brazilian Yankee says:

New YS = legal steroids.

Nikhil R. says:

Captain Clutch

YankeeScribe says:

J says:

jeter should be only a pinch hitter so we can have clutch hits whenever we need them.

who’s with me! oh and joba to bp, dfa matsui and trade swisher, etc etc etc.

cookie monster says:

you forgot brain replacement for cano

CP3 says:

Looking back at Joba’s start today, I was one of those which did overreacted. This is a game which the yanks should win and its hard to see your starting pitcher giving it away, at the moment it did seem as we were going to lose. I think people (myself included) expect the world from Joba, and expect him to be an ace now but you still have to give him time to come into his own. I promise to everyone on this site I will never overreact on Joba again. (I still don’t like ransome, though)

captain crunch says:

ya right……

BigBlueAL says:

Joba gets another ND, but this time its a good thing!!

Jamal G. says:

The Yankees have scored 9 runs in 4.1 innings today sans ARod in the lineup. Cody Ransom says to Alex Rodriguez, “How my ass taste?”

Dela G says:

a-rod doesn’t make that error

Jamal G. says:

… And you don’t get sarcasm. ;)

Zach says:

yes, arod never makes errors

BigBlueAL says:

Kate Hudson asks ARod the same question every night.

Teix is the Man says:

Tank the Frank says:

And Alex says, “It’s not Grade A Kate Hudson ass… but it’s alright. About average.”

cjc says:

an 0′fer and an error where exactly is there room for ransom to talk

Salty Buggah says:

I still can’t imagine what he would have done today. Jeter and Posada and somewhat Tex are having a field day at the plate.

9 runs + A-rod = maybe 12-13 runs?

J says:

alex rodriguez says, “i have sex with kate hudson. i dont need to taste yo ass bitch!”

Evan says:

I *heart* oppo field home runs from Jeter.

Heh, remember when everyone was saying the Yanks should sign BJ Ryan to be the set up man, with the promise of taking over at closer once Mo retired?

Teix is the Man says:

would have been an okay deal, just too many years

cjc says:

it made perfect sense at the time

Yeah, but giving a reliever a long term deal never works.

Teix is the Man says:

marte!!!! ziiinnngggg

Dela G says:

only team i have ever seen it work for is the astros/mets with billy wagner

Teix Marks the Spot says:

I actually kinda feel bad for BJ Ryan. He has fallen off of the top of the closing world. But whatever I quickly stopped caring.

J says:

damn just a little quicker next time tex!

Tank the Frank says:

Pull that ball more Tex what do you think this park is for!?!

J says:

Little Bill says:

Damn. So close.

cjc says:

hey a pop for bill the baker

Jackson says:

Dirk Hayhurst sounds like a fake name

Salty Buggah says:

He actually used to have a “non-prospect diary” at Baseball America’s site where he wrote about life in the minor leagues once a week or so. It was very interesting, talked about what it’s like to get promoted, demoted, to see friends released, stuff like that.

cjc says:

Drew says:

“it’s a tough game to enjoy” I’m so sorry you find your job so tough to enjoy Kay, want to trade?

JobaWockeeZ says:

It’s the damn fifth!!?!

Zach says:

does the game end before 6:30? i say no

Teix is the Man says:

This game problably won’t end til 5:30 at the earliest.

J says:

… who’s going to pitch for the yankees today? tomko? Aceves? coke? robertson?

cjc says:
J says:

swisher should pitch

Little Bill says:

Alby, Aceves, maybe Robertson, and Mo. Coke pitched 2 yesterday so I don’t think we’ll see him.

Little Bill says:

YES! 10-8 lead! Let’s go bullpen!

Salty Buggah says:

Posada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARX says:

Now, does the ‘pen have enough left in the tank to hold this lead…

Dela G says:

POSADA BABAY!!!

e mills says:

ArodMVP217 Retire 51 says:

Lol @ Lidge striking out the (Los Mets) side. yes i realize i said ‘the’ twice

was santana on 3 days rest?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Zach says:
