I’m going to go out on a limb and say this game won’t end 10-8.

  1. JobaWockeeZ says:

I blame Matsui not hitting the ball hard enough so Posada could score.

    • J says:

nono, he hit the ball too hard. should’ve hit it softer.

blame posada for being a catcher and not being able to run a little faster at age 38.

      dfa them both, those washups!

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

True true, if Cervelli and Posada were there this game would have been 20-0 us! Matsui/Kennedy/Cano for Ian Kinsler!!

  2. Evan says:

Ah, the adventures of Posada running the bases.

  3. Little Bill says:

That Matsui looks old and finished. All he does is hit grounders to second. Let’s DFA him and put Cervelli at catcher.

  4. ARX says:

    *snaps the limb*
I hope youre wrong. Unless it ends 14-8, then it’s ok.

  5. Dela G says:

    posada, really?

    lol

  6. ArodMVP217 Retire 51 says:

I blame Raul Chavez Joba getting hit around. that and not calling a slider on 0-2 first AB

  7. cult of basebaal says:

Did Kay just say “that was so phony … it turned me on” coming back early from the break???

  8. Dela G says:

“That was so phony, it turned me on”

    Michael Kay

  9. dkidd says:

could we be watching the longest 9 inning game ever?

  10. ARX says:

I wonder if Johan ever wishes he were with us. Or even still in Minnesota.

  11. Zach says:

ellsbury just walked with bases load, 5-4

  12. Evan says:

Great command, Mark Lowe. *rolls eyes*

  13. charlespoet says:

I love that every HR by Papi is newsworthy. How sad sports repoting has become. A past his prime former steroid user gets a HR and suddenly it is breaking news.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

I love how every fly ball he hits is newsworthy.

    • Zach says:

considering he was hitting .200 and less HRs then Gardner, it is newsworthy.

and Yankee fans shouldnt be talking about other teams and steroids

      • mvg says:

Why not? Because “our guys” who have done it have been more publicized? Please. after 1998 until MLB came under serious media scrutiny, by all accounts it was equally prevalent in all 30 clubhouses. But since everyone loves to hate the Yankees, and the fact that the NY sports media is, well, the NY sports media, the Yanks have more names out in the open. We have as much right as anyone else to talk about other teams…

(Not to even get into the argument that our money is just as good as any other teams’ fans’, and the game is first and foremost a business.)

    • J says:

that and joba needs to be a RP.

      oh wait didn’t you…

  14. Brazilian Yankee says:

So, what’s the plan? Aceves for 2, Hughes and Mo?

    • Tank the Frank says:

Probably, if it stays this way. But I’d love to see Hughes and Mo get a day off. I hope the Yankees score 3 or 4 more runs and we can get D-Rob to close it out.

  15. Drew says:

We gotta do something about Ace’s number. WTF is 91!

  16. Dela G says:

    7-4 boston

  17. Mike Axisa says:

I’m starting to think that Al Aceves is one of those rubber armed guys that could pitch multiple innings every day and not show any ill effects.

  18. DreDog says:

I just walked in and saw Joba’s line. Not all the runs were earned. How bad was he?

  19. Evan says:

One away? I guess that was a force of habit.

  20. Salty Buggah says:

    I heart Ace

  21. Dela G says:

    ace is tight

  22. Little Bill says:

What I don’t understand about the Joba to the bullpen people is why they want Hughes to replace Joba in the rotation. Hughes’ numbers as a starter were worse than Joba’s and Hughes is pitching very well in the bullpen. It’s a very irrational argument no matter how you look at it.

    • Dela G says:

don’t use facts, bjobbers don’t like facts

    • ARX says:

Its also an argument thats not going away, no matter how many times people here ridicule it, no matter how hard they try to blast such posters off RAB. So why waste so much energy? Am I the only one who just scrolls past the dumb comments without letting them bother me?

Meh, fuck the Sox, just saw the scoreboard.

  23. Evan says:

I would not want to be the catcher when Wakefield gets into the ASG.

  24. ArodMVP217 Retire 51 says:

Let’s go Robi, no one on base

  25. gio says:

I think the Joba to the bullpen argument has been rekindled because of Hughes’ role in the bullpen. He was effective as a starter, and the organization still views him as a starter down the line. Obviously, a good SP is likely going to be an effective RP. Now that Wang has gone down and it doesn’t look like Hughes is going to be the replacement, many people, including myself (and I’ve never been a b-jobber), are wondering why this logic is being used for Hughes and not Joba. I really don’t understand it. At this point, if doing so wouldn’t harm either’s future, I think reversing their roles would provide the Yanks with a stronger rotation AND bullpen.

    • Little Bill says:

But Hughes was worse than Joba as a starter! It doesn’t make any sense. I think both should be starting. Are you Joba to the bullpen people capable of remembering what happened past last week?

    • ARX says:

Joba >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hughees. At least thats the impression I’m starting to get around here. Even the mere suggestion of Joba to the pen, for any reason, for any stretch of time, sets people off, yet, Hughes is there NOW, and nowhere near the amount of venom. If their roles actually were reversed, I think this blog would actually catch fire.

      • Mike Axisa says:

Oh, I’m not happy at all about Hughes in the bullpen, and I’m especially not happy they’re not giving Wang’s rotation spot now.

What more do they need? It’s the perfect situation.

      • gio says:

I just don’t (haven’t) see (seen) it from Joba (yet). Hughes’ superior control says to me that he will be more successful as a starter than will Joba. Also, his stuff translates better to starting than does Joba’s.

        • Accent Shallow says:

Depends. Did you see Joba start in 2008? Christ. His stuff was so electric, even when he had mediocre starts. It was like nothing I’d seen from anyone in a Yankee uniform in years.

Now, if Joba long-term is going to be more like 2009 Joba stuff-wise, then Hughes may be a more successful starter long-term. Even then, it’s very close.

    • Pete c. says:

Doesn’t Chamberlain have an innings limit this season? As well as Hughes. Seems to me, reversing rolls when Chamberlain gets close to his limit, August sometime and having Hughes stretched out in the minors at some point might not be a bad idea.
I’m not saying this is a permanent move but a way to utilize each pitcher over the duration of the season. This has to be something brought up earlier.

  26. dygg says:

So, can we assume with Aceves pitching, that he won’t be taking Wang’s spot in the rotation?

  27. Andrew says:

    over/under game length 5 hours.

  28. J says:

lol another slider, another K. ransom is such garbage.

  29. Brazilian Yankee says:

Why is Ransom angry? The fans should be the angry ones.

  30. Dela G says:

nice job by swish and the pat on the back

  31. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Man, the Tigers should have sent Justin Verlander to the pen last year when his stuff wasn’t there, and he was such an ineffective starter.

But wait! He’s pitching to a 3.54 ERA this year, with a K/9 over 10!

Those silly young starters and their inconsistencies.

  32. e mills says:

I suppose he could go another now

  33. Salty Buggah says:

    ACE!

  34. Mike Axisa says:

I hope Girardi doesn’t try to get cute and just leaves Aceves in there for the 8th.

  35. Evan says:

    Yay to sanity!

  36. Dela G says:

    great job ace

    you are da man!

  37. dkidd says:

the padres have combined camo tops with red caps to create the ugliest unis in history

  38. Dela G says:

    another terrible joke by kay

  39. Brazilian Yankee says:

    So, who pitches the 8th?

  40. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Porcello gave up six runs in four innings today!

    DFA him, Detroit!

  41. dkidd says:

did pablo sandoval make the ASG?

  42. Drew says:

    well that was sketchy.

  43. ArodMVP217 Retire 51 says:

    League doesn’t look badass enough

  44. J says:

    hip hip!!

  45. Dela G says:

    tex with the loud expletive!

  46. Mike Axisa says:

GIDP? Put Cervelli in, Posada’s toast!

    • J says:

activate Molina. promote montero! something!! 4-5 and a GIDP?! has never hit for 5 hits in a game. ridiculous!!!!

  47. gio says:

Even at 4-4, Jorge couldn’t resist the temptation of an inning-ending DP. And please don’t overreact to this “criticism.”

  48. e mills says:

who put that Cano jersey on Posada

  49. Dela G says:

has aceves ever done well in the 3rd inning of an outing?

    not harping, just wondering

  50. ARX says:

I am so sick of that damn whistle.

  51. Evan says:

Aceves for the Gold Glove! ;)

  52. e mills says:

guess we know who’s getting the belt if the score remains the same or they win

  53. Mike Axisa says:

Fuck it, let Mo rest and run Aceves back out there. Mo’s been overworked of late anyway.

  54. dkidd says:

    gangster!

  55. J says:

everytime i see aceves dominate like this, i miss mike mussina. he was such a good player.

  56. Little Bill says:

I wonder how Aceves got through that 8th. He doesn’t have the ice water in his veins like Hughes and Joba do.

  57. Jake H says:

Seeing the gangster do this I wonder if the coaches should show this to joba and say this is how you attack hitters.

  58. Little Bill says:

Nobody is warming up! Aceves can’t possibly pitch the 9th! He doesn’t have the mental makeup.

  59. Mike Axisa says:

Mo’s not up, Aceves going for the 12 out save!

  60. e mills says:

I see some pine in Cano’s near future

    • Jamal G. says:

Yes, because getting two hits in a game – and not to mention being robbed of a third just now – deserves time on the bench.

      • Accent Shallow says:

I just want him to make an out that isn’t a ground ball to the 1st or 2nd baseman!

      • e mills says:

I swear some of you people beat cancer and think everything is so positive and jolly…he def didn’t run that last grounder out.

  61. bonestock94 says:

I wonder if Aceves has the stuff to be an above avg starter.

  62. dkidd says:

cone likes to “ride the hot hand”

    shocker

  63. Brazilian Yankee says:

I’m not sure about this one. Hope it all works out in the end though.

  64. Drew says:

I remember a time when tie went to the runner… gym class was fun

  65. Dela G says:

i guess aceves is going out again w/no activity

  66. DGeezy says:

i love aceves but id like to have d-rob warming..just incase

  67. Tank the Frank says:

I guess there’s always D-Rob to back him up. But if Ace gets into trouble… how quick will Joe go to Mo?

  68. Dela G says:

wow that out call was bull sheet

  69. Accent Shallow says:

Not often does the man who finishes the game have more IP than the starter, as Aceves will if he isn’t pulled.

  70. J says:

wait, so IF aceves got in trouble, joe’s going to be bruney in? lol

  71. Jamal G. says:

    Alfredo Aceves > Justin Masterson.

See, kids? It pays off to be a RHP who can get out lefties. Just sayin’.

  72. DreDog says:

Does Joba buy Ace dinner after this?

  73. ARX says:

Aceves….Wow. talk about making it look easy. Get the brooms ready tomorrow :)

  74. Mike Axisa says:

Check out the motherfuckin’ Mexican Gangster. Much props.

  75. Jake says:

    Thread description fail.

  76. Drew says:

    dropped a deuce on em

  77. Evan says:

Aceves with the fireman performance! Awesome!

  78. Dela G says:

hey mike, so how about that non 10-8 prediction ;)

  79. Salty Buggah says:

    ACE MONEY!

  80. Little Bill says:

Aceves just got through the 8th and 9th in a close game. But we should send Joba to the bullpen because he’s the only one who can pitch that 8th and become the heir apparent to Mo.

  81. J says:

cant believe we signed ace from the Mexi-league last year.

lets hope jorge vasquez has the same impact.

  82. Accent Shallow says:

    Aceves is awesome.

  83. handtius says:

So, can we assume, Ace will make Wang’s next start?

  84. Jake H says:

    Aceves has been amazing.

  85. FL Yank says:

The Mexecutioner better get the WWE Championship belt. That was some damn good relief work.

  86. Joba to the Pen says:

Yep…it definitely makes sense to have Hughes and Aceves in the bullpen so Joba can throw 5 innings as a starter.

    • handtius says:

so, Joba has his shortest, non-injury, start. of course, B-Jobers come out. Just go call Mike F and complain to him. we don’t want to hear it.

  87. Jose says:

The 4-inning save, don’t see too many of those anymore.

  88. Dela G says:

    man Ace was GEICO MONEY

  89. Riddering says:

It’s too bad “Mexican Gangster” can’t fit well on the back of a Yankee numbered t-shirt.

  90. Ivans says:

The Gangster is quickly becoming the most dependable and my favorite member of the pitching staff. Nothing flashy, nothing hyped, just strikes and a ton of movement. He doesn’t nibble, doesn’t get nervous and doesn’t get into trouble with walks. You can literally see his composure as he stands on the mound and just serves up strikes. Whoever is our Mexican scout should get a huge bonus right now.

  91. Mike Axisa says:

10 runs and a win with no A-Rod. I approve.

  92. Joebrah says:

I like the name of this thread.

    hahaha.

The first 6 innings took like 4 hours. I go take a shower in the 7th and come back and it’s over.

    WTF?

  93. Zach says:

the guy on the Red Sox Post-game show said Ellsbury was an all-star snub

  94. Scooter says:

Interesting stuff from Waldman after the game. Eiland said that he was going to have some long animated talks with Joba about pace, among other things. Eiland felt that Joba was way too slow between pitches.

Joba told Suzyn that he felt the best he felt all year, made good pitches, and that the Jays lineup just hit all his mistakes.

Easy to forget how difficult it is to pitch in the majors – even if you have Joba’s talent (or Hughes’)

    • Little Bill says:

Wasn’t it Posada who wanted him to pick up the pace and Jorge was the one who got unfairly labeled as “abrasive and hard to work with?” Maybe Joba should listen to the guy who’s been around for more than a decade.

    • thurdonpaul says:

i was yellin at the tv watching the game, at times joba is ridiclously slow between pitches, he has to get the ball, get the sign, an throw the fuckin ball, he needs to trust his stuff more

  95. Nikhil R. says:

Aceves’ reputation is expanding faster than the universe.

  96. Charlie says:

I missed this game, so can someone tell me what happened to Jobber? Was he as bad as the box score indicates?

  97. Cecilio Guante's number 1 fan says:

Joba’s post game interview was a joke. Ransom needs to be sent out of here. Teach Pena how to play the outfield in the offseason.
