Go look at who Pettitte faced in his first bit of starts at the NYS–they were all against good hitting teams; maybe that had a little something to do with it, too.
Did Kay not mention a stat that Lefties hit Romero much better than Righties because of his great change-up? Unless I’m missing something this is another example of Girardi’s inability to think outside the L/R box, being that all the switch hitters are batting right.
Are you really suggesting that Girardi tell Teixeira, Posada, and Swisher to hit left handed against a lefty (which they have probably never done in their life) because a stat suggests Romero’s changeup is less effective against lefties? Really?
It seems like the Yankees have given up quite a few home runs this year to guys like John McDonald and Cesar Izturis who aren’t going to hit more than 1 or 2 for the season.
It happens to this time quite often. We get beat long by the lightest hitters. With Seattle it was Cedeno. Today it is McDonald. Add Nick Green and countless others to the mix.
So, would you rather have the good hitters beat us? It doesn’t really matter does it. If they lose, they lose. It doesn’t matter what hitters get hits.
To lay down like this is unacceptable. First of all, Andy Pettitte needs to go to the bullpen. 5 walks? And where was that velocity? Worse than Joba. WHIP worse than Joba. ERA worse than Joba. Winning 10 out of 12 games is ok, but anything less than 12 out of 12 is a failure. I don’t know what happened to Andy and Joba. It must be that dick Posada trying to call the game his way. Who does he think he is?
Bruney’s had 50 good innings in pinstripes, and people then expect him to turn into a sub 1.40 WHIP reliever. Bruney’s good but he’s not the answer for high leverage situations that occur before the 9th.
Why couldn’t Bruney “work his way back” in the minors? If I remember correctly, he had one appearance in Scranton before being rushed back. That isn’t conducive to any good results, either for the team or for his psyche. They keep talking about him still “working his way back” and it bothers me that he’s doing it at the only level that matters.
I am curious, is the consensus that Pettitte is pitching well or just horribly inconsistent? I think it was Mike Axisa on his twitter feed that called Pettitte Jekel and Hyde, which is pretty accurate.
I didn’t expect much more than mediocrity out of Pettitte this season. He’s still an above average #5 starter I think, but I do which he was consistent instead of one very good game then one very bad game.
He is clearly not willing to throw to hitters at home. 5BB today? He is pitching away from contact because everytime he leaves the ball up it’s going to be a HR.
He said so himself he aware of the HR’s leaving the park at home.
Yeah, and he pitched a great game in his last start so why didnt the stadium effect him then? why did he only have 1 walk? why didnt he give up 4-5 runs?
I don’t know, because it was only one game? By your logic he should pitch the exact same every time out. He has enough starts at home and on the road to come up with a formidable comparison. His home and away splits are significantly different. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he gives up more runs at home.
Maybe, or maybe Pettitte is less in control of the outcome than he ever was. I would be the good start, bad start thing is only about results, and the peripherals from start to start are about the same. He gets fewer ground balls, fewer strike outs, and fewer strikes in general. He’s just a 4th/5th starter these days.
I love watching mailed in efforts on weekday afternoons. Its not like they would actually show up for the fans who take off work and the kids who skip out on summer school. geesh.
Dude don’t complain, umpiring is very tough, especially when you are too fat to move or make the right call. Just trying to save you from getting pounded.
I would complain again about that call at second but was told earlier umpiring is 18 times harder than I think. So I guess the obvious miss of that call was just an aberration.
So, good call ump, tough game you’ll get it right next time.
Arguing a call. Ump called Jeter out stealing second, replay showed he was safe. Throw beat him by a mile though. Still a dumb play by Jeter, even if he was safe.
See this is where the bad umpiring annoys me. If Jeter had scored a run and they didn’t get that extra out, we might have had different results. Since we were down by 4, I wonder if Tex or Alex changed their approach or tried to swing for the fences, forcing a K. I know it may not be likely, but it makes me wonder what could have been?
Phone convo wit my mother.
Me: Andy stinks.
Ma: I can’t even stand lookin at him since the thing with what’s his name.
Me:Clemens?
Ma: Yeah, they were suppose to be best friends and you should find ways not to rat on your friends.
It’s funny that a 55 yr old mother knows yet the holy roller HGH user him self doesn’t know.
I’m tired of Andy.
I expect a post tomorrow on “Time for a Reality Check” towards AP.
Agreed. Also, Andy was signed to be our 5th starter. So as up and down as he’s been, he’s pretty much given us what a 5th starter should. It’s not his fault Wang was epically bad to start the season and is now hurt.
I kind of disagree, you expect consistency from all your starters, even the fifth. Our team doesn’t know if AP will give up 12 runners or 5 in a given start. That’s not good for any team’s mojo. Even if u expect a starter to give up 5 ER on the regular, you know you have to score a lot. With AP, it’s a guessing game every week for our positional players.
No need for a replay system in this sport eh? This one is for all you baseball traditionalists and terrible umpires out there from my good ‘ol pal Brandon Boyd:
Maybe this performance gets Robertson Hughes’ role, and gets Hughes back to the starting rotation. I say you’d give Hughes and Aceves each 45-50 pitches on Thursday, regardless of who starts, and then give Hughes the rotation spot thereafter. Robertson can handle the late inning pressure situations for the time being.
Forget I said “this performance.” Replace it with “his performance up to and including this game….” Robertson is dealing, and he is capable of holding down a high-leverage role.
No, without Hughes’ new-found grit as a reliever, the bullpen will just collapse. Coke, D-Rob, Aceves… owe everything to having Hughes in the bullpen. The team is clearly better off starting Mitre in Wang’s place and keeping Hughes as a gritty reliever.
Sooo… AP to the pen or AAA? Which is it? I know we don’t grade a young pitcher as harshly as we do a “grizzled” vet. Or, is this just a throw away start today for AP?
John Heyman’s on WFAN today, he said he talked to a scout who watched Austin Jackson and he said he was ‘very impressed. very impressive young athlete’
Keith Law really seems to know his stuff, but he (this is my perception, not necessarily the truth) seems to rarely change his initial impression of a prospect.
I’m dissapointed, but Swisher did more than his share today going 3 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI. Everyone else just couldn’t come through, it happens. Coming into today we were 10 for our last 11, that is great, there is still plenty of baseball left.
oh…MLB.tv just caught up…that was a gopher ball that Swisher overswung at. Wow, that ball was right there in his wheelhouse. He’ll be thinking about that one the rest of the day.
I understand that Hughes was warming in the event that they tied the game, but doesn’t it seem like he is warming up at some point every game? Are there any studies on the effects of warming up on the health of bullpen pitchers? Are there any studies that keep track of this aspect of working out of the bullpen?
I was under the impression that keeping track of any time a reliever got up and not warming them too often was cited as one reason for the 2008 Yankees bullpen success.
What a bunch of lazy players. None of them showed up to play today. Andy should be DFA’d, so should Bruney and Marte. He’s no help. The team only went 5-2 on this homestand. that is a disgrace. 6-1 would have been ok. season’s over. lets mail in. we suck.
I guess Joe is happier with Hinske than Melky because at this point in his career Matsui=Melk. I would strongly disagree with an argument that says Hitdeki>>>>Melky, especially late in games.
Oh well. This game is on Petitte for sucking as usual and for the umps blowing an unbelievable amount of calls. There should be an extra ump for each crew somewhere with a feed to check questionable calls. Nice attempt by our insanely good offense, but I knew they wouldn’t be able to come all the way back. It had the feeling of a 7-6 ending.
Jeter just said that that the ump said, the ball beat him, so he doesn’t have to tag him. Oh my god. that’s the biggest load of bullshite I’ve heard in a while. No tag needed. that’s why they got so many calls, the umps changed the rules for the day!
It’s still great that they battled back and didn’t roll over. You want to see that. It was missing in SO MANY games. The fans aren’t the only ones that like dramatic come backs.
Today’s loss!!!
I not going to say I’m ok with losing, but this year’s Yankee team doesn’t give up. In today’s game that was the 4th afternoon game in a row they game it their all. Even though Hinske who had a pretty good start to his Yankee career, swung at ball 4 twice in the 9th when we were down by only one run. This team seems to find a way to be in every game no matter how big the lead or who’s on the mound like Halladay yesterday, I think that if they keep winning series (3 out of 4 from the Bluejays) they will find themselves back in a place where they belong, The Playoffs.
P.S. The blown calls by the umps didn’t’ help the Yanks cause.
Tex……
oh well
at least we got on the board
a HINSKE HOMER!
BOOOO!!!!!!!!! Just kidding
but seriously, he just walked a guy and you go swing at the 1st pitch.
Tex has Cano-itis today, 0-2 with RISP.
0-2 is simply not even close to being Cano-like…
that’s why I said he has Cano-itis today
Pettitte: 11 home runs in 58.1 innings at home, 2 home runs in 42 innings on the road.
STUPID NYS!
yes, stupid stadium which overall plays to our strength and helps us win games and comback.
Go look at who Pettitte faced in his first bit of starts at the NYS–they were all against good hitting teams; maybe that had a little something to do with it, too.
leadoff walks
he went…
double play pettite.
i would give a lot up to get this guy (alex rios) and david ortiz out of our division
Just pay somebody to throw heat at Ortiz’s wrists again.
Do it and maybe the Yanks repay you by giving you free seats behind home plate.
How about the Yankees getting Rios?
FROZE EM!
Gardner needs to pick the ball up. He releases way too late sometimes.
cano… really? tag him more aggressively
Cano is neither gritty nor white, he doesn’t know how. =)
we need to get into their worn out bullpen
unless we can somehow get romero to throw 20 pitches in the 6th… it aint happenin
I don’t know, 20 pitches are not that hard. And we have guys who work the count in Alex and Posada.
If one of A-Rod/Cano can reach, I can see it. Romero hasn’t been especially economical, except with Jorge.
true.
we;ll see what happens
never mind, you were right somehow
Well he’s averaging 17 an inning in the game, so it’s not really a stretch to think he would throw 20 in the 6th.
i wonder how much they pay kay anyways
I’m guessing it’s up around $200k, maybe more.
I’d do it for only $100k
should andy be allowed to pitch the 7th?
I think so, but he should be on a very short leash after 2 walks in the 6th
yes, we need to squeeze every inning because our pen has been overworked.
Why does Michael Kay insist on talking about cameras? For a second I thought he was going to thank the camera.
sub-optimal, arod
Way to make him work guys. 2 outs on 4 pitchs… nice!
Let’s see if Robbie can hit the ball similarly to last time, just a little farther out of Bautista’s reach.
Oy.
wow cano
20 pitches? how about 9
Great inning
McDonald? Are you kidding me?
John McDonald? Really?
unfortunately, at least the fan threw it back
Don’t know who to yell at, Girardi or Pena…
Andy that one wasn’t the stadium’s fault.
shit
McDonald? That’s all on Andy, no blaming the Stadium.
just leave him out there.
Did Kay not mention a stat that Lefties hit Romero much better than Righties because of his great change-up? Unless I’m missing something this is another example of Girardi’s inability to think outside the L/R box, being that all the switch hitters are batting right.
Sh*t, John McWho just homered…
switch hitters chose which side to hit from, no the manager.
Are you really suggesting that Girardi tell Teixeira, Posada, and Swisher to hit left handed against a lefty (which they have probably never done in their life) because a stat suggests Romero’s changeup is less effective against lefties? Really?
yes, and Posada was suppose to hit lefty against JP Howell a few weeks back
Um, absolutely. You (and Girardi) are doing the same thing because a much more generic stat suggests the opposite.
john mcfriggindonald thats just sad
Isn’t it time to pull Andy? Leadoff homer to a banjo hitter, walk to a banjo hitter?
Somebody make sure Pena’s not sleeping.
I can has bruney?
bruney IS a cheezeburger
It seems like the Yankees have given up quite a few home runs this year to guys like John McDonald and Cesar Izturis who aren’t going to hit more than 1 or 2 for the season.
That is annoying.
hopefully this doesnt affect the outcome, we’ll be pissed if its a 5-4 toronto win
damn, I was hoping for 7 innings at least.
It happens to this time quite often. We get beat long by the lightest hitters. With Seattle it was Cedeno. Today it is McDonald. Add Nick Green and countless others to the mix.
carlos ruiz
Definitely the worst was Carlos Ruiz.
So, would you rather have the good hitters beat us? It doesn’t really matter does it. If they lose, they lose. It doesn’t matter what hitters get hits.
exactly. even someone batting .200 is going to get a hit once every 5 at bats
oh well
today is not the yankees’ day…
this has walkoff written all over it =)
It does? You sir have super optimism.
I like where your heads at
Anyone else think A little bit of Luck looks like Pedroia…?
lol
I wonder managers like Guillen say if there starter stunk. “Great Job, you lost another game for us today”???
Wasn’t Andy once a reliever?
Andy Pettitte is a staaaating pitchaaaa!
never?
Andy has 10 relief appearances in his career, counting regular season and minors.
I was recalling an interview with him talking about being a reliever but I don’t think he said how many relief appearances he made.
meant to say thanks for the info
Can Damon pinch hit today? and if so for who? gardner?
Imagine if we lose 5-3. I’m gonna be pissed because of the bad calls.
Hey look, Bruney’s got a patch on his hat now.
= (
haha i think the MLB found out about it
Because of the hard work of RAB, the world order is restored.
Bruney: effectively wild?
Bruney’s command is way off. Candidate for TJ?
Vernon Wells why do you hate us?
i really really wish he would disappear
This blows
and so do you! zing! zang! zoom! jk
I am pleased of Pena for not walking Rolen. What would Girardi have done?
Is is safe to assume this is all A-rod’s fault?
I blame Posada for calling a bad game.
send bruney back to the DL
ouch
7-1, comeback kids yes
big deficit comebacks?
Oh well. Can’t complain with them taking three of four.
Brueny’s slider looks very flat.
I hate watching Bruney pitch.
I think that Cabrera should just go stand where that ball landed. It’s the most popular spot on the diamond.
Great job bruney…
Bruney sure looks like the guy to ready to ease into the 8th inning role. He should go chill in the back with Joe G…
maybe Bruney shouldnt talk about other pitchers until he learns how to be effective for more then one season
Anybody read Page Six today?
yeah it was a good page six
What happened?
Something RAB related.
Just gotta let Bruney pitch and get his stuff back, its the only way.
isnt that minor league rehab assignments are for?
Well, you can’t win ‘em all. If they don’t come back, 3/4 is good to me. I rather them loose a clunker then a 2-1 game.
I almost thought you were serious for a second
Let me guess, its all a case of variance
Little Bill’d
Wow I was confused if this was a joke until I got to the must win 12 out of 12 part. Way to be
eh no one has complained about that today so no point in being sarcastic to bring that up. It’s just not our day and everyone understands.
+1.
And i’m not kidding.
The only way we’re going to win a World Series is if we replaced our entire lineup with carbon copies of Cervelli.
Also, we need to fire Cashman and Girardi NOW, and replace them with upstanding members of this blog.
Anyone will be surprised if Bruney is on the DL in the next day or so????
Bruney’s appearance just entrenched Phil Hughes deeper in the pen.
I doubt one appearance can do that. Hughes is pretty much set in the bullpen this year unless there’s a big emergency I think.
Bruney’s had 50 good innings in pinstripes, and people then expect him to turn into a sub 1.40 WHIP reliever. Bruney’s good but he’s not the answer for high leverage situations that occur before the 9th.
Mark Melancon anyone?
one could only dream…
Police chase >>>>> Yankees today.
i live very close to where the police chase is happening in houston
its quite funny
the police looking for you ?
Robertson just dropped a deuce on Bautista.
D-Rob just dropped a deuce on him.
go up a couple posts
That’s just wrong.
This is an important outing for Robertson. This is one way the Yankees can accomplish something during an ugly loss.
Look at his Home/Away splits.
He is clearly not willing to throw to hitters at home. 5BB today? He is pitching away from contact because everytime he leaves the ball up it’s going to be a HR.
He said so himself he aware of the HR’s leaving the park at home.
7 IP, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5K in his last YS start
Look at his Home vs Away splits:
Home: 5.37 ERA, 73H 33ER 10HR
Away: 2.71 ERA, 36H 13ER 2HR
I think that speaks for itself. You named one example.

I would be the good start, bad start thing is only about results, and the peripherals from start to start are about the same. He gets fewer ground balls, fewer strike outs, and fewer strikes in general. He’s just a 4th/5th starter these days.
Here we go, comeback time.
comeback begins now?
though I don’t expect it, how awesome would it be if we somehow came back and won this thing?
I love watching mailed in efforts on weekday afternoons. Its not like they would actually show up for the fans who take off work and the kids who skip out on summer school. geesh.
Yep, the player had a meeting before the game and decided, lets lose today, all to spite those who came out to see us. We’re rich.
why the hell are the kids skipping summer school? And why should the Yankees somehow give a shit about it?
lol , i wondered that too, stay in school, you punks
Brutal. I want robots.
no way
+1.
But, we need a human element in the game.
The solution, one word: CYBORGS.
Nice eye, blue.
Oy.
Okay, seriously? Seriously? Seriously? This is fucking absurd. Absolutely fucking absurd.
Its games like today that make me feel I could easily be a ML ump.
a 3-run shot a we’re in business
Shitey umps.
Dude don’t complain, umpiring is very tough, especially when you are too fat to move or make the right call. Just trying to save you from getting pounded.
is there any explanation for how bad the umpiring has been this year? are they all getting old and near sighted at the same time? it’s crazy
Here’s comes a rally-killing DP…
WTF!!
I would complain again about that call at second but was told earlier umpiring is 18 times harder than I think. So I guess the obvious miss of that call was just an aberration.
So, good call ump, tough game you’ll get it right next time.
YES the ‘pen
The umps blew a call again? what was it?
Called Hinske out at second on a “neighborhood” play when Scutaro was well off the bag.
Only explanation was Hinske possibly leaving the basepath, which he didn’t appear to.
that’s annoying as hell. i hate bad calls
League generates ground balls (62% career, but only 50.9% this year).
Here’s hoping Swisher doesn’t GIDP, that would be brutal.
shouldve been bases loaded walk
come on swish. good at-bat
Swisher passing the baton again.
hehe
Hmm, game day says, “in play run(s).” that is usually good…
due. he is.
Now would be a good time for Tex to end his homeless draught.
I hope the All-Star break gives him some time to get his head on straight.
Tex DP here…
And here’s Alex . . .
worst at-bat of the season for tex?
HUUUUUUGE SWISHAHOUSE!!!
Damn Tex. Just … damn.
Teix is the Man!
Tex looks worse now than he did in April.
UGLY one for Tex! Time for a 2-day rest?
uh oh.
I could go for one of those unclutch three run homers from A-Rod right now.
Oy vey.
well that inning ended fast
league has always been filthy
if he had dave duncan he’d be a shutdown reliever
poop
Will someone remind me why I voted 200+ times for Tex?
to piss off Youk’s beard, no?
League: 7 strikes 0 balls
did Alex get booed?
not really
Of course.
Arod and Tex – strike out swinging………great.
Both on three pitches, no less.
i missed the first 5 innings. why did girardi get tossed?
he waggled his finger.
Arguing a call. Ump called Jeter out stealing second, replay showed he was safe. Throw beat him by a mile though. Still a dumb play by Jeter, even if he was safe.
it was stealing 3rd, which makes it a dumber play.
Because he knew what was coming.
Seriously though, he argued a blown call (1 of 3) at third base in the 1st inning.
Whats with our best hitters striking out today?
Tex – twice
Arod – once
Posada – twice
Cano – twice
Everyone else – 0
and the batter with the worst BA in the lineup is 3-3
I don’t know I count Cano as one of our best hitters at the moment…
Cano? Cano is not one of the Yankees’ “best hitters,” and hasn’t been since about mid-May.
Cano is far from one of the best hitters – unless, of course, no men are on. Then he’s one of the greatest hitters I’ve ever seen.

I’m tired of Andy.
I expect a post tomorrow on “Time for a Reality Check” towards AP.
yeah because lying under oath is definately the way to go
Ever watch Chappelle? He coulda plead the fizziff.
Exactly. There’s a line between being a good friend and being a fucking idiot. Lying under the oath crosses over to the side of fucking idiocy.
Agreed. Also, Andy was signed to be our 5th starter. So as up and down as he’s been, he’s pretty much given us what a 5th starter should. It’s not his fault Wang was epically bad to start the season and is now hurt.

oh, so we know how many the rest of the starters will give up every start ?
Whoa whoa whoa…you talk to your mother about baseball? Is that a good thing?
heh. Yeah she’s a big time Yankee fan. It’s all good.
No need for a replay system in this sport eh? This one is for all you baseball traditionalists and terrible umpires out there from my good ‘ol pal Brandon Boyd:
“TAKE THOSE FUCKING BLINDERS OFF YOUR EYES”
Let’s see if Posada can make himself useful with Romero out.
D-Ro 1.1 IP 0 H 0 BB 2 K.
We’re down by 4!!!1!11! Those are stat padding K’s!!!1!!11!1
D-Rob is the RP equivalent of A-Rod!!
D-Rob: 12 strikes, 5 balls, 4 outs, 1 K…not bad
*2 K
good job robertson
doesn’t alex crush Accardo?
Maybe this performance gets Robertson Hughes’ role, and gets Hughes back to the starting rotation. I say you’d give Hughes and Aceves each 45-50 pitches on Thursday, regardless of who starts, and then give Hughes the rotation spot thereafter. Robertson can handle the late inning pressure situations for the time being.
1.1 IP does not get Robertson the 8th inning spot. Especially after giving up 1 R in 4/5 games he appeared in and having 12BB in 19 IP
How nice would it be to have 2007 Jorge with the .338 BA
man i thought he was coming back to that level at the beginning of this season…
oh well
yea I kinda did too
How nice would it be if Alex Rios would have never came to the plate in the same inning were the ump blew the call at 2nd.
yea, that too and if Jeter had scored…
nobody on base, of course cano gets a hit.
probably the best other than ichiro of getting hits with no one on
Not a bad job by Robbie.
Another scout was watching Lars Anderson, and was left very unimpressed.
Keith Law thinks otherwise.
Keith Law really seems to know his stuff, but he (this is my perception, not necessarily the truth) seems to rarely change his initial impression of a prospect.
Yankees have hit into some tough luck today.
today might not be our day
1-9 with RISP
Solid.
Ugh. Millar.
if kevin james ate nick green, he would look like hinske
Gotta pinch-hit Damon right?
come on bandbox!
3-run Jack Johnny!!!! or at least a RBI single
either one works, jeters up next
YES Network is frozen.
Cmon JD
Come on Damon, let’s get a three run bomb to right field.
HBP
GS for Jeter!!!
please take a pitch captain
El Capitan with a chance to be the hero.
Jeters going to get out.
reverse jinx i see
If he does, it will be A-Rod’s fault.
Jeter can tie it but will he?
I’d be more than satisfied with a single
You’d prefer a single to a home run?
Nope but I realize a single is more likely and would be satisfied with it.
Way to pass the baton JD.
Congratulations, the Yankees have brought the tying run to the plate
good call by cito
Sad to see Accardo go. The two outs this inning were crushed. Jeter should try blooping one, instead.
Preferably off the Hinske Pole.
I wish Paul was up
I trust Derek Jeter. Lets go captain.
a jeterian single would be 2 runs, then down 2 with the tying run on base for swisher
Uh-oh, look out for the subpoena from Sterling…
I hate day games.
I’m greedy, I want a slam.
+1
its jeter
You mean the same Jeter who hit a go-ahead home run yesterday?
meh, just get a run here and its all good
Oh boy this is getting interesting.
Swisher with the bases loaded now with the go-ahead run at the plate
I’ll take it but Swisher please come threw here
nice. do the same thing, swish
Cmon Swisher for the lead…
Passing the baton.
Did not expect that walk from Jete.
DJ passing the baton…
A 2-run single last inning, what does Swisher have now?
Not very confident in Swisher here.
Give Jeter a cheap RBI for not being a man and swinging.
Damn, Swish. He just walked a guy, take a pitch.
My thoughts exactly as I watched the Gamecast …
Swisher failed. Cut him now.
OUCH! fucker
Fuck!!!!!!!!!
Hoping for a (gentle) collision, and the ball settling to the turf. So it goes.
aight, the big bats a coming in the ninth
I wish they ran into each other, that would’ve been nice
I would love to be able to watch the Fangraphs WE% during this inning. It’s probably on viagra.
Swish, Mr. effective.
So he sees 4 plus pitches per AB. Must have been a great pitch he just missed
fastball right there
Well, then he missed it.
Yes, he did. baseball is a game of failures. you only succeed 3/10 times if you’re really really good.
Expected a walk from Swish.
Is it Albie? Can I have Robertson once more? Please?
Rios is a douchebag
Rios is a douchebag
is it me or do your posted get double posted all the time?
no, i get double posted all the time. i don’t know why though.
odd
The universe hates you
That was cold man…that was cold.
Such is life my friend
haha =)
The universe hates you
The universe hates you
A double post inside a double post.
I’m dissapointed, but Swisher did more than his share today going 3 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI. Everyone else just couldn’t come through, it happens. Coming into today we were 10 for our last 11, that is great, there is still plenty of baseball left.
I don’t know what I should be more amazed at, the fact that we went 1-10 with RISP or the fact that we actually had a RISP in 10 ABs.
Melky with the late-inning magic once again?
has girardi ruled out moving phil to the rotation this year or just thursday?
there is no way to have him start on thursday and go more than 3 innings unless he is super efficient
right, but has joe said anything about after the all-star break?
O’neill would have worked the count full and lined a hit to left
Paul O’Neill hit .207/.303/.483 with RISP and two out for his entire career.
Sorry, that was 2001, the most recent version of Paul O’Neill.
Yes, but his stats for kicking equipment in the dugout afterward are off the charts.
Paul O’Neill didn’t kick equipment, he destroyed it with his grit
Well, the line drives got caught 79.3% of the time…
so… you’re sayin Paul O’neill is a lazy latino?
No, he just needs to try harder eventually he’ll grit his way out of it
oh…MLB.tv just caught up…that was a gopher ball that Swisher overswung at. Wow, that ball was right there in his wheelhouse. He’ll be thinking about that one the rest of the day.
The rest of his LIFE!
I understand that Hughes was warming in the event that they tied the game, but doesn’t it seem like he is warming up at some point every game? Are there any studies on the effects of warming up on the health of bullpen pitchers? Are there any studies that keep track of this aspect of working out of the bullpen?
I was under the impression that keeping track of any time a reliever got up and not warming them too often was cited as one reason for the 2008 Yankees bullpen success.
can we work some 9th inning magic? hope so…
Is it just me or is teix kinda slumping?
i think he is too
He has been pretty bad lately offensively. He hasn’t hit a HR in a loooong time
Posada keeping it alive.
robbie won’t
robbie will.
good
tying run to the plate please
PH for Melky? Ugh…
Why ugh? Hideki has been absolutely raking of late.
Melky. Wins. Games.
Believe me, I hope egg is on my face in two minutes but I love Melk in this spot.
Because Melky has been so clutch this year. We’ll see if the baseball gods agree. If they do, they’ll punish the Yankees with Matsui making an out.
Thank god posada didnt double because then this game would have been over with cano up
come on hideki!!!
What a bunch of lazy players. None of them showed up to play today. Andy should be DFA’d, so should Bruney and Marte. He’s no help. The team only went 5-2 on this homestand. that is a disgrace. 6-1 would have been ok. season’s over. lets mail in. we suck.
Oh wait, the game is still going on?!?!?
This is prime Melky real estate.
Ouch.
So Bautista’s quota for great defensive plays is two, apparently.
Hehe, IETC.
yep. anymore and he owes his soul to the devil.
My rally cap is wearing it’s little mini rally cap
Whole heartedly disagree with pinch-hitting matsui
Yeah he sux. We should call up Shelley.
hah!
wouldve preferred melky then matsui to matsui then hinske
Godzilla!
GODZILLA!
I hope they tie it up just to see what the outfield looks like in the 10th. Swisher/Damon/Hinske?
Or they can walk-off with a win, I’m ok with that too!
MATSUI SUX111!!!! DFA DFA DFA111!!!
that gets really annoying. just stop
Holy crap. Holy crap holy crap holy crap.
yes!!! hinske’s yankee moment coming up
Way to go hideki.
Hideki!
Get acquainted with the short right porch, boy.
Let’s hope Jay Mohr is right and Hinske is a true Yankee.
There is an overwhelming smell of comeback in the air. or is that my laptop burning my lap?
If Ransom runs here, I’ll cut his balls off.
oh jeez
C’mon Hit-ske!
that looked like ball 4
im loving how the nys fans have come to expect these comebacks
this teams got a hell of a lot of fight in it
LET’S GO HINSKE! DO IT, ERIC!
oh fuck.
Dang it. It was fun while it lasted.
Balls.
double in the gap should score ransom with him running on 3-2
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Tough.
Yikes that was ball 4.
Too close to take though. Given how bad the umps were today, they probably would have rung him up.
Well, you win some and you lose some.
fuckin’ a
trade him back
O well that was still kinda fun
Hanging slider, missed a cookie.
I hate Umps even more now! One of 3 calls right, we win!
Well, almost came back. If we had average umps out there today, we would have won this one.
With CC going tomorrow, I’m confident we’ll start another winning streak.
Hard to argue when a PH gets a hit but I’d much rather ph for Hinske than Melky.
agreed, has anyone been more clutch than melky this year?
good point, melky’s clutchness is undeniable
I guess Joe is happier with Hinske than Melky because at this point in his career Matsui=Melk. I would strongly disagree with an argument that says Hitdeki>>>>Melky, especially late in games.
Since Im an umpire I wont blame the umps, I blame Pettitte and especially Bruney for today’s loss.
There were at least 3 bad calls that might have costed up to 2 runs on offense and 3 on defense…its fair to blame the umps today.
I blame this loss on Joe for 1) not pulling Pettitte earlier than he did and 2) deciding to bring Bruney into that situation.
Better bullpen management and, this is a win.
Heh, better starting pitching and this is a win.
When do you say, “Enough is enough” with Bruney?
Yeah, when the guy’s on, he’s striking out everyone. But, since his return, he’s been, for lack of a better word, crap.
