    Tex……

  2. Dela G says:

    oh well

at least we got on the board

    a HINSKE HOMER!

  3. Salty Buggah says:

    BOOOO!!!!!!!!! Just kidding

but seriously, he just walked a guy and you go swing at the 1st pitch.

Tex has Cano-itis today, 0-2 with RISP.

  4. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Pettitte: 11 home runs in 58.1 innings at home, 2 home runs in 42 innings on the road.

    STUPID NYS!

    • Salty Buggah says:

yes, stupid stadium which overall plays to our strength and helps us win games and comback.

    • Go look at who Pettitte faced in his first bit of starts at the NYS–they were all against good hitting teams; maybe that had a little something to do with it, too.

  5. Salty Buggah says:

    leadoff walks

  6. captain crunch says:

    he went…

  7. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    double play pettite.

  8. Dela G says:

i would give a lot up to get this guy (alex rios) and david ortiz out of our division

  9. Dela G says:

    FROZE EM!

  10. Gardner needs to pick the ball up. He releases way too late sometimes.

  11. Dela G says:

cano… really? tag him more aggressively

  12. Salty Buggah says:

we need to get into their worn out bullpen

  13. Dela G says:

i wonder how much they pay kay anyways

  14. Dela G says:

should andy be allowed to pitch the 7th?

  15. VO says:

Why does Michael Kay insist on talking about cameras? For a second I thought he was going to thank the camera.

  16. keith says:

    sub-optimal, arod

  17. Tampa Yankee says:

Way to make him work guys. 2 outs on 4 pitchs… nice!

  18. Accent Shallow says:

Let’s see if Robbie can hit the ball similarly to last time, just a little farther out of Bautista’s reach.

  19. Accent Shallow says:

    Oy.

  20. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    wow cano

  21. dkidd says:

    20 pitches? how about 9

  22. Accent Shallow says:

    McDonald? Are you kidding me?

  23. Mike Axisa says:

    John McDonald? Really?

  24. Manimal says:

Don’t know who to yell at, Girardi or Pena…

  25. southernyankeefan says:

Andy that one wasn’t the stadium’s fault.

  26. Teix is the Man says:

    shit

  27. Salty Buggah says:

McDonald? That’s all on Andy, no blaming the Stadium.

  28. captain crunch says:

    just leave him out there.

  29. JS says:

Did Kay not mention a stat that Lefties hit Romero much better than Righties because of his great change-up? Unless I’m missing something this is another example of Girardi’s inability to think outside the L/R box, being that all the switch hitters are batting right.

    Sh*t, John McWho just homered…

    • handtius says:

switch hitters chose which side to hit from, no the manager.

    • Jackson says:

Are you really suggesting that Girardi tell Teixeira, Posada, and Swisher to hit left handed against a lefty (which they have probably never done in their life) because a stat suggests Romero’s changeup is less effective against lefties? Really?

  30. yankw says:

    john mcfriggindonald thats just sad

  31. Accent Shallow says:

Isn’t it time to pull Andy? Leadoff homer to a banjo hitter, walk to a banjo hitter?

  32. MattG says:

Somebody make sure Pena’s not sleeping.

  33. southernyankeefan says:

    I can has bruney?

  34. Jackson says:

It seems like the Yankees have given up quite a few home runs this year to guys like John McDonald and Cesar Izturis who aren’t going to hit more than 1 or 2 for the season.

    That is annoying.

  35. Salty Buggah says:

damn, I was hoping for 7 innings at least.

  36. Ivans says:

It happens to this time quite often. We get beat long by the lightest hitters. With Seattle it was Cedeno. Today it is McDonald. Add Nick Green and countless others to the mix.

  37. Dela G says:

    oh well

today is not the yankees’ day…

  38. Teix is the Man says:

this has walkoff written all over it =)

  39. Manimal says:

Anyone else think A little bit of Luck looks like Pedroia…?

  40. Salty Buggah says:

I wonder managers like Guillen say if there starter stunk. “Great Job, you lost another game for us today”???

  41. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Wasn’t Andy once a reliever?

  42. chriskeo says:

Can Damon pinch hit today? and if so for who? gardner?

  43. Salty Buggah says:

Imagine if we lose 5-3. I’m gonna be pissed because of the bad calls.

  44. Mike Axisa says:

Hey look, Bruney’s got a patch on his hat now.

  45. Accent Shallow says:

    Bruney: effectively wild?

  46. Accent Shallow says:

Bruney’s command is way off. Candidate for TJ?

  47. OmgZombies! says:

Vernon Wells why do you hate us? :(

  48. Flynn says:

    This blows

  49. MattG says:

I am pleased of Pena for not walking Rolen. What would Girardi have done?

  50. Salty Buggah says:

Is is safe to assume this is all A-rod’s fault?

  51. captain crunch says:

send bruney back to the DL

  52. handtius says:

    ouch

  53. chriskeo says:

    7-1, comeback kids yes
    big deficit comebacks?

  54. Mike Axisa says:

Oh well. Can’t complain with them taking three of four.

  55. Accent Shallow says:

    Brueny’s slider looks very flat.

  56. Luis Polonia says:

    I hate watching Bruney pitch.

  57. MattG says:

I think that Cabrera should just go stand where that ball landed. It’s the most popular spot on the diamond.

  58. Reggie C. says:

Bruney sure looks like the guy to ready to ease into the 8th inning role. He should go chill in the back with Joe G…

  59. Zach says:

maybe Bruney shouldnt talk about other pitchers until he learns how to be effective for more then one season

  60. Senor A. Boy says:

    Anybody read Page Six today?

  61. Tom Zig says:

Just gotta let Bruney pitch and get his stuff back, its the only way.

  62. handtius says:

Well, you can’t win ‘em all. If they don’t come back, 3/4 is good to me. I rather them loose a clunker then a 2-1 game.

  63. Little Bill says:

To lay down like this is unacceptable. First of all, Andy Pettitte needs to go to the bullpen. 5 walks? And where was that velocity? Worse than Joba. WHIP worse than Joba. ERA worse than Joba. Winning 10 out of 12 games is ok, but anything less than 12 out of 12 is a failure. I don’t know what happened to Andy and Joba. It must be that dick Posada trying to call the game his way. Who does he think he is?

  64. BigBlueAL says:

Anyone will be surprised if Bruney is on the DL in the next day or so????

  65. Conan says:

Bruney’s appearance just entrenched Phil Hughes deeper in the pen.

    • Chip says:

I doubt one appearance can do that. Hughes is pretty much set in the bullpen this year unless there’s a big emergency I think.

      • Reggie C. says:

Bruney’s had 50 good innings in pinstripes, and people then expect him to turn into a sub 1.40 WHIP reliever. Bruney’s good but he’s not the answer for high leverage situations that occur before the 9th.

  66. chriskeo says:

    Mark Melancon anyone?

  67. Police chase >>>>> Yankees today.

  68. Accent Shallow says:

Robertson just dropped a deuce on Bautista.

  69. Ivans says:

Why couldn’t Bruney “work his way back” in the minors? If I remember correctly, he had one appearance in Scranton before being rushed back. That isn’t conducive to any good results, either for the team or for his psyche. They keep talking about him still “working his way back” and it bothers me that he’s doing it at the only level that matters.

  70. Mike Axisa says:

D-Rob just dropped a deuce on him.

  71. MattG says:

This is an important outing for Robertson. This is one way the Yankees can accomplish something during an ugly loss.

  72. charlespoet says:

I am curious, is the consensus that Pettitte is pitching well or just horribly inconsistent? I think it was Mike Axisa on his twitter feed that called Pettitte Jekel and Hyde, which is pretty accurate.

    • Jackson says:

I didn’t expect much more than mediocrity out of Pettitte this season. He’s still an above average #5 starter I think, but I do which he was consistent instead of one very good game then one very bad game.

    • Evan NYC says:

      Look at his Home/Away splits.

He is clearly not willing to throw to hitters at home. 5BB today? He is pitching away from contact because everytime he leaves the ball up it’s going to be a HR.

He said so himself he aware of the HR’s leaving the park at home.

      • Zach says:

7 IP, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5K in his last YS start

        • Evan NYC says:

Look at his Home vs Away splits:

          Home: 5.37 ERA, 73H 33ER 10HR
          Away: 2.71 ERA, 36H 13ER 2HR

I think that speaks for itself. You named one example.

          • Zach says:

Yeah, and he pitched a great game in his last start so why didnt the stadium effect him then? why did he only have 1 walk? why didnt he give up 4-5 runs?

            • Evan NYC says:

I don’t know, because it was only one game? By your logic he should pitch the exact same every time out. He has enough starts at home and on the road to come up with a formidable comparison. His home and away splits are significantly different. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he gives up more runs at home.

    • MattG says:

Maybe, or maybe Pettitte is less in control of the outcome than he ever was. I would be the good start, bad start thing is only about results, and the peripherals from start to start are about the same. He gets fewer ground balls, fewer strike outs, and fewer strikes in general. He’s just a 4th/5th starter these days.

  73. Mike Axisa says:

    Here we go, comeback time.

  74. Salty Buggah says:

    comeback begins now?

though I don’t expect it, how awesome would it be if we somehow came back and won this thing?

  75. /guest'd says:

I love watching mailed in efforts on weekday afternoons. Its not like they would actually show up for the fans who take off work and the kids who skip out on summer school. geesh.

    • handtius says:

Yep, the player had a meeting before the game and decided, lets lose today, all to spite those who came out to see us. We’re rich.

    • LiveFromNewYork says:

why the hell are the kids skipping summer school? And why should the Yankees somehow give a shit about it?

  76. Mike Axisa says:

    Brutal. I want robots.

  77. Accent Shallow says:

    Nice eye, blue.

    Oy.

  78. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Okay, seriously? Seriously? Seriously? This is fucking absurd. Absolutely fucking absurd.

  79. BigBlueAL says:

Its games like today that make me feel I could easily be a ML ump.

  80. Salty Buggah says:

    a 3-run shot a we’re in business

  81. handtius says:

    Shitey umps.

    • charlespoet says:

Dude don’t complain, umpiring is very tough, especially when you are too fat to move or make the right call. Just trying to save you from getting pounded.

  82. dkidd says:

is there any explanation for how bad the umpiring has been this year? are they all getting old and near sighted at the same time? it’s crazy

  83. Salty Buggah says:

    Here’s comes a rally-killing DP…

  84. Dela G says:

    WTF!!

  85. charlespoet says:

I would complain again about that call at second but was told earlier umpiring is 18 times harder than I think. So I guess the obvious miss of that call was just an aberration.

So, good call ump, tough game you’ll get it right next time.

  86. CP3 says:

    YES the ‘pen

  87. Salty Buggah says:

The umps blew a call again? what was it?

    • Accent Shallow says:

Called Hinske out at second on a “neighborhood” play when Scutaro was well off the bag.

Only explanation was Hinske possibly leaving the basepath, which he didn’t appear to.

  88. Accent Shallow says:

League generates ground balls (62% career, but only 50.9% this year).

Here’s hoping Swisher doesn’t GIDP, that would be brutal.

  89. Dela G says:

    shouldve been bases loaded walk

  90. dkidd says:

    come on swish. good at-bat

  91. Mike Axisa says:

    Swisher passing the baton again.

  92. MattG says:

Hmm, game day says, “in play run(s).” that is usually good…

  93. handtius says:

    due. he is.

  94. Evan NYC says:

Now would be a good time for Tex to end his homeless draught.

  95. Salty Buggah says:

    Tex DP here…

  96. Accent Shallow says:

    And here’s Alex . . .

  97. dkidd says:

worst at-bat of the season for tex?

  98. Dela G says:

    HUUUUUUGE SWISHAHOUSE!!!

  99. Mike Axisa says:

    Damn Tex. Just … damn.

  100. BigBlueAL says:

Tex looks worse now than he did in April.

  101. Salty Buggah says:

UGLY one for Tex! Time for a 2-day rest?

  102. handtius says:

    uh oh.

  103. Mike Axisa says:

I could go for one of those unclutch three run homers from A-Rod right now.

  104. Accent Shallow says:

    Oy vey.

  105. Zach says:

    well that inning ended fast

  106. Dela G says:

    league has always been filthy

if he had dave duncan he’d be a shutdown reliever

  107. theyankeewarrior says:

Will someone remind me why I voted 200+ times for Tex?

  108. Salty Buggah says:

    League: 7 strikes 0 balls

    did Alex get booed?

  109. Arod and Tex – strike out swinging………great.

  110. dkidd says:

i missed the first 5 innings. why did girardi get tossed?

  111. Tom Zig says:

Whats with our best hitters striking out today?

    Tex – twice
    Arod – once
    Posada – twice
    Cano – twice

    Everyone else – 0

  112. Salty Buggah says:

See this is where the bad umpiring annoys me. If Jeter had scored a run and they didn’t get that extra out, we might have had different results. Since we were down by 4, I wonder if Tex or Alex changed their approach or tried to swing for the fences, forcing a K. I know it may not be likely, but it makes me wonder what could have been?

  113. Drew says:

    Phone convo wit my mother.
    Me: Andy stinks.
Ma: I can’t even stand lookin at him since the thing with what’s his name.
    Me:Clemens?
Ma: Yeah, they were suppose to be best friends and you should find ways not to rat on your friends.

It’s funny that a 55 yr old mother knows yet the holy roller HGH user him self doesn’t know.
    I’m tired of Andy.
I expect a post tomorrow on “Time for a Reality Check” towards AP.

    • Zach says:

yeah because lying under oath is definately the way to go

      • Drew says:

Ever watch Chappelle? He coulda plead the fizziff.

      • Jamal G. says:

Exactly. There’s a line between being a good friend and being a fucking idiot. Lying under the oath crosses over to the side of fucking idiocy.

        • Nady Nation says:

Agreed. Also, Andy was signed to be our 5th starter. So as up and down as he’s been, he’s pretty much given us what a 5th starter should. It’s not his fault Wang was epically bad to start the season and is now hurt.

          • Drew says:

I kind of disagree, you expect consistency from all your starters, even the fifth. Our team doesn’t know if AP will give up 12 runners or 5 in a given start. That’s not good for any team’s mojo. Even if u expect a starter to give up 5 ER on the regular, you know you have to score a lot. With AP, it’s a guessing game every week for our positional players.

    • Salty Buggah says:

Whoa whoa whoa…you talk to your mother about baseball? Is that a good thing? ;)

  114. theyankeewarrior says:

No need for a replay system in this sport eh? This one is for all you baseball traditionalists and terrible umpires out there from my good ‘ol pal Brandon Boyd:

“TAKE THOSE FUCKING BLINDERS OFF YOUR EYES”

  115. Accent Shallow says:

Let’s see if Posada can make himself useful with Romero out.

  116. D-Ro 1.1 IP 0 H 0 BB 2 K.

We’re down by 4!!!1!11! Those are stat padding K’s!!!1!!11!1

D-Rob is the RP equivalent of A-Rod!!

  117. Salty Buggah says:

    D-Rob: 12 strikes, 5 balls, 4 outs, 1 K…not bad

  118. Dela G says:

    good job robertson

  119. Salty Buggah says:

    doesn’t alex crush Accardo?

  120. MattG says:

Maybe this performance gets Robertson Hughes’ role, and gets Hughes back to the starting rotation. I say you’d give Hughes and Aceves each 45-50 pitches on Thursday, regardless of who starts, and then give Hughes the rotation spot thereafter. Robertson can handle the late inning pressure situations for the time being.

    • Zach says:

1.1 IP does not get Robertson the 8th inning spot. Especially after giving up 1 R in 4/5 games he appeared in and having 12BB in 19 IP

      • MattG says:

Forget I said “this performance.” Replace it with “his performance up to and including this game….” Robertson is dealing, and he is capable of holding down a high-leverage role.

    • RobTen says:

No, without Hughes’ new-found grit as a reliever, the bullpen will just collapse. Coke, D-Rob, Aceves… owe everything to having Hughes in the bullpen. The team is clearly better off starting Mitre in Wang’s place and keeping Hughes as a gritty reliever.

  121. Salty Buggah says:

How nice would it be to have 2007 Jorge with the .338 BA

  122. Teix is the Man says:

nobody on base, of course cano gets a hit.

  123. Accent Shallow says:

Not a bad job by Robbie.

  124. Drew says:

Sooo… AP to the pen or AAA? Which is it? I know we don’t grade a young pitcher as harshly as we do a “grizzled” vet. Or, is this just a throw away start today for AP?

  125. Zach says:

John Heyman’s on WFAN today, he said he talked to a scout who watched Austin Jackson and he said he was ‘very impressed. very impressive young athlete’

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Another scout was watching Lars Anderson, and was left very unimpressed.

      Keith Law thinks otherwise.

      • Accent Shallow says:

Keith Law really seems to know his stuff, but he (this is my perception, not necessarily the truth) seems to rarely change his initial impression of a prospect.

  126. BigBlueAL says:

Yankees have hit into some tough luck today.

  127. dkidd says:

today might not be our day

  128. Tom Zig says:

    1-9 with RISP

    Solid.

  129. Accent Shallow says:

    Ugh. Millar.

  130. dkidd says:

if kevin james ate nick green, he would look like hinske

  131. Tampa Yankee says:

    Gotta pinch-hit Damon right?

  132. dkidd says:

    come on bandbox!

  133. Salty Buggah says:

3-run Jack Johnny!!!! or at least a RBI single

  134. Accent Shallow says:

    YES Network is frozen.

  135. Drew says:

    Cmon JD

  136. Steve O. says:

Come on Damon, let’s get a three run bomb to right field.

  137. chriskeo says:

    HBP

  138. BigBlueAL says:

    GS for Jeter!!!

  139. dkidd says:

    please take a pitch captain

  140. Accent Shallow says:

El Capitan with a chance to be the hero.

  141. John Duci says:

    Jeters going to get out.

  142. Salty Buggah says:

Jeter can tie it but will he?

  143. Tampa Yankee says:

Way to pass the baton JD.

  144. chriskeo says:

Congratulations, the Yankees have brought the tying run to the plate

  145. dkidd says:

    good call by cito

  146. MattG says:

Sad to see Accardo go. The two outs this inning were crushed. Jeter should try blooping one, instead.

  147. theyankeewarrior says:

    I wish Paul was up

  148. John Duci says:

I trust Derek Jeter. Lets go captain.

  149. chriskeo says:

a jeterian single would be 2 runs, then down 2 with the tying run on base for swisher

  150. Teix is the Man says:

    I hate day games.

  151. Mike Axisa says:

    I’m greedy, I want a slam.

  152. BigBlueAL says:

Oh boy this is getting interesting.

  153. chriskeo says:

Swisher with the bases loaded now with the go-ahead run at the plate

  154. John Duci says:

I’ll take it but Swisher please come threw here

  155. dkidd says:

nice. do the same thing, swish

  156. Salty Buggah says:

    Cmon Swisher for the lead…

  157. Thomas says:

    Passing the baton.

  158. handtius says:

Did not expect that walk from Jete.

  159. MattG says:

    DJ passing the baton…

  160. Accent Shallow says:

A 2-run single last inning, what does Swisher have now?

  161. Spaceman.Spiff says:

Not very confident in Swisher here.

  162. Little Bill says:

Give Jeter a cheap RBI for not being a man and swinging.

  163. Mike Axisa says:

Damn, Swish. He just walked a guy, take a pitch.

  164. Little Bill says:

    Swisher failed. Cut him now.

  165. Salty Buggah says:

    OUCH! fucker

  166. John Duci says:

    Fuck!!!!!!!!!

  167. Accent Shallow says:

Hoping for a (gentle) collision, and the ball settling to the turf. So it goes.

  168. Teix is the Man says:

aight, the big bats a coming in the ninth

  169. chriskeo says:

I wish they ran into each other, that would’ve been nice

  170. MattG says:

I would love to be able to watch the Fangraphs WE% during this inning. It’s probably on viagra.

  171. charlespoet says:

    Swish, Mr. effective.

  172. handtius says:

    Expected a walk from Swish.

  173. MattG says:

Is it Albie? Can I have Robertson once more? Please?

  174. Teix is the Man says:

    Rios is a douchebag

  175. Teix is the Man says:

    Rios is a douchebag

  176. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I’m dissapointed, but Swisher did more than his share today going 3 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI. Everyone else just couldn’t come through, it happens. Coming into today we were 10 for our last 11, that is great, there is still plenty of baseball left.

  177. Tom Zig says:

I don’t know what I should be more amazed at, the fact that we went 1-10 with RISP or the fact that we actually had a RISP in 10 ABs.

  178. Chip says:

Melky with the late-inning magic once again?

  179. dkidd says:

has girardi ruled out moving phil to the rotation this year or just thursday?

  180. theyankeewarrior says:

O’neill would have worked the count full and lined a hit to left

  181. MattG says:

oh…MLB.tv just caught up…that was a gopher ball that Swisher overswung at. Wow, that ball was right there in his wheelhouse. He’ll be thinking about that one the rest of the day.

  182. RobTen says:

I understand that Hughes was warming in the event that they tied the game, but doesn’t it seem like he is warming up at some point every game? Are there any studies on the effects of warming up on the health of bullpen pitchers? Are there any studies that keep track of this aspect of working out of the bullpen?

    • Accent Shallow says:

I was under the impression that keeping track of any time a reliever got up and not warming them too often was cited as one reason for the 2008 Yankees bullpen success.

  183. Salty Buggah says:

can we work some 9th inning magic? hope so…

  184. bonestock94 says:

Thank god posada didnt double because then this game would have been over with cano up

  189. dkidd says:

    come on hideki!!!

  190. handtius says:

What a bunch of lazy players. None of them showed up to play today. Andy should be DFA’d, so should Bruney and Marte. He’s no help. The team only went 5-2 on this homestand. that is a disgrace. 6-1 would have been ok. season’s over. lets mail in. we suck.

Oh wait, the game is still going on?!?!?

  191. Drew says:

This is prime Melky real estate.

  192. Accent Shallow says:

So Bautista’s quota for great defensive plays is two, apparently.

  193. JS says:

My rally cap is wearing it’s little mini rally cap

  194. ben c says:

Whole heartedly disagree with pinch-hitting matsui

  195. Accent Shallow says:

    Godzilla!

  196. JS says:

    GODZILLA!

  197. Chip says:

I hope they tie it up just to see what the outfield looks like in the 10th. Swisher/Damon/Hinske?

  198. JobaWockeeZ says:

    MATSUI SUX111!!!! DFA DFA DFA111!!!

  199. Mike Axisa says:

Holy crap. Holy crap holy crap holy crap.

  200. dkidd says:

yes!!! hinske’s yankee moment coming up

  201. Drew says:

    Way to go hideki.

  202. Salty Buggah says:

    Hideki!

  203. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Get acquainted with the short right porch, boy.

  204. Tampa Yankee says:

Let’s hope Jay Mohr is right and Hinske is a true Yankee.

  205. handtius says:

There is an overwhelming smell of comeback in the air. or is that my laptop burning my lap?

  206. If Ransom runs here, I’ll cut his balls off.

  207. Drew says:

    oh jeez

  208. Mike Axisa says:

    C’mon Hit-ske!

  209. Tampa Yankee says:

    that looked like ball 4

  210. James Auchincloss says:

im loving how the nys fans have come to expect these comebacks
this teams got a hell of a lot of fight in it

  211. LET’S GO HINSKE! DO IT, ERIC!

  212. handtius says:

    oh fuck.

  213. Mike Axisa says:

Dang it. It was fun while it lasted.

  214. Tampa Yankee says:

double in the gap should score ransom with him running on 3-2

  215. Accent Shallow says:

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Tough.

  216. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Yikes that was ball 4.

  217. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Well, you win some and you lose some.

  218. Tampa Yankee says:

    fuckin’ a

  219. Steve in PDX says:

    trade him back

  220. Chip says:

O well that was still kinda fun

  221. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Hanging slider, missed a cookie.

  222. Salty Buggah says:

I hate Umps even more now! One of 3 calls right, we win!

  223. Brazilian Yankee says:

Well, almost came back. If we had average umps out there today, we would have won this one.

With CC going tomorrow, I’m confident we’ll start another winning streak.

  224. Drew says:

Hard to argue when a PH gets a hit but I’d much rather ph for Hinske than Melky.

  225. BigBlueAL says:

Since Im an umpire I wont blame the umps, I blame Pettitte and especially Bruney for today’s loss.

    • Brazilian Yankee says:

There were at least 3 bad calls that might have costed up to 2 runs on offense and 3 on defense…its fair to blame the umps today.

  226. Charlie says:

Oh well. This game is on Petitte for sucking as usual and for the umps blowing an unbelievable amount of calls. There should be an extra ump for each crew somewhere with a feed to check questionable calls. Nice attempt by our insanely good offense, but I knew they wouldn’t be able to come all the way back. It had the feeling of a 7-6 ending.

  227. Kulish says:

I blame this loss on Joe for 1) not pulling Pettitte earlier than he did and 2) deciding to bring Bruney into that situation.

Better bullpen management and, this is a win.

  228. Kulish says:

When do you say, “Enough is enough” with Bruney?

Yeah, when the guy’s on, he’s striking out everyone. But, since his return, he’s been, for lack of a better word, crap.

    • handtius says:

Jeter just said that that the ump said, the ball beat him, so he doesn’t have to tag him. Oh my god. that’s the biggest load of bullshite I’ve heard in a while. No tag needed. that’s why they got so many calls, the umps changed the rules for the day!

  229. LiveFromNewYork says:

It’s still great that they battled back and didn’t roll over. You want to see that. It was missing in SO MANY games. The fans aren’t the only ones that like dramatic come backs.

  230. 2bayankfan says:

    Today’s loss!!!
I not going to say I’m ok with losing, but this year’s Yankee team doesn’t give up. In today’s game that was the 4th afternoon game in a row they game it their all. Even though Hinske who had a pretty good start to his Yankee career, swung at ball 4 twice in the 9th when we were down by only one run. This team seems to find a way to be in every game no matter how big the lead or who’s on the mound like Halladay yesterday, I think that if they keep winning series (3 out of 4 from the Bluejays) they will find themselves back in a place where they belong, The Playoffs.

P.S. The blown calls by the umps didn’t’ help the Yanks cause.
