• Dela G

i disagree. That stuff he used to strike out chone figgins was amazing at the beginning of the game

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

So he had good stuff for one batter at the beginning of the game. Pitch f/x agrees with that. No right handed relievers are one-batter specialists though.

      • Dela G

        true that

figgons was fooled during 2 of his ABs though, but yea he needs the same approach to everyone

      • Dela G

        true that

figgons was fooled during 2 of his ABs though, but yea he needs the same approach to everyone

      • Dorian

Incorrect. He had some of his best velocity all year. You can look that up.

        • cult of basebaal

And it’s nothing like the stuff he used to flash, every SINGLE game, as a starter last year.

          You can look that up.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Seconded.

His stuff isn’t gone. His aggressiveness and focus is gone. He’s not attacking hitters and getting ahead, and after he loses a battle and guys get on he pitches worse instead of bearing down and pitching better.

He did that in the past. He can do it again. It’s mental.

      • Klemy

That’s pretty much how I’ve felt while watching his past couple starts.

He seems to lack that mental toughness, that swagger he had when things aren’t going well. He’s not picking himself up and saying, “I’m going to get myself out of this.”

        • V

And I wonder how much of that is people (and teammates) hammering him for showing emotion even when struggling (see: Red Sox game where he gave up 4 in the first then dominated, had the fist pumps, etc.).

Ever since the Orioles game with the Aubrey Huff fist pump, Joba’s lost his fire.

      • cjc

        well said

    • cjc

the excuses are getting old Joba needs to take some accountability he is surrounded by enabelers fans and organization both

      • Chris

He’s 23, and has an ERA of 4.25 while pitching in a hitters park in the AL east. He needs to learn and mature and grow, just like every other young pitcher. There’s nothing wrong with him that isn’t wrong with just about every other 23 year old pitcher.

  • handtius

    just stopping in to say

    4/4

    Numba 2 Derek Jeta, Jeta.

  • V

Juan Uribe is the worst player in baseball. Wow. He makes Cody Ransom look good.

Not since So Taguchi booting an easy flyball for Anthony Reyes have I seen such an epic fail.

If I’m the Giants, I release him after the game, lol.

    • Yankee1010

I’m not sure if Timmy Lupus would even make Ransom look good.

    • Chris

He better hope Sanchez gives up a hit or walk in the 9th.

  • dygg

I was led to believe that Damon never GIDP.

  • John Duci

Put Joba back in the pen. It’s that simple. Hughes becomes a starter again and when Wang comes back the rotation will be CC,AJ,Wang,Pettitte,Hughes.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      No.

    • handtius

NO, Joba needs to go back to the minors to learn that he isn’t owed shite and then how to pitch a whole season.

      • V

While I kind of agree, the problem with that is that guys in AAA will swing at his off-the-plate crap.

        • handtius

That’s not the point. he needs to earn his spot again, get his innings up and learn to pitch when he doesn’t have it.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Why do you think the pen is going to fix Joba’s problems? He’s just going to be another reliever unable to get outs or throw strikes.

      • Russell NY

I say put him back in the pen until he fails at that. Even Joba’s good outings have been 5-6 inning stints. I am getting sick of them running him out there as a starter.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

So because you, Russell NY, have no idea how to run a baseball club, the Yanks should put Joba into the pen? Yeah. That makes sense.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Look, Ben, he said “It’s that simple”.

That means there’s no point in debating it. John Duci’s got it all figured out.

  • cjc

uribe made an error and sanchez didn’t give up a hr WTF

    • Zach

because jonathan sanchez is a starting pitchaaah!1!

  • Salty Buggah

    Damn it Damon…oh well.

Cmon Pen and Offense, we must win tonight.

  • John Duci

Yanks are definetly going to lose this one. Stage is set for the Angels to have a big inning.

    even shorthanded

  • sac

joba likes pitching to cervilli better than posada and molina

    • handtius

      Joba like SHUTUP!

  • Manimal

I believe the yankee approach back when was that Joba will be given a chance as starter and if/when he fails he will go back to the bullpen. At somepoint, they need to determine that he is failing and should go back to the bullpen. He is draining our bullpen.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

At somepoint, they need to determine that he is failing and should go back to the bullpen. He is draining our bullpen.

      You’re absolutely right.

      That point is 2013.

      • Chris

You could make the decision that he’s failing as a starter this year (or more likely next), but that would actually require him to be failing. Just because he’s struggling for a month or two does not mean that he’s failing as a starter. Joba’s biggest problem right now is that he’s inefficient. If he were pitching into the 7th in most starts and had an ERA in the low 4s I think most people would be happy.

  • King of Fruity Hypos

    here’s your melon son…

Eric Young: so juan cost you a perfect game–how does that feel?

Ballgame, and bedtime. I don’t have the patience for this shit.

  • Drew

    Oh Swisha, oh Melancon.

  • Dela G

    man this really sucks balls

i can’t believe we could lose this game with the ass beating we gave saunders

  • John Duci

Has there ever been a pitcher who doesnt allow a hit or walk and doesnt pitch a perfect game? Sanchez could finish the night with a pretty line of 9ip 0h 0er 0bb and not have that go in the history books as a perfect game.

  • cjc

well that was awesome the old angels are back

  • Salty Buggah

Oh fuck…I hope the Angels pen implodes.

  • Dorian

I am very anxious to see what Joba has to say in the postgame. It will have a lot of bearing on what I think of him and what I think they should do with him.

    • ArodMVP217 Retire 51

kind of a tough luck loss

Damn dude. They can’t do nothing right in the field tonight. This team looks rattled.

    yikes, cmon Melancon

  • cjc

this team leads the world in bloops fuck this I hate the angels slow death evertime

  • Yankee1010

The Angels are going through about 20 bats tonight.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Gotta hand it to Melancon. He’s really earning a trip back to AAA.

    • Zach

So weeks of fans crying to get him up here to save our pen was for nothing?

    • Dorian

Are you on your period or something Ben?

The kid is making good pitches and they are getting lucky, what do you want him to do. He has broken like 3 bats already. Settle down.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

The line drives down the line and in the gap were really getting lucky. There’s no need to make excuses for shitty pitching. That’s what we’re seeing tonight: shitty pitching.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

If we’re going to send Melancon down every time he has a shitty outing, we may as well release him now.

Fuck that, release all the pitchers in our minor league system. Nothing but established vets from now on. We have no patience for young pitchers. They’re not fully-formed, refined products. Let’s just sign 12 vets every year for the staff and have a $400M annual payroll.

Because we’re the Yankees. You give up a run, you get cut.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

This was Melancon’s 5th MLB game, and he’s given up runs in the last three. I’m not saying cut him, but he’s hardly doing much to impress right now.

Again, all I’m saying is that we’ve seen shitty pitching tonight. Shitty pitching from Saunders, from Joba and from Melancon. Admitting that doesn’t make any of us worse fans.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

No, that’s not all you’re saying.

You’re also saying Melancon should go back to AAA. That comment started this discussion.

Melancon pitched poorly. But he shouldn’t go down. We expect him to be a part of this bullpen in the immediate future. He needs to keep pitching. Here.

              • http://www.riveraveblues.com Benjamin Kabak

Well, I personally don’t think Melancon should be down, but considering how the Yanks have been managing the bullpen, by not getting outs, he won’t stick around.

              • Moose

Wow. Ben and TommyjlsjlksjnkendkndCarlos having a contentious disagreement!!!????

Havent seen that before. And I gotta side with Ben on this – Tommy, your a moron and say the same shit every time. Your the Sean Hannity of the Yankees – all spin, all the time.

            • handtius

But saying he should be sent back to AAA is harsh. Give him some time to adjust. Some players need some adjustment time

On another note…a SF third basemen is hiding in the other team’s dugout.

  • Dorian

Melancon is making some really good pitches tonight. He is just really really unlucky right now.

  • Dela G

    thank you god

we got out of that inning

  • bobtaco

    Tremendous around the horn there…

  • YankeeFan

Is it just me or is Molina calling a horrendous game? It’s a bad part on the pitchers too but that rally against Joba that led to that HR was first pitch breaking balls to the 3-4-5 hitters and Melancon has three pitches and Molina is calling all fastballs. I’m sorry but Molina got in trouble tipping pitches and couldn’t throw anyone out before he got hurt and he has looked good tonight, Cervelli should be up here.

  • Moose

Just out of curiosity, why is everyone so willing to give Joba an unlimited amount of time to “prove himself” as a starter….maybe…he’s just NOT a good starter.

I really think that Joba-Mania spiraled out of control after his bullpen stint in 2007. Since that time, Joba has either been: 1) hurt; 2) average; or 3) bad.

Where is the reasoning behind keeping Joba in the rotation indefinitely???? He hasn’t even come close to a remotely good starting pitcher.

A starter who can’t go more than 5 innings and religiously gives up someone between 3-5 runs per start doesnt usually have a long career in the Bigs. Why should Joba be any different???

I’m not saying DFA Joba, but try some different fellas. It aint workin.

    • Dela G

      because he’s twenty-fucking-three years old

    • Dorian

Once again SHUT THE FUCK UP

    • Little Bill

Because he’s 23 and before his last 2 starts he had an ERA under 4 in the AL East. I don’t think you can pull the plug after two poor starts.

      • Moose

Do you honestly think its just been “2 poor starts?” Gimme a break, outside of the Cleveland game, Joba has either sucked or been average all year.

And in regards to the “He’s 23 years old!!!!” argument – what the fuck is that supposed to mean???

So I guess the Yankees should allow guys to keep going out there and getting bombed and killing the bullpen because their 23???? Easy on the booze fellas.

    • Zach

“gives up someone between 3-5 runs per start ”

hes given up more then 3 ER in THREE out of 17 starts this year

      • Moose

Yea, and 15 “unearned runs” as well. Again, use your eyes bro, not the stats notebook – very misleading.

        • Zach

where do you get 15? its 10
josh beckett has 7 unearned runs, he must go the bullpen tooooo!

    • V

You’re ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Let’s move him to the bullpen so he can walk guys. That’s the ticket! And he’ll learn how to use his curveball and changeup! Wow! You’re fucking brilliant!

      • Moose

I dont even think he should go to the bullpen. He’s not good enough for that either.

He should be sent back down (like Bucholz was) and get his head out of his ass. He’s not MLB material right now, sorry. Yankes should take a lesson from Boston on this one and get this guy straightened out or else it’ll get even worse (if thats even possible).

    • Yankee1010

I bet you’re just the kind of idiot who had never heard of him before he came to the majors in 2007.

      haha I hate that.

    • Manimal

heh I actually know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like there are 20 safeties out there and no matter what you do it is destined to be an interception

    • pat

HAHAHAH, perfect. I’m glad somebody else sees how ridiculous madden can be sometimes. Insane holding or clipping calls, easy interceptions dropped, running backs falling at first contact when they have open daylight. Very frustrating.

  • George G.

Once again… Thank God for Mark Teixeira!

  • Luthien

What exactly happened with Sanchez and Uribe? Not even sure what game it is lol. Just saw that Uribe might cost him a perfect game.

  • Salty Buggah

    Zach says:
    July 11th, 2009 at 12:17 am
then what was your expecatations? 8-5 with 4.00 era?

I don’t know but when he pitching good you guys are comparing him to Roy Halladay. When he pitching bad we can’t expect too much. They can’t keep Hughes in the pen because it mess with pitch count next year.
I mean come on I just want to see this team win.

    • Zach

ok so you graded him a C-, yet you dont have an answer of what you expected out of him this year, so basically you just made up a grading system out of 2 games.

and no one here compares him to Halladay.

      • mustang

“no one here compares him to Halladay”

Please I have you been here when he pitches well. I watched Yankee baseball for 32 years and never seen them fuss over two players like they have with Joba and Hughes. maybe they finally have had enough and thats why Hughes is staying in the pen.

The yankees are here to win games developing hughes and Joba is a sidebar not the other way around.

        • Zach

talking about his talent/potentional is different then comparing him to Halladay, and if some moron calls him the next Halladay then you have to chalk that up to some moron. Just like when Red Sox fans say trade Papelbon and let Daniel Bard close

if you dont want to develop talent thats fine, but then dont bitch later how this team needs to get young, more athletic, build from within, stop trading prospects, DRAFT DRAFT DRAFT, etc

          • mustang

I don’t mind developing talent, but when it gets in the way of the primary goal then i have a problem.

They have 200 million dollars of baseball players out there and we are worry about Hughes pitch count next year. Please he is 22 they will figure it out.
            .

  • Ant

Top offense in the AL vs. the one of the worst bullpens in the league.

This game is far from over

  • Moose

And whose the genius who thought it was a good idea to kick Abreu to the curb for Swisher/Nady……

And to make matters worse, Bobby is only making like 2 more million dollars than Swisher….AND WE ARE STUCK WITH SWISHER FOR 2+ MORE YEARS!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

    • Dorian

JESUS CHRIST Do you offer any intelligence to your posts?

      • Yankee1010

Not if he can help it.

    • http://goldenrule.mlblogs.com/ Bryan V

Another genius comment. Keep ’em coming.

I’m not sad Abreu is gone. Just because a player has a good game vs. the Yankees, doesn’t mean the Yankees made a mistake in not signing him.

And Swisher is doing pretty much exactly as expected.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I have zero regrets about exchanging Swisher/Nady for Abreu.

      None.

      • Moose

Really? Your telling me that if you had the chance of keeping Abreu for ONE year, and then losing that money of the books when Bay, Holliday, etc. become available – you would pass that up for Swisher/Nady???

        Gimme a break. Thats lunacy.

        • Rob H.

yeah b/c obviously the buying every all-star free agent there is really worked well for us in 2001-2007. there’s this thing called role players. they actually help a team.

          • Moose

hahahhaha, yea, because Swisher and Nady are doing WONDERS for this team! Sweet retort bro.

And Abreu is not one of the “all start free agents” your referring too, not even close, but he is a HUGE upgrade over swish and nady

        • pat

Holliday is SUCKING Bay is 30 and will demand a monster contract. No thanks on either.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

          Yes.

Bobby’s old and horrid defensively. He’s playing well thus far, but there was no way to know that he’d be this good back during the winter. Swisher’s been just fine in RF. No complaints there. And Nady’s injury was also unpredictable.

And the Holliday/Bay thing is a non-factor. Swisher’s inexpensive and Nady’s gone after the year, just like Abreu was. Swisher and Nady’s presence on the 2009 roster doesn’t stop us from getting a free agent OF this winter.

In what world could we have had Matsui for Sanchez? Yours? Or the actual one?

      • Dorian

I believe 2 years ago when the giants were looking for help in the lineup there was serious talk about it but Cash wanted more than Sanchez. He wanted Cain or Lincecum.

        • Zach

because Sanchez is not a good pitcher. had a 5.01 era in the NL last year, and had a 5.30 era prior to today’s game, was taken out of the rotation and put into the bullpen.

      • Dorian
        • Zach

he also had an era from 3.80-4.84 as a starter in the minors and was coming off two seasons as a reliver in the majors with era of 4.95 and 5.88. Yankees werent giving up Matsui for that

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

According to both that article and the MLBTR archives, we were targeting Noah Lowry, not Sanchez.

    • Tony

Another young pitcher for Francesa to bitch about.

  • V

    Zero hits. Zero walks.

    Not a perfect game.

    • Drew

But he just saved a shit load of money on his car insurance.

      • dygg

        ietc

  • dygg

Is it just me, or does it seem like players and fans alike need to relax for a few days over this all-star break.

    • Zach

why does it matter? once we’re down 1-0 in the 3rd inning people are going to be bitching again

      • dygg

        fair enough.

    • V

I bet the players are feeling fine during this 13-2 stretch.

      • dygg

I bet some of them do. And some of them don’t.

      • dygg

Also, really, I was complaining about all the complaining.

  • Dela G

    NO HITTER!!

  • Zach

SF took Sanchez out of the rotation and in the bullpen for 2 appearances, then throws a no-no. we need to do this with joba!!!

  • Dorian

Can someone explain why the no-no keeps ending with the guy looking at strike 3?

  • Ivan

Melky ur swing at balls here.

  • dygg

    awesome AB

  • bobtaco

Whatever happens, awesome AB by Melky here…

  • George G.

    THE MELK MAN! YEAH!

  • Little Bill

BASE HIT! BASE HIT! CLUTCH MELKY!

  • Yankee1010

They can’t even pinch-hit Hinske here now because Jeter is the DH.

    Nice at-bat, Melky.

    • Yankee1010

I guess they’re giving up the DH.

  • Manimal

    Melkman delivers once again.

  • dkidd

    mame my juevos, scioscia

  • Dorian

LIKE I SAID…We will win this game

  • Ivan

    Melky=Clutch.

  • Bam Bam Balboni

Very nice Melky. That was a great AB.

  • Drew

Get rid of this guy Melky. He’s lazy.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Look at Melky work that pitcher over!

  • Salty Buggah

    Melky!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!

I’m beginning to this he is actually clutch and not lucky!

  • George G.

Matsi can hit lefties!! WTF Girari!

  • bxpd

Who plays short in the bottom of the innning? You don’t want to lose the DH this early, do you?

    • dkidd

      arod

      • dkidd

kidding, but it would be fun to see

    • Yankee1010

It looks like it’s going to happen. I doubt they move A-Rod over there.

  • Salty Buggah

    hmmm who plays SS now

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Doesn’t this pinch hit mean we lose our DH?

    • Little Bill

We will when Jeter takes the field at SS. Don’t matter though. We’ll just PH for the pitcher if it comes up. Hinske can PH.

  • Tank the Frank

I can’t believe we scored against Jepsen. His facial hair is way to dangerous looking.

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon come through please JoPo

  • bobtaco

Yes, nice eye there from Jorge…

  • Bam Bam Balboni

    C’mon Godzilla !

  • George G.

Now does Giradi make another move just because?

  • Little Bill

    It’s up to Matsui here.

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon through please Molina

  • Ivan

    Lets Go.

  • Manimal

Matsui might have good numbers vs lefties, but against a LOOGY he is helpless

  • V

Isn’t ARod 1 HR away from Ripken’s HRs as a shortstop record?

  • stuart

you do not pull joba from the rotation but you get the meathead to realize he needs to stop nibbling, listen to his cathcer, and work his ass off inbetween starts..

he needs to use his brain……………………

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      That.

  • Salty Buggah

okay never mind…Please come through Matsui

  • Drew

    Time for a fresh brewski.

  • Dela G

    cmon hideki!!!

  • Reggie C.

    damn.

  • George G.

    DAMMIT!

  • V

Ugh, I thought he had that.

  • Bam Bam Balboni

    Son of a………

  • Little Bill

    Damn. Almost had it.

  • bobtaco

Damn, if it was closer to the wall…

  • Accent Shallow

So close. Hopefully they can wipe that smug look off Scioscia’s face later.

  • Drew

    Damnit.

  • Ivan

    Just missed it.

  • Manimal

God damn it Abreu! I though he was scared of the outfield wall!

  • Dela G

    damn it!!!

    i thought that was gone!

  • Salty Buggah

damn, oh well hopefully we get 2 next inning and don’t give up any more runs

  • dkidd

    someone should’ve yelled “wall!!!!!!”

  • Dela G

jon miller is the best radio guy in the league

he sounds like FDR during his fireside chats

  • Ivan

Alright the yanks are down one with 2 innings to go. Not to mention top of the order due up in the top of the 8th.

  • dkidd

giants have 13 no-hitters. is that the most of any franchise?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Well, they’ve also got the most wins of any franchise.

      Stands to reason.

    • Dela G

the dodgers have the most with 20

      the red sox have 19

  • Reggie C.

    Joba for J. Sanchez

    he threw a no-hitttaahhhh!!

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Joba for Jason Varitek.

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Imagine how many no-hitters he could have if Varitek were catching him!!!

  • bobtaco

    Tex, ridiculous.

  • George G.

Third time’s a charm…. Thank God for Mark Teixeira!!

  • Dorian

WE ARE 17 GAMES OVER AND DOWN ONE RUN ON THE ROAD WITH ABSOLUTELY NO BULLPEN TO SPEAK OF. EVERYBODY CALM DOWN

    • Dorian

maybe i should calm down lmao

      • Tank the Frank

Everyone just KEEP YOUR COMPOSURE !!!!!

  • Manimal

The gold glove award this year should be interesting. Youk vs Tex again.

  • gxpanos

    Jesus Tex. So damn good.

  • Ivan

I really fuckin love Mark Teixiera.

  • George G.

    O.
    M.
    G.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Nice Casti … Jeter.

  • Little Bill

PUT RANSOM BACK IN AT SHORT!

  • bobtaco

Some kind of weird shit tonight for sure…

  • Manimal

    Jeter harnessing his inner Castillo

  • dkidd

looks like a dh out there

  • Tank the Frank

This is just one of those games.

  • Accent Shallow

So it goes. Better now than bottom of the ninth sometime.

  • Bam Bam Balboni

    Jeter caught Castilloitis.

  • Cokie

WHAT?! WTF dude? Well, at least its not bottom of the 9th.

  • pat

ok lets just forfeit this series. Goodbye.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      It’s game one.

Calm down, pat. Have a roofie.

      • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

The only way to save the season is to move Jobber to the pen.

      • pat

Whew, lost my composure for a moment, lost my composure I think ill take your advice and ta…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Ivan

Jeter, who the fuck u think u are? Castillo?

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

    And, Jeter drops it.

Baseball is a cruel, cruel bitch of a game.

  • Dorian

It’s alright Mark will get out of this.

  • Dela G

holy shit derek jeter listening to castillo???

  • gxpanos

Can the Angels kindly tell the Yanks to which area they’re going to hit the ball, so that the Yankees may move Tex to said area?

    • George G.

      ha!

  • dkidd

    pick him up, powder

  • handtius

don’t think i’ve ever seen jeter do that before.

  • Manimal

    Melancon getting some bad luck

  • Dorian

    OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • bobtaco

How does Melancon not have a pinched nerve in his neck after every throw?

I was wondering how many pitches Melancon was good for. I guess that’s it.

    Suck it up Bruney!

  • Dela G

    why are they changing pitchers??

  • Yankee1010

Ransom seems to be a good guy, can jump out of the gym, and is the backup middle infielder. But he can’t field, he can’t hit and has cost the Yankees the DH in an AL slugfest.

He’s not the best option and people can say that it isn’t that big a deal, but every game matters, especially in a tight AL East.

There is no reason for him to still be on the team.

    • Zach

how did he cost the Yankees the DH? Because if Pena was up here they wouldnt have PH for him???

      • Yankee1010

They wouldn’t be as likely to pinch-hit for him there, that’s for sure. I’m not saying they wouldn’t pinch-hit for him, but Rudy Stein has a better chance of helping the Yanks at the plate than Ransom because at least he would lean into one.

        • Zach

please pena would have been PH so your point makes no sense

    • Bam Bam Balboni

      Agreed.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He didn’t cost them the DH. They would have pinch hit for Pena too.

      • Yankee1010

That’s not a given. Pena at least has a shot with the bat. Ransom has no chance.

Ransom brings nothing to the table.

        And great stuff, Bruney.

        • Zach

          Matsui>>>>>>>>>>Pena

so yes it is a given

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I think I would have stuck with Melancon over Bruney in this spot. Bru’s not right these days.

    • Yankee1010

This wouldn’t be the spot I would pick for Bruney to get right again, that’s for sure.

  • Drew

Here’s to hoping Bruney needs to be lifted for a PH in the top of the 8th.

    • Drew

Wait a second, would he be hitting in Ransom’s place or Molina’s?

  • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

Do you know what pitcher averaged just 5.17 IP in each of his 13 starts during his age 23 season?
Roy Halladay. Huh, maybe it’s not just Joba.

    • Zach

Clayton Kershaw- just over 5.1 IP/S
Rick Porcello- just over 5.1 IP/S also
Max Scherzer- just over 5.1 IP/S
CC (rookie year)- just over 5.1 IP/S

      • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

They would all make great eighth inning guys.

        • Zach

only if their managers/gm were smart

    • bobtaco

But they had to send him back down to AA, and rebuild his entire mechanics from scratch…

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Stop letting facts get in the way of my knee-jerk irrational overreactions.

    • Drew

So you’re saying Halladay should be in the pen.

    • Dorian

No this is different. For some, inconceivable, ridiculous reason this different.

  • George G.

    buying a Tex jersey tomorrow…

  • Kyle R.

Why change pitchers now? Bruney will be due up, so you have to PH.. and Bruney makes a total of 1 out? What a waste? Or am I nuts.

    • Zach

top of the order is up next

    • bobtaco

      depends what happens…

    • Bam Bam Balboni

you hope he gets one out.

  • Salty Buggah

Melancon was good for 45…oh well, get em bruney

  • George G.

    Bruney, stop sucking.

  • Dela G

    man bruney is getting squeezed

  • Accent Shallow

Please, Brian, walk a garbage hitter like Mathis.

  • Reggie C.

beautiful Bruney…keep nibbling. it’ll come back to you.

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon Bruney boy

  • Dela G

    MY GOD

    CMON BRUNEY

I BET I CAN HIT A BETTER THAN MATHIS, AND I HAVENT SEEN AN 80 MPH FASTBALL IN 4 YEARS!

  • bobtaco

    exhale, shit…

  • Dela G

OH GOD MY HEART JUST STOPPED ON THAT FOUL

  • Accent Shallow

I didn’t realize Aybar could do that. Here’s hoping for 4-3 on the next pitch.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Great moments in unnecessary bullpen moves history…

    • Salty Buggah

      Thank you David Letterman

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Okay. That fucking sucked.

  • bobtaco

    Bruney is still effed up.

This doesn’t seem like it well end well…

  • Dorian

I never thought I would want for Phil Coke this much

  • George G.

    “strike this mother f&*&er out!”

  • Dela G

bruney’s avg fastball has been 97!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Bed time.

  • bobtaco

    good night everyone…

  • Accent Shallow

How can they let this garbage team do this? Argh.

  • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

    Ugh.

  • George G.

Bruney is clutch! Got that, K-Rod!

  • Ivan

    Melancon could of done that.

  • gxpanos

    ‘Night all.

  • Salty Buggah

    Bruney throws a cutter?

    • Zach

special pitch, umps refer to it as “ball”

  • Dela G

    BALL GAME OVER!
    YANKEES LOSE

  • Dorian

MUTHER FUCK YU BRIAN BRUNEY!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT FUCK

  • dkidd

i really really really hate the angels

  • Cano wears the GIDP crown.

    bruney fail

  • Little Bill

That’ll do it. This loss is squarely on the shoulders of Derek Jeter.

    • bobtaco

      Really? -1

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

    • George G.

That’ll do it. This loss is squarely on the shoulders of Derek Jeter Joba Chamberlain

  • Drew

    DFA GIRAHDII!!

  • Reggie C.

saw that one coming a mile away.

  • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

This is all Jeter’s fault. DFA that bum.

  • Bam Bam Balboni

Bruney is awful and like I said you “HOPE” he gets an out here.
Goodnight boys and girls. Hopefully the Yanks will win one tomorrow in this House of Horrors.

  • Salty Buggah

blame the pitchers…they didnt have to give up HRs after errors

  • dygg

Either I’ve had too much to drink tonight. Or not nearly enough.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Both.

  • Klemy

Errors or not, you walk a man hitting .195 on 4 pitches and then serve up a 3 run homer to the number 9, you’re not doing the team any favors.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Yup.

I have no idea what is going on with Bruney. He looks like a totally different pitcher.

  • Zach

    bare handed catch? WEB GEM!

  • Dela G

well i’m going to play video games now

    • dygg

What?! You can’t reference FDR and then go play video games!

  • bobtaco

    Holy shit, that was amazing!

    • Klemy

The monumental fail that was a 5-1 lead? The pair of costly errors? The homerun to the number 9 hitter? There was a lot of amazing, none of it the good type.

  • http://ww.youtube.com.kevyyankees Kevin G.

    Ha, Jorge.

  • dkidd

    wow

    never seen that

  • Manimal

That was the most impressive play I’ve ever seen

  • Yankee1010

C.B. Bucknor, it’s OK to wake up and watch the game now.

  • Zach

doesnt Jorge have a bad thumb too? fuckin umps

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

    Jorge Posada >>>>>>>>>>>>> Chone Figgins

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

    nice catch by posada.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Figgins is out as soon as he makes contact with Jorge. Just let that one drop, no need to risk hurting a finger or something.

  • Drew

Posada is balls and Umpires are pieces of shit.

  • pat

Looks like figgins intentionally tried to interfere with that.

    • Accent Shallow

Agreed. Is that scrappy? Or can only white players be scrappy?

  • bonestock94

    Erick Aybar…really!?

There is no excuse not to sweep this team without Hunter or Vlad..

  • Salty Buggah

How good would it be if we can somehow comeback and win?

  • dkidd

glad i didn’t go to bed. crazy crazy play

  • Accent Shallow

Jeez, now I’m just rooting for HBPs.

Like I needed another reason to hate the Angels.

  • bobtaco

Four runs is not inconceivable against Fuentes…

  • Manimal

Its ok, Jorge pissed on his hands during the 7th inning stretch.
