  1. Chip says:

    Joba Chamberlain is BACK

  2. Dela G says:

THAT WAS AN AWESOME FIST PUMP!

  3. Arin says:

Way to bail out Swish, Joba.

  4. Little Bill says:

Take that b-Jobbers and t-Jobbers. Joba does NOT belong in the bullpen and should NOT be traded. He has been brilliant today.

  5. Longo says:

    LOVE IT!

  6. e mills says:

“if you’re going to act like that on the mound then you have to expect the opposition is out to get you and better be able to handle it” ~ Kruk

  7. Salty Buggah says:

Sit down Thames…I like this flame-throwing Joba. Even if he misses his spots, his overpowering stuff can bail him out and that’s why velocity is kinda important for Joba, until he gets better control.

  8. Jackson says:

Joba is seriously bringing it today. He’s throwing really hard.

  9. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Ain’t no one to blame, but Thames for that one!

I should be the announcer for the Yanks!

    (sarcasm)

  10. Nikhil R. says:

    CHEESE

  11. Adam says:

You notice how his stuff is electric when he gets plenty of rest between starts? the only other time i remember him hitting 97 is that cleveland start when he pulled that superman dive. and his start before that one was when he got hit in the knee so he basicly only threw like 10 pitches. then he had like what 10 days of rest this past week? you think that has anything to do with his stuff in his following start?

  12. Riddering says:

Good thing Gossage wasn’t in the booth for that strikeout!

  13. Salty Buggah says:

    Melky HR here hopefully…

  14. Can’t believe Swish is down to .236

  15. Brazilian Yankee says:

    How many pitches for Jackson?

  16. e mills says:

    nice inning there

  17. Dela G says:

man i cannot wait until edwin jackson is out of this game

    he is too damn good

  18. Nikhil R. says:

What has Joba’s average FB velocity been so far?

  19. Mike Axisa says:

Sheesh. Way to take a pitch so Joba can get a little breather, guys.

  20. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Nice inning offense…

    shit

  21. Salty Buggah says:

damn 2 straight 1st pitch groundouts

  22. E-ROC says:

Is Joba throwing his changeup today?

  23. Mike Axisa says:

What’s this, Joba in the 6th? I thought this wasn’t allowed.

  24. KG Sturnz0r says:

    get that change lower

  25. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    SWEET!

  26. Jersey says:

    Jesus, 96-97-97-96-SLIDER

    No hitting that shit

  27. Salty Buggah says:

96-97-97-96 and then finish him off with the slider

    LOVE IT!

  28. Holy crap Joba, who spiked your cornflakes?

  29. Mike Axisa says:

Joba’s at just about 100 pitches. Send him back out for the 7th!

  30. e mills says:

    aight let’s go O

  31. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

98 pitches, dare we bring Joba in for the 7th?

  32. Ivan says:

Joba stuff looks really electric right now.

  33. Little Bill says:

And this is why trading this guy or putting him the pen and bringing up an AAA guy to start is ridiculous. I can’t believe some people were arguing getting rid of Joba. It just boggles my mind.

    • KG Sturnz0r says:

      People overreact.

      • Little Bill says:

Not me, buddy. The Yankees don’t need to deplete their prospects and take on a terrible contract in Vernon Wells to get Halladay for 1.5 years. You don’t give up on guys like Joba and Hughes.

        • Zach says:

You dont have to take Wells to get Halladay

          • Little Bill says:

That’s not the point. The point is you don’t trade Joba or Hughes. It can’t and won’t happen.

            • Zach says:

If its not the point then why did you bring it up?
I’m not saying trade Joba, Hughes, Montero for Halladay, but if it was Joba or Hughes without Montero I’d make that deal

  34. Salty Buggah says:

He’s figured it out in the past 2 innings.

  35. mko says:

It’s nice that we’re all admiring Joba…but how about some runs? ;)

  36. Brazilian Yankee says:

Nice pitching all around in this series. Only Zumaya sucked haha

  37. Evan says:

Now for some run support, please.

  38. Moshe Mandel says:

You want to bet a lot of the Halladay packages suggested tomorrow suddenly will have Joba taken out of them?

    • KG Sturnz0r says:

I esp love other fans saying that Riccardi doesn’t want Joba

    • Chip says:

He’s going the same way Hughes did. Lost some velocity and suddenly everybody thought he was washed up. Suddenly he finds it and he’s the next Roger Clemens again

  39. Nels says:

Posada should not be allowed to catch Joba. Bring Cervelli back.

  40. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I want to see runs offense, give Joba this well-deserved win.

  41. Salty Buggah says:

Every site who had those polls on who to trade for Halladay should do those again. I wanna see how the results change as everyone was willing to trade Joba.

  42. Ivan says:

Yo we have seen some flame throwers in this series. Whether it’s Joba and Jackson today, yesterday was CC and Verlander, and Friday was AJ, Hughes and Zumaya. Talk about just throwing gas.

  43. Zach says:

7 pitches total last inning, 6 pitches to Garnder this inning

  44. Little Bill says:

SHE’S GONE! REMEMBER WHEN TEX COULDN’T HIT HOMERS? JOBA IN LINE FOR THE WIN!!!!

  45. Jake says:

    Tex no like tie game…

  46. Dela G says:

    TEX BABY!!

    A TEX MESSAGE!!!

    2-1!!!

  47. Chip says:

    CRUSHED!

  48. Hova says:

    TEX IS A BEAST!!!

  49. e mills says:

how bout that? thought he had a walk, decided he wanted a HR

  50. Rob H. says:

hahahahaha, Clete Thomas didn’t even move.

  51. Mike Axisa says:

And boom goes the dynamite. Time to lock this shit down.

  52. pat says:

Love it when the Rf doesn’t move a muscle.

  53. Salty Buggah says:

    TEX!

  54. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

    Teixeira, I <3 <3 <3 <3 you!

  55. Riddering says:

Thanks for that strike one call, ump!

  56. JGS says:

    that was amazing

  57. Ivan says:

That dude could hit a FB or what.

    Teix message to right field.

  58. mko says:

Oh boy. Can you imagine Tex being with the Sox? That would suck A LOT ;-)
A-Rod and Tex for many years to come. I love it.

  59. Zach says:

    In play, run(s) :)

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I go nuts whenever I see that.

In play, out(s) sucks though, you never know what it is until they show you on GD

      • Zach says:

exactly. when no one is on base and it says run(s) you know its a HR automatically so its a great feeling that you dont have to wait those extra 15 seconds

    • Permínio Neto says:

I just love to see that. Even more when it’s Tex or A-Rod batting.

  60. Hova says:

Now I rather see the bullpen take over. Can Ace and Hughes each give us one inning?

  61. Dela G says:

    MAN ALEX IS ON FIIIIIIIIIREEEE!!!

    YEZZUR!

  62. Salty Buggah says:

Our 3-4 guys have carried the otherwise lethargic offense today…I like it.

  63. Salty Buggah says:

How was that just a single? seemed to be hit farther on gameday

  64. pat says:

Please, just put the radar gun in the garbage. There’s no point to having it.

  65. Ivan says:

Is Hughes available for the 8th or does Girardi has to piece it together?

  66. Dela G says:

    NICE JOB

    HIP HIP JORGE!!!

  67. e mills says:

    Tex makes that play ;)

  68. Randy A. says:

I really hope Joba has a successful 6th inning, but I DONT like this long break between him pitching in the 5th and 6th.

  69. gxpanos says:

A single right here would be yuuuuuuge.

  70. Salty Buggah says:

Cmon Robbie…another chance with RISP for you.

  71. Man, Robbie’s just unlucky today.

  72. Dela G says:

wow cano always hits into the worst of luck

  73. Evan says:

    Crud, lined it to Santiago.

  74. gxpanos says:

Ha. His RISP avg. goes down, the volume on his detractors up. And yet he scorched that ball.

  75. Jake says:

Nothing wrong with that he hit it hard on a line.

  76. Chip says:

Man that just sucks, he must lead the league in lineouts

  77. KG Sturnz0r says:

    gana la plata, Robinson!!

sweet story b/n Robinson and I. during ST, while Robi was warming up, i told him to “dame una guina” (a wink) and he did! but the kicker is before his next AB, he tossed me a signed ball by him and Alex! one of my favorite baseball moments, and it makes me incredibly biased towards him when people try to doubt him

  78. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Joba in the 7th?

Francesa is having a heart attack right about now…

  79. YankeeScribe says:

If the Blue Jays can beat the Red Sox, why can’t we?

  80. e mills says:

listening to Caray…is Mitre pronounced Mee-Tray or My-Tur???

  81. JGS says:

heck of an outing. Let’s hope the pen can hold it

  82. Arman Tamzarian says:

He’s just fucking with them now

  83. Dela G says:

cmon joe, why the hell do you take the boy out?

  84. Umm. Anyone else kinda wish Joba was staying in?

  85. Mike Axisa says:

    Stands and applauds for Jobber.

  86. Salty Buggah says:

nice Joba, hopefully we win one for you

  87. Ivan says:

Great Job Joba. Just a terrific performance, and I like about his performance he bared down much better after yankee misques and got stronger as the game progress. Great game Joba.

  88. Evan says:

    *applauds for Joba*

  89. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

If coke gives up a bomb here…

  90. 27 this year says:

A good outing. Now Part 4 of Joba Lane wont be quite as depressing.

    • ARX says:

All part of their eeeeeevvilllllllll plan to delay part 4 until he had a good start, thus ending the stroll down Joba lane on a high. Muahaha….ha?

  91. YankeeScribe says:

Will Tex or A-Rod lead the Yanks in HRs and RBIs this year? A-Rod looks like he’s going to give Tex a run for his money despite missing the first 6 weeks of the season…

  92. 27 this year says:

Two straight days where solo homers seem to be everything.

  93. Dela G says:

my best friend watching this game stood up and clapped for joba right next to me

    too funny

  94. JGS says:

    well done, Coke

  95. I like the one pitch one out thing.

  96. 27 this year says:

    YEA NO BOMB!!!

  97. Evan says:

    Wow, that was easy.

  98. Dela G says:

well that was easy for coke

    sorry for doubting you joe

  99. Salty Buggah says:

thats a soft lineout for the person who called Robbie’s hard liner soft.

  100. mko says:

    Kate Smith? Still? Really?

  101. ARX says:

Not thrilled with taking Joba out after he just K’ed 5 of the last 6 batters….but *shrug*, moot point.

  102. chriskeo says:

i just checked gameday and joba threw 107 pitches, 68 of them for strikes

  103. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Joba did a nice job raising his trade value today. j/k

  104. Hova says:

Loved the way Joba pitched today. Looked like a stud. But he’s also pitching on eight days rest. It will be interesting to see what his next start is like.

  105. pat says:

7ip just looks so much better than 6.2 in the box scores.

  106. stolen from LoHud

    Joba at Detroit on April 29: 7 3 1 1 3 6

    Joba against Detroit today: 6.2 3 1 1 3 8

  107. Salty Buggah says:

an insurance run or 2 would be nice here…

  108. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Good time for Swish to show us some of that power.

  109. Randy A. says:

    So Hughes IS warming up

  110. Ivan says:

    So Bruney pitches the 8th?

  111. Mike Axisa says:

So I guess Phil is available.

  112. Nikhil R. says:

I thought Hughes wasn’t available today?

  113. Mike Axisa says:

Strangely, I agree with bunting in this spot.

  114. Salty Buggah says:

    no DP Melky

  115. Chip says:

I think Swisher had that stolen if Melky didn’t swing.

  116. Evan says:

Come on, no more of those awkward hacks you’ve been taking against Jackson today.

  117. Salty Buggah says:

oh no Jeter no come through clutch!

  118. pat says:

    Gritner triple..

  119. E-ROC says:

    Grit with a walk.

  120. ARX says:

    So…how about another jack Tex?

  121. Salty Buggah says:

Gardy has 3 HRs yet no “real” HR (besides the inside the park one) at TEH BANDBOX.

  122. pat says:

Hmm, two tiny chunks of old stadium sod or a chocolate colored creampuff chair??? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT DECISION?????

  123. John Duci says:

    Hughes!!!

  124. Salty Buggah says:

    cmon Hughes…DP ball

  125. handtius says:

Cabrera is just a great hitter. a DH, but a great hitter.

  126. handtius says:

I can’t wait for Hughes to be pitching in the rotation like he does in the pen. It’s going to be so beautiful.

  127. Damn Hughes.

I think the kids are all right.

  128. Salty Buggah says:

    Hughes!!!!!!!!!

  129. Dela G says:

    TODAY IS FISTPUMP SUNDAY!!!

    EXCELLNTE YANKEES!

  130. Evan says:

Thomas was extra late on that fastball.

  131. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

How do you miss a fastball right down the middle? Seriously…

  132. Zach says:

Hughes doesnt have the demeanor for the 8th inning like Joba does

    /goose

  133. Moshe Mandel says:

Wow. Just wow. So good, Kay’s “Phil Hughes was Phil-thy” didn’t make me want to put my fist through the TV.

  134. Mike Axisa says:

Bush league fist pump from Phil. Keep it in your pants kid.

  135. pat says:

Clete Thomas thank you for partcipating in The Phil Hughes Experience.

  136. Ivan says:

Boy when u see guys like Joba and Hughes pitch like this, u just feel so damn proud. Those guys came from the yanks system.

    • Arman Tamzarian says:

Starting pitcher through closer are all products of the farm system, just awesome

    • Salty Buggah says:

Impossible. We suck at producing prospects. We must have stolen them from the “Machine” (which is what one scout called them) in Boston.

      • Zach says:

“they have street cred now- when Red Sox say you’re going to be good, you’re not just good, you make a major impact”
        -Merloni

  137. Andy Stankiewicz says:

How many of you just went from 6 to midnight?
    I did.

  138. The Evil Empire says:

    Where’s IPK?

  139. Cokie says:

How is Hughes so awesome all of a sudden? Did ARod set him up with his cousing?

  140. Chip says:

Can you imagine next season when the rotation goes CC, AJ, Joba and then Hughes? Seriously, that might be one of the hardest throwing quartets I’ve ever seen. We’re talking maxing out at 98, 98, 100, 96 in a four game series

  141. Thomas A. Anderson says:

Phil Hughes is a bad, bad man.

Anyone that thinks that Cashman is gonna give up on Phil, Joba, or Montero after putting his job on the line–more than once, mind you–to get kids like them in the organization, is bat-shit insane.

  142. Ivan says:

Tough series if ur the Detroit Tigers. All you been facing is 95-98 MPH Heat all series.

  143. Arman Tamzarian says:

While were having a farm system love fest, a good little piece from Chad Jennings :Austin Jackson hasn’t had a multi-strikeout game since June 26, a span of 17 games. In that time he has 11 strikeouts and eight walks”

  144. Salty Buggah says:

Nice long AB by A-rod..even though it was a K, I like it. He seems to getting a lot more of those this year.

  145. Mike Axisa says:

Jeez Kenny, they’ve been chanting Hip Hip Jorge for years.

  146. Dela G says:

    HIP HIP JORGE!!!!

  147. mko says:

LOL! MLB.TV cut in early (seems to be automatic now) and Kay was singing along with Metallica…;)

  148. Dela G says:

man could kay have used any more adjectives to describe mariano’s jog?

  149. Andy Stankiewicz says:

    In Mo We Trust !

  150. handtius says:

Since when did Optimus Prime peddle Coors Light? I always thought of him as more of a Duers kind of robot.

  151. Evan says:

    And that pitch was where?

  152. Andy Stankiewicz says:

This Umpire is beginning to piss me off.

  153. Salty Buggah says:

    Mo kinda got squeezed

  154. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Looks like Magglio better get set up with AROD cousin also.

  155. Jersey says:

One more, Mo. Don’t let this punk Laird ruin your day.

  156. Dela G says:

man does this ump know he’s umpiring MO!??!!

  157. Moshe Mandel says:

Trey Hillman should be fired. How do you not go to Soria in this inning? Unbelievable.

  158. Dela G says:

WHERE THE HELL DID THAT MISS??

  159. Evan says:

    Ooof, just a little high.

  160. Mike Axisa says:

That’s just Mo’s third unintentional walk of the year.

  161. handtius says:

    That ump forgot his eyedrops.

  162. Ivan says:

Here something u don’t see often, Mo BB a guy.

  163. Jordan says:

Gameday has a majority of these pitches on the edge. Mo’s getting squeezed big time.

  164. Accent Shallow says:

    Yay Mo! Yay win!

  165. Andy Stankiewicz says:

    How Sweep It Is !
Enjoy the rest of your day. See ya tomorrow night.

  166. Moshe Mandel says:

    Can’t beat first place teams!!!!!!!

    • Randy A. says:

Ya…I never understood that statistic because even though they aren’t in first place, the Yankees handled the Rangers this year too. Just another statistic to detract the Yankees record.

  167. Dela G says:

WOOOOOOOO BALL GAME OVER! YANKEES WIN!

    BRING OUT THE BROOMS BABY!

  168. Randy A. says:

Great series for the Yankees pitching staff. A pleasure to watch.

  169. mko says:

    The sweep is sweeeeeeet!

  170. pat says:

Mariano increased his BB total by 33% today. Clearly he’s slipping.

  171. Salty Buggah says:

Mo says Fuck You ump! He probably just walked Laird for fun because it had been a while.

Too bad he’s not available for the next 2 games now as he has worked 3 days in a row now. Oh well, we got the sweep so Im okay. Besides, hopefully we blow them out so he wont be needed.

  172. Hova says:

Do you guys think Suzyn Waldman and Kim Jones hate each other? Haha. I always picture them competing for which guy to interview after the game.

Great game today. Only 1 game back of the hated Red Sux. Nice to see Joba win out in the pitchers duel.

  173. pat says:

It’s weird Tex smiled when Kim asked him about Joba, because everybody in the locker room hates Joba and is tired of his act.

/guy who only listens to wfan.

    • Zach says:

clubhouse wants him to go to Single-A to learn how to pitch, they were begging Cash to sign a veteran with winning experience like Pedro

  174. Ivan says:

Yankees best pitch series this season, just terrific pitching. The stuff that the guys like Hughes, Joba, CC and heck even Coke gets it up there in the mid 90′s, was just electric and overpowering.

Big game by Joba and the yanks win with a help from Roy Halladay are only down a game to the sox.

  175. Salty Buggah says:

Good Pitching in this series and both Tex and A-rod carried us in these 3 games getting the clutch HRs. SWEEP!

  176. Doug says:

    SWEEP~

You have to love winning those 2-1 pitcher’s duels.

    • Zach says:

      +1
and at the same time Detriot must be devasted losing 2 2-1 games against a team that cant beat first place clubs

  177. bonestock94 says:

Nice game, finally a televised one (for me) were Joba pitches well.

  178. Riddering says:

What an incredible game. After this weekend, I say we just make it a complete homestand sweep.

  179. handtius says:

i think the fearsome 3-4 is coming around to be just that. I don’t understand the Gardner in the 2 hole though.

    • Zach says:

      nitpick much?

      • handtius says:

actually, no I do not. I’m stating that our 3-4 is getting healthy and Gardner has no business batting between Jeter and Tex. He should be leading of or batting 9th.

    • pat says:

.280 with a discerning eye and ridiculous speed that can mess with a pitchers mindset against tex and arod? I’ll take that as a once in a while thing when subbing for damon.

      • Drew says:

As many pitches as Swish sees, I’d rather gardy than Swish in the 2 hole when JD needs a rest.

        • handtius says:

If Gardner is at the top of the order, I would swap him with Jete for that game. I’d rather have Jete driving in Gardner after he steels second then Gardner hit behind Jete.

  180. pat says:

I can see Joba really taking off for the 2nd half. Now that the finish line is in sight he might not be so timid with the fastball

  181. Drew says:

Missed most of the game today, I was busy catching a monster fluke.

I got to see Mo close it out at least. Man, I can’t (well, I guess I sorta can) believe that Al already has 19 HR’s. If him and Teix both get it going together, and if Al gets that average up, we are going to be on fire.

Great job by Jober today too. Any time his max FB is 97, today it was 96.9, he is a killer.

  182. mattb says:

    mattb Says:

Awfully encouraging. I think Joba did a lot of things well today–just a much better job of attacking and trusting his stuff. But boy, you can’t ignore the velocity jump. By my count, he threw 71 fastballs, and his average velocity comes out to pretty much exactly 93–now that’s very good for Joba this year, though it’s still off from where he was pre=Texas shoulder. But starting with his 50th fastball, boy, he turned it on. The distribution from that point on:

    92—1
    93—5
    94—5
    95—4
    96—3
    97—4

That’s an average velocity of 94.6, which is comparable to Joba the starter in 2008.

He also hit 95 and 96 twice each earlier in the game. Note there have been games this year where he his peak FB is 95.

Now maybe it was the extra rest–and frankly, I think that should be looked at. I know tjsc feels differently on this, and I don’t know how many opportunities to exist to do (and also whether doing so requires giving an unacceptable number of additional starts to guys like Mitre), but do you have to think about skipping him whenever the chance arises? Maybe it gives you a more effective Joba, and also conceivably one who could start a playoff game if the circumstances should so justify.

Don’t get me wrong–he needs to learn to be effective on normal rest. But I’d definitely be open to them trying to be a little creative here on out this year.

Also, in listenting to his postgame comments right now, makes me think even more this is something worth considering–he sounds like a totally different guy talking right now, and I think this is valid–for all he says it doesn’t matter, he can’t be unaffected by some of the issues surrounding his family right now, and it sounds like he really did need a break both mentally and physically.
