  1. Reggie C. says:

    It’ll happen.

  2. Dela G says:

man i totally was sayin how the offense won’t score much off this kid

however, let’s hope i will be proved wrong

  3. Drew says:

    Zach,
Anyway, I’m not even someone complaining about him. I was just arguing that with Jober, along with AJ who has a bad injury history that AP was signed to be more than a 5th starter. That’s where we disagree I guess. Nothing wrong with that.

  4. Mike C. says:

The offense has worked the count well and should get into scoring runs soon.

  5. JGS says:

let’s get some runs here, I don’t know how long Pettitte can keep up the Houdini act

  6. Drew says:

I know Swish is bored but, is he really filing his nails!?

  7. Brazilian Yankee says:

Hernandez is not that good, the offense needs to wake up.

  8. Salty Buggah says:

I hope we score soon. We have worked the count and hit the ball pretty well. Now we just a chain of hits.

  9. Yankee1010 says:

WTF offense? Which part is that surprising – not crushing a kid they should crush because it’s the 1st time they’ve seen him or Cano leaving the bases loaded when they could have opened up?

    • Drew says:

Why exactly should we crush him? Also, Cano had a good AB and hit the ball hard.

      • lily-bk says:

ye swung at boul 4 a couple of times, but thats just cano he’s agressive

      • Yankee1010 says:

Oh, sorry, I missed the “Hernandez is Walter Johnson” Memo.

        • Drew says:

The guy has been good in a SSS. On what planet does that mean “we should crush him.”

          • Yankee1010 says:

As of right now, including tonight’s game, he has a 1.47 WHIP and a 21/15 K/BB ratio in 38 IP. He has a career 1.56 WHIP. The Yanks have the best offense in the majors. How should that not be a recipe for success?

Again, I must have just missed the memo that we were going to have the privilege of seeing poetry in motion on the mound tonight.

  10. Jake H says:

I’m tired of the Yanks swinging at the first pitch. This guy has nothing but a fb. His control isnt’ good. Why not make him throw a ton of pitches?

  11. Mike Axisa says:

    Tex message time.

  12. Teix is the Man says:

    C’mon Tex

  13. Ivan says:

    Teix hit a homer.

  14. Salty Buggah says:

    Cmon Tex

  15. Salty Buggah says:

    Damnit Tex

  16. lily-bk says:

i hope they start scoring soon! andy hasn’t been that bad but who knows how much more he can take. it looks like everyone is trying to hit a homerun

  17. Dela G says:

well this kid had a great day

    5IP, 3H, 3BB, 4K, 1ER

good job young man, and now let your bullpen allow us to take this game over

  18. Mike Axisa says:

I wonder if Cla Meredith is available for the O’s is tonight.

  19. Evan says:

Thank you for the GIDP, Huff.

  20. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Fistpump that Huff.

  21. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Nice DP

  22. Riddering says:

    That was pretty sweet.

  23. Mike Axisa says:

Man, Giambi never turned a DP like that, yet Tex makes it look routine.

  24. Drew says:

Sick, AP set for the 7th at 87 pitches.

  25. Salty Buggah says:

    Nice Double Play fistpump!!!!!

Now Andy can pitch at least another inning…good little efficient 6 pitch inning

  26. Ivan says:

A-Rod will hit a homer in the bot of the 6th inning.

  27. Dela G says:

    alex, seriously?

  28. Dela G says:

    well we got outta that

  29. Jake H says:

This guy sucks and the Yanks can’t do anything.

  30. Evan says:

Why would you give up a lot for George Sherrill? That’d be the last guy you would give up much of worth.

    • Zach says:

under club control for cheap, good closer, killer on lefties.
wouldnt give up alot for him but he can get you a nice return

      • Evan says:

True. Forgot about the club control. That said, I don’t know if he’d fetch the most of the guys mentioned in the poll.

I guess I’m just being too picky.

        • Zach says:

no i agree, he wouldnt get more than roberts, scott, huff maybe because hes in his walk year. and forgot who else was on the list

  31. Reggie C. says:

Last 12 pitches … our lineup has recorded 5 outs.

  32. Salty Buggah says:

Cano is soooo overdue for a HR

  33. BigBlueAL says:

    This is getting pathetic now.

  34. Dela G says:

damn i thought he’d be gone by now (this pitcher)

  35. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Well, that was pathetic.

  36. Reggie C. says:

    Last 14 pitches … 6 outs …

  37. Riddering says:

Damn, I can’t believe we’re at the 7th inning already. Apparently the bats are still snoozing from the good pitching this weekend.

  38. Salty Buggah says:

Well that inning sucked too. Hopefully, he doesn’t return the next inning.

    • Bob Stone says:

He averages 109 pitches per start and he’s only at 101 pitches – so we might see him for one more inning.

  39. Drew says:

This game has the Melkster written all over it.

  40. Tom Zig says:

I love Cano and all, but he needs to stop swinging at every pitch.

  41. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Millwood making it look easy with that barehanded grab.

  42. How the fuck is it the 7th inning already?

  43. Pasqua says:

    Early dinner reservations?

    Hardy-har-har.

  44. Dela G says:

this has to be the shortest any game i’ve watched has felt in a while

  45. Ivan says:

For a billion dollar franchise, they can’t get a better radar gun.

  46. FWIW Medchill’s raking again, 2-2 with a double and RBI.

  47. CLT_JR says:

Question – off topic, but does anyone have the link to the latest release of porspect rankings? I am having an discussion with a Met fan that is trying to tell me that Montero was not ranked in the top 10?

  48. Dela G says:

that whistle sounds like the PC richards and sons whistle jingle

did they pay for that ?

  49. Ivan says:

    Good job Andy.

  50. Brazilian Yankee says:

That’s some nice pitching by Andy today. We better get him this win.

  51. Evan says:

I like vintage Pettitte: some Ks, ground ball DPs, and an occasional Houdini.

  52. Zach says:

i hate how Smoltz’ pants stop 3 inches before his shoes

    • Salty Buggah says:

He’s a team player so he’s saving the Sox money on clothing.

    • Bob Stone says:

He’s showing off his red socks. The idiots in the front office redesigned the road uniform to include Yankee blue socks (along with the Yankee blue lettering) until the fans and media screamed. Dumb move for a bunch of pretty smart guys.

  53. Dela G says:

damn, pettite could go 8 if we can get him a lead

  54. Salty Buggah says:

I hope this happens this inning:

    http://www.nomaas.org/images/melkymilk.jpg

  55. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Phil Hughes looks like he is having fun…

  56. Brazilian Yankee says:

Where the hell is our offense?

  57. Pasqua says:

Bring back the Old Timers — I want to see some scoring!

  58. JobaWockeeZ says:

Oh please for the love of Mo don’t let the offense get into another slump when the Yanks lost series to the Nats and Marlins.

    • Pasqua says:

I’m with you, but it looks like tonight’s offensive performance is more like sleepwalking than slumping.

  59. Ivan says:

    This game is bboring.

  60. Reggie C. says:

Via CNNSI (jon heyman: Toronto’s request of the Mets for star pitcher Roy Halladay was for top outfield prospect Fernando Martinez, young pitchers Bobby Parnell and Jon Niese and shortstop prospect Ruben Tejada, sources tell SI.com.

  61. pat says:

Guys it’s not like you can just import new arms. You can’t just wave a magic wand and three new guys appear.

  62. Ivan says:

    Andy giving the yanks length

  63. Ivan says:

Wow Mo takes his time writing his signature for the fans. What a guy.

  64. Riddering says:

The top of the order needs to get some runs in this inning or, so help me, I will pitch a verbal tantrum on the internet!

    Fear me, Yankee offense!

  65. After that series with Detroit the offense has forgotten that it’s ok to score more than two runs a game…

Justin Verlander, the Oriole bullpen is not.

  66. Cokie says:

Ahh, there’s my boy warming up.

  67. NO Halladay says:

    C’mon double play ball

  68. Ivan says:

    Wow Hinskie.

  69. Drew says:

    Wow, Hinske played that great.

  70. Salty Buggah says:

    Oh boy…

  71. Evan says:

Oh crikes, we have a jam.

  72. Pasqua says:

Izturis will be appearing in Kangaroo Court tomorrow, methinks.

  73. Dela G says:

    oh man that really sucked

  74. Brazilian Yankee says:

Pitching change came one batter too late.

  75. Ivan says:

    Lets go Coke.

  76. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Nice freaking play Mark!

  77. TurnTwo says:

    pure awesomeness.

  78. Mike Axisa says:

    Dead Texy. What a pimp.

Nice job by Hava Molina too.

  79. Zach says:

i love tex more and more every day

  80. Pasqua says:

Oh, Tex, thank you for reminding us what defense at 1B looks like!

  81. Ivan says:

    I love this fucking guy.

  82. Riddering says:

    DAYUM DEFENSE.

  83. Jackson says:

    Teixeira is so money.

  84. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

If Giambi was there he would have tagged first and let the run score.

  85. Mike Axisa says:

Why not walk Jones to get to Huff?

  86. Zach says:

    OUT!!!!

  87. Jake says:

    A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

  88. Pasqua says:

    TOTALLY planned it that way!

  89. mustang says:

  90. Zach says:

  91. HOLY FUCKING CHRIST CAN WE SCORE SOME RUNS NOW?!?!

  92. Dela G says:

    I LOVE YOU MARK T

    YOU ARE A GENIUS!

  93. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Damn nice play.

  94. Yankee1010 says:

Wow. Amazing plays by both Teixeira and Molina.

  95. Andy Stankiewicz says:

    Molina !!!!!
    Coke !!!!!!
    What a play !!!!!!!!

  96. ARX says:

*jaw on the floor in shock…*

  97. Ivan says:

    Wow that was exciting.

  98. Brazilian Yankee says:

He missed the plate! Nice escape boys. Time to win this one.

  99. BklynJT says:

    fukin molina is gangsta

  100. pat says:

PHIl COKE- GET OFF MY PLATE!!!!!!

  101. VO says:

    HELL YES!

  102. Mike Axisa says:

There’s no way they don’t win this game now.

  103. Randy A. says:

Wow. Thats all I can say.

  104. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

2 great plays in 1 inning.

  105. e mills says:

  106. Yankees_Universe says:

  108. Salty Buggah says:

HEHE I eas just thinking about Roberts possible trying to steal home.

  109. Dela G says:

    WOW!!!

I LOVE THE YANKEES DEFENSE THIS SEASON!!!

  110. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Score here, bring in Mo, celebrate by finishing the beer in my cooler.

  111. V says:

I can’t brain today. I have the dumb.

  112. Stryker says:

    holy fucking defense!

  113. pat says:

I think Coke has thrown three pitches the past 2 days and recorded three outs.

  114. Evan says:

    Those last two plays: orgasmic.

  115. Jordan says:

I wish fangraphs could figure out the probability of those last two plays happening in the same half of the season, much less back to back outs.

  116. Zach says:

i like posada, but i also feel like he wouldnt have made either of thoes plays

    • Andy Stankiewicz says:

You would be correct. I love him too but he would not be able to make those plays. On the flip side, Jorge may have hot a 2 run bomb bit thats another story.

  117. NO Halladay says:

New thread please, my computer is frying each time downloading 170 messages

  118. Pasqua says:

By the way, why are we all getting so excited about the calls at the plate? I mean…the ball did beat the runner in both cases. That’s an automatic out.

    What?

    Oh.

  119. Mike Axisa says:

They really need to turn down the mic on Tex. That’s like the 10th time we’ve heard him yell something out after popping up since the break.

  120. BigBlueAL says:

Forget a run, just get a freakin guy on base.

  121. NO Halladay says:

Tonight is another example of why we don’t need Halladay, but will tomorrow be another reason??? Mitre??

  122. LiveFromNewYork says:

I have to travel tomorrow and wanted to be in bed by 10. What are my chances? Walk off in the 9th please. No extra innings!

  123. LiveFromNewYork says:

OH COMON. That did not hit him.

  124. Cokie says:

    No way that hit him!

  125. NO Halladay says:

    Arod goes deep

  126. Salty Buggah says:

    Cmon Cokie…no runs here

  127. Pasqua says:

    “Please, win this game, Baltimore.”

“No, no, I insist New York, YOU win the game.”

“Don’t be silly, old chap. I’d have it no other way. You win it.”

“I’ll have no more of your ballyhoo, New York. Now take this game and be on your way.”

    “I wouldn’t dream of it, Baltimore…”

    [I'm suddenly bored again]

  128. Riddering says:

I love it when I can hear the player curse over poor contact.

Of course, I love runs more.

  129. NO Halladay says:

    double play ball coming………….

  130. NO Halladay says:

Wow Fred Lynn out there in center

  131. Evan says:

That line drive scared me. Good thing it hung up just enough.

  132. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Nice catch by Melky

  133. Ivan says:

    Nice catch Melky

  134. Drew says:

    The Melkman playin some D

  135. LiveFromNewYork says:

Melky says no one is taking my walkoff away MFer!

  136. Arman Tamzarian says:

Quieten Richardson was traded for the third time this off season, is that a record? It has to at least tie some sort of record?

  137. pat says:

Ugh a good throw and he’s out

  138. Dela G says:

    cmon…. its luke freaking scott

  139. LiveFromNewYork says:

    OH BALLS!

  140. NO Halladay says:

Who cares about Army vs. ND ????

  141. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Comon Ace bear down

  142. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Lets go boyzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  143. NO Halladay says:

OOOOOOOOOOOO looked like he drilled it better than he did

  144. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

That scared me for a second.

  145. Drew says:

    Mexi G FTW.
    Big Al time.

  146. Manimal says:

I like our 3 man bullpen.

  147. Cokie says:

I feel like I could score with Jessica Simpson on a rebound before the yankees score in this game.

  148. NO Halladay says:

AROD is due for a walkoff

  149. Salty Buggah says:

OK we got out of that…now please end the game someone and get pied in the face!

  150. The Ghost of Prospects Past says:

    Rod. Homer. Please.

  151. Dela G says:

    lol at people booing a-rod

    morons

  152. Mike Axisa says:

Bah, that was ticketed for CF until it hit the mound.

  153. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I left the room for a second and heard “walkoff, walkoff, walkoff” I was like fuckkkkk.

Then I realized that was a previous game.

  154. Salty Buggah says:

I’d love a cheapie for us right now…

  155. Evan says:

Damn, thought that would squeak up the middle.

  156. Manimal says:

Was that a shift to a righty? wtf…

  157. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    LOL!??!?!?!?

  158. Manimal says:

Matsui almost stabbed himself with that swing

  159. NO Halladay says:

No offense these days, we need metal bats

  160. LiveFromNewYork says:

What ever happened to Brian Bruney?

  161. Zach says:

    fuck yes!

  162. Jake says:

    He’s done.

  171. Pasqua says:

Do you see what happens when you give Hideki a pre-broken bat?! Do you?!

  172. BklynJT says:

    I just creamed my pants.

  173. Evan says:

  174. pat says:

    AAAAnd hideki broke RAB

  175. A THRILLA FROM GODZILLA

    HOLY FUCK

    NINE WALK OFF WINS

    I LOVE THIS FUCKING TEAM

  176. Mike Axisa says:

My word, Cash is such a fool for not trading Matsui when he had the chance.

  177. Manimal says:

    GODZILLAAAA!

  178. Salty Buggah says:

    MATSUI!

  179. ARX says:

    GODZILLA!!!!!!!!

  180. Riddering says:

    AN A-BOMB FROM HIDEKI.

    HELL YEAH.

  181. Randy A. says:

    MMAAAATTTSSSUUURRRRRIIIIIIII!!!!!

  182. LiveFromNewYork says:

The Japanese press are probably freaking out about now. They love their Hideki.

  183. Statler says:

    HIDEKI.

    No, not you Irabu.

  184. Cokie says:

Dude huh huh I think we just like, uh, scored.

  185. V says:

How many Yankees have walkoffs this year?

  186. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    BOMBS!

  187. Ivan says:

    MATSUI CRUSHES ONE!!!

  188. Zach says:

95 mph- but matsui cant hit over 93!!

  189. pat says:

Matsui is usually on the other end of cream to the face.

  190. Dela G says:

‘Matsui is wiping the cream off his face”

    oh boy

  191. Manimal says:

Best pie in the face yet.

  192. Pasqua says:

Oh, how I wanted to see Matsui’s translator get the pie in the face! I’ll settle for the win, though.

  193. Steve H says:

    11 runs in 4 games and they’re 4-0.

Imagine if they had the Sox pitching!!!

While I obviously want the hitting to get back on track, it’s great to see pitching carrying this team, because we all know what wins in the playoffs.

  194. JobaWockeeZ says:

    BRING UP SHELLEY!!!!

  195. LiveFromNewYork says:

And I make it to bed by 10. I thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee fan.

  196. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Burnett, you sneaky s.o.a.b!!!

  197. Ivan says:

3RD consecutive 2-1 win and back to back win where both runs were solo shots.

    • Little Bill says:

Against Verlander one of the runs came off of Cabrera’s infield single. I believe the other 5 runs came off solo shots though.

  198. Manimal says:

    Defense and pitching wins games

  199. Drew says:

The helmet toss is so sick.

  200. Manimal says:

Offense better wake up tomorrow with Mitre pitching

  201. pat says:

This is probably easy to find out but I doubt we had many 2-1 wins last season. Definitely not three in a row.

  202. GoGo Platter says:

This may be a ballsy statement, but I think this is the most enjoyable to watch team of this decade, thus far.

    • Dela G says:

they remind me of the 2007 red sox

they are having fun, and clutch in the later innings

this team is very fun to watch

    • Pasqua says:

The ’05 and ’07 teams that came back from the dead were fun, too. But after 9 wins likes this, how can you argue?

      • GoGo Platter says:

I think it’s also just the feel and atmosphere around the team. They’ve got the homeruns, the speed, the fielding, and they’ve shown a lot of great character on and off the field. With it being the beginning of a new era with the new Yankee Stadium, it’s starting to eerily feel like the makings of one of those blessed Yankee seasons.

  203. Pasqua says:

You know, I’ll say this: for as frustrating as the series against Boston, Florida and Anaheim have been, this season has had just a ridiculous amount of awesome, fun moments. And, really, when it comes to sports, isn’t that all you can ask for?

  204. TurnTwo says:

it’s too bad the yankees are a team who depend too much on the HR, or else they could win more of these close games…

    … oh, wait, what?

  205. Manimal says:

Michael Young HR ties the Sox game. We could be tied for first tonight.

  206. Arman Tamzarian says:

    Annnd were tied in Texas!

  207. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    MICHAEL YOUNG IS ON FIRE

Single, Double and GAME TYING HOME RUN!!!

  208. Mike says:

Melky and ARod looked like they were trying to catch a wedding bouquet when Matsui threw his helmet.

  209. handtius says:

So glad we DFA’d Matsui….wait, what?

  210. Welcome to Texas John Smoltz. Young HR to tie the game followed by a Hamilton double.

  211. Zach says:

    blalock rbi single

  212. Manimal says:

    3-2 texas.

  213. Arman Tamzarian says:

    3-2 Texas!!!

  214. Drew says:

    GO TEXAS!

  215. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    RANGERS LEADING! 3-2

  216. Dela G says:

    LETS GO RANGERS!

    CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP!!

  217. Zach says:

BBTN says Izturis “lost the ball” on Roberts double. give 0 credit to Cano for deeking him out

  218. Nady Nation says:

These walkoffs, and even just all the close games in general, have been awesome. Starting to feel like a special season.

  219. Zach says:

former red sox great david murphy pays them back with 2 run HR

  220. Manimal says:

    5-2 texas!

  221. Dela G says:

    5-2 RANGERS!!

DAVID MURPHY WITH THE 2 RUN BLAST!

  222. Arman Tamzarian says:

    5-2 Texas!!!!

  223. Zach says:

    another HR!

  224. Arman Tamzarian says:

    6-2 Texas!!!!

  229. Accent Shallow says:

Caught this one in my car — took Sterling a little while to realize what had happened:

“Swung on . . . “”DRILLED TO DEEP RIGHT! THAT BALL IS HIGH . . .” etc etc

    Very odd.

  230. Zach says:

  236. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I wonder what kind of remark John Henry has about this. I said Smoltz was a tool, despite being as good as he is (was). However, John Henry is the biggest tool in Boston.

    • NYTraveller says:

I started to get the feeling the world was going back on its correct axis when that tool started talking trash about Tex. It’s time for them to remember they’re the Red Sox after all.

  237. Zach says:

BBTN does a recap of TB/CHW and fail to mention anything baout Price going 6 IP 4 ER

  238. montero go-ahead jack for Trenton in the 10th…

  239. That Teixeira trade looks better and better for Texas everyday.

  240. The Fallen Phoenix says:

I enjoy this team immensely. I hope it gets Matsui the ring it could never get Moose.

  241. V says:

Smoltz ain’t a starter anymore. I think he can still relieve though.

  242. Steve H says:

    Bill Simmons:

“Gee, I can’t believe John Smoltz’s start went badly. Thought for sure a 42 yr-old NL starter would kick ass in mid-July Texas.”

  243. Did you know that if you take the innings where Smoltz has given up runs out of consideraation he has an ERA 0.00? That’s a HOFer!

  244. “I decided it was good I didn’t spike that ball…I got that closing speed” Phil Coke, ladies and gentlemen.

  245. pat says:

Welcome to the fuckin AL Smoltzie.

  246. V says:

Man, I am tired of the Boston slobber jobs. MLB Network (Harold Reynolds): “Boston is the only team that has a bullpen where that (Smoltz going only 5 innings) could work, with guys who can go multiple innings of shut down ball.”

Every time Hideki Matsui steps to home plate, I can’t help but ask myself, “HOW could the New York Yankees now have retired Spud Murray’s uniform number?”

  249. Drew says:

Michael Young with a sick catch hanging over the dugout fence.

  250. Zach says:

Kruk just claimed that Tex was always known as a “stat” guy- just worried about his numbers- but now that he got what he want, long term contract and money, he’s more of a team player.

    What. The. Fuck?

  251. handtius says:
