Game 95 Spillover Thread II with Wang update

By Benjamin Kabak

As the Yanks and the A’s play late into the night, the Yankees have issued an update on injured right-hander Chien-Ming Wang. The erstwhile ace was scheduled to throw tomorrow, but his shoulder has not improved since he shut it down earlier this week. And so the Yanks and Wang will now consult with Dr. James Andrews.

To be clear, Wang isn’t getting checked out by Andrews. He was seen by Dr. David Altchek earlier today, but the Yanks want to consult with Andrews before releasing the results and establishing a rehab plan for Wang. The worst-case scenario is, of course, surgery which would probably knock Wang out for most, if not all, of 2010. It’s amazing to see the cascade effect of one Lisfranc injury and some obviously bad mechanics from Wang.

Anyway, the game continues as the Yanks have put up a four-spot in the fourth. We’ll have more on Wang tomorrow morning.

JGS says:

ok, I totally called 4 runs last inning

Dela G says:
Jose says:

Yeah, and uh so did I…

Dela G says:

now CC, you got your run support, make this shit happen

DO WORK

Accent Shallow says:

That’s certainly bad news. Lack of a healthy Wang puts lots of pressure on Joba/Hughes to step up, or they’ll have to bring back Pettitte/acquire someone else.

Arman Tamzarian says:

Man, that depth disappeared quickly

Accent Shallow says:

Depth always does. Unfortunately, here I’m talking about the 2010 rotation. CC/AJ/Joba/Hughes/some other guy has massive upside potential, but it could also get ugly. A healthy Wang in there makes it much, much stronger.

Mike Pop says:

Healthy Wangs always do.

Who’s 5 now? Nova, Z-Mac, the Duke, a trade for another pitcher?

Sucks, if he was 07/08 Wang, this team could be so much, much better!

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Boston’s depth is deep they have, and generate more of, an unlimited supply of cy young worthy arms.

The Yankees are mailing this one in.

This game was over at 8PM.

Oh Boy, Mike you’ll never live this down. You’re a part of new RAB meme.

hey salty, are you wearing any pants?

Kevin G. says:

Why, was that comment “uninspiring”?

if Wang needs surgery do they non-tender him?

No no no no no no no no no no

Come on CC….I can think of 161 million reasons why you should be pitching better!

OK, CC 3 runs is already enough…do not give up any more runs and shut em down for 3 more please.

Has anyone noticed that if you search RAB on Google that on the first page of results is “Retarded Animal Babies”, but “River Avenue Blues” is nowhere to be found?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Whatever happened to IPK? Didn’t he come back from his surgery? Boy it’d be nice to see him back.

Mike Pop says:

Him and his 91 MPH fastballs? Please, bust.

Steve H says:

Wrong. Hughes had the 91 mph fastballs. I don’t even think IPK cracks 88 (he couldn’t even get the Delorean going)

JobaWockeeZ says:

Lol, well FWIW the most recent thing I found is that he was rehabbing in Scranton but…that was June 22.

leokitty says:

Aneurysm recovery takes a while, he’ll not see the majors this year but will def be in winter ball.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Manimal says:

Surgery on the circulatory system takes a while to recover from.

We had an IPK update earlier this week. He’s throwing off of flat ground but won’t be ready to rejoin the Big League club at all this year. He’ll be in the mix next year after he throws in Winter Ball.

Rich D. says:

IPK reminds me of a younger, less effective Mike Mussina. Doesn’t throw all that fast and relies on hitting spots and corners.

Accent Shallow says:

He hasn’t looked that good in his short stints up here, but he absolutely obliterated the minors. That has to be a little more than hitting spots, no?

Steve O. says:

Mike Mussina was actually quite the fireballer in his prime.

Zach says:

http://community.thetimes-trib.....ontos.aspx

‘The last I heard about Ian came from Newsday a couple of days ago. Brian Cashman told Newsday that Kennedy is on schedule — maybe even ahead — and could begin pitching in minor league games before the end of the season. He seems fairly certain to pitch in winter ball, which makes good sense.”

GG says:

Get Halladay, minimize the damage by taking Wells, it would be doing a huge favor for them by eating that contract as only the Yankees can

Mike Pop says:
Arman Tamzarian says:

Wells is god awful and has an unreal amount of money left on his contract

Ivan says:

Think about this, his performance is similar than Tony Womack. Yes Tony Womack.

Jose says:

He makes Barry Zito look like he is under a cost controlled and team-friendly contract.

GG says:

haahahaaa I dont know if I’d go that far, but yea they are probably the two ugliest contracts in the game

Wells:

2010:$12.5M
2011:$23M
2012:$21M
2013:$21M
2014:$21M
TOTAL 2010-2014 COMMITMENT: $98.5M

Zito:

2010:$18.5M
2011:$18.5M
2012:$19M
2013:$20M
2014:$18M club option ($7M buyout)
TOTAL 2010-2014 COMMITMENT: $83M (assuming club exercises 2014 buyout)

leokitty says:

dude not even the yankees can eat wells’ contract. this line needs to die, he’s signed through 2014.

pat says:

98.5 MILLION DOLLARS 2010-2014

Ivan says:

Manimal says:

We would literally have to give them the whole team in Scranton AND Trenton

VO says:

Can’t we just give them the Pirates?

Ivan says:

Even if the yanks wanted to absorbed Wells contract (which they wouldn’t) the jays want top flight talent for Halladay period.

The Jays rather be stuck with Wells and get back top flight young players rather than release Wells contract to somebody else for players of not of high caliber or potential.

Taking on Wells maximizes the damage.

EB says:

What if Toronto chip in $30M of the $90-100M remaining?

His career OPS+ is = to Torii Hunter who at an older age got 5/90

GG says:

not in terms of prospects, if they understand what the Yanks would be doing for them….thats kinda what put me on this tangent to begin with, getting rid of that contract should be the biggest concern they have, and they should be using Doc to do it, because there is no other foreseeable way they unload wells. It wouldnt be my money…

EB says:

I agree here… if Cash can get Halladay and Wells without losing Montero, Joba, Hughes and even Ajax you’d be negligent not to look at it.

Financially, you could get Toronto to take on 6M per year 10-14. He is only owed peanuts this year…

Of course this would constrain further moves in the offseason but with Halladay-CC-AJ in the postseason 2 rings can happen

This is not hyperbole: Attaching Wells to Halladay deal in which the receiving team gives up a lot of prospects makes the deal a very bad one for the team getting Halladay.

Wells has far too many years and too much money left. He’s not a throw-in a la Mike Lowell in the Beckett deal. He’s a real albatross, and Ricciardi isn’t going to be able to package the two together and still get anything back for Halladay.

EB says:

You’re absolutely correct. But owing Wells $20M per over the next 5 is killing the Blue Jays and that need may trump the need for prospects. That’s the dilemma

“This is not hyperbole: Attaching Wells to Halladay deal in which the receiving team gives up a lot of prospects makes the deal a very bad one for the team getting Halladay.”

Co-sign.

TurnTwo says:

this is now a game where CC has to take control.

Salty Buggah says:

I thought the A’s don’t steal? Thats 2 tonight already

Davis should be out, the throw beat him to the bag!

Salty Buggah says:

See now thats complete bullshit. The 1st 2 balls to Hairstson were strikes that were given to Mazzaro and the 1st one completely in the zone!

Salty Buggah says:

Thank god CC still got out of it.

Mike Pop says:

Thank god Mo CC still got out of it.

Salty Buggah says:

Oh yea my bad. I will now punish myself and ask for forgiveness and watch this game all over.

I couldnt find the one in which AJ blew that big lead…so painful just thinking about it.

Mike Pop says:

Ugh, that A.J. start killed me.

Me. Too.

But thanks to the good Mo, I’ve recovered mostly.

Accent Shallow says:

Hairston, you mad?

bonestock94 says:

What a catastrophic year for Wang. All from running the bases in what is essentially a novelty game.

Rich D. says:

THIS IS THE REASON I HATE INTER-LEAGUE PLAY!

Mike Pop says:

Spoken like a true fan, who’s Wang was broken during inter-league play.

Kevin G. says:

Fernando Nieve got hurt wen he tried to leg-ot an infield single for the Mets, so it’s not just interleague play.

Mike Pop says:

You’re right. National League play.

TurnTwo says:

yeah… thanks, douche selig.

Ivan says:

I would like to see Hughes pitch 2 innings tonight…….well at least for my B-Day.

Ivan says:

Which Contract is worst, Wells or Helton couple years back?

Dela G says:

are you kidding? helton has been incredible

wells looks like a a slick fielding david ortiz

Manimal says:

Everyone does incredible in Colorado.

Latroy Hawkins’d

Hitters do well in Colorado, but pitchers? No. Hawkins was an anomoly.

Mike Pop says:

Right… Argh. So, Hawkins and Marquis.

Although a good half-season for Marquis and 1 good season for Hawkins doesn’t really mean much.

Wells, easy. He never really hit except for one or two years, and his defense has deteriorated immensely.

Helton is still a Gold Glover at first, and he’s OPS’d below .880 just once in the last twelve years, and that was last year when he was hurt.

Arman Tamzarian says:

Wells, hasn’t Helton been pretty productive overall?

Salty Buggah says:

Wells. At least Helton is hitting .325 or something with .420 OBP or something like that.

Zach says:

Helton gets too much hate. OBP still over .400, still has double power, not the 30hr power anymore but still can get 20

Just hit his 500th career double last night. Third fastest to that mark in history. He’s one of 7-8 players with at least 300 HR, 500 2B and a .320 AVG.

Mike Pop says:

His 2000 season was just ridiculous.

103 XBH and 405 total bases. Coors or not, that’s stupid good.

Jose says:

Guys like Ruth, Williams and Musial.

TurnTwo says:

interesting HoF case.

He’s one of only two players with 100+ XBH in a season twice. Gehrig is the other.

Zach says:

agreed, althoug his home/away splits arent too great, he plays 81 games at coors so if he was anywhere else with that contract it probably would be considered much worse.

Accent Shallow says:

See, I really don’t know how to rate him. He’s obviously a good hitter, but I’m not quite comfortable putting him in elite company because he’s compiled those numbers in Coors Field.

(Side note: his Baseball Reference sponsorship states that he’s “the greatest hitter of our generation.” Sure guys, maybe if you’ve never heard of park effects.)

His league neutralized career line is .301-.401-.528.

Jack says:

Sure guys, maybe if you’ve never heard of park effects.

Or Albert Pujols.

Accent Shallow says:

Or Frank Thomas. Or A-Rod. Or Manny Ramirez. Or . . .

Jose says:

Wells. Helton’s deal isn’t horrible for the production he has given. His deal is kind of like Jeter’s. You are overpaying not only for production but also for him to be your franchise player.

Helton has been worth $117.7 million since 2002, while only being payed $106.2 million by the end of this year since 2002. The Rockies have gotten their value over the years.

Accent Shallow says:

Back to dirty Jerz, you schlub.

pollo says:

Yes, and take Vito, Don, Mikey and the rest of the Jersey Shore with you.

That’s what they do.

handtius says:

I guess Tex is a heatin’ up.

Salty Buggah says:

Boo-ya bitches…

Cmon A-rod…at least a sac-fly.

Steve H says:

He pulled a Swisher. Intentionally made an out so that he could let his teammates have some glory. Only Swisher can take the selfishness out of A-Rod

Mike Pop says:

Kevin G. says:

BOOOOOO!!! BOOOOOOOOOO!!!

i love how we got tex

those last 2 strikes were so inside on gameday…complete bullshit!

can this damn stop giving that inside call please?!

Steve H says:

I know Cano is getting crushed for his struggles with RISP this year. Now, if I had told you in March that thru July 23rd Robbie would be sporting a .310/.343/.493 line with a 117 OPS+ and 14 HR’s while playing a very solid 2b, wouldn’t we all have stood in line to sign up for that?

No whammies, Cano.

Cano is sooo due..
I think he gets a big hit here.

Rockdog says:

Does popping out to catcher count?

Salty Buggah says:

Mike Pop says:

Salty Buggah says:

unfortunately nope.

Dela G says:

Dela G says:

man i loved getting a crowd like that at my basketball games, must be awesome to get that at yankee stadium

Yankee1010 says:

You’re a peach, Cano. Take a pitch? Nah, why. Let’s swing at one in on the hands off the plate.

Accent Shallow says:

He’s so damn frustrating. He could learn a thing or three from his double play partner.

Then again, how many players are going to be Jeter?

Ivan says:

That’s a sorry ass AB Cano.

Yankee1010 says:

It’s also an eminently familiar one.

JGS says:

well, that was sucky

Salty Buggah says:

OK, now I think it’s official. Cano is horrible with RISP. I’ve been on his side supporting him when he didn’t come through. But he really does struggle in those spots. It’s not variation now.

Zach says:

‘06 RISP: .306
‘07 RISP: .290
‘08 RISP: .263
‘09 RISP: .209

maybe this year is just a variation?

Salty Buggah says:

makes sense. Didnt even think about the different years, how stupid of me. But Im talking about this year, he definitely hasnt had good ABs this year with RISP.

Zach says:

he has sucked with RISP this year. he also was bad in the first half last year so dont know the split on his RISP from last year.

Yankee1010 says:

I’m not going to go through all of the numbers now, but his numbers with runners on, RISP, RISP w/ 2 outs and the bases loaded are all significantly worse than his overall numbers each year. If you compare those numbers to his numbers with nobody on, the difference is even more stark.

Plus, I’m not one for going solely on what I see, but it can’t be debated that Cano looks completely different in those situations, i.e. he goes up flailing at everything. And that doesn’t just go for this year.

Yankee1010 says:

Here are the numbers:

2009 Overall: .311/.343/.492
2009 RISP: .209/.244/.313
2009 Bases Loaded: .235/.250/.235
2009 RISP w/ 2 outs: .194/.237/.292

Note: Cano’s numbers with the bases loaded were worse before he made that last out tonight per ESPN’s splits, but after he made the out, he got credited for a hit. So it is likely that his bases loaded numbers are actually .178/.222/.178

2008 Overall: .271/.305/.410
2008 RISP: .263/.294/.359
2008 Bases Loaded: .286/.292/.381
2008 RISP w/ 2 outs: .295/.313/.410

2007 Overall: .306/.353/.488
2007 RISP: .290/.333/.441
2007 Bases Loaded: .250/.278/.313
2007 RISP w/ 2 outs: .250/.310/.463

2006 Overall: .342/.365/.525
2006 RISP: .306/.335/.500
2006 Bases Loaded: .300/.318/.450
2006 RISP w/ 2 outs: .259/.302/.469

2005 Overall: .297/.320/.458
2005 RISP: .210/.241/.363
2005 Bases Loaded: .150/.143/.300
2005 RISP w/ 2 outs: .207/.233/.310

Zach says:

ok, so 2005 he struggled as a rookie, last year he had a horrible first half so im guessing his numbers are affected by that, and this year is horrible yes.

hes bad with bases loaded, also only has 95 ABs with bases loaded, give him 5 more hits with bases loaded and his career BA with bases loaded is .297

Yankee1010 says:

Are you looking at different numbers and not seeing that his numbers in these situations are significantly worse over his career than his overall numbers for those years? That means that his numbers with nobody on are even better than his overall numbers.

I don’t know what else you want to see. I like Cano, but it’s impossible to say that he doesn’t have issues in these situations.

Zach says:

I see the numbers, where did i say he didnt have issues with risp? I also dont expect every hitter to hit .350 with RISP

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Yankee1010 says:

I see a whole lot of excuses and “ifs.” If the Queen had balls, she’d be the King. And if a few more balls dropped in with nobody on, those numbers would be better too.

Just look at the OBPs up there. He’s allergic to walking in those situations because he’s hacking like there’s no tomorrow.

Zach says:

its not excuses, when you have a sample size with bases loaded where just 5 hits can add 50 points to your average i dont get all worked up over it

Jake K. says:

Well, all four of those years his overall BA was higher than with RISP.

You can’t like the way those numbers are trending.

Zach says:

i need the splits for last years because he was bad the first half so that has to have an affect on his numbers

V says:

Ok, Cano, next time you come up with the bases loaded, just take EVERY SINGLE PITCH. It’d be better than watching you flail away at shit.

Riddering says:

BLOWOUT. BLOWOUT. BLOWOUT.

Riddering says:

Ivan says:

Speaking of heckling, there should be a book on “the art of heckling”.

That would be pretty cool.

Salty Buggah says:

Should have gotten at least one more there but oh well.

OK CC, nail em down!

VO says:

I love that Francessa commercial. “If I don’t say it noone will.” Maybe that’s because noone should say it because it makes no sense at all.

Jose says:

I once played a drinking game with friends, we all took a drink at each Cano swing out of the zone. Long story short, I woke up with no pants on in South Beach with legal documents saying I’m married to a goat.

Mike Pop says:
Lanny says:

Pot calling kettle black….

Mike Pop says:

Heh, somebody’s gotta do it.

Jose says:

Wow. Sure give it only 30 seconds on the page and post that link instantly. haha

The scary part is we have been married for 2 years now and she still yells at me when I call her a goat.

Mike Pop says:

All in good fun and jokes.

Jose says:

Nah I got you. I lose my touch as it gets later.

Ivan says:

Salty Buggah says:

Look at the positives in Cano…didnt GIDP so…PROGRESS!

Mike Pop says:

WHERE’S THE RANGE ALEX!

Zach says:

hes a first baseman playing third
/olney

Kevin G. says:

He’s a glorified DH

/even more Onley’d

Dela G says:

alright CC lets turn it around and shut em down

pat says:

Arod clearly wanted to prevent jeter from making a glorious stop and jump throw to 1st.
Wat a dick.

Ivan says:

I guess shit does even out. Cano showed range and help CC. While A-Rod showed none and didn’t help CC. Interesting.

Manimal says:

Who wouldve thought 10 years ago we would be saying “Nomar hits a groundball between Jeter and Arod”

Zach says:

who would have thought out of those 3 Jeter would be the last one playing SS?

Bob Stone says:

Steve H says:

Likely the only one who didn’t juice and didn’t have the body type change the other 2 did. But your right, not that we saw that coming.

gxpanos says:

Nomar the FIRST BASEMAN hits a groundball between Jeter and ARod.

Lanny says:

Cano should be hitting 9th. Hes a black hole with runners on.

handtius says:

You shouldn’t be allowed on blogs. You’re a black hole with comments.

Esteban says:

there would still be runners on…

Jake K. says:

Let me preface this by saying that I know Robbie is one of the better 2B in the league and we are better off with on the team. That said, he drives me absolutely fucking bonkers! He is the most aggravating Yankee in recent memory. With just a little bit better approach he could get so much more out of his talent.

Dela G says:

what the hell are green mountain coffee k cups?

Bob Stone says:

K cups are for use in the Keurig single cup instant coffee brewing machine

Mike Pop says:

Kenny Singleton should of said “no homo” after he said “I like it when you think pitching”.

Ivan says:

The way Cone should of said “no homo” with Kennedy and getting “jerked off” lol.

Salty Buggah says:

that would be funny

pat says:

Haha Singy just professed his love for Leiter a little bit…”I love when you talk pitching”

ShuutoHeat says:

it’s what happens when you spend time in the booth with people…

Riddering says:

I’m starting to think of Cano’s AB w/RISP as though he’s a catcher. “Well, at least we have his defense!”

Lanny says:

Not a bad call there.

Salty Buggah says:

Yea but the greedy me would’ve wanted a little higher AVG or OBP but yes that is good.

Steve H says:

His OBP is lower than JD Drew’s, but we both (all) know who is having the much better season.

Jake K. says:

Sure. He’s obviously a good player and a key contributor. But, fair or not, it so often seems that he could be *more* of a contributor if he wasn’t Johnny Hacks-a-Lot. Especially with men on base.

Ivan says:

Wow Tony Pena leads the AL in K’s win 120. Didn’t know that.

Ivan says:
Dela G says:

i was going to say.. tony pena’s back in baseball?

Not surprised, he’s prone to the whiff.

pat says:

Heh, thanks joe morgan. A guy who’s prone to the whiff is leading the league in K’s

/I keed I keed

//hopes he’s not banned

///has always liked mike the best.

Lanny says:

If the worst problem we got is our #7 hitter being terrible with RISP we have to accept it and roll with it.

Jose says:

Is that truly the worst problem with this team though?

Mike Pop says:

Well, see, I don’t think that’s their worst problem. Their worst problem is the pitching depth.

I’d just like to note for the record that you just gave a pessimistic response to an optimistic Lanny comment.

I’m not quite sure how to react to this. My mind is blown.

Manimal says:

93% Dont know who Montero is.

Salty Buggah says:

Wow! Lot of ignorant people out there need guidance…We need missionaries.

gxpanos says:

I just don’t get Cano. Is it super difficult to get a better approach? His ability to make contact is great, fantastic, wonderful–but he should only bust it out with two strikes. He just needs some damn patience.

Furthermore, it seems like it’s in his head, and that’s when adjustments mean nothing. He’s just got to get lucky a few times and start on his way back, I guess. Frustrating, because there’s a .330 hitter in there.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Really? Jesus and AJax were tied for last? Do the majority of Yankee fans even know who they are?

Jose says:

I think I know who Jesus was. Guy who used to do stuff with water and wine? Wasn’t Ajax a cleaning solution popular a few years back?

JobaWockeeZ says:

Never heard of him. I heard a guy DeJesus, does that count?
And I’m pretty sure AJax is short for a jacks when someone hits a HR.

Actually being in last is okay but seriously 7 percent? Really?

Jose says:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_%28missionary%29

Ajax was a missionary who converted people. It all makes sense now, that’s why he and Jesus are the future of the Yankees.

Zach says:

1. no they dont
2. its process of elimination
3. someone has to be last

Kevin G. says:

Perfect World:

1. Joba Chamberlain: 25%
2. Phil Hughes: 25%
3. Jesus Montero: 25%
4. Austin Jackson: 25%

YankeeScribe says:

CC is having a very Pettite-esque start. Hopefully he can hang in there through the 7th…

putt says:

On a completely different note… I live out in the Bay Area, and I found it hilarious that every AM sports station reported all day that the A’s had today off and will start a 3 game series with the Yanks on Friday.

It just shows how irrelevant they’ve become. All they talk about is what moves the Giants should make to reach the playoffs. Oakland is a complete after thought.

Mike Pop says:

Maybe they get back on the map once Cahill, Anderson, and MAzarro become the great pitchers they should become. Another big 3.

Arman Tamzarian says:

I got home today and was like “Great, I can watch the game at a regular time for once” then mlb.tv was blacked out

putt says:

I get the extra innings package, and for some reason they blocked out both the MLB network feed and the YES feed. I’m watching it on the local channel. I don’t understand this stuff sometimes…

Riddering says:

Jesus with 7% of the text poll. Coincidence? I think not.

pat says:

Had it been a papyrus poll he would have won!

/leaves.

Salty Buggah says:

Jeter singles here with bases empty…

and he does while I type that.

Salty Buggah says:

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

If those fans in that poll ever boo Montero when he comes up, I will rip their heads off.

Salty Buggah says:

they should intentionally walk Tex to face the guy in steep decline

j says:

hey rab crew havent posted in a minute with new job which is at nights… finally enjoying a game on a day off. did anyone else notice that we have a sponsor for the “official hospital of the new york yankees” sign? i find that hilarious.

I know the Mets have an “Official Window Supplier.” That made me laugh when I first saw it.

Salty Buggah says:

though that was more borderline and not completely inside but that similar to A-rod’s called K

TurnTwo says:

i have to admit, i never thought id have even made it this far into the game. MO bless Allaghash Brewing Company and their magnificent White Ale.

Ivan says:

Well today’s friday folks.

Kevin G. says:

DOUBLEHEADAAAH!!!!!!

Carsten always seems to get stronger as the game goes on.

TurnTwo says:

well, when i said it was time for him to take over this game before? he obviously was reading RAB, and took it to heart.

Accent Shallow says:

CC is a horse. Little worried about the drop in K-rate, though.

Assuage my fears before I piss my pants, please.

Steve H says:

CC is teh suxor!!!!

Go piss yourself.

Accent Shallow says:

I’m not saying he sucks, or he’s going to fall off a cliff, so chill out.

Just his strikeout rate is trending down, and that’s typically not a good thing. Perhaps it’s a blip? He is getting less swings and misses overall, per Fangraphs.

Steve H says:

Sorry, I know that’s not what you were saying. I was just saying that he in fact does suck, to make you piss your pants, as I would find that amusing.

Salty Buggah says:

Yea, that does seem like a concern. I wonder how his GB rate has changed as he said he learned a 2-seamer after is struggles last year.

Salty Buggah says:

Hmmm, his GB% is 4% lower than last year too. Odd but his ERA is in line with his FIP.

Jose says:

Assuage? Is that some kind of bad sausage?

TurnTwo says:

i think that means ‘without sausage’

Steve H says:

I thought it was short for Ass Sewage.

TurnTwo says:

that pitch by CC just wasnt fair, at all.

Accent Shallow says:

I think I’d rather see Swisher in left than Damon at this point.

Ivan says:

CC you do know it’s Mark Ellis rite.

Yankee1010 says:

Aceves for the 2 inning save?

Zach says:

Mo was unavailable Thursday, its now Friday :)

Steve H says:

I thought James Andrews was a legendary arm doctor.

Why’s he checking out a Wang?

Jose says:

Hopefully it isn’t anything more than a little stiffness. The Yankees really need a good Wang this year. That will help ease the pitching tension and may lead them to drinking champagne after the playoffs while celebrating with Wang all night. They wouldn’t trade a good Wang for anything.

Jack says:

Dela G says:

wow that ball 3 was a clear strike

Ivan says:

thebusiness says:

Jesus H. Montero Joe.. let Melancon pitch. 3 run lead. You’re going to regret using Hughes/Mo/Aceves/Coke every single day in July.

Salty Buggah says:

Wow! He really settled down after a shaky start. He had like 21 strikes and 15 balls after the 3rd. Now he has 71 strikes and only 38 balls. Brilliant!

Steve H says:

j says:

how about sponsor’s for pitcher’s starts?

This start by CC Sabathia is sponsored by …

yankees are finding new ways to find money every day…

For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

At least it’s spent on Tex, AJ and CC and then subsequent luxury taxes, unlike other owners.

KG Sturnz0r - Camilo Gerardo says:

Another day, another dollar

Manimal says:

Anyone watching Conan? Zach Galifianakis is hilarious

Riddering says:

Remember when our bullpen had more than three guys?

Zach says:

remember looking at the other guys numbers?

Dela G says:

did anyone see how the defense was brought to you by mercedes benz?

as an audi driver, i say screw that

However, houston has an Alex Rodriguez Mercedes Benz, and my dad bought a car from there because a-rod part owns it

Salty Buggah says:

I knew he owned one there and I’ve always wondered, does he actually show up there anytime? And I wonder if his business went when he admitted to using PEDs while in Texas.

Dela G says:

he shows up once a year to drum up sales, but his business has been booming since it opened. When my dad bought the benz in january, he had to wait until june to get it because the a-rod dealership was cleaned out. They are probably in a little bit of a downturn, but they are the 2nd best MB dealer in houston in sales i believe

I used to have an A4. Damn fine machine, wish I still had it.

TurnTwo says:

i’m sure nothing like my 2008 hyundai elantra, but not all cars can be so perfect.

Dela G says:

i have an 06 A6, i love that car very much.

then again, i had to work for 3 summers to be able to afford the first 2 years payments, then i got me a steady job to pay the monthly payments ever since

Dorian says:

I wonder if Girardi will use Hughes for two to close it out. Mo’s worked a ton lately, and it’s not like he’s a 38-yr old coming off fairly major shoulder surgery or anything.

JGS says:

I think Pete said earlier that Joe said that Mo was out tonight. Hughes for 2 to close?

Yankee1010 says:

I just hope that he doesn’t automatically go to Hughes any time it’s a relatively close lead like this. Hughes and Mo are great security blankets (and thankfully, Mo is getting the day off), but as Joe Torre showed everyone, that doesn’t work over the course of a whole season.

Hopefully, there’s a blowout or 2 coming for the Yanks so that they can get Melancon, Robertson and Bruney some more work.

Riddering says:

I will PAY for a blowout at this point just so Robertson, Bruney, and Melancon can get some work.

beware of Michael Kay in developing No Hitters says:

phil hughes cannot be used with this frequency. it’s like scott proctor – but better – and in the 8th inning instead of the 7th. can’t we trust robertson? his era is pretty decent. why only trust ace, coke and phil??

Zach says:

robertson: 16BB in 22 IP

beware of Michael Kay in developing No Hitters says:

valid point. still – this bullpen management style is torre-esque. Yeah I said it. I trust you, you and you. The rest of you can go screw yourselves.

Zach says:

yeah well ride the hot hand. i dont need to see drob come in and walk the first guy he faces

pat says:

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Girardi, Melancon says hello?!

TurnTwo says:

apparently, he does not.

Rey22 says:

So, if Mo’s unavailable, who closes tonight?

j says:

phil’s last two cutters have been disgusting.

Salty Buggah says:

91 mph Cutter! Usually its 88

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

One day, Girardi is going to send out Hughes who has a bad night, when our other guys haven’t pitched in 10 days…

Dorian says:

Phil Hughes doesn’t have bad nights. Not even to see how they feel

Steve H says:

A-Rod to Tex. One 1B to another.

Salty Buggah says:

So can D-rob or Melancon get work anytime soon? When we’re gonna be forced to use them, theyre gonna be all rusty.

Theryre not bad but just had bad outings. A 3 run lead is enough to get them work.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

j says:

hughes in for 9th?

Salty Buggah says:

how did that ball 1 to Nomah miss? damn inconsistent ump.

Mike bk says:

let hughes close it in the 9th like they should have yesterday.

Manimal says:

9 pitches for Phil The Reliever. That was one batter for Phil The starter

j says:

eh oakland hasn’t been very patient today.

pat says:

I fucking love the new patented Robinson Cano Running Floater he throws to first base. That is such a ridiculously hard throw to put on the mark (Teixiera.. LOLZ) while sprinting in the opposite direction.

Salty Buggah says:

Ivan says:

Salty Buggah says:

no K’s = BUST!!!!!!!

Ah Santiago Casilla. The pitcher formerly known as Jairo Garcia.

gxpanos says:

He was sick nasty as Jairo Garcia in MVP ‘05 for PS2. My closer for ten years, I think.

gxpanos says:

So who’s Joe going to send out for the ninth? He said Mo was unavailable, but he’s stretching.

The only bet I’d take is: NOT DRob, Brunedog, or Melancon.

Sigh.

Riddering says:

How many more runs would the Yanks have to tack on in this inning for us to see anyone but Mo, Hughes, Ace or Coke?

Yankee1010 says:

JobaWockeeZ says:

Well I’m torn between Hughes for the 9th or Melancon/D-Rob.

Salty Buggah says:

Well Casilla has a high ERA so can we get at least one more run?

Salty Buggah says:

there ya go Melky! Now bring him in Jete.
