No, no, no, you're doing it wrong, Jamal. Any prospect who has a good stretch of, say, 15-25 games simply must be promoted. Get with the program, son.

(Joking aside... The kid is 18 and playing in the US for the first time, what say we let him just stay in one place and play some baseball before we worry about rushing him through the system every time he hits a few bombs.)

I think the fact that he's actually playing will probably make the Pirates happy, especially after his f'ed up off-season.

Didn't Giambi come up as a 3B? If so, Shelly at 3B would make Giambi at 3B look comparatively decent.

Biggest difference is that GCL is typically where high schoolers who have never really used wood bats and IFA's come over for seasoning. Short Season A-ball is usually where just-drafted college players and guys already in the system end up.

Considering it is his first season in the US, De Leon is probably just left where he is. Next year, though, I expect to see him break camp in Charleston.

From the "Where are they now" file. Former Yankee Prospect Jose Tabata.

AA 2009-.271/.354/.353 with 2 HRs and a .707 OPS

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/T/Jose-Tabata.shtml

The power still hasn't shown up, and now he seems just as disinterested playing for the Pirates as he did for us.
