Matt Garza fined, but not suspended
ByRemember the other day when Rays’ starter Matt Garza admitted to intentionally hitting Mark Teixeira as retaliation for Joba Chamberlain throwing over Evan Longoria’s head? Well, he’s been fined by the league, but not suspended. Garza’s next scheduled start is against the Red Sox on Tuesday, and if he shuts them down, I’ll call it even. I guess.

So then there is a definitate unapoligetic bias against Joba then?
So AJ Burnett gets suspended for moving someone off the plate (I know, I know) and Garza only gets a fine for hitting someone and saying it was on purpose?

Exactly what I was thinking. Unreal. Burnett got suspended 6 games (dropped to 5) for throwing NEAR somebody. Garza hits Teixeira. Admits he did it on purpose. And gets nothing. Unreal.
Doesn’t seem too impartial on Bob Watson’s part.

That makes perfect sense.
Beat the RedSox and all will be forgiven, though that is not his fault. The MLB don’t have set standards for punishing acts similar to Garza’s actions. Too subjective.
Way too much was made of that. Walk it off, boys.
A) The Yanks don’t seem to care.
B) It’s not about Garza. It’s about Bob Watson. We know Garza threw at someone on purpose. He gets no suspension. AJ got suspended because Watson THINKS he threw NEAR someone on purpose.
Bob Watson = Senator “Honest George” Mitchell.
It’s amazing how they keep getting away with it…Watson has never forgiven the Yankees for asking him to move on.

What? The master of suspendidng people for perceived intent lets Garza off the hook with a slap on the wrist fine when he DOES hit someone and proudly admits it? I’m shocked. Shocked!
I once hit a kid in the seventh grade, but I quickly apologized so he wouldn’t feel the need to retaliate later.
actually this is fine with me. next time we play tampa and they throw up and in to jeter, whoever is pitching can go right ahead bean longoria, all they have to do is admit it was on purpose. If suspended, they can certainly appeal and cite the precedent set by this. I’m not rooting to see bean ball wars, or for people to get hurt, but if MLB isn’t going to protect your hitters who is?
If it ever does come to that, I hope it’s CC on the mound so whoever gets it doesn’t get any ideas about being a tough guy. “wow! that man is enormous, I’ll just take my base”

Garza deserved to be suspended – no question.
