Phelps dominates in Tampa debut

Game 96 Spillover Thread
Yanks put up an 8-spot for 8th straight win

Chase Weems was placed on the temporary inactive list. That just means he’ll be out briefly, so maybe he’s got a wedding to go to or something, and since he’s a catcher they needed to add someone to the roster.

Jesus Montero placed seventh on Baseball American’s Prospect Hot Sheet, but Andrew Brackman made the not so hot sheet.

great job by Phelps, he should have been there 3 weeks ago at least.

any chance Medchill was out today cause he got promoted to Charleston or just a day off?

    • http://www.baby-bombers.com/ RPimpsner

I just sent in my game recap to Gotham Baseball. I included some updates on Kelvin Perez and Neil Medchill.

      • Mike bk

any chance we can preview it here or it will be up tomorrow on the gotham site?

        • http://www.baby-bombers.com/ RPimpsner

It should be up sometime tonight. I am in the process of finding the photo to go with the article. I am thinking either Rondon or Almonte.

BTW – Richardson is expected to make his SI debut tomorrow.

          • Mike bk

might have to go down to CI to watch Matt and the crew then.

  • Brett Speedner

    CoJo might be legit

    • Mike bk

be nice if he had a little more pop.

  • Drew

Does DeLeon get a double everyday? Also, E-Ram and Albaladingo doing their best to show us why they’re not in the bigs…

    • Mike bk

and a strikeout. 33 in 93 abs is not good.

  • JMK

Mike: Any guesses as to what happened to Angelini? He seemed to be a really promising prospect and now…not so much.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    • j

      He’s actually Drew Henson.

      • JMK

        I feel ill.

    • Mike

I was at the SI Yanks game tonight and saw Angelini in the field. He actually looked pretty solid defensively and made a nice diving stop. However he proceeded to then throw the ball nearly into the dugout. His throwing was just terrible all game. Aside from that bad throw was the one he got an error on and also one which should have been a double play. Its hard to watch.

      • JMK

Sounds like he has a case of Knoblauchitus. And his batting stats don’t appear all that hot either. Anyway, thanks for the report.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Golsan ftw!

  • Zach

“If he’s got another month in him like the ones that have come before, you may be looking at our Minor League Player of the Year.”

-the hot sheet talking about montero

  • Charlie

who the hell is francisco rondon? where do these guys come from?

  • rconn23

Any chance CoJo gets a promotion to Tampa soon?

Does he have any chance to make the major league roster one day?

  • billbybob

Speaking of the hot sheet, didn’t the Yanks draft Chris Carpenter two years ago?

    • AndrewYF

They did, but he didn’t sign.

    • Mike bk

      yea, 18th round 2007.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

If he’s got another month in him like the ones that have come before, you may be looking at our Minor League Player of the Year.

    Thumbs way up.

    • Accent Shallow

This is totally wild, especially since it seems all the prospect gurus do is bash his defense.

(To be fair, it’s probably more interesting to talk about his failings as a catcher than it is to say “Yup, the kid can hit,” over and over again)

  • pollo

Does anyone else think that Charleston reminds them of the Angels?

Singles hitting team with a bunch of sub .300 hitters.

  • crawdaddie

I heard that a grandparent of Weems passed away which is why he’s away from the team.

  • DreDog

When the Yankees drafted Phelps, scouting reports had him with a low 90’s FB and average movement. I know Lane Meyer loved this pick, but what else has he got? He would need to improve somewhere to make the bigs, no? 2008 draft not looking like doomsday after all.

P.S. I know this is out of subject, but a Mets fan just blogged about how they should offer Delgado and Wagner arbitration for draft picks. Am I the only one that thinks that’s batsh*t insane?

    • pollo

No? Who else is going to play 1st base for them next year? The FA class is weak. 2011 Pujols/Howard/Prince are FAs.

      • DreDog

$13 million of for a 38 year old injury prone 1st basemen. Nick Johnson is a free agent this year and he will take less than $13 million.

  • Charlie

    where’s the game story?

  • Herb

The beginning of the Judd Golson era, ladies and gentlemen.
