Based on what? In 4 starts Mitre has failed to go 6 innings in all 4 games. In 22 starts Garland has failed to go 6 innings just 3 times. Garland also has 16 quality starts this year. This guy is a perfect bottom of the rotation starter for a team that scores runs because he'll keep you in nearly every game and won't burn out your bullpen. He won't win the game for you, but he's not going to lose it for you very often either.

Garland is definitely the best option if available. The guy is a quality start machine who consistently goes deep into games. In his past 12 starts he has gone at least 6 innings in each game and only 2 of those starts were not quality starts. He is exactly what we need in that #5 spot someone who can keep us in the game and get it to our bullpen.

I also like Duchscherer.

Hopefully these guys make it to us on the waiver wire. If not the rest of the crop is pretty much garbage both either Garland or Duchscherer could be great midseason pickups.

"When the Jays place Roy Halladay on waivers — and they certainly will — the Sox will almost certainly put in a claim. Even then, a team like Texas or Detroit might place their claim first, effectively cutting out the Sox. The pickings could be slim by the time it gets to the Yanks and Sox." Halladay's contract is big;so how can you be so sure Texas, Detroit, or Boston will pick up his contract. Further, ewat about foreign pitchers ? What ever happened to the Cuban Lefty who recently fled Cuba? What about Japanese , Venezulian SP?
