  1. ShuutoHeat says:

New thread, new beginning… good luck!

  2. JMK says:

That inning was nuts. How did that even happen? I’m in shock.

  3. Jared says:

Shitty inning for Burnett…If we don’t get any runs off DFA’ed Brett Tomko I might cry!

  4. Hm, upon further review, the smarter play for Swisher probably would’ve been to round that ball off and hold it to a single rather than try for a dive. Melky probably could’ve been a bit closer on the back up. Fuck. Oh well, it was a well struck ball.

    Get ‘em back now, Yanks.

  5. Giacomo says:

NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT LITTLE LEAGUE, IM GLAD THEY CUT YOU OFF

  6. cjc says:

why the hell would you bring the infield in against brett fucking tomko in hte 4th can you really think this is a 1 run kind of game seriously tht was dumb and led to a big inning

  7. Bugsy says:

right the ship, brothers. right the ship.

  8. Salty Buggah says:

OK, offense, please no more fucking around. Can we please have some runs now?

no more leaving RISP on, drive em in.

The negative posters are back so please drive them away

  9. Bugsy says:

    christ, he looks bad.

  10. Giacomo says:

FUCK MELKY, THERE ARE CHILDREN WATCHING!!

  11. Drew says:

You won’t like MElky when he’s angry.

  12. Melky’s last 20 games have not been pretty.

  13. JMK says:

When is the last time Melky put a good swing on the ball? He’s looked really bad the past few weeks.

  14. Giacomo says:

    Battle of the Scranton Alumni

  15. Salty Buggah says:

Can we have good Melky back?

  16. The fact that the Yanks can’t score one fucking run off of Tomko grates on me.

  17. cjc says:

this is getting hard to watch

  18. charlespoet says:

Why is it ever pitcher the Yankees release ends up giving them a fit when they face them?

Yanks need to realize they are playing a game tonight.

    • Little Bill says:

Pretty sure they realize that. They’ve hit balls hard, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

      • charlespoet says:

Ya they have, especially that hit by ARod, knock the freakin cover off the ball. Nothing like swinging at that first pitch.

        • Drew says:

oh stop whining… they swing at balls they think they can hit.

        • Little Bill says:

So you pick that one AB to make your point. Johnny’s hit two deep fly balls, Jeter has hit it hard all 3 ABs, funny you don’t criticize him for swinging at the 1st pitch. Teix hit a double, Posada got a hit, Pena got a hit. I guess winning 23 out of 30 isn’t good enough for some people.

    • Drew says:

      hyper bowl much?
      /Atlas’d

  19. Jersey says:

Captain trying to set the world aright.

  20. John, I got news for you: you didn’t hit well anywhere.

  21. Salty Buggah says:

Tomko is so getting lucky today. The hits aren’t falling for us and he got a lucky DP and is getting lucky with RISP

    • Charlie says:

there’s also been a shit load of weak pop ups against tomko, and those don’t fall often. and the DP wasn’t really lucky at all. there’s no excuses for getting shut down by Brett Tomko. I think we’ll get to him eventually, but so far this has been ugly

  22. Antwan says:

A hit! A hit! OMG a hit!!! I just jizzed

  23. Bugsy says:

earlier in the game thread, someone said tomko was gonna pitch 5 scoreless innings. whoever said that, I blame you.

  24. ShuutoHeat says:

Eh guys, the pop-up machine is on. Turn it off.

  25. cjc says:

god I hate this stadium its ridiculous how much foul territory there is

  26. BigBlueAL says:

Cant wait to read the post-game interviews from the Yankee players praising Tomko’s really good stuff.

  27. Giacomo says:

    PAINTING THE BLACK!!!!!

  28. JobaWockeeZ says:

God damn you Tomko wanting to kill the Yankees because you felt undeserving DFA’d.

  29. charlespoet says:

Tomko is fucking owning this team tonight. Very sad. Very, very, sad. But we all need some good comedy everyday, so this must be it.

  30. Accent Shallow says:

    That sure looked comfortably outside.

Guess the ump is getting into the revenge narrative.

  31. cjc says:

yeah sure why not a Tomko fist pump and hop they deserve it

  32. Salty Buggah says:

WTF! How much more outside can that get. Gameday says that ball was in San Diego, that’s how far out of the strikezone it was.

  33. ShuutoHeat says:

Jeet was clearly aiming for his head.

  34. Moshe Mandel says:

Wow, that was not even close.

  35. Giacomo says:

Can’t wait ’till we face Jose Veras in a big spot in a tie game. He’ll blow away 6 in a row over the 7th and 8th innings

  36. Accent Shallow says:

I’m almost as annoyed as I was the game Pavano won.

  37. Tom Zig says:

The season isn’t over, but it is very embarassing to be shut out by Brett Tomko. This would be an awesome game to win considering the Sox do not play.

  38. JobaWockeeZ says:

Oh cool more bad ump calls. Tell me why I’m not surprised.

  39. Bugsy says:

    hey, where’s matsui?

  40. Salty Buggah says:

as long as AJ gets that call, Im OK.

  41. Giacomo says:

Well, I guess you can say that Tomko is an artist off AND on the field.

  42. ShuutoHeat says:

Anyone else hate that doofus watching behind the plate with the big head? For some reason, the hate is on tonight and I wanna beat the ugly smile off his face.

  43. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

Yankees sign Smoltz, set to start against Red Sox. Said Smoltz “DFA’d pitchers have a history of success against their old clubs.”

  44. Bugsy says:

I bet Jeter is undefeated in the Toyota Text Poll.

  45. cjc says:

pete abe not pulling any puches

UPDATE, 11:01 p.m.: I want to be careful how I word this because its important to be accurate in my line of work. So here goes:

It’s an absolute disgrace the Yankees have not scored off Brett Tomko in four innings. A travesty

UPDATE, 11:27 p.m.: Brett Tomko takes the shutout into the sixth inning. 5 5 0 0 1 1. The Yankees should be ashamed of themselves.

  46. Giacomo says:

    TEIXEIRA. RODRIGUEZ. POSADA.

Foul out, strike out, pop out.

  47. Evan says:

It’s OK, Yankees. You don’t have to face Tomko anymore.

  48. Giacomo says:

Damn fool, you just got Tomkoed on your ass.

  49. ShuutoHeat says:

Nothing like monkey in the middle to get everyone’s blood boiling.

  50. JMK says:

This is an episode of the Twilight Zone, right?

  51. Giacomo says:

Sorry guys, I guess my prediction was in the wrong order. What I meant to say was: pop out, foul out, fly out.

  52. Bugsy says:

They should DL ARod. Just reserve him for the playoffs.

  53. Really? Bobby Crosby? Goddammit.

  54. Salty Buggah says:

    fuckin crosby?

  55. cjc says:

ok fuck this 1 pitch pop up crap time for bed I need to get up early and this game is just going to make me want to throw something 5 shutout inning against us by Tomko wtf hope to wake up and hear some good comeback news

  56. Giacomo says:

Yeah it’s alright if we lose the game and no Yankee fan should really care if we lose because we’re ahead by 7.5 games, but the circumstances make the loss just a LITTLE embarassing.

  57. JMK says:

Ugh! I’m going to punch my cat in the face. I am so mad!

    • handtius says:

      That’s just stupid.

      • Mike Pop says:

Just silly. What did his cat do, ya know?

        • JMK says:

He has a peeing problem. He knows how to use the litter box but pisses all over the house anyway. He also ate most of his tail off so his balance is distorted. Recently, I bought him a cat diaper (they exist) and he just chewed threw it and pissed on the wires behind the entertainment center.

So, I really should punch him.

      • JMK says:

Yes, I abuse my animals when the Yankees are losing. This might explain some of his problems.

    • ShuutoHeat says:

a friend of mine just sent me a picture of the red sux a few years back with Manny still on the team. It’s basically a picture with Papelbon grabbing Manny’s junk. That made my day.

  58. handtius says:

Come down people. Have we not won a shite load of games lately? Sometimes we have to lose. Sometimes we’ll actually lose 2 in a row, maybe even 3. It happens. Take a deep breath and relax.

    • Drew says:

Let’s lose before we give all these crazies the “win some lose some” speech.

      • handtius says:

Actually, no. I’m tired of all this bitching in the six when we’re down by 3. People need to relax and stop damning this team so early in games. They could come back, they could lose. Either way, we are still up by 7 or 8 games.

    • Salty Buggah says:

      Like Mike said…SEASON’s OVa!!!!!!!

    • Bugsy says:

I really dont think anyone thinks the sky is falling.

    • Accent Shallow says:

Hey, losing happens. I’m prepared to deal with that.

It’s just frustrating as hell when a garbage pitcher like Tomko goes 5 shutout innings. Doubly so when he mouthed off after the Yankees released him after he pitched to the tune of an 85 ERA+, with 5 homers allowed in 20 innings.

  59. Giacomo says:

damn west coast ballparks have that annoying bullshit piped in fan noise/shit music…i feel like they’re playing in a minor league ballpark

  60. Mike Pop says:

I love posters that only come around during games like this.

  61. Giacomo says:

Look, I know your mother just died, but WE GOT RAJAI DAVIS OUT!!!!!

  62. Giacomo says:

    hahahahahahahahahhahahahaa the chants!!!

  63. Accent Shallow says:

I concur with the chant. No runs off Tomko?

  64. Drew says:

19 minutes!! Strasburg will be…. I’m gonna say he’ll sign.

  65. Okay Yankees, score a fucking run or fuck me sideways for staying up to watch this….

  66. If a player hits a HR where the goal post should be is it worth 3?

  67. Esteban says:

    Two things:
    1) Mauer is by far the MVP, and Jeter is more valuable than Teixeira
    2) Honus Wagner was a much better hitter than Jeter (150 OPS+ vs. 121 OPS+) and since we know Derek Jeter’s never been a great fielder, there is no question that Honus Wagner is the far superior SS.

  68. Giacomo says:

Strasburg has signed a 2 year, $69,000 deal with the Evansville Otters.

  69. BigBlueAL says:

Losing doesnt bother me considering the standings but ever since the Red Sox series it seems like the Yankees have gotten into a lets relax and rest players mode and be ready for the playoffs.

Of course I say that and the Yankees did win 5 in a row last week so I know I sound a bit ridiculous….

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Jeter got hit so he needed a day off. A-Rod got hit and he needed a day off. Melky has been sucking so he got a day off. Cano just got a day off because he never had a day off. But if they’re all healthy and effective, it works out since they’re facing Boston again.

      • BigBlueAL says:

Yeah I know its just I dont like hearing Girardi constantly talk about its time to start giving guys days off and stuff when he only started saying that after they swept the Sox.

If you start kinda treating the games like they arent as important anymore the players will naturally play the same way. Of course if they lose tonight they will be 5-3 since the Sox series so really nothing to complain about.

    • Little Bill says:

They’re in a good position where they can give some of their older players or slumping players a day off here and there. A-Rod can rest a minor injury, Matsui can rest an injury, slumping Melky can get a day off, who else have they been resting? They’ve won both series since Boston. I don’t understand what you’re saying.

  70. Giacomo says:

    Wooptie-doo.

  71. JMK says:

    Yeah Swish!

  72. Evan says:

Yeah, Swish. Let’s get a rally going.

  73. Drew says:

Ugh, Swisher is the worst on the paths…

  74. Moshe Mandel says:

    No luck tonight. Well hit.

  75. JMK says:

That was just bad luck. It’s nice to see him put a good swing on the ball, though.

  76. Salty Buggah says:

Melky hit it hard again but right at Davis

  77. Giacomo says:

    yawn….

  78. Salty Buggah says:

0-5 with RISP…nothing going our way

  79. JMK says:

When do we get back home so I can play the Michael Kay drinking game?

  80. .. says:

Some of you guys are pathetic acting as if this is a game 7 of the world series of something. Get a damn grip.

  81. Pastafarian says:

How about a new thread for luck?

  82. acb says:

still kind of embaressing not gettin a run off tomko

  83. BigBlueAL says:

Shit forgot the Giants played tonight. Saw that they won but that WR corps really scares the shit out of me. Of course if Eli struggles he will get all the blam but really who the hell is he going to throw the ball to.

    • The Giants’ offense is not going to be all that good this year. I know Jacobs/Bradshaw is a good punch in the backfield, but when teams start stacking the box on them, the Giants have no deep threat to break that. The defense had better be on its toes this year.

    • JMK says:

Eh, I wouldn’t worry too much. It was the first preseason game. We can’t expect them to have gelled yet. Hopefully Hixon, Moss, Barden, Manningham or Nicks steps up. They have the talent. Someone should.

  84. Charlie says:

i know its just one game, but its stupid to think this game is not important. Every game counts, the bigger the yanks division lead, the better. And the bigger their lead, the more rested their best players will be for october.

  85. Giacomo says:

    thank you

  86. Bugsy says:

    burnett is pretty awesome though

  87. fuck me sideways, Yankees, SCORE A FUCKING RUN WHY DONCHA?!

  88. handtius says:

Damn. He didn’t strike out Cust again. What a loser.

  89. Danny says:

this game is really annoying the crap out of me, is that just me being a spoiled yankee fan?

i think i have a legit reason, it was brett freaken tomko for crying out loud.

  90. Giacomo says:

Yay. Burnett can pitch a good game against a AAA-caliber offense. Yay.

  91. Giacomo says:

WHAT AN EFFORT BY ELLIS…WHAT AN EFFORT.

  92. JMK says:

Oh man, our luck tonight is terrible.

  93. adeelmd says:

    so strasburg didn’t sign?

  94. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Fuck the baseball gods.

  95. Salty Buggah says:

thats our luck…2 feet away from being a XBH

Damon hits it hard again but right at em again

  96. Giacomo says:

we couldnt win if there was a tee there with our bad luck tonight, eh

  97. Moshe Mandel says:

Lol. What a night. That AB by Damon….

  98. Danny says:

soo in other news, is strasburg now a multi-millionare?

  99. Salty Buggah says:

hit hard again but right at the CFer

  100. Bugsy says:

christ. i cant be upset at that though, just bad luck.

  101. DreDog says:

Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you. No big deal. It’s not a playoff game or a home game.

    Go get ‘em tomorrow.

  102. handtius says:

babip correction from this inning on?

  103. adeelmd says:

15 mil for strasburg is a rip off

  104. acb says:

    wow that was close

  105. JMK says:

Stasburg to sign for close to 15 mil.
    http://twitter.com/bigleaguestew/status/3376106100

    Ackley signed.

  106. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Fuck the fucking baseball gods.

  107. Moshe Mandel says:

    Goddddddddddd……….

  108. JMK says:

You have to swing at that!

  109. Drew says:

Dang, I totally thought Jorgie was gonna juice one.

  110. JobaWockeeZ says:

Actually Jorge that looked right down the middle. Too close to take…

  111. acb says:

what are posadas stats on the road?

  112. ShuutoHeat says:

    The stadium is puke ugly.

  113. Salty Buggah says:

chalk this one to bad luck I say…though its not over yet

  114. Awesomeness says:

Pete Abe seems to have a big grudge against tomko

  115. Bugsy says:

    CG for Burnett!!

  116. Danny says:

John sterling: “You just cant predict baseball.”

  117. Karl says:

Can we lose two in a row? We’re doooooooooooooomed.

  118. Bugsy says:

i really dont want to see andrew bailey.

  119. trueblue says:

This is the 1st time I wanted to boo in a looong time.

Every one of these guys, led by Arod should apologize to AJ.

  120. JMK says:

Look on the bright side, guys. It’s been a really quick game. A lot of bad luck, a lot of missed opportunities, but that will happen. I’m still pissed, but this sort of thing will happen.

Did we ever end up signing anyone after Mitchell?

  121. ShuutoHeat says:

    Everidge sure is pudgy..
