        Both.

      • ShuutoHeat

        For the Yunks!

  • JMK

That inning was nuts. How did that even happen? I’m in shock.

  • Jared

Shitty inning for Burnett…If we don’t get any runs off DFA’ed Brett Tomko I might cry!

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Hm, upon further review, the smarter play for Swisher probably would’ve been to round that ball off and hold it to a single rather than try for a dive. Melky probably could’ve been a bit closer on the back up. Fuck. Oh well, it was a well struck ball.

    Get ’em back now, Yanks.

  • Giacomo

NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT LITTLE LEAGUE, IM GLAD THEY CUT YOU OFF

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Don’t sugarcoat it, Giacomo; tell us how you really feel.

  • cjc

why the hell would you bring the infield in against brett fucking tomko in hte 4th can you really think this is a 1 run kind of game seriously tht was dumb and led to a big inning

  • Bugsy

right the ship, brothers. right the ship.

  • Salty Buggah

OK, offense, please no more fucking around. Can we please have some runs now?

no more leaving RISP on, drive em in.

The negative posters are back so please drive them away

  • Bugsy

    christ, he looks bad.

  • Giacomo

FUCK MELKY, THERE ARE CHILDREN WATCHING!!

    • JobaWockeeZ

      …Relax. There’s 4 innings left to play.

  • Drew

You won’t like MElky when he’s angry.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Melky’s last 20 games have not been pretty.

  • JMK

When is the last time Melky put a good swing on the ball? He’s looked really bad the past few weeks.

    • cjc

    • Drew

Can we have good Melky back?

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

The fact that the Yanks can’t score one fucking run off of Tomko grates on me.

    • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

      Fuck you sideways?

      But he’s a starting pitcher!!!!

  • cjc

this is getting hard to watch

  • charlespoet

Why is it ever pitcher the Yankees release ends up giving them a fit when they face them?

Yanks need to realize they are playing a game tonight.

    • Little Bill

Pretty sure they realize that. They’ve hit balls hard, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

      • charlespoet

Ya they have, especially that hit by ARod, knock the freakin cover off the ball. Nothing like swinging at that first pitch.

        • Drew

oh stop whining… they swing at balls they think they can hit.

          • handtius

No they don’t. They only swing at pitches they know go for homeruns.

        • Little Bill

So you pick that one AB to make your point. Johnny’s hit two deep fly balls, Jeter has hit it hard all 3 ABs, funny you don’t criticize him for swinging at the 1st pitch. Teix hit a double, Posada got a hit, Pena got a hit. I guess winning 23 out of 30 isn’t good enough for some people.

    • Drew

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

John, I got news for you: you didn’t hit well anywhere.

  • Salty Buggah

Tomko is so getting lucky today. The hits aren’t falling for us and he got a lucky DP and is getting lucky with RISP

    • Charlie

there’s also been a shit load of weak pop ups against tomko, and those don’t fall often. and the DP wasn’t really lucky at all. there’s no excuses for getting shut down by Brett Tomko. I think we’ll get to him eventually, but so far this has been ugly

  • Antwan

A hit! A hit! OMG a hit!!! I just jizzed

  • Bugsy

earlier in the game thread, someone said tomko was gonna pitch 5 scoreless innings. whoever said that, I blame you.

    • ShuutoHeat

KEEEL HIM!! GET THE PITCHFORKS!! LIGHT THE TORCHES!! WE HUNT HIM TONIGHT!!!!!!

    • handtius

yeah. it’s all their fault. Not the pitcher and the hitters and fielders.

      • Bugsy

        yeah, that’s what I meant.

  • ShuutoHeat

Eh guys, the pop-up machine is on. Turn it off.

  • cjc

god I hate this stadium its ridiculous how much foul territory there is

  • BigBlueAL

Cant wait to read the post-game interviews from the Yankee players praising Tomko’s really good stuff.

    • JMK

      IT’S IN THE RED!

      How much black is there?

  • JobaWockeeZ

God damn you Tomko wanting to kill the Yankees because you felt undeserving DFA’d.

    • JMK

Think you were looking for an adverb there.

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

        Haha nice.

I’d like to by an -ly ending please.

        Or…

Lolly lolly lolly get your adverbs here!

  • charlespoet

Tomko is fucking owning this team tonight. Very sad. Very, very, sad. But we all need some good comedy everyday, so this must be it.

  • Accent Shallow

    That sure looked comfortably outside.

Guess the ump is getting into the revenge narrative.

  • cjc

yeah sure why not a Tomko fist pump and hop they deserve it

    • JobaWockeeZ

Considering that pitch is WAYYY out.

  • Salty Buggah

WTF! How much more outside can that get. Gameday says that ball was in San Diego, that’s how far out of the strikezone it was.

    • Jersey

Always gotta be skeptical of Gameday.

  • ShuutoHeat

Jeet was clearly aiming for his head.

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Wow, that was not even close.

  • Giacomo

Can’t wait ’till we face Jose Veras in a big spot in a tie game. He’ll blow away 6 in a row over the 7th and 8th innings

    • cjc

lol sad part is its probably true

  • Accent Shallow

I’m almost as annoyed as I was the game Pavano won.

  • Tom Zig

The season isn’t over, but it is very embarassing to be shut out by Brett Tomko. This would be an awesome game to win considering the Sox do not play.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Oh cool more bad ump calls. Tell me why I’m not surprised.

  • Bugsy

    hey, where’s matsui?

    • JMK

  • ShuutoHeat

Anyone else hate that doofus watching behind the plate with the big head? For some reason, the hate is on tonight and I wanna beat the ugly smile off his face.

UPDATE, 11:01 p.m.: I want to be careful how I word this because its important to be accurate in my line of work. So here goes:

It’s an absolute disgrace the Yankees have not scored off Brett Tomko in four innings. A travesty

UPDATE, 11:27 p.m.: Brett Tomko takes the shutout into the sixth inning. 5 5 0 0 1 1. The Yankees should be ashamed of themselves.

    • Tom Zig

    • Bugsy

I am fond of your optimism.

    • JobaWockeeZ

I’m glad people have faith in the team considering they have the best record in the MLB.
      Yankee fans are so optimistic.

    • Jersey

Those guys, right now, are 2 of 5 with a walk and a double.

      And Tomko is GONE

    • Salty Buggah

Dude, Lanny, relax. If we lose (and we still have 4 innings)
, it’ll only be like the 3rd loss in the past 15 games. Relax, shit happens.

  • http://and-that-happened.blogspot.com Evan

It’s OK, Yankees. You don’t have to face Tomko anymore.

  • JMK

This is an episode of the Twilight Zone, right?

  • Giacomo

Sorry guys, I guess my prediction was in the wrong order. What I meant to say was: pop out, foul out, fly out.

    • Bugsy

jokes on you. you got the order wrong.

  • Bugsy

They should DL ARod. Just reserve him for the playoffs.

    • Salty Buggah

if thats a joke, it’s a REALLY bad one

      • JobaWockeeZ

Well you know his hip is fucked up and every team in the god damn game wants to fucking kill him…

      • Bugsy

i dont see why not. he hasnt really been too productive since the ASB. then again I’m just guessing and I dont think the offense would crumble without his presence.

        • JobaWockeeZ

Ever heard of this 4 game set against Boston where A-Rod was nothing but money?

          • Bugsy

He had 2 big hits, a farcry from a hot streak.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Really? Bobby Crosby? Goddammit.

  • Salty Buggah

    fuckin crosby?

  • cjc

ok fuck this 1 pitch pop up crap time for bed I need to get up early and this game is just going to make me want to throw something 5 shutout inning against us by Tomko wtf hope to wake up and hear some good comeback news

  • Giacomo

Yeah it’s alright if we lose the game and no Yankee fan should really care if we lose because we’re ahead by 7.5 games, but the circumstances make the loss just a LITTLE embarassing.

    • Salty Buggah

so what? Shit happens over a 162 game season

      • Mike Pop

It’s crazy, to think the Yankees are going to lose. Don’t cha know.

    • JobaWockeeZ

There we go! Yes embarrassing but shit happens in this game called beisbol.

    • Little Bill

Not really. It’s 1 game and anything can happen. The test of a great team is being the best over the entire season. Right now, that’s the Yankees.

  • JMK

Ugh! I’m going to punch my cat in the face. I am so mad!

    • handtius

      That’s just stupid.

      • Mike Pop

Just silly. What did his cat do, ya know?

        • JMK

He has a peeing problem. He knows how to use the litter box but pisses all over the house anyway. He also ate most of his tail off so his balance is distorted. Recently, I bought him a cat diaper (they exist) and he just chewed threw it and pissed on the wires behind the entertainment center.

So, I really should punch him.

      • JMK

Yes, I abuse my animals when the Yankees are losing. This might explain some of his problems.

    • ShuutoHeat

a friend of mine just sent me a picture of the red sux a few years back with Manny still on the team. It’s basically a picture with Papelbon grabbing Manny’s junk. That made my day.

      • ShuutoHeat

        wtf? O_o

  • handtius

Come down people. Have we not won a shite load of games lately? Sometimes we have to lose. Sometimes we’ll actually lose 2 in a row, maybe even 3. It happens. Take a deep breath and relax.

    • Drew

Let’s lose before we give all these crazies the “win some lose some” speech.

      • handtius

Actually, no. I’m tired of all this bitching in the six when we’re down by 3. People need to relax and stop damning this team so early in games. They could come back, they could lose. Either way, we are still up by 7 or 8 games.

    • Salty Buggah

      Like Mike said…SEASON’s OVa!!!!!!!

    • Bugsy

I really dont think anyone thinks the sky is falling.

      • handtius

When the Yanks are losing, the sky is always falling in some peoples eyes.

    • Accent Shallow

Hey, losing happens. I’m prepared to deal with that.

It’s just frustrating as hell when a garbage pitcher like Tomko goes 5 shutout innings. Doubly so when he mouthed off after the Yankees released him after he pitched to the tune of an 85 ERA+, with 5 homers allowed in 20 innings.

  • Giacomo

damn west coast ballparks have that annoying bullshit piped in fan noise/shit music…i feel like they’re playing in a minor league ballpark

  • Mike Pop

I love posters that only come around during games like this.

    • handtius

Didn’t you just come around Mr. Pop? Hmmmm, very interesting.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        He’s probably Lanny in disguise.

        • Mike Pop

  • Giacomo

    hahahahahahahahahhahahahaa the chants!!!

      • Drew

        No idea. I want to say 20.5 but… I’m leaning towards 16.5

        • JMK

Yeah I’m thinking around 18 if it gets done. I really don’t think it will get done though. Hope he signs. It would be great to see him in the majors.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Okay Yankees, score a fucking run or fuck me sideways for staying up to watch this….

    • ShuutoHeat

      O_O

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

If a player hits a HR where the goal post should be is it worth 3?

  • Esteban

    Two things:
    1) Mauer is by far the MVP, and Jeter is more valuable than Teixeira
    2) Honus Wagner was a much better hitter than Jeter (150 OPS+ vs. 121 OPS+) and since we know Derek Jeter’s never been a great fielder, there is no question that Honus Wagner is the far superior SS.

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

      Ok

    • Drew

Dude played in 1900, how the hell can you say he is the far superior short stop?

      • Esteban

talking about overall, since how much worse of a fielder could Wagner have been

        • Mike Pop

That’s the thing, we have no idea.

          • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

He would have to have been pretty much the worst SS ever to make up for the gap in offense.

            • Mike Pop

Ya ya ya, tell me his winning %.

          • Esteban

Well, since there’s been years where Jeter’s been terrible, I think Wanger’s superior batting ability are enough to proclaim him better.

    • Bugsy

Jeter has been more valuable? explain.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Don’t know. Teix is a beast at 1st and OPS’ing more than Jetes.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Jeter’s playing great defense and has been the second best hitting SS in the AL this year. He’s been worth ~5.5 Wins Above Replacement this year to Tex’s 3.8. Good hitting and good defense at SS > good hitting and good defense at 1B.

          • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Make that 5.0 WAR for Jeter, my bad.

          • JobaWockeeZ

Oh fuck me I forgot there was this thing called WAR.

        • Esteban

          Jeter WAR:5.0
          Teixeira: 3.8

          • Bugsy

            shortstops have sucked this year.

      • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Jeter’s numbers compared to a replacement SS are better than Tex’s compared to a replacement 1B.

Jeter’s improved defense at a premium position gives him a higher WAR than Tex.

  • Giacomo

Strasburg has signed a 2 year, $69,000 deal with the Evansville Otters.

    • Mike Pop

      ………..

  • BigBlueAL

Losing doesnt bother me considering the standings but ever since the Red Sox series it seems like the Yankees have gotten into a lets relax and rest players mode and be ready for the playoffs.

Of course I say that and the Yankees did win 5 in a row last week so I know I sound a bit ridiculous….

    • JobaWockeeZ

Jeter got hit so he needed a day off. A-Rod got hit and he needed a day off. Melky has been sucking so he got a day off. Cano just got a day off because he never had a day off. But if they’re all healthy and effective, it works out since they’re facing Boston again.

      • BigBlueAL

Yeah I know its just I dont like hearing Girardi constantly talk about its time to start giving guys days off and stuff when he only started saying that after they swept the Sox.

If you start kinda treating the games like they arent as important anymore the players will naturally play the same way. Of course if they lose tonight they will be 5-3 since the Sox series so really nothing to complain about.

    • Little Bill

They’re in a good position where they can give some of their older players or slumping players a day off here and there. A-Rod can rest a minor injury, Matsui can rest an injury, slumping Melky can get a day off, who else have they been resting? They’ve won both series since Boston. I don’t understand what you’re saying.

  • Giacomo

    Wooptie-doo.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Did I forget to say how grateful Yankee fans are?

Not really. We’ll all forget about this game by Friday.

  • BigBlueAL

Shit forgot the Giants played tonight. Saw that they won but that WR corps really scares the shit out of me. Of course if Eli struggles he will get all the blam but really who the hell is he going to throw the ball to.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

The Giants’ offense is not going to be all that good this year. I know Jacobs/Bradshaw is a good punch in the backfield, but when teams start stacking the box on them, the Giants have no deep threat to break that. The defense had better be on its toes this year.

    • JMK

Eh, I wouldn’t worry too much. It was the first preseason game. We can’t expect them to have gelled yet. Hopefully Hixon, Moss, Barden, Manningham or Nicks steps up. They have the talent. Someone should.

  • Charlie

i know its just one game, but its stupid to think this game is not important. Every game counts, the bigger the yanks division lead, the better. And the bigger their lead, the more rested their best players will be for october.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Who said this game was unimportant?

    • Salty Buggah
