Kennedy to pitch in fall league

By Benjamin Kabak

Ian Kennedy, rehabbing his way back from an arm aneurysm, spoke to reporters about his rehab plans today. The Yankees’ right-hander said that he probably won’t pitch in a Minor League game this season but will return to competitive action next month in one of the fall instructional leagues. Kennedy has been throwing his fastball and changeup during recent mound sessions, and while the AP says he will pitch in the Arizona Fall League this year, based on the eligibility requirements, Kennedy shouldn’t be able to play there. While he fits the service time requirement, he will not be off the Minor League DL 45 days prior to the end of the season. Rosters for the AzFL teams will be released soon.

Dela G says:

very happy for him

Salty Buggah says:

Still sucks we can’t have him here instead of Mitre/Gaudin. I hope Mitre can pitch like he did last time.

Bo says:

With the way he pitched last yr why is that a bad thing?

jsbrendog says:

because IPK >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mitre/gaudin based solely on upside alone and the fact that he could be oh so much better and would only possibly be marginally worse

Salty Buggah says:

I think IPK>>>>>>Mitre/Gaudin based solely on probability.

Mattingly's Love Child says:

Dude, I’ve been gone for almost 3 weeks, I come back and you’re still responding to Bo.

He was just baiting the sane/logical people who frequent this blog…

Salty Buggah says:

Because he can pitch better than Mitre and is most likely way better than how he pitched last year? Be patient, Bo.

Mattingly's Love Child says:

I have a strong dislike for Bo, so I may be biased….

But Bo is not patient. He wants everything NOW. He’d probably call Jesus injury prone if that wouldn’t get him attacked by everyone here….

What about the new Florida Winter League?

Rick in Boston says:

I believe the Florida league’s purpose is to replace the Hawaii league. IPK has pitched professionally too long to go – the league is geared for younger, less seasoned guys.

A.D. says:

Yeah figure Cotham could go there if they want more innings for him

Zack says:

He’ll get innings, he was apart of the Puerto Rican League last winter (34IP). They have them in multiple leagues that players can get innings- and theres no experience limit like the AFL

leokitty says:

I read something in an IPK update where he himself said PR so I’m guessing that’s where he’s going.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Which of our other prospects will be participating in a fall/winter league?

You’ll know when we know. The roster announcements should come down this week or next.

jsbrendog says:

plz fill hughes the starder PLZ

Can’t, too much service time.

jsbrendog says:

not in any league? at all? anywhere? but major leaguers goplaces to play

Chris says:

There’s really no benefit to having him pitch in a fall league. He almost definitely won’t go over his career high for innings, so it will only have a slight (if any) impact on his innings limit for 2010 and beyond.

jsbrendog says:

but it will if only because that high was a few seasons ago and its nto worth the risk when the option is there.

Zack says:

the argument can be made that you want to give guys <25 the offseason off to rest themselves.
but theres no right/wrong answer

Winter leagues only.

Maybe he can go play Dominican winter ball with Melky and Cano. And Joba can go too, so that he can keep making fun of Melky for flailing his arms like a little girl when he gets hit by a pitch in the back.

Mattingly's Love Child says:

You don’t want Hughes or Joba to go the Dominican league. You don’t want them to pick up those lazy habits.

He could go to the Venezuelan league.

Now that Ugueth Urbina’s doing a 14-year bid, there’s like a 85% chance that Hughes won’t be competing against any homicidal maniacs.

JMK says:

Wouldn’t Ugeth’s son possibly be there?
