Why can't Kennedy pitch in the Bronx this year? If he can pitch in the minors by September 7, why not get the call after rosters expand? He's already on the 40 man. At the very least, he could get work in, and be around the big league club.

I have to throw this out there, since every keeps saying Mitre should be put into the pen.

Sergio Mitre
Starter 5.34 ERA, 1.561 WHIP, 5.3 K/9, 1.84 K/BB, 305 IP in 57 games
Reliever 6.91 ERA, 1.674 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 1.47 K/BB, 28.2 IP in 26 games

I realize small sample size, but so far the fact in his career Mitre has been worse in bullpen as setup man than he has been as a starter.

Is it irrational for me to think he will all of a sudden be throwing low 90's next time the big League club sees him. I mean, Hughes was throwing upper 80's last year, and was at 90-93 as a starter earlier this year. Joba's velocity went from about 94+ even as a starter last year and this year is down a couple of MPH. It seems like even the velocity can improve or jump around with young pitchers. Maybe Kennedy will be pitching faster too. (I don't know what mph he was hitting this year in the minor before the injury).

I'll try to stay on topic this time around. Dang Treo Pro.

Kennedy's essentially lost a year of ML development. Its not as bad as Heredia losing 3/4 of the season since Kennedy is a near-finished product. I just hope Kennedy is able to throw incident free and then impress brass in winter ball with gaudy K number off over-the-hill Puerto Ricans.

You really have a sinking feeling about IPK don't you?

I don't think he's going to show the promise that we're seeing out of Joba/Hughes, but lets not forget the *albeit small sample* flashes of dominance he showed in the bigs in late '07.

Had he not been shut down then, Yankees might win Game 4 in Cleveland, and the IPK saga may look different.

Anyway, we're not talking Ridiculous Upside, but I'm not sure that Mitre has any upside at all, and there's definitely some left with Mr. Kennedy.
