Melancon, Albaladejo, Dunn, Cervelli, Edwar, Claggett, WDR, Shelly, and Miranda are all likely additions because they are currently on the 40-man roster. Although I think at least a guys like Dunn, WDR, and probably several others will stay in the minors until the very end of the minor league season. I think on August 1st we'll call up a few extra pitchers (Melancon, Alba, Kroenke?) and a 3rd Catcher. Beyond that I don't know if anyone else gets called up right away. Maybe Shelly.

For the guys not of the 40-man roster it will depend on how many spots we have available both this season and after the season and if that person we're adding could be taken off easily.

I think a guy like Russ Ortiz is likely. He is pitching well and we could cut him after the season to free up a 40-man roster spot to protect a rule 5 guy. Kroenke likely gets the call too because he has earned it and we'll want to see what he can do at the ML level. Russo is a possibility but I kind of doubt it because I think they'll definitely keep him down in AAA until the end of the season there and with guys like Pena and Hairston already up they won't add him to the 40-man until they have to. Beyond that I'm not sure perhaps Nova and/or Corona after AAA playoffs are done because both need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason. Other possibilities: Hirsh, Rumolo Sanchez, Kevin Whelan

<i>"for the 100th time, the budgets are completely and utterly separate. Seriously, how many times does this have to be said by the yankees for people to actually allow this through their heads?"</i>

You know... I hear where you're coming from, I know the Yankees have said the budgets are all separate and all that... But puh-leeze, don't be so condescending about it, you have NO idea what the budgets being separate actually means in practice. Do you KNOW that if the Yankees save money in one area they won't then allocate that money to another area? No, I'm going to venture a guess that you don't have any idea that's the case. The budgets are separate? Fantastic. That doesn't mean the budgets are <i>static</i>. In the end it's all one entity's (the Yankees') money. If they save in one area you have NO IDEA that they won't allocate those savings to other areas.

Sorry. I'm just a little tired of people acting like they're Brian Cashman's right-hand man and know every little detail of how the Yankees view and allocate their finances. None of us are in that position, and none of us can act like we're such an authority on how the Yankees will allocate their resources. It's patronizing and presumptuous.

/End rant.

You don't worry about fitting drafted players into the system when you are looking at who to sign. You sign who you feel is going to be a valuable player and then you deal with it later. You will never see a team turn away pitchers because they have "too many". there is no such thing as having too many prospects of any position.
