Game 155 Spillover Thread

Dice-K’s got the highwire act working again.

Categories : Game Threads

  1. Zack says:

    he’ll break sooner or later

  2. MikeD says:

So is that a caught stealing, or an out on obstruction?

    • JMK says:

      The latter.

      • MikeD says:

Ahh, good. Would hate to see Tex’s amazing string of not getting thrown out since 2004 end that way. Uhh, never mind that it’s only been ten or so stolen bases! (Don’t ask my how I know such a pointless stat.)

  3. Pete Abe just jizzed in his pants, and I just vomited in my mouth a little bit.

  4. Dice-K’s got the highwire act working again.

Actually, getting outs via batter interference is all part of the gameplan. Just like how he drew it up.

  5. A-Rod flipping of the cameras. Nice.

  6. Tank the Frank says:

This is great. I want people to look at Dice-K’s final line and think that he pitched well. It’ll give Red Sox fans a nice false sense of security going into the postseason.

  7. MikeD says:

Note to RAB: Can we have an ad of a woman getting ripped in 4 weeks?

  8. McCarver [on Pedroia]: “Trying to muscle up, and… unsuccessful.”
Theoretical Josh Lewin: “Nickel for every time he’s had that problem…

  9. Salty Buggah says:

    Yea, he has lucked out.

  10. JMK says:

    C’mon CC. Strikes.

  11. Victor Martinez is the first Venezuelan player to have extended his hit streak to 24 games on the same day he wore a brand new pair of underpants while playing for his second team in a particular season and batting against Joba Chamberlain.

::shoots self in head with imaginary finger-gun::

  12. JMK says:

I think I’d rather have Flava Flav and Paris Hilton call the game than these two.

  13. Salty Buggah says:

That was close. Perfecto gone…cmon ZZ, one mo out.

  14. JMK says:

That walk wouldn’t have happened if V-Tek were calling the game…

  15. Jose says:

I can hear Michael Kay in my head shouting “There goes the perfect game”. “No hitter still intact”.

  16. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    nice play derek

  17. Riddering says:

  18. Salty Buggah says:

    Nice Jeter and CC

  19. Tom Zig says:

    Runs please…k thanks

  20. Jersey says:

Got a good feeling about this inning.

  21. 007 says:

reply to steve (different one) says:
    September 26th, 2009 at 4:55 pm

so your saying ok they have similar numbers.. ok
but then why would someone with similar numbers to the other guy get to play everyday? think about it that way! also Gardner is a better defensive CF and when he gets on base he can steal. so that is advantage Gardner. i am not saying melky should never play, but his playing time does need to be cut down, and maybe this will light a fire under him and he will turn it up a bit. i have been and will continue to give melky chances, but i think now its time to see what brett can do full time since no one knows what will happen.

  22. Salty Buggah says:

Please Mo, can I have some runs this inning.

  23. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

I had a feeling that was gonna happen.

  24. Salty Buggah says:

    HAHAHA! Ellsbury!

  25. MikeD says:

    Cool. No Jeter they be.

  26. Tampa Yankee says:

  27. Riddering says:

    I love this defense.

  28. Jose says:

The Red Sox have baseball fundamentals down. No mental mistakes ever.

  29. JMK says:

    Matsui steals home. Book it.

  30. Salty Buggah says:

    This will make Dice-BB unravel.

  31. The Angels will beat the Sox in the ALDS. Book it.

  32. Riddering says:

Are the Yankees the only playoff team without an inspirational MLB commercial?

They should do one in the style of Richie Rich. :p

  33. Nathan says:

So the called strike and ball 4 were at the same location, how does that work?

  34. Salty Buggah says:

Cmon Melky, show us you are the man.

  35. Mike Axisa says:

    Countdown to PeteAbe’s “Cano can’t hit with RISP” update … 3 … 2 …

  36. Salty Buggah says:

I know why some people (at least in Colorado)think baseball is boring. They must watch the NL, which are the games usually broadcasted here. Im going to fall asleep watching the Cubs and Giants.

  37. JMK says:

When Melky runs it looks like he pooped his pants and is awkwardly sprinting to the nearest bathroom.

  38. Alex S says:

how many ab’s is molina gonna get with RISP?

  39. Mike Axisa says:

Well, at least Molina hit the ball to the outfield twice today…

  40. Salty Buggah says:

Damnit, letting Dice-K off the hook again.

  41. Tom Zig says:

Anyone still think Molina should start in the postseason?

  42. dan says:

Can’t keep letting him off the hook

  43. Riddering says:

    I want Cervelli.

  45. JMK says:

I wonder if the Ghost of Alex Gonzalez hangs out with the Ghost of Kei Igawa.

  46. Salty Buggah says:

    Damn, no-no no mo.

    Get a DP, CC.

  47. MikeD says:

In this case, McCarver is right.

  48. JMK says:

I’m surprised Fox didn’t call that a bunt attempt by Ortiz. They’re that dumb.

  49. Zack says:

    um, thanks ump

  50. Salty Buggah says:

    Suck it Papi

  51. MikeD says:

Hmmm, Molina with the hidden sound device.

  52. The click was his wrist.

  53. acb says:

i wish that was pedroia he would have gone nuts and got thrown out

  54. Dude… There was a sound… But come on, Kellogg, the ball clearly didn’t hit his bat. Embarrassing.

  55. Where the fuck was that?

  56. JMK says:

    African clickspeak while Papi bats?

  57. Salty Buggah says:

    Lowell stole second? Whateva

  58. acb says:

molina should of jumped up and bumped into him

  59. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    where the hell was that.

  60. JMK says:

Lowell just stole a base? Is it 2012 already? Also, I think the ump was hanging out with David Wells before the game.

  61. Zack says:

so why was that SB but Guzman’s last year fielder’s indifference?

    • Zack says:

      last night

    • It’s a judgment call. Last night they made the call that the Sox had no interest in making an attempt to throw-out Guzman, they allowed him to take the base. The Yankees surely would have made an attempt to throw out Mike Lowell, in a 0-0 game, he just got a good jump and was lucky enough to have chosen a good pitch to run on. I have no problem at all with that scoring decision.

      • Zack says:

I didnt have a problem with it, i just dont understand the rule.

        • Based on the play on the field and the context (players involved, score, inning, etc.), it is in the official scorer’s discretion to decide that the defending team had no interest in throwing out the baserunner, and thus the base was not “stolen” but was taken thanks to “defensive indifference.” For example, if Rickey Henderson is on first base with his team losing 20-0 and the infield plays back and he leisurely strolls down to second base without so much as a flinch from the catcher and middle infielders, it’s safe to assume he took the base due to defensive indifference.

  62. Salty Buggah says:

Ball 1 to Jed was a strike on gameday!!!!

    But CC K’s him anyway…awesome!

  63. And Lowrie argues balls and strikes, of course.

I’m loathe to pile on to the usual Sox paranoia/hatred, but I seriously don’t think I’ve ever seen a team that argues balls and strikes as much as this team does.

  64. Tom Zig says:

    Runz plz

  65. bonestock94 says:

Did anyone else really enjoy the interaction between the ump and big sloppy? Very funny to me, even if the ump might be on acid.

  66. Zack says:

Tim, dont kid yourself, nobody questions the Red Sox about anything

  67. Jimmy Graham wants to get bitchslapped. He’s beggin for it.

  68. JMK says:

Mike Lowell will be featured on a Just For Men commercial when he retires next year.

  69. Tom Zig says:

now would be a good time for Johnny to break out of his lack of HR streak

  70. Salty Buggah says:

Let’s make baserunners count this inning guys…no bad luck or DPs.

  71. Nels says:

    Dear Tim M.

Ichrio joined the majors in 2001.

  72. MikeD says:

Oh, come on. Lupica is an idiot, and his idiotic remarks are being inforced by another idiot, McCarver. This is not 1975 where fans are held captive to the game of the week. If you’re a baseball fan, you’ve seen plenty of Ichiro.

  73. Tom Zig says:

    making matsuzaka work. Good

  74. leokitty says:

Tim McCarver is so so so so SO bad

  75. Salty Buggah says:

Strike 2 to Damon was a ball on Gameday but Damon walks anyway.

    OK, guys, dont blow it.

  76. Jose says:

    Lewin: “He got ejected.”
    McCarver: “Ohhh, good going.”

New fact: a player getting ejected during a game is a good thing. It must have some kind of rallying effect.

  77. Riddering says:

Robbie Thomson is clearly yearning to signal the runners home. Poor guy.

  78. Mike Axisa says:

Please take the first pitch, Alex. He just walked the last two guys.

  79. Salty Buggah says:

Cmon A-rod, gotta bring home a run this time. Pad those RBIs.

  80. MikeD says:

McCarver: This is a masterful performance by Dice-K. Building up the Yankees hopes only to keep dashing them.

  81. Tom Zig says:

  82. whozat says:

  83. Salty Buggah says:

    Damn! no DP Hideki

  84. Tom Zig says:

    wow guys really?

  85. whozat says:

  86. JMK says:

    Wtf RISP!

  87. dkidd says:

    mauer-esque play

    boos? really?

  88. Alex S says:

Dice-K is trash! hit him already!

  89. Mike Axisa says:

Awful. These last two at-bats were just awful.

  90. Jersey says:

Oh come, take a goddamn pitch there fellas.

  91. Salty Buggah says:

Are you kidding me? Luck on Sox side today

  92. whozat says:

Walks two guys, and you chumps swing at the FIRST TWO PITCHES?!?!?!?!?!

  93. dkidd says:

    rbi walk right here

  94. Tom Zig says:

    0-10 with RISP? holy smokes

  95. JMK says:

    What a dreadful inning.

  96. whozat says:

    terrible. Just terrible.

  97. Mike Axisa says:

    Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

  98. Salty Buggah says:

    fuck it! luckin out

    • Zack says:

its not luck when 2 guys swing at the first pitch after 2 straight walks

      • MikeD says:

Yeah, what’s that about. Dice-K is pitching behind all day and they start swinging at the first pitch with the based loaded?

        • Zack says:

i guess you can think- ok he’s going to need to throw a strike so hes going to force one in there. but still those were 2 bad at bats, what makes it even worse was that it was by two great hitters, not like a melky/hairston combo

      • Salty Buggah says:

true but to get out so many jams is luck, no matter how bad the other team is playing.

      • Salty Buggah says:

It’s OK. We’re giving them false hope. And we’re saving our RISP hits for the playoffs. CC will win today!

  99. Mike Pop says:

  100. Alex S says:

what the fuck was that? awful, and dice-k is not a magician he is just a lucky bastard

  101. Riddering says:

Joygasm a little louder, FOX booth.

  102. Well that was pretty awful. I’d say “at least we’ll be in their bullpen soon” but it shouldn’t even matter today, Dice-K has been garbage anyway.

Alright. 0-0 with CC rolling. Let’s get him a W here.

  103. Brazilian Yankee says:

Dice-K gave up 2 walks to load the bases and the next 2 Yankee batters swing at the first pitch. That’s just dumb.

  104. Adam says:

wow that might have been the worst inning i’ve seen all year, pathetic

  105. Accent Shallow says:

I left my car with the bases loaded and no out. I turn on the TV to two outs and Nick Swisher at the plate.

  106. tony from the bronx says:

This is still what scares me about Yanks.Patient, and then not

  107. Jeremy says:

Whatever. We’re going to win anyway.

  108. nathan says:

And ESPN and Kruk are already printing a story on DoorMat’s 3 rd straight start…err 3rd straight dominating start..

  109. Evan says:

There’s been little to complain about the offense this year but I’m just amazed at how bad they’ve been with the bases loaded.

  110. JMK says:

Wrong. This is a meaningless game.

  111. Tom Zig says:

    Walking the #9 hitter? Really?

  112. Joe D. says:

Fellas, fellas, fellas…(and ladies)…do you always get this riled up about exhibition games ’round these parts? This is fun. In fact, in the big picture, a 6-7 IP, 0ER performance by Dice-K could be a very good thing for the Yankees. Looks like the Yanks are on board with me, too. We want to solidify Matsuzaka’s postseason starter status. So far, mission accomplished. :)

  113. JMK says:

Did you see that obese guy covering up on the Lowell catch? Hilarious.

  114. Riddering says:

CC wants his damn run support.

    And a burger.

    But first: run support!

  115. JMK says:

He was already in the process of throwing when time was called.

  116. DreDog says:

If Jorge started this game, the score is 7-5 in favor of the Yankees.

  117. Jamal G. says:

Dice-K hasn’t given up a hit with the bases loaded since Sept. 8, 2007; that is all.

  118. Salty Buggah says:

  119. Tom Zig says:

    Jeter is good at DP

  120. MikeD says:

Mike Sweeney hit 50 doubles last year and this season he has no job? I don’t even have to look that up to know it’s not true.

  121. Accent Shallow says:

Sometimes being a low-strikeout hitter comes back to bite you.

  122. Riddering says:

Jeter says: this ain’t the WBC no more, shorty!

  123. jojo says:

cano is leading off this inning. we know he’ll get a hit since no runners will be on.

unfortunately either melky or molina will erase him with a dp.

  124. Alright, damnit, let’s get some runs to allow Joe to lift CC after that 6th inning guilt-free.

  125. Tom Zig says:

Nice that CC has less pitches thrown than Dice-K and has thrown an extra inning and has 8 Ks and 2 BBs

  126. Nels says:

Dice-K’s start today reminds me a lot of Junichi Tazawa’s start last month against the Yanks.

  127. pete says:

we need to score more points, so that we can win the match.

  128. acb says:

mike sweeney hit 8 doubles last year while only striking out 6 times!!!

  129. Salty Buggah says:

    I hate Fox games…score offense!

  130. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    seeeeee yaaaaaaaaaaaa

  131. Accent Shallow says:

Robbie Cano is a good hitter.

  132. Lefty says:

    my man Cano

  133. Zack says:

    cano baby

  134. Riddering says:

Cano doesn’t need to hit with RISP.

  135. Jersey says:

    Robbie Cano! Dontcha know!

  136. Mike Pop says:

    There’s Robbie!

  137. Salty Buggah says:

I totally called that HR, except I thought it would a liner to right.

  138. Riddering says:

Nothing more hilarious than old man humor.

  139. acb says:

melky should havea 3-0 count rightg now

  140. The Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Cano leading off=………greatest hitter of all time?

  141. Zack says:

molina, you’re job is to stand there, dont swing, and let dicek throw 5 pitches to strike you out

  142. Tom Zig says:

Jose Molina has seen a grand total of 5 pitches this game

  143. Mouch "Half Man Half Couch" says:

Molina is excellent at defense and just horrid with a bat in his hand. He really looks like he does not have a clue up there and looks completely over matched.

  144. Salty Buggah says:

    Molina is atrocious.

  145. kunaldo says:

according to mccarver, the 2001 world series was delayed b/c of an emergency 911 call

    that is ridiculous, sir.

  146. goon says:

time to eat bean pedroia in the head

  147. Nigel Incubator-Jones says:

I don’t get the game, but you might not be surprised to know that, according to game day, this umpire is really, really bad. Both teams, both strikes and balls.
