me = annoyed.
anyone still clamoring for molina to get playoff starts after watching his masterful at-bats this week is insane and should be committed to a mental hospital.
yeah but the whole staff hates pitching to posada, and i mean the WHOLE staff- veterans, rookies, even mitre doesnt like poasda.
Even Swisher.
Nick Swisher once made Jorge smile.
Jorge then killed Swisher’s dog.
no, people misinterpreted swisher’s comments. It’s not that he doesn’t like pitching to Posada specifically as much as he just prefers to be his own catcher, bugs bunny-style
Laura hates his guts. His kids run away a few times a month. The IRS doesn’t even send him forms, because they don’t want to deal with his bullshit excuses about his deductions.
And it would be all soaked in urine.
but he’s calling a 1-hitter!
Put it this way. If the Yankees don’t win the world series this year, it will NOT be because Molina didn’t start some games.
Molina is a good-fielding, no-hit catcher, a role that Cervelli can fill, and offer the potential to hit better, and do it for the MLB minimum.
Unfortunately, that won’t happen until next season. Molina will be on the playoff roster and Franco will not.
Cervelli shouldn’t start playoff games either.
12 baserunners off Matsuzaka and only 1 run? wow
0-11 risp.
He’s a magician.
/wrongmetaphor’d
I mean I guess you can say he is houdini. but that would be implying that Houdini wasn’t good at his craft
Maybe they were thinking of David Blaine.
Or Criss Angel!
Gob Bluth.
I can has bullpen please?
after this inning because he facing they’re better hitters
(grumbles)
Because of the sentiment or the grammar?
The sentiment.
my bad…I have no idea how that happened
It wasn’t the typo. I’m just grumbling because you’re right, but I want to do it anyway. I’m stubborn.
Well, I wanted him to come out by 90 pitches too but whatever, CC is a beast.
I know he’s a beast.
Rest him anyway.
*their
WTF! This is the 2nd time in a week!!!
:embarrased:
sorry, missed your “my bad”.
multifail
Damon has a .664 OPS in September (not including today)
Different era.
if he wants to suck in September but be a monster in October, i’m cool with that
He come the tears.
HeHere comes the tears.Fixed.
HOLY SMOKES. Double Fail.
the crowd is gonna get CC ejected
because?
they cheer vociferously every time a redsock gets hit
it makes it seem intentional
I doubt the umpires use fan reaction to make their decisions.
(thinks of the Red Sox-Angels game)
Wait, maybe you’re right.
love it
I love those kind of baserunners.
Wow. Didn’t think he had a chance at that.
cc like a cat
them’s some wheels there lowell
HOW DID LOWELL STEAL A BASE?
Ran on ephus(sp?) pitch by CC.
To be injuried.
/McCarver’d
gotta love CC’s intensity
nah, that personality belongs in the bullpen.
Injuried?
Sabathia is such a horse.
He can walk alone back to the dug out.
Ortiz never walks alone, huh? He’s always got people around him because they love being next to his sunny personality?
Maybe a few of those people always around him can ask him when the fuck he’s gonna answer our questions about his hypocrisy about the steroids issue…
vitamins man!!
Dude, it’s “bitamins”
lol my fault
Hughes then Mo?
Runs, then IPK, then runs, then Bruney
CC’s barely warmed up – only 96 pitches.
Don’t make TSJC grumble. You won’t like him when he grumbles.
I am gonna straight up MURDER YOUR ASS!!!
CC!!!!
Remember earlier in the year when people said CC wasn’t an ace? Just a good, innings eating number two?
Yeah…
We all know Moen Faucet Carmona was the true ace of the Indians.
what you call this an ACE oUting?!
prolly gone after 7 inings against the SUX? he cant even get to the 8th?! and talk about not firing up your offense…they are just laying down…i true ace can pump his team up
and thats not even talking about his postseason issues…ace yeah right
Hopefully his last start will be 5 more innings of shutout ball, that ERA will look really good!
Did anyone with half a brain actually say that?
Let me guess, these same people think Beckett is an ace, right?
/chortle
Want to have some ‘fun’? Read this:

MLBTR commenters are semi-literate subhumans
Another great outing by the one not as good as Johan.
Uh, oh. I’m supposed to be somewhere at 7:00 before heading to dinner. I need excuses for her for what will no doubt end up being an hour late!
You’re watching the Yankee game?
That honesty thing. Works sometimes, other times not.
“Damn traffic” always works for me.
http://www.theonion.com/conten.....le1446.jpg
I’ll start my drive and hopefully I can listen Mariano close it out and only by 15 minutes late. If the game gets tied, I’ll have to go to plan B, which will be formulated during the drive!
Please don’t let Matsuzaka complete this inning.
What the shit, Tex.
Uhh, Wagner was involved in the Yankee-Met rilvary. I think he’s had a taste of similar.
damn, I didnt want another K for Dice-BB
Give Dice-K some credit? For what? He’s pitched against two sub-par offenses, and this game he should have given up quite a few runs.
There you go, TSJC.
CC out.
IT’S ABOUT F$#&ING TIME!!!!!!
(I’m calm, I’m calm.)
wow thats a horrible clause for farrell
Working for the Sox makes it all worth it. I hear he does it for free because of the love for the organization.
3-1. Crush this shit big guy.
NO. Not like that.
Is it ok to refer to Dice-K as Douche-K?
If you’re in the ninth grade, sure!
I don’t know if any of you guys saw this or remember this, but throughout 2007 and 2008, when an ESPN co-worker (whether it be by a BBTN host or SC host) asked Peter Gammons, “Who is going to be manning shortsop for the Red Sox this year and the years to come?” Peter Gammons would always say, “Well, the Red Sox have this young shortsop they drafted out of college that goes by the name of Jed Lowrie, and according to scouts all around baseball they say he’s got some of the best all around hands in all of the minors, and has a bat that will develop into one of the better shortsop bats in the majors in the sometime near future, which is part of the reason that they were willing to throw in Hanley Ramirez in the deal for Beckett the same offseason that they drafted Lowrie”… Then, after the 2008 ALCS Series loss to Tampa Bay, when asked, what went wrong for the Red Sox… Peter Gammons went on to reply, “(after talking about how the Rays pitching outmatched the Sawx’ and the Rays’ timely hitting, he went on to say), Also, top prospect Jed Lowie was not his usual self at the plate after his wrist injury that had sidelined him for a while”… Later on in the interview, he was asked about the Sawx’ 2009 season outlook, he replied “(of course, after talking about their rotation with the potential of being one of the deepest and all around greatest rotations with Beckett, Lester, Dice-K, and Wakefield already booked for ’09, and their incredibly deep and potent lineup he went on to ramble about Lowrie once again… ), stating that next year (2009) without even making any moves, the Sawx lineup would already be that much deeper with the addition of a full season of a healthy Jed Lowrie at shortstop to just make all the other organizations in baseball in even more awe of the Sawx farm system the past few years with Ellsbury, Lester, Youk, Papelbon, and now Lowrie who has the potential to be one of the best of that group, if not the best…
Ummmmmm……. Yea…… About that…. How is that .155 Avg. working for ya’ Petie?
Dude. Use the ‘Enter’ key every once in a while, mmmkay?
Can you at least break up that pointless babble into more bit-sized pieces? Many thanks.
Wow, it was a little long for a game thread, but wasn’t without merit.
but its unreadable
lol… I know it’s a pointless babble, it’s just that as I was watching the game, that memory creeped into my head, so I thought I’d share that with you guys… and I din’t want to break it up because I didn’t want to lose my train of thought… lol… I get easily distracted (as you can tell by how my head just wandered into this pointless babble lol)
Hey, but they made your point even better by using Kotchman to pinch hit for him.
I read all of this.
You’re brave.
sorry about that. lol. you can tell I have just a tiny tiny case of ADHD. lol
and c’mon TJSC. YOU KNOW you read all of it too
Not a word. I see a huge block of text with no paragraph breaks, I instantly skip it.
too many words…can’t read
What’s you’re actual point here? Lowrie has barely played this year due to that injured wrist…maybe he’ll still be good, maybe he won’t….
Agree with Whitey here. People jump to conclusions quick, we preach patience with our prospects, we should give the same benefit to the Sox and their fans. Even though their fans, Whitey included, have trouble remembering to shower, brush their teeth, and wipe when supposed to.
I remember many jumping on Buchholz when he struggled this year, look at him now, the dude has pitched as good as anybody. Except CC !
Yea, but look up who he’s pitched against… Of his 7 wins, only 1 has been against a team over .500, and that was a Tampa Bay team that has been fading horribly, which was when he got the win against them, was right when they were starting to fade horribly…
Lefty, do you get upset when one of your pitchers beats a poor team? Doubtful, as they’re supposed to beat those teams and doing so, especially for a younger pitcher, helps build confidence. How many wins does CC have against poor teams and should those wins count any less towards his 19?
Damn Mike! I shower once a week, whether I need it or not!
dead on, Lefty, and don’t pay any mind to those simple minds who can’t cope with your stream-of-consciousness.
haha… Thanks
What up Lefty…aka NYfinest
Just getting in. Did I miss anything?
Yeah. Dice-K is a magician. Yanks have not hit with RISP. CC did just okay (1-hitter) and Victor Martinez has a hitting streak that he started as a toddler. Oh, and the ump does acid, at least according to one poster.
Do you write for “Cliff Notes”?
Never met the man.
I have.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_Hillegass
That’s awesome, TSJC. What was he like? Quick side note: I went to Nebraska once. I will never return. I’m sorry you had to endure that place as a kid.
He was cool. Just an old businessman, talking about having the courage to start out on your own, patience to see your enterprise through, all that standard rubber chicken circuit boilerplate jazz.
You’ve probably heard a similar speech from someone before, I’m sure.
(And no, he wasn’t long-winded.)
http://www.instantrimshot.com
So just another day at the park, then.
I am incredibly displeased with how this offense at the moment.
weak…1st 1-2-3 inning
WHOA.
Hughes? After that load he pitched last night? Girardi’s gone mad!
tex earning his paycheck
I love seeing Tex run
Nice D there.
Gold glove for big Tex?
So, Tim, you’re saying the reason that Mark Teixeira is a better defensive first baseman than Kevin Youkilis is because Youk is penalized for playing third base?
:: head explodes ::
So, Tim, you said…
:: pre-emptive head explosion so I don’t have to listen ::
That.
RAB guys: Game’s on Fox today, so we get to enjoy McCarver/Buck
whozat: ::preemptive head explosion so I can’t even be told about commentary made by the dream-team of suck::
Are we going to see a Mitre/Edwar save attempt?
(Nah, they’re just up in case the Yankees put up a six-spot in the 8th, right?)
Susyn just said Mitre is warming? What?!
What could be more demoralizing than Mitre becoming a lock-down closer?
I’d be really skeptical of that happening, since his secondary pitches just aren’t that good.
But yeah, argh.
You know I was being facetious, right?
Hey, you know how it is.
Sarcasm, internet, etc etc
I hope he doesn’t start on his new career as a closer until after the postseason.
huh? why are those 2 warming up?
Hughes’ cutter is effing nasty.
Boston has no weaknesses. The pinch hitters coming off their bench are second to none!
sure Kotchman hasnt hit a lick since the trade, but his defense is underrated.
/gammons
and Adam LaRoche has been on fiya! But, he wouldn’t put up that kind of production in Boston considering his limited playing time. Well, maybe they’d sit Lowell in favor of LaRoche at 1st?
I no know.
I dont get he limited playing time argument. Stop playing Tek more than once a week and its not an issue:
Youk at 3B, Vmart at C, LaRoche at 1B, Lowell/Ortiz at DH
that
Josh Reddick looks 7.
Josh Reddick for Greinke is in the works.
Susyn: “Reddick looks like Huckleberry Finn.”
Sterling: “I was just about to say that!”
Phil Hughes is ludicrous.
YES HUGHES!
Yay Phil.
Phil Hughes. McNasty.
That was a cutter on the foul tip K, right? Gameday says slider, but I’m thinking it was just a really sharp cutter.
runs plz
Wagner, this should be fun.
What did he say? There’s never been a 1-0 game? Didn’t A-Rod hit a walk-off 1-0 against the Sox, or was there someone on?
it was a 2 run hr
2-0
I can’t listen to these guys ever. Michael Kay is annoying but he usually knows what he’s talking about.
It was 2-0 in 15 innings.
I really thought Cervelli would be catching today; I truly respect Molina’s defensive skills–Martinez and Crapitek combined cannot equal him–but when he’s in the lineup you might as well let the pitcher hit 9th. Especially if it’s CC. But I guess it’s politics: Girardi doesn’t want to show up his backup C by playing the rookie in an important game against the Sux. If you’re willing to live with the lack of production that decision carries with it, well, then…
How in heaven’s name do you swing at the first pitch, A-Rod and Matsui, when Dice-K has walked the previous 2 hitters to load the bases? If Billy Martin were still around he’d fine them both and deservedly so.
This game should be at least 6-0, instead the Yankee hitters have made Dice-K look good by not hitting in the clutch. (Thank goodness for Robbie’s HR.) Jeez…
I was going to use this as a pro DH bit about how CC’s OPS+ is worse that Molina’s.
I was wrong
Sabathia – 72 = really bad
Molina – 60 = really, really bad.
I actually agree with FOX on something.
Who’s the moron in the booth with McCarver? He’s even more of an idiot than Buck. Somehow.
I think its Matt Vasgersian, he apparently forgot that 2000 is part of this decade.
Yanks win it 2009 and that would make it 2 Championships and 4 Pennants in the 2000s. We finish the decade with a World Title and chalk up another decade to the Yankees.
RUN GARDNER RUN
Dave Roberts was a pinch runner, not the batter correct?
Correct.
Story on Matt Carson’s first career home-run ball.
http://deadspin.com/5368268/ro.....for-ransom
People are assholes.
That story goes differently if it’s Matt FUCKING Bush.
so is it mandatory to tell the story of the 2004 Red Sox 7 times a game?
ugh
Who is this ass announcing the game? I dont mean McCarver, the other ass.
Josh Lewin
what does this graphic have to deal with anything?
Cano saw Gardner at second at continued to go into the fetal position.
and*
Damn, Sterling almost made me get excited on a Swisher HR like 5 mins ago.
ditto
Steal home!
That’s the only way he scores with Melky and Molina up…
Now that was “Gritty”
Nice Brett, now steal home. I sure hope Girardi pinch hits for Molina if Melky doesn’t get the run in.
Gardner just ran himself onto the postseason roster?
i hate national broadcasts. there was a 0% chance gardner would be left off the roster
Ow.
hah, there go the great Red Sox catchers… against a stationary Yankee team that doesn’t steal bases…
at least it was on the hip, not the elbow
Unintentional, but that looked painful. We’re lucky Melky is a bit doughy.
Haha…dont get a DP Molina
Steal home Gardy or suicide bunt!
The Red Sox better hope and pray that tomorrow nights game does not get out of hand and Joe puts in Melancon.
what the shit is this
Joe’s getting cute.
No Posada here?
Exactly! WTF??!!!
He has a sore neck. I totally forgot.
Eh… Wagner you’re going to have to do better than that… My man Melky eats those…
why is jose molina hitting for himself
steal home gardner
Why are we not pinch hitting again?
Molina is hitting?
I posted way above.
CC career OPS+ = 72
Molina career OPS+ = 60
/now out of context, looks a little silly.
Oh really? He’s tagged?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
This Sox team has no weaknesses. NONE.
Heady team. Awesome defense, too.
Was there ever any doubt about it?
HAHA! Boston FAIL!
What just happened?
That was weird.
EPIC FAILURE BY THE SAWX !!!
I love me some Gardner.
although he ended up being safe… dammit Gardner! wtf are you doing? If you’re going to attempt to take home you can’t f-in hesitate like that!
Agreed. That was almost Justin Christian-like.
that reminds me of when JC fell down while trying to steal
lol… you’re not alone… I was starting to get flashbacks…
nice try with the phantom tag
I would have called him out anyway.
Sincerely,
Marty Foster
he doesn’t have to tag him… as long as the ball gets there first…
What happened?
atleast molina can GIDP now?
he’ll try though
Molina is plain useless. Why Cervelli isnt up to lay down the bunt is beyond me.
Hey, he has the last home run at old Yankee stadium!
That and a metro card gets you on the subway.
that’s going to be a trivia question for the next 50 years
Well he gets the honor of being remembered for that and the least talented of the 3 Molinas.
I walked out of the room, what happened?
Why does Wagner hate Molina’s back foot so much?
Wagner is pulling a K-Rod vs. Mo.
Keep throwing that shit it the dirt.
so happy we didnt trade for wagner
Wow, Wagner sucks! You cant walk Molina when he’s trying to bunt!
But he turns it into a 6 inning game!!!!
GOOD EYE, Jose. Let’s go JETES
Dude, now Jeter is just going to GIDP on the first pitch…
Keep those happy thoughts coming.
Q: What’s the only thing more embarrassing than failing to get Gardner in that rundown?
A: Walking Jose Molina.
whats with Mets closers and former closers walking people who are incapable of being walked
What about walking Mariano Rivera to force in a run?
Non-Mets Division
Walking Jose Molina when he was trying to freakin bunt! That’s worse
Awesome, TSJC! Ha!
I can usually think of a reason for a move or non-move, but I can’t think of one valid reason to not pinch hit there.
He walked, but still.
Cuz Joe just doesn’t care about this game enough to get off the bench?
He’s probably got those glasses on where it looks like your eyes are open, but you’re actually sleeping.
I’ll accept that.
Penny ,Smoltz, Baldelli, Wagner…..Theo IS a genius
Ball.
and Wagner is just making his case that he is what was going to bring this team over the hump, just by adding his presence, let alone being the dominant lefty that he is…
He’s still got that old Mets magic dust on him.
Give me a break, in his short time with Boston he has been effective.
Above all, he will net the Sawx 2 draft picks. That really p*sses me off.
Mike is correct…again…WTF is going on tonight Mike? We continue to agree and they’ll ban you for aidin’ and abettin’
Come on Jete
Closer of the future!
He is from the space age!
Please bring in Bard.
Cant locate the slider.
damn jeter
Damn Jetes.
but that fastball worked.
Damnit Jeter
Wow, no one is buying the slider from Wagner at all.
I would argue that Wagner didn’t throw a strike that entire at-bat.
FINALLYYYYY
JD!
Johnny D’s in the house.
DAMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful
Plus, if it stays like this we can give Mo a save opportunity.
Or Mitre. Money!
Screw the Save – Let’s score some more runs!
Jonny gets some.
WHOOOOOOOOOO.
damon always gets the job done
It’s even sweeter when he does it to the Sawx ’cause they let him walk.
Ah, I see. Girardi knew Molina would walk, Jeter would K, and JD would get a hit. Makes sense now.
Welcome back Mr. Bard! We’ve been expecting you.
Dun dun dun.
we can always count on Billy Bad ass
he’s got to sift fastball here… no way he is throwing anything else
he’s got to sift fastball here… no way he is throwing anything else
I hope Tex breaks Bard again
i feel more comfortable with a 3 run led than a 4 run lead.
GRIT BEARD!
Bard can’t be dumb enough to throw Tex another slider, can he?
He throws harder and with far less movement. The reincarnation of Farnsworth.
Exactly.
McCarver: “Baseball is one of those quirky games where a hitter can send it out much slower than it came in and be successful.”
Pssst, Tim: How often in sports do “hitters” even “send out” balls that “came in” in the first place? Nevermind whether your comment is accurate or not: How many sports does this apply to? Baseball, cricket, and jai-alai?
There aren’t hitters who send out balls that come into them in basketball, football, soccer, hockey, etc… what the hell are you babbling about?
I’m sure McCarver would do an excellent job calling the Quidditch Cup.
Mitre for the save please.
sorry about that guys… My computer was acting up… which led to a late post AND multiple posts…. It’s acting up as we speak… My apologies…
Get the Billy Martin pick ready
Actually, they’ll be going with Tuck Stainback for #1
http://www.yankeenumbers.com/p.....=%3D%2C%2C
. . and if there ever was a Yankee with the name of a Gay porn star, he’s it.
Wow. Nice find, artist. I’m sure Hideki already has his clips.
Get the
Billy MartinBobby Murcer pick readyFixed.
wouldn’t you want to put melky in left and leave swish in at right?
Melky’s arm is potentially more useful in RF?
Mo works too. Pad those save stats Mo-money.
I’m always nervous when Mo faces the BoSox. They’ve just seen him too damn many times. Let’s go Mo. Shut them down.
Here’s the good news: He’s facing Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Martinez. Only one of those three guys can actually hit a 95 mph fastball.
It’s ok. He’s not human.
I was more worried when the likes of Kevin Millar and Bill Mueller were in the lineup. For some reason Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia just don’t cause the same level of anxiety.
1 down!
Absorbed by RIvera? What is he, the blob?
+84
Flubber FTW.
Man, I haven’t seen that Carl Everett-Mike Mussina clip in a dinosaur’s age!
HAHAHA
2 down!
They’re KILLING ME with these flashback clips.
/Costanza’d
Way to go Mo. One more.
I remember that Mussina game. Damn Carl Everett.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if the yankees win the WS the year before Moose comes to the Yankees and the year after Moose leaves the yankees?
That would be ok by me.
/Mattingly’d
Man, I think that cutter right there had more movement than most peoples’ sliders… Just downright disgusting…
Damn, 1-hitter gone.
Squirrel Beard will be the last out.
OR, HE WILL GET HIT LIKE A BITCH!!!!!!
k…so, we just decided to hand them a few bases. Ok.
for whoever was asking earlier… THAT is the difference between an uncontested SB and a defensive indifference…
c’mon Mo, throw him a 2-seamer inside…
come on mo!
HBP on Youkilis?
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Throw your batting glove, Youk!
oops… lol…
REPLY FAIL
Strike this fucker out.
Mo’s been hanging around that punk Joba too much.
/media’d
Why is it that I always crack up everytime we hit Youkilis?
Because you’re a cruel, sick, twisted human being.
I knew there was something I liked about you.
Officially nervous
game officially over
Officially insane.
Some people need that 100th win to calm down. Most fans figure it out sooner.
Magic Number = 1
I love Mariano.
WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yankees win
Uno, bitches.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!
Mo just wanted to get to Youk so he could plunk him.
sweep tomorrow… that would truly be great…
steaks and blow jobs and TSJC is paying for it!
ietcvm
These Red Sox just can’t compete with the Varsity.
but…but…no weaknesses!1111
But … but … the Red Sox are the most “dolled up” for the playoffs.
like a fat chick in a moo-moo
rofl
That’s not fair.
Hot.
Hey i put a link of that pic the other day
Yeah, it was too good to pass up.
Excellent choice, I miss Bobby.
Despite CC’s masterful performance, I didn’t think the Yankees deserved to win this one after the LOUSY non-hitting w/RISP, but once the Sux blew the Gardner play at 3B and walked Molina, I could get behind this one.
And speaking of one…
Gee that’s great of you.
So the Red Sox, who had 1 hit prior to the 9th inning, deserved to win it more?
Sorry. What was I thinking?
A team that woefully and repeatedly, fails to capitalize on a wobbly pitching performance such as Dice-K’s—including an instance in which said pitcher walked 2 consecutive hitters to load the bases, only to have both A-Rod and Matsui swing at first pitches with pathetic results and scoring no runs in the end—does not deserve to lose that game.
Why learn the lesson of what happens when you waste numerous opportunities to score in such a lame manner? It’s not like it’s gonna come up in the post-season with the weak pitching they’ll be facing, right?
Your qualifications for winning games are strange and off-putting.
His real name is Pedro Sorano.
Cerrano
The offense didn’t do much, but it did enough.
sorry….who’s that #1 ?
Bobby Murcer
Bobby Murcer
Numero Uno Baby.
brain cramp(pun not intended) Bobby murcer
Again! Again those fuckers at LoHud steal our pic! Errrr…
Haha, I noticed that.
Cy Young for CC. Signed sealed and delivered.
he probably comes in 3rd.
He should…he’s finished strong, and his team is going into the post-season, but it’s for the best pitcher. That’s been Grienke, and Hernandez has been a close second.
Agree.
True that.
CC for 3rd place finish.
Definitely Third
if he hits 20 and has another outing like this one to get his era to 3.1 ish maybe they give him 2nd, but i doubt it.
MERCER!!
I miss Bobby – What a great guy!
It would be pretty enjoyable to get the sweep tomorrow.
