IF the Yankees go 6-6 the rest of the year, Sox have to go 11-3 to tie for the division. If they go 7-5, Sox have to go 12-2, etc. Not going to happen.

Let's ignore the fact that Boston has done well against LA in previous years.. that was then and this is now. Boston's record this year is better against Det/Min than LA. Plus LA is a much better team than either Detroit or Minnesota.

Because the marginal value of winning the division over winning the wild card is very small.

A well rested team with the wild card is better than a worn out team with a first place finish.

A well rested team with the wild card is far, far better than a worn out team that tried hard for first place but ended up with the wildcard anyway.

I bring up something that actually is related…perhaps not to your standards…and the guidelines get thrown in my face.

We already deleted one of your comments from this thread for being off-topic. They're not the "Commenting Guidlines for Everyone But Makavelli." If you really want an outlet for your musings about how the Yankees are going to miss the playoffs or whatever, start your own site. But please, respect the guidelines while you are commenting here.

Anything less than an all-out effort by the Yankees to clinch the division and best record is insane. Why face both LA and Boston as the visitor when you could have home field advantage against Det/Min and only one of Boston/LA?

Please. You don’t agree with me so you throw this out there in order to stop it.

It's not that he doesn't agree with you. It's that you keep posting the same concerns over and over, whether it's relevant to the topic at hand or not. We've all heard you before. Most of us think you're overreacting and have given you plenty of arguments.

There have been several posts where off topic conversations go on and youtube videos are posted or movie quotes…or other jokes. But those are ok.

Most of that is friendly chit-chit. It is a social site here. Just about every conversation about the rotation in a post about the bullpen gets yelled at for being off-topic though. Discussion of the proper roles of Hughes & Joba is probably the exception, in which case you get a short lease before getting yelled at for beating a dead horse.

I bring up something that actually is related…perhaps not to your standards…and the guidelines get thrown in my face.

By the usual standards of this site, it's not related.

Because Beckett is on pace to thrown a career high in innings, before the playoffs even start, at age 29. DiceK isnt all the way back to 'ace form.' Wakefield has no back. Youk was just out with a back issue. Drew is always beat up. Lowell needs rest for his rip also.

That's why. They're not going to run their team into the ground, trying to get something they wont get, and screw themselves for the playoffs.

RAB Commenting Guidelines
5. Keep comments on topic. Every day during the regular season, we will host a Game Thread. In that thread, feel free to discuss the Yanks, the news of the day, what’s happening in the game, etc. For the rest of the posts, do your best to keep comments related to the topic at hand. News tips should be e-mailed to one of the writers. Contact information is available in the sidebar the right.
