This afternoon, we chat

By Mike Axisa

Isn’t it great when the Red Sox come to town at the end of the season but the games are meaningless because the Yanks are so far out in front? I’m certain these games will be made out to be more than they really are, but don’t buy into the hype. The biggest goal of the weekend is to get out with everyone healthy. It would be nice to clinch the division against the Sawx, but I won’t get all bent out of shape if it has to wait until the Royals series.

Anyway, see you this after noon at 2pm. Say hi to your mother for me.

Excellent because I have plans tonight with the killing of the Persians and the dining in hell and whatnot.

These games are far from meaningless if the Yanks are swept. Let’s not anger the baseball Gods with such hubris!

No these games are far from meaingful.

TheZack says:

NO, you’re both wrong. The games are meaningful, just not very. Being swept would be bad but not catastrophic.

Zack says:

kind of depends. if Girardi puts out the A lineup and uses the top relievers in back to back nights, then yes.

If he has Pena, Duncan, Cervelli or Hinske in the starting lineup and IF they lose, tough to take the L as meaningful.

The best case scenario is we sweep and clinch while TB sweeps the Rangers so Boston clinches their WC spot on our field after being handed a three game beat down. That would be pathetic 101 and very satisfying to watch. Knock on wood.

Zack says:

um, best case scenario would be the Rangers winning the WC and Sox missing the playoffs

Dela G says:

yes that would be nice

The question for the Yankees in the playoffs is the bullpen. Specifically, Can Mo and Hughes get you nine outs a night? If they can, I think #27 is on the way.

Will says:

It is definitely premature to call these games meaningless. The Yankees only need 1 game, but sweeps haven’t exactly been rare in this season series. It’s fine for fans to think the division is settled, but I hope Girardi (who unfortunately has been managing that way) and the players do not.
