Joe Girardi blew this game. He has over managed every game in these playoffs but this is the first game that came back to bite him in the ass. He is not a post season manager. Joe Torre would never have made these decisions. Girardi will be the only reason why the Yankees don’t win the World Series this year.

I think it would have been better to have Mo bat and increase the likelihood of getting through this innning to Tex/Arod/Hairston/Cano and have another inning of D-Rob over the marginal benefit of Cervelli hitting. It’s not like bringing Po off the bench.
Do people like that move to lift Damon for defense in the middle of that inning? It makes things hairy with the lineup, but I think it was the right thing to do in that spot, especially considering Damon’s arm.
It was the right move. It sucks that the the team lost the DH spot, but at the time they needed to worry about not losing the game. We all know J.D. throws worse than a fourth-grader.
On the radio they’re saying that because D-Rob throws fastballs and sliders he can be more predicatable, but Aceves has too many pitchers for a batter to key in on. I don’t necessarily agree with that, but let’s also remember that D-Rob had to miss time with an elbow injury at the end of the year.
Alright those smarter than me… What’s the benefit to bringing in Aceves now when Robertson was doing just fine? Save him for tomorrow?? I would have loved to stuck with David, but I’m sure Joe knows a little more than I do.
When the series started, I saw a few sabre-inclined commentators suggest that while they believed the Yankees would win it all, the odds were high that Girardi would cost the Yankees at least one win in the post season with over management of the bullpen. We just saw it. Hopefully he got it out of the way.

The bullpen pitched admirably, but you knew at some point going 0-for-8 with RISP (stat might be more, I’m not sure) was going to hurt this team. The real issue here is the missed opportunities. We had them all game and that’s what did us in. This idea that Girardi has been hurting the team all year with his over-managing, I think, is a bit over-thought. You don’t win 103 games with a clueless manager. Managing is putting players in the best position to win. Girardi doesn’t play the game, the players do. While I think putting in a guy who pitches more to contact was a poor decision, it does not mean that he is a poor manager.

The bullpen pitched admirably, but you knew at some point going 0-for-8 with RISP (stat might be more, I’m not sure) was going to hurt this team. Andy still had a solid start, but the ball just wasn’t going the Yankees way tonight. I don’t think anyone should have had the expectation that this team would go 11-0 in the postseason. It’s one game. Remember the Angels series earlier in the season where the Yanks lost the first but won the next two to take the series? This team will rebound and play better.
So let’s all take a deep breath. The Yanks still hold a 2-1 series lead with their ace going tomorrow. Kazmir has pitched well against the Yankees, but I think the Yanks are due for a real break-out game this postseason.

Thank you. I was getting tired of the LoHud vitriol in here. No one is happy with what transpired. Should Girardi have left K-Rob in? I think so, but that doesn’t really matter. The real issue here is the missed opportunities. We had them all game and that’s what did us in. This idea that Girardi has been hurting the team all year with his over-managing, I think, is a bit over-thought. You don’t win 103 games with a clueless manager. Managing is putting players in the best position to win. Girardi doesn’t play the game, the players do. While I think putting in a guy who pitches more to contact was a poor decision, it does not mean that he is a poor manager.
We’re up 2-1 and have our ace going tomorrow. We need to be more consistent offensively but going 11-0 wasn’t going to happen.
