I still say the breaking ball was the right pitch. The problem was AJ throwing it in the dirt more than a foot off the plate.

AJ didn’t do a great job. He did a pretty poor job. The two hits in a row, fine…that happens. Walking guys, hitting guys when he’s ahead of them, and giving up runs on wild pitches is not a good job by any stretch of the imagination.

No, that’s not an awesome job by either A.J. or Molina. First of all, Molina shouldn’t be calling for a breaking ball with a fast runner on third. Second, if they DO call for the curve, put it down the middle low or inside so if it bounces, it goes right into Molina’s chest. That was a terrible, terrible pitch to throw in that spot.

No apology. It’s an asinine move with CC having gone 8IP yesterday, an off day tomorrow, and Burnett getting progressively wilder as the game has gone along. Molina fortunately getting his one hit every five at-bats just now doesn’t negate what Girardi just pulled. An awful, awful move.
Making Molina AJ’s personal catcher is a questionable decision that I disagree with. That being said, leaving both Molina and AJ in for the 6th inning is absolutely, positively the right decision and not an “awful, awful move” in the least.
I’m not upset at all with AJ…this was a very good start…only 2 BBs in 6 innings is pretty damn good for him.

Here’s the thing…they’re running out a worse lineup based on the notion that Molina makes AJ better. We know that AJ has thrown plenty of games with his good command in which Posada was behind the plate, so it’s not that he CAN’T throw to Posada. So, is it that Molina can fix AJ on the fly? Clearly, no. See: last game, where he walked 5 and hit 2, and the fifth inning where, once he was throwing out of the stretch, he couldn’t get the ball where he wanted it and nothing Molina did helped. Does Molina’s blocking ability enable Burnett to bounce curveballs with impunity? Also, clearly not.
So…why are we weakening the lineup?
