ALDS Game Three Thread: Angels @ Red Sox

By

After scoring just one run and putting only 12 runners on base in the first 18 innings of the series, the Red Sox returned home to Fenway down 0-2 in the best-of-five ALDS to those pesky Angels. Boston posted the second best home record in baseball this year (behind the Yanks, of course), so coming back East could be just what the doctor ordered. Clay Buchholz (7-4, 4.21) will face off with Scott Kazmir (10-9, 4.89), who is certainly no stranger to the Fens. First pitch is scheduled for just after noon ET, TBS will have the broadcast. Feel free to chat about the game here.

  • Mike Pop

Hope the Sox get a W today.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Same, but in extra innings and in really stressful fashion.

      • Rocky Road Redemption (formerly RAB poster)

No way! A stressful, extra innings win could mean momentum. I’d rather face the Angels.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Game 5 of the ALCS last year meant momentum too, but they lost the series anyway.

        • Quikksand

The Twins got a stressful extra innings win, and currently getting crushed by the Yankees :)

    • mustang

I just can’t hope for that.

      • Mike Pop

Eh, winning 1 game doesn’t matter. Not like I’m rooting for them to win this series.

        • mustang

I know, but I just can’t do it last time I wanted them to win was 1986 vs. the Mets.

          • ashish

I wasn’t even born then lol.

            • mustang

              Thanks..lol

  • Free Mike Vick

LOL @ the red sox having to play at noon.

  • mustang

Red Sox now, Giants at 1pm and the Yanks at 6pm.

    Sport heaven !!!!!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I don’t want to wait for Monday for the Jets!

(#travails of being a Jets fan)

That said, why the hell are they starting this game at noon?

    • whozat

Were here supposed to be 4 games today?

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah, but the Cards got bizzounced.

        • whozat

Right, but that would explain why the Sox are at noon. There was supposed to be a 3PM game too.

          • Mike bk

yea prob. boston at 12, stl at 3, us at 7, phil/col at 10 was the schedule.

      • Mike bk

and the phils got snowed out yesterday so they are playing game 3 today instead.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

          No, they’re playing at 10pm.

          • Mike bk

            GAME 3 not AT 3.

            • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

              Whoops, my bad.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s so funny watching Abreu run. It’s a fat guys actually going pretty fast.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

I shouldn’t have enjoyed that but I just did.

  • Mike bk

has it been announced if the Sox win today that they would go with Lester short tomorrow and Beckett for game 5?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yep, Lester is going if there’s a game four.

      • Mike bk

so you manage the angels, do you counter with lackey or just leave it and let lackey face beckett in a game 5 if it happens?

      • Reggie C.

Hmmm … and that’s why I really want an Angels win today. I’m gonna be flipping between this game and the Giants. Good sports afternoon set up.

  • Mike Pop

Abreu was so sick in his time with the Yanks.

    .295/.378/.465 with a 120 OPS+

    • whozat

      That’s not really “sick”

It’s good, yeah. When combined with poor defense, thought, it’s actually not that great.

      • Mike Pop

Well yeah, a higher slugging % would have been nice but I’ll take that production anyday considering what Cash gave up for him.

True, his defense was very bad.

        I overreacted.

        • Reggie C.

I have mixed feeligs about Abreu. Maybe the whole missing the playoffs last year tainted the departure of certain Yanks, but at least Abreu was consistent at the plate.

Certainly it was unfair to cast Abreu as a slugging partner to Alex , but at least Abreu got on base a ton.

  • Mike Pop

What’s going to be funny is when the articles come out saying the Umpires won this series for the Angels.

    • whozat

That ball totally hit the bat, by the way.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    http://tinyurl.com/yh4acdf

    Hmmm, interesting.

    • ashish

i don’t get it. Is it that Kazmir throws faster with the Angels than with the Rays?

    • Zack

hinting about motivation/dogging it? or just that hes healthier?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I don’t know what it means, but he’s throwing harder now than he did early this year, or even last year.

      • Reggie C.

I guess elbow soreness is sometimes just elbow soreness. We’re all so scared shitless over pitcher arm troubles (as we should be) that many of us think worst case scenario. Kaz needs to be overpowering today.

        • Zack

Well he’s had the elbow soreness for what 3 years in a row? thats a huge red flag

  • Dela G

kazmir is a red sox bulldozing machine

  • Reggie C.

Which is the better out pitch: Buchholz’s curve or Joba’s slider?

    • Dela G

buchholz’s changeup is better than his curveball in my opinion

his change is a +++ change

      • Mike Pop

So the answer to your question, Reggie C. Joba’s slider.

        • Dela G

haha my bad, yes, joba’s slider

  • Mike Pop

    http://twitter.com/JonCouture/status/4787242923

Think they would bring him in for the 6th or so if Clay’s pitch count is too high?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Probably. Today should be kitchen sink day, everyone’s available for multiple innings out of the pen.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

That HBP would have been ball four anyway, right?

  • Reggie C.

Whewwwww …. close call. youk hit a bomb … foul.

  • Mike Pop

    I can’t believe FOX doesn’t have a football game on at 1.

    So ridiculous.

    • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

Sorry Mikey, we’ve got your Cowboys v. Redskins on Fox out here in Cali

      • Mike Pop

        Gotta stream.

        • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

          Nice.

      • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

Wow. I just realized that I typed Redskins. Ouch. Observation Fail.

        • Mike Pop

          Heh.

  • http://www.myspace.com/bayside Thirty5Thirty6

No. No it’s not. It is not Taco Bellsbury’s second spectacular catch in this series. The first ‘diving’ catch in game one was him slowing down, catching it leaning, and then sliding on the ground. So frustrating when people overreact to ordinary catches.

    • Zack

that just leads to people saying hes a great defensive CF, when he’s really on of the worst this year.

  • Reggie C.

Bradshaw = new Goal line RB

    j/k

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Dammit. I started him the last three weeks and fantasy and he gave me little compared to the guys I had on the bench. I sit him this week, and he decides to find the endzone.

      • Reggie C.

He’s found it twice now … Bradshaw looks like he could reach 100 rush yards before half time.

    • Tampa Yankee

The guy I’m playing hasn’t started him all year, and now he does… WTF!

  • Reggie C.

This FOX gun has got to be juiced a tad. Buchholz hitting 97?

    • Tom Zig

      aren’t all network guns juiced?

The YES gun is just wholly inaccurate. I remember one time it had CC at like 67mph for one of his pitches.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

    Bring on Game 4!

  • mustang

Oakland is horrible. Talk about getting your as kicked.

Now if KC can beat Dallas it would make up for what’s going on in Boston.

    • mustang

      ass kicked

      • mustang

Lets just seat Eli this game is over.

    • mustang

      I love Tony Romo

    • Reggie C.

4th and 1 and the Raiders decide to punt already down 4 touchdowns… you gotta go for it..

      • mustang

I agree, but at this point I don’t think they care.

        • Reggie C.

Is Tom Coughlin not gonna press this beatdown?? I’m kinda surprised a run play got called on that 3rd down. A dump pass to Nicks could’ve yielded another 50 yd run the way things are going today.

          • mustang

            Agree.

  • Dela G

i am loving watching the cowgirls lose

    • Mike Pop

      Cowgirls, how original.

Shit is tough man, I was looking forward to going to the game on December 6th. I don’t know anymore ;(

      • mustang

I’m looking forward to December 6th.
        LOL

      • Dela G

i am a jets fan in texas, and i can’t effing stand the cowboys fans who talk shit like their team is going to the superbowl.

this team is 9-7 at best

        • Mike Pop

Mhm, I try to be a realist. I’m a little biased but who isn’t, right?

I predicted 10-6 for this team, so I may be wrong, may be right. Who knows, they blew two games they should have won. At least win one of those games, ha.

But true, a lot of fans talk shit like that but that applies to most teams fans.

Right now, they look like ass. But I’ll go out on a limb and say they win this game. Hah.

    • mustang

It bring me almost as much joy as watching the Red Sox lose.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

This game certainly reminds me how much I love baseball, considering I’m geeked over this inning though it’s Sox and Halos.

    • Mike Pop

      +1

  • Reggie C.

Sinorice Moss …. falling down the WR depth chart as i type this.

    • mustang

      Yes, sir

  • mustang

Come on Halos make my Sunday

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

woohoo. Bases loaded with the future closer relieving the future ace.

  • Jersey

As the Twins have shown us, bases loaded and nobody out doesn’t necessarily mean squat.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

Too bad this isn’t Bard v. Yankees. Someone would have a grand slam here.

    • Mike Pop

But the Red Sox don’t have the legend that is David Robertson.

      • Jersey

Love to see Bard carve himself out a very different legend right here.

        • Mike Pop

          The legend of teh heat!

    • whozat

      True

Rivera’s bat looked like it was starting to crack already when they did that closeup on him earlier in the at bat and, even if it wasn’t, that bat was REALLY dinged up. Maybe you shoulda grabbed some better lumber, Juan.

      • Jersey

Really? That’s pretty dumb he didn’t switch bats.

        • whozat

The bat looked really, really used, like a BP bat maybe. 20-some-odd dings in it, and I could’ve sworn I saw a lengthwise crack in it. I might’ve been wrong, though.

  • mustang

    Damn

  • Mike Pop

    Good job by Bard.

    • Jersey

Gotta tip the cap. That DP was huge.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siYKRL4I3UA JobaWockeeZ

I love how overrated the Angel’s speed is currently.

  • Reggie C.

This is alittle early for David Carr …

Big spot for Carr who needs some game reel to land somewhere else next season for more money.

    • Mike Pop

The Giants are a dominate football team.

Eli has that heel pain right? No big deal imo. Eli is a phenomenal quarterback, you guys are fine.

      Unfortunately.

  • Jeter’s Ford Edge

Why do some of you guys want the Sox to win so badly?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Stretch this series, tire them out. I don’t care who wins, but I’d rather not see the Angels win in three relatively easy games.

      • Dela G

        +eleventy billion

    • whozat

We want the series to go longer, to have these teams fly back to california AGAIN, to make guys throw on short rest, etc.

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

        This.

The series going to 5 games means those two teams having to go to California and flying back to NY for game 1 of the ALCS.

  • mustang

It doesn’t matter Eli, Carr, even Romo.

    • mustang

      Well maybe not Romo..LOL

      • Mike Pop

        You’re funny.

    • Jersey

      even Romo

      You so krazy!!!

    • Reggie C.

      hilarious !

  • aj

I think I’d rather face the Red Sox, but I don’t them to get hot and come back with all this momentum.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

      Yankees > Momentum

  • mustang

Man, I would love for Papelbon to blow this.

    • Jersey

I can’t believe they’re gonna make Oakland play another 30 minutes against this team.

      • Jersey

        reply fail

  • Mike Pop

    Bard is really good.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Except against teams that can handle quality fastballs, like the Yankees.

      • AndrewYF

This is why I’d rather the Yankees face the Angels.

        • Reggie C.

          + 1 + 1 + 1

    • whozat

Bard is really good throws really hard.

    • Salty Buggah

      K-Rob is better

  • Jersey

I can’t believe they’re gonna make Oakland play another 30 minutes against this team.

    • mustang

Just let the back- ups play and hope no one gets hurt.

      GO KC

  • Salty Buggah

    Lombardi is dick.

So some guy posted on his blog about how A-rod faces the media no matter what but Pujols left yesterday after going only 3-10 in the sweep. However, then Steve later adds on:

Well, back in August, we did have this report to share from Tyler Kepner:

[Alex] Rodriguez is a ghost in the clubhouse, at home and on the road, especially before games. He limits his availability almost exclusively to brief sessions with a group after games in which he has made an impact, good or bad. He does almost no one-on-one interviews, and nobody questions the rules.

But, to MJ’s point…this refers to the regular season and not the post-season.

    Fucker

    • AndrewYF

Look, everyone knows not to take Lombardi seriously. Let’s not clutter game threads with his garbage, or criticisms of his garbage.

      • Salty Buggah

Yea, my bad. I just hate that guy.

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Would that be called an infield-double?

  • Reggie C.

Raiders D-line is tightening up. Too. Late.

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon Kendry 3 run HR

    • Salty Buggah

      damn

  • Jersey

    No Papelbon here?

    • Jersey

      There he is.

  • whozat

I love how Martinez is all over Pedroia’s jock for making a play that any fundamentally solid 2B makes. Oh! He had so much GRIT to get in front of an easy grounder! He just WILLED himself to throw out the lead-footed Kendry Morales!

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

      Agreed.

I was shaking my head over the the bases-loaded DP earlier when he commented on what a perfect & difficult play Grits made. It was one of the most natural DP balls I had ever seen.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

    Alright Juan!

  • mustang

    YESSSSS1!!!!!

  • Jeter’s Ford Edge

    THERE WE GO!!!

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

No fist-pump on that one, Papelbon?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Perfect. Stress Papelbon, stress it out.

  • whozat

You know, it’s the Sox bullpen depth that really impresses me.

    • AndrewYF

They have so many different pitchers who can blow leads in so many different ways.

  • Alex S

paps will choke big time right now

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

The Red Sox have the best bullpen in baseball, folks.

  • whozat

Really? You don’t PH Kendrick right here?

  • whozat

    Willits FAIL

  • Reggie C.

    Reggie W. … damn.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Awful Reggie, just awful. Maybe the first time you almost got picked should have been a sign you were too far off the bag.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

    You suck Reggie Willits.

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

I can’t believe he didn’t know Papelbon was going to throw to 1st again.

    • whozat

He looked surprised, like he was off balance going back to the back. Just shitty baseball.

  • Jeter’s Ford Edge

    facepalm

  • Alex S

after the game ESPN will praise papelbon’s ability to throw the runner out and John Kruk will go on a rant about how most pitchers can’t

  • mustang

Can someone please tell me where that ass was going ?

  • Jersey

    HAHAHA

    What a pinch running fail.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

I want the Sox to hold up their lead but, damn, I got such a chuckle out of seeing Paps fail right there.

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

I don’t. I want Papelbon to blow the save and their season, today.

      • whozat

But then the Angels can rest up and get their ducks in a row before facing the Yanks.

        • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

Both teams are going to have their starters lined up. I don’t mind, we’ll win anyway. As for today, I want Papelbon to shit the bed in he 9th and do the Irish Jig all the way home.

          • whozat

Can’t Papelbon shit the bed in Game 5 in Anaheim?

            • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

He can. I’d just rather it happened today. I know why some people want the RedSox to win today… I’d just rather they get swept.

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

Well, I certainly wouldn’t mind if that happened but I’d like the Angels and Sox to tear at each other for longer, knowing the Yanks are waiting.

      • Salty Buggah

I want both of you right. Pap blows the lead. Sox win in 19

        • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

          +19

        • Salty Buggah

          Angels win. My bad.

        • mustang

Agree. And lets get there before worry about how much rest the Angels and Sox would get.

  • mustang

let them blow it in the 9th that’s even more painful

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

I wish Manny was still there to smack Youkilis in the face.

  • Jeter’s Ford Edge

I didn’t know Jepsen thew that fast.

    • Andy in Sunny Daytona

I would say that this radar gun is about 3 mph fast.

      • whozat

Then Gameday is too. I checked.

        • Andy in Sunny Daytona

          I guess gameday is infallible.

          • whozat

I didn’t say that. However, what’s more likely? That two, separate radar guns run by different organizations are similarly miscalibrated, or that you’re wrong?

            • Andy in Sunny Daytona

What makes you think that they are two separate radar guns?

              • whozat

…because in pretty much every game I’ve watched all season, whether on ESPN, YES, MY9, or whatever channel it is that the Giants are on out here, the guns have read differently on gameday and on TV. I’m pretty sure gameday is driven off the pitchfx data, and the in-game TV radar gun is not.

                • Andy in Sunny Daytona

I hear ya, but the way TBS broadcasts have gone, I think there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn’t piggyback gameday’s data.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

Is Aybar really good on D or is this just a case of my eyes seeing some good plays?

    • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

Aybar is just a baseball player.

      /TBS’d

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

As TBS said, they’ve just got some baseball players. Those guys are gritty.

        /Pettitte’d

    • whozat

I’m pretty sure his rep is that of a good defender.

      Shitty throw, Napoli.

  • JMK aka The Overshare

I feel terrible for Raiders fans (if there are any left). This is just sad.

  • whozat

How come we’re not hearing any salivating over Jepsen’s fastball? Every single pitch in that AB came in 98-99

    • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Because Rex Hundler, for some unknown reason, is not doing the game.

  • Salty Buggah

Oh look, Ortiz got his 1st hit of the playoffs. A measly single.

    • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

It’s sad he didn’t get a curtain call like he got for his first several homerns of the season.

    • whozat

But it was SO CLUTCH! Two-out base hit to start a rally! AMAZING!

Funny how the actions of other players after the hit retroactively make the hit clutch, but STOP MESSING UP MY NARRATIVE!

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

      HE’S BACK!

      Ortiz is back, baby!

  • Jeter’s Ford Edge

damn it, I don’t like the idea of having Lester and Beckett pitch the next games…

    • whozat

Beckett has been solidly mediocre for a month.

Besides…what’s the worst thing that happens? The Yanks lead off the ALCS with Sabathia @ Bucholz?

      • Mike bk

it would be CC v Clay, AJ vs Lester and Andy vs Beckett. the more interesting is if Mike will go for the throat and go with Lackey short tomorrow

  • Salty Buggah

    damnit Jepsen

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

I walked away from the game for a moment and then thought Ortiz stole there.

My mind was blown for a hot second.

  • AndrewYF

I can get behind this Boston victory. Best-case scenario for the Yankees is it going 5 games, then either team would be at a disadvantage, unless the Yankees series goes 5 games as well.

    • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

That series going to five games is the best-case scenario for the Yankees anyway. Flying cross-country for game 5 and then back to NY for game 1 of the ALCS would be great.

      • AndrewYF

Remember that there is a day off in between, so it’s really not that bad. It’s more about the pitcher matchups.

        • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Winning today would mean we could go with CC for three games in the ALCS. I like our chances with that. Especially considering that LAA/BOS would not be able to line up their rotations.

          • AndrewYF

Yeah, exactly. It’s the pitching matchups, not the cross-country travel, that puts BOS/LAA at a disadvantage.

  • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Wow, Martinez literally GRITTED the fan out of his way.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

You do realize the Yankees lost 59 games this year right? Even excellent teams lose games, especially when playing other excellent teams…

      • JMK aka The Overshare

I’d hardly qualify the Sox as an excellent team this year. Good, but certainly not excellent.

        • Whitey14

You have a right to your opinion, even if it’s wrong ;-)

I think 95 wins coming out of the American League East qualifies them, even if others don’t.

    • JMK aka The Overshare

You have other choices. You could convert your allegiance to the greatest sports franchise of all time. You could also simply root for an NL team. You could take up a new hobby, like baking or something (sorry, pussy tubing is off limits). Enjoy your off-season!

      • Whitey14

Would you be referring to the Boston Celtics, or Montreal Canadiens, both of whom have won a greater percentage of their league’s championships than your Yankees?
(They only qualify as the greatest Baseball franchise of all time, sorry ;-)

NL baseball just isn’t as good ;-)

I do have other hobbies: Playing Softball, Strat-o-matic Baseball, and spending time with the family, for which there is never an offseason, thankfully :-)

        • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Now we have to go by percentage? What about the Houston Comets?

          • Whitey14

Damn, you’ve got me there Andy.

I guess this one is for each person to decide for themselves. I’ve always wondered why the guy with the best batting average wins the batting title instead of the guy with the most hits, but the guy with the most home runs wins the home run crown instead of the guy with the best HR/AB ratio…beats the hell out of me!

  • Andy in Sunny Daytona

Papelbon at the press conference; “I got 3 outs!” then dances a jig.

Between the Red Sox throwing at hitters and storming the mound (Starting fights) and Minnesota stealing signs and not running in the baseline, I’d say they both got what they deserved.

SOSH thinks that Papelbon is actually a very tradeable commodity. They seem to forget that he’s making in excess of $7 million in arbitration. There are very few teams who would even want Papelbon, much less give up actual value for him.

    • Steve H

There are a ton of teams that would take him at $7 million for 1 year. Look at what the Angels are paying Fuentes, who is 1/100th of the pitcher Papsmear is.

      • JMK aka The Overshare

        Agreed.

      • AndrewYF

Name ‘em. And he has two more years of arbitration.

    • MikeD

Totally. As much as I like to see the Sox lose, and in the embarassing way they lost, I also know the Angels are a tougher match-up for the Yankees than the Sox (that’s if the Yankees get one more win in the next three, and I don’t on anything until it’s done.)

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

It’s days like today I wish alex gonzalez was real.

    • JMK aka The Overshare

Eh, you can’t really blame their starting pitching. Especially Lester.

      • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Buchholz did a good job, too.

        • whozat

Pitching five innings and loading the bases in the sixth without getting an out?

If Joba had a start like that, there’s be Yankees fans aplenty screaming that he needs to be in the pen.

All told, it was actually a perfectly acceptable start, but not “good”

          • ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops

Fine, then “good” wasn’t the right word. He at least went 3-for-5 stealing laptops from the science lab, you have to count that, right?

      • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

Today Buchholz only went 5+. Lester didn’t pitch a great game, he walked 4. He kind of fell apart towards the end of the season for whatever reason. Beckett was not his usual post-season self. Their hitters absolutely disappeared but their starters are not absolved from criticism.

        • JMK aka The Overshare

I’m not saying the starters should be absolved from criticism, but of all the aspects of the team, they were probably the best, and even then, they were merely okay-to-good. But really, their hitting was awful, the bullpen wasn’t very good, and defense was poor. That’s why they lost, not the starting pitching.

          • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

Bottom line, their Grit Tank was empty. To avoid this next year, Tacoby Bellsbury will grow a Grit Beard.

the Angles will be the toughest test for the Yankees this year, i don’t care who makes it to the WS in the NL. Dodgers or Phillies/Rockies I believe the Yankees can beat any of those teams but the Angels are always sooo tough to beat for the yanks for some reason. don’t get me wrong i think the yankees can and will beat the angels but they’re always tough
