Jay-Z, Keys to perform ‘Empire State’ at World Series
ByThe Yankees, along with the rest of the city, have readily embraced Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” this fall, and now Major League Baseball has invited the duo to perform live at Yankee Stadium. Jay-Z and Keys will sing their hit single at Yankee Stadium prior to the start of Game 1 of the World Series. Perhaps Philadelphia can break out a Will Smith song in retort.

He’ll be performing his smash hit “Miami”.
He can follow it up with “Men In Black”.

Will Smith’s “Party Starter” and “Switch” wouldn’t be half-bad choices, if that performance was to happen.
I don’t think Lil’ Mama will be invited this time, therefore won’t crash the performance much like she did when the duo performed at the MTV Music Awards.
Cool, but I read somewhere that someone approached Jay-Z to do a special ‘Yankee Version’ of the song, and he declined, not wanting his song to be turning into a paradoy.
Now, of course with either the Yanks or MLB giving him a lot of money, he’s willing to do it.
I like Jay-Z, but this time he seems two-faced.
On a side note, I’d love it if Alicia Keys sang the National Anthem or God Bless America, cause she got some pipes.
Performing your song unadulterated is quite different than allowing someone else to write a special Yankee version/parody of it.

There’s nothing two-faced about it. He doesn’t want to change the lyrics of his song to turn it into a bastardized, bowdlerized corporate jingle. Having a corporate entity ask him to perform his song, himself, out of respect and tribute for it’s artistry is an entirely different story.
