NLCS Game Two: Phillies @ Dodgers

By Mike Axisa

Joe Torre may or may not have left Clayton Kershaw in too long last night, but George Sherrill did the team no favors by walking two before giving up a three-run bomb in the 8th inning. The Phillies are sending Pedro Martinez (5-1, 3.63) to the mound against his former team, looking to give themselves a 2-0 series lead before heading back east. LA will counter with Vicente Padilla (12-6, 4.46); meanwhile people complain about the Yankees fourth starter options. TBS has the call, first pitch is set for 4:07pm ET. Chat about the game here if you want.

Bo says:

Another game where the bullpen blows it. Lockdown all yr Sherril.

whozat says:

yes…after the starter couldn’t get through five. If only there was a way to get better starting pitching…like allowing your promising young pitchers the chance to develop into the starters they’ve shown the potential to be.

Nah, fuck that, that shit sounds crazy, yo.

With Pedro going for the Phillies the Dodger should really be starting someone else.

Anyone, really.

Golden opportunity to be up 2-0.

Disagree on Torre’s leaving in Kershaw too long. He was at 89 pitches and was facing Ryan Howard who hits lefties to the tune of .207/.298/.356. The decision to keep him was a fine one; Kershaw’s pitch execution wasn’t.

Mike Pop says:

True.

But he did leave that guy George in there too long.

Padilla’s splits vs. LHB:

.297/.380/.479/.859

Have fun, Philly.

Evan says:

Howard certainly had fun in that PA.

UWS says:

I don’t really care who wins, but I want to see Padilla get beaten like a rented mule.

dkidd says:

can someone explain the ruling of that dropped bunt?

why couldn’t loney make a double play?

TheLastClown says:

So, according to his “bubble-gum card”…

Is Pedro HOF material?

dkidd says:

will we ever see a pitcher more dominant than pedro in 2000?

i can’t imagine what that would look like

Best pitching season ever.

Andy in Sunny Daytona says:

I love that Pedro still rocks the Jheri Curls.

PS. Way to go Ghana.

dkidd says:

brazil u20 = epic fail

i love the 21st century!

Andy in Sunny Daytona says:

I don’t like the fact that the last Brazilian to miss was named Alex Teixiera.

e mills says:

“so the phillies have scored first again” ~ Chip Caray. This guy is brilliant!

dkidd says:

the phillies scare me a little. i’d feel more comfortable playing the dodgers

e mills says:

the umps scare me more than they do

Andy in Sunny Daytona says:

PHHEWW. Mary Hart finally arrived at the ballpark. Watch out Phillies.

dkidd says:

she looks like vincent van gogh in the sunhat

Mike bk says:

pedro twirling a gem…how about pedro as a 5 spot option next year? he loves the stage, and he is pitching very much like moose did last year where it doesnt matter how hard the fastball is because there is such differential with his offspeed stuff.

dkidd says:

we might be facing him in the ws this year

one last chance to play daddy

Riddering says:

Went for a walk and came back to see the game in the 8th inning with this score. I was not expecting a pitcher’s duel.

Was Padilla as dominant as the boxscore indicates?

And could that Jimmy Johns commercial be a little more racist?

Dela G says:

yes, padilla was very dominant. I would say more so than pedro. Also, his walk that he gave up was to the last batter he faced, and had only ONE 3 ball count the entire game

Riddering says:

I noticed he had more strikeouts. That’s just crazy.

Dela G says:

that was a clutch bunt

Dela G says:

as a child of 2 ghanian parents, i am uber proud of ghana for doing well in the U-20 game and tying brazil

Riddering says:

Aaaaaaand the game just got away from the Phillies.

Dela G says:

wow

dodgers tie the game on an error

1-1

Riddering says:

At least he didn’t hit anyone in the face with that throw.

Dela G says:

lol like knoblauch?

Riddering says:

Yes.

No mother is safe!

Dela G says:

HIDE THE WIMMENZ AND CHILDRENZ!!

Dela G says:
