Rain continues to threaten Game 6
ByDoes anyone want to see this series extended any further than it has to? No, I think one day off between Games 5 and 6 is plenty. Unfortunately, the weather might prove prohibitive. In fact, Weather Underground says it’s pretty much a given that it’s going to rain and thunder all game long.

That 100% on the bottom of the chance of precipitation. I don’t think it includes the chances of thunder.
The Weather Channel is a bit more forgiving. Their changes of precipitation sits at just 80 percent. I like that — they give themselves a margin for error. I don’t understand why a meteorologist would ever predict 100 percent chance of precipitation.

So it doesn’t look good. The guy on TWC is retaining some optimism. If you feel like being your own meteorologist, check out the radar.
That will conclude our weather-based posed…hopefully forever.

I love the fact that you are analyzing the weather on this website. I agree – why would you predict 100% chance of rain. At least make it 99%. Give yourself a slight margin for error.
Weather forecasts? How the hell is this going to keep me busy at work until you guys post something else? I guess I’m going to have to do some actual work. Thanks alot!!
Working is for chumps. Who works anymore these days?
I work in the Pro Shop of a private country club. Not exactly heavy lifting
I’m venturing into dangerous territory here, but I’m pretty sure the “% probab of precipitation” numbers are generated solely by computer models (given these conditions in the past, it has rained 10 out of 10 times, so the prob is 100%). Of course, the problem with that is how the models are run, so that’s why different weather outlets will give different probabilities.
Also, the farther away you are from gametime, the less accurate those models will be.
But I don’t think Joe Weatherman is sitting at a desk typing “100% chance of precip” into his computer.
yeah, i believe it’s based on previous history(the %)
does it help that it was predicted to rain all day, yet it’s not right now, and the sun is even poking out a bit?
this gives me hope
No, weathermen actually do type that in. They use the models, and then make a decision. (My brother’s a weatherman)
to quote lewis black: when the percentage is 100, it’s no longer “a chance”
hoping for a miracle, can’t take another 24 hours of waiting
Well, judging from the radar playing a loop, I think that the main storm is going upstate and by game time a big rain cloud will have passed over already. Most of the storm is Upstate. Once the large part passes over, which I am predicting by gametime, it seems to be pretty spotty as far as rain goes from there on. But that’s judging from like a 3 hour loop. It is moving NorthEast and the largest part is way Upstate so, yeah. That’s what I think.
Updating what I said before: Two hours later, the first part I was talking about has passed, and it looks like it won’t be too organized by gametime. I think there will be some rain, but not too much. At the pace this storm is moving, I believe we will be able to get the game in. If this game doesn’t happen, I am going to just conquer the Ontario province of Canada, which will be fun, just not as much.
What would it take for the MLB to move the game time up a few hours to start at like 4pm maybe?
While it would be smart for the schedule, it would be a logistical nightmare.
Wasn’t tonight’s game originally scheduled for 4:30 PM?
I believe, yes. Ben and I were wondering if it got moved because the NLCS ended.
It was – the 4:30 start time was only a contingency for a NLCS game 7.
Yeah, it was. I remember reading somewhere that the times would be pushed back if it was the one game of the day.
That is exactly why. If there was a NLCS 7th Game it would have been the 8:00 game today. For all those with tickets, MLB should just call the game now (even if they are calling it a bit early as the weather on Sunday is going to be beautiful; why f-around today; it would be nice to see MLB make a fan friendly decision once in a while; nothing was worse than the 2nd Game rainout against Det in 2006 when the game wasn’t called until 10:00 p.m.).
What about fans who travelled to NY for the game? Moving the game to Sunday is not necessarily a “fan friendly” decision, even if it is a you-friendly decision.
Now, having all weekend games (at least) scheduled during the day so that you can a) take advantage of the warmth of the sun, and b) give yourself more of a cushion for delays…well, that’d make sense. But it’ll also never happen, because of TV.
The way things look weather-wise, the 8:00 start has a better chance of happening than a 4:00 start anyway.
Yeah, it looks like you’re right.
If today’s game gets rained out do they play game 6 tomorrow with a possible game 7 on monday?
Yep.
Well, I guess losing those games—especially the last one—in Anaheim looms large now. If tonight’s game is postponed and the Yankees have to go the distance to win the ALCS, no CC on Wednesday vs the Phillies. Then again, just one more win on either Sat or Sunday, and it’s a moot point. Otherwise…
Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there today.
I’ve seen the movie roughly 12 times, meaning that I’ve heard that line at least 75+ times.
accuweather has a much more forgiving forecast for today’s game

You know what this reminds me of? Getting all the prospect gurus opinions on someone, and believing the one that most conforms with your biases.
For example, Phil Hughes as future #1 starter.
Well, I’m no meteorologist (but neither are most meteorologists) but the radar shot of the northeast doesn’t look horrible. What’s over us now looks like it will be the most sustained rain of the day. Later, it looks like it’ll turn to bands of rain, which might allow some baseball to be played.
This and, of course, we should always believe the opposite of whatever they tell us.
Most meteorologists are not meteorologists?
I was told there would be no metaphysics.
Did I just blow your MIND?
and it stopped raining and now it’s sunny again…my head hurts
Where is it sunny? Still pouring up here in CT.
Sitting high and dry here in Brooklyn right now.
Daytona Beach is all good in case they want to move the game to Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
I live in Naussau County Long Island (near border with Queens) and its barely been raining here at all this morning. However, there have been forecasts the whole week stating that it would be raining all day today. So maybe they could be wrong about today’s game.
The forecast was worse last weekend, so I am optimistic.
thats right bro!! Go Yanks!!
And this is why, I believe, all stadiums are going to eventually need at least a retractable roof.
that’d be sweet.
How would that work in the Bronx? They’d have no room!
No idea. But the way weather has been all year here, they’re going to have to do something. Perhaps they can create a weather machine.
The Chinese did for the olympics to stop it from raining. Why can’t we?
Exactly.
What are you, a communist? dun dun DUNNNN

Weather.com just said there is a chance it will still be raining at first pitch but is supposed to clear later tonight. I’m in Manhattan where it’s cloudy with some sprinkles here and there but I’ve heard it’s raining upstate and in Connecticut. So who knows where this big cloud of stuff is headed next.
Northeast. New Brunswick is gonna get POUNDED! But seriously, we got the light part of it. The large part is going away from us.
i’m 10 minutes from the stadium and sun keeps peeking out.
game 6 is really screwing with my plans, not to mention the WS rotation. where ever I go tonight WILL have a big screen!!!!
I live in Rockland County and it is not raining as of now but the weather report had said that it would rain all day and night. So far so good I guess.
im going to this game tonight and i really hope if they decide to postpone it that it will be announced before i leave connecticut.
it won’t be They will do everything they can to get this game in including delays before calling it off. Plan to make the trip to the Stadium.
They’ve done studies, you know. 60% of the time it rains, every time.
Does anyone have any idea when they might call this thing?
Pettitte’s game 5 of the 1996 World Series is on YES right now. I think that’s my favorite Yankee game of all time–a pitcher’s duel between 20 game winners decided by one unearned run. Based on time in my life (college in Atlanta), situation and the road game to take the lead in a series where the Yanks had been down 2-0 to take a 3-2 lead in the last game in Fulton County Stadium. It was an intense watching experience. Hopefully that’s a good omen for Andy whenever he pitches.
