Twins-Tigers Spillover Thread II

By

Best game I’ve seen all year.

Categories : Asides, Game Threads
  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

It would be awesome if they switched to the Steve Harvey show right about now.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Top of the order for the Twins next inning, get it!

    • Mike bk

that just means a mauer walk to get to gomez again.

  • Tom Zig

Better than the 15 inning Sox/Yankees game?

    • Arman Tamzarian

I’d say so, lots more exciting plays

    • Mike bk

the yank game was better pitched, but this has more drama.

    • notsodirtypop

this one matters just a touch more

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Not even close. That game was the most boring great game I’ve ever seen. Pretty much nothing happened until Hinske’s liner that Drew caught.

    • notsodirtypop

      I foresee Mauer becoming a hero here…

      • Chip

        I foresee Mauer being walked

        • notsodirtypop

          good point

          • notsodirtypop

            well we were both wrong

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

None of these relievers are really being over worked. I don’t know if this extra innings thing is going to work how I expected it to.

They should make these tie breakers playoff games and only allow the 25 man roster.

    • http://and-that-happened.blogspot.com Evan

I think the only way it hurts is if it goes into Rockies-Padres type length and they have to use playoff starters.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

I was thinking the same thing–but, hey, they’re being called on to warm up and facing hitters in high stress scenarios.

      So that’s something.

      • Tom Zig

Rodney is at 30 pitches and Nathan went 1.2 innings. We have that at least

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

Yeah but they won’t be pitching tomorrow anyway. Neither team will need their closer.

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Exactly. No point bringing in your closer when you lose Game 1 of the ALDS 28-0. Give him some rest so he’s fresh to also not come in any of the other games during your first round sweep.

Bonus point: You’ll lose Game 3 at home, so there will be no need to book a sad, pathetic flight home after you get eliminated, you can just take a cab home, sobbing all the way.

  • Alan

Who do the Twins have left? Gardy is making alot of bullpen switches.

  • Salty Buggah

Wow, nice game going on. Any amazing things happen yet?

    • Mike bk

      nah, pretty boring.

      • ForTheLoveOfTheGame

yeah everyone is cheering about nothing..
all the runs were lame.. and Raburn.. ha.. what a terrible outfielder..

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I can has 15 innings please?

    • Tseng

Or 20? Not to be greedy…

    • JGS

      why stop there?

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt us some way, some how. Like the winner is so on fire coming into the Bronx and the Yanks just assume they’re tired.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

Nah, it’s us fans who will behave that way.

This year, the Yankees don’t take anything for granted. They will fucking bunt on a pitcher who just lost a leg in ‘Nam. They’re that intense!

    • Pasqua

I don’t think the Yanks played 162 games (and won 103) only to assume that their playoff opponent would be “tired.” No worries. If anything, this works to our advantage…IF anything.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      Confidence Level: 27

  • ForTheLoveOfTheGame

burn the pen burn the pen burn the pen burn the pen…
    we can dream?

    • notsodirtypop

to every Pen, burn burn burn, there is a (regular) season (game), burn burn burn, and make time for every pitcher under the sun

  • handtius

Can you guys believe this?!? My laptops out for repairs so I can’t enjoy the game chats during the game, but man, I hop this goes on all night…either team will be minced meat tomorrow.

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I feel obligated to point out that while the Tigers have a paucity of lefty batters on their 25-man team, there were still opportunities that arose during this game that propelled the Twins to bring in a lefty reliever TWICE. First Mijares, then Mahay.

Keep that little nugget of information in your pocket.

(grins smugly in Tyler Kepner’s direction)

    • Mike bk

yes, cause we can bank on those extra innings in each game. lol.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I’m just saying. Wouldn’t you rather have a second LOOGY more than a third catcher? I know I would.

        • Accent Shallow

Ordinarily, but if Girardi is going to insist on Molina actually playing, that changes the calculus a bit.

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

            No, it doesn’t.

If Molina plays, Posada doesn’t play (because there’s no advantage of playing Posada over Matsui). Posada is Molina’s replacement.

  • JGS

    rodney is still out there???

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Good, he won’t be available for a few days.

      Advantage Yankees.

  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

i would forbid the twins from swinging at a single rodney pitch

  • Dela G

i still think the 15 inning game was the best all season, but this is number 2 for sure

    GOOOOOO BOTH TEAMS GETTING OUTS!

  • scooter

Twins win it here – Rodney gets gassed and gives it up

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

With the way this game has been going, Rodney probably pitches two perfect innings to (partially) redeem himself.

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

You’re halfway there. Quick, lay some money down on this.

      • scooter

        …and I suck at predictions

        Jeez

Teams have to think about being selective against a guy like Rodney.

Now it gets interesting. To me, if you’re thinking about getting a starter up, you have to think ahead, and get him up early enough for him to get his usual warmup in

If you’re Leyland, do you get Edwin Jackson up?

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

Damn C-Grand, that’s how you do it.

  • Alan

Hell of a catch, Granderson. You could patrol centerfield for my team any day of the week.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Oh snap, Granderson.

  • Esteban

Ron Darling, no Granderson has been getting TERRRRRRIBLE jumps lately.

  • Dela G

    granderson is incredible

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

I’d almost forgotten what it feels like to watch live playoff games.

    Sweet candy.

  • Dela G

    The OC FTL

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

OC that’s why you don’t curse at the umpire.. lol

  • ARX

    Wow brutal call

  • Mike bk

is rodney even available tomorrow. this shows how little leyland believes in the rest of his bullpen.

    • Pasqua

You might have answered your own question.

      • Mike bk

no, just cause he hates the rest of his pen doesnt mean rodney throwing 36 pitches can go tomorrow.

        • Pasqua

          Yeah, I know… I was emphasizing your…

          Nevermind.

  • Esteban

Way to run that out Mauer

  • Pasqua

On two occasions tonight the announcers have implied that this game hurts the Yankees because “they still don’t know which scouting reports to go over.” That is just frighteningly asinine.

    • JSquared

Kind of makes me realize that we’re lucky we have Michael Kay…

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

You mean scouting reports aren’t kept sealed and locked away until this game is over?!

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

      Ron Darling knows about pitching.

CC can’t focus in on one team, he has to be ready to pitch to two.

    • ARX

      UGH…

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Yeah, no chance Girardi has two sets of plans ready to go. None.

  • Arman Tamzarian

I can’t believe they pitched to Mauer

  • ForTheLoveOfTheGame

    inning/score call

    i’ll start

bottom 13 twins walk on span’s hit

    • JSquared

20 innings, Twins win on a Mauer Grand Slam.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Bottom 12. Nick Punto hits a mammoth solo shot, proving once and for all that he’s better than Robinson Cano.

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

        No, Cano could do that.

Bottom 12. Punto works a bases loaded walk to win the game and prove how much more value he brings than that free-swinging Dominican.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Gritsters don’t work walks with the bases loaded. They ground into game-winning, run-scoring double-plays (provided there’s no outs.)

    • Chip

19th inning, Curtis Granderson hits one off the ceiling in fair territory and runs it out for an in the park homer

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Mauer swinging at the first pitch against Rodney? Does not compute.

  • Dela G

    keep it going guys

    i want verlander to pitch

  • Alan

I think its interesting that we’re seeing two different bullpen strategies at work here tonight.

Detroit has been sticking to a relative few relievers (4) this evening, letting them get work in. Minnesota, on the other hand, has been spreading the damage around and keeping fresh arms on the mound (9).

We’ll see which one works out.

    • Chip

The Tigers don’t have anybody else out there that can make outs though where as the Twins are much deeper

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Don’t forget this is a regular season game, so they both have expanded rosters.

      • Alan

Yeah, but they’re using the guys they’ve been using all year. Both teams are pretty much at the end of their ropes. Detroit has little quality left in their ‘pen and Minnesota just flat out has no one else. If this goes longer, we’re looking at starters having to come in.

  • GG

I’ve shown up in time to let everyone know. I’ve talked with Joe Mauer, and he is in fact about to hit a walkoff

    • Esteban

      that got him

  • Mike bk

    rodney 36 pitches

    • scooter

Talk about dropoff – Bobby Seay is your next reliever (probably)… or you roll the dice and go with Edwin Jackson

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

They’ve still got Bonderman out there.

  • Ivan

Wow, if your sports fan, this is an absolute treat.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

not for my 3 school projects that are due tomorrow…

      • Pasqua

That’s what happens when you procrastinate, young man!

        • Johan Iz My Brohan

I’m a senior in high school, the senioritis has kicked in!

          • Pasqua

I teach them, so I see it firsthand.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Darling was so going to say “You can sleep when you’re dead” but realized it was inappropriate.

    • Pasqua

      Bingo.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

He’s saving that for the Angels-Sox series.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Speaking of, am I the only one who thinks that the Angels pouring beer on the jersey of a player who was killed by a drunk driver was wildly inappropriate?

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Alcohol didn’t kill Adenhart, an idiot did.

I had no problem with it.

          • Arman Tamzarian

Yeah, but in these cases alcohol played an active role

          • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

“‘Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.’

            Well, guns help!”

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

No a few people talked about it. I had no problem with it, they were just celebrating with him as if he was still there.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

          I agree.

        • pat

No, he was their teammate they decide how to celebrate. They feel he is still a part of the team, they chose to celebrate that way.

  • Salty Buggah

That Rox-Padres game was all sorts of awesome

    • JSquared

One of the best games i’ve watched that didn’t include the Yankees.

  • Pasqua

I’d like to think that Sabathia is sound asleep in his bed by now… dreaming of happy things…and strikeouts.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      And cupcakes.

    • Mike bk

that implies that to CC dreaming of strikeouts is not a happy thing.

      • Pasqua

Strikeouts, in my scenario, are more of a badass thing.

        • Mike bk

          point taken.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering
    • crapulent aka I said good day sir

Like a bear in a cave. He says he sleeps all day on the day he pitches. Then he gets up ravenous to devour people.

      • PinstripesForeverDougie

        :D

  • Mike bk

quick, pinch run for him. lol.

  • Mike bk

is thames still on the bench?

  • Mike bk

wow, blackburn threw a side today so he isnt pitching tomorrow on 3 days rest.

  • cjc

    awful

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Delmon Young is just all sorts of fail.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

    That was Melkian.

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

    Awful

  • JSquared

    TEH LUCKNESS!!1!111111111!

  • Mike bk

wow, have to throw to 2nd.

  • GG

How many dingers would Miguel have had this year if he played his home games at YS

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

Well he hit 19 in Detroit and he wouldn’t hit much more than that in YSIII. So, no too many more.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

    Delmon Young FAIL

  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

    oh delmon

  • Mike bk

ha, forgot to mention the worst play in the game to allow the guy to get to 3rd.

  • Peedlum

23 innings. Please. If it goes 27 innings I’ll begin to believe the hand of Mo is involved.

  • Mike bk

edwin jackson for the bot 12?

  • scooter

Throwing to the wrong base on that single – more bad fundamentals from the Twins – really has to irk Gardenhire

    Bases loaded for Inge

  • ARX

I got a bad feeling about this AB…

    • scooter

Wow…. the ump missed the HBP there completely

      • crapulent aka I said good day sir

Not like it’s an important game or anything.

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

Nick Swisher will not pitch in this game, will he?

  • Alan

    Bad call, ump.

  • Pasqua

Nothing says “gamer” like pretending your jersey got grazed with the bases loaded.

    • Esteban

i dont think he was pretending

    • Mike bk

tough to pretend when it did hit the jersey…still shouldnt give bases for that.

    • TheLastClown

To be fair, we didn’t really get a definitive angle on it.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

That was a hbp. Ump fail

  • Esteban

    that got inge

  • Accent Shallow

    Twins lucked out there.

I can’t believe Keppel is the guy to pitch with the season on the line.

  • Pasqua

My wife just announced that she’s uncomfortable with Chip’s liberal used of the word “fisted.”

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Haha, this is cracking me up.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

… not gonna touch that one.

      • Pasqua

        It’s probably for the best.

    • yankeefan91 Arod fan

      lol

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Maybe its because the last time she used Summer’s Eve, she found the watch you lost.

      • Pasqua

        HEYOOOOOO!!!!

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, THAT JUST HAPPENED. IS YOUR MIND BLOWN?

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

      What

      A

      Game.

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

Damn, Mauer gets another MVP vote for that stop.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I bet there are people out there who will not vote for him if the Twins don’t win this game.

      • Mike bk

the votes were supposed to be mailed by yesterday.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Oh were they? Well if they had to be in tomorrow…

      • TheLastClown

Well, especially if a play he made cost them the game, he could obviously not be the MVP.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

If the Twins get out of this unscathed I’ll be shocked.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    What a play by Punto.

  • Pasqua

    This game is unreal.

  • JSquared

    THE PUTO!

  • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

    Punto > Coke

  • Alan

That was a hell of a play, Punto. Damn this is a great game. Let’s have another inning of this.

  • scooter

    Punto with teh grit!

Miguel wasn’t moving at light speed – but that’s smart baseball

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Great play by Punto there. No way he turns the DP

  • Esteban

that’s punto’s grittiness showing through. jokes aside, that was a really good play

  • TheLastClown

    How un-Canolike!

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

There’s no way a Dominican can make that play. Their brains are too lazy to think that fast.

      • TheLastClown

        Muy, muy, perezoso.

  • ansky

This is sick…I think John Sterling just passed out on his couch.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Finish the sentence, Chip…

  • Mike bk

can Jose Molina draw the walk?

  • ARX

    Here we go…

  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

oh god do NOT walk him in

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

What’s with the Punto/Cano comps? Did I miss something.

  • JSquared

    BOBBY KEPPEL!!!!

    • scooter

      Who but!

Laird – the suck is strong with that one.

  • Mike bk

    that was BALL FOUR

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      Exactly what I said.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

    Yowzah

  • ARX

Thank you come again. Tie preserved :-)

  • ansky

    Holy.Shit.

  • cjc

    wow again

  • Esteban

    wowza wowza

  • losjanks

    what a pitch. brilliant.

  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

    i just clapped so hard

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

    Holy crap.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Holy shit.

  • Salty Buggah

    ball 4 there

  • Dela G

    this is epic

  • Arman Tamzarian

This games going to need it’s own sportscenter

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I think we need to talk about how much Brett Favre loves football for an hour first, though, before we mention this game. It’s what the people want.

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

“That Tigers-Twins game was the most amazing showcase of athletic competition I have seen…

        since Favre’s performance Monday night!!!!!!!”

  • Accent Shallow

If the Twins don’t walk off, who the hell is left in the ‘pen?

    • ARX

their 3/4 starters I suppose. They won’t need them until the weekend

  • TheLastClown

Who in the hell is Bob Keppel?!

  • Pasqua

So the old baseball adage proves true again: “ALWAYS underestimate Gerald Laird.”

  • AndrewYF

Why the hell did Nathan throw only 21 pitches in a must-win game at home?

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

From a Yankee perspective, could this have worked out any better?

First we get a Play in game, then it goes extra innings.

    • Moshe Mandel

      Brawl between Mauer and Verlander?

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        Hahahahah!

        I stand corrected.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

You know who won this game for the Twins? Brett Favre. His childlike enthusiasm during the Vikings-Packers game was perfect motivation for the team.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I’m done with Farve. I take it as a personal affront that he changed his mind about playing this year, like he has every year for the past 4-5 years.

          /Peter King’d

        • PinstripesForeverDougie

I will always love that Mississippian Man-child!

  • HEY YANKEE FANS,

    please never end, game

  • Alan

Fernando Rodney is still in? Good Mo, Leyland has no trust in the rest of his bullpen.

  • Esteban

NO SKIP CARAY! the yankees do not have to stay up late to formulate a game plan

  • Arman Tamzarian

Rodney still? Do they want to win?

  • Henry Triana

Yo don’t want to over work a closer. A reliever after 25 pitches is a toss up in terms of effectiveness.

  • AndrewYF

The game should end in a tie, and the Yankees get to choose their opponent.

  • cjc

rodney still??????????????? I bet that is going to cost them

  • Chip

The Yankees have to stay up late formulating their game plan? Yeah right, the game isn’t until 6 tomorrow, you don’t think they could just check the scouting reports in the morning?

    • JSquared

There’s what… 2 possible pitchers from each team that could start tomorrow… and pretty much all the same fielders playing today…

    • Pasqua

It’s insane. And the 3rd time he’s brought it up.

People are going to watch the game, TBS. No need to fabricate a storyline.

  • scooter

There’s no way Rodney makes it through this inning

    Leadoff single

    Teh power of the ex-Mets!

  • JSquared

    Carlos Gomez?…?…

  • Raf

so if the Tigers win, will Rodney be available before game 3?

    • Mike bk

with the off day prob game 2.

  • Mike bk

    rodney is getting abused

  • ansky

3rd Inning for Rodney??? Nice one Jimmy!

  • JGS

    rodney is still in?

  • Accent Shallow

    Rodney is still in here?

    Yikes.

  • Ivan

    Gomez on Base

  • TheLastClown

    Carlos Gomez: .25

    Santana: 0

  • ansky

This game’s going to end here. Gomez can fly…damn you Leyland!

  • Mike bk

i would walk him too to pitch to casill

    • Mike bk

      casilla

  • ARX

Cmon, double play…give us 3 more innings.

    • JSquared

      Atleast 3 more!!

    • TheLastClown

I think the Yankees aren’t going to have too much of a problem with either of these teams anyway.

      Just sayin :)

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I’m actually pretty shocked that Delmon Young isn’t swinging right now.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

I see Leyland really dislikes his pen.

  • Accent Shallow

Odds on Young making an out during the IBB?

    Say, 5 to 1?

  • Ivan

Can’t say i blame Jim for briging Rodney in for a 3rd inning of work.

    • Mike bk

this is his 4th. 3rd full inning.

  • Raf

    suicide squeeze failed attempt….come on!

  • scooter

    Casilla 3-5 lifetime vs Rodney?

    Wow Jim – wtf?

  • AndrewYF

Why the fuck would you intentionally walk Delmon Young?

  • cjc

I can’t believe he would risk a 3rd inning of rodney in a do or die game

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

    Carlos Gomez, Playoff Hero?

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

    Wow.

There we go. Twins win. We’re playing Mauer and the lefties.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siYKRL4I3UA JobaWockeeZ

Almost as bad as the Mets collapse.

  • Alan

Good job, Leyland. You really showed your bullpen prowess tonight.

    See you tomorrow, Twins.

  • Mike bk

    sabathia vs duensing tomorrow

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

Where the hell was the RF?

  • Dela G

    wow great game

jim leyland is an idiot leaving rodney in for so long

  • Ivan

    Twins win,

Now they’ll get their asses kicked by the yanks next week.

  • Esteban

I’m happy the twins won. They have no pitching besides Nathan.

    • Ivan

It didn’t matter which team was gonna win, they’ll fate is the same, which was being destroyed by the team that plays in the Empire State.

  • cjc

nice job jimmy seriously great bp management

  • pat

    Twinkies it is.

  • Arman Tamzarian

Good, now everyone get really, really drunk to celebrate

  • TheLastClown

I would now like to express my gratitude to the Twins, for assuring that the Yankees will face Justin Verlander exactly Zero times in this years ALDS.

    Thank you.

    • Pasqua

That was my very first thought.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Congratulations to the Twins, you have just earned the right to get your asses kicked by the best team in Baseball.

    • Ivan

      Pretty much.

    • pat

      +27

  • Sam P.

Now the Yanks can finally start scouting their opponent in the ALDS! They need to hurry … there’s no time left! Aaaahh!!!

  • Nels

Are they playing New York, New York?

    • JSquared

They should play Jay-Z’s New York State of Mind…

      • Esteban

*Empire State of MInd. New York State of Mind is Nas or, I guess, Billy Joel.

        • PinstripesForeverDougie

Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

New York State of mind by nas

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

Was the right fielder playing right field.

  • Raf

tip your cap to Leyland and the Tigers? what the hell for?

    • Sam P.

      Heard that too …

Tip your cap to the team that couldn’t hold a seven game lead on September 7th? That’s not something worth tipping your cap to, methinks.

    • Zack

      for choking?

    • ARX

A Stanley Cup finals appearance, and a heartbreaking loss. A Final Four team, crushed like a bug. An 0-16 football team. And now a complete choke by the Tigers…yet more reasons I’m glad I don’t live in Detroit.

      • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

It’s like ’28 Days Later’ in Detroit after this.

        • PinstripesForeverDougie

          :(

  • Pasqua

I like the matchup, but I fucking hate dome baseball.

  • scooter

    Alexei Casilla, playoff hero

Leyland really goofed there – I think you HAVE to think about Edwin Jackson there.

Power relievers not named Mo aren’t going to give you almost 4 perfect innings

  • ansky

Beware Carlos Gomez running inside the baseline to try and break Tex’s wrist.

  • Mike

Regardless of who we play after seeing like this you can learn to expect anything… Leyland definitely didn’t manage his bullpen effectively at all. Either team, the Twins or the Tigers is going to be a good matchup. Hopefully the Yankees play as good as they have all year and take the series, tomorrow Yankees Vs Twins, can’t wait.

  • Dela G

by the way, who called the twins winning this game in the first game thread by one run?

    Dela G did

  • ansky

Great another damn playoff series agains that damn Orlando Cabrera…side bar: WTF is Craig Sager wearing???????

    • Arman Tamzarian

I think it’s that technicolor stuff from the 80′s

    • yankeefan91 Arod fan

He always wearing sum dumb shyt

  • http://twitter.com/hopjake Jake H

You have to wonder what time the Twins will get in to NY tonight. Also how much they will have tomorrow against CC

  • JGS

    wow that is some suit

  • King OK

Just to tell everyone I called that someone would win in the 12th, now we got game 1 tomorrow

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

So why do we have to “tip our caps” to Leyland and the Tigers, Caray?

    • JSquared

For blowing a lead that’s only been blown 3 times before…

      • JSquared

        or was it 4 times…

  • Peedlum

time to break out the instant hangover cheap champagne. and some 40′s.

  • CanoFTW

I hope the Twins are celebrating well into the night tonight

    • crapulent aka I said good day sir

get drunk because tomorrow is reality time dudes.

      • PinstripesForeverDougie

Quick someone bring in Boomer Wells to make sure they have a real good time tonight. And just for precaution… LT!!

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

They’re already doing the whole underdog thing. You’re underdogs because your owners pocket the revenue money we pay.

    • PinstripesForeverDougie

The truth hurts, but no one listens outside of the NYC!

  • TheLastClown

So Blackburn for Game 2, Pavano for game 3?

    Confidence level?

    Twenty-Seven.

  • ansky

So I guess this means Marte is on the roster. Can I please please please see Carl Pavano in game 1 or 2???? Its PAYBACK TIME Pussyboy!

  • Pasqua

I’m telling you, this postseason is fated.

First, we will “thank” Carl Pavano for his years of service to the organization.

Later, the monster shall destroy its creator when we dispatch Joe Torre in the World Series.

    • PinstripesForeverDougie

And Pasqua said it and his will be done.

      /Mo’d

  • MrBear

easily one the best games I’ve seen all year…

  • Mike bk

Sabathia v Duensing…Burnett vs Blackburn…Andy vs Baker or Pavano in game 3.

  • Peedlum

Can someone lay odds on whether Miguel Cabrera is drunk already?

    • scooter

      Steaks and blowjobs for Miguel
      Then it’s PUSSYTUBING!

    • pat

Miggy is in the Twins clubhouse gettin crunked.

That was Mets pitcher Duaner Sanchez.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.baby-bombers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/melky-cabrera-317x400.jpg Drew

        Man epic fail by me.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Especially since there’s a commenter named ‘Carl Pavano’s Porche’ who used to post here.

heh the brain just misfired on that one. I don’t know how I confused the two..

      • scooter

He was also driving a model named Gia Allemand:
        http://media.cnbc.com/i/CNBC/S.....mand_2.jpg

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Well, from the Tigers perspective at least Miguel Cabrera can get drunk and beat up his wife again tonight without it affecting the team.

    • ansky

Man I hope she stayed in Detroit…because he’s breaking something tonight!

  • ansky

Let the $10 dollar Champagne flow all night boys. I’m actually kinda glad the game ended now…means Tex and the guys can catch some ZZZ’s..except for Jeter I’m sure he’s at 40/40.

  • Patrick

In listening to the game, I just kept thinking Verlander was going to come in. Sure, Rodney is a reliever and Verlander just pitched on Sunday, but I just had the feeling that Verlander would have thrown a pitch before the Tigers lost.

Great game. Nice to listen to it on MLB Radio. The Minnesota guys were good. Reminded me a lot of the guys from the White Sox. Homers for the most part, but at they make it fun. Also makes you appreciate some good radio guys, which I’m not sure we have here in New York. A nice change from Sterling and the Suze.

    • whozat

I liked the way Darling and Caray handled the end of the top of the 12th. On that last pitch, just nothing…crowd noise…Laird swings…

      “UNbelievable!”

      Commercial.

      • andrew

That’s because they had botched every other play so far, probably were told to just shut up.

  • Peedlum

No way the twins get into NY before 2 am.

  • crapulent aka I said good day sir

Thank you Detroit for majorly sucking. Twins, get drunk and be late tomorrow. Thank you. Sincerely, New York

  • JMK aka The Overshare

Leyland fell asleep at the wheel there. I know his bullpen is atrocious, but he was going to have Rodney go four innings? Madness. Absolute madness.

  • ansky

I hope Alyssa Milano is blogging from the Stadium tomorrow…she always seems to bring Carl such good luck.

    • http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/riddering/Baseball/reachforthestaaaaars.jpg Riddering

She’ll be too busy with the Dodgers.

  • MattG

Take the shorter series. The Twin’s pitching staff is exhausted. Mauer just caught 12 innings, and he’s exhausted. They’ll have no sleep. They have no fourth starter either. Rivera and Hughes are totally rested, and can pitch 5 times in 6 days.

Don’t give them an extra day off. Take the shorter series.

    • whozat

Pretty sure they already said they’re picking that.

      • whozat

oh…I read what you said backwards, because it’s so absurd. No. so much no.

    • steve (different one)

but doesn’t the shorter series give the Twins the day off tomorrow?

i think the shorter series actually allows them to catch up a little.

    • http://www.newyorkjets.com/image_assets/8997/052109_coach_rex_ryan_presser_320.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

The only difference between the “shorter” series and the “longer” series is that the longer series starts on Wednesday and the shorter series starts on Thursday. The other games are on the same days, respectively, in either scenario. Thus, it makes more sense to take the longer series since the Twins played a long game tonight and will have to fly to NY tonight. Make them play tomorrow, don’t give them 2 days to recover before Game 1. Taking the shorter series gives them a day off when they’re tired, not the longer series.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa
  • ansky

Honestly, I didnt come away impressed with either team. This could easily be called the best game this season or the worst. It was like a contest to see who sucks the most. Tigers WIN.

  • http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0awG8jw7Ax5xR/610x.jpg Drew

Still can’t believe Raburn blew that play.
