None of these relievers are really being over worked. I don’t know if this extra innings thing is going to work how I expected it to.
They should make these tie breakers playoff games and only allow the 25 man roster.
I think the only way it hurts is if it goes into Rockies-Padres type length and they have to use playoff starters.

I feel obligated to point out that while the Tigers have a paucity of lefty batters on their 25-man team, there were still opportunities that arose during this game that propelled the Twins to bring in a lefty reliever TWICE. First Mijares, then Mahay.

I think its interesting that we’re seeing two different bullpen strategies at work here tonight.
Detroit has been sticking to a relative few relievers (4) this evening, letting them get work in. Minnesota, on the other hand, has been spreading the damage around and keeping fresh arms on the mound (9).
We’ll see which one works out.
The Tigers don’t have anybody else out there that can make outs though where as the Twins are much deeper
Don’t forget this is a regular season game, so they both have expanded rosters.
Yeah, but they’re using the guys they’ve been using all year. Both teams are pretty much at the end of their ropes. Detroit has little quality left in their ‘pen and Minnesota just flat out has no one else. If this goes longer, we’re looking at starters having to come in.

Regardless of who we play after seeing like this you can learn to expect anything… Leyland definitely didn’t manage his bullpen effectively at all. Either team, the Twins or the Tigers is going to be a good matchup. Hopefully the Yankees play as good as they have all year and take the series, tomorrow Yankees Vs Twins, can’t wait.

In listening to the game, I just kept thinking Verlander was going to come in. Sure, Rodney is a reliever and Verlander just pitched on Sunday, but I just had the feeling that Verlander would have thrown a pitch before the Tigers lost.
Great game. Nice to listen to it on MLB Radio. The Minnesota guys were good. Reminded me a lot of the guys from the White Sox. Homers for the most part, but at they make it fun. Also makes you appreciate some good radio guys, which I’m not sure we have here in New York. A nice change from Sterling and the Suze.
I liked the way Darling and Caray handled the end of the top of the 12th. On that last pitch, just nothing…crowd noise…Laird swings…

Take the shorter series. The Twin’s pitching staff is exhausted. Mauer just caught 12 innings, and he’s exhausted. They’ll have no sleep. They have no fourth starter either. Rivera and Hughes are totally rested, and can pitch 5 times in 6 days.
Don’t give them an extra day off. Take the shorter series.

i think the shorter series actually allows them to catch up a little.
The only difference between the “shorter” series and the “longer” series is that the longer series starts on Wednesday and the shorter series starts on Thursday. The other games are on the same days, respectively, in either scenario. Thus, it makes more sense to take the longer series since the Twins played a long game tonight and will have to fly to NY tonight. Make them play tomorrow, don’t give them 2 days to recover before Game 1. Taking the shorter series gives them a day off when they’re tired, not the longer series.
