  8. Hey Philly, Yankees ain't the Rays says:

Why us K-Rob in? It’s not the 12th??? He’s the 12th inning guy! Where’s Joba???

  9. chuck says:

Ok, so one positive, if we get out of this, then we make lee come in after a nice long sit on a cold wet night. We will tie this in the bottom of the 8th!

  10. Damaso Marte >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all you haters and doubters

Lets Go Yankees It aint Over !!!!

Big out here gives us all the momentum!

  14. Raf says:

@MikePop. that tweet you linked at the end of the last thread was great.

  15. The Artist says:

Watch Robertson give up a 3 run HR here, and the negative nancies will start screaming “WHERE THE FUCK WAS ACEVES?!?!?”

  16. Salty Buggah says:

    Cmon K-Rob.

  17. Brazilian Yankee says:

2-0 pitch couldn’t be anymore down the middle.

This ump been this bad all night?

    /was working.

Why must umpires continue to suck?

KRob feels more comfortable in bases loaded situations.

  27. BJ says:

Yankees The Movie: The Search for The Strike Zone

  32. Lefty says:

ok, well at least the umps are taking advantage with the umps in their pockets

  33. pete says:

i feel like umps should always err on the side of favoring pitchers when it comes to ball/strike calls

  34. BigBlueAL says:

Fuck what an awesome day on Fox on Sunday.

  35. Reposted for emphasis from the last thread:
    http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-656841

For all the people saying this game is over:

Think back to how many times you’ve said that this season and been wrong. Be honest. Start learning from your mistakes.

The record speaks for itself. Be smarter.

    That is all.

  36. danny says:

    c’mon k-rob

You didn’t see them winning the ALDS, or ALCS. You had them losing like 4-5 games that they won.
Your prediction powers suck ass. Stop predicting things

Had them in 4 against the Twins and 6 against the Angels. I game I had them losing which they eventually did was game 5 in the ALCS. So looks like I have actually be right.

  38. Souter Fell says:

please let’s get out of this unscathed

  39. ansky says:

remember when umpires were decent? those were good times.

  40. One more big pitch, let’s go Dave!

  41. Mike Pop says:

Ibanez, it was right down the pike. Posada just didn’t frame it.

  42. BigBlueAL says:

This ump is all over the place now.

  43. Brazilian Yankee says:

1-1 pitch was awesome, but the way Posada caught it made it look like it wasn’t a strike.

  44. cjc says:

    game over right there

  45. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Game over.

  46. baka nakamura says:

    fuck.

  47. Lefty says:

    wow… fuck…

  48. BigBlueAL says:

    Ballgame.

  49. JMK aka The Overshare says:

    Oh no! The UZR failure.

  50. Salty Buggah says:

    aw fuck. That sucked.

  51. Jay says:

    Wow. That hurt.

  52. JackC says:

Well, that’s a dagger, I have to say

  53. e mills says:

    where was Aceves!?!?!?!? j/k

  54. Ivan says:

    Talk about a see-Eye Single.

  55. Evil Empire says:

Oh boy…its sad, I’m more concerned about the influx of crying than I am about the 4 run deficit.

  56. Tom says:

I would say game over, but it was over at 2-0

  57. PsiFighter37 says:

Game over. Let’s get them tomorrow night.

  58. Doug says:

    Fukkkkkkkkkkk.

  59. Brazilian Yankee says:

Seriously, what’s the point of having 2 LOOGYs if you’re not going to use them to face tough lefties.

  60. GK says:

    Why wasn’t Mo in there?

    • Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

      agreed he should be in

    • Pasqua says:

Good god, the man can’t pitch in every situation! It’s a game they’re already losing, first of all, so protecting a deficit seems counterproductive. And, most importantly, at some point you have to use your staff.

  61. Drew says:

    Well that was a bummer.

  62. Hova says:

    Game, set, match.

Hate to say it, but its a must win game tomorrow. Gotta come out and hit Pedro hard.

  63. Lefty says:

omg Posada can you frame ONE pitch to save your life??????

  64. Three bad pitches are the difference in the game: the two by CC and the curve D-Rob just hung to Ibanez.

  65. Ivan says:

    Well…..I still got hope.

  66. Souter Fell says:

    fart

  67. JobaWockeeZ says:

Maybe they take out Lee with a 4 run lead?

  68. DreDog says:

    I don’t trust Hughes. I can’t believe it.

  69. Jake H says:

I don’t understand why Tex didn’t go after that ball. It looked like he had a lot more chance of getting to that then Cano.

  70. Mike Pop says:

Wow. Got what you wanted in Ibanez grounding the ball there. Just in the wrong spot.

    Sad Panda.

  71. Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

    nice play by alex

  72. Phanatic Philly says:

    Actual score 4-0
    Feels like 15-0
    Game,set…?

  73. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

This was just not our game, we’ll get Pedro and Hamels in the next games.

  74. Michael Kay says:

I remain hopeful that MLB changes their silly rule where infield popups don’t count the same as homeruns.

  75. BJ says:

    Hughes is done

  76. JackC says:

I think, evem if the Yanks lose this one, which they haven’t yet, the Yanks still have a very good shot of winning the series — but not unless Hughes gets his shit, if not exactly together, then at least within the same zip code

  77. baka nakamura says:

a-rod keeps it manageable at least. no time for bullshit. score runs.

  78. Bob Stone says:

All we need is a grand slam homer run!

  79. Lefty says:

welp… nothing left to say… except let’s fucking get to Lee RIGHT NOW!!!! Let’s fucking gooooo!!!! Let’s fucking do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  80. bonestock94 says:

Tonights over, but at least its to their only scary pitcher. Hopefully AJ can hold down the fort tomorrow.

  81. ansky says:

Meh. Cant fault K-Rob there..ump sucks and he hasnt pitched in a bit. Whether the Yanks win or not its still game 1. We all knew this would be the toughest game. Now if we cant hit Pedro or Hamels, or even EEEK the Phillies pen’, then I’ll jump off a bridge.

  82. danny says:

the game is NEVER over til the fucking last out, lets go yankees!

  83. nathan says:

Alright, lets get those base hits rolling

after that 6 run outpour against Angels on the road, i dont doubt that they have it in them… i just hope they have it today…

lets turn those caps inside out

  84. e mills says:

yankees have not scored less than 4 runs in a postseason game….they got this

  85. Phanatic Philly says:

Lee looks like he will win 3 games in this series.
The Phils need to find one more win from their starters.
    Very doable.

  86. Mike Pop says:

Heh. Higher in the thread – Brazillian Yankee saying – ‘Way to cheer for your team dude’.

    Oh the Irony.

  87. pete says:

the yankees should always be winning, and always win. just my opinion. i just feel like there should be a rule somewhere against the yankees losing

  88. Brian says:

Its not looking good but hopefully the Yankees find a way for a break out inning. I don’t understand how the Fan Graphs Game Graphs work but that has the Yankees at 4% right now. I’d love to see what it looks like after a Yankee come back.

  89. Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

good job my marte, who is proving doubters (and ive been on of the loudest) wrong. really terrible by phil, just let the whole team down with that effort, and then classless snapping at the ump. get it together

  90. Arman Tamzarian says:

I’m liking the work from Marte

  91. Pags says:

6 run inning coming up. Lee = stiff and cold. Phillies bullpen = terrible. No worries.

  92. claybeez says:

All this must win noise about tomorrow is bs. Starting the playoffs I felt the same about Game 2. What if AJ sucks? What if…? But, have you not seen Pettitte lately? Are guys seriously saying Andy and CC can’t win games 3 and 4 in Philly? That’s a hell of a thing to think, much less say.

  93. MAMO says:

CG shutout masterpiece by Lee. Making our hitters look like little leaguers. Props to him.

  94. NatalMike says:

In my opinion you leave the guy in if he’s going good. This left right stuff is bullshit. managers didn’t use to do it and Girardi takes it to absurd limits

  95. Four runs is definitely do-able.

    Come on, Yanks.

  96. Joseph P. says:

This Game aint Over Lets Go Yankees!!

  97. Mike Pop says:

    LOL @ that. Wow.

  98. JMK aka The Overshare says:

    Are you kidding me?

  99. Brazilian Yankee says:

Lee just pissed on the Yankees’ corpse.

  100. AndrewYF says:

So this one is on Girardi too, right?

  101. Oh look what the fuck Cliff found.

  102. baka nakamura says:

god is a phillies phan apparently.

  103. Pasqua says:

Okay, that might be my “not our night” moment.

  104. Hova says:

Woooow. Its this guy’s lucky fucking night. Everything has gone his way. Ridiculous.

  105. Drew says:

I take great displeasure in Mccarver’s joy.

  106. southernyankeefan says:

SHIT you have got to be kidding me. Can they get a fucking break.

  107. Mike Axisa says:

The Yankees just weren’t meant to win tonight. That play confirms it.

  108. Brian says:

    I f-ing hate Lee.

  109. Lefty says:

wow… if this doesn’t mean that EVERY bounce is going the Phillies way, then I don’t what does… smfh -__-

  110. The single most curious phenomenon of the 2009 Yankee season for me is the eagerness and frequency with which some Yankee fans want to proclaim a game over and lost before that game is over and lost. I have questions:

    1) Why do you feel the need to do this? What compels you do make that pronouncement?
    2) Is it out of joy, or dread, or some other emotion?
    3) What is this emotion borne from? Have you examined its source?
    4) Do you ever look at the results of those games and evaluate your pronouncement? If you have, have you course corrected, or are you content continuing your behavior in the face of countermanding evidence?

Please, enlighten me, people. You fascinate me.

    • AndrewYF says:

      It’s a coping mechanism.

    • Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Your right to call them out, but even mike just gave up

    • pete says:

it is actually an interesting psychological question. my guess would be that its a way of protecting yourself from the disappointment of your players letting you down – by accepting it now, it hurts less when they load the bases and don’t score. Not saying that’s gonna happen, just that people are trying to protect themselves by accepting a loss early.

    • claybeez says:

Not just 2009. It was the reason, I stopped having to follow Bronx Banter game threads a couple years ago. Why? Dunno. New Yorkers seem to expect perfection out of their local athletes. Maybe that. You know, the 1 bad inning/game signifying someone sucks/should be sent down/is never gonna amount to sh*t thing.

    • Evil Empire says:

Dude if you can figure out the psychological underlying of how these guys tick … I’d be impressed.

  111. Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

jesus christ we’re facing a magical warlock

  112. Reggie C. says:

    Lee is one cool cat.

    Damn.

I’m Tipping my cap. We’re not gonna get to you tonight. No sir.

  113. pete says:

woah woah woah cano. since when was you getting out there part of the plan?

  114. slappy white says:

    THIS FUCKING HURTS

  115. Brazilian Yankee says:

Comon Swisha, do your thing (pop out)

  116. BigBlueAL says:

The Phillies have been laughing all game long. I wouldnt be surprised if after the game Rollins changes his prediction to the Phillies in 4.

  117. That swing by Swisher was the best Yankee swing all night.

  118. DreDog says:

Why didn’t we trade for this guy again?

  119. Drew says:

C’mon Swish. Get it. Make shit happen baby

  120. Phanatic Philly says:

Did anyone really think that Lee and the Phils would make the Yankees look like the Mets? I for one did not.

  121. Jay says:

No post game interview of Lee by McCarver. He’ll just be blowing him.

  122. Nick…what are you looking at?

  123. southernyankeefan says:

    damn only 4 outs left.

  124. Brazilian Yankee says:

Right down the middle. Swisher shouldn’t be playing anymore.

  125. JMK aka The Overshare says:

At least don’t make it embarrassing, Nick.

  126. Raf says:

time for a comeback in the 9th when Lee leaves the game. hes been outstanding.

  127. Pags says:

    SWING SWISHER SWING!!!!

  128. Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

    swisher…….jeez

  129. PsiFighter37 says:

Swisher is garbage. Please put Hinske in tomorrow. K thx bai

  130. Holy crap! Someone got it to the outfield!

  131. MAMO says:

Look at all those pitches to Swisher on gameday… right down the middle. Pitchers are showing him no respect.

    • Hova says:

Why should they? The guy has been sucking it up the entire playoffs. Pitchers probably don’t even waste their time scouting him.

  132. Mike says:

They need to sit Swisher, he’s really horrible. I’m sorry but I bet some people on this blog could go 4/37 in the post season… This is an embarassment to our lineup, albeit Cliff Lee may be one of the better pitchers; this is just pathetic. Calling all Yankees batters… WAKE UP!

  133. Evil Empire says:

I’ve loved RAB for a couple years (just starting posting though) and I’ve loved the Yankees for my entire life. I’m not giving up on either you guys OR the team, not this game not fucking ever. And when all the negative nancies get proven wrong as we win it all, ima give you sons of bitches a virtual pat on the back and tell you not to do it in 2010.

  134. CT Yankee says:

    Number-9, Number-9, Number-9

  135. JackC says:

    A) Game’s not QUITE over yet

    B) I for one, as did most of us, thought the Yanks would win in 6. Which means Philly wins two. This is one of them.

    C) Someone check my math for B

  136. ansky says:

Ok Swisher is becoming a real concern. Cant hit in close games, cant hit in blowouts, doesnt hit when we’re winning and doesnt hit when we’re losing. I love the dude but he might need a break.

  137. ShuutoHeat says:

Ugh, this game and stomach problems the whole night = worst night in along time.

Regardless of outcome, gotta hold your head high for the Yankees.

  138. NYQ says:

    THIS IS PATHETIC!! =(

  139. danny says:

heh, that was a helluva sucky inning.

  140. southernyankeefan says:

Cliff Lee is a really good pitcher but the offense has got to do more than this bullshit.

  141. David A says:

So think Lee will come back for the 9th?

  142. Joe D. says:

Hold em here at 4. Top of the order in the 9th. When Lidge is the opposition’s closer, anything is possible.

    Let’s do this shit.

  143. baka nakamura says:

    cliff lee starring as scrooge.

  144. JMK aka The Overshare says:

Swish is batting something like .100 this postseason.

  145. Reggie C. says:

You what scares me more than losing game 1. Losing game 1 without having scored a single fucking run. I know Cliff Lee is the tits tonight , but FUCK. We’ve scratched out a run or two off dominant starters before. Doesn’t even have to be earned runs. Just make this a game!

  146. Drew says:

8 of the 9 last pitches have been straight down the fucking middle(go check gameday if you don;t believe it).

We have a really good shot in the bottom of the ninth. That shit won’t fly with our 1,2,3,4,5.

  147. DreDog says:

I am not worried. This game sucked, but it’s just one game. Nobody is going to make me believe that this team can’t win 4 out of 6 from anyone. They’ve been winning series after series all year. This will be no different. Walking into a hot pitcher comes with the territory.

    Confidence factor: 10

  148. nathan says:

Whats disappointing is that Joe G had too quick of a hook for Hughes.. i donno what it does long term in this series for Hughes’ confidence

Cant complain with 7 ip 2 runs from CC

The offense needs to wake up, atleast get the counts going, it would be quite the cofee to smell if Lee goes the distance with a shutout

    • Jay says:

Hughes can’t be walking guys that only get on base 30% of the time. That’s not a lack of confidence. It’s a lack of command.

    • trueblue says:

too quick? he turned a 2-0 game into a 4-0 game… Did you want to see him walk 4 or 5 more? The kid has ZERO faith in his stuff. The WS isn’t the place to find yourself

    • Brazilian Yankee says:

Dude, really? If anything Girardi shouldn’t even have pitched Phil in that 8th inning. He’s been horrible during the playoffs and it didn’t get any better tonight. AND Marte did his job.

  149. JMK aka The Overshare says:

24 is still on TV? I haven’t seen that show in like a decade.

  150. ShuutoHeat says:

    omg more 24?

    gimme a fucking break…

  151. Phanatic Philly says:

You guys have been great, this is an awesome site.
I wish the Phillie fans had one like this.
Well, good luck tomorrow. This game is over.

  152. Jay says:

I just hit the mute button. If I have to listen to any more man-love of Cliff Lee by Buck/McCarver I am going to be ill.

  153. Arman Tamzarian says:

I see no reason for Bruney here

  154. The Artist says:

Bruney throws a scoreless 9th, and he will be go-to guy for all the 2nd guessers.

  155. Hugh Jassman says:

    Oh well. Bedtime.

  156. Drew says:

    Bruney didn’t walk anyone. Woot.

  157. Hova says:

Start Hinske in RF in game 2. Maybe his bat will have some magic. Swisher has been atrocious.

    • Mike Pop says:

Something I would consider as spur of the moment.

      • Hova says:

I know, but its just not happening for Swisher. How many times do we keep putting him out there. I understand he can work counts and plays decent defense, but he can’t hit in any situation.

    • The Artist says:

Yeah, I’ve seen enough of Swish. It’s not like were overreacting to one game, he’s been bad the entire month.

But Girardi loves him, and thinks that when he breaks out he could go on a tear. We’ll see.

  158. JobaWockeeZ says:

Heh no one is complaining about Bruney.

  159. ansky says:

i hope the Yankees watch the replays of this game and see all the Phillies laughing in the dugout. I hope this pisses them the fuck off and they wake up and take it out on Pedro. I would LOVE to see a 5 spot in the first inning tomorrow.

    • ShuutoHeat says:

They need to repeatedly show the Yankees that nonchalant catch by Cliff Lee to pound in the whole idea.

  160. nathan says:

Bottom 9,Alex is the typing run… GS would be nice..

  161. Jake H says:

Lee pitched the game of his career but the Yanks didn’t make him work at all. That at bat by swisher was what they did all night. An 87 mph cutter and it freezes him. An 87 mph pitch shouldn’t freeze any hitter.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

If you are sitting on something else, any pitch can freeze you. Lee has been great, just tip your cap and move on.

      • Jake H says:

Lee has been great but the Yankees helped him out a ton. He hung some pitchers in the first, got through it and never looked back. They never tried to break his routine by stepping out multiple times at an at bat.

  162. Pags says:

Where’s that guy that took a bath in Anaheim’s Disney-waterfall? We could use something to loosen things up here.

  163. JMK aka The Overshare says:

    We’ve missed you, Brian!

  164. ansky says:

    the icing? FUCK YOU McCarver!

  165. Drew says:

Fuck you Mccarver. The cake and the icing?

  166. BigBlueAL says:

Well Peter Gammons did say the Phillies had the advantage at Catcher with Ruiz over Posada.

Still cant believe he said that last night….

  167. Tony says:

WE PLAY TOMORROW, WE WIN TOMORROW

  168. Raf says:

talk about every bounce going their way. ugh

  169. baka nakamura says:

charlie manuel with the michael jackson glove.

  170. HolyGhostClaw says:

FOX keeps freezing up. Maybe it will explode and the rest of the series will be moved over to YES.

  171. gxpanos says:

Anyone else giving any thought to Mo here? Keep this at four for the top of the lineup?

  172. ansky says:

hmm…i think i’ve realized the Yankees plan. Let the Phils have this one so they can develop a false sense of confidence…then CRUSH them in then next four games. Cool. I’m down with that.

  173. Souter Fell says:

    i gotta punch out,

  174. baka nakamura says:

    yikes.

  175. JMK aka The Overshare says:

Well at least we got to see Brian. I’ve missed him.

  176. Doug says:

    …yeah Bruney doesn’t have it.

  177. ansky says:

Heh, anyone else still glad Bruney’s on the WS roster?

  178. BigBlueAL says:

I didnt say anything when he started the inning, but seriously what the fuck was Bruney doing pitching tonight????

  179. Drew says:

This is bummer fest 2009. We will score some runs in the 9th though.

  180. Raf says:

yeah Bruney was the “hope he can make it work in this spot” move. stop them here Coke.

  181. Hova says:

Damn, where has the bullpen gone? This is depressing.
