Brazilian Yankee says:

I’m not sure about Joba in this bandbox… I just hope it works.

Jake H says:

Robbie needs a Swishering

G FUnk says:

Cano…oh cano…

Tank the Frank says:

Joba? What do you guys think?

Joker, The says:

Maybe they should start Hairston for Cano tomorrow…hey, it worked for Swish.

Swish does great on the road. Cano’s just been bad.

JackC says:

Actually, there are far worse ideas

Pasqua says:

Eh. I think you start Cano against the righty tomorrow in the hopes that it gets him going. Especially if the Yanks hold on and win this one.

I don’t think so. He’s not hitting, but he’s been an absolute stud on defense this series.

Hugh Jassman says:

I say Marte. Get him in there.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

He took the train from Delaware I bet!

bonestock94 says:

I trust Joba, I think he can do it.

ansky says:

Thats no Ronan Tynan.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Yeah, what a Schindler!

G FUnk says:

haha Joe Bidens wife, rocking the hat during God Bless America…. 10 bucks says that will be on Yahoo tomorrow.

whozat says:

Women don’t take their hats off…

Hall and Nokes says:

Anyone else think the Phils should have gone with Ronan Tynan here?

Pasqua says:

1) Eric Gregg is back, and he’s an old, white dude.
2) Cano is pouting.
3) I hope Durbin’s lack of control is mechanical and not due to the rain, because if it’s due to the rain, heaven help Joba.

Esteban says:

Agree on all these things

Jay says:

Surprised Phillies fans aren’t booing this guy.

Souter Fell says:

swish homerun, maybe the BP can return to form too

slappy white says:

I am seriously getting tired of Cano blowing those fucking bubbles after he strikes out with runners on, id like to smack it down his throat…..tough love of coarse

Doug says:

Coarse. Just how your mother likes it, Trebek!

Joe D. says:

I’ll take “Phillies Shortstops Who Need To Shut the Fuck Up” for $1,000, Alex.

swisher's fauxhawk says:

My name is Nick Swisher and I approve this message.

claybeez says:

Was that the Governor of California? That’s what I imagine he’s sound like.

V says:

Ok, this umpire has been giving a foot outside against LHB all night long. That BETTER continue.

gxpanos says:

Robbie’s AB’s have been abominable lately, just awful.

LET’S GO BP!

Salty Buggah says:

To the person who asked if Robbie should get some horse blinders so he doesn’t the runners on base:
I wonder if Alex has any laying around his room.

/more lame jokes

claybeez says:

Was me. Lame, but kinda funny.

Riddering says:

The bullpen is going to get it done. Tonight’s our night.

dalelama says:

What is wrong with Cano ? It is amazing we are winning with Tex and Cano outs. It seems like Cano doesn’t give a crap.

claybeez says:

I heard he hates baseball. Wanted to play water polo.

JMK aka The Overshare says:
claybeez says:

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

tex is at least taking pitches, having good at bats, even if he seems to lack the ability to connect at the end right now. cano is just lost

whozat says:

Yeah, he couldn’t be frustrated with himself, could he? A professional baseball player in his first world series probably doesn’t care, though, you’re right.

Esteban says:

Is good Joba back?

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Id rather see drob. better control.

Jay says:

Thing is, I hope Girardi doesn’t bring in right handed pitched just to face Rollins and then pull him. It’s just a waste because you’re going to pinch hit in the 8th so just bring Coke or Marte in now and let him pitch the whole inning. You have Rollins, two lefties, switch hitting Beefarino and then Ibanez.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

victorino, righty, in between

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

k sorry i had no idea victorino was a switch hitter. totally forgot. my bad.

Jay says:

Whoops. Got the lineup wrong. It still stands. This is dumb. Bringing in Joba to face 2 guys.

Dave G says:

C’mon Joba. Take us to Mo.

bobtaco says:

Just throw strikes Joba, that is all you need to do…

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Oh lord, it’s Joba. I’m scared even though he got a quick out.

And the last time people worried Joba did good. Let’s have some faith in the guy.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I bite me tongue. IT’S BLEEDING! THE PAIN, OH THE PAIN!!!!!

Alex S says:
whozat says:

Last year’s free agent predictions from MLBTR? Why would we care?

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Shhh…he thinks he has to turn the clock back a year, not an hour. This is current stuff.

HolyGhostClaw says:

Pettite start in RF tomorrow? Let Swish Catch?

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

hinske plays second?

slappy white says:

Dear Mo, Please dont let Joe G. overmanage the bullpen

JSquared says:

That first pitch to Victorino was called on us… twice? at the top of the inning?

JackC says:

Surprised no Marte or COke here?

bobtaco says:

Who stole the binder?

Jay says:

Whoa. Sticking with Joba.

Ballsy. I like it.

MikeD says:

…it even looks like a bandbox from above. If the Yankees played in this park against the NL, they’d hit 300+ HRs.

ShuutoHeat says:

JoeFromBayRidge says:

Good for Girardi sticking with Joba. Regardless of outcome.

slappy white says:

We got the GOOD JOBA tonight….let him get 3 more outs

Jay says:

Alex S says:

damn i thought Utley hit at least a double there

claybeez says:
Dave G says:

Melky with the fake throw to to the Philly faithful.

JSquared says:

Melky Fake’d Em’… AGAIN!! LOSERS IN PHILLY!!

Jake H says:

Melky faking the Philly fans.

Brazilian Yankee says:

Now that’s impressive work. Vintage Joba.

Will says:

LOL MELKY, with the little fake toss.

Pasqua says:

Hurts so good. Nice job, Joba. Easier than expected.

Kevin in CT says:

Ha, Melky dekes the fans again. I can’t imagine the venom they are spitting his way

Jersey says:

Damn, Joba looking strong. That’s a GREAT sign.

Esteban says:

yea, hopefully good (or better) Joba is back

Well, Utley hit a rocket. But yes, it’s definite progress.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

great job by joba. use the big part of the park.

swisher's fauxhawk says:

Salty Buggah says:

Nice 1-2-3 Joba!

Man, does Utley have a short, quick, and extremely powerful swing or what?!

G FUnk says:

agreed…. more tack on runs…. MATSUSHI TIME

Utley is 0 for 9 since the second homer off CC.

Alex S says:

marte for the 8th?

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

I love Melky and his attitude..he would be a complete package if hit .20 pts higher in BA.

Kristen says:

Every time he fakes the throw into the stands my heart grows 3 sizes.

slappy white says:

and they fall for it every time

Avg is decent but I’d like 20 or more points in OBP.

Riddering says:

Nice job, Joba! The bullpen is going to get it done tonight.

bonestock94 says:

LOL at Melky faking out the fans again. He’s hilarious.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

“Suck my nuts” in Spanish?

EB says:

Utley mashes LHP. Joba always had utley. Marte for howard

For sure. Joba’s due up this inning.

Dave G says:

6 outs away, fellows. 6 outs away.

Jay says:

Boy it has gotten quiet in Philly, hasn’t it?

Hadn’t noticed because Joe Buck hasn’t said anything unlike game 2 when he said it every 2 seconds.

slappy white says:

he only insults Yankee fans

Zack says:

They must have replaced the real fans with guys in business suits and blackberries

Reggie C. says:

Brett Meyers.

Now we’re getting into the better portion of the Phillie bp.

Joe D. says:

Which consists of:

* Brett Myers.

(End List)

Jake H says:

Is Swisher going with a new stance?

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

hughes to follow marte? or straight to mo?

I’d have him follow Marte. Howard is so weak against LHP, it’s not even funny.

JoeFromBayRidge says:

Utley mashes pitching because he a great hitter. Girardi could have burned 3 pitchers but stuck with Joba and Joba rewarded him with a fly out. Now you go Marte into Hughes and hope you only need Mo for 3 with 3 games in a row.

Reggie C. says:

Mats pinch hitting for Joba?

Renny Baseball says:

WELCOME TO NOVEMBER BASEBALL!

Joe D. says:

Paging Derek Jeter.

Derek Jeter, please pick up the white courtesy phone in the on-deck circle.

Yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Hey guys just came back trick or treating with ma nephew and little cuzins. I notice that swisher change his batting style a little bit.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Godzilla looming ominously, waiting to obliterate philadelphia tokyo-style

whozat says:

Dude, what the hell kinda strike zone is this???

Hugh Jassman says:

They are trying to help out the pitchers maybe? Since we have the lead, I’m all for it as long as its consistent.

V says:

Goddamnit Joe, let Joba pitch the 8th.

whozat says:

What? Why? Why is Joba v Howard a matchup you want?? Frankly, I have no idea why Marte or Coke isn’t facing howard with Hughes after him.

Souter Fell says:

the ump got someplace to be?

CanoFTW says:

wow those outside strikes have all been a good 6 inches off the plate

southernyankeefan says:

Who gives a shit about Myers and his bowling skills.

Shawbler says:

How many times is the Umpire gonna call that outside strike against the Yanks?

swisher's fauxhawk says:

Brett Myers bowled a 298 two summers ago! 298!

MikeD says:

298? If he was clutch, he’d have broken 300.

Brazilian Yankee says:

That takes the cake as the ugliest swing of the night.

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

awesome joke, Joe Buck!!!!

EB says:

the oustide of the plate is awful long right now

bobtaco says:

Salty Buggah says:

Bad Melky. Do not swing at those.

Will says:

wasn’t tim mccarver at least a competent announcer like 10 years ago? yeah, those days are long gone.

Scott says:

can we hit Cano after the pitcher tomorrow?

JMK aka The Overshare says:

That ball almost hit him. Oh Melky!

V says:

Reggie C. says:

Do you even go with Mo tonight?

40 pitches 2 nights ago. If the 3 run margin holds for the 9th why not just save Mo for tomorrow when the run margin could be closer.

Jeff Nelson says:

If Girardi takes out Joba I’m going throw my tv out the window.

CanoFTW says:

except he just got pinch hit for by matsui who proceeded to put one in left field

Zack says:

Guess u need a new tv

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Joe Buck was quick to mention in gm2 that crowd showed up at 9:04PM but I am still waiting for him to announce that crowd has left since 2nd inning.

chriskeo says:

Taking out Joba makes sense, now you can use him tomorrow without an issue.

Salty Buggah says:

MATSUI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Obnoticus says:

Yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

seeee yaaaaaaaaaaa

southernyankeefan says:

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

Matsui-SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANN

Riddering says:

Matsui is a professional hitter.

EB says:

i love this saying

G FUnk says:

MikeD says:

Souter Fell says:

pinch hit homer baby!!!!!

Will says:

First homer in November!

MikeD says:

Hmmm…has anyone ever hit a HR in November not a Yankee?

slappy white says:

A THRILLA BY GODZILLA

Jake H says:

Nice, more insurance run.

Brazilian Yankee says:

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Jay says:

Oh how sweet it is!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I pick you, Matsuichu!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Shawbler says:

Godzilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jersey says:

Pffff. Matsui making it look easy. MONEY.

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Thrilla by godzilla…

Reggie C. says:

MATS sssssssoooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Esteban says:

Godzilla’s on a rampage

Awesome. Tack those runs on. No mercy.

Joe D. says:

Mr. November-San!

Well -san is the equivalent of Mr…
.nit pick

Joe D. says:

claybeez says:

Oh my, Matsui goes bye-bye

swisher's fauxhawk says:

Godzilla go BOOM!

Joker, The says:

GODZILLA!

BRILLIANT MOVE JOE G!

ShuutoHeat says:

fucking bandbox

hey, where’s the friggin crowd? drying their eyes with the towels?

Riddering says:

Hiding their children’s faces so they don’t have to be humiliated on camera like the Angels girl.

ShuutoHeat says:

Reggie C. says:

Can i say it?

No Mo tonight????

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

I’m loving Matsui in the much-much-much-better-matt stairs role

Doug says:
ShuutoHeat says:

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT~!!!!

G FUnk says:

this better not get postponed…

V says:

Man, everytime I call someone out, they deliver.

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

we drank every time buckarver mentioned money game 2. Chivas Regal style!!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

How’s the charcoal tasting?

Mariano's Pimp Hand says:

Myers can beat his wife but he can’t beat the Yanks. LOL

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

His wife refuses to kiss him…

Salty Buggah says:

Sooooo…does this count or has this already gone down as a loss because of that early 3-0 deficit?

NYTraveller says:

whozat says:

Well, since the teams clearly swapped jerseys in the third (I mean, the YANKEES can’t hit like this), this loss is basically already in the books.

Joe D. says:

Salty, this is all exhibition.

We lost 3-0 hours ago.

And Andy is not a Big Game Pitcher.

I’m Brazilian Yankee and I approve this message.

Quikksand says:

Joe D. says:

I guess we’re feeling nice, after all.

Phillies in six.

/Rollins’d

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

it is still possible. don’t jinx it

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Only fools believe in jinxes. Like the entire cities of Chicago and Boston. And Cleveland.

Fools.

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

let’s go Phil! Control the Pace!

Jay says:

Ok, so here is a Q. Assuming the Yanks get out of the 8th with no runs scored. If you can get past Howard, Werth and Ibanez, do you bring in Mo to start the 9th with the 7-8-9 batters due?

Jay says:

That’s assuming of course, the Yankees don’t even add any in the 9th. I’d love for Mo to have another night off.

Pasqua says:

Why wouldn’t you? “Save situations” are for the regular season. This is the World Series.

bobtaco says:

I doubt Joe is ballsy enough to do that… but you have either Hughes or Drob then

JMK aka The Overshare says:

That man should not be allowed to take Cialis. Total pedo.

Riddering says:

Let’s get 3 quick outs in the bottom for about 2.5 minutes, spend ten minutes scoring runs in the top of the ninth, and then go 1-2-3 again the bottom of the ninth in 1.5 minutes. Then no worry about the rain.

Pasqua says:

FOX is pimping the Werth at bat. “Hey Phils fans! Jason Werth has hit two HR’s tonight! Watch him go for a third that WON’T give the Phillies a lead!”

Girardi out to the mound says:

Speaking of Matsui…

Key situation, middle of the game, Cano, Swish, Melk coming up.

Do you pinch hit for any of them?

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

I think its very hard to pinch hit for cano, despite his awfulness right now, he’s just too good a player, and his defense is excellent. I think melky’s defense is too good to lose, and he doesn’t look too lost. Maybe swisher, depending on the pitcher.

chriskeo says:

To answer MikeD down here, Steve Finley and Rod Barajas both hit home runs on November 1, 2001 in game 5.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Haven’t heard steve finley’s name in quite a while. I always liked him.

PaulF says:

I think they should make every effort not to use Mo, that way you can go CC-Mo tomorrow.

True but they’re going to need more than a 4 run lead.

PaulF says:

why not let someone else start the 9th and only bring in mo if there is a baserunner?

Doug says:

Hideki is November-san!

Tank the Frank says:

I think Hughes dominates this inning. He’s had his wakeup call and he’s too good of a pitcher to stay down for long.

Tank the Frank says:

Well, that is to say, if he pitches…

Tank Foster says:

G FUnk says:

actually if the rain game mo an extra day to rest… it aint all bad…

Tank Foster says:

Matsui! Hideki-san. Ichiban san!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

That was beautiful.

Esteban says:

LOL @ Howard trying to hit a lefty.

Hat trick. I’m loving Howard getting destroyed out there.

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

King of Swing….miss

Alex S says:

EB says:

Marte is spitting hot fire

southernyankeefan says:

Nice. sit down Howard.

G FUnk says:

Is Joe trying to save hughes for the 9th??

bobtaco says:

Really? Marte to Werth? Wow.

Girardi out to the mound says:

Why the hell is Marte pitching to Werth?

David A says:

whoa marte vs werth??

Hall and Nokes says:

Man, the crazy things you can do with a 4 run lead.

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

It would be awesome if Mo can rest tonight..

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

I like the call of leaving Marte in so he can face Ibanez after Werth.

Jake H says:

Do you like Marte pitching to the Philly’s hottest hitter?

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Ibanez is up next..

A-Rod in Games 1 & 2 was the first player in history to strikeout 3+ times in back to back WS games. Ryan Howard is the second member of that club now.

Girardi out to the mound says:

Funny how Buck and McCarver failed to mention that

Both those players tied Lou Gehrig’s consecutive post-season games with an RBI this year as well.

/Kirkjian’d

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I raised Dustin Pedroia in a tree house.

/Kirkjian’d

Joe D. says:

That is really nuts.

In all of World Series history.

Sterling: “You just can’t predict baseball! If you can, then mister, you’re a better man than I.”

swisher's fauxhawk says:

And there you have World Series hero Ryan Howard striking out for the seventh time in consecutive games.

Do you rest Mo if we have a 4 run lead?

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Phillies fans honestly don’t know who the fuck is winning. Don’t they know simple math?

PaulF says:

I love the Yankees suck chant when we’re winning

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Jay says:

Well…Phillies fans are at least very drunk. Starting a “Yankees suck” chant down by 4 runs.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

If posada had stayed where he was that may have been a strike

Pasqua says:

High. But with this ump, ya never know.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

My thoughts exactly

Pasqua says:

Despite the cross-up, Marte and Jorge still cup each other’s asses. That’s love.

Riddering says:

Damn, I missed that.

Salty Buggah says:

Yankees suck chant while being down 4? Makes sense

PaulF says:

they chanted it when they were winning 3-0 too.

Philly fans don’t go to watch baseball, they go to chant.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

How in the heck did he get to that ball?

Camilo Gerardo - your inception? fuck perception, go with what makes sense says:

damaso can drop the angle?

G FUnk says:

Football Buck…. really… Football plug???…

Now Cricket???

Gutterballs?

Who the hell are these guys

Alex S says:

bobtaco says:

Marte is on fucking fire.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Yes, Marte is MONEY!!!

Jersey says:

Wow. Marte with the K. Get Ibanez here and then…?

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Marte..bringing fire..

Way to go, Damaso.

slappy white says:

Werth, You are not Reggie……sit the fuck down

CanoFTW says:

Marte = 2009 Graeme Lloyd?

Greg G. says:

Thinking the same thing.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Damaso looking like the guy we gave up jose tabata for

count crapulent says BOO to you sir says:

Phillies fans are so obnoxious in NY. I think they’re drunk no matter what. They’d have to be to live in Philadelphia.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Marte has easily been our most reliable reliever this post-season (outside of Mo, of course).

Reggie C. says:

As Tank said: Marte is money.

Jake H says:

This is the Marte we all thought was going to pitch during the year.

Pasqua says:

We should lock this Marte guy up for a couple of years!

Wait. We gave him how much…?

JMK aka The Overshare says:

ISETC (I sorta enjoy this comment).

rockdog says:

Girardi out to the mound says:

Marte looking like the guy we traded for

Esteban says:

Damaso looks good tonight

Tony says:

I always had faith in Damaso. Trust in cash.

Michael says:

Hughes for the 9th? Save Rivera in case you need 4+ outs tomorrow?

Alex S says:

Alex S says:

MARTE!!!!!! muthafucka

Yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Good job marteeeeeeee

Jake H says:

Yankee BP showing why everyone thought this would be why they would win.

JPM says:

Marte has been so much better in the playoffs. El Duque syndrome?

Esteban says:

he’s always been good and now he’s healthy, it’s not surprising

Wow, Damaso Marte finally looking like Damaso Marte, huh? Tip ‘o the cap to that man.

Salty Buggah says:

See, Marte doesn’t suck. Haters are wrong!

Brazilian Yankee says:

Marte really stepped up his game for the playoffs. Just in time!

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Now I really know how much we missed Marte during the regular season.

Zack says:

A healthy and effective Marte = :)

swisher's fauxhawk says:

Hughes for the 9th?

southernyankeefan says:

Got to love what Marte has done lately.

Quikksand says:

yankees > phillies

Joker, The says:

Marte has been fucking ridonkulous this postseason.

count crapulent says BOO to you sir says:

I’m glad Marte is looking like the pitcher we thought he could be when we signed him. Gangsta.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

TSJC, wherever you are, I was wrong about marte. You were right. All praise and worship to you.

JackC says:

I don’t know what that guy on the mound for the Yanks in the 8th did with the Damaso Marte we’ve seen all this tear, and quite frankly I don’t ever want to know

Dave G says:

A loud “Let’s go Yankees” chant swirling around Citizen’s Bank Park

G FUnk says:

Lets add a couple more… make sure mo doesnt even have to get up today..

EB says:

Damaso spits hot fire.

Joe G gets a lot of shit, but pay him his due… he seems to learn from his mistakes. He is no stubborn fool

Hall and Nokes says:

That was like stealing their lunch money.

Pasqua says:

Great inning by Marte.

Now, here’s a curiosity question.

Let’s say the rain was to pick up right now and they couldn’t continue tonight. Would they really push back Game 4 to Monday just to play 1 inning of baseball tomorrow? Or, do you think they would tack on the ninth inning to the scheduled game and play it a little while before Game 4?

I’m sure it won’t happen, but it’s intriguing to me.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Boost mobile pigs: where you at?

Stadium Garlic Fries says:

Marte making cashman proud..he was the one move past offseason which hadn’t worked out in regular season but paying dividends now..

MikeD says:

…a fallen friend? Disturbing.

Michael says:

Hughes could use the confidence by facing bottom of the order, too. You might need him in a tough spot later in the Series.
