Open Thread: A time lapse of the World Series

World Series Time-Lapse by Robert Caplin from Robert Caplin on Vimeo.

That’s pretty damn cool, is it not?

(h/t Belth and Lens)

Here’s your open thread for the night. The awful Knicks and even awfuller Nets are both in action tonight, but I’m not feeling very masochistic tonight, so I’ll pass. Talk about whatever you like, just be nice.

There is a category called “I can has cheezburger” on jeopardy tonight. This makes me sad. At least it’s not actually about lolcats

  2. pat says:

Ok this is a random hypothetical thing I’ve been pondering….

There’s a player that hits a homerun every single time he comes up to bat. How many would he actually hit in a season? I’d say 80 tops.

  3. Rocky Road Redemption (formerly RAB poster) says:

Is Hamels a FA next year? For some reason I think he is.

He’d be a nice guy to pick up. A bit of a wackjob but he has great potential, is a leftie, and has performed big on the big stage.

  4. JMK aka The Overshare says:

The Knicks managed to play their first good possession of defense this season. The result? They somehow manage to allow the Pacers to have FOUR offensive rebounds in that one possession, and end up giving up a three-pointer. It’s actually kind of impressive.

    I love this team.

  5. vinny-b says:

if Toronto will extend an extension window for Halladay, then i have NO problem moving Joba in this trade.

    Joba Chamberlain
    Ian Kennedy
    Mike Dunn

personally, i don’t expect the Blue Jays can do any better then this

  6. but I’m not feeling very masochistic tonight

That’s not what your mother said last night, Axisa!

  7. Matt k says:

I just got my Nike ad “NY stands for new york” in the mail from poster printed on 24 x 36. All I did was send them the JPEG. Came out great not perfect resolution but still excellent.

  8. JMK aka The Overshare says:

I’d definitely trade Jared Jeffries for Jason Collier. Get it done, Walsh!

      • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Dead is such a harsh term to assign to his condition.

        • Kaffee: Colonel, when you learned of Santiago’s letter to the NIS, you had a meeting with your two senior officers, is that right?
          Jessep: Yes.
Kaffee: The Executive Officer, Lt. Jonathan Kendrick, and the Company Commander, Captain Matthew Markinson.
          Jessep: Yes.
Kaffee: And at present, Captain Markinson is dead, is that right?
Ross: Objection! I’d like to know just what defense counsel is implying?
Kaffee: I’m implying simply that, at present, Captain Markinson is not alive.

          • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Stop it, I can’t handle the truth!

            • I was actually about to break out the A Few Good Men reference in the thread before, when Stuckey tried to tell me that I hadn’t said “I doubt that Cashman inquired about Halladay”.

Jessep: Private Santiago was a sub-standard marine. He was being transferred off the base because –
Kaffee: That’s NOT what you said. You said he was being transferred because he was in grave danger.
Jessep: Yes. That’s correct, but –
Kaffee: You said, “He was in danger”. I said, “Grave danger?” You said, “Is there another kin–
Jessep: Yes, I recall what –
Kaffee: I can have the Court Reporter read back your –
Jessep: I know what I said. I don’t need it read back to me like I’m a damn –
Kaffee: Then why the two orders? (pause) Colonel? (pause) Why did you –
Jessep: Sometimes men take matters into their own hands.
Kaffee: No sir. You made it clear just a moment ago that your men never take matters into their own hands. Your men follow orders or people die. So Santiago shouldn’t have been in any danger at all, should he have, Colonel?
              Jessep: You little bastard.

  9. Matt k says:

Kind of an odd question. Iam looking for a JPEG of the Sports Illustrated Picture from the All time team. The one that was a double fold out with all the greatest players photo shopped into the dug out together. I want to get that made into a poster but cant find it anywhere.

Kentucky man arrested while masturbating in the library – watching a wrestling video.

  11. JMK aka The Overshare says:

Danny Granger has 30 points. WE HAVEN’T EVEN FINISHED THE 2ND QUARTER!!!

And they just caught the ball. Out of bounds. Again.

  12. Rocky Road Redemption (formerly RAB poster) says:

TSJC, this one’s for you. Check the seventh award.

BTW, I’m Wait till they come

  13. Look who’s got a Twitter account!!!

My prediction: these tweets will have no juice.

  14. Moshe Mandel says:

I want to stab the Knicks.

  15. JMK aka The Overshare says:

There’s not one player on the Knicks that would be the third best player on a GOOD team.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

True, although I do think they have some decent pieces for the future- I like Gallinari and Chandler, and think Douglas can be a nice bench guard.

      • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Yeah, Gallo and Chandler could be fairly good pieces in the future. I don’t see Chandler ever really being a complete player or a top-15 SG/SF in the league. Gallinari has a nice stroke and seems to have better athleticism than most Euro players. He’ll need to bulk up, be more aggressive, learn how to rebound, defend and play better off the ball. Until then, he’s just a shooter, albeit a good one.

Douglas is just a nice bench scoring guard. Unless he had Arenas-like scoring potential, he’s a liability out there.

        • Moshe Mandel says:

Douglas also brings good defense, a rarity on this club. And I see Gallo as a real talent- worst case scenario he is a big time gunner, best case he bulks up and uses the athleticism you mentioned ala Toni Kucoc. Chandler is a tweener who will never be a top player, but he can be a rotation guy on a winner.

          • JMK aka The Overshare says:

All things considered, Douglas was a steal that late in the draft. But people seem to think he’ll be Nate with defense. Yeah, his D will be better, but he’s nowhere near a lockdown defender or tall enough to play 2 guards. He’s not as natural scorer as Nate, but he seems to be a far more intelligent player, despite not being a good ball distributor. I think he’ll eventually be a huge overall upgrade over Nate, but that’s mostly because Robinson is incredibly overrated.

    • False: Charles Oakley.

Oakley’s still on the Knicks, right? Please say yes.

  16. Anthony says:

How do you step out of bounds THREE times in a game? Oh right, you’re the Knicks..

  17. Moshe Mandel says:

Curry looks like an NBA player.

Quick, trade him!!!! Is Chris Wallace still employed? Mike Dunleavy?

    • Anthony says:

Imagine how sweet it’d be if we actually shedded his contract and could offer TWO max deals. LeBron and Wade/Bosh/Johnson, freakin’ sweet.

  18. Anthony says:

It’s not really surprising that the Knicks are playing their best defense when David Lee is not in the lineup. I love the guy, but the dude is a turnstile on defense, I used to think you keep him as a role player after the ’10 free agent splurge but I’m not so sure anymore.

  19. Moshe Mandel says:

Two players that I thought would be scrubs, Hibbert and Hansbrough, combine for 28 points. The Knicks stink.

  20. Reggie C. says:

    Dantay Jones pwned Lee.

    Knicks are a mess.

  21. Reggie C. says:

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Mazal Tov. He woke up with 6 minutes to play. He wants to be the alpha dog, yet he disappears in some games and takes 30 shots in others.

      • Anthony says:

Yeah with all those three pointers he puts up, a few had to drop in finally.

      • JMK aka The Overshare says:

He also aimlessly spins around and heaves the ball toward the net or takes threes from 30 feet out with a guy in his face.

I just want to see some guys that don’t play like they just had lobotomies. I want some guys with decent basketball IQs.

  22. Anthony says:

Good god Mo, could the Knicks pull this one out?

    • JMK aka The Overshare says:

No. It won’t happen. Mark it down. I have absolutely no faith in the Knicks. None. Zero. Zilch.

      • Anthony says:

The Pacer’s best player just fouled out, and I’m still not convinced the Knicks can do it.

        • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Even up three with about a minute left, this is what I expect to see:

Knicks down one with 14 seconds to go. Duhon takes it up, makes a bullet pass to…a cutting Robinson and a cutting Harrington. The two players collide, fight for the ball and scream. Harrington wrestles the ball away from Nate, stands up, is called for travelling, makes a spin move anyway, steps out of bounds and heaves a three-pointer as time expires.

          • Rocky Road Redemption (formerly RAB poster) says:

Now aren’t you sorry you posted that now?

            • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Not at all. I just have to revise the date. It will happen. Weird things happen. For instance, sometimes I don’t have to drug the girl to get some. That happens very rarely, but it does happen. The Knicks won. Happens pretty rarely, but it can happen.

The Knicks will lose in such a fashion. It’s not a question of if; it’s a question of when. Probably against the Nets on Saturday.

        • Rocky Road Redemption (formerly RAB poster) says:

This sounds remarkably similar to the recent Nets-Heat game.

Believe it or not, the Nets lost…

(Nets’ 1st win-over the Knicks. Book it.)

  23. Moshe Mandel says:

    Victory!!!!! Trade Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Anthony says:

    • JMK aka The Overshare says:

We’d have a fighting chance in March Madness. We might make a 6 seed.

      • Speaking of, it pisses me off that my alma mater only won by nine points against my former school.

        • JMK aka The Overshare says:

Don’t feel bad. My school place well in ultimate frisbee and competitive video gaming (seriously). That’s it.

Huskies should be good this year, or so I’m told.

          • Oh they’ll be good. Probably not Final-Four good, but they’ll be solid. Two thirds of the front court is still relatively unproven, but I have full faith in the backcourt. Walker + Dyson will be a very good one/two guard duo. The former just has to learn how to harness his speed a bit and maybe work on his outside game. The only glaring weakness I see in them–as per usual–is three point shooting.

  25. Steve H says:

The only thing about the Knicks I give a shit about is Gallinari, as he is on my fantasy team. Can someone who watched explain to me how he did absolutely nothing???

No, seriously. Break up the Knicks.

  27. JMK aka The Overshare says:

Ever get really wasted and play a pick-up game of HORSE? Except your buddies think it’s a regular pick-up game? You’re heaving shots, falling on your ass, doing granny shots. The other guys pick their spots, defend you and don’t take fadeaway spinning heel-kick heaves from the half-court line. Your buddies are going to win.

  28. Steve H says:

Jamarcus Russell benched for Bruce Gradkowski.

Considering the financial implications, he’s on his way to being the worst #1 pick of all time in the NFL, if not all sports.

    • Mike Pop says:

Seems like he doesn’t even care either.

Which is kind of a funny thing.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

I’ve been wrong on QB’s before (Rex Grossman comes to mind, I loved him coming out of school), but I’ve never been more right than I was on Russell. I hated that pick.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

This could actually make for a fun list.
Off the top of my head:

Players I’ve been very wrong on:

        Matt Leinart
        Reggie Bush
        Rex Grossman
        Matt Ryan
        Braylon Edwards
        Brandon Jacobs

        Players I’ve been right on:
        E. Manning
        Mario Williams
        Aaron Rodgers
        Cedric Benson

        • The Cedric Benson and Eli Manning ones intrigue me as “being right on”.

Benson looked like a bust until this year. Were you right on him being a bust, or right on him not being a bust? Because he’s been both.

And as for Eli Manning… I’d say he’s not a bust and not a success either. He’s still very in between. Eli’s certainly not a top-5 NFL QB, but he was taken like one, lauded like one, and paid like one. What does it mean to say you were “right” on him? What did you think he’d be?

Ditto Aaron Rogers. I need more clarity on what you were “right” on and “wrong” on on these ones… hell, I need more clarity on ALL of these names. These classifications are way too ambiguous.

          • Moshe Mandel says:

I called Benson as a bust- 9 good games doesnt change my mind.

I called Rodgers as a Pro Bowl type QB. He’s 4th in QB rating despite awful protection and actually had a great year last year and had a good case for the Pro Bowl (top 3 in NFC in most important categories).

And I said that Manning would be a solid QB at best, and would be the worst of the 3 guys taken at the top of that draft.

            • Gracias, thanks.

You’re wrong on Benson, BTW. The Bears offense has been a traveshamockery for decades, and Benson’s now showing his true talent level since he’s actually running behind a quality line and has a QB that defenses respect. He’s not a worldbeater, but he’s not a bust. He’ll be good there in Cincy for a while.

  29. Sydney McCartney says:

Every time I see any video baseball related, I get a really depressed feeling. I’ve got a bad case of baseball withdrawal. I managed to avoid it until a few days when I watched a clip of Pettitte pitching in Game 6 and since then I’ve been sad. :(.
