First, I am NOT saying the Duch guy can make it in New York, because we just won't know that until they arrive (remember the randy johnson experiment?), but IBS and depression are not necessarily going to effect his performance on the field.

My son is twelve and has stress and anxiety related IBS and depression (possibly bipolar, but too young to diagnose yet and we have had a lot of deaths in our immediate family the past 8 years), however he THRIVES under pressure on the mound. The bigger the stage and higher the stakes, the better he is. He takes medication to control the IBS and baseball helps control the depression. He has told me that baseball is the one place where he can forget about everything else that weighs on him.

I'm just saying, don't count a guy out because of physical things that are beyond his control...

risk/reward.. Joba and Hughes could in all likelihood out-pitch Lackey, but because they didn't come out pitching like Koufax/Clemens in their rookie years in the bright lights of NY, they are question marks... That, sir, is bullshit

What are you talking about?

Lackey has pitched almost 1000 innings over the last 5 seasons with an ERA under 3.5. He's been the number 1 starter on a great team and has started 12 playoff games, including throwing a gem in a World Series game 7.

How can you say that the questions about whether Joba, Hughes, Sheets, Bedard, Harden, and Vasquez can perform as starting pitchers next year are even close to real as whatever questions you have about John Lackey?

In Sheets last 840 IP, he's got a 3.24 ERA with a 5.16 K/BB ratio over 128 starts.

If he's pitching like that, there's no question that he'll make it into the rotation.

That being said, I doubt the Yankees go after him.

If it got to arbitration, would we really offer less than he made this year?

Think we'd offer $11M or so and he'd ask for $13Mish. End up meeting in the $12M middle.
