Do you know I was sitting next to HeyDicky Matsui at a Giant's game and two 10 year old boys came up and quietly asked him for his autograph. He looked down at them and said, "No" and looked away. When Ass-Rod moved to the city he stayed in a hotel. He walked around with a major league chip on his shoulder and was so cheap he didn't tip anyone. Johnny Damon, well, look what he did while his wife was giving birth. These are the people you are cheering for. It's really sad.

Great stuff from Jay at Fack Youk.

I don't believe there is any way that Utley wins MVP if the Yanks win tonight. The award to Richardson seems to be a fluke based on the timing of the votes and the fact that the favored Yanks were ahead and had outplayed the Pirates by a huge margin.

Interesting story on Richardson. I still remember that damn ball bouncing up to hit Kubek in the throat. Supposedly Forbes Field had a terribly maintained infield, and it hit a pebble.

If Johnny Damon has a good game tonight he's the MVP. Unless of course A-Rod goes all Reggie Jackson game 6 of the '77 series tonight :)

Heh to the Richardson article. Essentially the voters blew their load too early, and so while they love giving scrappy guys the WS MVP, the preference with precedence is a player from the winning side.

I don't feel like there's (or should be) a lot of difference between the MVP for the regular season and the WS MVP. Even if the team loses, someone can have a more individually valuable performance, overall.

I mean, without Utley, CC may not have given up anything in game 1, may have gone 8, etc etc...we may not even be playing this game 6.

If they want to limit the recipients to only those from the champion squad, then change the name of the award. Most Valuable Player. Not most success from a surprising player.
